Everyone in Ryuki feels like they came from different genres and desperately want to be a part of those instead of the show they're actually in, but I feel like Shinji and Asakura are the most stark examples of this
Shinji is practically tailor-made to be in a sitcom, like everything about his job at Ore Journal is a setup for its own show where Shinji is the plucky new employee with too much enthusiasm who really brings the team together
But that narrative is swiftly and brutally ripped away from him, as Shinji the comedy man is now forced into the world's most complicated trolley problem in the form of a to-the-death battle royale
Meanwhile, Asakura is on the exact opposite end of the spectrum - he wants to be a slasher movie villain so much but his craving for violence is never satisfied because despite everything about him... he's in a Kamen Rider show. His strongest weapons are made to sell toys
He's trying his hardest to get as much violence past the censors as possible, but he can only get so far when everyone's wearing armor that the costume designers refuse to ruin. The closest he gets to achieving his horror movie potential is in the Kamen Rider Brave special, to my knowledge, and that's because it didn't air on television
Neither of them want to be in this show but it's for completely different reasons and I find that both hilarious and interesting at the same time
