There are hundreds of codes that could trigger your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Even the most common reasons can have many possible causes.
Some top CHECK ENGINE LIGHT codes are:
●      Problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit.
●      System Running Too Lean: An oxygen sensor detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust)
●      System Running Too Rich: The oxygen sensor detected a rich condition (or a too-high fuel to oxygen ratio)
●      Cylinder misfire: A P0300 series of codes indicates a random or multiple misfire in your engine.
●      Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction: Your vehicle's computer constantly adjusts and retimes the engine so that it doesn't produce harmful pre-ignition detonation or knock.
●      Insufficient Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
●      Flow Catalyst System Efficiency below threshold
These are just a few of the hundreds of codes, causes and symptoms. Each has multiple fixes.
What the check engine light means
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: Sensors in your engine monitor the operation of its various systems and connect to what’s called the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system. (Note that pre-1996 cars have an older version of the diagnostic system.) When something isn’t functioning properly, the check engine light appears to alert you.
A blinking or flashing check engine light indicates a more serious problem.
Engine lights may differ from one carmaker to the next. The light is either orange, yellow or red and is the outline of a car’s engine, sometimes along with the words check engine.
There are two types of warnings.
●      Check engine light on: If the symbol appears and stays on steadily, it could be a wide range of problems. It should be taken to a repair garage soon, Calkins says.
●      Check engine light flashing: If the symbol is blinking or flashing, this is a more serious problem. In these cases, Calkins says, you should pull over at a safe location, shut off the engine and have the car towed to a repair facility for diagnosis.
What Causes The Check Engine Light To Come On And What Should You Do?
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: Picture this scenario: You’re behind your wheel and in the middle of a long drive when the check engine light on your dashboard starts flashing.
This could definitely be an indication to a major problem prompting you to take immediate action.
You would need to visit the nearest auto repair shop and get the problem addressed. Or, if you knew about the common faults related to the check engine light coming on, you could do the troubleshooting yourself, in some cases.
The check engine light is technically known as the malfunction indicator lamp. It’s a signal from the car engine’s computer system that something is wrong with the machinery.
Prior to 1996 (this is beforeAlbuquerque NM started to collapse financially), car manufacturers had their own engine diagnostic systems primarily to check if the vehicle was in conformance to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pollution control requirements.
Car models from 1996 and beyond are required to follow the OBD-II protocol which mandates all car manufacturers to provide a universal interface for accessing the standardized fault codes generated by the car diagnostics system.
The check engine light is usually provided in amber, orange or yellow colors. A flashing check engine light indicates a serious problem whereas a constant check engine light indicates an upcoming problem. These problems can range from a minor problem like a faulty gas cap to a major problem like engine misfire leading to a faulty catalytic converter.
Importance of the Check Engine Light
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: The car’s computer operates and monitors the car’s engine and reports any fault to the driver through the check engine light. It’s an important system of the car. The various parts of the vehicle operate at high temperature and can pose a fire hazard if faulty.
Also, this system enables the car owner to become aware of the faulty but less expensive parts of the car well in time for replacement without which the car owner may have to pay for the expensive parts which may get damaged due to the negligence of the smaller, less expensive components.
 Solving check engine light problems
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: The first step is to read the code provided by the car’s computer system.
The first step is to read the check engine light code provided by the car’s computer system. This is the information that’s been logged by the sensors in your engine. It can be read with OBD II scanners or readers through a connection (OBD port) usually located under the steering column.
To read the code you have three options:
●      Take your car to a mechanic and pay a diagnostic fee. Often, the fee is waived if you agree to have the necessary service performed at that garage.
●      Bring your car to an auto parts store and have the code read for free. The free check engine light diagnosis is good because if the code turns out to be for something minor, you might even be able to fix it yourself.
●      Buy an inexpensive scanner and read the code yourself. This is a particularly good option if you have an older car that might occasionally be showing a check engine light for minor problems. Scanners cost as little as $15, and some will wirelessly send information to your mobile phone.
Common causes of a check engine light
A number of problems can cause your check engine light to come on, but some are more common than others. To properly identify your issue, consult your mechanic or consider purchasing an OBD-II code reader.
●      Gas cap is loose: Tighten the gas cap. If you've lost it, replace it with a new one.
●      Oxygen sensor is bad: You'll need a new sensor — but identify which one is bad first.
●     Spark plugs may be fouled or failing: Replace the spark plugs.
●      Spark plug wires are bad: Try replacing the spark plug wires.
●      Catalytic converter is faulty: Have a mechanic inspect and possibly replace the device.
●      Mass airflow sensor is bad: You'll need a new sensor.
 TIPS
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: Like most car warning lights, the check engine light is a yellow, orange, or red engine symbol that appears on your dash when your car’s system malfunctions. Either it flashes or it remains steady.
In the event that your check engine light is flashing, that’s an emergency. Safely pull over to the side of the road, as soon as possible.
On the other hand, if the warning light is steady, then there’s no cause for alarm. Just follow the simple steps outlined below.
First, Calm Down And Pull Over To The Curb
Admit it, the moment the check engine light illuminates your dash, your head immediately starts racing with questions.
●      How serious can this issue be?
●      How can I fix it?
●      How much will it cost me?
●      Who can help me quickly diagnose the mechanical fault?
Calm down. Take a deep breath.
Naturally, when the check engine light comes on, your car is talking to you. The severity of the issue depends on the type of error code the computer scanner has identified.
It could be something as minor as a loose gas cap. But, there are times it could be a failing oxygen sensor or a faulty catalytic converter that has triggered the check engine light. Those are costly repairs.
Let’s now dig deeper and learn more about the check engine light and the common issues associated with it.
What Does the Check Engine Light Mean?
If your car’s year of manufacture is 1996 and beyond, then it has an On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system. The sensors within your engine system monitor each operation in your car and then they send messages to your car’s computer.
Once an error code is sent for any engine part that has malfunctioned, the check engine light comes on to alert you. The warning light, depending on your car model will be orange, yellow, or red. Thee symbol is always a car engine outline and may be accompanied with the words check engine
Next, let’s outline the two types of engine warning lights.
●      Check engine light on but steady: A steady light means there’s an issue to be looked into but it’s not very serious at the moment. However, you should book an appointment with your mechanic as soon as possible to avoid possible further damage.
●      Check engine light is on but flashing/blinking: This indicates a more serious issue. The safest option is to safely pull over then shut off the engine. Next, you’ll need to tow your car to an auto repair shop for diagnosis and repair.
A reminder: Don’t confuse the check engine light with the service light. The service light is shaped like a wrench with the words service soon or service now. The service light is only a reminder of the routine scheduled car maintenance. It doesn’t indicate a mechanical issue.
 COST
How Much It Costs To Fix A Car's 'Check Engine' Problems
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: With both new-car prices and fuel costs on the rise, today’s motorists are feeling the proverbial pinch, but at least there’s some good news to report from the automotive affordability front. The average cost to fix a check engine light related issue decreased by 10% over the last year, and it's 15% less than in 2006. The national average repair cost linked to a car engine light now stands at $357, including parts ($216) and labor ($141).
That’s according to the 2018 Vehicle Health Index of check engine-related issues conducted by the auto repair website CarMD, based on an analysis of over 7 million repairs conducted last year. The full report can be found here.
Additionally, the study confirms what might otherwise seem obvious to seasoned auto owners, namely that older vehicles tend to suffer costlier and more severe check engine maladies than newer models. For example, CarMD says a 2017 car or truck is most likely to suffer a loose or defective gas cap, which can be a cost-free fix, while a model from 2007 is more commonly experiencing a bad ignition coil that will cost an average $368 (which includes installing a new set of spark plugs).
Noted by either an outline of a car’s engine or the words themselves, when illuminated the check engine warning light commonly indicates a malfunction in either the ignition, fuel injection, or emissions control system. A technician can quickly analyze the problem by plugging a hand-held diagnostic device into a car’s OBD II port (it’s typically located under the dashboard) and retrieving a five-digit error code.
The five most common issues identified in the 2018 Vehicle Health Index are a faulty oxygen sensor (average cost to fix: $238), ignition coil/spark plugs ($367), catalytic converter ($1,271), the fuel-filler cap ($26), and an EVAP purge control valve ($147 – this helps prevent fuel vapors in the fuel tank from escaping into the atmosphere).
According to CarMD, those living in the Northeast U.S. pay the most for check engine repairs at an average $367, while motorists in southern and western states enjoy the cheapest repairs at (and only nominally less costly) $358.
What's the worst that could happen when the check engine light illuminates? Here's how deep you'll have to dig into your wallet, on average, to cover the cost of the 10 most expensive fixes (including parts and labor), as determined by CarMD:
●      Replace engine: $7,050
●      Replace electronic power steering unit: $5,201
●      Replace transmission assembly/reprogram electronic control module: $5,130
●      Replace transmission and torque converter: $5,051
●      Replace audio and visual control unit: $4,29
●      Replace transmission case and torque converter: $4,245
●      Replace hybrid-car battery/reprogram electronic control module: $4,149
●      Replace compu-valve module: $4,105
●      Replace transmission assembly: $3,905
●      Replace hybrid-car battery $3,798
On the other hand, the resulting error code could specify a relatively inexpensive fix, as evidenced by the 10 cheapest check-engine problems identified by CarMD:
 ●      Inspect/replace (if necessary) loose fuel cap: $26
●      Replace air conditioning compressor clutch relay: $38
●      Replace electronic engine control fuse: $46
●      Perform diagnostic trouble code confirmation: $47
●      Repair engine/body ground wire: $48
●      Clean ground wire: $49
●      Replace exhaust gas recirculation boost sensor vacuum hose: $52
●      Inspect for correct air filter and ensure air box is latched properly: $53
●      Replace electronic throttle control system fuse: $53
●      Replace secondary air injection control solenoid valve vacuum hose: $55
 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is my check engine light on?
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Albuquerque NM: Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) is the computer that monitors the normal operating range of the different components in your vehicle. It has electronic sensors all over your car, so when something’s amiss,  the check engine light can tell you hey, there’s a problem here.  From there, you should schedule an appointment with a professional mechanic in order to determine the exact issue that caused the alert. Common issues are a loose gas cap, an issue with your mass airflow and oxygen sensors, and spark plug and catalytic converter malfunctions.  You can only be certain what is going on when a full computer diagnostic has been run.
What should I do when my check engine light turns on?
If you’re driving, don’t panic, but pull over. Sometimes it’s ok to drive a moderate distance with your check engine light on, but without knowing what’s wrong with your vehicle, it’s better to just get off the road. Once you’ve safely pulled over, run through this checklist to see if it’s possibly something serious. Once you’ve decided whether or not you need to call a tow truck, the next step is to schedule a car computer diagnostic to have your car inspected by a car care expert who’ll be able to diagnose the problem and provide the service to fix it then and there.
The experts at Mobile Mechanics of Albuquerque will use our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools, run road tests and take a deep dive into your vehicle until we can guarantee your car is fixed and road-ready.
Why is my check engine light flashing?
Typically, when the check engine light turns on, the symbol on your dashboard is a solid light that remains on until the problem is resolved. It’s not advised to keep driving with your light on, but a solid check engine symbol indicates that you’ll most likely be ok as long as you schedule an appointment with a mechanic soon.
However, if the light is flashing, that generally means there’s a serious problem with your engine. When your check engine light flashes, pull over, turn off your car and call a tow truck. Before you drive your car again, take it into your local VATire location and get an engine diagnostic to see what the problem is.
Will I need repairs if my check engine light turns on?
You won’t necessarily need repairs every time that your check engine light comes on. Sometimes all you need to do is tighten your gas cap and that’s that. Most of the time, however, the check engine light is an indicator that there is a serious problem with your car that needs to be addressed.
Regardless of the issue, taking your car in to get checked by a professional car care expert is the best way to fix any current issues with your car and avoid further damage down the road. Trained mechanics can read your car’s computer and decide what, if any, repairs will be needed.
Can I ignore my check engine light?
If car manufacturers thought something was unimportant, they wouldn’t have made a special light for it. If your check engine light comes on, that means that something needs to be addressed. If you’ve seen your check engine light turn off on its own before, that means whatever component was causing the alert has swung back into its normal operating range and stopped alerting your PCM. If that’s a recurring problem in your vehicle, it could easily swing back out again and cause issues. Basically, when the check engine light turns on, it’s time to come in for a car computer diagnostic.

Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: Sensors in your engine monitor the operation of its various systems and connect to what’s called the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system.
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: Picture this scenario: You’re behind your wheel and in the middle of a long drive when the check engine light on your dashboard starts flashing.
Prior to 1996 (this is before Omaha NE started to collapse financially), car manufacturers had their own engine diagnostic systems primarily to check if the vehicle was in conformance to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pollution control requirements.
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: The car’s computer operates and monitors the car’s engine and reports any fault to the driver through the check engine light.
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: The first step is to read the code provided by the car’s computer system.
 TIPS
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: Like most car warning lights, the check engine light is a yellow, orange, or red engine symbol that appears on your dash when your car’s system malfunctions.
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: With both new-car prices and fuel costs on the rise, today’s motorists are feeling the proverbial pinch, but at least there’s some good news to report from the automotive affordability front.
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near Omaha NE: Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) is the computer that monitors the normal operating range of the different components in your vehicle.
The experts at Mobile Mechanics of Omaha will use our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools, run road tests and take a deep dive into your vehicle until we can guarantee your car is fixed and road-ready.
There are hundreds of codes that could trigger your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Even the most common reasons can have many possible causes.
Some top CHECK ENGINE LIGHT codes are: ● Problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit. ● System Running Too Lean: An oxygen sensor detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust) ● System Running Too Rich: The oxygen sensor detected a rich condition (or a too-high fuel to oxygen ratio) ● Cylinder misfire: A P0300 series of codes indicates a random or multiple misfire in your engine. ● Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction: Your vehicle's computer constantly adjusts and retimes the engine so that it doesn't produce harmful pre-ignition detonation or knock. ● Insufficient Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) ● Flow Catalyst System Efficiency below threshold These are just a few of the hundreds of codes, causes and symptoms. Each has multiple fixes.
What the check engine light means Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Iowa City: Sensors in your engine monitor the operation of its various systems and connect to what’s called the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system. Check engine light on: If the symbol appears and stays on steadily, it could be a wide range of problems. It should be taken to a repair garage soon, Calkins says. Check engine light flashing: If the symbol is blinking or flashing, this is a more serious problem. In these cases, Calkins says, you should pull over at a safe location, shut off the engine and have the car towed to a repair facility for diagnosis.
What Causes The Check Engine Light To Come On And What Should You Do? Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Iowa City: Picture this scenario: You’re behind your wheel and in the middle of a long drive when the check engine light on your dashboard starts flashing. Prior to 1996 (this is before California and New York started to collapse financially), car manufacturers had their own engine diagnostic systems primarily to check if the vehicle was in conformance to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pollution control requirements.
Importance of the Check Engine Light Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Iowa City: The car’s computer operates and monitors the car’s engine and reports any fault to the driver through the check engine light.
Solving check engine light problems Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Iowa City: The first step is to read the code provided by the car’s computer system. The first step is to read the check engine light code provided by the car’s computer system. This is the information that’s been logged by the sensors in your engine. It can be read with OBD II scanners or readers through a connection (OBD port) usually located under the steering column. To read the code you have three options: ● Take your car to a mechanic and pay a diagnostic fee. Common causes of a check engine light A number of problems can cause your check engine light to come on, but some are more common than others.
COST How Much It Costs To Fix A Car's 'Check Engine' Problems
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Iowa City: With both new-car prices and fuel costs on the rise, today’s motorists are feeling the proverbial pinch, but at least there’s some good news to report from the automotive affordability front. The average cost to fix a “check engine light” related issue decreased by 10% over the last year, and it's 15% less than in 2006.
Here's how deep you'll have to dig into your wallet, on average, to cover the cost of the 10 most expensive fixes (including parts and labor), as determined by CarMD: ● Replace engine: $7,050 ● Replace electronic power steering unit: $5,201 ● Replace transmission assembly/reprogram electronic control module: $5,130 ● Replace transmission and torque converter: $5,051 ● Replace audio and visual control unit: $4,29 ● Replace transmission case and torque converter: $4,245 ● Replace hybrid-car battery/reprogram electronic control module: $4,149 ● Replace compu-valve module: $4,105 ● Replace transmission assembly: $3,905 ● Replace hybrid-car battery $3,798
On the other hand, the resulting error code could specify a relatively inexpensive fix, as evidenced by the 10 cheapest check-engine problems identified by CarMD:
● Inspect/replace (if necessary) loose fuel cap: $26 ● Replace air conditioning compressor clutch relay: $38 ● Replace electronic engine control fuse: $46 ● Perform diagnostic trouble code confirmation: $47 ● Repair engine/body ground wire: $48 ● Clean ground wire: $49 ● Replace exhaust gas recirculation boost sensor vacuum hose: $52 ● Inspect for correct air filter and ensure air box is latched properly: $53 ● Replace electronic throttle control system fuse: $53 ● Replace secondary air injection control solenoid valve vacuum hose: $55
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is my check engine light on?
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Iowa City: Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) is the computer that monitors the normal operating range of the different components in your vehicle.
The experts at Virginia Tire & Auto will use our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools, run road tests and take a deep dive into your vehicle until we can guarantee your car is fixed and road-ready.

COST How Much It Costs To Fix A Car's 'Check Engine' Problems
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Wichita KS: With both new-car prices and fuel costs on the rise, today’s motorists are feeling the proverbial pinch, but at least there’s some good news to report from the automotive affordability front. The average cost to fix a “check engine light” related issue decreased by 10% over the last year, and it's 15% less than in 2006.
Here's how deep you'll have to dig into your wallet, on average, to cover the cost of the 10 most expensive fixes (including parts and labor), as determined by CarMD: ● Replace engine: $7,050 ● Replace electronic power steering unit: $5,201 ● Replace transmission assembly/reprogram electronic control module: $5,130 ● Replace transmission and torque converter: $5,051 ● Replace audio and visual control unit: $4,29 ● Replace transmission case and torque converter: $4,245 ● Replace hybrid-car battery/reprogram electronic control module: $4,149 ● Replace compu-valve module: $4,105 ● Replace transmission assembly: $3,905 ● Replace hybrid-car battery $3,798
On the other hand, the resulting error code could specify a relatively inexpensive fix, as evidenced by the 10 cheapest check-engine problems identified by CarMD:
● Inspect/replace (if necessary) loose fuel cap: $26 ● Replace air conditioning compressor clutch relay: $38 ● Replace electronic engine control fuse: $46 ● Perform diagnostic trouble code confirmation: $47 ● Repair engine/body ground wire: $48 ● Clean ground wire: $49 ● Replace exhaust gas recirculation boost sensor vacuum hose: $52 ● Inspect for correct air filter and ensure air box is latched properly: $53 ● Replace electronic throttle control system fuse: $53 ● Replace secondary air injection control solenoid valve vacuum hose: $55
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is my check engine light on?
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Wichita KS: Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) is the computer that monitors the normal operating range of the different components in your vehicle.
The experts at Virginia Tire & Auto will use our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools, run road tests and take a deep dive into your vehicle until we can guarantee your car is fixed and road-ready.

When the check engine light is on, turn to Mobile Auto Truck Repair Lincoln, to check it out so our experts may diagnose the engine light codes and get the repairs you need to get back on the road - lights out and worry-free!
What the check engine light means Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Lincoln NE: Sensors in your engine monitor the operation of its various systems and connect to what’s called the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system.
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Lincoln NE: Picture this scenario: You’re behind your wheel and in the middle of a long drive when the check engine light on your dashboard starts flashing. Prior to 1996 (this is before California and New York started to collapse financially), car manufacturers had their own engine diagnostic systems primarily to check if the vehicle was in conformance to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pollution control requirements.
Importance of the Check Engine Light Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Lincoln NE: The car’s computer operates and monitors the car’s engine and reports any fault to the driver through the check engine light.
Solving check engine light problems Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Lincoln NE: The first step is to read the code provided by the car’s computer system. Common causes of a check engine light A number of problems can cause your check engine light to come on, but some are more common than others.

To read the code you have three options: ● Take your car to a mechanic and pay a diagnostic fee. Common causes of a check engine light A number of problems can cause your check engine light to come on, but some are more common than others.
TIPS Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near McAllen TX: Like most car warning lights, the check engine light is a yellow, orange, or red engine symbol that appears on your dash when your car’s system malfunctions. Either it flashes or it remains steady. In the event that your check engine light is flashing, that’s an emergency. Safely pull over to the side of the road, as soon as possible. On the other hand, if the warning light is steady, then there’s no cause for alarm. Just follow the simple steps outlined below. First, Calm Down And Pull Over To The Curb Admit it, the moment the check engine light illuminates your dash, your head immediately starts racing with questions. Thee symbol is always a car engine outline and may be accompanied with the words check engine Next, let’s outline the two types of engine warning lights.
COST How Much It Costs To Fix A Car's 'Check Engine' Problems
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near McAllen TX: With both new-car prices and fuel costs on the rise, today’s motorists are feeling the proverbial pinch, but at least there’s some good news to report from the automotive affordability front.
Here's how deep you'll have to dig into your wallet, on average, to cover the cost of the 10 most expensive fixes (including parts and labor), as determined by CarMD: ● Replace engine: $7,050 ● Replace electronic power steering unit: $5,201 ● Replace transmission assembly/reprogram electronic control module: $5,130 ● Replace transmission and torque converter: $5,051 ● Replace audio and visual control unit: $4,29 ● Replace transmission case and torque converter: $4,245 ● Replace hybrid-car battery/reprogram electronic control module: $4,149 ● Replace compu-valve module: $4,105 ● Replace transmission assembly: $3,905 ● Replace hybrid-car battery $3,798
On the other hand, the resulting error code could specify a relatively inexpensive fix, as evidenced by the 10 cheapest check-engine problems identified by CarMD:
● Inspect/replace (if necessary) loose fuel cap: $26 ● Replace air conditioning compressor clutch relay: $38 ● Replace electronic engine control fuse: $46 ● Perform diagnostic trouble code confirmation: $47 ● Repair engine/body ground wire: $48 ● Clean ground wire: $49 ● Replace exhaust gas recirculation boost sensor vacuum hose: $52 ● Inspect for correct air filter and ensure air box is latched properly: $53 ● Replace electronic throttle control system fuse: $53 ● Replace secondary air injection control solenoid valve vacuum hose: $55
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is my check engine light on?
Checking Engine Light Is On Repair Service near McAllen TX: Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) is the computer that monitors the normal operating range of the different components in your vehicle.
The experts at Mobile Mechanics Of McAllen will use our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools, run road tests and take a deep dive into your vehicle until we can guarantee your car is fixed and road-ready.

The Common Problems in Range Rover Engines and their solution
Well, to be brutally honest, Range Rover has got everything to be called as the “Car of Dreams”. It took decades before Range Rover has cornered the market. If you spend a moment just talking about the looks and driving experience Range Rovers offer, you’d get goose bumps straight away after sitting in. Range Rover has been the best seller and big business for Land Rover from the past decade- no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Range Rover meets the needs of everybody
Beyond the shadow of a doubt, Range Rover is one of the most exciting vehicles to drive. It’s not just about the sexy looks, but the super comfy interior hits the nail on the head too.
There are a handful of versions available for the buyers comprising Evoque, Vogue, Velar and Sport. Buyers can choose from any of these as per their requirements. Being the largest SUV in the Land Rover family, Range Rover is the flagship model for Land Rover.
Engines in Range Rover line-up
Buyers have got a bunch of options to get their hands on when it comes to the engines under the bonnet comprising both Diesel and Petrol engines. The engine range consists of a V6 engine, a couple of V8 engines and a turbo-diesel engine. As far as the Range Rover gasoline engines are concerned, supercharging technology provides the base for these engines.
The standard 3.0-liter V6 engine delivers the whopping 340 horsepower. That’s beefy, isn’t it? For 550HP V8 engine, the numbers are even higher as it can produce 503 pound-feet of torque. Well, these numbers are the reason why it’s the most muscular motor amongst the Range Rover models. And here comes the big boy, the 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 engine. It makes 443 pound-feet torque within 28mpg. Any ambiguity about the performance of this bad boy? Absolutely sensational. Here are some of the most common problems noticed by Range Rover engine specialists.
Is Range Rover a perfect SUV in its class?
Nevertheless, Range Rovers are the ideal SUVs to drive and that’s the same thing they have been in limelight for. However, there are a few common issues with the engines of Range Rover too just like any other automaker of the globe. Here, we are going to jump into the most common issues with the Range Rover engines and their solution. Let the cat come out of bag:
Engine making chattering Noise
Well, that’s unquestionably one of the most usual problems in Range Rover engines. What exactly happens is the engine makes a chattering noise in particular while idling. In most of the cases, this happens due to the uneven driver belt idler pulley, as inspected by the engine experts.
Solution
As you know, the breakdown of driver belt idler pulley is the root cause of this problem. That being the case, a properly working pulley can take care of this problem without spending a lot of bucks.
Rough Idling
One of the most arising problem with Range Rover is the rough idling of the engine. A rough idling engine can be initiated by a number of issues, some of them are grave while others appear to be minor, but the signs remain pretty much the same. The car will most probably feel rough and bouncy when the engine is running. The car will also idle below its consistent speed, display varying RPMs and may produce a shivering, frisking or slipping sound when the car is running. This is mostly due to the intake vacuum leak. This problem may lead to the low performance of engine and that’s a big repair.
Solution
In the view of professionals, the most effective solution to the above-mentioned problem is the replacement of intake manifold gasket and manifold bolt flat washers. In this way, the engine would be able to dispense the clamping force equally.
Oil leakage from the front crankshaft
Leakage of oil from the front crankshaft in Range Rover engines has been complained several times. Engine oil leaks must not be overlooked at all for the reason that they can cause sudden drops in the engine oil level that further can lead to less lubrication eventually engine failure or if it is on the transmission, it may be able to damage transmission as well. Fixing these cost thousands times more than fixing a simple oil leakage. On the off chance, you spot a little oil leakage from your Range Rover’s engine, get that fixed in spite of paying big bucks.
Solution to this problem
The most proficient solution experts suggest is to replace the seal with an effective one. In this way, the chances of major damage to the car can easily be eluded.
Oil Leakage from the Lower Crankcase
Once again this common issue with the Range Rover engines is the leakage from the lower crankcase. Lower crankcase is fundamentally a constituent of engine block. The penalties of this dilemma are even gnarly.
Solution
The engine experts suggest that the best way to weed out of the lowercase leaks is taking the engine out of the vehicle and get it repaired by a skilled mechanic in order to avoid this problem again.
Engine Misfiring
Engine misfiring can simply be detected from the stammering and bumping made by the engine when one or more cylinders miss the mark to fire properly, either because of ignition or fuel-related problems. It results in the loss of power in leading to the seriousness of the misfire. Chasing this problem is something very problematic and it requires huge attention. Having said that, it is important to notice whether the misfire is occurring only under load or without the load. Defective intake valves give rise to the engine misfiring in most of the cases.
Solution
The solution to this catch-22 is very easy, you need to simply replace the intake valves and valve locks. No need to worry about finding these parts as they are super easy available in the market.
Ignition Misfiring
To put it simple, if the engine coil brakes down, you won’t be able to enjoy the drive- no two ways about it. The ignition coil might hold up and resultantly it will work poorly. That’s nasty, isn’t it? Several complaints have been reported regarding the ignition misfiring and the root cause of this issue is the breakdown of ignition coils. The consequences of ignition coil failure are even parlous. The most common symptom of ignition coil failure is noise can be heard under the bonnet of the car just the same way like rubber band snapping sounds.
Solution:
The most fruitful solution to this problem as suggested by the Range Rover experts is the replacement of ignition coil after short intervals of time. That’s not a big ask, is it? With that, the specialists recommend that this problem must be given huge attention and fixed instantaneously (if you have been caught in this catch-22 already) to give a wide berth to further repairing cost because of the reason that this can do damage to the other components of the engine too.
Engine System Fault
Well, most of the Range Rovers don’t take in this problem. However, a few owner have reported this problem.
Over 100km/h, a message starts appearing on the dashboard showing “Engine System Fault”. After this pops out, the engine slows down and it takes too long to get to 120km/h. That’s nasty, isn’t it? And the story doesn’t end here. The problem get worse with the passage of time and the only solution in this situation is a complete inspection by a mechanic and that’s that.
Solution:
There are numerous root causes of Engine System Fault and what you are ought to do is to just give a look-see to all of these causes and that’s that. What you get to do is:
Upgrade the software of the vehicle
Turn off the speed limit control
Replacing the anti-particulate filter would be icing on the cake in this situation
On the grounds that you have given a look-see to all the common problems in the engines of Range Rover, you can take care of the few minor repairs yourself if you have encountered any of the aforementioned issues.

Causes of Engine Misfire
Engine misfires are common phenomena for most of vehicle users, but they can be as mysterious as they can get. The most frustrating thing in this entire issue is the lack of information that often come in disguise of valid ones but are actually myths. The reason behind these confusing ideas might be the varied symptoms that each vehicle show before the engine starts misfiring. But overall the mechanics choose to describe this misbehavior of engine as a stumble or as a slight hesitation in the delivery of power. Generally speaking, engine misfires can be both temporary or continuous that at times can even generate a check-engine error message. But do not panic. Know it beforehand to handle it in a smarter way, if at all it happens, after knowing how to prevent it.
So, here we go with the explanation and picturization of car engine misfires as we collected them from the team of mechanics of the Morganton Chevrolet dealer.
Explaining an Engine Misfire
Whenever we want to get into the bottom of things that trouble us, the golden rule is to find out the causes. That was the rule we followed when we wanted to know how an engine misfire takes place. what could be triggering this disorder?  We can start with the common-sense knowledge of the engine that needs basic three components to send fire to the cylinder, one is the fuel for the ignition system, then oxygen to burn the fuel, and then a spark that will ignite.
If any of these elements go missing, the cylinder will fail to generate the expected amount of bang. Though that might be appear to be the simplest form of diagnosis, there can be other reasons why the cylinder causes a misfire like wrong ignition timing, valve spring wear,  or vacuum leaks.
Issue with the Spark
Ignition parts are made to control the sparks ignited to an engine. They are primarily those parts that are purposely made to serve the entire life, but then it does wear after delivering enough performance and needs to be replaced time to time. Likewise, the Spark plugs too are found in cheap rates and can be easily swapped within a few minutes. The old Ignition wires on the other hand can start showing signs of wear and tear asking for a replacement as well. In yet older vehicles the issue can be with the traditional distributor that just needs to get a new cap and a rotor. The set of coils found on modern cars though expensive can be easily repaired.
Issue with the Fuel
As we learned from the Morganton Chevrolet dealership service center, sometimes, it can also be the fuel system that is the culprit behind an engine misfire. Though the fuel parts are meant to last longer but you cannot help if it wears out over a period of time. In that case, just check if the fuel filter got clogged up, or if the fuel injectors have accumulated dirt. If these parts do not show any damage, it could be the fuel pump or even the airflow sensor that can trigger the failure of engine ignition.

What the check engine light means Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Omaha NE: Sensors in your engine monitor the operation of its various systems and connect to what’s called the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system.
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Omaha NE: Picture this scenario: You’re behind your wheel and in the middle of a long drive when the check engine light on your dashboard starts flashing. Prior to 1996 (this is before California and New York started to collapse financially), car manufacturers had their own engine diagnostic systems primarily to check if the vehicle was in conformance to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pollution control requirements.
Importance of the Check Engine Light Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Omaha NE: The car’s computer operates and monitors the car’s engine and reports any fault to the driver through the check engine light.
Solving check engine light problems Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Omaha NE: The first step is to read the code provided by the car’s computer system. Common causes of a check engine light A number of problems can cause your check engine light to come on, but some are more common than others.
COST How Much It Costs To Fix A Car's 'Check Engine' Problems
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Omaha NE: With both new-car prices and fuel costs on the rise, today’s motorists are feeling the proverbial pinch, but at least there’s some good news to report from the automotive affordability front. The average cost to fix a “check engine light” related issue decreased by 10% over the last year, and it's 15% less than in 2006.
Here's how deep you'll have to dig into your wallet, on average, to cover the cost of the 10 most expensive fixes (including parts and labor), as determined by CarMD: ● Replace engine: $7,050 ● Replace electronic power steering unit: $5,201 ● Replace transmission assembly/reprogram electronic control module: $5,130 ● Replace transmission and torque converter: $5,051 ● Replace audio and visual control unit: $4,29 ● Replace transmission case and torque converter: $4,245 ● Replace hybrid-car battery/reprogram electronic control module: $4,149 ● Replace compu-valve module: $4,105 ● Replace transmission assembly: $3,905 ● Replace hybrid-car battery $3,798
On the other hand, the resulting error code could specify a relatively inexpensive fix, as evidenced by the 10 cheapest check-engine problems identified by CarMD:
● Inspect/replace (if necessary) loose fuel cap: $26 ● Replace air conditioning compressor clutch relay: $38 ● Replace electronic engine control fuse: $46 ● Perform diagnostic trouble code confirmation: $47 ● Repair engine/body ground wire: $48 ● Clean ground wire: $49 ● Replace exhaust gas recirculation boost sensor vacuum hose: $52 ● Inspect for correct air filter and ensure air box is latched properly: $53 ● Replace electronic throttle control system fuse: $53 ● Replace secondary air injection control solenoid valve vacuum hose: $55
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is my check engine light on?
Checking Engine Light Is On Help Service near Omaha NE: Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) is the computer that monitors the normal operating range of the different components in your vehicle.
The experts at Virginia Tire & Auto will use our top-of-the-line diagnostic tools, run road tests and take a deep dive into your vehicle until we can guarantee your car is fixed and road-ready.
