Just a blurb about Alastor and his Secret Girlfriend who is with the Vee's
Made a part 1, you should go check it out! Part 1
"I am going out to visit a friend of mine in cannibal town. I will not be back until tomorrow." Alastor announces to the group before walking out of the hotel as everyone gives weird looks to each other.
"Smiles has friends?" Angel pipes up as everyone shrugs in response.
~~~~
As he walks down the road, sinners all around avoid him as they dive into nearby dumpsters or through nearby doors and windows.
Humming to himself, Alastor's smile is polite and relaxed as he feels excitement and impatience bubble in his chest, a feeling that was unknown until a few months ago.
Crossing the town line, finally reaching cannibal town his long strides take him past the long line that ran out of Rosie's door.
"Ahhh Rosie, my dear friend." Alastor calls out once he enters the house.
"Alastorrrr~ How are you?" She stands up from her seat, leaving the cannibal that she was once talking to.
"I am doing just fine. Now-" He lowers his voice leaning in. "Where is she?"
"Ahh, yes. She is just upstairs. The normal room, my friend."
Alastor nods sending her one of his sweeter smiles, his legs now moving faster towards the stairs. Scaling them he reaches the top, looking for the door that leads to his peace.
His smile falls to one of pure relaxation and calm as he reaches the door. Grabbing the nob, he turns it and quickly closing it behind him.
"My doe." He coo's.
The doe turns around quickly, her smile growing. "Alastor." She breaths out, running into his arms, her legs wrapped around his waist.
Dropping his staff, his arms wrap around her thighs so she doesn't fall.
"Ah my doe, is something wrong?"
Humming she shakes her head 'no'. "Jus' missed you." Her voice comes out mumbled from his neck.
Placing her legs down onto the ground, he lets out a sigh of content. Kissing the top of her head, he watches her ears twitch as she nuzzles her head deeper into his neck.
Pulling away her red eyes look into his. "Vox has been working me non-stop, he acts as if I'm not an overlord myself, let alone stronger than him."
Alastor's eye twitches at the thought of his doe working tirelessly. His eyes travel down to her outfit, seeing her already in the nightgown he bought her the last time they met up. The short dress-like sleeping garment that ended just below her butt.
"I see you are wearing the garment I choose for you."
Her smile grew, as she nodded taking a step back. She twirled a bit, before facing him again. "You like it on me?"
His eyes trace up and down her body landing specifically on her butt before she turned back to face him.
"It looks delicious on you, my little doe." Taking a stride towards her, he watches as she takes one back. his eyes narrow a slight bit, as he takes another stride towards her. Though she takes one back leaving the distance in between them. "What are you doing my little doe?" He speaks.
"Nothing." Her eyes look at him innocently.
Taking one more stride he watches as she tries to take one back, only to be stopped by the bed. Squealing her body falls back as Alastor pins her to the bed.
"Why are you running from me? I just want to taste you, my darling." Her cheeks burn red as she watches him take off his coat.
Can I request a Spencer Reid fic where reader is a total naive sweetheart who goes to Pilates and is always in pink and Spencer introduces her to the Bau and she just thinks the smallest details of a case are TERRIFYING and the entire team is like “how does this work” but Spencer is doting on her the whole time and they’re like “ahhh I see, savior complex”
Sorry it’s long! Feel free to change anything!!<333
Hi lovely, ty for the request! Hopefully, this is okay🥰warnings: fluff, use of pet names and y/n, mentions of going for a drink (0.6k)
It is by a pure chance, that you and Spencer meet his team. He bailed on going out to get drinks with them and instead went to pick you up from your pilates class with intent to take you out for a date night.
You walk (you are almost skipping as you go, too happy to see your Spence) hand in hand towards your apartment for you to change. Because it wouldn't be really appropriate for you to go to the restaurant in a pink working out set and especially with the pink yoga mat.
And that's when it happens, you turn around the corner and suddenly the whole team is in front of you. You would almost miss them, too focused on listening to Spencer, but he stops walking, making you avert your attention towards them.
"Oh Spence, is that your team?" you ask innocently, eyes very curious. You don't realise, that Spencer is going to be teased so much for hiding your relationship.
"Yes, it is, sweetheart," he says and he can do nothing else as the team immediately starts towards you, their eyes and mouths wide open.
"Hey guys," he greets them with a sigh.
"Well hello to you too, pretty boy," Derek says with a big smirk, "I thought, you were too tired to go out." Spencer knows he shouldn't have lied to them, but he wanted to go out with you too badly, not seeing you for a week.
"I'm sorry guys," he says, cheeks flushed pink.
"You should be," Penelope quips in and then eagerly adds," but introduce us and maybe you'll be forgiven."
Spencer sighs again, meanwhile you are smiling shyly at everybody, eyes big as you look at them.
"Everybody, this is y/n, my girlfriend," there's a loud gasp and Spencer is pretty sure, that it came from Penelope.
There's a moment of silence as Spencer's words sink in. Finally, Rossi, more mature then anyone else, sticks his hand out and introduces himself to you. Soon, the others recover and follow his lead.
"It's so nice to meet you guys, Spencer's told me so much about you. It's great to finally add the faces to your names," you tell them with a big big smile.
"It's nice to meet you too, but we would love to know about you beforehand," JJ says, looking pointedly at Spencer, to which he just rolls his eyes to.
"I'm sorry, I just didn't know how to bring it up," he explains, his hand scratching his neck.
"It's okay, we understand," Hotch, the other more mature one, assures him.
"How about you join us guys? You can tell us about how you guys met?" Penelope, the sweetheart she is, invites you for drinks.
"I don't know guys, y/n doesn't really like hearing anything about the work-"
"What? You guys will talk about the case?" you scrunch your face in distaste," I don't think we can join you then, I wouldn't be able to fall asleep for weeks." You look so scared, that it has the profilers worried for a second.
But Penelope saves the day, " no no no, don't worry. They aren't allowed to talk about it around me, I get enough nightmares from work as it is. I ,too, definitely don't want to hear any more details,"
"Really?" you ask with quiet voice, Spencer squeezes your hand in reassurance. Giving you a small smile.
"Really." There's a chorus of agreements from everybody else. To which a huge smile grows on your face, replacing the sad, scared one.
"Okay, great. I just need to go change, I live close from here. So we'll be back quickly," you say with excitement and before they can respond, you are out of there, dragging Spencer with you.
Leaving the team with confused faces and even more questions, about how does your relationship work with you being terrified to even hear a single thing about Spencer work and being like complete opposite to him.
heck it, here's a list of some cool indie horror games I played recently (with the worst descriptions you'll ever see!):
Sheepy: A Short Adventure - not actually a horror game but it's a very cute pixel platformer about a sheep plushie that's been brought to life, exploring some sort of facility. I love the visuals in this game and the music is fantastic (even gave me goosebumps at one point lmao). very relaxing to play (unless you suck at games like me, the game has some combat and the platforming gets a bit tricky later in the game jhgjhfh)
GO TO BED - "A short horror game about going to bed. Can you successfully pass each situation?" perhaps a slightly bizarre game, but at one point it got pretty scary for me, so if you're looking for a quick spook, maybe it'll work for you?
REPLAY - "After a long and busy day, you found this old looking game on your way home, it seems interesting so you take it with you." a pretty spooky game with a cool mechanic and nice jumpscares (which aren't excessive). I really enjoyed playing it
The Other One - "An innocent trip to the abandoned house for some urban exploration, ends in series of fearsome events." in the game you use camera recordings to explore a strange world. which for me is a pretty cool mechanic, I liked it.
Nextbot Graveyard - ahhh, nextbots. I am one of those people who is absolutely terrified of those little shits. I don't know why but nothing in games makes me piss myself more than Scary PNGs moving very quickly and chasing me. fucking hell. in the game you have to help one of the creatures find their children who are hiding in a graveyard. you locate them by using a radio and finding the right frequency to hear their calls. you will be interrupted by the scary motherfuckin faces (and also a frog and Maxwell the Cat)
MASKED DEVOURER - "You play as young blogger, who loves filming her careless travels in forgotten and forbidden places. She doesn't believe in mysticism and all sorts of superstitions, but one day, wandering into a strange Japanese city, she completely changes her mind..." you have to solve some puzzles to help a certain guy with a certain thing. a pretty fun game with a rather spooky monster, especially if you're scared of centipedes or insects in general. the way it chases you is pretty damn scary too (I hate being chased so much 😩 once the monster spots you it feels a little nextbot-like with its movements tbh. double the scares for me!)
We Never Left - "The year is 1983. You sit at home alone on a dark and stormy night until the ring of the phone pierces your ears. Answering, you hear a voice unfamiliar to you. The mysterious caller informs you with little urgency that your recluse game developer of a cousin has gone missing. All that was found of him was a note. Written inside was your contact information and a vague message: “FINISH THE GAME”." it's a combination of a walking simulator and a text based game (I think text based horror games can be really effective if done right). one of the characters is voiced by an anime voice actor (he sounds fucking fantastic and he voices one of my favorite anime characters, Sniper Mask, who is a massive hottie kdfjhgkjsd so you can imagine my massive surprise and excitement when I heard the guy)
HELLO!!! I just caught up to your fic "Demon Summoning & Other Neat Party Tricks" and I love it so far!!! I can not wait to learn more about Imogen's grandmother and what exactly brought her to hell! The abuse and all the bad things that are happening to Imogen is really well done, not to get too personal, but you've done a real good job in showing the innocence of Imogen and, although she kinda understands what is going on, she just let's it slide a lot because she's just used to it being her life. She doesn't fully understand what is going on and why but she's still so happy because that's just how a lot of kids are. Anyway!!! I'm so excited to see the rest of Imogens 10th birthday party! I hope she forgives Alastor soon but she has every right to be scared and I hope his ego allows him to apologize :'(
AHHH, HELLO!! ( ´ ▽ ` )/ I'm so glad you love the fic and are curious to learn more about Imogen's grandma. Nora Jean is definitely a character and that's all I can really say at this point. 🤣
Thank you very much! I really do try to handle the darker themes with a lot of time and care, so it means the world to me that you think it's well done. Part of what makes writing kids so tricky is because they *don't* see things the way adults do, but it's also what makes their voices so engaging and interesting to explore. I'm also very sorry you can relate to Imogen in that way, I hope you are doing okay and sending you a lot of warmth and happiness. *hugs*
And don't worry, I'm very soft for all of these characters and they will have their happiness eventually. (I'm also excited to get to Imogen's bday party!!) Thank you so much for reaching out!
the various -no-evils, and milky way for noa and nyth :)
Nyth is my husband's character! He will give me his proper answers and I will reblog this ask with his answers. (Omg he's so excited you are interested in Nyth!) This ask for is Noa Hidalgo Giovanni, my VTM Giovanni/Hecata OC! (Thank you!)
🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people? Noa Hidalgo Giovanni was raised with great care and craft to be a respectable member of the Giovanni clan, and when she is not taken seriously it drives her insane. She was also raised to be extremely well mannered, so showing off this petulant childish side is embarrassing. Even if justified, Noa cannot stand for people to see her complain about anything. It is essentially the personality of her Beast, a foot-stomping whiny child who points the finger at everyone else and blames them for her problems. She'd prefer to be taken seriously immediately - and for things to go her way - and she will hold back that petulant child at all costs... though a frenzy is bound to happen at some point. All this repression CAN'T be healthy.
🙊 SPEAK-NO-EVIL - what is something your oc will refuse to stay quiet about? Noa will not remain quiet when it comes to her capability. While she doesn't want to show off that whiny baby side, if there's a chance to prove herself she will attack it full force. She does not want to be handed greatness, she wants to earn it. It's simply the way she was taught.
🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worse thing your oc could hear from someone? Betrayal. To go back on promises, even innocently. Obviously everyone hates that, but Noa is very, very careful with who she builds her bonds with. To have anyone attempt to take advantage of them or to sever them completely, it is a death sentence in her eyes. She loves so hard, and she hates even harder, because she does BOTH so rarely.
🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them? I have always loved the Godfather and mafia oriented media - I'm a sucker for a well dressed man who is both polite and extremely violent, what can I say - so when I was invited to play VTM, I fell for the mafia clan immediately while researching. Noa was at first inspired by Instagram models and influencers because I thought about little mafia princesses and having a following... but she has changed SO much since then. It was a New York setting, so I imagined a mafia princess living at the top of her penthouse would have nothing better to do than to build a nice little following online... carefully of course. Always wear a blush of health before pictures! Now Noa is more inspired by classic mafia works, classical paintings of intense friendships, movies about revenge and finding liberation... all that jazz. Ahhh thank you for the ask! This is fun!
Thoughts on Jedi Apprentice 11: The Deadly Hunter
This one! THIS ONE!!!!! 8D I am so excited for this arc of the story! The Hidden Truth will probably always be my favorite, but after all the epic Xanatos stuff, these next three books are the best part of this series, in my opinion. Definitely some of the stuff that's stuck with me the most, even after all these years.
Let's dive in!
Chapter 2
We begin with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan landing on Coruscant after a series of missions. (Note that Obi-Wan is now fourteen. Since I'm pretty sure he was thirteen in the last book, and there was no mention of a birthday, and because they hitched a ride instead of using the ship King Frane gave them, I think we're supposed to understand that they've had other adventures in between.) Instead of going straight back to the Temple, Qui-Gon wants to stop by a cafe run by a friend of his.
The friend is Didi Oddo, who runs a tiny little hole-in-the-wall cafe that's seen better days. He's the kind of guy that seems to be friends with everybody, whether they're an upstanding citizen or a shady individual, and he doesn't hesitate to let those who are going through hard times eat for free, nor does he hesitate to coax more money out of those who are doing well. I'm not entirely sure why, because his description is just that he's a "small, round man with a melancholy face," but I always imagined him as a Little Person (though not his daughter, Astri). Couldn't tell you why, but my brain persists in imagining him that way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Regardless, I like him. He's a bit dramatic, especially when insisting how innocent he is despite being surrounded by criminals on all sides XD
But we're not just in for an ordinary friendly reunion. After a bit of small talk, Didi takes them into his office in the back, to beg Qui-Gon for help. A bounty hunter seems to be after him, and he has no idea why. He serves plenty of criminals, but he insists he isn't one himself (though he seems to be toeing the line a little bit, since he sometimes gambles and buys things on the black market :P). So he wants the Jedi to go find the bounty hunter and convince her that there's some kind of mistake. Qui-Gon agrees, though Obi-Wan doesn't think it's a good idea. It doesn't seem like any of their business.
"'Here is a man who seeks out criminals and the dregs of the galaxy in order to get information, which he then sells to the highest bidder. If you live in that sort of world, you deserve whatever bad luck comes your way. ... I don't understand why you're helping him,' Obi-Wan said, frustrated. Qui-Gon hesitated. Then he said, 'It's because he is my friend.'" - And here, once again, we see the interaction of a Gryffindor and a Slytherin ^_^
Chapter 3
"'This place doesn't look as if it provides a soft landing to me,' Obi-Wan observed, casting a dubious eye at the Soft Landings Inn. 'More like a full-scale crash.'" - Ahhh, this book is already off to a good start XD
The Jedi go to the inn where the bounty hunter is supposed to be staying. As Obi-Wan commented above, it's not exactly an upscale place :P Anyway, they locate the bounty hunter's room, and walk in to find her sitting there silently. She's a humanoid with a shaved head, and she has a whip that Didi told them about. They try talking to her, explaining that there must have been some kind of mistake, but she doesn't say a word. Instead, she suddenly attacks them with her whip, choking Obi-Wan and tripping him up, and cutting open Qui-Gon's shoulder. Besides just being a normal whip, it also has a laser mode. While they're still reacting to the sudden attack, she slips through the narrow opening of the window, her bones compressing so she can fit through the gap. Qui-Gon says this means she comes from the planet Sorrus.
Chapter 4
The Jedi return to the cafe and tell Didi what happened. After getting his wound patched up, Qui-Gon grills Didi to see why someone would send a bounty hunter after him. Obi-Wan suggests that instead of some sort of official warrant being issued, which would be unlikely for a simple cafe owner, maybe it was a private commission because of some piece of information sold to Didi that someone doesn't want to get out. Didi can't think of anything in particular, just a senator resigning and a gang called the Tech Raiders moving their headquarters. Neither seem like big enough pieces of information to kill someone over.
In the middle of the discussion, Didi's daughter Astri bustles in. She's kind of clumsy and preoccupied, and complains about how Didi complains every time she tries to do something to improve the cafe, particularly in terms of their sketchy clientele. In particular, she's proud of getting a famous philanthropic scientist, Jenna Zan Arbor, to book their cafe for a medical conference. (This will be very important later!) I like Astri. She makes for a fun dynamic with Didi as they banter back and forth. I keep on wanting to call her Astrid, though I don't remember ever having that problem when reading these books before....
This moment gave me a chuckle: Qui-Gon: "Besides, it will give you a chance to see the seamier side of Coruscant." Obi-Wan: "Just what I always wanted."
Chapter 5
The first step is to track down Fligh, the informant who sold Didi those pieces of information. I like Fligh; he's fun in a scoundrelly-but-mostly-harmless way. He's also a total coward and pushover who is easily convinced to talk because he's intimidated by the Jedi and because Didi has been kind to him in the past.
Fligh: "How else does one survive on Coruscant?" Qui-Gon: "One could get a job." Fligh: "One could, if one were a different being. However, one is not."
Ultimately, they don't learn anything that seems particularly significant from Fligh. He heard about the Tech Raiders from their representative on Coruscant, and he learned about the senator resigning from an official memo that made it to his hands.
They stop by the office of Senator Uta S'orn, the one who is resigning, and let her know that her resignation has leaked. She seems genuinely surprised and distressed by this news, because of how it might affect support for some legislation she's going to introduce. It seems unlikely that she would have put a price on Didi's head, and even though now they've learned that Fligh must have stolen her data pad, since she lost it and that's where her announcement was saved, that doesn't necessarily mean much. Fligh could have just not wanted to admit to stealing something like that directly to the Jedi's faces.
Chapter 6
The Jedi track down Helb, the Tech Raiders' representative, in a bar. But it seems like a dead end, because Helb intentionally told Fligh about their new location so that word would get out and people could find them, like free advertising under the radar. Fligh owes the Tech Raiders a lot of money, but they have no reason to want to kill Didi.
As they're leaving the bar, Obi-Wan spots the bounty hunter again, watching them and wearing a disguise that makes her look like an old man. Unfortunately, she gets away before they can catch her.
Chapter 8
When they return to Didi's cafe to update him, they find Astri bustling about in a near-panic, preparing for the important meal for Jenna Zan Arbor. The Jedi go to talk to Didi as the guests begin to arrive...only to hear that Fligh has been killed.
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan go to investigate Fligh's murder, telling Didi to stay in the cafe where it's safe. They don't learn much at the scene of the crime about who did it, but they do pick up on an intriguing clue: Fligh has been strangled with some kind of cord, and all of the blood has been drained from his body before it was dumped in an alley.
(Side note: I just remembered that this precise scene was when I learned the word pallor. Don't let anyone tell you Star Wars isn't educational! XD)
"'Do you ever get used to death?' Obi-Wan asked. 'No,' Qui-Gon said. 'That is how it should be.'" - It can be easy to forget just how young Obi-Wan is in these books, because of how much more competent he is than your average fourteen-year-old, but Qui-Gon doesn't. He has Obi-Wan stand back so he won't see the gruesome sight of Fligh's body, and he checks to make sure Obi-Wan's okay afterward. I love that, even though he's seen so much by this point, Obi-Wan is still affected by death, and Qui-Gon protects him from the trauma of it as much as possible.
Chapter 9
When the Jedi return to Didi's cafe, they find it suspiciously dark and quiet. Warily, they go in to find that all the guests are gone, and there's a mess in the kitchen and Didi's office, like someone ransacked the place looking for something. They rush upstairs to the living quarters, only to find the bounty hunter waiting for them there, having knocked Astri out and tied up Didi with her whip. After a short fight, the bounty hunter escapes yet again. Qui-Gon recommends that they leave Coruscant and go into hiding, and Didi decides to go to a house he owns in the mountains on a nearby planet. He's never been there before, because he just recently won it in a game of sabacc, but it's so remote it should be relatively safe.
The chapter is fairly ominous and action-oriented, but this moment of banter was fun: Didi: "I might--ah--have gotten myself in a tiny spot of trouble. Nothing serious." Astri: "Sure. This isn't serious. Just another ordinary evening in the cafe. I get knocked out on a regular basis."
Chapter 11
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan finally go to the Temple. Obi-Wan, poor kid, finally gets something to eat while Qui-Gon meets with Yoda and Tahl to update them on the situation. When she hears about the manner of Fligh's death and that he stole Senator S'orn's data pad, Tahl connects it to Senator S'orn's son Ren (what a choice of name!), who was Force-sensitive. But Senator S'orn didn't want to give Ren up to the Temple, so he was never trained and eventually wandered off to find himself. Six months ago, he was killed--by strangulation, and his blood was drained!
I really like this bit that Qui-Gon says to Obi-Wan: "You are too hard on yourself, Padawan. That can become a fault if you are not careful, for anger at oneself is a destructive thing. Every living being can be impatient, can turn away at a first glance, can avoid getting involved. It is a natural impulse. We are all creatures who want peace and comfort. Yet we are Jedi. Our own peace and comfort is not what drives us. We are dedicated to a larger good. But always remember that the peace and comfort of just one being is what drives us, too."
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan go to see Senator S'orn again. She admits that the reason she's resigning is her preoccupation and grief since her son died. She also mentions that her friend's data pad was stolen at the same time, when Fligh overheard them talking about trying to find a good cafe to host a meal and recommended Didi's cafe. And guess who that friend was? Jenna Zan Arbor!
Chapter 13
Obviously the next thread to follow is to talk to Jenna Zan Arbor. They go to her room in a luxurious hotel and investigate her possible connections to what's going on. She didn't report the theft of her data pad because she had backups of everything on it, and it wasn't sensitive personal information like what was on Senator S'orn's. They find out from her that the legislation the senator hasn't been able to push through because of her premature resignation had to do with creating a coalition against a black market tech gang - obviously, the Tech Raiders!
On their way back to the Temple to get some sleep, the bounty hunter shows up again, this time disguised as one of the hotel's valets. She manages to push Obi-Wan over the side of a railing, and he almost goes kersplat on the ground far below, but he manages to catch himself with his cable and climb back up. This is interestingly similar to what he does in Episode II in his fight with Jango Fett....
The next day, they track down Helb at the Tech Raiders' base on Vandor-3, a nearby planet. When they confront him, Helb admits that he hired Fligh to steal Senator S'orn's data pad, but he flatly denies putting a mark on Fligh's head; he's too useful. But then Helb lets slip that both he and Fligh lost a sabacc game to Didi the other day, and Helb is the one who gave the house to Didi to pay off his debt. And where did he get that house? From a mysterious old man he met in the tavern the same day the Jedi first spoke to him. Uh-oh....
Chapter 14
"'Have you ever used a blaster before, Astri?' Qui-Gon asked cautiously. 'How hard could it be?' Astri said. 'Point and shoot. Easy as making a meal.' After having seen her kitchen, Qui-Gon was not sure he trusted her shooting." - XD
Thankfully, the Jedi get to the "safehouse" soon enough to find Didi and Astri are completely safe. As they explain the situation, Astri admits that she paid Fligh to pass along tips for who might be a high-paying customer to drum up business. She also lets slip that Fligh actually gave her Jenna Zan Arbor's data pad for safekeeping, not telling her where he got it. She'd stuffed it in a broken oven and forgotten about it until they left to come here, but took it with her because her own data pad was broken. All the information on it is encoded, but Qui-Gon sends it to Tahl to decode it.
Just when they're about to head out to somewhere safer, Didi mentions that there's a caretaker, an old woman who comes by once a day with provisions. And there's only one person that could be....
Chapter 16
EEEEEK, the exciting conclusion!!!! 8D The bounty hunter turns up and attacks them, and an exciting battle commences! They manage to get up to the second floor of the house and out a window to the landing platform, but discover that both of their transports have been disabled. As the bounty hunter comes after them, Obi-Wan spots her cruiser down the mountainside, and they head in that direction. The bounty hunter basically sleds down the mountain on her back, getting to the transport before they can get to it in all the snow, and heading them off. She shoots Didi and grabs Astri with her whip, pulling her in and grabbing the data pad from her. Obi-Wan pulls off some really stunning moves in the fight, but Qui-Gon tells him to help Didi and Astri while he goes after the bounty hunter. He jumps into her cruiser as she's taking off, and then, the last thing Obi-Wan sees: Qui-Gon is shot and falls into the cruiser. The bounty hunter's ship flies off for parts unknown.
"Had Qui-Gon been captured by the bounty hunter, or had he captured her? Was he mortally wounded? Was he alive--or dead? The anguish of not knowing made Obi-Wan want to crash to his knees. But there were wounded he had to care for. Qui-Gon had told him to stay. 'Don't lose heart, Qui-Gon,' he whispered. 'I'll find you. Hold on.' He would find a way to bring back his Master." - And we have to leave it there until the next book! Worst cliffhanger EVER! D:
#star wars#jedi apprentice#the deadly hunter#qui-gon jinn#obi-wan kenobi#the mystery in this one is really intricate and engaging#and the next book...ohoho BOY do I remember the next one >:)
@zablife thank you so much for another amazing reblog, full of wonderful comments, Lee ❤️!
He's a slut. I agree 😂. I'm stealing this for a future chapter..."sweet summer child"! I can see Grannie saying this to her during a heart to heart ❤️. He definitely knew she could hear 😂. I think his sole purpose was to make her jealous or give her a taste of what she could be enjoying 😉. Because if there is one thing Tommy is particularly skilled in, it's what he does under the sheets!
"Poor little rich girl" I'm a thief, Lee. I stole this one too 🤭. You did mention it in the first chapter, and I wanted to use it in this one so I noted it down. Eh, voila 😂!
Exactly! She doesn't really mop around, feeling sorry for herself. She battles through, so it's hard to remember just how dire her circumstances actually are. 😂, yeh Charlie wasn't getting involved in that! Although, I think Tommy could do with some back up when dealing with her sometimes 🤭.
Ahhh 🥰! I'm so happy you loved their interaction in the bedroom. Their back and forth banter/bickering is my favourite thing to write in this series. I think I just love pissing Tommy off with her antics 😂.
Yep, Grannie is not so innocent! I will delve a little bit more into her past. And the big secret she wants to keep hidden 🤭. Frances is Grannies watchful eye, she knows what's up with them too 😉.
I wasn't sure if it was too soon. I only plan on around seven chapters for this series, so they need to get moving 😂. I'm so relieved you enjoyed this part though, and Tommy's thoughtful gesture, even if they couldn't help but argue here and there!
Yay!! I'm so happy you thought that at first! It was definitely my intention to have the reader think Tommy was going to do something else. Or even that it was Cal who showed up at the funeral. But no, our beautiful blue eyed darling turned up in support instead 😍.
What indeed 🤔😈. It's the day of the ball in the next chapter, so you'll soon find out! Thank you again for your exciting review of this chapter! You always make my day hun 😘.
He can't come. No. Absolutely not! Why did he even agree to it? What was he up to? your nagging brain bugged you with a deluge of questions about Tommy's unexpected acceptance of invitation to your engagement ball as you tossed in your bed, kicking the white linen covers tangled around your legs with a huff. Had he caught on to your plan? Was he going to...sabotage it? your eyes flew open as you bolted up, your head quickly snapping to the wall behind you and the squatter that dwelled in the room next to yours.
That bastard, your burning eyes narrowed in on the empty ivory wall, accusing him of a multitude of misgivings your tired weary brain had concocted up. Now it was you, who was lacking in sleep.
For just as you had refused the blue-eyed trespasser little rest with your impromptu morning wake-up calls. Tommy had been quick to return the favor, when during the late hours of last night, he had invited a guest to his room. Keeping you up with her incessant moaning, begging and whatever other ungodly noises he had coaxed from her.
He did it on purpose, you convinced your frazzled brain as you glared at the wall and the scuff marks from your furious banging that seemed to only have spurred on his loud antics. But as Arrow Houses' bustling life entered your ears, dulling out your frantic thoughts, your body slumped down to sit at the end of the bed in a heap. The anger you had felt for the entirety of the night as you plotted your next retaliation, rapidly seeping from you as a sudden wave of exhaustion settled above your shoulders, weighing them down with further despair as you watched the fluttering shadows of the large oak tree outside your bedroom window dance across your paneled flooring.
How many more years would you keep this act up for? That you could battle through anything, with only witty comebacks to hide behind? You could feel your facade slipping day by day. And in the quieter moments of your life where you found yourself alone with your thoughts, you would remove your mask and find the vulnerable girl scared of not only the future, but the next hour staring intently back at you.
The lack luster you felt for the life you had been born into, had started to feel as foreign as the many Latin books your governess would have you learn in your dreary years of schooling. Mr Shelby's presence only making your feelings ever the more poignant
For as much as his appearance into your life had conjured up a fury enough to match that of Grannie's short temper, he had also brought excitement. And after the previous nights' relentless noise, jealously. Jealousy for the sounds of pleasure you yourself had never experienced. For the love you assumed they shared.
Is this what you were destined for, a life of service to your awaiting husband? Seen not heard, like an unwanted child? Forever chained to his wealth, but penniless? Violently rutted into like an animal at his will? you thought to yourself as your absent stare, welled with tears blinked through your soft sobs. Suddenly it seemed easier to wear the mask after all. Rather that than face your potential future and the tormenting hope you still held out for that the deeds to Arrow House would return in your favor.
Poor little rich girl, they would surely call you when everything came to light, when the scandal broke and the gossiping began. And with your lack of funds to give yourself a life of meaning. Those words couldn't be truer.
"On the left. No, to the left, Curly. Bleeding Christ man!" you heard the raspy voice from outside your room as you rubbed the tears from your eyes, when a loud thud to your door had you racing for its glossy brass handle.
" What...what on earth have you done to my wall?" you frowned upon seeing two men outside your bedroom with a stack of boxes between them and a large dent in your once immaculately painted hallway.
" Moving this junk to the attic" the tallest with a peak cap and a burning cigarette between his lips spoke as he picked up the hefty box in his arms.
So you were the posh girl that Tommy had been burning his ears with every bloody day after work. Same girl he wouldn't stop ranting and raving about until last orders at the Garrison, he thought to himself as he squinted at you through the fumes of tobacco drifting between you both. Infatuation for a pretty face, and a stubborn enough will to match his own, more like.
" Not junk, Charlie. Get a pretty price down market for this" the other eagerly replied as he pulled out a pair of ladies' hair rollers and a bundle of weathered ballet programs.
"Shut up, Curly" his friend replied, notioning with his head to the end of the hallway, when you stopped him and began rummaging through the contents in his hands.
" Junk! JUNK!" You shouted, grabbing the dusty box of your mother's belongings from his arms as his brow furrowed at your erratic reaction, now frantically pulling all the remaining boxes into your safeguard.
" Who told you to..." you stopped yourself, as your hand came to your sweaty forehead and an agape smile of both disbelief and annoyance appeared on your reddening face as the only culprit capable came to mind. "Him right?! The squatter?!" You pointed to Tommy's door as your hardened stare flew to the two men staring back at the unlikely image of a woman that had spent most of her life learning her P's and Q's, waving her finger around maniacally like a mad woman with wild frazzled hair.
" That's it. That, is, it!" you shouted as you stormed the few feet to his bedroom door, your marching arms making a strong enough point to your two bystanders just how furious you were.
" Better warn Tom, Charlie" Curly leaned quietly into him as he watched you begin to pound on the door with angry fist's
" Nout we can do for him now. Best leave 'em to it" he replied, pinching his cigarette between his fingers from his lips as he turned down to the stairs. "Curly!" he called after his giddy friend as your once perfectly primed patience lost its ability to wait any longer, and you threw open his door.
" Fucking hell, here she comes" Tommy mumbled, turning his head to see you charging towards him with a face like thunder.
" Get up. Get up!" you screeched at him and the stranger sleeping beside him as he reached to light a cigarette before you pulled the covers from his body without any caution as to exactly how much clothing he was wearing.
With a gasp of shock from you, and a horrified scream from the woman beside him, you quickly span around with blushing cheeks from the image of Birmingham's most notorious gangster as naked as the day he was born. Oh dear. You may have taken it a little too far this time.
"What the fuck! Crazy bitch!" the stranger who had spent the night with him bellowed aloud as she leaped from the bed, scrambling for her clothes.
" I'm ever so..." you began to apologise to the woman who shut you up in one quick scornful glare, waiting by Tommy with her hand out as your curious eyes darted subtly to the side to see the exchange of money for her services. So you had been wrong. They were not lovers. At least, not in the sense you thought, your mind quizzed you as to who exactly had been servicing who last night with the sounds of her moans of ecstasy still ringing in your ears.
" Learn to knock" the woman spat, pushing past your shoulder with a thud as she sauntered from the room.
" Mr Shelby..." you said at the sound of the door closing when Tommy stopped you from not only giving him his daily telling off, but from your flushed face from turning around.
" Unless you want another look, sweetheart. I'd stay put until I put some clothes on" Tommy said with a smirk, practically seeing your rolling eyes of irritation from the back of your head.
" I do not" your heated cheeks huffed impatiently as you let the weight of your annoyance sit on your hip cocked to one side. Something Tommy had no shame in enjoying the view of as he pulled up his trousers, purposely taking his time to button them up to get a better look at your nightie draped over the curves of your waist.
"Are you decent?" "Yes" he mumbled through the cigarette now clasped between his lips as he ignited the orange glow, pulling his eyes away from the plump bum in front of him.
Spinning around, ready to give him a piece of your mind, and if he wasn't careful, a blow to his perfectly chiseled jaw. You came face to face with not a fully clothed man, but one only partially dressed.
Decent, you huffed to yourself in annoyance at his inability to dress correctly in front of company, as your lingering eyes that seemed to have garnered a brain of their own lately, glanced over his strong form and the various inked tattoos across his torso.
"Y/N?" Tommy broke the brief silence with a grin, blowing out a cloud of smoke as his own eyes raked over your less than modest clothing. Sheer enough to see the beckoning shadow of your...
" Do you possess anything other than a pair of trousers, Mr Shelby? A shirt perhaps?" You frowned, scrambling away from your heated thoughts about the half naked man in front of you.
" It's summer, Y/N. And hot " Tommy replied nonchalantly as he stubbed his cigarette out on the metal knob of the bed frame, earning him another scornful glare.
" Hm, really? I thought you looked rather cold" you smirked, looking down at his suited trousers as Tommy cocked a brow, and audibly loud scoff at your snarky remark that he was not as endowed as his enormously large ego simultaneously left his lips.
" I think you're the one that's cold, love" Tommy nodded down at the thin fabric loosely shielding your modesty. The open window and summer morning breeze drifting through, resulting in an embarrassing pointy display. Or that's what you told yourself, and not the result of your eyes falling upon the sizable manhood you had just insulted.
" Go on then. Tell me what I've done now, ey?" Tommy asked, perching himself up against the bedroom dresser as he watched you stomp towards him with a knitted blanket now guarding your revealing sleep wear, and a ferocious frown to match it. A frown he had begun to find a small, endearing charm for. His very own personalised greeting you welcomed him each morning with as you barged into either his office or bedroom.
" You may have commandeered my office, Mr Shelby. Crammed it full of your ghastly sense of decor. Taken over half of my house. But nothing, nothing gives you the right to move those boxes" your lip quivered with fury at the thought of your mother's memory being banished to the attic in the house she had died in, when ill health prematurely took her from you.
" Boxes, love. Nothing to get your knickers in a twist over. If you were wearing any that was, his intrusive thoughts about what lay beyond your night gown entered his brain as he cleared his throat. "They were collecting dust. Damp with water "
" Boxes to you, Mr Shelby" you replied, hiding the pang of guilt now sitting in your stomach for the care he had shown for them and not that of your own, having been so caught up in your life's recent events to notice your mother's possessions slowly spoiling.
" Y/N" he grabbed hold of your arm, realising they held more meaning than what you was willing to let on as you tried to escape him from seeing your rapidly mounting embarrassment, and misplaced emotions." They were sitting in water, love" he marched after you as you shrugged off his hand. " Had them moved to the attic until the leak was fixed" he called out, following behind your plodding steps down the stairs as your Grannie watched in the foyer, waiting for the morning tea you had arranged with her to finalise the last details of you father's funeral set to take place the following day.
" Not talking to me now, eh?"
" No I'm not" you turned around, abruptly coming to a sudden stop. " I wouldn't even have to entertain the thought of talking to you if you would just leave my house and stop being so stubborn!" You bellowed, using the occasion to push him to vacate your home.
" I'm stubborn?" Tommy scoffed pointing at himself as your Grannie watched the half clothed conflict with widening eyes, steadying her racing imagination with her cane firmly adhered to the marble flooring.
Oh dear lord, he had corrupted your innocent nobility. A backstreet criminal! Grannie's brain whirled dramatically in horror at history repeating itself. Her own history, that was. Filled with unsavory secrets she had done her upmost to not see the light of day until she herself was firmly six feet under to avoid the scandal it would create among high society.
" Darling, you're the one having the tantrum" he said following after your stomping feet as you continued your decent down the stairs, ignoring his remarks before you launched something at his head, and the last of your taught lady like manners along with it.
" Annie" you said coming to a stop in front of one of the youngest maids under your employment as Tommy loomed beside you, the unfinished argument and continued half-assed silent treatment only grating on him further. " Please tell the cook to prepare chicken for lunch" you smiled to her as you turned to leave, only to walk into the blue-eyed barrier right behind you.
" Mutton, Annie" Tommy corrected your dinner orders as you stood mere inches from his muscular, sweaty frame. So close, you could see the follicles of the graying tuft of hair on his firm chest and that of him armpits as he waved his arm about.
" Excuse me, but no. No we won't be having "mutton" "you did your upmost to mirror his deep brummie lilt, replicating the heavy grovel of his accent with as much flare as you could as Tommy's arching brow looked down at you.
" Chicken, Annie. Please" you span back around, only for Tommy to interrupt your dinner suggestion a second time as the young worker and your Gran watched your bickering recommence with darting eyes.
" Shut up! Shut up!" Annie blurted out with scrunched eyes when her hand flew to her mouth as her outburst caught up with her frazzled thinking
" Annie" you gasped in surprise, when both a giggle from you and a low chuckle for the trespasser behind you followed. Mutually finding amusement in the usually composed maids' sudden scolding of you both as your Grannies hand flew to her chest in horror for the disorder of things you two had created in such a small amount of time.
" Oh god. Please don't fire me, or...or shoot my knee caps off" the young maid panicked as Frances rushed to bring things back to a status quo, ushering the jittery member of staff away before an ambulance was called for your Gran, who was now frantically fanning the dizzying distress on her face.
" I'll ask the cook to prepare both chicken and mutton. Can you both agree on that? " Frances looked between you both with raised brows as a mother would her unruly offspring, trying to keep the peace in her chaotic home free from the constant bickering of two strong-headed children.
" Fine" you both said in unison before going your separate ways, having been reprimanded by your housekeeper. Both of your abilities to rile the other up in an exceptional amount of time, simmering for a brief moment for the rest of the household to take a well-earned breather from your back and forth demands.
" Frances, dear" your Grannie beckoned your loyal housekeeper quietly to her."Tell me" she said, holding onto her arm with her frail hands as she leaned in. " How long has it been since war was declared?" she queried, pressed to puzzle through what she feared was truly behind both of your dramatic disdain for the other. For nothing could get past Grannie's keen eye, and knack for discovering the truth.
" Ever since Mr Shelby shot Miss Y/N's piano, Mam. I'm starting to believe they're enjoying it" Frances sighed as your Gran nodded her head in agreement, fearing you had inherited the same taste in men she herself found her younger years in a pickle with after a dally with a man from Digbeth she'd sneak out to see every night.
" It seems so, Frances. It seems so..."
" Get changed" Tommy ordered you as he swung your bedroom door open later that day, rummaging through your wardrobe, then throwing one of your many evening dresses into your lap as you read quietly in the corner by a small lamp.
" I will not" You scoffed as your eyes darted up to see him motioning with his hand to do as you were told as if it was the norm between you both to just barge through someone's bedroom
" Come on. Chop, chop" he said, cupping the domes of his palms around the flame at the end of his cigarette.
What did he want to do, watch? Not that you would do anything he says, you huffed with your brows raised as you returned to your book, neither questioning nor entertaining what exactly it was you had to change for.
Well, you hadn't told him to leave. That was a start. Did you want him to stay and watch? Tommy's mischievous eyes perked up as a playful smirk etched on the corner of his plump lips.
" Y/N" he said, snapping the book close between your fingers with a grin. Gaining your attention and a knitted frown firmly sat on your brow.
" What do you want?" You pouted, placing your book to the side as he loomed next to you. Awfully close next to you. A red cheek inducing closeness that your eye level met with not his insufferable cocky face but, halfway down his body to his buckled belt.
" Think of it as my way of saying I was...wrong" he said, removing two neatly pressed pieces of paper from within his jacket." This time" he pointed to you before your triumphant smile grew any bigger as he handed them to you.
Since your blazing row earlier that morning, Tommy had made a point to understand what exactly had you so riled up over a few boxes. So, after making a beeline for the attic, and to the items in question that had you barge into his room. He quickly came to the sudden realisation of what caused your unexpected emotional outburst when he pulled out a bundle of aged ballet tickets crayoned with hearts and flowers in your younger self's name and that of the former lady of Arrow House. The keepsakes of precious memories spent together buried within many trinkets and cherished belongings. Your mother's belongings. Shit.
" Ballet?" You looked up at him with a quizzical brow. " Didn't think you the type"
"No. But you are. How longs it been since you last went to Royal Theater, eh?"
"Many... many years" you said absently turning them in your hand as a yearning to relive your childhood years panged in your tightening chest and the olive branch of peace he had offered you
" And if I decline what will you do? Shoot me?" You quirked a brow as Tommy's lips tightened together with a smirk.
" I've shot people for a lot less, love" he said shoving his spare hand in his pocket as he took a drag from his cigarette with a smile.
"Be ready in an hour" he turned to leave, not giving you any further opportunities to decline his offer. " And if you behave yourself, I might even treat you to a packet of sweets " he called out before shutting the door as you looked down at the tickets in your hand, the inner child in you excitedly biting your bottom lip as a wave of gratefulness for his thoughtful gesture warmed your heart. Not that you would tell him of course, you smiled to yourself as you mischievously planned to delay your readiness by thirty minutes. Just so things were clear, that you were still furiously irritated by his presence. Wasn't you?
After a short drive into town and a bickering match over the quickest route to the theater. You managed to take your seats in the renowned function room without killing each other, with a brown paper bag of lemon drops in your hand promised to you by Tommy on route if you would just give his ears a rest for five minutes.
" 'ere" he beckoned his hand out for one of the boiled treats he had already helped himself to half of as you shoved them into his awaiting hand, succumbing to the fact that he had infact, brought them for himself.
As the lights dimmed, you shot your unwelcome houseguest a stern look of disapproval at his rummaging hands noisily wading through the small packet of sweets. His rolling eyes taking one last lemon treat before folding them into his suit jacket. Since when did he start listening to your bossy demands?
As Tommy quietly sat back in the comfort of his crimson chair, you couldn't have been further off the edge of yours as your hands rested on the balcony edge, watching each pirouette in front of your eyes as the lulling tune of Pas De Deux's strumming harp prickled your skin with each delightful note.
Mesmerised by the graceful dance, a sudden wave of your childhood memories came hurtling towards you, taking you aback with the emotional rippling tides of times spent that came with them.
As you stayed silently captured by the elegant twirling in front of you, Tommy's eyes flicked back and forth towards your glistening stare as you gasped at the male leader throwing the ballerina into the air, then capturing her in his arms before spinning her in his hand.
And there it came, rushing towards him. His own sudden gentle wave in the sea of peaceful music of violins vibrating through his chest and quickening heart, captivating him as it did during your very first encounter. Holding his full and undivided attention as he sat silently in the shadow of the candelabras casting their orange glow around the beauty before him.
The most annoying, most irritating, strong-willed stubborn woman he'd ever laid eyes upon. The same woman he had tried his upmost to ignore the yearning her beauty had coaxed from him every waking hour. You. Insufferable you.
" I want to thank you, Mr Shelby" you said after returning from the evening of graceful dancing, unaware of Tommy's heavy breath following your every move. The two hours he had spent watching you as your gaze stayed distracted by the nimble-footed dancers whilst he took advantage of the peaceful moment of silence between you both to take in the delicate details of your beauty. The soft feather-like batting of your fluttering lashes, the way your skin puckered with a dusting of goosebumps as the drums boomed throughout the theater, your wetted lips glistening in the light of the soft glow of the candles surrounding you.
Fuck. What was happening to him? You were the biggest pain in the ass he'd ever encountered. Wars with rivaling gangsters were a breeze compared to the daily headache you gave him, he thought to himself as he slowly trekked up the stairs behind you, lingering out his goodbyes for the evening.
" For what?" He questioned you as he came to a stop with you outside your adjoining rooms, yearning to see the peacefulness you had let him glimpse at earlier in the evening that took his breath away.
" For tonight. For letting me forget everything" you replied as you darted your eyes to and from his piercing stare boring into you.
"It was my pleasure" his gravely voice tapered off as you waited on him with a small frown at his sudden lack of snarky remarks. "Y/N, I..." Tommy softly added as your doe eyes and plush lips beckoned his rising hand closer before you turned your head away, unaware of his approaching touch that had already swiftly found its way back home to his side with a sigh.
" I should get some rest. My father's funeral is tomorrow at nine" you said, brushing an escaping lock of hair from your neatly pinned tresses as you watched the knot of frustration bob up and down in his neck.
" Right" he cleared his throat as he stepped back, suddenly feeling like a shy schoolboy with a one-sided crush. Was it one-sided?
" Thankfully, it will only be a small ceremony. Just close family. Me, my gran and brother. My father seemed to have burned all bridges with everyone else he knew. Not that I blame them" you exhaled with a small laugh, babbling through your nervousness and the shift away from the constant arguing you had both become accustomed to, absent from your date. Date. Was it a date?
" Your fiance won't be accompanying you? Tommy questioned with a furrowed brow as he watched your hand clasp around the polished door handle as you shook your head.
" He has business to attend to" you replied, as his confusion about your defense of Cal's priorities began to grate on him until he could no longer withhold his opinion on exactly what he thought of Earl Astor and his heavy hand.
" Doesn't sound like the actions of a man about to marry the love of his life" Tommy scoffed as you swallowed back the reality of your loveless circumstances and how true his words were.
" It's complicated. He's complicated" you did it again, without thought. Was you trying to keep up the act, or were you trying to find reasoning for why you gave him so much say in your life?
" He's certainly something" Tommy said as he looked to your bruised wrist, your weighted bracelet having unveiled the blotchy marks as you rested your hand on the knob of the door.
" It's not what you think. You wouldn't understand" you said, quickly covering the blackening marks of violence stained on your soft skin.
" I think I understand perfectly, love" Tommy's brow raised, as he watched your irritation for the truth he was laying bare simmer under your tightening jaw." There's no difference in class when it comes to a man that lays his hand on a woman. The only question I have is why, Y/N? Why does a woman so bloody strong headed, so..." Tommy stopped himself with a sigh at your furrowing brow and scrunched nose in response to his less than flattering remark as his patience grew thin for your acceptance of fate. "so...smart" he said, as his eyes drifted to your blushing cheeks and batting eyes looking up at him. " Let a man like that bastard ruin her beauty and spirit?" he finished, holding your gaze as a silence settled above you both. Tommy's compliments and truthful words of reality embedding themselves into your spinning thoughts.
" Because I have no choice, Mr Shelby " you said, stiffening your bottom lip, stifling both your mounting emotions and threatening tears from escaping.
How could he possibly understand the plights of a woman's life? The pressure engraved into you from early childhood to find a husband and bare his children before you turned into a barren spinster. To be locked away in embarrassment in the darkest room of your family's home, for the future you didn't provide to further their finances and noble name.
Withstand, endure. And if you were lucky, flee from the life you were born in to until that darkened dusty room took it for you.
" Goodnight Mr Shelby" you flatly bid your goodbyes as you opened your bedroom door. Holding onto your sobs until the click of the handle safely shut you away from his watchful eye and you was able to release the sorrow you felt for your almost inescapable future.
" Goodnight"
When the following morning came around, Tommy sat quietly in his Watery Lane office, mulling over the previous night's events and your parting words as he stared absently out the weathered glassed window, listening to the bustling life of Small Heath awake. As the hand of his gold pocket watch struck nine, Tommy rose from his leather seat, striding over to his hat and jacket.
" Tommy, Johnny wants to know where to dump the latest shipment" Arthur sniffed as he pushed the door open with a folder of papers under his arm. "Tom?" He said as he watched his brother adjust his peaked cap on his head, checking the hour of his watch for a second time.
"Sort it out. I've somewhere to be" Tommy replied, as he tucked his gold trinket back Into to the safety of his waistcoat.
" Where?" Arthur called out with a huff, dropping the files of papers onto the mounting stack on Tommy's desk that had yet to be signed.
"Somewhere important"
Stood by the open grave of your father, with your grandmother and brother opposite you and the freshly dug hole. The priest waited with sighing breath at the sorrowful lack of attendees at the service he was set to give.
" Shall we begin?" he looked up to the only three remaining family members before opening his book of prayers.
" Dearly beloved, we gather here today to..." His voice trailed off into silence as your blinking eyes filled with tears looked down at the coffin of your father feet from you when the distinct smell of burnt tobacco and sharp notes of whisky filled your senses, the warmth of his arm pressing into yours as he settled his position next to you.
" We lay our servants' body to rest. That he can..." The priest continued as you turned to look up at the smartly dressed man beside you.
" You came, why?" You quietly sobbed as tears trickled down the curves of your cheeks, a fleeting frown of surprise creasing the soft flesh between your brow at his unexpected appearance.
" To pay my respects" Tommy replied as he looked down at you, and the small smile of gratitude whispering back to him silent thank yous.
" Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..." The priest prayed as your father's coffin was slowly lowered into the ground, and your grandmother's weeping for her only child broke through the silence of the graveyard as your brother held her frail body steady against his own.
As the thud of the coffin hit the bottom of its final resting place, a sudden sob of pain escaped your throat as you stood afar from the comforting arms of your grandmother and brother. That was until your own subtle gesture of comfort was felt when the calloused pads of someone's hand brushed soothingly along your knuckles. The same hand of the man that had shown you more sympathy, more care and attentiveness than you had ever received from your supposed future partner in life.
Mr Shelby. Tommy.
Hi! It's me the Finn anon again! First! Yes I totally hope it's just a glitch! I don't think you'd be shadowbanned because I can still see all your posts and find your blogs so that's good! Also I'm gonna be honest I'm not completely sure what the "grace Stan threats" mean (I may not be caught up on it) but I can maybe guess and if it mean what I think it means I'm sorry about it! That sucks and some people need to learn to grow up instead of making threats!
Second, oohhhh at least two more parts!!! Ahhh I'm so excited ❤️❤️ I'm ready to see Michael break his ass trying to make amends! Also because I realised that you said the Shelby family is still unsure if they could trust the reader or not after the lies about her from her "mother" painting her as untrustworthy! And idk if the family knew how the reader was connected to Mike before they heard those lies or if they just thought the woman was b*tching about her random daughter. But like if Michael DID know who the woman was referring to when saying the lies, I want him to grovel even more, like I want this man to almost cry realising how badly he hurt the reader and their adoptive parents!!! BECAUSE IF THIS MAN IS JUST GONNA SIT THERE WHILE SOMEONE BASHES HIS LITTLE SISTER!!!!!! Even if he did want to forget his adopted family he could have at least had the common decency to defend their character, because all they ever did was love him!! He may not want to live that life anymore, but he could at least have grown to balls to say they weren't the worst people in the world and maybe his adoptive sister was good! Oh oh!! And if he did know that the Shelby institute was apart of taking the reader back away from her mama and papa and putting her back with her "mother"!!!! Like if he really did grow up with her all this time and he was her brother and they were so close, surely the reader may have confided in him about her birth mom! Like as kids when she was scared and had nightmares of her old life, surely she'd go and find comfort in her big brother and tell him what happened and he'd promise to protect her! But for him to like possibly hear the reader was sent back to her birth mom because of the Shelby foundation, knowing how bad her birth mom was and how good his foster parents were and then DO NOTHING!!!! Ahhhhh, Michael I can't even begin to word how much trouble he'd be in!! It doesn't matter how pretty of a head he's got, he needs to pull it out of his ass and tone down the ego a bit! (But also like I'm glad he is at least willing to help now, but he's still in deep sh*t)
Ok sorry for the little ranty but there I got distracted 😂😂 But also I totally agree with you too on following teenage Finn or at least like Pre John's death Finn (who was like 20)! I can kinda understand why his character developed the way it did but I also kind hated how after John dies and in the later seasons Finn kinda becomes more of a dick. Like I really do understand how he always felt pressured into being like his brothers and taking on the family business and trying be be like then even though they really just seemed to see him as a normal worker at times (or they actually seemed to just stop carrying about him unless they needed leg work. Like the didn't bother teaching him to read at all or speak Romani or really teach him anything other than business and family fueds) But I really miss the younger and more innocent Finn who even when he wanted to be like his brothers still seemed to have some personality that was other than just trying to get their attention. Like he still seemed to somewhat act his age" and not be so kinda nervous and kinda stiff as much of the time. Plus I really miss how after John died his relationship with his siblings seemed kinda non-existent, and like I always loved how even if they weren't part of the scene we got to see the cute brotherly relationship between Finn and John in the background. Their relationship was so cute and I really feel like if either of the other brothers had died instead of John, Finn would have turned out more like John personality wise. But yeah, I also really like Finn's character pre-it all goes to shit where Tommy basically throws them all (but like Finn and the women minus Polly) in jail! Even though it was right after grace died if feel like other than season one that was when the family was more or less still a family instead of how they ended up😭 But yes That is one of my favorite versions of Finn and I can't wait to see how him and the readers relationship progresses!! Ooh I can imagine Mike eventually getting kinda pissy about them being close b/c he's overprotective and a bit possessive about her liking him best even if it is as a brother, and even if the pair is technically only together "for show" but then like one of the pair mentions how he has no right to get mad at the reader because of how he acted!!
Ahhh I'm so excited sorry for the rambeling! Your great and I hope you have a great day❤️❤️❤️
That is such a great take on Finn and i too hate what they did with him.
As for the grace stans thing, some grace stans are notoriously anti sex workers (going by the way they talk about Lizzie) and I blocked most of them because of that which apparently pisses them off because they started sending me anons because they also hate the idea of anyone writing her as a bad guy(#ACAB) and when i write her as a woman of her background, upbringing and time period.
One grace stan kept sending me anons trying to play the victim because apparently all my grace one shots are 'disturbing' (only two are and they say so on the tin) because she is written as the bad guy and not with Tommy (i ship her with Jack Nelson)
I blocked her and found out some writers in the fandom who had been mysterious banned had received similar anons, so I assumed she'd be up to her old tricks.
I love seeing you in my inbox and hope i can write part 2 of the finn series later today🖤
Ahh I don’t know if this has been asked before but what would Riot/Brutus/Sunder/Feral/Savage/Maul do if their daughters inherited night sister magic?! Would they encourage it? Discourage it? Be sad? Angry? Afraid? Omfg the angst 😭😭😭
Ahhh yes... I think you'll find that the answer to this is a bit more shocking than you were expecting.
Had Arianne or Rica inherited Nightsister magic, (they did not), Maul's reaction would have been the best out of the six. He never had a particularly negative experience with it, despite knowing what the Sisters had done to his brothers, thus he would never have a negative reaction to this discovery. He would see these abilities as something good for his babies, something they can use to fight and survive in this harsh world, and he would encourage them to use it. His concern though, would lie in who is to teach them, how they would learn to develop their powers, how they would wield them to their full potential.
Had Bee inherited the Nightsister magic, (she did not), Savage would be worried most of all. It's not that he would lose trust or faith in her, as she's always been kind and giving, but rather that the powers themselves aren't always predictable. From what he knows, the magic is most often used to harm, to destroy, to drain. And while he sometimes can't help but look back on what the Sisters had done to his father, his brothers, he knows that this is not the same, that Bee is wholly incapable of such things. He worries, then, what those powers will do to her instead.
If Cherry had inherited Nightsister magic, (she did not), Feral would... have to adapt. His instinctive response to her first accidental use of it was to recoil his hand, to step back ever so slightly. It was that color, that exact same color, and the feeling when you've even just been close to it. He doesn't want to be afraid. She's just a child, a small, innocent child who knows no better and doesn't understand why he's looking at her like that. He wants to snap out of it, to smile and say, "it's alright " and move on. But he can't. His body won't let him. So he pulls away, just for a little bit, to collect his mind, to rub at the metal that surrounds his neck and tell himself that the same will not happen again. He would grow accustomed to it eventually, perhaps even smiling once she's practiced it well.
Had Clementine inherited the magic, (she did not), Sunder would have doubted everything. He had a belief about the Sisters once; that they were superior in every way, that they were in charge, that what he wanted was nothing compared to a Sister's will. She's such a sweet little thing, finding it only interesting when she can make a puff of green smoke and nothing else, but she's thrown a wrench into Sunder's very existence, where he stands in his life. And what does this mean for you? Will you raise her? Teach her how to use these abilities, even when you have none? Will you believe that now, his purpose has been served, that he's created a valuable witch and must now be gotten rid of? You tell him no, none of this is true, nothing has changed nor will it ever. But his expression tells you that he doesn't quite believe the same. He glances at Clem again... You're not sure he ever will.
If Pepper had inherited the magic, (she did not), there's no secret that Riot was terrified. He always hated the magic, always shut his eyes when it was being used, still has burn marks on his hands from it. And the hands, in fact, are where he would fear touching Pepper the most. He would still go about his responsibilities, still take care of her. But in the back of his mind, he'd always be thinking, "what is she capable of? What will she eventually be capable of?" She would barely notice, continuing to talk about everything she'd found out that day, just to see if he'd light up in excitement and ask questions when she did. He doesn't, but perhaps eventually he will again. Just a quiet smile isn't enough.
When Callan found out he inherited the abilities, he hid them. Though Brutus never went into specifics about what the Sisters did to him, it was still clear he held a hatred for them, swearing that they're evil. And Callan hid what he discovered out of fear. Does this mean he's evil, too? Can he get rid of it? What if he hurts someone he cares about? He couldn't hide for long, though. He let it slip, a small comment about his abilities, and he shrunk into his shell in shame, almost wanting to apologize to his father for it despite having no say in the matter. But Brutus saw the look on his child's face, and went silent before pulling Callan to his embrace. His child feared himself, wanting to hide from his family as if this were his fault, believing he's hated for this alone. But Brutus explains, telling him that he hates the Sisters, the ones that harmed their family and friends, that kept them all locked away and brought out only when they're deemed useful. Callan though, is loved, and will always be so. He's Brutus's baby, that will never change.
BnHA Chapter 317: Thoughts & comparisons part 1 - THE MEDIA
Wow, SO much is happening in this chapter that I'm splitting my thoughts into 3 posts: this one about the media (part 1), the old man and the kid (part 2), and the hero killer (part 3).
But first, a FANTASTIC joke before the ugly crying begins:
* * * * * * * * * *
And before we talk media…. Nagant is alive, yay! And she’s been taken to Central Hospital, which offers state of the art care for heroes, less yay??? I mean, Dabi is treating his own burns, but Nagant gets the best care in the area because Hawks deemed her one of the “good ones”? I don’t know, they’ve both killed a lot of innocent people.
SHOTOOOoOoOOo! Ahhh, I’m so excited to even see his name mentioned! But then, I guess Endeavor’s Shoto-itis is cured? Ugh. I don’t get how he justifies blowing off Shoto actually calling him. We know Endeavor took personal time during his work to call Shoto and didn’t respect that Shoto was in class, but now that it’s the other way around (and apparently a true emergency) Endy won’t pick up. Grr. This is SUCH narcissistic and controlling parenting, demanding that the child is always wrong and always need to work around the parent’s terms.
Interesting that Mt Lady, who has been presented as a inexperienced, vain, and limited showbiz hero (although clutch in Kamino and in the war), is the one to suggest a broad support system. Also fun that she brings up the media angle and we saw her leading the media lessons in the anime this week. Good on her for thinking broadly about possible solutions. Minor complaint: Of this whole group, why is the lady hero the only one trying to get Deku more bodies for support? I’m hoping it’s to draw an old guard/next generation contrast and not a “ladies be mothering” thing. The official translation is far superior to the fanscans in this regard, phew.
I will grant that Endy’s detective skills are pretty good. He has a point about OFA not being public (just like he had a point about AFO missing something in his soul). I’m working on a larger post about this, but AFO operates much like the classic Western interpretation of Satan — he’s charismatic, he’s individualistic, he’s able to get people to act out of “free will” like the snake in the garden of Eden, and he views people as pawns to use for his enjoyment. There are also strong Faust parallels with AFO reanimating the dead with Ujiko + missing soul + wagers/contracts (and my understanding is there are a number of similar Japanese works from the same 16th-17th century timeframe.).
So why wouldn’t AFO make OFA public? Because AFO needs to be able to operate from the shadows, like Satan disguised as the snake. If people know he’s evil and eternal, his manipulation won’t be seen as benevolent and he’ll have fewer followers (think Ursula from Disney’s Little Mermaid, another Faust-based story — Ursula has few devotees, and Ariel knows she’s evil). However, Kamino made AFO’s existence, quirk, and “bad guy” status public knowledge, and the war/jailbreak made Shigaraki known too. AFO's cover is blown, and now he has less of an incentive to keep OFA secret. Sure, Deku might die if the OFA secret becomes public, but AFO sent Shiggy to fight Machia and Redestro, so AFO may take his chances and prod angry citizens to go after Deku.
I really can't stand the DFO theory BUT if AFO wanted to use the media to manipulate Deku, he certainly could go this way, with him claiming Deku as his creation. This could be positive (“I can help restore order and create true heroes for you!”) or negative (“See All Might’s heir? He’s actually under my control mwahahaha!”).
We’ve seen the public and the media try to paint a good guy as a villain before, and our good guy’s noble intentions were defended vigorously in public by his teacher. Paging Bakugo and Aizawa! But seriously, it's interesting that the media is mentioned so heavily at the beginning of the chapter, and the end is citizens saying Deku doesn't look like/act like a hero.
The hero brain trust is worried about the media, and they’re NOT talking to All Might, the biggest hero media whore [affectionate] of them all? That brings us to Part 2....
Makers, Mysteries and Magic chapter 6: Queenie Goldstein
Alison Sudol: I think the friendship and the compaionship and the bond is so powerful, which is why when they are fragmented, it's problematic. When they are all those four together, when they are a gang, they can kind of do anything and when they are pulled apart, it's almost like all of the force that would be positive is sort of working in a chaotic way. It's not aligned and it just goes to show like these bonds in life with our actual friends are necessary to keep us to align with ourselves almost. When you are having rifts with people you love and things like that and that energy is almost like-if you imagine energy is a flow and when they are together, they are just like moving as a unit and when they are apart, everything is like, "ahhh" and I think there's no way if that the four of them are all together that Queenie would've gone down the road that she is.
So in the first film, there was this real innocence and vulnerability and joy and excitement that she had because there was a adventure suddenly happening in her life. She was just delighted about that and then to have that adventure happening alongside meeting Jacob, for her it was just wonderful. It was really delicious exploring that.
This time around, basically because the wizarding world in America is very fearful of being found out. They are very fearful of the non-magical world. So there are really stringent laws about what kind of interaction you can have with No-Majs, which is basically nothing, like stay out of their way. So already in last film you see she's kind of breaking the rules by coming back to Jacob and then this time around, you see that they've been in a relationship for a while. It's caused a huge rift with her sister and because she has this gift and she's been seeing into people's heads for so long and has never fallen in love with the way that she falls in love with Jacob, I think she's got a little bit of desperation not to lose that and because she's got the added thing of you can't have this, it pushes her to make perhaps not the wisest of choices, which we've all done in love. She just so deeply and desperately wants love and when Tina can't accept that and Tina's her only family, it means that everything is kind of on Jacob and so she's sort of going to have Jacob, whether Jacob likes it or not. It doesn't work very well unsurprisingly and then that sets her off on a journey alone to go and find Tina. She just gets really lost and It's kind of heartbreaking and yet as a woman that's a bit older than she is in real life, I can see that she's going on a necessary path towards wisdom, towards learning more about herself and towards being a more integrated woman, but it's not gonna be all peaches and cream and fun.
It's not so lovely for Queenie in this film. She has trouble because she doesn't speak French. She's not good at languages period. She has trouble with Newt's accent, you know, so forget about Paris. So she's kind of getting a lot of information that she can't filter through in the way that she does. She's like clogged up by all of these information that she can't process, which is also part of the reason why it's easy for Grindelwald to manipulate her, because her instincts are not functioning properly.
So she is scooped up by Grindelwald in easily the most vulnerable moment that she's had in her adult life. She has very little at this point left to go to, so she's not protected by anything in that moment and he comes in and you know, it's very interesting the way that Jo's done this. Basically, you think of a predator or an evil person, a bad person's gonna come in and they are gonna be like an ogre and horrible and being like killing kittens in front of you and you are gonna be able to see that they are evil, but the thing about Grindelwald is that he's a master manipulator. He's all things to everyone that they need, and that is why he is so dangerous, and to Queenie, he very quickly understands that the way to get to her is through her giant heart, which is very open and very sore, and he comes in, he's vulnerable to her and sort of appeals to her and also reacts to her gift, which is a gift of being able to read minds, but Queenie's never been told that it's a gift. She's always been shushed, and It's always been a frustration and an annoyance to the people around her, and here you have this very intriguing, mysterious man who sees her as this powerful woman, and also he's saying, "You know, I want what you want. I want you be able to love freely."
Hi, welcome back!!
I never write long asks in response to fics (mostly bc my brain is usually mush and can only go "very good, thank you") but holy moly that was a DOOZY of a chapter of Blood Masquerade and my brain is WHIRRING. Where do i even BEGIN??
First of all i LOVE this mc's personality. She feels very gaslight gatekeep girlboss in the BEST of ways. The way she's almost puppeteering the boys in this chapter to bend them to her will, and the subtle mindgames she has all of them engaged in has me SO drawn in and on the edge of my seat.
And as much as i was expecting San to continue to make veiled threats, i DIDN'T expect him to come in with a physical threat to her life, weapon and all??? That scene was so well executed, the subtle but constant presence of the dagger to her back, the grip she had on the back of his head, the BACKSTORY oh my. I didn't know his visceral disdain for her country was going to be quite that personal, but i suppose looking back, it does make sense. I don't think he'd be quite so worked up over mere politics.
The humanising and sobering moment she had with Hideyoshi after that little altercation was nice to see too. I like the little moments of fear and panic we get to see when she (pun not intended) lets her mask slip, or is given a moment to mull over her situation by herself. She's not quite as untouchable and unflappable as she likes to make people think.
The conversation with Seonghwa had me laughing so much. She's really not afraid to call the boys out on behaviour she finds unsavoury, calling him a "petulant child" and all, oh poor Seonghwa. Though i will say, that doesn't seem too far from the truth. Although seeming fairly knowledgeable, he does seem to have an air of innocence around him?? Although mc begins to doubt the validity of Seonghwa's descriptions of the personalities of the other boys, it doesn't seem like its come from a place of him being deceitful, but moreso of viewing his long time friends with rose tinted glasses, and a dash of empathy for their individual situations.
I also barked out loud with laughter when she straight up lied to Hongjoong and told him she was wearing the gift from the fox, just to rile him up and test her theory on how much the two remain butting heads. This mc is so cunning and puts so much meticulous thought into her every word and action, its fascinating to witness, especially through all of her internal dialogue.
I'm impressed by how confident in her own capabilities she is too. Seducing Yunho and taking off to go fuck him in private, all to test whether he's there to kill her or not? An entirely risky move, yet she seemed certain that she'd be able to worm her way out of any sticky situation that might arise. Either that, or her clear love of playing a risky game overtook her. Maybe both. Though i don't think that kind of confidence in winning the game could be baseless, so i have to wonder what she's capable of when it really comes down to it...
I do also love that throughout this game she's playing of having the boys court her, she's playing a secondary game, always having to look over her shoulder to work out just what Ryuunosuke's up to. I'm excited to continue to uncover exactly what's going on with him, and i'm excited to see how the boys play into it all.
I'm going to have to mull over the decision for a while this time, bc coming out of that chapter, i truely have NO clue who i want to see more from, and which pairing i want to choose.
ahhh please thank you first of all im happy to be back i missed getting to post for you guys sm T-T and thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely and detailed response to my fic wow im honored and v grateful 😭
i'm so glad you adore the mc's personality, i was a bit worried about her being off-putting or too much to some but you all are so sweet and kind and im !! so glad yall are on board with the idea of her being a boss bitch who gets shit done !!!
i truly had so much fun writing that san scene i won't lie it was giving me strong 'dancing with your enemy at a crowded ball' vibes and i was WHEW! excited for it! but truly he has VERY good reason to be so angry beyond mere politics, especially for a man who isn't in line to the throne 👀
as ,much as i adore a tough mc, i do love vulnerability as well and giving her that moment with hideyoshi was two fold for showing she can let her mask slip and that she does have those moments of fear and panic like anyone else would but also to show how deep her relationship with hideyoshi goes <3
poor seonghwa indeed she went for the jugular then and there didn't she 😭 of all the stances people have on seonghwa, i'd say yours is closest to the truth especially with the air of innocence and the rose-tinted glasses he views his friends with bc of course he wouldn't be an ass and talk about the worst qualities in his best friends even if it is somewhat of a competition!! i think we'll see his personality kinda fall apart a bit as we go as well, but he's definitely not intentionally being deceitful !
she's such a delight to write i won't lie i had so much fun writing her banter with hongjoong bc it's fun to write a back and forth with a cunning character vs one that gets riled up so easily ahhhh im so so glad it reads well too that's such a joy to hear as well T-T
and of course my personal highlight of the chapter that i fought to get in there bc i couldn't resist having it in this chapter! the whole interaction and scene with yunho wow it was such a thrill to write whew! that theme of her confidence vs her thrill of the game will be one that's reoccurring as well, and we'll see a lot of that internal struggle coming to light as well but you bring up a good point in saying that that confidence couldn't be baseless bc it would be plain stupid to go into such a dangerous situation if she couldn't genuinely defend herself on her own right? it does beg the question that if yunho wasn't the one there to kill her, what exactly was his intention and how did it involve ryuunosuke 🤔
but truly the game is heating up and now there are more pieces on the board and it's getting more complicated as that happens but it's exciting as well heh im so glad you enjoyed and im eager to know which pair you ended up going for and why!!
Chapter 5 spoilers: the outline sounds more in character than the supposed script to me, to be honest. I strongly believe the magic conversation has been changed, since we know Dany doesn't know (yet) that Jon has been brought to life, and even if she knew, I don't think she or him will be joking about that. It would be a weird way to let the audience know this has been discussed and I think we have been made believe it's an important matter, since Jon showed no indications of (1/2)
(2/2) of wanting her to know and she has been shown curious about it, too. In the first spoilers we were told she was more or less upset Drogon let Jon pet him, I think I prefer that to this weird conversation. Still, I find nice that she is just impressed, but I believe the conversation has been changed. I also hope she tells him the turth, I can hear the antis being asses about it if not. I like her being lowkey worried about him, it pairs up good with what we know will happen next.
Another not jonerys thing: I hope if Gendry does tells Jon all those things, it doesn’t make me go lol as It did when I read it because it sounds like it will be a big deal. And I love Davos feeling like Gendry’s father somehow, because Davos has been presenting himself as the Supreme Dad lately and I just love DADvos so much lol.
Ahhh I agree with absolutely every part of this my dear!
Yes, the magic conversation is honestly one of the most RIDICULOUS things I have ever seen lol so I am glad that everyone seems to be unanimously saying that it won’t happen. And while I feel the same, it does alarm me a bit that D&D wrote this to begin with???? Is this how they perceive Dany’s character? Because of so … yikes. Yikes.
I also am desperately hoping that she is honest about the battle. Like a lie of omission would suck but I would prefer that to her just saying it all went well or something. What I really want is for her to tell the truth, for her and Jon to argue about it, and for him to ultimately come to her side when they discuss how they both have killed traitors in the past. Randyll and DIckon are traitors and they showed no mercy whatsoever to their unarmed, elderly women liege lady. They killed all of the men at Highgarden and let Jaime murder Olenna. So they are not innocent and Dany gives them a chance. Surely Jon would understand. But if she lies that spells problems for them down the line and I dread it with all my SOUL ugh.
I agree that the dragon scene sounds good though and I prefer impressed Dany to grumpy Dany. I also like the fact that across both the outline and script, her concern and worry for Jon heading to the wight hunt is apparent. I think that’s romantic and I love it.
The Gendry conversation was very awkward to me. Why would he proudly step up to Jon and announce that he is Robert’s bastard? That feels so weird to me. And I love Dadvos more than anyone, but how does Davos already feel fatherly for Gendry? They spent a pretty tiny amount of time together and it was years ago.
But despite that I am REALLY happy that Gendry is back and I do think that it’s sweet, meaningful, and exciting that he and Jon have something to bond over. I just don’t want them to make it cheesy or OOC. Because the parts about Gendry being like “his father’s son” and stuff don’t really make sense. It doesn’t make sense for him to suddenly be super proud of that now. Idk.
Overall I am hoping that serious changes happened from that draft until now lol.
