I found my bear!

When I was a kid, we had to hand-sew bears for Home Economics class. My first bear was confiscated because the teacher was convinced I used a sewing machine. I didn't. I was just that obsessive at hand sewing (stitches 1-2mm apart). The second one, I had to hand sew in her classroom so she could watch me do it (and I wouldn't get an F). I didn't mind. I really liked the bear. The teacher kept the bear for future reference or something. So - two bears made, and none for me to keep. :'(

I remember the bear kit was handed to me in a brown paper lunch bag with the pieces and the instructions. I've been searching for "teddy bear sewing kit" for years without success.

For whatever reason, tonight it finally occurred to me that it might have been a pattern, and the teacher cut out the pieces, photocopied the instructions, and just handed us a ready-made "kit."

I searched for teddy bear pattern around the time I was in school, and lo and behold - I found my bear: Butterick craft pattern 5627.

Buying back my childhood, one doll house kit and bear pattern at a time.
