Trouble was coming. You could feel it in your bones. Maybe it was the extra shot of espresso you had today or the wild predictions in your horoscope, but you definitely sensed something brewing. It didn’t help that Enzo had interrupted your lunch and dragged you back to campus for god knows what reason.

"Enzo if this is another one of your tricks to get me to dance with you it's not going to work. Remember what happened last time?" 

You dug your heels into the grass as your best friend continued to drag you across the field. The campus auditorium came into view and you frowned. There was no reason for you to even be there today so why was Enzo tugging you along like bait?

“Yes Y/n I remember what happened last time.”

"I fractured my ankle and I do not want to wear a cast ever again. I couldn't match the darn thing with any of my clothes." You huffed out a breath at the memory of the ugly accessory that the doctors had insisted on your wearing despite your protests. 

Admittedly you were a bit of a spoiled brat but at least you knew that you were. Going to a normal university was one of your father’s choices. You would have never gone somewhere so shabby on a daily basis. Truth be told on the first day, you were actually planning to ditch and go grab a chai latte. Then you bumped into Enzo accidentally and the two of you seemed to click. 

It was a good friendship. He’d always be able to tell you when you were being a tad bit annoying because of your rich girl behaviour and you’d be able to join him in his multiple activities. One which led to the infamous ankle incident. 

“Don’t worry Y/n, you’ll still be able to wear that Gucci jacket-”

“It was an Armani jacket.”

“Yeah yeah.” Enzo pushed open the door to the auditorium, and you were immediately greeted by the sound of drums pounding heavily. The amplified sound hurt your ears. “Welcome to the band.” 

“Um...Enzo, do I need to remind you of the time when I broke a guitar?” You nervously watched the live band on stage. Technically it wasn’t your fault that the guitar broke. Enzo never did tell you how to properly use it. “And when did you join a band?”

“Please don’t remind me Y/n also I didn’t actually join the band I’m more of a-”

“Hey Enzo!” 

The music stopped. Your head whipped around and your eyes nearly fell out of their sockets at the absolute hunk that had just shouted. His dark hair seemed to glow under the spotlight making him look like some sort of angel. Your mouth ran dry when he waved a drumstick at you. His fingers looked as if they’d been carved out of stone. And his biceps. God his biceps. The guy was ripped. He was a drummer as well. What was more sexy than a drummer?! 

“Hey Theo!” Enzo, your backstabbing friend who knew your weakness for hot boys with dark hair that played the drums, embraced him in a tight hug. “The practice is going well.”

“I know!” 

Good god, his eyes were like beautiful whirlpools of love. The two boys started talking animatedly about something to do with music. There were a few words thrown here and there that you recognised but other than that you stood watching wide-eyed at the conversation in front of you. 

“Who’s the pretty lady?”

Theo turned to face you and seeing his face up close only made you want to kiss him more. He really was gorgeous. You cleared your throat, straightening your skirt. “I’m Y/n, Enzo’s best friend, and you are?”

“Theo.” He offered you his hand, which you shook. Wow, his hands were soft. You were almost jealous. Time to buy new hand cream. “Hey, I’ve heard of you. You’re that girl who nearly broke her foot when dancing.”

Your cheeks flushed. Was this your legacy now? The girl that nearly broke her foot while dancing? How horrible. You would much rather be known for your stunning looks or incredible fashion sense. 

“Actually I twisted my ankle but who’s keeping track?” 

“Y/n isn’t the best dancer or guitarist.” Enzo chimed in. “She’s really good at maths though, she’s my second brain.” He said it as if you were simply another organ in his body, but you let it slide, trying to make a good impression on the drummer boy.

Theo chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Well, it's good to know Enzo has a brain to rely on."

You giggled at his remark, feeling the tension ease a bit. "Yeah, he needs all the help he can get."

"Hey!" Enzo protested, a small pout forming. "I'll have you know I'm quite capable on my own."

"Sure you are." You teased, nudging him playfully. Then, turning back to Theo, you asked, "So, what kind of music do you guys play?"

Theo's face lit up with enthusiasm. "We're a rock band, mostly. Some original stuff, a few covers. We're actually looking for a new guitarist. Interested?" He winked, clearly joking.

You shook your head, laughing. "After what happened last time? I think I'll pass. I'm more of an appreciator of talent than a participant. But I might be persuaded to attend a private concert."

Theo laughed, a rich, warm sound that made your heart flutter. "A private concert, huh? I think we can arrange that."

Enzo rolled his eyes. "Oh boy, here we go."

Ignoring Enzo, you leaned a bit closer to Theo, your voice dropping to a playful whisper. "So, Theo, do you always look this good while playing the drums, or is today a special occasion?"

Theo raised an eyebrow, his smile turning into a smirk. "I guess you'll have to come to more practices to find out."

You gave him a once-over, pretending to think it over. "Maybe. I do have a very busy schedule, you know.”

“Sounds like a yes to me. We’ve got a gig this weekend, free up some space in that glamorous life of yours and come.

You tried your best to conceal your excitement at the fact you had just scored yourself a date with a very hot drummer. Forget about trouble today was definitely the best day of your life. 

"Alright, I'll be there." You agreed, feeling a flutter of excitement in your stomach. "But only if you promise me a private drum lesson afterward."

"It's a deal. I'll make sure you get the VIP treatment." Theo’s grin only widened and you felt your heart stutter at the sight. He really was handsome and if you didn’t know how he was single but that was good news for you.

“I’ve got some studying to catch up on but I’ll hold you to that.” You offered him a wave goodbye as you made your way out of the auditorium with Enzo. Theo simply smiled, reciprocating your action. 

A giddy feeling overtook your body as the sun shone down on you. There were millions and millions of butterflies soaring in your stomach and you could only squeal at the idea of seeing Theo in the next few days. Before your best friend could say anything you spun on your heels, this time dragging him along with you.

“We need to go shopping right now, I need a new outfit for the weekend.” 

Enzo could only groan as his feet automatically moved. It was going to be a long day.

Probably like a set of matching t-shirts, and I am talking about those t-shirts that had ‘I LOVE MY S/O’ or ‘IF FOUND PLEASE RETURN TO THEM’ ‘I AM THEM’ printed on them in bold. You had the most mischievous grin plastered on your face as he opened the packaging to find two absolutely hideous choices of garments (he would frame it like that, not me). However with a bit of whining and a little bit of bringing out your inner theatrics would finally lead him to wear the t-shirts. He would mostly wear it at home whenever you would wear your one. However, recent paparazzi pictures of him showed him wearing that specific t-shirt paired with some jeans and shades, a cup of coffee in his hand. When it reached you through the power of the internet, it sent you hollering. There were memes being posted every second and you lost no opportunity to troll your boyfriend. i had a quick question for you regarding things like wings on a doll. what do you think the maximum number of wings that can be put on a doll while still having it be functional is?

for a specific example, like, four sets of wings - would the size of the wings just need to be reduced, or would they need to be an entirely different material, or are they impossible to really achieve outside of something like fabric accessories that are separate from the doll?

i don't think there's a maximum; where there's a will, there's a way. anatomy alterations might be required if you need a lot of wings, but that's the fun of it when making unusual dolls. i'm currently working on a doll with a long body and 5-10 pairs of wings, depending on what ends up looking good.

some things to consider might be:

balance. a lot of wings on one side of the body will cause issues. that might be okay; just decide whether you want to balance the wing positioning/switch to a lighter material for independent standing, or make/buy a stand for the doll and always have it supported.

socket real estate. the wing root ball joints are often holding quite a lot of weight for a single joint. making them bigger helps the wings hold positions, but if you're putting a lot of wings close together and want all of them to be poseable individually, you might run out of space for the sockets. this could be circumvented by editing the body, or making wing groups instead of having every wing be a separate part.

Varc Does Gunpla: HG Sinanju

Hey Heleniacs,

As y’all may have been noticing, I’ve been posting more toy and Gunpla content lately, and I want to make it more of a “thing,” so I’ll be doing a series called “Varc Does Gunpla”/“Varc’s Toybox,” in which I discuss/review toys/Gunpla. This edition will focus on the HGUC Sinanju, originally released in 2010 by Bandai Spirits.

The HGUC Sinanju is a kit I’ve been wanting for years, ever since watching the TV anime version of Gundam Unicorn, officially titles as Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Re:0096. The Sinanju, piloted by Full Frontal, who may or may not be Char Aznable (or some descendant - he basically says he takes on the role of Char for his people/supporters, though Char proper appears to have died 3 years prior, but I digress), quickly became one of my all-time favorite mobile suits in all of Gundam. I saw the kit at a hobby shop one time, but decided against buying it for the sake of my wallet. I regretted my decision for years, but I think recently was the perfect time to get it, as I am at a point in which I am more comfortable detailing my kits over using stickers for accent details, such as the gold accents on the Sinanju. I like to think that I am pretty handy with a pen these days, between having a lot of practice with plamo and doing linework for my drawings.

Once I had the time to build the kit this weekend, it was a blast the whole time. All of the pieces fit just right, it felt rock solid in terms of structural integrity, and it was satisfying to run my gold Faber-Castell across the accent lines. A fellow artist on Twitter/mutual member of a mecha art Discord recommended that I get a gold paint pen, and it was an awesome investment. I got a white brush pen the same day, and both have been incredibly useful in giving my kits a more premium look in my opinion. These pens were fantastic for the Moderoid Shin Getter 1 I also built recently, though the effect may have been subtle.

It was a bit annoying to try to push parts into their sockets when I had just painted the gold accents, only for the paint to smear because I held the kit in just the wrong spots. As a result, I had to get creative about what to hold onto when snapping hands to wrist, torso to waist, and shield to forearm, for example. I suppose I could have waited for parts to dry, but I am extremely impatient, and just like to get things done. Nonetheless, I think the accents turned out pretty well. Honestly, my complaint probably comes down more to user error and flaw than anything else.

With this kit being 14 years old, one would expect a plethora of problems to either whinge about or fix with their almighty “modeling skills.” However, I have no real complaint with fitment, pose ability, accessory selection, color separation or solidity. One could complain about the sheer number of color-correcting stickers, which probably are a pain to get to contour and stick down to the pieces with gold accents. Out of the box, it may be a nightmare for some. That being said, I think I’ll put my “toxic veteran” hat on for a beat and say to put the “extra effort” in to carefully take care of the accents yourself. The results are pretty worth it, and it feels more personal that way, at least for me. I guarantee that if Bandai release this kit today, they would make all of the accents separate parts with either gold cast plastic or painted gold plastic. They’d probably even use the dreaded gold-plated plastic and make it a Gundam Base or P-Bandai exclusive or whatever. I’m sure a few people would call for that, and shout from the rooftops, “HGUC SINANJU 2.0 WHEN?!” To that, I say, “How about never? This kit is already great.” I feel like doing more color separation might take some of the soul out, as much soul as a megacorporate behemoth like Bandai could even put into it. That’s just me, I suppose. It’s been 9 years since I’ve started the hobby, and am proud of the skills I’ve built over those years, if slowly. For that reason, I’ve chosen to include WIP and finished product photos in this post. Anyways, see y’all on the flipside. Im deeply invested in your work stories, what do you mean bad part numbers? Like bad setup done inside them? Wrong BoMs n stuff?

Comiserating with my own problems lol, yesterday i confirmed that our 3PL (3rd party logistics) entered our product data so badly into their system that they overcharged us at least 780% on transports costs.

they set up the item attributes totally wrong, like

creating new PNs for items that are already set up because they were too lazy to search the mfg sku

adding incorrect quotes to PNs

incorrect/missing manufacturer names

incorrect attributes (entering a socket type and not CPU model for a system that currently has a CPU installed. socket type should only be used alone if a system does not have a CPU in it)

not following attribute naming conventions (EX: NIC cards have a field for size. there's a note beside it that says use FL for full length, HL for half length, FH for full height, and HH for half height so 4 letters should be entered like "HHHL". yet they enter shit like "half height HL" instead)

entering "N/A" for required attribute fields to skirt around actually filling them out

putting all item attributes in the item description rather than the fields specifically designed for them

entering an item description as both the description and the item name (which makes the name field extremely long so I have to truncate it or my reports look like shit)

entering the item name as the mfg sku

adding inventory locations that shouldn't be available for specific parts

using the category "accessory" for everything because they don't want to take the time to find a more accurate category on the list

checking a "serial required" box for things without mfg serials, like ethernet cables. also not checking it for things that need to be serialized.

attributing parts to the wrong customer account (visible only internally thank god but again, makes data bad so my reports are shit)

not checking vertical market boxes on CBOMs so I can't fucking track what market the product sales went to

making CBOMs that allocate parts from the wrong locations. and then they refuse to fix them because CBOMs can only be changed via ECO which takes forever (zero sympathy though it's their fault)

CHANGING PN ATTRIBUTES AFTER THE PNS HAVE BEEN APPROVED AND PURCHASED AND THEN BLAMING MY DEPT FOR THINGS NOT BEING RIGHT FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU

Let’s address this. I only have so many doll parts. The skin tones don’t match. IGNORE THAT. I don’t know how to stain a vinyl body to match. I like her tanned. This is a rainbow high body with a Barbie head. I think a Skipper head would be more proportionate, but you know what? I kinda like it. Custom face up, hand made outfit. Shoes she can stand up in without a doll stand. Detailed accessories.

And I do love that hair! The pink shirt is actually a bodysuit. Got pants, or another bottom you want to put on? You can! Skirt matched with something else? You can! Necklace is also separate. I detailed a Barbie necklace into an original piece. Those earnings are ... sharable! With you! (Backs are in the tea pot.)

Her head is a little stiff, but the rest of her has that coveted Rainbow High flexibility. I think the head is stiff because it has an original neck peg set up... but I don’t know how to change that yet, so... SUFFAH!

These are the shoes I customed, detailed, and formed to allow the doll to stand up on their own. They will fit any Rainbow High with the healed feet.
