#But yeah. I might do Liu Qingge later. I’ve got feelings about him too.

Shang Qinghua & Parallel Characters Analysis
[Mild Spoilers for SVSSS, MDZS, and TGCF]
So I’ve been thinking a lot about Scum Villain recently, particularly the other characters aside from Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu. And of those characters, Liu Qingge and Shang Qinghua have taken up a majority of those thoughts.
But I’m just going to give some thoughts on our Airplane Bro today.
Honestly, I don’t think he’s given enough credit as an author, a transmigrator, or a Peak Lord/demon lord’s assistant. I mean, no matter how shitty his writing is, props to him for pumping out 10k words a day! That’s an impressive feat on its own, and he definitely deserves credit for that. If you wanted quality work, you shouldn’t come looking for a novel with daily updates that take an hour to read, Cucumber Bro.
Also, he died and then ended up in the body of a baby with full consciousness of himself, his past life, and what his future likely holds. He had to struggle through childhood again despite being an adult, bullied and beaten by his martial siblings, and later by his dream guy who really had no idea SQH was getting the wrong idea the whole time, but whatever. Though I do wonder what tasks his System assigned to him while he was a baby.

Jokes aside, SQH deserves a round of applause. The poor dude, underestimated by literally everyone in his lifetime, managed to work his way up to the position of Peak Lord and right-hand man of a demon lord. He was taken advantage of so much that it makes my heart hurt, but he just keeps going. Shang Qinghua, even if no one else is proud of you, I’m proud of you.
So upon these realizations, I also found some parallel characters from MXTX’s other works: Nie Huaisang from MDZS and Ling Wen from TGCF. They’re not perfect parallels, but let me explain.
First of all, both NHS and SQH are looked down upon and sorely underestimated all their lives. They’re seen as the weak, untalented, pretty much good-for-nothing characters. Half of the time, they serve as a doormat for others and are kind of the butt of many jokes. They themselves are also pretty aware of their uselessness compared to the “more talented” characters.
But both NHS and SQH are masterminds in their own rights. People overlook them, so they learned to blend into the background, pulling all the strings from behind the scenes. Everyone thinks they don’t know anything, but they literally know everything. They both have this helpless, abused puppy act that they put on to lower other people’s expectations of them in some sort of twisted manipulation that works really well. They also have a main character best friend who goes through a crazy love trial, and it’s somewhat due to their meddling. Not to mention, they’re overshadowed by powerful men who only know how to show tough love, but really just want the best for them.
Though I must admit that I wasn’t too fond of NHS from the beginning, I did sympathize with him a bit. But SQH, my precious boy, I’m glad he got a happy ending with his build-it-yourself demon boyfriend (husband?? I hope they got married).
Moving on, SQH and Ling Wen. Their similarities start and end with the fact that they have similar duties. SQH makes sure Cang Qiong Sect is running smoothly in terms of all the paperwork being in order, and all the funds are being used properly and whatnot. Basically, he does all the boring desk work while the other Peak Lords travel around and go monster hunting with their disciples.
LW is literally the only capable civil god in the Upper Heavens, and when she disappeared for a bit, the entirety of the Heavens were running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Paperwork piled up and got pushed around because no one wanted the responsibility of taking on such a task. Basically, nothing got done when she was gone.
So SQH and LW are both extremely underappreciated when it comes to their work. While their personalities differ quite a bit, they are both perpetually buried in piles of paperwork, nothing can get done without them, and they hold much more power than they will ever be given credit for.
Anyway, why did I bother picking him apart? It’s really just because I’ve got a lot of feelings right now, and Shang Qinghua is so fucking pathetic, I love him. I just want to angrily squish his cheeks and tell him I appreciate him, but also vent my frustration by screaming in his face. Did I mention he’s pathetic?
