Why Now is the Perfect Time to Buy Property in Jamaica
Jamaica with beautiful sceneries, ethnic people, and warm weather was always a desired place for many people. However, beyond its appeal as a tourist destination, what is revealed here is that real estate investments in this stunning island cannot be purchased at a better time than now. Below are several strong arguments why everyone should consider homes in Jamaica for sale at the moment.
1. Growing Real Estate Market
Jamaica real estate industry remains stable for the changes in the global real estate markets. As the need for properties to live in, work in, and invest in rises especially in populous tourism focused regions of Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios, the capital gains would likely be quite stellar. The current generation of investors is also beginning to consider Jamaica as a long-term investment opportunity; this, therefore, is the right time to make an investment in a property.
2. Favorable Exchange Rates
To potential foreign purchasers, current exchange rates are advantageous, hence the best time to invest in Jamaican real estate. It is estimated that many overseas investors in places like the United States and Canada are experiencing the novelty of being able to take their dollars and effectively buy far more. This can result in cost savings proportional to market price trends, where this market has long suffered inflated prices.
3. Attractive Financing Options
The Jamaican government and the local financial institutions are now trying to kick-start the stagnant economy by offering one form of incentive package or the other to of the property purchase. Interest rates remain relatively low; and favourable financing packages can be negotiated for by both residents and foreigners. Also, with mortgage products specifically marketed to cater for international buyers the entry hurdles have never been lower.
4. Thriving Tourism Sector
Tourism in Jamaica is still, very prosperous to this date the island continues to welcome millions of tourists annually. The flow of tourists increases significantly, which explains the high demand for rent thus making it a good investment sector. Having a piece of property on the beach, with room for modifications that allow it to operate as a vacation rental, is far more than a source of passive income; it means access to your PERSONAL paradise on earth. Under current conditions favourable for tourism development, the market for rentals is projected to expand further.
5. Culture and Economy
Politically and economically Jamaica has made a lot of progress over the recent past. Today the government is putting considerable efforts to improve the business climate and increase confidence of investors. This stability complemented by the historic cultural and natural resources of this island make Jamaica an attractive destination for property investment. There is a kind of solidarity; the Jamaicans are friendly people and this fact contributes to the exotic appeal of the island.
6. Lifestyle Appeal
Housing for Investments in Jamaica goes beyond the financial and investment aspect but its lifestyle as well. Overall, the island is amazing since it incorporates the two best things: pleasure and culture. Peaceful beach fronts, explore mountain ranges, and sumptuous food amongothers are what Jamaica has to offer when it comes to quality lifestyle. Living or owning property here affords you an exclusive piece of the sunshine state where you can retire to, whether as vacation home or abode.
Conclusion:
So it is true, the current is the best time to invest in Jamaican real estate with a growing market, a favorable exchange rate, various attractive financing opportunities, and a booming tourism industry, and the island’s stability has been upgraded. Whether you seek a Caribbean vacation home or an investment property or simply a residence in the sun, Caribbean Homes presents an opportunity for investment with a fun way of life. There will never be a better opportunity to make your dream of owning a home in this lively island come through!

The Complete Home Purchase Checklist Every Buyer Needs
Introduction:
More often than not, purchasing a home can be said to be one of the biggest decisions and investments that people have to make in their lifetime. Seeing Homes for sale in Caribbean is exciting but the process is one that is best pursued with caution and requisite strategizing. To guide you through this process as to make it less painful.
Below is a perfect checklist, that any homebuyer should consider:
Determine Your Budget
Budgeting for Housing Costs: To figure out how much you can afford to spend on housing, you must add up all of your monthly bills, income, and debts. Rent or mortgage expenses should ideally not take up more than one-third of your total monthly income.
Accounting for Other Expenses: When planning your home budget, don't forget to account for additional charges such as property taxes, insurance, utilities (such as heat and electricity), and maintenance fees. These prices are in addition to rent or mortgage.
Start House Hunting
Knowing what you are searching for, proceed to search for homes that match your requirements. Search the various online real estate marketing tools, go for open houses, and liaise with a real estate who is conversant with the region. Remember that there’s an ideal house and everyone cannot have a perfect house with everything one wants or needs, thus one might have to compromise.
Find an agent
A real estate agent is therefore very useful during the process of home buying. They know the current inventory available, know the market better, and they can bargain for you. Select an agent who has had experience with the area that you have your sights set on, and with whom can work with smoothly.
Make an Offer
After settling on a place that suits your needs it is now time to bid. Your agent will advise you on how much you can offer in the house depending on the prevailing market rates of similar houses. Some back and forth is expected here, and if your bid is not taken right away, that’s okay.
Close the Deal
The end of the process of obtaining a home is the closing. This is where you will set your signature on all the relevant documentation, pay the final expenses which are often referred to as the closing costs, and finally be considered to be a fully-fledged owner of the house or building that you are buying. This process is coordinated by your real estate agent and your lender so that no hitches are encountered.
Settling into the New Place
Congratulations! You have gone through the process of purchasing homes. Now it is time to take possession of the home, arrange your new house, and appreciate the home that you have worked and struggled to have. That’s right, don’t forget about such things as replacing the door locks, arranging for utility connections, and meeting your neighbors.
Conclusion
Homes for sale in Caribbean and buying is a very important decision that a person can make, however, it is not impossible to do it once you know what measures to take. By following this Caribhomes checklist, you are sure on the right track to the home of your dreams for you and your family. Happy house hunting!

Finally, you spot him, still basking in the afterglow of his victory. He sees you and his face lights up even more. You run to him, throwing your arms around his neck as he lifts you off the ground in a joyful embrace.
"I'm so proud of you!" you exclaim, planting a kiss on his cheek.
Lewis grins, setting you down but keeping you close. "Thank you, love. I couldn't have done it without you."
You pull back slightly, a mischievous glint in your eye. "I have a surprise for you."
His eyebrows raise in curiosity. "A surprise? What is it?"
"You'll see," you reply with a playful smile.
After the race, you and Lewis head to the airport. He’s clearly puzzled but goes along with it, his curiosity growing with each passing moment. You board a private plane, and as you settle into your seats, he turns to you with an amused smile.
"Where are we going?" he asks.
"You'll see," you repeat, enjoying the anticipation.
The flight is smooth and quick, filled with light conversation and shared excitement. As the plane begins its descent, Lewis looks out the window, his eyes widening as he recognizes the coastline.
"Is this... Jamaica?" he asks, turning to you with a mix of surprise and delight.
You nod, a big smile spreading across your face. "Yes. You always spoil me, buy me things, and take me on trips. I thought it was my turn."
Lewis's expression softens, his eyes filled with love and gratitude. "You did all this for me?"
You nod again, feeling a warm glow in your heart. "I wanted to do something special for you. You deserve it."
He pulls you into a tender kiss, his lips lingering on yours as if to express just how much this means to him. "Thank you," he whispers against your lips. "This is incredible."
You both disembark and head to your villa, a stunning beachfront property with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The moment you step inside, you feel the excitement of the adventure that awaits.
The sun rises over the pristine shores of Jamaica, casting a golden hue across the turquoise waters. As you stretch and open your eyes, you feel the warmth of the Caribbean sun seeping through the curtains of your cozy beachfront bungalow. Next to you, Lewis stirs, his face breaking into a sleepy smile as he meets your gaze. Today is the start of an adventure, a day filled with surfing, scuba diving, and the joy of being together in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
You two start your morning with a leisurely breakfast on the veranda. The ocean breeze carries the scent of saltwater and tropical flowers as you enjoy fresh fruit, pastries, and the best coffee you've ever tasted. You can't help but feel a surge of happiness as you look out at the crystal-clear water, knowing that soon you'll be out there, riding the waves with Lewis by your side.
After breakfast, you head down to the beach where surfboards await. Lewis, with his boundless energy and enthusiasm, eagerly helps you carry the boards to the water’s edge. The sand is warm beneath your feet, and the sound of the waves crashing gently against the shore fills the air. You can see the excitement in Lewis's eyes, his love for adventure and the ocean mirroring your own.
With a few quick lessons from a friendly local instructor, you're ready to hit the waves. Lewis is a seasoned surfer as he rides his first wave with ease. You watch, cheering him on, before taking your own board and paddling out. The feeling of catching your first wave is exhilarating, and the look of pride on Lewis's face as he watches you succeed is even more rewarding.
y/nhamilton posted a new story!!
The hours fly by as you both ride wave after wave, laughing and cheering each other on. There are a few tumbles and wipeouts, but each one is met with laughter and encouragement. By the time you finally decide to take a break, you're both exhilarated and exhausted, ready for the next part of your adventure.
After a quick lunch at a beachside café, where you enjoy fresh seafood and tropical drinks, it's time for scuba diving. You've both been looking forward to this, eager to explore the vibrant underwater world of Jamaica. As you board the boat that will take you to the dive site, you feel a mix of excitement and a little bit of nervousness.
Lewis, ever the reassuring presence, holds your hand and gives it a comforting squeeze. "It's going to be amazing," he says, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Just think about all the incredible things we're going to see down there."
The dive instructor gives you a thorough briefing, making sure you're both comfortable with the equipment and the plan for the dive. As you slip into the cool, clear water and begin your descent, the world above fades away, replaced by the mesmerizing beauty of the coral reef below.
The underwater world is even more breathtaking than you imagined. Vibrant coral formations in every color imaginable stretch out before you, teeming with life. Schools of tropical fish dart around, their bright colors flashing in the sunlight that filters down from above. You spot a graceful sea turtle gliding by, and Lewis points excitedly, his eyes wide with wonder.
Exploring the reef together feels like discovering a hidden paradise. You and Lewis swim side by side, sharing silent moments of awe and wonder. Every now and then, you reach out to each other, a gentle touch to share the experience. The beauty of the underwater world and the presence of Lewis make it a magical, unforgettable experience.
As you surface and climb back onto the boat, you both can’t stop smiling. The boat ride back to shore is filled with excited chatter about everything you saw and experienced. You lean against Lewis, feeling the warmth of his skin and the happiness of being together in this incredible place.

Back on land, you spend the afternoon exploring the local town, wandering through colorful markets and charming streets. You sample local treats, browse for souvenirs, and take countless photos to capture the memories. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and you find yourselves chatting with them, learning about their lives and the rich culture of Jamaica.
As the sun begins to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, you return to your bungalow to freshen up for dinner. Tonight, you've planned something special: a candlelit dinner on the beach. The restaurant has set up a private table right by the water, complete with flickering candles and soft, romantic music.
When you arrive, hand in hand, the scene is like something out of a dream. The gentle sound of the waves provides the perfect backdrop as you're led to your table. The waitstaff is attentive, bringing you a delicious array of dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. Each bite is a taste of paradise, and you savor every moment.
As you finish your meal, the strains of "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley begin to play. The familiar, soothing melody fills the air, and you feel a rush of emotions. Lewis stands and extends his hand, a loving smile on his face. "Dance with me?" he asks softly.
You take his hand, and he leads you onto the sand. The candlelight flickers around you, and the world seems to fade away as you move together to the rhythm of the music. With each step, you feel the love and connection between you growing stronger. Lewis holds you close, his eyes locked on yours, and you can see the depth of his feelings in his gaze.
"I love you," he whispers, his voice filled with emotion. "More than anything in this world. You've made every moment of this trip unforgettable, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
Tears fill your eyes as you look at him, overwhelmed by the intensity of your feelings. "I love you too, Lewis," you reply, your voice trembling with emotion. "You've brought so much joy and adventure into my life. I can't imagine doing any of this without you."
You continue to dance, lost in each other's embrace, as the song plays on. The stars shine brightly above, and the world seems to stand still, just for the two of you. In that moment, everything feels perfect – the beauty of the setting, the love you share, and the promise of many more adventures to come.
As the song ends, you linger in each other's arms, reluctant to let go of the magic of the moment. The night is still young, and there's so much more to explore and experience together. But for now, you simply hold each other, grateful for the love and the memories you've created in this beautiful place.

Slavery in Australia. Queensland attempted to “build a second Louisiana” based on explicit racial castes and the wealth of sugar plantations. Islanders from the South Pacific were kidnapped and forced to work on plantations. Between 1863 and 1904, there were at least 62,000 Islanders brought to Australia, and they composed 85% of sugar field workforce. The prominent Queensland planter Louis Hope bought his sugar plants from a slaver, and also hired field supervisors who had been slave overseers in Jamaica. The city of Townsville (Queensland) is named for Robert Towns, who had chartered ships loaded with Islanders brought to work on his property. The town of Tascott (New South Wales) is named for Australia’s celebrated sugar industry pioneer, who had initially made his wealth buying, selling, and managing African slaves at his family’s plantation in the Caribbean. Even so-called “liberal” or “reformist” politicians at the time proposed, as an alternative to Queensland’s “death squad” mounted police killings of Indigenous people, that Aboriginal people simply be captured and forced to work like the Islanders. In 1884, an Australian vessel opened fire and killed at least 38 Islanders resisting kidnapping/recruitment. Prime Minister Barton and Attorney General Alfred Deakin boasted that Australia’s constitution was superior to the United States’s because the Australian document gave explicit permission for racial discrimination and non-white immigration restriction. Then, frightened that Islanders and Aboriginal laborers might gain too much social presence, the government tried deporting all of the Islanders, beginning in 1904.
Text below is an excerpt from an overview of Queensland’s “sugar slavery,” an article from 2022 by scholar Jeff Sparrow.
---
[T]he practice – sometimes known as “sugar slavery” [...] was not a minor or incidental phenomenon. In fact, it was so important to plantation owners that, to defend it, they briefly contemplated separation from the rest of the colony, with Townsville mooted as the capital of what many observers dubbed a “slave state”. This “scheme for the extension and perpetuation of the slavery system” showed, one journalist claimed at the time, that Queensland had become “what the United States were before the Wars of the Secession”. [...]
Australia’s first prime minister, Edmund Barton, explained, quite accurately, that the “limited slavery” of the cane fields had agitated “the whole of Australia” and so was “a question which belongs to the Federation we have succeeded in establishing”. He also outlined the shocking philosophy upon which he considered Australia based:
I do not think either that the doctrine of the equality of man was really ever intended to include racial equality. There is no racial equality. There is basic inequality. These races are, in comparison with white races – I think no one wants convincing of this fact – unequal and inferior. The doctrine of the equality of man was never intended to apply to the equality of the Englishman and the Chinaman. There is deep-set difference, and we see no prospect and no promise of its ever being effaced. Nothing in this world can put these two races upon an equality. Nothing we can do by cultivation, by refinement, or by anything else will make some races equal to others. [...]
In the Australian context, a strange contradiction contributes to the ongoing amnesia about slavery and its consequences. From the very beginning, enslavement shaped white settlement in Australia [...].
---
From the very start, the Australian sugar industry demonstrated how formal and real freedoms might collide.
In Tascott, New South Wales, you can still find a plaque celebrating the man who gave the town its name: a certain Thomas Scott, who, we are told, “arrived in the colony in 1816 [and] pioneered the sugar industry in Australia”. The Tascott memorial neglects to mention Scott’s background in the slave trade. Yet that was how he developed his familiarity with sugar. As a young man, he assisted an uncle buying and selling Africans, before he began managing slave labour on his family’s plantation in Antigua. [...]
In the context of that widespread enthusiasm for the South (the welcome extended to the Confederate ship Shenandoah in Melbourne in 1865 led one of its officers to conclude “the heart of colonial Britain was in our cause”), Queenslanders dreamed of building a “second Louisiana”. They could, they thought, capitalise on the disruption of the international cotton and sugar trades [...].
---
So, in 1863, the shipping tycoon Robert Towns (the man who gave Townsville its name) tried another approach. Towns knew that, back in 1847, an entrepreneur called Benjamin Boyd – another man with a background in Caribbean slavery – had scandalised the colony by transporting men from the Pacific Islands of Tanna and Lifou to supply his cattle station with labour. [...]
In Boyd’s inauspicious venture, Towns glimpsed a solution, a means by which he might recreate Louisiana in Queensland. The insatiable demands of the textile industry meant, he thought, that cotton plantations would be far more profitable than Boyd’s cattle stations. Accordingly, Towns chartered a ship called the Don Juan and sailed it to the New Hebrides from where it returned crammed with Islanders destined for Towns’ huge property near the Logan River.
---
That was how it began.
Between 1863 and 1904, 62,000 South Sea Islanders were transported to Australia, landing in Brisbane, Maryborough, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay, Bowen, Townsville, Innisfail and Cairns. Most indentured labourers arrived from the New Hebrides, with a substantial proportion taken from the Solomons, as well as smaller islands. By the 1890s, Pacific Islanders constituted 85 per cent of the workforce for Australian sugar.
---
The men did not merely adopt a lifestyle associated with New World slavery. They also relied on its techniques and its personnel. [...]
Hope, for instance, acquired his sugar plants from the old slaver Thomas Scott. He hired supervisors from Jamaica and Barbados, looking for those with experience driving plantation slaves. To obtain the men for his fields, he turned – just as Boyd had before him – to a certain Captain Lewin, a notoriously shady character.
The Royal Navy’s Commander George Palmer described Lewin’s vessels as “fitted up precisely like an African slaver, minus the irons” and noted that, “I heard of him [Lewin] at every island I was at as a man stealer and kidnapper”. [...] Between 1863 and 1868, this was the man responsible for “recruiting” nearly half the Islanders who arrived in Australia. [...]
In 1884, at the height of that demand, a vessel called the Hopeful opened fire on Islanders who resisted being stolen, killing at least 38 people and possibly more. [...] By 1884, the annual mortality rate for Islanders in Queensland had climbed to 147 deaths per 1000 people. [...]
---
The Conservative Premier Sir Thomas McIlwraith, a man with personal interests in the sugar industry, expressed the perspective of the planters. He wanted, he said, a Queensland both successful and white. [...] Hence the necessity for a subservient caste of Islanders, who could ensure Queensland remained “a white man’s colony, influenced by white men and owned by white men”. His Liberal rival Samuel Griffith, on the other hand, argued that the importation of Islanders would foster the “degeneration which we have seen whenever the black and white races have endeavoured to mix”. [...]
---
Local parliamentarians pledged not to make the same mistake, congratulating themselves on the superiority of their constitution over the one ratified by the United States, on the basis that its Section 51 (the so-called “race powers”) allowed them, as Prime Minister Barton had explained, “to regulate the affairs of the people of coloured or inferior races who are in the Commonwealth”.
Attorney General Alfred Deakin went so far as to boast that “our Constitution marks a distinct advance upon and difference from that of the United States”. Its passages explicitly permitting racial discrimination enabled parliament to pass the Immigration Restriction Act (to keep non-whites out) and the Pacific Islands Labourers Act (to deport those Islanders already in Australia).
“The two things go hand in hand,” Deakin explained. Stopping the “lesser races” from arriving (with Islander recruitment ceasing in 1903) and expelling those who were currently resident: these were “the necessary complement of a single policy – the policy of securing a White Australia”.
The new nation thus signalled its birth by [...] ethnically cleansing its former slaves. The deportations began in 1904.

Oh they are fully angling for a half in half out solution. I really do think they’ll sell there current property in mochetio and buy closer to La and a second property in England. We’re going to get a major Pr offensive closer to TCP about the children joining. I ultimately don’t think they will but Meghan is going to pump as much out of it as she can.
The Royal Re-Brand
They are going back to the only thing that actually worked for them.
Harry is the son of the King. That's what they are going to focus on.
Their Jamaica appearance makes sense now. They are angling for a Commonwealth gig and back in the fold.

A Conservative politician is making millions off of slavery 190 years after slavery was abolished in Britain and its territories.
Tory Richard Drax comes from a filthy rich family notorious for having established the model for slave-based sugar plantations in the Caribbean in the 1620s. Even by the standards of a slave-based economy, the record of the Drax family was appalling.
The Barbados plantation was worked by up to 327 slaves at a time, with the death rate for both adults and children high. Sir Hilary Beckles, chairman of the 20-state Caribbean Community’s (Caricom) Reparations Commission and vice-chancellor of the University of the West Indies, estimates that as many 30,000 slaves died on the Drax plantations in Barbados and Jamaica over 200 years.
Thanks largely to their their ill-gained riches, the Drax family owns a 700 acre walled estate in Dorset which includes a deer park. And apparently they are getting even richer.
Despite threats to make Richard Drax pay reparations and seize his family’s plantation – described by one historian as a “killing field” of enslaved Africans – the government is now planning to pay market value for 21 hectares (about 15 football pitches) of his land for housing. The move has angered many Barbadians, especially those who say the Drax family played a pivotal role in the development of slavery-based sugar production and the Barbados slave code in the 17th century. This denied Black Africans basic human rights, including the right to life. Critics have called the planned deal an “atrocity” and said this is “one plantation that the government should not be paying a cent for”. Trevor Prescod, MP and chair of the Barbados National Taskforce on Reparations, said: “What a bad example this is. Reparations and Drax Hall are now top of the global agenda. How do we explain this to the world? “The government should not be entering into any [commercial] relationship with Richard Drax, especially as we are negotiating with him regarding reparations.”
It's baffling why the Barbadian government would enter into such a deal.
Drax, the MP for South Dorset, travelled to Barbados to meet prime minister Mia Mottley. It is understood he was asked to hand over all or a substantial part of Drax Hall plantation. If he refused, legal action would follow. Mottley’s spokesperson said the current Drax Hall purchase was not linked to reparations and the government “constantly acquires land through this process”. Mottley has pledged to build 10,000 new homes to meet demand on the island, where there are 20,000 applications for housing. A senior valuation surveyor said the market value for agricultural land with an alternative use for housing would be about Bds$150,000 (£60,000) an acre. At this price, the 21 hectares could net Drax Bds$8m (£3.2m). The land would be for 500 low- and middle-income family homes, which would be for sale.
I'd just grab the land and pay Drax a token £1 just so he legally can't claim he wasn't compensated at all for the transfer.
Barbados poet laureate Esther Phillips, who grew up next to Drax Hall, said the planned deal was an “atrocity” and a case of the victims’ descendants now compensating the descendant of the enslaver. “He should be giving us this land as reparations, not further enriching himself … at the expense of Barbadians. As Barbadians, we must speak out against this.”
And with the reported thousands of deaths during the 200+ years of slavery at the Drax plantation, how many people will be comfortable with the idea that their new home is built on what was essentially a forced labor camp which became a model for regional slavery? Isn't the Drax property on Barbados a large cemetery?

What does Charborough Park, Dorset (above) and Drax Hall, Barbados (below) have in common?
Both belong to the super-rich UK Conservative MP Richard Drax.
Also... slavery
Drax Hall Estate: is a still operating 621 acre sugar plantation owned by the Drax family since the 1640s. Dubbed a 'killing field' it is estimated that close to 30,000 enslaved African men, women and children died on the Drax Caribbean plantations over 200 years, while the Drax family made enormous profits. The family also part-owned at least two slave ships.
By 1832, shortly before slavery was abolished, there were 275 people enslaved on the plantation producing 300 tons of sugar and 140 puncheons of rum. Though slavery was abolished during 1833-1834, abuses still continued.
The Drax family meanwhile received compensation for the end of slavery. Records show John Sawbridge Erle-Drax was awarded £4,293 12s 6d - worth £3M today - for 189 slaves.
The Barbados MP Trevor Prescod commented that “The Drax family had slave ships. They had agents in the African continent and kidnapped black African people to work on their plantations here in Barbados. I have no doubt that what would have motivated them was that they never perceived us to be equal to them, that we were human beings. They considered us as chattels.”
The Drax family also expanded into Jamaica, but sold those estates in the 1850s.
Barbados and Jamaica are rightfully seeking reparations from the Drax family.
In 2021 it was claimed that the current Drax Hall workforce earns as little as £24 a day (half the Barbados average wage), and the modest retirement bonus of workers has been axed.
Charborough Park: is a 7000 acre estate flanked by the longest brick boundary wall in England. Stretching for miles and consisting of nearly 3 million bricks, it's mockingly known as the Great Wall of Dorset.
The Hall is the ancestral and current home of the Drax family.
Author Nick Hayes has commented that "this wall, surrounding the grounds of Charborough House ... was built by Richard Drax’s ancestor, John Sawbridge, who married into the Drax dynasty, and who was able to finance the build following a recent windfall from his sugar-cane estates in the Caribbean – although the money came not from his sugar, but from his slaves."
English plantation owners including the Drax family used the vast profits from slavery to buy land (once common land) back in England, which often came with a parliamentary seat before later reforms. So in other words the profits of slavery effectively provided their political careers, as they stole what was once public land.
Nick Hayes: "The interior of the Drax estate tells a silent story of what the colonialists did with their property. The purchase of land secured a firmer grip on power, not just in one lifetime, but for many generations to come. Farming, forestry, pleasure gardens, hunting, shooting – all of these became reliable sources of income, an accumulation of private profit in direct proportion to the dispossession of the commonwealth. In fact, what happened abroad – the mining of minerals, the rent on land, the dispossession of the locals – were colonial methods first practiced on English soil, as the landlords colonised the commons at home."
A further 125 properties in Dorset alone brings the total land ownership in the county to around 14000 acres. Drax owns other estates across the UK.
Harrow educated Richard Drax is worth an estimated £150 million. A far-right Tory MP (and sometime BBC journalist?!) since 2010 and the sixth of that family to be an MP, he is a rabid Brexiteer, opposed to such as covid lockdowns and the minimum wage. He was caught underpaying some of his Dorset employees in what was claimed an "error" - he seems to make many such "errors" such as failing to declare ownership of the Drax Estate as a member of parliament.
In 2010 Richard Drax stated that “I can’t be held responsible for something 300 or 400 years ago. They are using the class thing and that’s not what this election is about, it’s not what I stand for and I ignore it.” On this Nick Hayes commented "Blunt, but effective, especially since the education system and institutions of England have followed the same approach."
Whether Drax acknowledges it or not his position, his entire life, wealth and career is a consequence and benefit of the slave trade, a trade that ended less than 200 hundred years ago on his Barbados estate - which continues to exploit its workforce to the present.
David Comissiong, Barbados ambassador to the Caribbean Community, said: “This was a crime against humanity and we impose upon him and his family a moral responsibility to contribute to the effort to repair the damage.
You can’t simply walk away from the scene of the crime. They have a responsibility now to make some effort to help repair the damage.”
As an MP, Drax has supported lowering welfare benefits, ending educational financial support for 16 to 19-year-olds, and the imposition of the “bedroom tax” on poor council tenants. During an immigration debate in parliament Drax - the owner of a 7000 acre estate with little but a mansion complex built upon it stated “this country is full”.
And Drax is just one of many similar people in the UK (and beyond).

Wait so were Keith and Mick doing sex tourism? tbh it's not unlike the infamous white ladies who vacation in the Caribbean or Africa to find black men to **** because of their fetishistic perception of their sexuality. Or the old white men who go to poor countries in Asia where they can easily find Asian women and (sometimes boys)... Like doing to places for sex with people of specific ethnicities is creepy af and I don't know how that isn't a fetish, especially when the areas are more disadvantaged because of stuff like colonial history so there are people willing to commodity themselves if someone will spend even a little bit of money on them or buy them a meal etc
No, I don’t think so. I've never even heard of this until recently. Apparently, a former girlfriend of Mick Jagger’s claimed he would go to Jamaica to have sex with other girls. But I personally don't believe that Mick nor Keith went off to the Caribbean solely to fuck Black girls. I also don't believe Mick or Keith have a fetish for Black women. They've both dated all kinds of women (black, brown, white) from all over the world. They’re not like…weirdos, you know?! Yes, Mick dates more Black women than most, but he’s not creepy. He doesn’t have like “a thing” for them. He doesn’t care! Keith also once said in an interview in the 80s that he doesn’t have a physical type. But they were both dating Black women (out loud) even before they were famous and had money. Mick's first love was Black and Keith dated a Nigerian girl in England before the Rolling Stones. Mick and Keith also have properties all across the Caribbean in Jamaica, Mustique and Barbados, too. They go there a lot to get some sun, record and relax on holidays.

Bria and Jason were home from their honeymoon. They had so much fun and took a lot of pictures. Some were not appropriate to be shared. They would be hidden somewhere nobody could find them. She was meeting with Brad the following day to go over some projects he had lined up for them. Jason was excited for her. She was going to the studio to hang out with Mike and the band. He was invited to join her. No thanks. He was going to visit his friend.
The guys were excited to see her. They heard she and Jason got married! Congratulations! Mike told them all about the wedding. She thanked them. How was Jamaica? It was awesome! They laughed. It was so beautiful and relaxing. Where were her cats? They were with her parents. She had to go over and pick them up.
Jason was able to get cocaine for him and heroin for her. They were expensive! He spent over a hundred dollars just for two small baggies. When he left, he made sure nobody was watching him. He was always paranoid about being arrested. The cocaine didn’t help. The drugs were in his pocket. He put them into his bag before driving off. Since she was hanging out with the band, he would go over and check on the progress of the house they were building.
It was her dream house! They put together what she wanted. Some of what she wanted was not realistic. There were other things he vetoed. They had to work together to negotiate. He agreed to have a cat playroom for Micha and Henry. They needed a place they could go to when they were overwhelmed or overstimulated.
The house would have his and her walk-in closets; a movie theatre room, a contemporary kitchen, an outdoor kitchen, a pool, a formal dining room, a recording studio, a home office and fencing surrounding the property for privacy. They talked about having an elevator. After some back and forth, they decided not to add it because it wasn’t a necessity. They could always add it later. She trusted him because she had no idea what the hell she was doing.
He laughed. It was coming together nicely. They would be able to move in six months. On his way home, he stopped at the post office to get their mail. Among the usual bills and junk mail was an advanced copy of Vogue with their wedding photos. He flipped through it. They did a great job of photography and putting together the article.
They needed to go over their finances. He would enlist Mike to help him with that. They had to create an outline of what they had every month. He would be going back to Cambridge, so they also had to talk about that. She never had a budget before. Her parents let her buy whatever she wanted. As a married woman, she couldn’t do that anymore. He was prepared for her to be unhappy when he cut off her endless spending. She wouldn’t throw a tantrum.
She wouldn’t be jumping for joy, either. It was not an easy discussion. Mike came prepared. He had Rob set up a budget for them since he was great with numbers and math. Together, they calculated how much she spent shopping and going out to eat every day. They guessed she spent fifteen hundred dollars shopping and two hundred dollars eating out twice a day.
They cut those numbers in half. Seven hundred fifty dollars for shopping and one hundred dollars for eating out. It was a lot less than what she usually spent. He justified those numbers by showing her how much their bills would be every month, including her medications and therapy appointments co pays. What if one of her cats needed emergency vet care? He added that into the math. Plus, vehicle maintenance and insurance.
As he laid everything out, she finally recognised how expensive everything was. She was so used to her parents paying for everything, she never thought about how much everything was. That was why they were talking about it. Thankfully, she didn’t go shopping very often. Maybe every few months. He was relieved that she was receptive to what he was saying.
To help her see how much money she was spending, they talked about getting her a new credit card with a limit. Once she hit that limit, she wouldn’t be able to spend anymore. Jason would hold on to her unlimited credit card, so she wouldn’t be tempted. She reluctantly agreed. Mike thanked her for being open to their suggestions. She thought her parents would get a kick out of them putting her on a budget. Yeah, they probably would.
“Welcome to the real world, Bria. It’s expensive and your parents can’t pay for everything forever”, Mike said.
“It’s fifty dollars for two meals or one hundred dollars for one meal.”
“Yes.”
When the cats came out to see what they were doing, she jokingly told them not to get sick. They were expensive already. Meow. Mike and Jason laughed. Mike thought he heard one of them coughing. She better take him to the vet. Fuck you. He laughed. Henry had no idea what they were talking about, as he jumped up on her lap. She petted him and scratched his head, making him purr. They laughed because she was so affectionate with her cats.
He had to be back to the sober house in an hour. When he got back, he had to check in and prove he was still sober. All he had to do was have a conversation with one of the staff. They could then assess by the smell of his breath and his body language if he was drinking or using drugs. He didn’t mind doing it because he wanted to prove himself.
They let him go to the wedding because it was a special event. The house had twenty-four-hour staff, so he checked in when he got back. The next morning, he had to check in again before breakfast. During his therapy appointment, they talked about the wedding. It was an event he would never forget or stop talking about. He couldn’t wait for his band to bring it up, so he could talk about it some more. It was like he was a small child who got a new puppy.
He just had to tell people! His roll of film was being developed at Walgreens. He was excited to see the pictures! Until then, he would buy the magazine when it came out.
Jasper was not doing well. He was having one of his episodes of depression. Christina recognised the signs. She asked if he was at risk of hurting himself. Yeah, he was. Did he have a plan? Yeah, he admitted he did. She was going to bring him to the hospital. He sat down in the chair and cried with his head in his hands. She came over and sat in front of him.
Why did he want to kill himself? Because they didn’t need him anymore. Bria didn’t need him anymore. She tried to convince him that wasn’t true. The voices in his mind were louder than hers. He felt hopeless and tired of living. They would be happier without him. No, they wouldn’t. Bria would always need him. She was his little girl. Please let me bring you to the hospital. He nodded and agreed to go. Thank you.
