Make a Week of Cheap, Easy, High-Protein Breakfasts in Less Than an Hour
If you’re looking to eat healthier, one of the best things you can do to make that happen is to make eating healthier easy. Like stupid easy. So easy, you hardly have to think about it. One way to accomplish this is to prepare your meals in advance so you know exactly what’s in them, and so that when you’re pressed for time, you don’t default to eating whatever unhealthy options are on hand or getting expensive, no-good-for-you fast food. When it’s time to eat, you just grab your ready-made meal from the fridge or freezer. You know, meal prep. One make-ahead meal I’ve been enjoying recently is a high-protein breakfast bake. I got the idea from a fella named Johnny Hadac on Instagram who serves up easy, affordable meal prep recipes for people looking to lose weight/eat better. This breakfast bake takes about 15 minutes to prep. The thing that takes the most time is dicing up your veggies. Bake time is about 35 minutes. When you’re done, you’ll have six tasty, high-protein, low-carb mini breakfast casseroles that will leave your belly feeling nice and full, but without a ton of calories. Just take a look at the macro breakdown for each bake: * Protein: 50 grams * Carbs: 12 grams * Fat: 22 grams * Total Calories: 452 Cost per bake is $3.50. You’d pay about $13 for a similar breakfast bake from one of those companies that sell ready-to-eat meals online. I know, because I’ve bought them before. So these babies are tasty, healthy, and cost-effective. Here’s how to make them. Ingredients * 6 eggs * 24 ounces egg whites * 24 ounces low-fat cottage cheese * 12 ounces mild cheddar cheese * 6 precooked chicken sausages (you can buy them already cooked) * 1 onion * 3 bell peppers * Salt and pepper Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit Queue up the Art of Manliness Podcast Great to listen to while you’re prepping these. Dice Onion and Bell Peppers This is what will take most of your time. Lay Out Six Cooking Pans on a Table We’re going to prep these like they’re on a Henry Ford Model-T assembly line. I used these aluminum meal prep pans that you can buy at most grocery stores. I recommend doing the same when you first try this out. If you decide to make this a regular thing, you can buy some Pyrex pans. It will save you money, and you’ll be able to reheat your bake in the microwave right in the dish. Spray Each Pan With Cooking Spray Crack One Egg in Each Pan Add ½ Cup of Egg Whites to Each Pan Add ½ Cup of Low-Fat Cottage Cheese to Each Pan If cottage cheese makes you squeamish, don’t worry, you don’t taste it. But it gives the bake more protein and some bulk. Add 1 Diced Sausage to Each Pan I used Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausages. Why? Because it was the only precooked chicken sausage available at my local Walmart Neighborhood Market. You could use whatever precooked meat you want to use: bacon, ham, ground beef, whatever. I used chicken sausage because it’s lower in fat and higher in protein. Add ¼ Cup of Mild Cheddar Cheese to Each Pan Add a Handful of Veggies to Each Pan Sprinkle With Salt and Pepper and Mix Ingredients Together You can also add other seasonings as desired, like Old Bay. You know I love me some Old Bay! Bake in the Oven for 35 Minutes Bam! A Week’s Worth of High-Protein Breakfasts If you baked them in the aluminum pans, just slide them onto a plate to reheat in the microwave. ~90 seconds should do the trick. These actually taste really good cold. I like to hit mine with some sort of hot sauce before consuming. Enjoy! Black and Decker Home Utility / Drill Powered Tools Reference Post, Will Update
Reach out if you have info or share the obsession
A accumulation of my knowledge for my drill powered tool obsession, a living document. Black and Deckers Home Utility Line were the trail blazers in this sphere from about 1950-1970. These tools were created because a good motor back then could be as much as a decent tool these days, and simple tools are sometimes sold this way still if they need to be cheaper then the cheapest brand (china/cheap stores), weight is a concern for shipping (china) or a motor is unnecessary (a paint mixer)
Owned hand drill powered (in order):
Disk sander (new, china, store, many brands, accepts standard disk pads)
Drill press (old, cast iron, hard/$ to ship, medium rare, mine is 1960's black and decker cast iron and only works w/ vintage B&D's but generics do exist. Moderns tend towards cheap aluminum crap, also in euro vid)
Paint mixer (new, common, currently sold in stores, was also in the original B&D kits)
Lathe (new, rare, mine's a portable crappy brandless 90's kit I got second hand (50cad), want to convert to morse taper, never seen one sold new, there's a rare/heavy cast iron B&D one, also euro vid)
Half sheet sander (old, box, medium rare, only seen the one brand but it has no name, I have the original box, going to try more in-depth searching, no manual in my box, foam bottom)
Circular saw (old, rare rare if with guard. Almost all sold ones are an adapter to an open blade, but a few ones with safety covers and 'feet'/plates exist. Mine has no makers mark, there's a euro one that's also a tablesaw, I've seen mine around rarely, there's a rare foot one from B&D, a foot one from SHER, will research and update)
I want drill powered:
Electric grinder/sharpener, preferably dual disk (chinese ones have no toolrest, but can get one there easy, also home depot, there's a few varieties with rests but unsure any brands, B&D only sold an adapter chuck to a standard stone like china)
Jigsaw (hopefully monday buying one, medium rare, mine may have a brand visible, there's many brands for this inc B&D and euro vid below)
Quarter sheet sander (never seen one, but it surely should exist??)
Oscillating disk sander (never seen one online, may not exist)
Buffing wheel (either china or bulk set, original B&D, sold rn, difficult part is adapter chuck, can be diy'd)
Better drill lathe (old cast B&D preferably)
Router (never seen, may not exist)
Reciprocating saw (rare, but a few brands exist)
Band saw (medium rare, only seen on B&D, was sold new in 1987, plastic body, parts still replaceable 2024)
Original home utility line stand (likely as part of a bulk set buy)
Angle grinder (only seen in euro vid)
Scroll saw (only seen in euro vid)
Triangle pad corner sander (never seen)
Table Saw (may diy with circ saw, in euro vid)
6/19 on the list rn, 31.6%
References:
A bunch of rare tools here, only seen in this one euro video, no idea the brand, blue and silver, looks like bosch or old style ryobi, more research needed, may be able to google translate some search terms. Working timeframe is 1960-1980, may be soviet era, german flag on pfp, many soviet era tools had no branding and are hard to track or source, esp with sanctions. Could try other ex eastern block countries ebay pages? According to comments it came as a giant set and only works with that specific drill

Dividing a Plaything

A gift to my two lovely friends, @bacterialheaven & @anti-interesting
With the holidays coming up, the train station was more crowded than it usually was. You didn’t mind hearing the loud and continuous chatter of the people around you, it made you feel less lonely and more included as you waited for the arrival of the train your boyfriend’s brother had taken.
Your boyfriend, Todo had invited his brother over to his place for a simple dinner where the two of you would be meeting for the first time. You couldn’t hide your excitement because Todo spoke highly of his brother, telling you how they spent years of their life and endured so many hardships together.
Todo had been having a rough time at work and seeing a familiar face could cheer him up. He didn’t have anyone other than you and his brother after all. He needed to be with people he treasured.
You had only recently moved in with him after a year of dating because his line of work prevented him from visiting you. Although you were fine with seeing him once in a while whenever he wasn’t busy, he wanted to spend every second of his life with you.
He had convinced you rather easily, telling you about how a woman your age shouldn’t live alone in the city. He told you how your life would be easier if the two of you lived together, shared a bed together, enjoyed meals together, bathed together, and of course, paid the bills together.
In the end, he was right, life was easier when you were together. You liked how much you could trust him and how protective he was when it came to you. When the two of you first met, it had been at a rescheduled Takada-chan concert when the previous one was canceled due to heavy rain. You had gone to the show after winning a ticket in a giveaway and halfway through the concert found yourself being harassed by some creep.
It was then, you heard a clap that was louder than any other clap at the concert and found yourself on the other side of the show. Dumbfounded, your eyes had scouted the entire room to see a muscular-built guy drag the creep who had been harassing you out.
You followed them out, thank this mysterious guy, and asked him if you could show your gratitude by buying him some Takada-chan merchandise.
The rest? History.
“Tokyo Train C arriving at Kyoto B.”
Quickly getting up from your seat, you headed towards the gate Todo’s brother would be arriving from.
You didn’t know what Yuuji looked like but Todo had told you that his brother knew exactly what you looked like from the pictures he would send him. Somehow, you could guess Yuuji’s appearance. Since he was Todo’s younger brother, he probably looked like a copy of him, perhaps shorter and had a smaller build and-
“Ah.” Some pink-haired guy stood in front of you. “You’re Todo’s girlfriend, right?”
There was a moment of silence as you stared up and down at him. “Yuuji Todo?”
He looked nothing like your Todo.
“Nuh-uh,” he chuckled. “It’s Yuuji Itadori.”
Again, silence.
“You’re not his brother?” you hesitantly asked.
“No,” he said, looking at you with the same confused expression that was plastered on your face. “Did he tell you I was his brother?”
“Yeah,” you sighed, shaking your head slightly with a blush. “I’m sorry about the-”
“Oh, don’t worry, he’s like a brother to me anyway. He introduces me as his brother to everyone.” Yuuji offered you a gorgeous smile before reaching his hand out to you. “Let’s take it from the beginning.”
You took his hand and mirrored his smile. “I’m (name), Aoi’s girlfriend.”
“Yuuji Itadori, Todo’s brother.” A chuckle.
The two of you shared a laugh and continued shaking hands but it didn’t feel awkward. His grip on your hand was gentle and soft, you didn’t even notice his thumb caressing your skin.
“I hope you’re hungry,” you said, finally retrieving your hand and turning around on your heels to lead the way.
“You can’t imagine, I’m so tired too.” Yuuji stretched his arms over his head as he matched your steps.
Only then you noticed the huge backpack he had with him. Todo had told you that Yuuji was only coming over for dinner and hopefully that was true. Nevertheless, you regretted not cleaning the place more thoroughly.
~~~
As soon as you opened the door to your apartment and stepped inside, Todo appeared out of nowhere to greet you. A quick kiss on your forehead and then walking past you, he grabbed Yuuji’s hand with a loud clap. The two of them hugged and were busy talking while you made your way to the kitchen to lift the aluminum foil you had put over the dishes to keep them warm.
“Aaah, Fushiguro got a girlfriend? That speechless guy too? I guess it’s only you left now.” Todo was practically yelling when he walked inside the living room. “I heard Mechamaru, no, Kokichi got a girl too.”
“Woah, I wonder how he managed to get a girlfriend.” Yuuji sounded astonished.
“Um, dinner-”
“Probably one of those sorcerer dating websites.” Todo sat on the couch and redirected his attention towards the television.
“Wait, there are websites for that?” Yuuji plopped down onto the couch next to Todo, ignoring you as well. “Is that how you met, (name)?”
“Aoi?” Your meek voice went unheard.
“No, we met at a Takada-chan concert.”
“Takada-chan has fangirls too?” Yuuji snorted, “I didn’t know.”
“(name) had won a ticket through a giveaway, she wasn’t exactly a fan but she joins me whenever I go to Takada-chan’s shows or meet and greets.” Todo smiled to himself, he was such a lucky guy to have an amenable girlfriend like you.
“Does she even like Takada-chan?”
“Not one bit,” Todo replied. “But she likes me.”
Indeed you liked him, he was your hero after all. He had saved you from a creep and as your first-ever boyfriend, Todo was perfect.
He bought you clothes he knew you would like because he had seen Takada-chan wearing them in his favorite photoshoots and he took you everywhere with him. At Takada-chan concerts he kept you close, close enough to be able to hump you while watching Takada-chan and hide it from anyone else’s view.
You were happy to be with him and give him the affection he needed. Although at times he could make you flustered with the way he groped you in public when other guys looked at you, you knew it was just because he loved you so much. He simply couldn’t keep his hands to himself and he was possessive. That was all.
“Aoi.” You tried calling out to him again to no avail. You knew they weren’t going to hear your voice so you walked around the counter and into the living room. Putting your hand on Todo’s shoulder you cut his sentence midway through.
“Yes?” he asked, turning to look at you with a warm smile that never failed to make you flustered.
“D-dinner.”
The two of them had forgotten all about dinner but with your reminder, they got up from the couch to follow you into the kitchen.
Dinner was more than the same, Todo and Yuuji chatted while you listened.
“So what grade sorcerer are you, (name)?” Yuuji asked, reaching for a glass of water.
Both you and Todo looked at each other and laughed. “I’m not a sorcerer,” you said. “I’m just a civilian.”
“She can see curses though,” Todo elaborated.
“I thought you told him about this since you said you talk about me with him all the time.” You were giggling as you took a napkin to pat on your mouth.
“We never had the chance.” Todo put down his cutlery and grabbed his plate before leaving the table to get seconds.
“Yeah.”
“Then what sorta stuff did you guys talk about me?” you asked, still a joyful smile plastered on your lips.
The other two, on the other hand, stopped smiling. They looked at each other and Todo was the one to give you an answer.
“Just about how much I love you.” He was back on his seat and pressed a kiss on your forehead.
You blushed faintly, “You’re lying~”
The mood between the two guys changed after that.
After dinner, while you were rolling up the sleeves of your shirt to do the dishes, Yuuji offered to help. You rinsed the dishes and he placed them in the dishwasher until only the large bowls were left. You were planning to wash them by hand since they wouldn’t fit in the dishwasher.
“How did you and Aoi become such good friends?” you asked while he closed the dishwasher.
“We bonded over our love for the same type of women.” Leaning back on the counter, Yuuji watched you wash the rest of the dishes by hand.
“So, Takada-chan?” you chuckled.
“I wouldn’t say her specifically.” He was about to say something else when Todo draped an arm over his shoulder.
“Yuuji and I have the same taste in women.” Todo grinned, his eyes went in between you and Yuuji a couple of times before he said something that made both of you blush. “That’s why he’s probably attracted to you.”
“Aoi!”
“Todo!”
Both of you yelled at Todo in unison and your boyfriend pouted, raising a brow slowly. “I was just saying!”
Rolling your eyes, you returned your attention to washing the rest of the dishes.
“Oh, Yuuji is staying over so I came here to ask about the clean sheets, where did you put them?” Todo asked the thing you knew he would. You kind of wished he had told you Yuuji would be staying over the night a couple of days ago, the whole apartment was dirty.
“They’re inside the vacuum sealer bags under the bed,” you replied and quickly added. “Uhh, take the green ones though! The white ones are too thick for this time of the year.”
“Yeah, I figured!” Todo left Yuuji’s side and walked past you with a quick pat on your back, thanking you for the dinner.
“I’m sorry for crashing here,” Yuuji said suddenly.
You shook your head softly, “It’s not my house, and don’t apologize please, it makes me happy to see Aoi happy. He doesn’t have many friends.”
“He doesn’t?”
“I’ve been to his class reunions and his classmates weren’t quite fond of him.” You frowned at the thought of the unpleasant memories of Todo’s classmates treating him like he wasn’t there.
Yuuji hummed in thought, “I’d say they’re hard to get along with, they don’t like me either. Todo and I didn’t get along at first either, you can’t make friends with him unless you actually try to make friends with him.”
At that moment, you understood why Todo called Yuuji his brother. Their bond was stronger than blood.
Finally done with the dishes, you patted your hands dry and turned to face Yuuji completely.
“What’s Aoi’s type of woman?” You were hesitant about asking this, perhaps the description was the complete opposite of you. “What kind of woman does he like?”
“Tall women with big ass,” Yuuji didn’t hesitate to answer.
“Oh,” you forced out a chuckle. “I don’t think I exactly fit the description.”
“Maybe,” he said but then offered you a gentle smile. “But having a type doesn’t mean he’d only be attracted to those kinda women. I mean, you’re pretty and I’m sure you’re more than his type. I’d call you his perfect match, not many people can tolerate him you know.”
You were about to thank him for trying to consult you but Todo appeared between the two of you after a loud clap.
“Brother,” Todo sighed. “Isn’t it obvious? She’s the one for me.”
Blushing at the way your boyfriend emphasized the words, you jokingly hit him on the chest. “You’re too much.”
“Shall we go to the living room?” Todo suggested as he grabbed beers from the fridge. “It’s way too cramped in here.”
Nodding, Yuuji followed after Todo and walked past you but not without pressing himself against you. It could have been an accident but the pause was too long, his hand as he walked past you caressed your waist and back as well.
No, you were overreacting. You didn’t want to upset Todo. You were definitely overthinking this.
In the living room, the two of them were talking when you sat beside Todo. You tried joining their conversation whenever you managed to follow the topic but most of the time you were sitting quietly, leaning against your boyfriend while sipping on a beer.
It wasn’t long until you got a little too bored and excused yourself to bed.
After you left, silence fell in the living room for half an hour or longer. At least it was long enough for them to be sure you weren’t awake.
“She’s prettier than the pictures,” Yuuji said, chugging the last bit of his beer. “She’s also cuter than you described her to be.”
“You should see her when she’s talking about stuff she likes, she gets all excited and it’s adorable.” Todo reached for the remote control and turned the volume up enough to suppress their voices.
“Hmm, I’ll keep that in mind.” Yuuji put his empty beer bottle on the table.
Todo grabbed both of their beer bottles and went to the kitchen to get more beer. “So, what do you think, brother?” he asked after plopping down on the couch next to him.
Yuuji took the beer he was holding out to him and nodded languidly as if trying to consider his words. “She’s… she’s really my type.”
Todo clinked his beer bottle with his best friend’s and chuckled softly, “I told you we had the same taste in women.”
~~~
In the morning, you woke up earlier than your boyfriend and spent a longer time than usual trying to escape from his strong embrace. Eventually, you slipped out of his arms. Although if it was any other day, you would enjoy cuddling with him until it was all toasty in bed, you had a guest in your home.
Changing your clothes, you opened the door of your room as quietly as you could to make your way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. You tried peeking into the living room to see if Yuuji was still sleeping but the delicious smell of coffee gave you the answer.
You walked into the kitchen to find Yuuji cooking breakfast. He didn’t notice your presence continued rolling the omelet to make it thicker.
“G-good morning,” you said, wrapping your arms around yourself.
Yuuji whipped his head around and flashed you a gorgeous smile. “Good morning! Sorry, if I woke you up.”
“N-no.” You blushed faintly at the intensity of his stare. “I woke up myself.”
“Ah, I hope you don’t mind me using your kitchen. Todo said it was fine but-”
“I don’t mind it!” you said hurriedly, “I don’t wake up to prepared breakfast that often so I can’t complain.”
He returned his attention to the thick omelet and nodded. “Hopefully, my cooking will be to your liking then.”
“I’m sure it is!” You put your hands on the counter and jumped at the same time as you hoisted yourself up to sit on the counter. “Did you sleep well?”
“I did.”
There was a comfortable silence between the two of you after that. You quietly watched him cook, the way his biceps would tighten each time he shook the pan to fold the omelet and his focused eyes were hypnotizing.
He was glancing at you at times when he did something impressive, smiling. You found it a little weird but didn’t say anything regarding his behavior.
“Good morning!”
Todo entered the kitchen, yawning and with messy hair.
Both of you said it back.
He gave you a peck on the lips before grabbing a coffee mug. “What should we do tonight?”
You gave yourself a moment to think. Perhaps you could eat takeout today, it had been a while since you had a lazy night with Todo. Or perhaps drink wine and get in the tub together. You opened your mouth to give your answer but Yuuji spoke instead of you.
“I was thinking of eating beef and watching tonight’s football match.”
Todo smiled, humming happily as he took a sip from his coffee. “Sounds great.” Noticing your stare, he raised a brow. “You don’t want beef?”
You shook your head, not wanting to say anything while Yuuji was there but as expected of your considerate boyfriend, he leaned forward so you could whisper in his ear.
Hesitantly you spoke. “I thought Itadori was only staying the night.”
“Oh, no. Brother is staying over for the whole week. We’re gonna investigate a curse together.”
Your eyes widened, he hadn’t mentioned anything about this to you. However, you could never say anything against it.
~~~
“This one’s my favorite,” Todo said, showing a picture of you to Yuuji. “She’s wearing Takada-chan’s limited edition dress here.”
“Yeah, you sent this to me a long time ago.” In the picture, you were hiking the skirt of the dress up to reveal your bare thighs and pussy with a blushed face.
“Did I?” Todo stared at his phone and smiled at the picture dreamily. “I send so many pictures of her to you that I sometimes forget which ones I haven’t sent yet.”
“Well, I don’t mind receiving them twice.” Yuuji took out his phone to check his own photo gallery. He scrolled down to the album folders and opened the hidden file. He was greeted by a ton of pictures of you, mostly taken by yourself. Each one of them you were awkwardly posing to show off your naked body. In some pictures you had lingerie but those weren’t quite his favorite.
“Look.” Todo pointed at his own phone. On the screen, there was another picture of you. In the picture, you were on top of your boyfriend, it was possibly taken mid-sex. Your bare chest was illuminated by the flash of the camera and your eyes were closed as you were balancing yourself on your hands that were resting on Todo’s stomach, you looked lost in pleasure.
“I don’t have that one.” Yuuji immediately could tell he hadn’t gotten this specific picture.
“Ah, I’ll send it to you.”
~~~
“She likes it when you…”
~~~
“Oh, her weak point is…”
~~~
“You know,” Todo started, wrapping his arms around you once you changed out of your work clothes and into a Takada-chan merch shirt. “I think Yuuji likes you.”
The guy mentioned was running a last-minute errand downtown, the two of you were alone in your room.
You let out an awkward laugh and leaned back on his chest. “Well, I like him too since he’s your closest friend.”
“I didn’t mean it that way,” he whispered into your ear, lips brushing against the skin.
“W-what?” You turned your head away from his lips but he leaned down to kiss your neck, not letting you escape.
“I told you we have the same taste in women. He definitely is attracted to you, I can tell.” He pressed his lips on your pulse point, giving you enticing kisses.
You couldn’t hear his words, too focused on his lips instead.
Smiling into your skin, Todo slid his hands up your sides to cup your tits over your shirt. He gave them an encouraging squeeze and you immediately arched into his touch, pressing your ass onto him. “I think you’re attracted to him too, hmm?”
You didn’t answer.
“(name),” he uttered oh so softly before lolling his tongue out of his mouth to drag the wet muscle up from your neck to your jaw. He pressed his lips on the shell of your ear, his hot breath hitting on your skin. “You like Yuuji.”
“Yes.” You could feel him grow larger behind you, he was in the mood.
When you finally gave him the response he had been waiting for, Todo lifted you up to carry you towards the end of the bed.
A moan escaped your lips when he pushed you face down onto the mattress and pulled your shorts down along with your panties.
“You’re so cute, you know that?” He pushed two fingers inside of you, with how wet you were, his thick digits easily went inside. Twirling them around, he smiled to himself as he pulled them back to thrust inside softly, dragging the pads on his fingers in a specific way to drive you crazy.
Clutching on the bedsheets, you lifted your ass up, begging for more. “Aoi…”
“What is it?” He could tease you all day.
Wiggling your hips, you groaned in frustration while he continued moving his fingers agonizingly slowly inside your wet pussy.
“Use your words.”
You flushed, “I want you.”
“You want what?” He added another finger to the mix, thrusting inside sluggishly despite how wildly your walls were pulsating around his digits. It took him a great among of self-restraint to not pounce on you right now, fucking you frenziedly to feel your insides throb like that around him.
“I want your…” Ah, so embarrassing. “I want your dick.”
Luckily, Todo was more than willing to provide.
He pulled down the front of his pants with one hand while continuing to move his fingers. When he finally pulled out his fingers and pressed the tip of his cock on your entrance you were mewling him to hurry up.
Snapping his hips forward, Todo gave you what you wanted. He was only halfway inside but you were already screaming into the mattress. You could never get used to his size. He was too big for you.
Todo proceeded to push his hips forward slowly until his entire length was inside your pussy. He stilled momentarily to let you get used to his size as usual before tentatively pulling his hips back to surge them forward in a sudden motion.
You moaned audibly, clutching the bedsheets tighter.
He pulled back and thrust in your pussy with a loud clap continuously, the pace didn’t falter once but it was the force of his thrusts that made your eyes tear up and punched the air out of your lungs.
Todo grabbed you by your hips to pull you towards his hips at the same time he was snapping them forward. Moaning at the sounds of your skins clapping on each other, he put his foot on the bed to put more strength behind his thrusts.
His balls were slapping against your skin harshly and he could go a lot deeper in this position. It wasn’t long until his cock throbbed because of your gummy walls clenching around him.
Pulling out of you, Todo flipped you over and held his cock over your face. “Open your mouth.”
Obediently you lifted yourself up from the bed using your elbows to take the tip of his cock inside your mouth.
Todo’s hand around his cock moved faster than your eyes could follow and when his cock started twitching he groaned softly. Soon after you felt him releasing his seed into your mouth.
You swallowed his cum and gently licked the tip to clean it.
“Can’t you try sucking it for once?” he asked sheepishly, eyes hazy with lust as he was looking down at you.
“It’s too big.” Was your reply. It was mostly, you weren’t confident enough to take his cock in your mouth but it wasn’t impossible.
“Won’t you try it?” He placed his hand on your cheek, thumb caressing the skin.
How could you say no to that…
You were about to get in a comfortable position when the doorbell chimed, making both of you jolt.
Yuuji was back.
“Brother,” he sighed, shaking his head disapprovingly, “Why did you have to arrive just as things were getting good?”
“We’ll do it once he leaves Kyoto,” you said, smiling. “I promise.”
Todo smiled down at you and leaned down to kiss you. “You better keep your promise.”
The moment he kissed you, the doorbell chimed once again but this time repeatedly. Giving you a small peck on your lips, Todo tucked himself back in his pants as he walked out of the bedroom to open the door for Yuuji.
You joined them only after you managed to catch your breath.
The dinner was uneventful, the boys cooked the beef and you made some garnish.
After dinner, you prepared some snacks for them to watch during the football match and although you were planning to go take a bath to leave them alone, Todo insisted that you stayed.
That was how you ended up on the couch, staring at the television with a blank expression. You didn’t understand much from the football match they were watching but it didn’t stop you from settling to Todo’s side with his arm over your shoulder.
Feeling his warmth was enough to lull you to sleep if it wasn’t for the narrator’s mundane voices or Yuuji’s excited voice explaining Todo about the opposite team’s players and some other stuff you couldn’t keep up. As your eyelids got heavier and it was impossible to keep them open anymore, you felt your boyfriend’s hand going inside the front of your shirt to cup your tit.
Your eyes immediately snapped open as you jolted awake, eyes wide and in panic.
Todo glanced down at you momentarily with a smirk before returning his attention to Yuuji who was still busy explaining to him about one of the goalkeepers. You gasped and wanted to tell him that his friend was going to see what he was doing but he shut you up once he gave your tit a generous squeeze.
Flushing, you covered your face with a hand, hoping that the guy next to your boyfriend wouldn’t see you like this.
“I’m gonna grab another beer,” Yuuji said, getting up from the couch. “You guys want anything-” His eyes landed on your blushing face and then to the large hand that was groping your tit under the shirt. His own cheeks flushed slightly as he averted his gaze.
“I don’t need anything,” Todo said, the smile in his voice was noticeable. “Do you want anything, (name)?”
You shook your head slowly, you were getting dizzy from embarrassment and also from excitement of being seen like this by Yuuji.
Yuuji nodded and went to the kitchen to grab a beer for himself. When he came back he continued his explanation about the opposite team to Todo, ignoring your mewls and gasps whenever your boyfriend rolled your nipple between his knuckles or pinched them.
Todo pulled his hand away only after the football match had ended, by that time you were a total mess.
“We should go to bed,” Todo said, lifting you up. “(name) doesn’t feel well.”
Yuuji didn’t comment on anything as Todo carried you back to your room, wishing his friend goodnight.
In the bedroom, Todo didn’t waste any seconds to strip you out of your clothes, the excitement of knowing that his friend could be jerking off in the living room was enough to make him cum in his pants but he held back.
“You’re the worst,” you whimpered but it broke into a moan when he took your sensitive nipple in his mouth. Wrapping your arms around his head, you pulled him towards yourself, wanting more. “I hate you.”
He bit your nipple, making you writhe in pain. “Do you mean that?” he asked as he pulled himself away from you.
“Nooo~” you whined. “I love you.”
“You must love Yuuji too,” he said, pushing his fingers inside your pussy. “You’ve gotten so wet. It was because he was watching, right?”
“I don’t know.” You wanted to deny it but he was telling the truth, he had to be. Todo knew you the best, better than you knew yourself. “M-maybe.”
The strings that were holding Todo back snapped one by one. "You were being so loud, you might as well have just gotten on your knees and begged for his attention. You should've moaned his name and begged him to fuck you like a whore on that couch."
“Don’t say that!”
“It’s the truth, isn’t it?” He pulled his pants down and flipped you over to your stomach to shove his entire length inside you impatiently. “Be more honest, will you?”
You shamelessly moaned out loud, arching your back.
“You want Yuuji to fuck you like this, don’t you?” He snapped his hips forward punching the air out of your lungs.
This time without any hesitation. “Yes!”
~~~
“Why don’t you fuck her already?” Sukuna scoffed. “She was sitting there like a bitch in heat, begging to be fucked.”
“Stop talking vulgarly about her like that,” Yuuji pulled his pants down, ignoring Sukuna and focusing on your loud moans instead.
“You should be a man and show her that you want her.” Sukuna wouldn’t shut up though.
Yuuji spat in his palm and wrapped his hand around his cock, “Be quiet, will you?”
“You want her to be yours right?”
It became silent for a moment. The only sounds were your moans mixed up with skin clapping on skin coming from the other room.
“If you don’t act dominant, you’ll never get to have a woman for yourself. Do you always wanna have someone else’s seconds?”
Satisfied the way he got to him, Sukuna disappeared from Yuuji’s cheek, leaving the latter all alone with his thoughts.
~~
Todo was coming home late today. Meaning that you were alone with Yuuji for the time being.
You were cooking dinner for the two of you while he was in the living room watching television
Since this morning, you had been unable to look him in the eye. Things that happened yesterday wouldn’t leave your mind for a mere moment, you were embarrassed and ashamed but Yuuji seemed indifferent.
Perhaps these sorts of stuff were normal between guy friends. You didn’t know. Todo was your first boyfriend ever and this was the first time you were meeting one of his closest friends.
It could be.
“Do you need help with anything?”
You jolted in surprise and glanced over your shoulder towards him. “Um, no but thank you!”
“Hmm, okay.” Yuuji leaned back on the counter, watching you intently instead of going back to the living room.
Although you returned your attention to the food you were cooking, you could sense his stare on your body. His stare was intense, whether it was your sixth sense or not, you could tell exactly where he might be looking at your body from the way your muscles stiffened.
You didn’t want to say anything, freaking out that it might upset Todo if you confronted Yuuji. What if you became that ‘crazy girlfriend’ for Todo and he broke up with you just because you were acting like a prude?
Ignore his staring. That was all you had to do. As long as you kept your distance, you would be fine.
Argh! Last night was too much, you were going insane. This was all Todo’s fault and-
“You’re wearing something that’s similar to Takada-chan’s outfit right?” he suddenly asked.
“Y-yeah.” Oh, as always you were being paranoid for nothing. He was just staring at your dress. “Todo likes it when I wear them because-”
“And he probably only fucks you from behind.”
You dropped the spoon you were holding but Yuuji continued.
“Bull’s eye, huh?” He had a blank expression on his face. “He’s probably imagining Takada-chan since from the back he can’t see your face. Only the flashy pink and red clothes. And I can bet he makes you do your hair like hers too, I guess it looks good from the back as well.”
Dead silence filled the kitchen, you didn’t dare to lean down to pick up the spoon or turn off the stoves.
“But I guess you know about all that,” Yuuji sighed, taking a step forward towards you. “You want him to love you no matter what. Even if it means he’ll fantasize about some idol.” He took another step, you mirrored his movements and took a step back. “You’re pathetically in love with him.”
“Stop,” you pleaded, covering your ears like a kid. “Stop it!”
Yuuji turned off the stoves and gently grabbed your wrists to pull them down. “It’s not a bad thing,” he said. “Loving someone to the point you devote your entire presence to them, it’s admirable.” His eyes had this gentle look in them and you could feel the empathy through them. He had been in this position before. He knew your pain. “You love him even though he uses you for his own fantasies but Todo loves you too. I know he does because I’ve fallen in love with you too.”
Fall for it.
Your eyes teared up, lower lip trembling. “I can’t… We can’t-”
Fall for the bait.
“Todo and I have the same taste in women. He wants us to get along.”
“This isn’t how two friends get along…”
Yuuji pulled you closer to himself looking deep into your eyes. “Todo told me it was okay. He said he wanted to share you with me. He wants someone to love you as much as you love him, so won’t you let me?”
You were trembling in front of him, your glossy eyes and pouting lips were too much for him.
“Itadori-”
“Yuuji,” he said, lifting his hand to caress your cheek hesitantly. “Call me Yuuji.”
“Y-Yuuji.” You tested out his name, smiling sheepishly when he pressed his forehead against yours.
“(name),” he whispered, impatient of all this waiting because he had been yearning to have you for himself for so long. So long. “Won’t you let me kiss you already? I won’t think about anyone else, I will kiss you .”
You couldn’t say anything, your hands went to clutch on his shirt and you nodded falteringly.
He leaned down, closing the distance between your faces until his lips met yours. There were butterflies in your stomach, your heart fluttered in joy, and for the first time ever, even though he had closed his eyes, you knew Yuuji wasn’t thinking of someone else while kissing you.
His lips moved against yours experimentally, testing the waters to see what you liked. He caressed your cheek using one hand and used his other hand to press on the small of your back to bring you closer to him.
You moaned into the kiss and parted your lips.
Just as Todo said you would.
Yuuji was hungrily kissing you, pushing his tongue into your mouth to twirl it around yours and savor your taste. He softly caressed your cheek with his thumb as he moaned encouragingly to get you to kiss him back with the same enthusiasm.
However, you were too timid, barely moving your lips or kissing him back. He slid his hand from the small of your back to under the skirt of your dress to grope the supple flesh of your ass hard enough to make you moan into the kiss again.
This time you opened your mouth fully, shyly letting your tongue move with his as your grip on his shirt tightened.
Smiling into the kiss, Yuuji lifted you up with the same hand that was groping your ass and you instinctively wrapped your arms around his neck as he carried you to the living room.
The way he was holding you so tightly even when he sat on the couch with you on his lap, it was all so tender. He was holding you like you meant the world to him, fragile yet passionate.
Yuuji was feeling this way about you. Only you. Nobody else.
Your heart fluttered but your chest clenched as you hungrily kissed him back. You tasted your tears in the kiss, how pathetic. All that just from him telling you he loved you? Pathetic. Pathetic. You were so pathetic. You wondered if he found how desperately you wanted to feel loved pathetic too.
He didn’t seem to overthink like you, his hands were on your hips, pressing you against his growing bulge and kissing you with the same eagerness you kissed Todo with.
Todo.
Something within your mind revived itself, you pulled back from the kiss while more tears spilled down to your cheeks. Your hands were on his chest as you pushed yourself away from him. “No, I can’t do this. I love Todo.”
Todo?
Wasn’t he Aoi to you?
“Todo said you loved me too.” One of his hands went under your skirt and he pressed his fingers against your clothed cunt. You had completely soaked your panties and were still trying to deny the fact that you didn’t want this.
Adorable.
You whimpered when he drew a tight circle over your clothed nub. “Yuuji, please.”
“Please what?” he raised a brow, face inanimate. “Do you really want me to stop? It’s just the two of us in here, you can be honest with me.”
A blush colored your cheeks and you looked away from him instead of giving him an answer.
He took it as a yes.
Pulling your panties to the side, he let two of his digits slide inside your slick heat. Moaning at the sensation, you covered your mouth in shame, eyes finally returning to Yuuji.
He flashed you a stunning smile. “You’re gorgeous.”
You covered your face with a hand, embarrassed out of your mind as he curled his fingers inside of you, rubbing the pad of his fingers on a sensitive spot he knew about. Your hips bucked against his hand and you whined in surprise.
Only Todo could make you feel this good. Right?
What if you stopped loving Todo because Yuuji made you feel good like him?
An enormous wave of panic washed over you.
“I-I-I changed my mind.”
“Did you?” Yuuji abruptly used the strength of his entire arm to finger fuck you.
Your mouth opened in a silent scream, both hands pressing on Yuuji’s shoulders to balance yourself as he was messing you up. “Yuuji, no!”
It was too late, you could feel the incoming wave of pleasure, your pussy was sucking his fingers deeper inside and clenching around them greedily. You were begging for something bigger and thicker.
Yuuji continued thrusting his fingers inside your cunt and started rubbing his palm against your clit for extra friction for you.
You were getting closer, the overwhelming wave of pleasure was growing bigger, threatening to leave you trembling and whimpering once he was done with you.
Then the familiar sound of a door being unlocked echoed inside the apartment.
The feeling of shame and guilt returned but you didn’t get to push yourself away from Yuuji.
“Stop,” you begged in tears, whimpering. However, your whimper soon turned into a shameless moan when you felt a tongue take a skillful lick against your folds before taking your clit in its mouth.
You looked down at Yuuji and he looked right back at you.
Your eyes landed on the hand that was fucking you. There was something, lapping at your cunt. It was a tongue. You could feel it zealously licking you.
Yuuji didn’t look aware of anything, his fingers moved all the same but what made you break down and lose the strength of your legs was the mouth embedded on his palm.
You met eyes with Todo who had just walked into the living room as your entire body shook uncontrollably and the heavenly euphoric feeling took over your senses. It was impossible to tear your eyes away from him, the sense of guilt was forgotten, you were pretending it was Todo who made you cum, not Yuuji or that thing in his hand.
Yuuji pulled his hand back and you actually caught a glimpse of a grinning mouth slowly disappearing into his skin.
No this wasn’t the time. Todo had… he had seen you like this. He was going to misunderstand.
“Aoi,” you whispered, trying to regain your strength to stand up on your legs. “Aoi, this is-” You nearly fell off from the couch but Yuuji caught you. In tears, you pushed him away and stood up, walking over to your boyfriend. “Aoi, I’m sorry he… he was the one-”
"I knew you liked Yuuji, but I didn't think you'd be this needy for him…” Todo slapped a hand on his face and dragged it down slowly, hiding his grin but keeping a serious expression. “What kind of girl are you really? You came on his fingers as soon as I walked in. Do you like being watched, is that it? Do you like messing with guys who aren't your boyfriend?”
“No!” you sobbed, hands desperately reaching out to hold his hand. “I love you, I only love you. H-he tried to use my love for you against me… It wasn’t my fault, I swear… Aoi, please, it wasn’t me. He kissed me first.”
“It wasn’t you?” Todo raised a brow, pulling his hand away. “Are you going to accuse my brother like that when you told me you loved him? DIdn’t you say you wanted to be fucked by him? You know me and Yuuji have the same type yet you still teased him with the clothes you wear around the apartment, and you let yourself get fondled in front of him mewling like a helpless kitten. What was he supposed to think?”
“I-I only love you, I swear!” You gripped onto his shirt. “Aoi, please, please, please!”
“You know our walls are thin but you still moaned and screamed all night knowing Yuuji was in the room next door." Todo’s brows furrowed, he pointed a finger at your face. "Wasn’t this what you wanted? You said you loved Yuuji, you said you wanted to be fucked by Yuuji and now you're mad because what? He kissed you?”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” Your face was stained with tears, crying helplessly, begging for forgiveness from your boyfriend.
“Don’t apologize to me,” Todo sighed. “You need to apologize to my best friend and find a way to make it up to him."
“It’s alright, Todo,” Yuuji said, appearing behind you. “She’s right, I went overboard. Maybe I should leave and stay at a hotel for the rest of the week. I don’t wanna be a burden or cause any problems between the two of you.”
If he left now, Todo was going to hate you. He was going to break up with you for accusing his best friend- weren’t you telling the truth- no! You were accusing him.
“No, please, Yuuji.” You turned your head towards him, begging him with teary eyes. “I’m so sorry. I’m sorry, please, it was all my fault. Please, I’m sorry.” Hysterically crying, you buried your face to Todo’s chest. “Please, please forgive me. Please!”
The two guys nodded at the same time and almost laughed at how your voice was breaking. Almost.
Todo put a hand on the back of your dress and pulled you away from him by gripping the fabric. “Well, I'm glad you could cry out somewhat of an apology but I told you to find a way to make it up to him."
"How am I supposed to-"
Todo abruptly leaned down, staring at you with an intimidatingly blank look on his face. “How would Takada-chan apologize?”
Your shoulders stiffened, your limbs turned to stone but you still were able to shake your head hesitantly.
“What?” Todo’s face had gotten closer. “You’re not sorry, Takada-chan? Is that what you’re trying to say?”
“Stop it,” you whimpered, fresh tears forming in your eyes. “I’m not Takada-chan.”
“Hey,” Yuuji said, putting a hand on his friend’s shoulder. “She said she’s sorry, I’m not hurt or anything. Don’t make her cry like that. I went overboard, I thought she liked me like you said so I should be the one to apologize.”
Todo’s features softened and he shook his head slightly as he turned to face his friend, “Ahh, I’m sorry too. It’s just that… I was sure you two would get along but she went and blew it up.”
“I’ll get along with him,” you promised, wiping your tears, smiling in despair. “Please, Aoi. I’ll even love Yuuji as much as I love you. Please. Just don’t… please don’t leave me.”
Todo let out an audible sigh, he looked distraught, shoulders shaking from what you thought was sadness but he was simply trying to hold back his laughter. “Prove it to me.”
You lifted your head, eyes wide. “Prove what? I’ll do anything you ask me to do-”
Cutting your sentence short, Todo reached out his hand to you and his other hand to his friend. Without hesitation, you put your hand in his and Yuuji did the same. Slowly, Todo brought his hands together and made the two of you hold hands. “Prove that you love Yuuji."
“I can’t let him have my body,” you said, voice breaking after getting an image of what he was implying. “My heart and body belong to you.”
“What about your mouth? My best friend likes the same things I like... and you can't make the same excuses with him that you do with me.”
Oh.
He perhaps knew the reason why you didn’t want to suck him off.
You were terrified of him looking at you, scared that he would dump you if he fucked you even once while looking at you. Although you wanted him to have eyes only for you, it wasn’t possible when his heart didn’t belong to you.
Maybe, only maybe… If both of you started being more honest with each other, you could be the person in his heart, sharing it with Yuuji rather than his favorite idol.
Todo placed a hand on your back and pushed you forward towards your bedroom. You knew what to do.
The walk to your room was awkward and silent. Yuuji’s hand was sweaty and calloused as you dragged him to the bedroom but your trembling hand fit perfectly in his hand. The two of you were a match made in heaven.
Todo followed you inside the bedroom, watched the two of you climb on the bed. You reached to the front of Yuuji’s sweats, pulling them down by hooking your fingers under the waistband.
You were so focused on your task that you hadn’t realized how badly you were shaking.
“(name),” Yuuji said softly, putting his hand over yours. “Do you remember what I said to you?”
You stared up at him for an answer.
“Todo wants someone to love you as much as you love him. Will you let me do that?” Despite your previous hysterical crying, you managed to blush at his words, the pressure on your shoulders disappeared and you got lost within his kind smile that was directed at you.
Nodding, you got on all fours while Yuuji leaned back on the mattress as you hooked a finger underneath the waistband of his boxers to peel them off to release his aching cock. Once his cock bounced free, you were distantly aware of the mattress dipping behind you.
It was Todo. After settling behind you, he hiked your skirt up and pulled your panties down.
“Focus on me,” a voice said, his warm hand lovingly caressed your cheek.
You looked at Yuuji through your clumped lashes, he was pumping his cock sluggishly while looking at you intently. All of his attention was on you, he wasn’t looking through you like Todo. He was looking at you. Only you.
In response, you leaned further down to take the tip of his cock in your mouth. He retrieved his hand from his cock and you wrapped your own hand around the base, moving it along the length with a nice firm pressure.
Bobbing your head, you took more than half of his cock in your mouth, hollowing your cheeks as you moved up and closer towards the pink tip.
“That feels good,” Yuuji groaned softly, he put a hand on the top of your head, petting it to praise you. “You’re amazing at this.”
His kind tone encouraged you to bob your head and you tried taking him deeper inside your mouth.
“Ahh, you’re so into this…” Yuuji grew harder inside of your mouth and pulled you towards him by your head, his hips bucking up in a desperate attempt to hit the back of your throat.
Behind you, Todo was dragging the tip of his cock between your folds, he was oddly quiet, possibly still upset but you still arched your back for him. You needed to prove to him how good you could make him feel. Only you could make him feel this good. Nobody else. He needed to know that.
Todo pushed the tip of his cock inside and surged his hips forward until his entire length was inside you with a low groan. You moaned around Yuuji’s cock, the vibrations coming from your throat were enough to make him grab a chunk of your hair to steady himself.
Suddenly Yuuji forced you down onto his cock until your nose was touching his pinkish pubes. With Yuuji being deep down in your throat and Todo’s cock completely stretching you out, you had thought you were being stuffed to your limit. It was all too much. You gagged and planted your hands on Yuuji’s thighs to push yourself away from his cock.
You didn’t get the chance though.
Clap.
Your jaw relaxed and your pussy clenched around nothing for barely a second but then abruptly you felt your jaw forcefully open wider around the cock in your mouth. Tearing up, you gagged roughly. The girth was thicker than before and you barely managed to blink when a large hand landed on top of your head to card his fingers through your hair.
“No teeth,” Todo warned.
Eyes widening, you stared up at your boyfriend through your lashes in panic as a pair of hands gripped your hips tightly.
“Ahh, you’re so tight,” Yuuji groaned, tentatively pulling his hips back to snap them forward.
They had switched places.
You were confused but it didn’t take you long to put the pieces together to realize it was Todo’s whatever sorcery was the cause of this.
Glaring up at Todo, you attempted to move your hips away from Yuuji but they both had you trapped between them.
Without a warning, your boyfriend started bucking his hips up into your mouth. As upset as you were, there was no way you were going to let this one slip. There was no possible way.-
“You look cuter than Takada-chan like this,” Todo whispered with a gentle smile on his lips. He was telling the truth, having your luscious lips wrapped around his cock with your tear-stained face and furrowed brows that were looking at him with anger… it was purely erotic. “Can you keep your promise for me?”
Your heart fluttered with joy, anger past forgotten, you bobbed your head. Todo hissed through his teeth, letting you move however you pleased.
Yuuji on the other hand was losing more of his composure every passing second. His hands that were gripping your sides were shaking as he decided to move again. Your walls were clamping on his cock, threatening to milk him dry each time he pulled out and thrust inside your pulsating cunt.
As he was trying to find a rhythm he liked, his instincts took over. Yuuji snapped his hips forward, balls slapping against your skin with a loud clap. His pace was irregular yet merciless. Incredibly vigorous, each thrust deep and penetrating. He let out a growl as your tight walls clenched around him after your boyfriend’s cock grazed the back of your throat.
Yuuji’s nails dug into your skin and he started fucking you almost frantically. With each snap of his hips, you took more of Todo’s cock down your throat. Tears streamed down your cheeks but pleasuring your boyfriend was more important. The pain was nothing compared to keeping your promise to Todo.
“Good girl,” he praised, wiping your tears with his thumbs, “My girl.”
Your pussy clenched at his words, making Yuuji lose himself completely at the sensation. He slammed into your cunt with amazing vigor, forcing you to take the entire length of Todo’s cock in your mouth as the tip of his cock pressed against your cervix at the same time your nose brushed against Todo’s pubes.
Both of the guys moaned while your eyes rolled back to the back of your head. You were getting completely lost in the sweet ecstasy of Yuuji’s cock ravishing your pussy and Todo’s cock was stretching your throat simultaneously.
They were both about to cum.
You felt Yuuji’s cock twitch inside of you as Todo held his hands up and waited before slowly clapping them together.
Clap!
Your jaw relaxed once again but then your walls stretched to the point of your legs giving up under you. Yuuji took Todo’s place in your mouth and came down your throat with an audible grumble. He pulled out rather quickly, letting you take a breath to swallow his cum down.
Todo slouched forward to mount you completely and grunted into your ear as he picked up from where his best friend left. He reached one of his hands under you to toy with your clit, drawing tight circles around the nub. He snapped his hips forward, nosing some of your hair out of the way to grunt into your ear. “You’re enjoying this more than I thought. I think I know why... I think you like being shared, don’t you?"
“Yes, yes, yes!” You nodded rapidly, screaming out his name.
“You love Yuuji and you love me.”
“Yes!”
“You like being shared.”
“I… I-I do!” You weren’t sure if you were saying all of these to satisfy him or you actually wanted them but it didn’t matter. You were ready to do anything and everything to keep Todo happy.
He couldn’t hold back any longer, his cock throbbed, thick spurts of his cum filled your womb and overflowed into your pussy.
Breathless, you desperately held onto Yuuji’s thighs as Todo continued fucking his cum deep inside of you. “Why’d you switch?” Yuuji asked almost like a kid that was about to throw a tantrum.
“I can’t let you cum inside her, she’s still my girl at the end of the day.” Todo’s voice was mischievous, the grin in his voice was also present.
“I was gonna pull out,” he protested.
“I’ll let you do it next time if she’s up to it.” Todo pulled out and retrieved his hands from your hips. As soon as the only thing holding you up disappeared, your body went limp like a ragdoll on the mattress. “What do you say, (name)?”
His cum oozed out from your gaping hole and onto the sheets. You opened your mouth to stutter a single word Todo wanted to hear, “O-okay.”
mafia rewrite - The Nightwing
Richard Grayson walks out of the thick, steel, mirrored elevator doors straight past the shining, gleaming, modern, glass and chrome waiting area and straight into the heart of the cool, elegant Iceberg Lounge.
The Iceberg Lounge has been host to ambassadors, vandals, thieves, presidents, models, princes, billionaires, genius savants, call girls, bus boys, and every single person in between. The Iceberg Lounge has seen catastrophe, it’s seen ruin, it’s seen blood and murder, it’s seen parties that, from street level made the glass walled lounge look like a shining beacon of pure white. The Iceberg Lounge has had many names, many renovations, many changes of management, and withstood them all with a timeless grace.
The Iceberg Lounge, currently, plays host to a — compared to its normal volume — small and subdued crowd. Murmurs of death, blood, change, and escape carry over martini glasses, underneath swirling kinetic aluminum and steel light fixtures, slithering and insidious into the ears of every single moving body present. All of them, in their gossip, complicit.
Richard Grayson cuts the crowd and cuts a terrific — in the oldest sense of the word — figure. His suit is the black of Gotham, the black of its royal Wayne blood. The black of omens and death and the distant winter sky come to bear down on the trailing ends of summer as it runs in the opposite direction.
He’s always been known as the least violent Wayne. But least violent does not mean non-violent. Not when the comparisons are the rest of the Waynes.
A nurse shark is still a shark, even if you compare it to a megaladon. A butterfly knife is still a blade even, when compared to a zweihandler. Carbon monoxide is still a poison, even when compared to cyanide.
A bullet is a bullet no matter what kind of name you give it.
This one’s name is the Nightwing.
Even as a boy, he flittered and floated and glided through crowds like this. A strange figure in the gowns and tuxedos of Gotham’s socialites, and university night club crawlers, and the booming and bustling pub crawlers down narrow sidewalks with sports bars and dives.
A man made to fly through the night.
Richard Grayson glides into the Iceberg Lounge. Orca, seal, predator. And through schools of silver and gold glimmering fish that part as though they had suddenly turned hydrophobic he is untouched. Unmoved.
He keeps walking.
He walks up the spiral staircase to the VIP lounges. He walks towards the edge of the platform that overlooks the rest of the lounge. He walks up to a table set for one and he sits across the other occupant.
As he sits a chair materializes for him before he could fall. As though the universe and gravity had joined hands and conspired. As if the world could not conceive of a place where Richard Grayson does not get a seat at the table. As if this dimension could not fathom the golden son of Gotham being disappointed.
Or, more realistically, as though a panicked attendant realized that blood could be spilled tonight if even one thing fell out of place and quickly kicked a chair into motion, into another attendant’s body and that other attendant, carrying the same fear as the first, hustled to have the chair in position and ready to slide it in as Richard Grayson’s body entered its sure and unbothered controlled fall.
Richard Grayson unbuttons his suit jacket as he sits in this seat provided by fear, long legs crossing as he looks around the lounge. And then he does a slow, quiet, dangerous scan of the person in front of him.
He gestures around them with a lazy twist of his wrist.
“Ten million.” His beatific smile spreads like a plume of blood in water. He waits. The best predators know how to do this.
Eric Shin closes his eyes and breathes what could possibly be one of his last breaths and opens them again. Richard Grayson is waiting for his response.
“What?” He croaks out instead.
“That’s how much it cost to buy you,” Richard Grayson says. “Ten million. For someone from your circuit of the market? Entry to the VIP are of the Iceberg is at least five million per quarter. Minimum. Trust me. I know how much it costs to get into these kind of places. And you haven’t earned VIP seating. The Lucky Hand is lucky to barely be alive right now. Remind me, by who’s grace?”
“Yours,” Eric whispers against his will. The word slides out like bubbles from a drowning man.
“Exactly right. And when was that?”
Eric closes his eyes, and prays for a swifter death than this one of small cuts. “Seven years ago.” He swallows, throat dry, eyes stinging. “When the Dubelz ran across the Whispers on their hunt for the man who killed their leader and the violence spilled over onto into a war along the entire Port Adams and started getting the Lucky Hand’s shipments sunk in harbor as collateral.”
“Right, right. Excellent memory, Eric. Excellent memory. So. Where was I? Ah. Five million per quarter, which the Hand hasn’t been pulling in for you of all people to be getting into the VIP Iceberg Lounge. So it’s not coming from that business. The car is new. Imported, based on the interior and the relatively new plates. That’s about seven hundred just to bring over. And I know that thing isn’t going to be meeting US standards of emissions so that’s — let’s lowball it, say two grand? Three grand? To get enough people to rubber stamp those forms. Now, I’m not too hot on the numbers. So let’s make this easy. I’m going to place your car, fees and bribes and all, somewhere in the range of three hundred grand.”
Grayson taps his middle and index finger on the white cloth covered table as he watches Eric with bright, terrible eyes.
“And if I’m right that’s about — well. Still a lot more than you’d be worth normally. But you’re being paid for silence. And you’re being paid for dying.” Richard Grayson’s mouth twitches up at the corners. “You sold your life for ten, Eric. So far you’ve got VIP entrance to the lounge — which, mind you, isn’t going to last and isn’t refundable. The Penguin’s got a nose for business and he knows that you having entry to his lounge is just going to be earning him a whole lot of grief —, you’ve got a nice imported car that ignores US regulations, and let’s see. Let’s have a look at you. That’s tailored. You’re not buying that off the rack and that takes out everything under five hundred. At a glance I’d say that’s eight thousand. And the watch? A Submariner? Can’t get that in store unless you’ve got a name like mine. You’re looking black market and if you’re smart you’re paying extra for paperwork and someone to scrub it. Base price alone for the green dial is twenty grand. You’ve been burning through that blood money.”
“What do you want?” Eric asks.
Grayson leans forward, leopard seal and killer whale, and descending fury.
“You’re a smart man. The Waynes interfered to spare the Hand because you made a very good case for why we should. And for the past seven years we’ve been good neighbors. We’ve never had a problem with you. Until today. One hell of a problem to choose to be, Eric. I want you to tell me who paid you ten million dollars to give up your life and keep your silence. Because we traced the guns used at the shootout. And those guns and those cars came through Port Adams. And we traced records of those cars and plates and found them cruising up the Old Highway. And if they’re going up Old Highway and if they’re being supplied through Port Adams there’s no way in hell that the Lucky Hand didn’t see that coming.”
Grayson’s blue eyes burn with awful fire.
The Nightwing circles. The Nightwing descends.
“And you didn’t say anything. Someone paid you off. And how damn cheap of a pay off it was. Ten million? If I were in your position and being asked to keep my silence about any kind of whisper of a hallucination about Tim Drake being hunted like a dog through the streets of Gotham in broad daylight I would be asking for the keys to the diamond vaults. I’d be asking for the moon and the stars. Ten million.” The man leans back in his seat, face incredulous as he takes Eric in. “That’s all you were worth. I mean. Sure. I wouldn’t have paid you ten million to tell me this information before hand if I knew about it. But you’d still be alive, you know?”
Grayson flags a waiter over.
“You must have realized,” Grayson says as he peruses the liquor menu, “That regardless of whether Tim lived or died, someone would have found you.”
Eric doesn’t cry. He signed his death certificate weeks ago when he watched those first ships start to unload their guns into the storage facilities next to his own; when he took the money; when he failed to call any of the Waynes to say something, anything, over the past days when the plot came to its finalization.
“He’s alive, by the way. In case you were wondering.” Grayson raises his voice a little so it projects over the dead silence of the lounge. “My brother’s faced worse before. He’s alive. And you know that egghead remembers every single face that was present. License plates, too. Kid’s messed up, his priorities are all wrong. If it were me I’d be focused on wondering something more simple, you know? Like who I last talked to and if I said anything cool. Well. That’s why he’s head of W.E. and not me. I don’t have a head for business.”
He taps something on the liquor menu, handing it back to the waiter.
“Out of consideration for the past years of you being a good neighbor, I’ll let you have one last drink,” Grayson says. “My treat, seeing as how the Penguin is revoking all your access. Don’t worry. You’re not dead yet. I’ll be needing you later. You haven’t given me any names yet. And I promised Cobblepot I wouldn’t make a mess of his lounge. He just got this floor redone, you know? I missed the grand re-opening.”
Grayson looks around, smiling and nodding his divine approval.
“Personally, I think it’s a little too minimalist modern, but compared to before I like it. It’s quiet. Easy on the eye. Excellent balance and color coordination, though. Spot on. I’d ask Cobblepot who his designer was except I don’t have anything I want to tear down and rebuild. I’m more in the mood for the tearing down, frankly. Now, if you’ll excuse me. I’ve got a list of people to get to before someone else does.”
Grayson pauses. “And by someone else I mean another Wayne. The rest of the people in this family have no respect. Between Jason and Cassandra there isn’t enough to around, you know? They ruin everything they get their hands on. Usually so no one else can use it. Mostly so that I don’t get to use it, really. So I’m in something of a race against the clock to get everything I want done tonight. Lucky you, you were near the top of the list. Alright. I’ll leave you to that final drink. And when you’re done with that drink you’re going to get into the car I’ll have the Penguin pull around for you. Before I leave is there anything you want to say?”
Eric swallows roughly, slowly moving his eyes to met Grayson’s. A dead man has nothing to fear of asking a last second boon from his executioner.
“In punishing me will you spare the Hand?”
Grayson looks momentarily surprised.
Eric gestures around them. “They bought me. Not the Hand. My silence. My trespass. My wrong. Not a single cent of the money has gone to the Lucky Hand. You can check the accounts. It’s all with me, still. Tell me now. Give me this one certainty. Will you spare the Hand, or have I doomed us all?”
Grayson considers him. And then he leans forward, all blue eyes and terrific face.
“Tell me,” He says softly, “Tell me why you accepted the pay off.”
“Because no matter who won to rule Gotham — the Waynes or the plotting syndicates — it wouldn’t matter for us,” Eric confesses. “The syndicates have a backer. And under this backer the Hand would never have made it. Stay silent and earn the Wayne’s wrath is to perish. To speak to you of this plot and be turned on by the plotters who surround the Hand’s territory on all sides is immediate suicide. If the plotters won this battle but lost the war we would perish. If I was silent and you lost the plotters would still remove the Hand from the playing field for whatever excuse they could find. In every situation the Lucky Hand would have to fold.”
Grayson closes his eyes, bringing up a hand to press at his temples. It obscures his face for one moment of relief on Eric’s part.
“I will not act on the Lucky Hand for this,” he finally says, drawing up, buttoning his suit jacket once more. “That’s my personal statement on the matter. But as you can guess, the Wayne family’s many arms are rarely in agreement. Pull a repeat of seven years ago. Convince us. For what it’s worth — I think you have a shot at it.”
XD84 build - what is this madness
I’m building up a new XD84 pro from KPRepublic. This is my 3rd build with this style of PCB, the 87% keyboard, but the first time building a pro model.
From a previous build, I had an unused aluminum case in black just sitting here, so I figured I’d build something around what I had... kind of like if you have 4 tires sitting in your yard, and one day you say to yourself “I might as well fill up the space between those tires with the rest of a car”, then start buying car parts from China. You know the story, it’s happened a million times.
So of course I want only the finest for my beautiful anodized case
There she is, all nice and pretty like a pony.
I start plugging these lovely SP-Star weirdo clone MX keyswitches into the PCB & plate. Testing fitment, making sure everything is all squished in before soldering in the switches.
Things are coming along quite nicely.
EXCEPT..
The PCB will not fit in the case.
See the Pro model of the XD84 now comes with this:
“Oh cool” you might say, “It’s an expansion port of some kind! Looks standard as hell. It’s probably to add an LED strip or something that would be useless in this case. Let’s see what it is”.
Now I am dumb, yes. This much can be proven scientifically. But I am not a bad googleman. I can Bing with the best of them. You can Duck Duck Go fuck yourself if you think otherwise. I could not, for the life of me, figure out what the fuck this huge connector was for.
There’s loads of awesome info out there for the older versions of this board, like this right here:
This new board is perfectly different than the old one. It’s much prettier for one, but there’s less expandability (probably a good thing as that seems pretty unnecessary given this form factor) and a way better onboard controller.
If you look on the XD84 Pro product page, there’s plenty of pictures and a decent English writeup of what’s what.
Here’s what the specifications are for the board
Parameter Specification 1\75% kit 2\Can support MX Switch 3\Compatible with KLE custom key 4\Supports TKG-TOOLS offline and TKG online flash 5\Standard ICSP interface 6\REVB and REVQE compatible expansion port 7\Support Underglow RGB PCB 8\Support Type C USB port
OK. Neato. What?
WTF is REVE and REVQE?
WTF is a standard ICSP interface?
Maybe this bulky POS connector is one of those things. Research time.
Start looking up REVQE (because why would I use the obviously inferior REVE???) - that leads me here.
Not a lot of help at first, then some helpful dude is like “
Pins F4-F7 land on expansion pin-out at the top of the board (cluster labeled P5). From top to bottom, they are F7,4,6,5.” Oh here, check out the schematics of this other, similar board
Now if you’re a dumb dumb like yours truly, you see that and your eyes go cross. Plus, that looks nothing like this 4 pin connector in any way, that’s lots of lines, this should be around 4 lines. More likely than not, this stupid port is not REVE or REVQE. Onward!
Let’s look up ICSP:
ICSP stands for In Circuit Serial Programming, which represents one of the several methods available for programming Arduino boards. Ordinarily, an Arduino bootloader program is used to program an Arduino board, but if the bootloader is missing or damaged, ICSP can be used instead. ICSP can be used to restore a missing or damaged bootloader.
A typical Arduino ICSP header has six pins, arranged 2x3. The article Connecting the Programmer: In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) at Sparkfun describes some of the functions of ICSP pins, which include MISO, MOSI, SCK, V+, Ground, and Reset.
Each ICSP pin usually is cross-connected to another Arduino pin with the same name or function. For example, MISO on an Uno or Nano's ICSP header is connected to MISO / digital pin 12; MOSI on the ISCP header is connected to MOSI / digital pin 11; and so forth. Note, MISO, MOSI, and SCK pins taken together make up most of an SPI interface.
Several Arduinos, including the Uno, have two ICSP headers. One of them is for use with the ATmega328 (or similar), and the other for use with the ATmega16U2 (or similar) chip that implements USB. When present, this allows reprogramming the USB chip.
Yeah pretty sure this ain’t it either, and if it is, I shouldn’t need it. So. What the gosh darn shit is this thing?
I go back to the XD84 page because at this point I have no idea what’s going on. I’d been searching around for hours, getting nowhere and getting there really slowly. Somewhere on the page there’s a “link” to a video
How to assemble XD84 Pro ? pls click this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKw4b7gEG80
Unclickable link, right. Good job web design homie. I start watching the video, it’s actually pretty funny since it seems like this guy is either left handed, filming with his left hand while trying to use his right hand to clumsily grab stuff.. or he’s got his phone in mirror mode or something. Lots of table slapping trying to find the thing
Hold up, what the FUCK is that thing That has the same goddamn connector... what the shit??
OH YOU MOTHER FUCKERS So, guess what time it is?
SNIP SNIP BITCH
So now the bottom of the board is so fresh and so clean clean
The ol’ full disclosure “I tried to desolder it first” shot
GLAMOROUS
This shit’s going to be so dope looking when it’s done.
Almost ready to start soldering, just waiting on flat-top 3mm warm white LEDs for the backlighting. In the meantime, why wouldn’t I make the most obnoxious CAPSLOCK indicator??
5MM bright white LED will let me know that Cruise Control For Cool is in full effect.
chapter 3 // on ao3 // chapter 1 // chapter 2 // chapter 4
------
Tommy remade the potato salad—potatoes cooked. Though overcooked, this time around, so that they dissolved into a mush of starch and mayonnaise when they hit Alfie’s tongue, but then again, it was bound to turn into that form at some point. Saved Alfie the labor of chewing, is how he spun it when Tommy eyed him from across the table. A silly justification, but Tommy did not object.
The Christmas feast was more of a snack, really. Tommy had tried with the salad, served it alongside some frozen peas and cubed carrots. There were charred chicken breasts at the bottom of his trash bin, concealed by the vegetable wrappers, but he refused to admit to those. One failure was enough, though after Alfie’s comment about the potatoes, Tommy was a bit curious how he would excuse something entirely inedible.
The only other thing that was on the table were their glasses filled with cranberry juice, a Santa-shaped candle holder and Alfie’s fruitcake. He’d baked it with extra walnuts—an hour before their agreed time—the middle still warm when they bit in. The candle holder was brought over from his house as well—one of the many decorations on display there.
Tommy had delivered on the music, just as he’d promised. One of the items among his odd blend of belongings was an old record player, paired with a box of Christmas records. His grandpa’s, he explained. Though the truth was that Tommy simply liked Christmas and everything related to it—he had bought the set on sale at some antique store, a long time ago. Lying about it meant that he could avoid the exhausting explanation of why someone like him could be caught humming along to Jingle Bells, something everyone always demanded upon finding out.
With the music, an unlit candle in the middle, and the crumbs of what used to be cake on their plates, quaint, is how Tommy described the scene before him—as opposed to the pitiful he would’ve used just a few months ago.
Perhaps people could be thawed after all.
-
It began snowing somewhere in between dinner and dessert, the flakes dusting the grass and trees outside.
They were washing dishes at the sink, their night coming to a close. Alfie had used the typical It’s getting late line, half-hoping a Christmas miracle would occur and Tommy would insist on him staying. But he didn’t, so Alfie forced the miracle into existence by offering to help clean the tiny mess they’d made.
Alfie was standing beside Tommy, drying the plates, their shoulders only a few inches apart, and he wished it was draftier in here—so that he could blame leaning into Tommy on a sudden gust of wind. Though the air was painfully still, and the task ended quickly.
The only miracle which occurred was Alfie finding the present he had for Tommy hidden under his jacket, as he dressed to leave. He’d forgotten about it, excitement expanding behind his ribs.
“Ah, right—Merry Christmas, Tommy Shelby.” Alfie admitted it was a challenge to choose a gift for someone who did not want to be unwrapped, but Alfie had been taking note of the bits of interests and characteristics that sprouted out of Tommy when they were together. He hoped they had not misled him.
It was a jar, filled with alternating layers of sand and seashells, encased in seawater. A little piece of Margate. Alfie had a whole collection of them—it was a hobby, of sorts, that he began after learning that the family would be selling their summer home soon. He created them using materials scavenged from around the property, because he was particularly fond of that town—nostalgic for the childhood bliss. And considering Tommy was constantly fussing over straightening the picture frame, it seemed he was fond of it too.
Tommy took it from Alfie apprehensively, surveying it in his hands.
“I don’t have anything to offer.” He meant it gift-wise, though the phrasing came out ambiguous, and he did not correct himself. Any interpretation was acceptable, really—Tommy had nothing to offer. Red splotches began blooming on his cheeks. Tommy was cold, and he was emotionless, and he was distant, too selfish to consider that perhaps, buying something for a man who had been showering him with gifts for months would be an appropriate idea. And now he was giving him another one, Tommy once again empty-handed.
This had happened before—he perpetually shivered within a white wasteland, but he would refuse to extinguish Alfie’s warmth with his own chilled existence.
“I wasn’t expecting anything in return.” Alfie explained, hand idling in the space between them.
“I can’t.”
“But—”
“Understand that I can’t.” and he handed back the jar, careful to not accidentally brush Alfie’s fingers.
And that was that.
He turned his attention to the table, pretending to busy himself with the hem of the tablecloth and did not look up until he heard the click of the door shutting behind Alfie.
Pitiful. The word had just been hiding beneath Tommy’s lie.
-
Uncertainty was a concept that Alfie had difficulty with. Ironic, considering the person he had been aching for since late September was the embodiment of that, along with a bundle of other unknowns.
Contact had broken off after that interaction. No window messages, no knocks on his door. He could have even pretended that the house beside his was vacant once again if it weren’t for the gift still lying on his counter, taunting Alfie for his own stupidity.
He spent New Year’s Eve on the couch—counting down the seconds in his head as people danced on the TV screen—and took a single sip of champagne, just in case. For good measure. To avoid another layer of regret from piling onto the current heap pinning him down.
-
It only took about 3 days into the new year before Alfie developed his resolution—he would continue to bake for Tommy.
He had seen the inside of Tommy’s refrigerator and tasted his cooking on multiple occasions, so it would be inhumane to deprive him of the only good food he had access to. That was, at least, how Alfie justified his own desperation.
New recipes, that was the alternate explanation—the one he would turn to if ever prompted. He’d been rummaging around in the basement, storing away the holiday decor, when he came across a forgotten box of recipes his mother had given him. The last one in the set.
They were sorted by name—bagels, biscuits, breads, buns—and Alfie decided he would bake alphabetically, eventually exhausting the list. All 30 variations.
And then, if Tommy had still not made any contact—because that was the underlying purpose of this plan, Alfie admitted to himself—then Alfie would stop. Entirely.
A month should be enough for him to finally accept the expiration of their friendship.
-
Alfie made and remade the first 5 recipes, never fully satisfied with how they tasted. He rolled, sliced, sprinkled and mixed, writing down his exact movements on a scrap of floury paper, hoping that it would somehow solve the issue, but he was still unsatisfied with every result.
It was because they were new recipes—needing to practice was natural—but he did not have that time and worried that serving Tommy something that tasted wrong would offend him even further.
He packaged the products of his baking tightly on disposable plates, bowls and sheets. There was no need to make Tommy feel obligated to return the ceramic dishes, and aluminum would hold in the heat well enough until Tommy found them on his doormat.
Which Tommy did find them, judging by the disappearance of the silver packages. Alfie successfully forbade himself from checking the giant trash cans outside of Tommy’s garage.
-
On the 6th day, Alfie realized he had not baked in something other than his pajamas in this new year yet.
The recipes were perfect from day 7, onwards.
-
If you squinted hard enough and ignored certain details, this little cycle of indirect give-and-take was basically the same thing as the routine they had before. You had to squint very hard, but Alfie did so gladly.
Tommy never responded, but purely out of habit, Alfie checked the empty window at the end of the hall every day.
So it was fair to say that his heart fluttered when he realized that there was now a white blob in it.
I think I’m going to do some renovations.
Day 20.
-
On Day 21, Alfie responded to the message. His immediate reaction the day before was to rush next door and ask in person—before inviting himself in onto the project—but a few deep breaths and some peppermint tea to settle his excitement produced this decision.
What kind of renovations?
On day 22, he received a response.
Some painting. Maybe some furniture. Some decorations. It was as descriptive as Tommy tended to get. Alfie smiled to himself.
He waited until day 23 to write back—even if this did turn out to be the tail-end of their relationship after all, there was at least one outstanding benefit that Alfie had reaped from it: more patience.
Very nice. Some bright colors will complement the flowers nicely. He stayed up the night leading into day 24.
-
Across the stretch of grass and behind the glass, Tommy tossed around in his own bed.
He had extended the olive branch—he had done this intentionally, partially tormented into doing so by the scene from Christmas rattling inside of his head.
Tommy Shelby was used to loneliness. He had pushed and been pushed away by enough people to eventually grow indifferent to being alone. Though in none of the other situations was anyone so persistent in continuing to care, however small the gestures might be.
Knowing Alfie, he had conjured up some reason for why he was still baking—probably something about it being ‘inhumane’ to deprive Tommy of good cooking. It was nice of him to do so, Tommy thought, but the food turned sour in his mouth without Alfie’s commentary as a side-dish.
Therefore, the renovation was a cluster of a few things: a legitimate goal, a weak apology, and a cryptic excuse to re-ignite their friendship. Because in 23-plus days, Tommy had learned that he preferred to be alone, together.
So, You Want to Build a Keyboard
Keyboards are something we use almost every day to do so many of our tasks, whether they be school, work or personal related. But not many people consider the endless possibilities of keyboard customization and how it can completely change your typing experience. The hobby of mechanical keyboard building is not one of the most popular hobbies, but many people do find it very fun and rewarding and will invest a good amount of money into it. The price of a high end custom keyboard can be upwards of $800, but the good news is, you can still build your own keyboard that works just as well for a much cheaper price, which is great if you are just dipping your toes into this hobby.
First, you will need to know the basic parts of the keyboard:
Case: This is the material that surrounds the whole keyboard, a bit like a tray. It can be made of a variety of different materials, such as plastic, aluminum, or acrylic. You will also have to choose a keyboard size. A 100% keyboard is a full-size keyboard with function keys and a number pad. An 80%, or “tenkeyless” keyboard is essentially a 100% board without the number pad, and a 60% board is a more compact board with only 68 keys. These are the three most popular sizes, but there are many more variations.
PCB: Or, printed circuit board, is what the switches are mounted to. Switches are either mounted to the plate via soldering, or the PCB can be hot-swappable, meaning that the switches can be easily popped in and out. I would recommend this for first time builds.
Switches: Switches are an important part of the keyboard, they are what is under the key caps, and depending on what kind you choose they can be very clicky, silent, or somewhere in between.
Keycaps: These go on top of the switches and are the part you press on when using the keyboard. You can choose any kind of color or design for your keycaps depending on the look you’re going for. You can find keycaps on sites like Amazon or AliExpress for decent prices. Another option would be to join a group buy. These are organized by independent designers of keycaps and are only produced once. The group buy is open for a selected period, and once it is closed, you cannot purchase those keycaps again. This option is more expensive, and the wait time is longer, but you will get a unique set of keycaps that will be hard to find anywhere else.
For budget first time builds, it will be more cost effective to buy a premade hot-swappable keyboard, but you still will be able to customize it yourself by choosing your own switches and keycaps. One good option is the Keychron K6, which is a 65% board, or the Drop CTRL which is a 75% board. Both are quality keyboards, and still allow you to do a decent amount of customization.
Building your first custom keyboard is a fun process, and very rewarding seeing the final result, and knowing you built something you will use every day. You can express yourself make your keyboard into whatever you want it to be, and not break the bank at the same time.
Roleplay Ramblings: Gaming Peripherals part 1
Dice and Rolling Options
(Image today is a bit special, as it isn’t a stock image, but a pic of my own dice collection at the time of writing this entry!)
As long as people have been playing games on a tabletop, they’ve been using all sorts of ways to determine random outcomes. Card decks are a classic, as are spinners, but one of the oldest and most iconic has always been dice.
Originally derived from the knucklebones of hooved animals, the concept of thrown objects determining fate has been with us for a very, very long time, and we’ve come a long way from whittled bone, stone, and wood.
This week, we’re going to take a step back from the fantastical worlds that we play in to talk about the sort of tools we use to play the games, starting with dice.
For Pathfinder and Starfinder and most other tabletop roleplaying games, you’ll generally need a standard set of 7 fantasy dice, namely a d20, d12, d10, d%, d8, d6, and d4, which for the uninitiated, are labled for the number of sides each dice has with the exception of the d%, which is another d10 with different numbering to represent the 10’s place when rolled with the d10, allowing the two to effectively count as a d100.
There are a multitude of different dice companies out there, providing dice for all levels of income, everything from standard plastic dice in a variety of colors to more intricate designs and even those made of exotic materials. As the latter are more expensive and very clearly luxury items, please buy within your means.
That being said, if you have the disposable income and the interest, dice collecting is a fun little subset of tabletop gaming culture. People love their shiny geometry rocks.
Of course, not every dice set fits in so well. Some are more bizarre. For example, prism dice, which are vagely cylindrical or polygonal prismic objects with one face along their circumference for every face of a more standard type of dice, the idea being that when they are rolled, they guarantee to cycle through all the possible numbers before coming to rest, which might appeal to some.
Other such strange dice include those of abnormal sides, like d3s, d5s, d7s, d30s, and so on, which are of limited use in pathfinder, but may have some use in some other system.
Another fun example are fudge dice, which are d6s with two blank sides, two (+) sides, and two (-) sides. The idea being that such systems have the players rolling a set number of dice, and trying to accrue as many positive results as possible while getting as few negative results.
This is of course, to say nothing of specialty dice for certain systems. For example, the (literal) fantasy football game blood bowl uses special d6’s with results for how various teammates succeed at tackles, though knowing the number of sides, one can simply use a normal d6 as long as everyone is clear on what numbers mean what.
If you’ve got some disposable income and a need to treat yourself in a dice-focused way, you could always get dice made out of more expensive materials. A common choice is metal dice, usually aluminum with a plated metal outside of a different color, though other metals are available (and expensive). You can also see caged dice too, which are wonders of water-cutting that separate the outer edge of the dice so that the central core with the numbers can bounce and rattle inside, though not enough to misalign the faces.
The most expensive options are probably heavy metals like tungsten, or semiprecious stone dice, which are easily pure luxury items.
An important thing to remember with such fancy dice is protection, as metal dice might damage some surfaces, especially heavier metals like tungsten, so definitely consider investing in rolling surfaces.
Of course, the cheapest option for rolling dice is to not roll dice at all, but rather generate the results with any number of random number generators and dice apps. The latter of which even usually have options to program in rolls with the bonuses and number of dice for various abilities and uses of your character. Additionally, many online tabletop platforms like Roll20 come with their own dice rolling, both with normal RNG and with virtual dice that bounce and roll on-screen.
Of course, such generators run into the problem of how random they seem vs how random they actually are, so some folks, particularly those with a computer background, may be dubious of any system that claims to produce chaos from a fundamentally ordered system. Still, for purely online gaming, it’s one of the best options outside of pure trust or taking a video of every roll.
Stepping away from the dice themselves, let’s talk a moment about rolling surfaces. Dice trays have become very popular as of late as a way to provide a flat surface, often of leather to minimize impact, that also has raised edges to keep dice from bouncing off of tables and getting lost, or knocking into other things such as miniatures and the like.
An older variant of this is the dice tower, a device that comes in various shapes and sizes, but is meant to allow a player to drop dice in the top, and have it come out the bottom, producing their roll. The idea behind this is that not only does it prevent dice from getting everywhere, but it also supposedly helps with players who believe they have terrible rolls or rolling technique, letting physics and the multiple angled ledges within the tower do the rolling for them. I’ve seen some truly delightful designs for such towers, making them just as much collector’s items as the dice themselves, in many cases.
Traditionally, dice are typically carried in bags, which range in size and ornamentation. Recently, wooden dice boxes have become popular as well, with choices of custom wood and engraving being available as well.
With all of these things in mind, what’s the takeaway from all this? For new players, the best advice I can give you is pick up a basic dice set for cheap. Ten USD is about the right price for a normal plastic set. From there, only you can decide what you want and need out of the aforementioned dice and peripherals. If you want a giant dice bag full of a million dice? Go for it. Want some fancy sets with wooden custom dice boxes? By all means. You do you, but remember that these are luxuries for a game, so set a budget for how much you’re willing to spend at a time, especially if you’re at a gaming con and the like, where prices may be inflated.
Of my personal collection of dice and related paraphenelia, I use a lot of Chessex, a few Q-Workshop, some Norse Foundry and Level Up Dice, with boxes by Elderwood Academy and Wormwood. All of these are great sources, but hardly the end-all and be-all of such products, by all means do some searching of your own!
That does it for today, but we’ve got more in the works as the week progresses. I hope you like this diverging variation of the blog’s formula!
cupcake pt 5
Pairing: Jesse McCree x Reader
Words: 1261
EDIT 9/2 --- I typed this on my ipad while camping over the weekend and posted it. Now it’s edited and Genji’s name has been replaced after autocorrect killed it.
------------------------------------------------------------------
You sat with your hands in your lap, twiddling your thumbs as Reyes walked into the conference room with a datapad in hand. Jesse sat beside you, casually lounging in the swivel chair. You could hear the spurs on his boots tinkling as he moved his foot back and forth on the carpet.
Why the hell were you nervous? It was a mission. A mission with your best friend. Something you had done so many times before that you couldn’t even count them.
And it was simple enough of a mission you came to find out. Litrally nothing to be nervous about.
Infiltrate a downed communications base and return with the drive that would go on to help with some other mission far beyond your pay level.
Easy peasy. Should be in and out.
“No goofing off,” Reyes added, pointing a finger at Jesse.
Laughing, Jesse kicked into a twirl in the swivel chair once more. “Wouldn’t dream of it, boss.”
Straightening, you watched as Commander Reyes stared Jesse down before sliding the datapad to you. “Drop ship leaves at 0600.”
As Reyes started to leave, you looked down to the datapad, reviewing everything he had told the two of you. Jesse started to leave, but stopped when he realized you weren’t following. “Something wrong, darlin? Seemed straightforward enough.”
Shaking yourself, you looked up to Jesse. “I’m fine,” you shrugged. “Just lost in thought.”
“Hmm,” Jesse nodded, stepping back up to the table. “Let’s go grab a drink. My treat. Since I ditched ya last Friday.”
“You don’t have to buy me a beer to make up for missing a movie night, Jesse,” you started, standing from the chair to face him.
“But I want to.”
You looked up to him. His brown eyes showed how genuine he was being. And you had no reason to doubt Jesse.
Except maybe one. The one that was screaming at you. The one saying “he’s got a girlfriend, you idiot!”.
If he had a girlfriend, this was just drinks between friends. No pressure, you thought. You liked drinking. You like drinking with Jesse.
“Sure thing. Just as long as we don’t get plastered. We’ve got a dropship to catch in the morning.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it, darlin’.”
***
It was supposed to be easy.
Get in. Get the intel. Get out without anybody noticing you.
That’s what Blackwatch was about. Covert operations.
So how in the hell had you been made?
“You alright over there, darlin’?” Jesse’s voice brought you back to the present as you huddled in the corner of the stairwell, datapad and holo-maps forgotten in your hands.
“I’m fine,” you nodded, pulling yourself straighter and checking your sidearm. “We need to get out of here. They’ll be on us in minutes.”
Jesse nodded, gaze focused on the upper landing of the stairwell before trailing to the floor at his feet. “How many did ya say?”
“Five.”
Jesse nodded. “That all of them?”
“Thermo scans reveal no other presences in the building,” you intoned, relaying the information from your datapad. “Reyes is going to kill us.”
“Nah, he won’t,” Jesse smirked, tucking the stolen security key into his pocket with the USB drive.
“If we die, he will figure out a way to bring us back to kill us.”
“Reyes ain’t gonna be mad, sweetheart,” Jesse smirked.
“And how can you be so damned sure?”
As you finished your question, the footsteps above you had grown louder. The five Talon operatives chasing you had entered the stairwell. Releasing the safety on your firearm, you glared at Jesse, mouthing “Plan?”
Jesse only smirked, sliding along the wall to offer himself a view up the middle of the stairwell. Slowly, gaze not trailing from the darkened landings above, he reloaded his Peacekeeper.
You rolled your eyes as you heard the barrel roll as he finished. Slowly, he straightened his shoulders. “If you say it …” you muttered, but by the time you had finished the thought, Jesse had released five shots in quick succession with a triumphant smirk.
Looking back to your datapad, you smirked. “It’s high noon,” you muttered.
“Let’s get out of here,” Jesse smirked, pushing you towards the door.
***
The safe house was small. A one bedroom apartment over a laundromat in a not so reputable part of town. Furnished with thrift store finds and basic necessities, it would do.
Letting yourselves in, Jesse went straight for the kitchen, setting the pizza box and six-pack on the counter and finding a stack of paper plates in the cabinet. You dropped your gear in the living room, slumping down on the sofa.
Jesse found a movie on TV while you showered, and before long, the two of you were two beers in with no more pizza watching a crappy movie on a crappy couch.
Yet it felt … weird.
This was what you had always done on those Friday nights. Pizza, beer, and movie at your apartment. Laughing about bad acting, debating about the plot, or talking about nonsense. Yet, here you sat, silent.
Jesse glanced over to you as you sat on the other end of the couch, can of beer in your hand. You stared at the aluminum can intently, almost frozen. “Y’all alright?”
“Yeah. Just … tired.” You cringed at your own words, shaking your head. “No, I’m not fine.”
“What’s buggin’ ya?”
You stared up at him. He relaxed further against the sofa, legs sprawled out in front of him. “You … to be honest. Last night was the first time I’ve actually talked to you in weeks.”
“That’s not true,” he laughed. “We talk all the time.”
“Uh huh,” you nodded, turning to face him as you curled your legs under you. “This girl you asked out the other night. How’d the date go?”
Jesse visibly blushed. His cheeks went pink and he coughed into his hand before taking a sip from his beer. “Why, you wanna run a background check on her? Genji already offered.”
“No, I want to know how my best friend’s date went.”
Jesse stared at you. He had hoped you’d forget about his ‘date’. He had hoped he’d figure out how to talk to you about his feelings before now. He hoped you had feelings that matched his.
“It, uh, didn’t work out.”
“What?!”
“She didn’t like …” He motioned to himself. “Said cowboys are overrated.”
“Are you just making that up so you don’t have to tell me?”
“What? No!”
“Jesse.”
He sighed, sitting forward and placing his beer on the coffee table. “There wasn’t a date. I … lied to ya.”
“Well, thanks.” You scoffed playfully, sitting back and sipping your beer. Noticing the change in Jesse’s demeanor, his elbows on his knees, hands folded together, you relaxed. “Jesse, are you okay?”
“There really is a girl,” he said quickly. Almost too quickly. He turned back to you. “A girl I really like. But I didn’t go out with her. Technically. In the date sense. We’ve hung out.” Sighing, he stood, waving off his thought as he carried the empty pizza box into the kitchen.
You watched him, his emotions battling it out in his expression. He seemed to be avoiding looking directly at you.
“I thought telling you I had a date would make it easier … maybe give me some time to think it through.”
“Jesse, I think you’ve lost me.”
Jesse was a simple man. He liked pizza, beer, crappy movies. He loved you.
“Doesn’t matter,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m gonna … take a shower.”
*********************
His arm was sore from where Byers inserted the smallest of metal rods containing some kind of scientific doo-hickey that would tell them where he was, anywhere in the world, within a couple hundred yards, Mulder disbelieving but not willing to truly test the theory by going 600 miles the other side of the middle of nowhere. Now he watched Scully get hers while she talked quietly about this that and the other thing to Frohike … antiseptic, nick, probe, insert, Neosporin, two stitches, Bandaid.
“Ready, Mulder?”
Eyes drifted from where she was adjusting her sleeve, then pulling on her sweater, up to her face, “sore?”
“Not yet. Yours?”
“A little. I think Byers took out some latent anger with the scalpel.”
Byers gave them a smile as he cleaned up, “you do owe me $22 for food from our last poker night. I may have pulled the stitches a little tighter than I should have.”
Thanking them, then quietly reminding them to forget everything that had happened in the last four hours, Mulder and Scully headed out into the snow, which was beginning to blow down the alley and around the corner, freezing any and all exposed skin. The only thing he could see of Scully was a slit where her eyes were, squinted against the driving ice pellets, scarf thick and warm around her head, “hey.”
“Hey, what?”
“Wanna go on a date?”
Skidding to a stop when her boots hit a packed down section of snow, “a what?”
“A date. The kind of thing we skipped right over when we went from ‘hey, let’s surf’ to ‘hey, take off your pants’.
She inhaled a wee bit of yarn fuzz from her scarf at this point, “hey, take off your pants?”
“Not here, it’s cold but maybe later.” Reaching out to grip her mittened hand, “I think we should go do something that a normal couple would do.”
“What the hell do normal couples do?”
“I don’t know. We can go to the movies or go get some dinner or fly to Italy?” Eyes glittering now with possibilities, “or we could drive south until we get out of the snow or hey, we could pack a bunch of blankets and head to Babar and chill, no pun intended, until spring.”
Head spinning with a whirlwind of suggestions to match the gale whipping her coat, “slow down, partner. Babar is buried in snow and Italy is too long a flight for now. I don’t want to sit in the car for 8 hours to find the end to winter but I could really go for some Mexican and maybe a movie with one of those incredible large buckets of artificially buttered popcorn … Oh my God, Mulder, we need to go eat food right now.”
Laughing at her, pulling her scarf down enough to reveal the tip of her nose, he brushed his over it, “where do you want to eat? Fast or slow?”
“Slow. I want to watch them make the guac so I can request extra lime and onion.”
“For that reason, I won’t be kissing you later,” he could see the shape of her mouth through the scarf and kissing the general area, “so I’ll just do it now.”
Sudden giddy giggle emerged and she nudged him towards the car, “car, move, hungry.”
“Use your words, Scully.”
“Food.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
&&&&&&&
It took ten minutes to drive, park and given the ugliness of the weather, to be seated in a corner, cozy booth, menus in hand and waters on the way, “not too busy for a Saturday night.”
Grinning at him as she opened the menu, honing in on the fajita section, “it’s 5 degrees out and snowing. Every sane person is home, in their slippers, trying to keep warm.”
“More salsa for us then.” Digging into the freebies on the table, “what are you getting?”
“I was debating the fajitas for two, shrimp and steak.”
“Oh, I was looking at the chicken chimichangas.”
Moving in on the salsa as well, “I never said the fajitas were for sharing, Mulder.”
As his head dipped, smile wide, “you’ll have a ton of leftovers.”
Biting her chip and twinkling her eyes at him, “maybe.”
Two hours and two orders of Guacamole later, Scully had her feet up on the booth seat beside Mulder and he had his hand wrapped around her ankle, picking random green peppers off her plate, “think we should head out?”
“What? Is it already over? Dates usually last past 9pm, don’t they? And if so, we are severally short changing ourselves.”
“I don’t know how dates work? Maybe some do end at 7:47pm, give people a chance to get home, put on pajamas, complain to friends on the phone how the guy didn’t pay and the sour cream was warm.”
Shaking her head at him as she rested against the vinyl back, “I think we should wander the street for five minutes and see what the cool kids are doing these days.”
“Five minutes and they’ll be frozen kids.” Squeezing her leg, he shifted to pull out his wallet, “date night, guy pays, call me sexist but whatever.”
“I’m not complaining. I forgot my wallet in the car.” Crunching one last chip for the road, “we can get it when we walk past.”
Dropping tip on table and picking up bill, “I think we can manage without your wallet for the evening.”
“I also need some gum.”
“Car it is.”
&&&&&&&&
Shivering after two minutes, Mulder stopped dead in front of a store, nodded his head, pulled her inside, “come on.”
Warm air hit her face, what was exposed anyway, and her eyes lit up …
He’d taken them into a bookstore. An independent little place that when she stood on her toes to see over the stacks of items, seemed to extend backwards to infinity; more than likely a few hundred feet but still, whatever, felt like miles.
“Feel like staying?”
She would have heard him but she was already ten feet away, unraveling scarf, following her nose wherever it led, behind a stack, around a table, through a doorway marked ‘red things, cooking, fantasy and small’. Mulder hoped he’d see her again by spring.
Nodding to the one worker, bedecked in cardigan, kilt and Yankees ball cap, he meandered to a wooden carved sign hanging from the ceiling declaring the section on aliens, astronomy, alchemy and algebra. Believing he had fallen down a rabbit hole, he broke the silence by asking, “how late are you open?”
The kilted gentleman answered, his mouth full of pizza, “we’re open ‘til we close, man, no hurry at all. I live upstairs so it’s a short commute.”
As a Tortie cat wandered through, giving Mulder a thorough look and sniff, “how many books do you have in here?”
“Lost count a few years back.” Pointing to Mulder’s right, “there are two rooms in the direction your wife went and,” pointing now to his left, “three more than way. If you get lost, yell.”
And he did.
He found Scully again nearly two hours later as she surprised him coming around the corner of the doorway leading to ‘medical, marvelous, sparkly and green’, “oh, hi.”
“Hi.” Eyeing the stack of books nearly blocking her face, “find anything?”
She almost worked up to embarrassed, “this is my second stack. Corky already has the first one.”
Mulder gave her a look of complete incredulity, whispering, “kilt man is named Corky?”
“Yes, Fox.”
“Touche.” Setting book in hand on the pile by his feet, “ready to go?”
“We probably should although I haven’t even made it to the ‘fiction about dead people’,” looking over her shoulder and squinting to read the ornate sign, “humorous cats, chubby hamsters and historically ordinary men with mustaches.”
“Oh, we’ll be back. This may very well be my new favorite place in the universe.”
“Where was your original favorite place in the universe?”
“It’s slightly x-rated.”
Pretty sure she knew exactly where he was talking about, she had the sense to turn slightly red, cheeks pinking up enough to let him know she knew, “come on. We need to go find out if we have to ask my mother for a loan to buy Ramen so we can eat for the next month.”
Corky, having moved on to lounging in a reclining aluminum lawn chair behind the checkout desk, cat on stomach, book in hand, dislodged animal and stood when he caught sight of them walking towards him, “I see you’ve found more.” Perusing the titles, nodding at some, eyebrow raising in appreciation at others, “good stuff, too. Totally don’t even remember getting this one in so kudos for finding it. If you don’t like it, bring it back, I’d like to read it when you’re done.”
And he was completely serious.
So was Scully when she nodded, “I will.”
Mulder wanted to ask if Corky needed a part-time employee but refrained, instead, pulling out his credit card, “what’s the damage there, Corky?”
The amount did not knock them off their feet. Made them inhale a bit deeper, wonder fleetingly if maybe they should put one or two back on the shelves but then Corky, being Corky, an excellent Corky in a world of Johns and Ryans and Donalds, handed back Mulder’s card, “and just ‘cause the weather sucks and your wife bought something with a shiny cover,” holding out a box of donuts, open, glazed, “you both get a snack for the road.”
Scully, getting a little hungry again, took one without question, and feeling the calm of paper and dust and musty pages surrounding her, “do you have a section on aura mapping and/or aura projecting?”
“Of course. In the back under ‘rainbows and righteous soul things’.”
“My husband would like to marry you.”
Holding up his left hand and occupied ring finger, “taken but I’d love to have a conversation with you about the whole aura thing if you’ve ever got the time. You are a very curious shade of red.”
Mulder glanced at Scully’s hair, in the process of being trapped under her hat, “I always assumed I’d be blue.”
Once everything was bagged and they’d finished a few more minutes of conversation, they headed out to the street, Mulder hefting two bags while Scully carried one, “thank God for canvas bags. Paper ones wouldn’t have held up.”
“I may not hold up. Did everything you bought have to be hardcover?”
“Pot, kettle, Mulder. You’ve got a 20 lb. book about tasseography.”
Putting stuff in the trunk, he grabbed her before she could open her door, turning her, leaning her against the Jeep, wiggling down scarf to kiss her long and slow, only pulling away when he could feel her begin to smile, “we should date more often.”
“We should and you know what’s best about dating me?”
“I have at least 480 reasons but lay it on me.”
Tugging her scarf up after another quick kiss, “you get to go home with me and take your pants off.”
“Always with the pants off.”
“Do you object?”
“Just get in the car.”
&&&&&&&&
Eventually, they arrived home, slow-going on the icy roads, to have to lug everything upstairs, leftovers included this time, “okay, there is a four book limit for our next visit.”
“Each or total?”
Tripping on the last step and hitting the wall with his elbow, “each.”
As she took the largest of the bags from him, “I can live with that. It won’t happen but I can live with the concept of it.”
Giving her a tired smirk, “then only paperbacks.”
Wet boots left at the bottom of the stairs, they only had to shed frozen coats and accessories before they could hone in on hot chocolate packets from the cupboards and super thick socks from the bedroom, “meet me on the couch in five minutes.”
Like he’d ever not meet her on the couch in five minutes and after the five minutes were up, he turned, about to yell that she was late when she appeared, package of fudge striped cookies in one hand and two mugs of cocoa in the other. Taking his, he sipped, burned his tongue, nibbled a cookie, loved his life in general, watched her settle before she asked, “so, what did you buy?”
“Didn’t you already see the titles when he rang them up?”
“Yes, but now I want you to tell me why you bought them and the order you’re going to read them.”
Another sip, another burn, another nibble, “you are such a geek, Scully.”
“Corky also thinks I’m your wife.”
Offering her a bite of his cookie, which she accepted readily, “we should get on that.”
Perfectly fine with marriage hanging in the air over them for what could possibly be years to come, “probably.”
What You Need To Know About Oil Fondue
Let’s talk about meat fondue recipes and what you need to know first. Meat fondue also known as oil fondue is a method of cooking all kinds of meats, poultry, and seafood in a pot of heated oil. Each person participating in a fondue experience, cooks his/her meat by placing a small portion or chunk on the end of a long fondue fork and placing it inside the pot of oil to cook. When the meat has finished cooking in the oil, it’s then placed on a small plate where you can then dip each piece of cooked meat into previously prepared sauces. Meat fondue recipes can also be prepared as a broth fondue, replacing the oil with your favorite broth – chicken, vegetable, or beef – to name a few. Below, I’ve provided a pretty organized way of preparing and eating meat fondue recipes. Hope you find this helpful! First, it’s great fun and an easy way to entertain a good group of friends or family. With fondue cooking, everything can be done ahead of time and your guests cook their own food! How easy is that? Oil fondue is used for cooking meats such as beef, lamb, chicken, fish, and seafood. The great thing is, you can do oil fondue as either an appetizer or as a main entree. Second, you need a good and reliable cooking unit. With meat fondue recipes, the pot needs to be one that keeps the oil hot and is safe to use at your table. There are a wide range of fondue pots in a variety of styles. Some are complete sets including fondue condiment sets and special fondue plates and forks, as well as burner, stand, metal pot, and a tray to protect the table and catch spatters. Other types, you’ll need to buy each item separately. But that has its advantages in that you get to create your own customized fondue set in the colors you want and the accessories that you want to use. Fondue pots are made specifically for a range of different purposes. Stainless steel, aluminum, copper and silver plate or sterling silver pots are generally used for oil and meat fondue recipes where enamel-coated cast iron or ceramic pots are used for cheese or chocolate fondues. In today’s market, you can also find non-stick coated fondue pots that make cleaning not such a chore. With the wide variety of pots and cooking units also comes with a wide variety of price ranges – from very inexpensive to costly. The thing to look for, in my opinion, is the sturdiness in the construction of the pot. If you are looking for and all-purpose container that can be used for more than oil fondue, make sure the unit has the capability of being able to adjust the heat source. Fondue Bourguignonne is a traditional meat fondue recipe. The pan used for this is wider at the base and curves in at the top. Why? Because it eliminates some of the spattering that occurs when raw meat hits the hot oil and the shape helps to hold the heat. Most bourguignonne pots are are 1 1/2 to 2-quart capacity. What if you don’t have a fondue pot or don’t want to spend the money on one? You can always improvise with any good heating unit that burns denatured alcohol, canned heat, or butane. The container for the oil could be any saucepan or chaffing dish. It must be one that is at least 3 1/2 inches deep and not more than about 8 inches in diameter. If it has straight sides and possibly curves inward at the top, even better. Like the bourguignonne pan, it reduces splatters and keeps the heat. Some other items used with fondue pots: Fondue forks and plates are designed for cooking and serving meat fondue recipes and are available in a wide range of materials, sizes, shapes, colors, and of course, price ranges. Long bamboo skewers can be used instead of forks. The disadvantage is, it’s sometimes harder to keep the meat or bread on the skewer while it is cooking and the oil can be so hot that you risk getting too close to it and burning yourself. Fondue forks are long – at least 10 inches long – and have insulated tips for safety from burning when using oil or broth fondues. The tines on the forks should be generous in length and not made of flimsy materials. Many places that sell fondue pots and their accessories will provide a set of forks with different colored handles for each. This works similarly to the little doo-dads we attach to wine glasses for identification purposes. There’s also a fun fondue game you can play to get the party started. Fondue plates are special because they have little sections built into them in the form of small indentations for sauces and a larger section for the meat. They are convenient and nice to have, but not necessary. These plates are usually available in ceramic, china, pottery, plastic or metal. Fondue sauce bowls are often used and are particularly festive when the colors or designs of the bowls complement the rest of the fondue set. They are passed around with the different fondue sauces to each of the guests. Below is the recipe for Fondue Bourguignonne: What you’ll need: – 3 pound piece boneless beef sirloin or tenderloin – 2 cups cooking oil (canola or other vegetable oil) OR – 1 cup oil + 1 cup Clarified Butter – Salt and Pepper to taste – Dipping Sauces (check out all the wonderful dipping sauces you can make on my web site. See info below.) Trim the fat from the meat and cut into bite-size cubes. Keep refrigerated until about 20 minutes before serving. This recipe lends itself to doing everything in advance of your party, makeing it an easy recipe. Important: Please feel free to republish this article on your web site or in your ezine.
