Tumblr media
Judging by the quantity of buzz made by the close of 2016, this calendar year is heading to be all about chat-oriented interfaces, artificial intelligence, responsive designs, together with digital and augmented actuality in the mobile application universe. In order to do well and develop applications that are valuable and useful, a single wants to get ready for new difficulties. Therefore, it will become essential that we determine the most important trends of the time. Subsequent are 5 of the most impactful mobile UX tendencies for this 12 months: 1) Conversational Interfaces In accordance to a latest examine, an typical person only makes use of about 3 apps often and just one of them is commonly a messaging app. Men and women appreciate chatting, so every person needs to acquire gain and faucet into the pattern. But, when accomplishing so it can be also critical to generate characteristics that are special. For illustration, the Luka application, which tends to make it probable to converse with bots on a amount of subjects different from places to eat, daily news to thermonuclear physics. This is why voice-activated communication platforms, powered by artificial intelligence are heading to be extra well-known, equally as standalone apps as properly as built-in attributes. We have by now noticed what virtual assistants like Apple's Siri, Amazon's Echo and Microsoft's Cortana are able of executing. As this engineering progresses, we can anticipate conversational interfaces to turn into the greatest hits of 2017. 2) Consumer Experience Analytics Mobile apps have now been about long more than enough for absolutely everyone to know their probable. We can properly conclude that they are no longer used only by the youthful and know-how-savvy, but by everyone. And, consumers are mindful that they can get the best, that's why it truly is manufactured them extra demanding. In buy to realize the ideal user expertise, it really is critical to note that men and women occasionally do not use apps in the way that they are supposed to. This prospects to them receiving pissed off and as a result leaving a adverse assessment about the app. Consequently, it can be vital to have good conversation and analyse individual consumer expertise to increase applications. Analysing user experiences in applications can be performed through Qualitative Analytics instruments like consumer session recordings and touch heatmaps. With the enable of these resources developers are able to reduce bugs, pinpoint weak locations and layout a additional intuitive interface. Qualitative Analytics permits builders to guarantee that their apps are remaining made use of thoroughly. This trend is absolutely sure to choose up noticeably and will have a good impact on consumer expertise. 3) Personalisation in UI Structure Personalisation of UI Style and design is very similar to 'Responsive Design'. The difference among them is that responsive structure is about a internet site adapting to the format of a huge range of products, like 4K Tv set, Hd watch or a cellular phone. And, personalisation in UI design and style (or age-responsive layout), can be compared to a structure adapting to the layout of a particular person. This can be completed with the support of previously offered metadata, i.e. tapping into the data presently supplied by a consumer by the system, app or via different platforms/apps. They can provide information about regardless of whether the font measurement need to be elevated, level of brightness really should be diminished, or if flashing pictures and seems should be eradicated. Mobile application UI design can be expected to transfer further more absent from staying product-focused and turn out to be extra person-targeted. 4) VR/AR Augmented and digital actuality engineering (AR & VR) is an additional promising direction towards absolutely transforming the way we see and use apps. The concept of AR and VR has started off creating an influence on the cell sector. This strategy has develop into a likelihood as mobile devices are now capable to provide a wonderful total of processing energy. Galaxy S7 Edge, Google Pixel and Xiaomi Mi 5 all have VR-all set shows and are readily available on the industry. VR and AR have large likely in spots these kinds of as tourism, construction, shopping, education and interaction. For case in point, 'visiting' a tourist spot in advance of really checking out the position, a 'walk' about the new residence prior to renovation, hoping out clothes ahead of getting, mastering anatomy in techniques that could not be imagined 10 many years ago, or getting a virtual boardroom assembly. A great instance of this technological innovation is a Material Rendering Application created by Tailwebs that permits clients to take a look at design and style platters in textiles and furnishings, serving to them to finalise products and solutions conveniently. Also, an interactive system called Tailor - I has been launched by Textronic, which can be employed to choose customised garments. It is like your on the web garment stylist and tailor store that allows you to select collars, cuffs, lapels, plackets and a great deal much more. The chosen features can then be merged and the garment promptly visualised. With right infrastructure in position, AR and VR tech for mobiles will before long have increased concentrate. five) Navigation A different pattern that is undoubtedly picking up is giving users with different solutions to transfer via an application. Presently there are 3 navigation concerns prevailing in apps - Linear navigation, hamburger menu, and one-handed navigation (apps not getting usable with a single hand on massive smartphones). Linear navigation enables consumers to navigate through the app the exact same way.   In case you have any inquiries concerning where by and the best way to make use of redmi note 7 pro uae price, you are able to contact us on our site. Uber is a good illustration as consumers have to stick to a equivalent route - one) Established a pickup spot, 2) Established the place, three) Press 'request', 4) Rate the driver. What is now predicted is new and innovative navigation options that permit consumers to move by means of an app freely. A very good case in point is Amazon Shopping, wherever customers can browse by a amount of categories with out getting to go down a selected route to get to them.

Redmi Note 7 Review
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 full review Following a Chinese launch in January the Redmi Note 7 officially went on sale in the UK on 7 May, charging straight into the top spot in both our UK and Chinese budget phone charts, knocking the Mi A2 Lite off its perch. It's the first phone from newly spun-off Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi, and as such it marks a huge departure from Redmi as you know it.
Tumblr media
Headlining is a 48Mp dual-lens camera, and Redmi Note 7 was actually the first Xiaomi phone to pack such a high megapixel count - though Mi 9 then came along and did it better. There are some similarities between this budget phone and Xiaomi's flagship, but Redmi Note 7 is much more closely aligned in specs and performance with the Oppo F11 Pro, another Chinese phone that has not yet gone on sale in the UK (and may not ever do so).
It's also got a large 6.3in Full-HD+ screen and promises all day runtime from a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support. Plus some users will be very happy to see the inclusion of a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.
Xiaomi has kept down costs by specifying a mid-range Snapdragon 660 chip and 3- or 4GB of RAM, allowing this budget Android to be available from as little as £179. That's for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage model, while the 6GB RAM, 64GB storage model we review here costs £199. There's also a 128GB storage version at £249. You can choose from Space Black or Neptune Blue colour options.
Right now GearBest is offering an incredible deal on the entry-level 3GB/32GB option, where it costs just £113.54.
You can also buy Redmi Note 7 direct from Xiaomi, or from retailers such as Amazon. It will also be available on a contract basis from Vodafone.
The Redmi Note 7 is available in Europe from 179€, but if you're looking to buy in the US you'll need to import it from a site such as GearBest or Geekbuying. The latter is currently stocking the global version of the top-end Redmi Note 7 at the discounted price of £170.01/$209.99/185.57€. Do remember to take into account potential import duty fees, which is calculated at 20 percent of the value on the shipping paperwork.

Redmi Note 7 Design & Build Redmi Note 7 is not all that dissimilar in design to the flagship Mi 9, which packs a fractionally larger (6.39in) screen into an ever so slightly smaller chassis. Both have tall 19.5:9 panels and slim bezels - naturally slimmer on the Mi 9, but the only place this is really obvious to the untrained eye is on its smaller chin.
Each also feature a Dot Drop (waterdrop-style) notch to maximise the available screen space and house the selfie camera, which is more obvious on Mi 9 with its larger 20Mp sensor (Redmi Note 7 has a 13Mp front camera). There's also a blink-and-you'll-miss-it slit at the extreme edge between the screen and frame for the earpiece.
Around the back you'll find some more obvious differences, however, with a dual- rather than triple lens camera on the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi rather than Mi logo, and a physical fingerprint sensor. All members of the flagship Mi 9 family now use an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Arguably physical fingerprint sensors typically work better than these early in-display versions, and though it might be a fancy new feature to have the omission is not a game-changer.
Redmi Note 7 review
We tested the Black version so were unable to enjoy the gradient finish of the Blue model, but in pictures it looks gorgeous. With a glass back and front the Redmi Note 7 has a very premium design for a phone at this price point, and is only fractionally thicker than Xiaomi's flagship family at 8.1mm, though you will notice that glossy frame is plastic rather than metal. That extra space inside the case enables it to include a capacious 4,000mAh battery, too, matching the spec of the recently announced Mi 9T.
Something you won't find on Mi 9 phones (save for the Mi 9T) is the Redmi Note 7's 3.5mm headphone jack, which sits on the top edge of the phone alongside another increasingly rare feature: an IR blaster. While phone makers are rapidly making the switch over to USB-C audio, there are still plenty of users who want to use their existing earphones without an adaptor. Redmi Note 7 also has a bottom-firing mono speaker for audio.
At 6.3in the display is expansive, and ideal for watching high-resolution video and playing games. This is not the same AMOLED technology on Mi 9, but it's still good for the money, and actually nearly as bright - we recorded 398 nits using a Spyder. With a 2340x1080 Full-HD+ resolution everything is super-clear, too.
Although the Redmi Note 7 runs MIUI 10, on our review sample the system-wide Dark Mode setting found in the flagships is not available. It's possible this will come in the next update, with the Redmi running 10.3.2.0 and our Mi 9 running 10.3.3.0. This is useful not only because it seems to be the latest trend to do everything in Dark Mode, but because it drastically reduces the screen's impact on battery life.
The Redmi Note 7 also lacks the Ambient Display (always-on) mode found in Xiaomi flagships, which can additionally help you maintain battery life by reducing the frequency with which you feel you need to wake the phone to check the time or notifications. That could be an issue here, since Redmi Note 7 has the most ridiculous notification LED we've ever seen - it flashes up below the screen but is the tiniest little dot you could easily miss it completely.
Redmi Note 7 review
None of Xiaomi's current smartphone line-up is waterproof, though we wouldn't necessarily expect to find this feature at this price anyhow. Xiaomi also keeps down costs by excluding wireless charging from this phone, though it does support Quick Charge 4 and is supplied with a 10W USB-C charger in the box.
As with all Xiaomi phones you'll also find a silicon case is supplied, a nice touch given that these are not easily obtainable in UK High Street stores. The Note 7 does feature Gorilla Glass 5 to help protect it from scratches, but it is not infallible.
Redmi Note 7 Core Hardware & Performance The Note 7 is fitted with a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 14nm chip, which integrates an 850MHz Adreno 512 GPU. This is a step down from the also mid-range Snapdragon 712 and 730 found in the Mi 9 SE and 9T, but there's not a huge difference in performance - at least not anything the average user would be able to perceive - as you'll see in the comparison chart below.
You'll have seen this chip before, in the likes of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi Mi A2, Nokia 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy A9, Elephone U Pro and so forth. It's quite a popular processor. And while Redmi Note 7 is not significantly faster than any of those other phones that use it, something you should note is that it is significantly cheaper.
The Redmi Note 7 offers capable - if not flagship - daily performance, and provided you don't turn up the detail too much some very playable framerates. In GFXBench's T-Rex and Manhattan tests we recorded 46- and 21fps, for example.
The 4000mAh battery inside is good for a day's use, but no more. In Geekbench 4's battery test we recorded 7 hours 16 minutes, which is actually a pretty middling score and a little lower than we had anticipated given the huge capacity of the battery.
As we mentioned earlier on in this review you get a choice of 3- or 4GB of RAM. We tested the latter, and this is the version we recommend for the best performance, especially when it costs only an extra £20.
Redmi Note 7 review
A major advantage of Redmi over Mi is its support for storage expansion, so there's no reason why you shouldn't opt for the lower-capacity version and bolt on extra storage later, if and when you need it. Redmi Note 7 can accept microSD cards up to 256GB via a hybrid SIM tray - you must choose between dual-SIM functionality and storage expansion. If you do opt for a second SIM instead, know that either SIM slot can be used for 4G data, but unlike with the Mi 9 family you can't use 4G on both at once.
In terms of connectivity there's also dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and an IR blaster. You will not find NFC for making mobile payments, so if this is important to you step up to the Mi line.
Redmi Note 7 Cameras & Photography For a budget phone the Redmi Note 7's cameras are pretty good, though not quite as good as the marketing might have you believe.
The star of the show is a 48Mp lens that by default actually takes 12Mp shots. This is because it combines four pixels into one, averaging out the quality, exposure, colours and so on to create one significantly better-looking super pixel.
This is paired with a 5Mp secondary lens for blurred background (bokeh) shots, and together the Note 7 is capable of some decent - if a little dull - photography, given good lighting. Zoom right in and some noise is visible, but zoomed out the results are more than acceptable for a sub-£200 phone.
In low lighting the camera has more work to do, and even in Night mode it still struggles. Here you need to be really careful to keep the camera still for what feels like forever as it processes the shot. Though it did a good job of picking out different colours, including the different shades of black, text can be a little fuzzy and edges less well defined. Not a bad result, but equally not the best.
This is an AI camera, which means Xiaomi's software can intelligently set an appropriate preset for the shooting scenario. The app is very easy to use, and you can quickly switch between photo and video, Portrait, Night, Square, Panorama and Pro modes, and there's a shortcut for preinstalled Google Lens right within the app, too.
There's also an option to shoot in 48Mp, though all this is going to really do for you is gobble through your storage, since the results are not any better for the extra pixels.
The Redmi Note 7 supports 1080p video capture at 30- or 60fps with image stabilisation, but 4K and slow-mo video is off limits.
Around the front is a 13Mp AI camera for selfies, and in this mode the app offers quick access to various beauty settings.

Redmi Note 7 Software The Redmi Note 7 runs MIUI 10, which is a custom version of Android 9 Pie. Since we're using a Global ROM model it comes preinstalled with Google services and an English-language keyboard and interface, so setup is as simple as on any Android phone.
You will find Xiaomi offers its own version of most Google apps, which does mean there's some duplication here, and most cannot be deleted (or removed from the app tray-less home screen, though you can tuck them away in a folder where they will remain out of sight and out of mind). This is for good reason, since Chinese ROM MIUI devices don't have those Google apps. Some of these apps are pretty decent, however, so either use them, or don't - there's enough storage that you don't really need to worry about them.
Redmi Note 7 review
We noted earlier that the Redmi Note 7 currently lacks the Dark Mode and Ambient Display found on the Mi 9 family. The software is pretty much the same in other respects, and there are some great extras only found on Xiaomi phones such as Dual Apps and Second Space.
A Split-screen mode is also found in the recents menu, with is accessible either from the onscreen button or by swiping from the bottom of the screen and then pausing before lifting your finger in the gesture-only Full Display mode.
While the notification LED is so pathetic that you're likely to miss it completely, you do get individual app control over which are allowed to display notifications on the lock screen or float at the top of the screen, which means only the most important will be allowed to distract you. Finding your way around the settings may not be immediately obvious, however.
Redmi Note 7 Conclusion Redmi Note 7 is a very decent mid-range phone with a budget price. In the UK budget smartphone market none of its similarly priced rivals (think Mi A2 Lite, Honor 10 Lite, Moto G7 Power) even come close.
In design it's not all that far removed from Xiaomi's flagship, with a similarly large and almost as bright display, but it's not of quite the same quality. In performance most users would not be able to separate Redmi Note 7 and Mi 9 SE, and it's as capable as many phones costing £350.
Compared to the flagship line it adds microSD support and a headphone jack, but loses the wireless charging, in-display fingerprint sensor and NFC for mobile payments. The triple-lens camera is here reduced to a dual-lens model, but still has a huge 48Mp lens headlining.
On paper the capacious 4,000mAh battery looks amazing; in reality you should get a full day's use from it.

The Redmi Note 11E Pro and the Redmi Note 11E 5G form a one-two smartphone launch from the world's number 3 Smartphone company. The release of the Redmi Note 11E Pro 5G is official and was presented during Redmi's online event. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11E Pro is a very competitive mobile for the price at which it is put up for sale for its launch on Ali express for various reasons. We have reviewed several of them to get you out of doubt about what it has to offer. For now, the stock in the different stores is limited, although obviously, the official Xiaomi store is the first option when it comes to taking advantage of the launch Unlike previous models, the 2022 Redmi Notes have a design with more angular frames, with straight lines and squares. On other occasions, they bet on the roundness, but that has now been abandoned. Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Another budget superstar from Xiaomi
Tumblr media
The follow-up to the incredible Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T has a lot to prove. Is it the best phone under £200?
Pros Decent battery lifeExcellent quad cameraIncredible value for moneyCons No major improvements on Redmi Note 8T
Every few months, the bar for what makes a good budget smartphone gets raised even higher and Xiaomi is usually the culprit. The £179 Redmi Note 8T inevitably blew us away at the start of the year, with its snazzy design and flagship-chasing features.
Barely five months have passed and I already have its direct sequel, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, sitting on my lap. With budget champions from Motorola and Realme hitting the shops, does the Redmi Note 9 have what it takes to set the new benchmark for smartphones that cost less than £200?
READ NEXT: The best budget smartphones
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: What you need to know
The Note 9 isn’t the only Redmi phone to launch in the UK this year, as Xiaomi has also released the Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note 9 Pro. There is also a Redmi Note 9 Pro Max floating around in the international markets but, as far as we know, it won’t be coming to Blighty. The Redmi Note 9 is the smallest and cheapest of the three Redmi phones you can buy in the UK.
It’s available in two configurations, coming with either 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage or 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. For this review, Xiaomi has sent us the heftier 4GB/128GB loadout. The Redmi Note 9 runs Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 operating system, which is based on Android 10 and is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. Like the Redmi Note 8T before it, it has some luxury features that you wouldn’t expect from a budget smartphone, including a quadruple rear camera.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Price and competition
The cheaper Redmi Note 9, with 3GB of RAM and 64GB storage, has launched for the reasonable sum of £179, which is exactly the same price as the Redmi Note 8T we reviewed some months back. That variant isn't available in the UK yet, but the 4GB/128GB model we're testing here has been released in the UK with an RRP of £199.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 4GB/128GB Midnight Grey (Official UK Version)

At the time of writing, Xiaomi and Amazon UK are actually selling this version at the reduced price of £179, but we don't know how long that £20 discount will last.
Motorola Moto G8 (6,4" HD+ zero-notch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon SD665, 16MP main camera, 2MP macro camera, 4000 mAH battery, Dual SIM, 4/64GB, Android 10, Neon Blue, Neue Blue, a_NA
£139.00

One sub-£200 phone that you might want to consider instead is the Motorola Moto G8. At only £180, it straddles the line between performance and affordability and, for that reason, it’s our favourite budget Moto to date. If you’re willing to spend just that little bit extra, then the £220 Realme 6 delivers sensational performance for a budget phone while, somehow, maintaining exceptional battery life.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Design
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8T was a beauty of a budget phone, but I’m less enamoured with the Redmi Note 9. The greyish-blue colour of its plastic chassis is rather dull, although it catches the light nicely at certain angles, and I’m not a fan of the way Xiaomi has placed the fingerprint reader and quad camera into one big rectangular box on the rear.
Image 8 of16
The camera module isn’t flush with the back either, so it doesn’t rest flush against a flat surface when placed face up. The body itself feels cheap to the touch, and it’s quick to collect greasy fingerprints. That’s less of an issue on the front, where the display is protected by a smooth layer of Gorilla Glass 5.
Image 3 of16
On that note, the face of the phone has seen an improvement. The bezels surrounding the display are just as slim as those of the Note 8T, if not slimmer, and Xiaomi has done away with the central teardrop notch of the Note 8T. Instead, the selfie camera is embedded inside the upper left corner of the display. It fits in quite well and looks much sleeker than the old notch design but, if you don’t like it, you can always conceal it by activating the black notch-hiding bar using the display settings.

Although the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 is bigger than its predecessor, with a 6.53in display to the Note 8T’s 6.3in, it manages to weigh a gram less at 199g. Measuring 162 x 77 x 8.9mm, the phone definitely falls into the larger end of the spectrum, however. When holding the phone in one hand, it’s a serious stretch to reach the upper row of apps with my thumb without first sliding the phone down my palm.
Image 11 of16
Elsewhere, the design remains much the same. There is a combined dual-SIM and microSD tray on the left edge and, on the right-hand side, you’ll find the power button and volume rocker. The bottom edge houses a 3.5mm audio jack, a lone speaker and a USB-C charging port. Wireless charging isn’t on the cards, though at this price that won’t come as much of a surprise. It does at least support NFC for contactless payments, which is an essential feature in these times.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Display
As I mentioned previously, the Redmi Note 9’s IPS display measures 6.53in across the diagonal and has a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution, giving it a pixel density of 395 pixels per inch. In that regard, it’s not much different to the Note 8T, which has a marginally smaller screen but exactly the same resolution.
There are actually three display modes, or ‘colour schemes’, on the Redmi Note 9: Auto, Saturated and Standard. We tested all three using a professional colour calibrator and found that the Auto and Saturated modes offer the best experience, both covering roughly 93% of the sRGB colour gamut with a gamut volume of around 108%.
Image 5 of16
Overall colour accuracy is actually slightly better in Saturated mode compared to Auto mode; we recorded average Delta E results of 3.04 and 3.74, respectively, meaning the Saturated setting comes closer to delivering natural colours.

To my eyes, however, the Auto setting – which adjusts colours ‘based on the current lighting’ – is easily the most appealing in terms of colour reproduction. It’s the brightest mode too, producing a maximum luminance of just over 359cd/m². The Standard mode is the worst of the three by far, as it reduces the display’s brightness significantly while simultaneously bathing the screen in a warm candle-like hue.
Image 6 of16
Provided you stick to the Auto setting, this is a fantastic FHD display with a high contrast ratio of 1,132:1 and strong colour vibrancy that lends plenty of pop to on-screen images, and it’s bright enough to use outdoors without having to squint.
That’s all well and good, but how does it compare to the Redmi Note 8T? Well, the Note 8T we tested had a fantastic display that covered 95.7% of the sRGB gamut with a volume of 96.5%, so colours looked great without being oversaturated. Additionally, it had a higher maximum brightness of 482cd/m2 and a superior 1,517:1 contrast ratio. In short, the Note 8T’s display was better.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Performance and battery life
In raw power terms, the Redmi Note 9 is on par with its predecessor. It’s powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 CPU which is backed by 4GB of RAM and achieved similar single-core and multi-core results to the Redmi 8T with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 655.
The Moto G8 – which packs that same 655 chip – scored nigh-on identical results. The true champion here, though, is the Realme 6. Packing a MediaTek G90T CPU, it pulled slightly ahead of every other budget rival in our GeekBench testing, as demonstrated in the chart below.
The gaming capabilities of the Redmi Note 9 are certainly up to scratch. Since it has an FHD display, it won’t be able to hit the same onscreen frame rates as budget phones with lower resolution screens, like the Moto G8, but it’s worth the hit for that extra detail.
I was able to play demanding online Android titles like Call of Duty: Mobile without suffering any notable frame rate drops across consecutive games. It’s also able to run PUBG Mobile pretty cleanly in HD and with the frame rate set to high, but towards the end of one longer match the rear of the phone was getting toasty so I had to drop it down to medium settings. In games like these, the extra-large screen actually gives you an advantage over many players too, because everything’s that little bit easier to see.
Despite the phone’s ample display size and FHD resolution, the Redmi Note 9’s 5,020mAh battery managed to keep it going for 15hrs 44mins in our standardised battery rundown test.
That’s 51 minutes longer than the Redmi Note 8T lasted in the same test, though it still falls well short compared to the battery efficiency of the Moto G8 and Realme 6. The Note 9’s battery life is impressive nonetheless, and on a full charge, it will last you an entire day of moderate usage without needing a top-up.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Camera
As you know by now, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 has a quadruple rear camera. This camera setup may have moved position since the Redmi 8T but its specifications remain much the same: each of the individual cameras has the same megapixel and aperture as they did on the 8T.
Image 9 of16
The primary snapper is, of course, that 48MP, f/1.8 monster, which is supported by an 8MP, f/2.2 wide-angle lens, a 2MP, f/2.4 depth module for taking bokeh (or blurred background) shots and, finally, a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens for shooting small objects up close and personal.
That macro snapper is particularly impressive, as you can see from the detail it captured on the rim of a 5p coin and the soft fur of a koala teddy bear.
Due to the constraints of working remotely, I was unable to conduct out our usual office-based camera tests, so I’ve had to make do with snapping some local landmarks, such as the local yard and the houses visible outside my window.
The level of precision achieved by the 48MP module is remarkable, just as it was on the Note 8T. Vegetation and brickwork come out clearly defined, even when shot from a considerable distance, and the colours look vibrant and realistic.
Xiaomi’s camera software is straightforward and shoots in HDR at 12MP by default. You need to switch shooting modes if you would rather capture 48MP images. The ‘Pro’ shooting mode is great fun to play around with, and it’s useful too, allowing you to manually tweak the focus, ISO and shutter speed to your liking.
At the front, Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi Note 9 with a single 13MP (f/2.3) camera which, on paper, sounds like a downgrade from the Note 8T’s 13MP (f/2.0) shooter. It’s good, but it does seem to flatten out detail in an effort to beautify its subjects. I ended up looking a lot less stubbly and lockdown-crazed than I really was, which I suppose was a bonus.
Image 15 of16
Video shoots in 1080p at 30fps on both the selfie camera and main quad camera. Quality is great for a budget phone and, on the rear snapper, it’s helped along nicely with some effective image stabilisation. Aspiring TikTok stars will be pleased to know that there’s a separate ‘short video’ shooting mode that captures footage in fifteen-second chunks.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 review: Verdict
Whether you buy the £179 model or the £199 version tested here, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 is incredible value for money. It has a large, good-quality FHD display, a fantastic quadruple camera setup and it delivers performance that’s on par with one of its key competitors, the Motorola Moto G8.
Up until this point, we’ve held the Redmi Note 8T up as the pinnacle of budget smartphone technology. In most regards, the Redmi Note 9 is better – or at least as good – as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T that came before it. With that said, the Redmi Note 8T’s display was more colour accurate, brighter and had a higher contrast than the Note 9’s. Ultimately, if you have less than £200 to spend and want to get the most from your money, then you’d be equally happy with either phone.

Honor 9X launch: Price in India, specifications
Honor, the sub-brand of Huawei, finally brought its Honor 9X smartphone to the Indian market. Although there was a significant gap between the phone’s original China launch and India release, the differences between Chinese and Indian models make the wait slightly worthwhile. Honor 9X is already on sale in the country via Flipkart and it has been priced at Rs. 13,999 for the base 4GB + 128GB variant. The higher-end 6GB + 128GB model will set buyers back by Rs. 16,999. It can be purchased in Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue colour options. Just for one day, Honor is offering Rs. 1,000 discount on the Honor 9X price.
Honor 9X is a dual-SIM smartphone and runs Android 9 Pie with the custom EMUI 9.1 skin on top. It packs a 6.59-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) display, HiSilicon Kirin 710F SoC, up to 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of onboard storage that can further be expanded via a microSD card (up to 512GB). Additionally, there is 4,000mAh battery with 10W charging support, USB Type-C port, fingerprint sensor, and the usual connectivity options.

Telecom news: Jio subscribers, Vodafone new prepaid plans, BSNL plan revisions
As per a part of its quarterly results, Reliance revealed this week that Jio now has 370 million subscribers. The company has also revealed that it added 37.1 million subscribers in the quarter ending December 31. Jio also notes that it added 135.7 million subscribers in the entire previous year. Overall, year-over-year (YoY), Reliance Jio saw a 32.1 percent growth in subscribers in the quarter. In other titbits, the company noted that Jio’s total wireless data traffic in the period was 12.08 billion gigabytes (GB), up from 12.02 billion GB in the previous quarter, and a 39.9 percent growth YoY, based on an average data consumption per user per month of 11.1GB, down from 11.7GB in the previous quarter.
Vodafone has introduced two new prepaid plans at Rs. 99 and Rs. 555. Both new prepaid plans are currently limited to select circles and come bundled with benefits such as unlimited voice calls and high-speed data allocation along with free subscription to services such as Zee5. While the Rs. 99 Vodafone prepaid plan is believed to be a tweaked version of its earlier Rs. 149 plan, the Rs. 555 prepaid plan appears to be an update to the previously offered Rs. 598 option.
State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) revised three of its prepaid recharge plans this week. The Rs. 74, Rs. 75, and Rs. 153 BSNL prepaid plans now come with reduced validity. The plans earlier used to have a tariff validity of 180 days. All three prepaid recharge plans will now last just 90 days. Although BSNL has reduced the validity, the benefits of each plan remain unchanged.
More news: WhatsApp update, OnePlus 120GHz QHD+ Fluid Display Technology, Honor announcements
In other news, WhatsApp released a couple of beta version updates on Android this week – version 2.20.8 and 2.20.10. These updates include only one user-facing change – sticker pack updates, however they also indicate the Facebook-owned chat service has made improvements in the dark theme. Additionally, WhatsApp seems to be working on include support for animated stickers, something that is missing right now.
OnePlus officially announced its 120Hz Fluid Display technology this week that will include a dedicated MEMC motion compensation chip and come with a touch sampling rate. The new OnePlus Fluid Display technology will also bring 10-bit HDR support and has 4096-level of automatic brightness control through an all-new ambient sensor. The 120Hz Fluid Display technology is backed by an RGB colour temperature sensor that has 0.8 Just Noticeable Colour Difference (JNCD) rating. This is touted to be lesser than the JNCD rating available for the display of the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The laptops as well as the smart TV are expected to arrive in Q1 or Q2 this year. There is no word on the India pricing of any of the devices right now.
