I appreciate you starting a conversation about the harms of homeopathy, and I just want to mention that homeopathy/alternative medicine is also largely BS when it comes to treating our pets. A lot of essential oils and herbal remedies are toxic to cats and dogs even in small quantities, but people still try using them as flea and tick prevention because they don’t want to use “toxic” medicine that actually works. CBD isn’t FDA approved for dogs because it’s not been proven to be effective and safe, but a lot of folks have pushed me to try it for my dog because he’s on medication for extreme anxiety. Some folks will seek out animal chiropractors to “treat” their dog’s IVDD or hip dysplasia instead of pursuing pain management or surgical treatment. People think that vets look at their pets and see dollar signs instead of an animal needing treatment and turn to snake oil salesmen instead. It’s maddening.
Yeah that makes me fucking crazy.
@drferox and @why-animals-do-the-thing are great resources on tumblr who have spent a ton of time discussing animal woo in the past; both have slowed down on posting because life is hard and tumblr is tumblr, but both have done a lot of excellent writing about things like animal training, raw pet food, vaccination, and how to be a good human to your pets. If you've got questions about animals, search their archives and you're probably going to find a ton of useful information.
Folks, I swear veterinarians aren't coming for your wallets and they are generally criminally under-compensated for the work that they do. They're brilliant professionals who are driven by passion and fucked by the market.
Sorry i went to go find some studies on dogs and cbd and i ended up finding a reprint of a small study from the american holistic veterinary medical association and I found this on the pdf and i'm going to murder somebody
for those who are not aware young living is an essential oil mlm largely targeting mormon housewives that was started by a man whose child died being drowned at birth in an at-home-water-birthing incident and who himself likely died of cancer he tried to treat with essential oils.
This is one of those things that's like a big flashing neon sign that the study/journal you're looking at is a hot pile of bullshit.
Anyway. Yeah. Research supporting the safety and effectiveness of CBD on dogs is pretty thin on the ground. Your pets depend on you. The choices you make determine their health and wellbeing.
Listening to woo-peddlers who tell you not to vaccinate, or who hype up untested "healthy grain free diets," or who promote and sell cbd in absence of evidence of its effectiveness is putting your pets hands in the health of someone who doesn't care about your pet, they just care about profit.
Also, while I'm here: don't feed your dog grain free foods unless they have a diagnosed allergy, grain free foods can lead to liver and kidney problems, dogs are more omnivorous, not obligate carnivores like cats and grain is not bad for their diet nor unnatural for them to eat, and there are very few brands that have done decades of feeding tests on dogs (Royal Canin, Hills Science Diet, Pedigree, Eukanuba, and Iams) and none of them are Blue Buffalo.
Appeals to nature are extremely common in online woo discussions of pet food and vet care. Your dog is not a wolf and does not need to eat like a wolf. Your cat is not a lion and does not need to claim territory like a lion.
Vaccinate your pets, don't let them wander, feed them tested diets, and listen to your vet's advice on their care.

No idea if any of you have guinea pig experience, but if you do: thoughts on the newer recommendations to rub cbd cream on the ears to treat longer-term pain? Example: just had a cyst removed and the site is still sore.
Obvious qualifications that the owner buys thc-free cream as instructed and doesn’t have to break laws to do so apply here. Also obviously you’d still be giving antibiotics and stuff, this is just for pain.
I’ve been super curious about this one, as someone with a ton of guinea pig experience from the non-medical professional side (is this a good sound/what sex is my pig/is this food safe are the kinds of questions I’m willing to answer, I stay in my lane). Hopefully it isn’t problematic, since I know a lot of piggies with truly terrible reactions to syringes that would vastly prefer having cream rubbed on their ears if at all possible. Thanks!
vet-and-wild here.
As a whole we (veterinary professionals) aren't necessarily at the point where we are recommending CBD products for regular use. The research is lacking and the regulations for what is sold for pets is all over the place. There's just too much variation now and not enough solid evidence for how it should be used, particularly for different species. I would be especially wary of using CBD products for exotics. They are smaller, so dosing may be an issue, and do tend to be more sensitive. And even if the CBD itself doesn't cause an issue, I'd worry about additives in the products as well.
More anecdotally, I do have a fair amount of owners that have tried CBD products for their animals (generally cats and dogs) and the results are mixed. I don't necessarily tell my clients they can't use it, but I tell them basically what I talked about above. Some owners feel like these products have greatly improved their pet's quality of life. Others don't feel like they did anything.
I would honestly love to see more research about how to safely and effectively use CBD for pets, especially exotics. If we have a product that is easy to apply/administer, doesn't cause significant side effects, is affordable, and genuinely helps the animal, I'm all for it! Given the success humans have had it will probably trickle down to vet med eventually but we're not quite there. Maybe in the next 5-10 years.

Bracket 5 Semifinals 2
Blackie vs Maccabee
check their descriptions and catpaganda (new for blackie)
BLACKIE
This is Blackie, submitter's little one-eyed wonder. He lost his eye to glaucoma quite a few years ago, but he's doing a lot better now, and still likes to play with his sister, Artemis. His name is Blackie because that's what the shelter named him and submitter's family couldn't agree on a new name for him so it stuck, but submitter themselves call him 'Big Boi' because of just how massive he is. He was once very timid, but with time and love and patience he is now a certified lap cat who will come right up to strangers to demand pets. He has a wonderful squeaky meow and when he purrs it sounds like two cats purring at once. He likes to have people watch him eat and he will guide submitter's mom over to the couch and make her lay down just so he can sleep in her lap. Also, when he lays on his back, he covers his belly with his tail. Pictured is him in his signature polite boi sitting pose
MACCABEE
- weird old man
- known to bite people's elbows when prompted
- frequently sleeps with one (1) limb stretched in a random direction
- the reason submitter can't have pineapples in the house
- knows the word "treat," meaning it cannot be said out loud around him
- they got him for chanukah (hence the name). diversity win! this cat is jewish!
- they paid $150 to buy him a half-page ad in submitter's high school yearbook because he's worth it <3
CATPAGANDA
MACCABEE
has a post made by his human as a separate propaganda piece. it has bribery. the offer as far as i know still stands

also has agitational posters!!

BLACKIE
So glad to see Blackie still in the competition! His response so far has been "aow."
Truth be told, I'm running out of propaganda. If he make it to the next round, I'm gonna try my darnedest to capture his meows on video, which I haven't been able to do before because he sees me coming with the camera and starts purring XD
For now, more assorted Blackie facts!
Very rarely, when he gets the zoomies, he'll laugh. Like "huhuhuheueheHUEHEUE" kinda laugh.
I like to let him sniff human food/whatever I'm holding just to make sure he feels included (still doesn't like anything but pizza crumbs). But he has gagged on pickled ginger, banana, and CBD rub. He always gets really embarrassed when he gags tho
Ever since I got a job, he has been following me to bed and jumping on my chest to get the pets that he now lacks during the day.
If he sees you getting out the cat brush, he''ll lead you over to where he wants to be brushed.
On that note, when I had hurt my leg one time, Blackie saw that I wasn't leaning down to pet him and instead lead me over to the couch to have me sit down to pet him. He kept that up for a couple months once he saw how relieved it made me.
More Blackie propoganda! This time I bring you big boi in motion
link
Assorted Blackie facts:
A brave man when it comes to thunderstorms. But the vacuum? His mortal enemy.
The friendliest cat at the shelter. But the staff forced me to pick him up and hold him to get a picture and he got terrified and peed on me.
We think, based on how he acts, that he may have grown up in a home with dogs. But the mark on his ear is one done by our local neuter and release program, so we don't know if he was a stray, an outside cat, etc. But he's one of the friendliest cats I've ever met.
Will go up to his sister and put his head down to get it licked. But as soon as she goes to lick him and flattens his ears and raises a paw like he's gonna hit her. Sometimes they fight and sometimes they just walk away. We don't think he's trying to trick her because he acts genuinely confused throughout this process.
Sometimes he uses his back paw to scratch the back of his front leg when he's sitting down and it's so cute <3
These are old photos from when I used to hold a camera down and snap a photo when they leaned in to sniff the lens.

Blackie is our older cat and is such a gentleman. He is eager to love, he does the quickest slow blinks I've ever seen from a cat. He has a two-layered purr, it literally sounds like a cat purring as popcorn is being made in the background. He lost his eye to glaucoma when he was younger but he runs around and plays and teases his sister Artemis like a kitten. And his eyebrow whiskers grew down over his missing eye! He's not a big fan of people food but he has a fondness for pizza crumbs (NOT the crust. Just the crumbs off the plate when you're done eating the pizza). He walks like he's gingerly stepping through flowers and he's so gentle that the one time I overstimulated him and he wanted to bite me, he just shoved his closed mouth against my hand. He has a super long tongue and if you scratch the right spot between his shoulder blades he will lick the air. He's my precious boy who started out so scared but he's so brave and social and happy now just typing this out makes me wanna cry and go give him scritchies.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you! get to know your mutuals and followers ♡
I'm SO SORRY THIS TOOK ME WAY TOO LONG
and thank you to @yesitsloulou because I saw you sent me this too and y'all are so so sweet for it. Seriously. I LOVE YOU GUYS SO FREAKING MUCH
Top 5 things that make me happy, let's goooo (strap in this is a long one)
Friends & Family
I'm putting them together cuz technically friends ARE family to me. More and more do I realize just how stinkin important they are and how much they make my day/month/year.
My friends sending me tiktoks/memes they think I'll love or remind them of me, who love me for me and I can be my goofy self with them
my parents being endlessly supportive and hear me out, who sometimes pick me up coffee or snacks simply because they are thinking of me. My mom, who used to take my brother and I to anime cons and would patiently listen to us rant about our latest obsession and STILL does it till this day even though she has no interest in any of it because she loves us that much. Or my dad who will be a big ol' goof and won't stop till he's cracked a smile out of me.
2. Mutuals
I would put mutuals in the friends and family category, but y'all deserve your own spot because otherwise I'd go on forever lmao (also I see mutuals as friends but I know some people might find that TOO familiar and I'm not trying to weird ya out or nothin)
mutuals who leave tags on reblogs, letting me know their thoughts or little comments to me. Or the reblogs on my art and letting me know if you love it or not?? like 'IM OVER THE MOON'. Know that I'm squeeing and kickin my feet and twirling my hair. All of it. Also, seeing how excited y'all are about a certain show, books, fandom etc Even those posts that are like 'reblog if you would gently headbutt with the person you reblogged this from if y'all were cats'. I love that. I mean it when I say that all of this makes my entiiirrree day. I love it and I love y'all!!
3. My Pets
Seeing their cute little faces gets me through so much. They let me hug and kiss them a whole bunch and it fills me with so much seratonin, holy hell. They have helped me on lonely nights, being little supportive spirits when I'm in my head too much or going through a bad break up. If y'all want some cuteness too, heres a pic of the two of them. I lost my sweet Gir last year and it still gets to me. It's also the anniversary of her passing, but she was an amazing dog.

4. CBD gummies
okay so this is left field and sounds goofy, but I struggle with sleep pretty badly. I'm a night owl through and through, so it makes settling down super hard. My brain just won't shut the fuck up. It's caused my anxiety to spike enough to get medicated for it. However, with these gummies I can FINALLY bank on a good night's sleep and for that I am forever thankful. It also makes me feel so damn good too, so it even calms my anxious nerves. It's made me happy to tears, let me tell ya.
5. Baking
Been finding a lot of happiness in trying new recipes. Some of my favorite nights are getting tipsy/high, baking, and watching horror movies. I've mad pie dough, mini pumpkin pies, brownies, no bakes, caramels, truffles, muffins and god its been such a TREAT. I made my friends and family baked goods and it filled me with so much joy.
Thank you so so much for the sweet ask!! <3 I'm so happy to have y'all as mutuals. Seriously, you make the weeks that much sweeter. I hope you are doing great. Sending you lots of love! ❤️❤️❤️

4th of July vs Pets
I am not sure what it is with fireworks that scares some animals so much. That is, if they are brought inside. If they are outside, yeah, that is rough for an animal. To them, it might as well be a nuke going off. I feel like when I am inside, the sound is always muffled to the point of being able to completely ignore it. And that is exactly what Chai does 98% of the time. The other 2% she's watching them from the window lol. Our brilliant family dog, on the other hand Deiliah. Is petrified of their very existence. And, I do mean she is brilliant. She's an Australian shepherd mix that is like the most loyal butler of all time, mixed with the world's most cuddly golden retriever. She'll learn things all on her own just to please you, and in all the eleven years we have had her, she's never had an accident inside the house. We got her from the county shelter when she was about a year old. So we have always just assumed she had a really bad experience with fireworks at some point. She is not a chewer, so the best we can do for Deiliah has always been to let her into a dark, comfy, quiet spot in the house or let her into my middle brother's bedroom. There are always many postings after or during the 4th of July for missing pets. Deiliah had even escaped once because we didn't bring her in early enough. One of our neighbours quickly found her in their garage and had literally just carried her back to us.
So be sure to be well prepared. Make sure to bring your dogs inside and make them comfortable. The company I work with actually has a lot of really good products for both cats and dogs to help them relax. I will link a couple of them down below. The two supplements are made from mostly very beneficial organic herbs. These supplements work on both cats and dogs. The dog bone is actually coated in a soluble herbal supplement. So it acts very similarly to the CBD supplements. Pawtree actually has a lot of really cool dog and cat toys. I have been tempted to get Chai some cat toys from PawTree. Which I might treat myself to once my Birthday comes around again. Deiliah sadly has never used any of the toys we have gotten her... She's too smart for such things.

CBD Oil Market Growth Driven by Regulatory Support and Innovative Product Developments
The global CBD oil market has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, driven by increasing consumer awareness, regulatory support, and rising demand across various applications. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is non-psychoactive and is known for its therapeutic properties, making it a preferred choice in health and wellness products. As health-conscious consumers seek natural remedies, CBD oil has become a popular ingredient in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and even pet care.

Market Drivers
One of the primary drivers of the CBD oil market is its growing use in medical and therapeutic applications. CBD has shown promise in treating various health issues, including anxiety, chronic pain, epilepsy, inflammation, and sleep disorders. In particular, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of Epidiolex, a CBD-based drug used to treat epilepsy, marked a significant milestone in the medical cannabis industry. This has encouraged pharmaceutical companies to invest in R&D and expand their CBD-based offerings.
Consumer perception is also shifting as more people become aware of the potential benefits of CBD oil. Increased media coverage, celebrity endorsements, and expanding product availability have contributed to mainstream acceptance. Millennials and Gen Z, in particular, are more open to plant-based and alternative wellness solutions, further fueling the market.
Regulatory Landscape
The regulatory environment plays a critical role in shaping the CBD oil market. In many countries, CBD derived from industrial hemp with less than 0.3% THC is legal. The passage of the U.S. Farm Bill in 2018 legalized the cultivation and sale of hemp-derived CBD at the federal level, which significantly boosted the American market. However, regulatory frameworks still vary across regions and are subject to frequent changes. The uncertainty around legal status in certain markets can pose a challenge for international expansion and long-term growth.
In Europe, regulatory bodies like the European Medicines Agency and EFSA are working on standardizing CBD regulations. Meanwhile, in countries like Canada and Australia, the CBD market is more mature and supported by structured policies. Continued regulatory clarity and harmonization are expected to unlock new opportunities in emerging markets.
Product Innovation and Market Segmentation
The CBD oil market is highly segmented, with a wide array of product types and delivery methods. These include tinctures, capsules, topicals, vapes, and edibles. Each form caters to specific consumer preferences and use cases. The cosmetics and personal care segment, for instance, is seeing increasing demand for CBD-infused creams, lotions, and serums that offer anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits.
In addition to human use, pet care is emerging as a promising sub-sector. Pet owners are increasingly turning to CBD oil to manage anxiety, pain, and arthritis in dogs and cats. This niche market has significant growth potential as awareness spreads and product formulations become more specialized.
Technological advancements have also facilitated product development. Nano-emulsification and encapsulation techniques are improving bioavailability and absorption, making CBD products more effective. Companies that innovate and offer differentiated products are likely to gain a competitive edge.
Regional Insights
North America currently holds the largest share of the global CBD oil market, led by the U.S. and Canada. Strong consumer demand, an advanced retail infrastructure, and a favorable regulatory environment support this dominance. Europe follows closely, with countries like Germany, the UK, and Switzerland emerging as key markets.
Asia-Pacific is expected to witness the fastest growth over the next few years, driven by rising health awareness and gradual regulatory easing in countries like Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Latin America and the Middle East & Africa are still in nascent stages but represent untapped opportunities for market expansion.
Challenges and Future Outlook
Despite the positive momentum, the CBD oil market faces several challenges. Regulatory inconsistency, quality control concerns, and lack of consumer education are major barriers. Furthermore, the influx of low-quality and mislabeled products has led to trust issues among consumers, emphasizing the need for transparency and standardization.
Nonetheless, the outlook for the CBD oil market remains optimistic. As scientific research progresses and regulatory barriers are addressed, the market is expected to reach new heights. Strategic partnerships, branding initiatives, and investments in supply chain integrity will be crucial for sustainable growth. Companies that can navigate the evolving landscape while maintaining product quality and consumer trust will lead the next wave of innovation in the CBD space.

How Pet CBD Helps Improve Your Pet’s Health Naturally

In recent years, Pet CBD has become a powerful tool in the hands of caring pet owners looking to support their pets' health using natural remedies. As more scientific research validates the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD), it is no longer a niche trend but a growing movement in holistic pet care. From easing anxiety to supporting joint health, Pet CBD is making a real difference in the lives of dogs, cats, and even smaller animals.
But what exactly is Pet CBD, and how can it benefit your beloved companion? Let’s explore the science, the benefits, and how you can use it safely and effectively.
What Is Pet CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound derived from the hemp plant. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not cause a "high." Pet CBD products are specially formulated for animals, often with pet-safe concentrations and ingredients.
Most commonly, Pet CBD is available in:
Tinctures and oils
Soft chews or treats
Topical creams
Capsules
These products are designed to support a wide range of physical and emotional wellness concerns in pets.
The Science Behind Pet CBD
All mammals—including dogs and cats—have an endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system plays a critical role in regulating bodily functions such as mood, pain perception, appetite, inflammation, and sleep.
CBD interacts with ECS receptors (primarily CB1 and CB2) to help maintain balance, or homeostasis, in the body. This is why CBD can have such a wide-reaching impact on your pet’s health.
Proven Health Benefits of Pet CBD
1. Reduces Anxiety and Stress
Is your dog terrified of thunderstorms or fireworks? Does your cat get anxious during car rides or vet visits?
Pet CBD has calming effects that help reduce anxiety-related behaviors without sedation. Many pet owners report that CBD helps their pets remain calm in stressful situations, improving their quality of life.
2. Supports Joint and Mobility Health
Arthritis and joint pain are common, especially in older dogs and cats. CBD has anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce swelling and discomfort, promoting better mobility.
Case Example: Bella, a 10-year-old Golden Retriever, struggled to get up stairs due to arthritis. After a month of daily CBD oil, her owner noticed improved movement and less stiffness.
3. Eases Chronic Pain
CBD may act as a natural pain reliever by influencing pain receptors in the nervous system. This makes it a helpful addition to traditional treatment plans for chronic conditions.
4. Improves Appetite and Digestion
CBD can stimulate appetite and ease nausea. This is particularly useful for pets undergoing medical treatments like chemotherapy or suffering from gastrointestinal issues.
5. Enhances Overall Wellness
CBD can also be used as a preventative supplement, supporting immune health, sleep quality, and overall mood. Some owners use it as part of a daily wellness routine for their pets.
How to Use Pet CBD Safely
While CBD is generally considered safe, especially when sourced from reputable companies, it's important to take the following steps:
✔ Choose Quality Products
Look for lab-tested, THC-free, and organically sourced CBD.
Avoid human CBD products—they may contain ingredients harmful to pets.
✔ Start Low and Go Slow
Begin with the lowest recommended dose.
Monitor your pet’s response over a few days, then adjust as needed.
✔ Consult Your Veterinarian
Before introducing Pet CBD, speak with your veterinarian—especially if your pet is on other medications. CBD can interact with certain drugs.
Signs That Pet CBD May Be Helping
You might notice:
A calmer demeanor during stressful events
Increased mobility or willingness to play
A healthier appetite
Reduced signs of pain or discomfort
Is Pet CBD Legal and Safe?
Yes, Pet CBD derived from hemp (with less than 0.3% THC) is legal in most regions, including the U.S., Canada, and many European countries. As long as it’s from a licensed manufacturer and third-party tested, it’s considered safe for pets.
However, avoid any products with high THC levels, as THC can be toxic to animals.
Final Thoughts
Pet CBD is more than a wellness trend—it's a scientifically backed, naturally derived supplement that’s helping pets live better lives. Whether your dog is anxious during storms or your senior cat is dealing with arthritis, CBD may offer the gentle support they need.
By choosing high-quality products, following proper dosage, and working with your vet, you can enhance your pet’s health naturally and lovingly.
Your pet gives you unconditional love—CBD is one way to give a little comfort in return.
