Higashioka, Showalter, Nimmo, Sörenstam to be honored at 43rd Annual Thurman Munson Awards Dinner Feb. 7
The 43rd annual Thurman Munson Awards Dinner will benefit AHRC New York City Foundation on Tuesday night, February 7th at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers (23rd Street at West Side Highway) in New York City, and the honorees have been announced today: New York Yankees catcher and ’21 Roberto Clemente Award nominee Kyle Higashioka; New York Mets centerfielder Brandon Nimmo; New York Mets manager and four-time Manager of the Year Buck Showalter; and LPGA champion & World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sörenstam will all receive Thurman Munson Awards in the “Class of 2023.”
The “Thurmans” are presented to individuals for on-field excellence, community outreach, and betterment of their sport. The AHRC NYC benefit has helped to keep the memory of the legendary Yankees catcher and captain Thurman Munson alive since his untimely passing 43 years ago, while raising more than $19 million for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead richer, more productive lives.
Thurman's widow Diana Munson is an honorary chair who has supported AHRC NYC and its fund-raising efforts through the Thurman Munson Awards for four decades, and will be in attendance.
For media inquiries contact John Cirillo/Cirillo World by email at [email protected] or text 914-260-7436.
For tickets call 212-249-6188 or email [email protected]. Tickets may be purchased online at www.ahrcnycfoundation.org/munson2023
The co-Masters of Ceremonies will be FOX 5 lead sports anchor and Sports Extra host Tina Cervasio and Michael Kay, the Voice of the Yankees on YES Network and host of the Michael Kay Show on ESPN NY Radio.
Special guests for the evening will include previous Thurman Award honorees: Radio Hall of Famer and WFAN Yankees analyst Suzyn Waldman (previous Media Hero recipient), Football Giants Super Bowl champions Harry Carson, Chris Canty and Karl Nelson; as well as Thurman's teammate and two-time Yankees World Series Champion Roy White, Giants Super Bowl champ Howard Cross, YES Network personality Nancy Newman, former women’s featherweight boxing champion Heather Hardy, popular New York Radio/TV personality Sweeny Murti, WFAN Radio golf and tennis reporter Ann Liguori, and former Mets pitcher Nelson Figueroa with others to be announced.
The list of previous Thurman Munson Award recipients reads like a “Who’s Who” of sports stars for the ages including: Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, Yogi Berra, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Joe Torre, Bernie Williams, Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, Gary Carter, David Wright, Willis Reed, Patrick Ewing, Julius Erving, Jim Brown, Harry Carson, Aly Raisman, Nancy Lieberman, Theresa Weatherspoon, and Mark Messier, just to name a few.
Kyle Higashioka was a seventh-round selection by the Yankees in the 2008 MLB Draft. After battling a series of injuries early in his minor league career, Kyle made his major league debut for the Yankees in 2018 when Gary Sánchez was sidelined. After starting his major league career 0-for-22, the longest hitless streak to start a Yankee career of any position player ever, he had his first major league hit, a home run, on July 1 against the Boston Red Sox. His next two hits, on July 3 and July 4 against the Atlanta Braves, were also circuit blasts, making him the ninth MLB player since 1920 to have three home runs as his first three hits. On September 16, 2020, Higashioka hit three home runs in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays to became the 24th Yankee to hit three HR in a game. On May 19, 2021, Higashioka caught Corey Kluber's no-hitter against the Texas Rangers, the first Yankees to catch a no-hitter since Joe Girardi caught David Cone's perfect game in 1999.
Higashioka was the Yankees 2021 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award which embodies representing the game of baseball through extraordinary character and community involvement, both on and off the field. In 2006, MLB opened its first Urban Youth Academy in Compton, CA. Among the athletes who attended the inaugural camp was Higashioka. He grew up roughly 25 miles away in Huntington Beach, looking for any and every opportunity to achieve his goal of playing professional baseball. He never forgot the impact the MLB Youth Academy had on him and the trajectory of his career. He spent numerous offseasons volunteering his time to support the social reach of the program. The academy focuses on Inner City youth, and assists after-school programs, preparing kids for any type of life, whether it's professional baseball or getting in the workforce. Kyle has embraced the causes of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which ensures complete post-secondary educational support and additional educational opportunities for eligible surviving children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and children of all Medal of Honor Recipients; and provides immediate financial assistance to severely wounded, ill, and injured Special Operations Personnel.
Four-time Manager of the Year Buck Showalter, in his first season at the helm of the Mets last season, led the team to a 101-win campaign en route to the best skipper trophy. During a 30-year managerial career, Showalter has amassed 1,652 victories managing the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Orioles, and Mets. Like Thurman, Showalter was drafted by the Bronx Bombers, and is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame. (Thurman led the Chatham A's to their first league title with a .420 batting average, while Showalter, playing for the Hyannis Mets, won the league batting title with a .434 average). Showalter was an All-American and set the Mississippi State record for batting average in a season by hitting .459 during the 1977 season.
Showalter participated in the Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s second annual Homeruns & Highballs fundraiser last July, the team’s largest fundraising event of the season. AMF is committed to providing needed services and opportunities to children, families and underserved groups in neighborhoods and communities to inspire change and make a lasting impact on and off the field. On the 21st anniversary of 9/11, Showalter and the team paid tribute to the first responders during the game against the Marlins. While managing Baltimore, Buck supported the LUNGevity Foundation, a charity inspired by the Orioles late public relations director Monica Pence Barlow.
The homegrown smiling, starting centerfielder Brandon Nimmo was a first round pick by New York in the 2011 MLB draft, and made his big league debut for the Mets in 2016. The seven-year veteran enjoyed his finest season last year, recording 159 hits, 30 doubles, and 64 RBI with 580 at bats in 151 games, all career highs. His 16 home runs fell one short of equaling his lifetime best of 17 circuit blasts. During the off season, the Cheyanne, Wyoming native signed a nine-year contract with the Mets. Nimmo played for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic in 2017.
During the off season, Nimmo dressed as an elf at the Mets annual holiday party. Last season, Nimmo held a special sandlot baseball game for local Little Leaguers at Flushing’s Hinton Park on July 8 with two dozen Little Leaguers taking part. Following a pre-game pep talk, Nimmo spent much of the game pitching to the kids, playing the outfield, and giving players fist bumps when they made a good play. Nimmo has also taken part in the fundraiser Call of Duty: Warzone Charity Royale to support veterans with teammate Pete Alonso. Nimmo was named the Mets recipient of the 2022 Heart and Hustle Award, awarded to players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game, by the MLB Players Alumni Association.
Annika Sörenstam is the most celebrated and winningest female professional golfer in history as a three-time Women’s U.S. Open champion, three-time PGA champion and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. In 2003, she achieved a career Grand Slam, winning at least once in her career each of the four tournaments recognized as major championships. She tops the LPGA’s all-time money list with earnings in excess of $22 million. In all, the native of Sweden has captured 72 official LPGA tournaments and has been named Player of the Year a record eight times.
Annika created the ANNIKA Foundation (www.annikafoundation.org) to provide opportunities in women’s golf at the junior, collegiate and professional levels while teaching young people the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition. It annually conducts six major golf events for aspiring junior girls throughout the world. And with the support of the Haskins Commission, the Foundation created the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, which is given annually to the best collegiate female golfer. Since 2014, the Foundation has also annually hosted the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M, a college tournament featuring 12 top Division I schools. Each year, the Foundation also conducts several “Share My Passion” grass roots clinics designed to introduce kids to the game.

Exemptions granted to you are not shown on the admit card. Please go through the relevant statement of marks of the exam, where in your opinion, you were granted an exemption in a paper(s).
Alphabet “E” printed against the marks of a paper denotes that marks of that paper have been brought forward from an exemption granted in that paper in an earlier attempt.

If no such symbol or alphabet is printed against the marks of any paper, even though the marks obtained in that paper may be more than 60, then that indicates that no exemption has been granted in that paper.
You can log in with your single sign on credentials at http://icaiexam.icai.org after 15th April for May cycle exams & 15th October for November Cycle exams to check your exemptions.
Candidates are advised to go through the rules relating to “Exemption in a paper(s)” contained in the Guidance Notes hosted along with the Examination form, CA Regulations 1988 and the announcement dated 09-01-2018 hosted on the institute’s website www.icai.org and be clear about their exemption entitlements and not miss out on appearing in those paper/s where they are not eligible for exemption. Beat Museum 540 Broadway, San Francisco, CA 94133
It's a fascinating exhibition hall. It's curious, and there's a major spotlight on the history if the fundamental creators of the beat development; Kerouac, Ginsberg and companions. They have a great deal of relics from them also.
It would appear that a carport. Most vintage products look intriguing. In case you're a worldwide explorer who doesn't think about the beat development, there is such a long way to go.
Cool accumulation of curios from a standout amongst writing's most powerful periods. Staff were neighborly and supportive, tickets sensible as well.
Extraordinary little exhibition hall! Inspiring anecdotes about the beat age and all around cordial staff.
This historical center is magnificent! Proceed to look at the craftsmanship, history, and recollections left by a standout amongst the most dynamic developments in the twentieth century. Visit it!!!
Where everything started. Magnificent origin of the most dominant development that significantly changed a noteworthy part of Americana and shake n-roll. The proprietor was at the beginning is happy to impart history to you. Books and memorabilia you won't somewhere else. Too neighborly and into it staff. An unquestionable requirement go to put in SF.
Extraordinary gallery for the topic. It truly catches the account of the Beats, and gives a solid instructive foundation to a creative history time and again overlooked and dominated by the counterculture of the 60s. Such data at a truly sensible cost, It's unquestionably somewhere I'll visit once more.
The store is extremely fascinating and sensibly estimated itself and worth looking at alone on the off chance that you possess energy for the full exhibition hall.
Flawless Beat Museum in the ideal area! Heaps of data with incredible shows and a wonderful blessing shop/book shop. You can without much of a stretch see everything in less than an hour and at 7$ you truly can't beat it.
Near City Lights bookshop and Vesuvio, I very suggest halting by every one of the three. Snatch an espresso or something somewhat more grounded at Vesuvio and appreciate!

Robert Plant Announces September 2018 U.S. Tour Dates; Returning to D-FW on September 25th, Gracing the Stage of The Pavilion at The Toyota Music Factory
youtube
Robert Plant has announced a new series of North American headline dates celebrating his extraordinary latest album, Carry Fire. The dates - for which Plant is once again accompanied by The Sensational Space Shifters - begin September 9 at LouFest in St. Louis, MO, and then continue through the month. Besides LouFest, Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters will appear at a number of upcoming U.S. festivals, including Telluride, CO's Telluride Blues & Brews Festival (September 15), Del Mar, CA's KAABOO (September 16), and Louisville, KY's Bourbon & Beyond Festival (September 23). All tickets are on sale now.
Currently topping the bill at headline shows and summer festivals across Europe, Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters have earned ecstatic critical acclaim at every stop of the Carry Fire tour thus far. Recent months have seen Brooklyn Vegan declare Plant to be "ageless and ever-evolving," adding, "Plant's legendary pipes are still capable of scaling heights, and the Sensational Space Shifters are an impressive collection of multi-instrumentalists more than capable of living up to one of rock's most enduring legacies." "Using Americana blues as its foundation, (Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters) were a combined force of musical contradictions that they blended into a unified and glorious force of nature," wrote The Aquarian Weekly. "Sporting a boyish grin, Plant delighted in challenging the crowd to take on the Space Shifters dynamic flow of its arrangements like a rock 'n' roll shaman." Uproxx simply declared Plant to be "the greatest singer in rock and roll history, filling the atmosphere in each space with his iconic voice, a little deeper in register than it once was perhaps, but no less powerful or engrossing. His innate understanding of dynamics and control defy comprehension. He oozes charisma, dashing off jokes in between song, while cradling and sashaying his mic stand like a newfound lover... While the mane might be a little grayer than it used to be, this lion can still roar with the best of them." "One of the great frontmen in rock and roll history, Plant commands the stage with a youthful exuberance, twirling the mic stand and working the crowd into a frenzy," raved Forbes, noting, "Robert Plant has consistently tried new things, nostalgia be damned...Things are far more interesting when he follows his muse wherever it leads." The Los Angeles Times confirmed finally, "This golden god just isn't ready to turn back yet," after Plant's powerful headlining set at this year's Arroyo Seco festival. Carry Fire is available now via Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records at all digital music retailers and streaming services. Rolling Stone named the album among the "50 Best Albums of 2017," writing, "With a title that evokes primal discovery and heroic burden, Carry Fire finds Plant nuancing the mystic stomp of yore for darkening times... It proves that Plant's athletic power, like his musical idealism, burns undiminished." U.S. Tour Dates: 2018 September 9--St. Louis, MO--LouFest 10--Kansas City, MO--Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland 13--Santa Fe, NM--Santa Fe Opera 15--Telluride, CO--Telluride Blues & Brews Festival 16--Del Mar, CA--KAABOO 19--Tucson, AZ--Centennial Hall 21--Tulsa, OK--Brady Theater 23--Louisville, KY--Bourbon & Beyond Festival 25--Irving, TX--The Pavilion at The Toyota Music Factory 27--Lubbock, TX--Lubbock Municipal Auditorium 29--Austin, TX--Austin City Limits Live at Moody Theater

The Fever 333 Debut Politically-Charged Jason Butler-Directed Video For “Made An America”
The Fever 333 (aka our new favorite supergroup featuring members of letlive., The Chariot and Night Verses) have just released an eye-opening new visual for the title track from their recently released EP Made An America.
Now, instead of us diving into what the video is all about -- because trust us, there’s definitely a lot to unpack -- we’ll go ahead and let the band’s outspoken frontman and video director Jason Butler explain:
“I am not afraid to talk about the truth anymore. I am not threatened by the ignorance that allowed us to push a very problematic history aside. There is no more reason for me to be compliant through silence, and there is absolutely no room for such silence in art. If you feel challenged by the idea of this video, I would encourage you to ask yourself ‘why?’
Then you can feel free to ask me or the other members of this project. This video was an attempt to offer representation to gravely underrepresented, and ironically prevalent, faction in both music and society. This is an acknowledgment of those whose bodies were exploited in the name of power. The beautiful bodies and souls that have been taken from time and time again to serve the interests of someone else with no regard for their own existence or advancement.
America has provided examples of this for millennia, [but] make no mistake, we are not the only ones. My hope here is that people understand that by challenging these clearly damaging practices against people, we- the people, can observe the power that we possess when we move in solidarity. Integration, both voluntary and forcefully, sits at the foundation of our success and our failures as a people.
Lest we forget, there is no power without the people, therefore all power lies within all people. We built this mother fucker.”
To check out The Fever 333′s politically-charged video for “Made An America,” be sure to look below. Afterward, make sure to grab tickets to see the trio out on tour later this year here.

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Chappell Roan Mirrors The Interplay Between Pleasure & Pain In “Good Hurt” Acoustic Video
There are an endless number of hypotheses for the age-old question: why is there an inherent pleasure in pain? Maybe it’s the endorphins that are released when one feels pain, or perhaps it’s the simple fact that one cannot exist without the other-- a sometimes necessary reassurance of the human ability to experience a full range of profound emotions. We don’t have all the answers, but we do know something for certain: the interplay between pleasure and pain is not a topic commonly discussed by teenagers.
Enter Chappell Roan, the 19-year old songwriter who has spent her entire (young) life honing her craft: a stunningly melancholy sound packaged with lyrical wisdom and overflowing with out-of-the-box pop potential. Sonically, “Good Hurt” encapsulates the same paradoxical power that the title insinuates. Cloaked in a blissful pop exterior with Roan’s airy, wide-ranging vocals taking center stage, a closer listen to the song’s lyrics reveals darker implications.
Lyrics like “Cold hearted frustration / You can call it foundation” and “Bite you goodbye and leave you cold / Now use me just like I used you” hint at an irresistibly toxic romance. While the relationship is clearly unhealthy for both parties, the connection is so strong that it always pulls them back for more. As Roan shared,
“It’s hard for me to explain what ‘Good Hurt’ is about. The best way for me to describe it is an addiction to pain. The meaning lies in the song and the video. Watch and listen and they will tell you everything.”
youtube
In the stripped back acoustic rendition of “Good Hurt,” premiering today on Ones To Watch, we get an even more intimate look at the young songwriter’s vocal abilities and very palpable, personal attachment to the piece. Filmed in a natural setting with only an acoustic guitar as backing, Roan stares straight into the camera as her poignant words strike a meaningful connection with fans who have also experienced a “Good Hurt.” Watch the video below, and stay tuned for another stunning live video by Chappell Roan--premiering next week on Ones To Watch.
youtube
Recently signed to Atlantic Records, it’s not difficult to spot the potential in Chappell Roan. The young singer takes her live talent on the road this winter, alongside fellow artist to watch Declan McKenna. See all dates below and pick up your tickets here.
