orion’s main dance, lead rap, & center junghoon
dos’s main dance, main rap, & center mobius entertainment; acting, variety 10 vocal / 20 rap / 30 dance
always the free spirit with a sharp tongue and a sharp mind to match, junghoon lived a fairly decent life his first few years on the earth. born on an american military base in south korea to two loving, caring parents, he was raised to be strong and independent. both of his parents being the new age type who pushed him to break the norm of what was expected to go above and beyond. they never treated him like something fragile that could be broken, and he loved that. he appreciated the tough love he was given. without it, he wouldn’t have been able to find the confidence to be himself.
his plans for the future were quite simple. while he respected the military and the shoulders, that wasn’t something that he could see himself doing for the rest of his life. deep within his heart, he knew what he wanted to do - he wanted to dance. it had been something that he had always wanted to do. the dance studio near the military base he lived on was his outlet. he begged and pleaded with his parents to allow him to take part in it, and after months of asking, they finally relented. they knew that he wouldn’t stop asking until he got what he wanted, him being the stubborn little boy that he was. he was eleven years old when he joined the children’s branch of the dance studio.
that was also around the time that life decided to flip the script on him and bite him on the ass.
rain, something that junghoon once loved dearly, is now something that he can’t stand the sight of. the reason that he can’t stand it is because it was raining the day that he found out that his father had been diagnosed with cancer. it was one of the most depressing days of his life. he didn’t know how to process the information he had just received. what was worse? his parents had known for over a year about his diagnosis and they didn’t want to tell him about it. they wanted to keep him in the dark to “protect him” as they put it. they only decided to tell him when his father was too far gone and the chemotherapy treatments had stopped working. he was on a countdown to his final days and junghoon’s world was falling apart.
when his father did pass away not even six months later, he couldn’t help but resent both of his parents. they had hid something so crucial and important, and he wished he had known sooner. maybe if he had known sooner, he would have been more prepared for what was to come. to add insult to injury, his mother was being called into active duty not even a year later. even though she didn’t have enough time to properly grieve, she had to go serve her country.
he was placed in the care of his parents’ closest friends because they didn’t have any family members of their own. but they lived in south korea, so he had to pack up what was left of his life and move to gangnam when he was thirteen years old.
for a while, he decided to put his dreams of being a dancer to rest. he couldn’t find the motivation to do so anymore, especially after the death of his father. he was one half of his support system, his core strength, and without him he felt empty. he could survive, but he didn’t want to. not without him. it took his then guardians months to convince him to wake up and to reignite his passion once again. they had to remind him that his mother and father wouldn’t want him to give up on his dream, and that they would be so proud of him if he were to make it big like he always planned to.
so with that in mind, he started dancing again. when he was sixteen, he began auditioning for companies. most of the companies he auditioned for slammed their doors in his face, but he was determined. there were plenty of companies in korea for him to choose from, and he wouldn’t stop until he found one. even though he had to balance his schooling along with his search for a company, he never gave up despite at times being exhausted.
funnily enough, the company that would be his home for the next near decade wasn’t one that he went to; it was one that came to him.
the mundane task of eating tteok-bokki at a convenience store was the beginning of his journey to becoming an idol. he hadn’t been expecting to have someone approach him with the offer of being an idol. an up and coming company had just started up, and they were looking for fresh faces for their flagship boy group. the offer had been appealing, very tempting to say the least. so without much thought, a young and naive seventeen year old junghoon accepted the offer.
he quickly found out that being an idol was a lot more work than he thought it would be. he wasn’t the best singer, which he knew, but his dancing skills were some of the best of the dozen or so male trainees that were in the running for debuting. which was to be expected. since he wasn’t the best singer, they put him through intensive training to be a rapper, something he hadn’t really considered doing before. by the time the several months long process ended, junghoon was gifted with the positions of main dancer and lead rapper.
being met with a decent amount of success from their debut, junghoon was happy. he was glad that he had listened to the people in his life and that he hadn’t given up his dream. he knew that his father would be proud of him, and his mother told him how proud of him she was whenever they found the time to talk on the phone with one another. 2012 rolled around and he was chosen to be one of two members for the subunit mobius was putting together. it was hard work trying to balance both orion and dos, but he had always enjoyed a challenge, and he had never been one to give up easily, his past had taught him that.
with 2013 came a long hiatus for the entire group, mostly due to military enlistment. since he and the other member of dos were of the youngest in the group, they could continue promoting while the other went off and did their enlistment. it was also during that time that junghoon was given different opportunities to branch out into, such as acting, modeling and variety. he ended up finding a small niche in the acting community, small acting roles here and there before finally building up to something bigger in 2016, right before orion was scheduled for a comeback as an entire group. he hadn’t been on stage with the entirety of his group for years, so that particular comeback was something that he was looking forward to and enjoyed promoting with them.
with almost a decade as an idol under his belt, junghoon knows that soon enough, both orion and dos will be old news. with the sudden surge of new acts in the industry, it’s only a matter of time before they lose even more popularity. it was a tough pill to swallow, still is, but he’s made peace with it; for the most part. a part of him is still bitter that all of it seemed to have gone away in a blink of an eye, and he’s trying his best to milk the last bit of fame they have before settling into another niche, whether that be full time acting, modeling or variety.
