i love your posts about the mainline pokemon games knowing you're such a pmdhead. i always imagine you playing the games like "shouldn't i BE the creatures instead of catching them?"
Thanks! XD and YEAH somehow being the “trainer” doesn’t feel as natural as just being the pokemon itself lol. I think the biggest drawback of the main games compared to the spin-offs like pmd for me are how immersive the pokemon experience is, if that makes sense. I haven’t played a mainline game on the switch, but especially for the installments without overworld pokemon partner sprites (BW, XY, etc), it felt like they were just games “featuring” pokemon instead of those actually “about” them. Like they’re there, you encounter them, the evil teams are trying to exploit them, but outside of battles you don’t really see them much. On the other hand, with games like pmd or pokepark (which I never played but looks like a lot of fun :3), the pokemon themselves get more of the spotlight. It feels like you get to experience the world more, and get a closer look at what a world full of pokemon might be like (at least in the absence of humans lol).
#heinousactszx#thanks for the ask!#Absolutely no hate to the mainline games#They have their merits#But never found them QUITE as fun as the spin-offs#I think the other thing is that there’s not much “bonding” with the pokemon on your team either#Especially BW it seems#Bc in gen 6 they had the pokemon amie#And then camping? And now a…sandwich mini game?#Idk maybe BW just got the short straw with it a bit#Gen 5 DID have the movie studio thing but I never cared about it much 😅#But again it feels like there just there#Whereas in pmd they have some personality#Even the recruitable pokemon in dungeons have a few phrases to say#But ur right my perception of the franchise was probably biased by starting with explorers XD
