suddenly struck with thoughts about the devastating concept of Jason Todd

because he was good. because he had a bleeding heart despite every reason not to. he loved school and was good at it. he was the first to be adopted, with little pretense of guardianship. he did everything he could to be a perfect Robin and live up to an impossible ideal. he only ever wanted Bruce and Dick to like him.

because he met Bruce in the same place and on the same day that Bruce's parents died--the single defining moment of Batman's existence. and he made Batman laugh. he hit the Dark Knight, Terror of Gotham, with a tire iron. he wasn't afraid of the man who turned fear into a weapon.

because he couldn't save his mother from herself, but he tried. because he was too good not to try and save the woman who gave him up. too good to play the Joker's game. the crowbar didn't kill him, the bomb did. he died knowing he wouldn't make it and tried anyway. he died a hero.

because other Robins have died, but none of them put an irrevocable tear in the mythos of Batman. because Jason Todd always dies, in every universe. he dies for the sins of his father. he was put to death by popular vote, sacrificed by the crowd. doomed by the narrative and doomed by the audience. the boy who only ever tried to prove he was good enough--wasn't good enough.

because he has every reason to be angry. because he didn't ask to be murdered, didn't ask to be brought back, and when he did everyone acted like he was better off dead. Bruce tried to kill him and nearly succeeded. he's blamed for his own death and blamed for his resurrection. he can never come home because the house is haunted by his own ghost.

because he's been the hero, the victim, and the villain. because his family and his writers and his universe don't know what to make of him. they don't know how to look his tragedy in the eye. and how can you?

it hurts to look at the hero who cannot be good enough, the victim who will only ever be angry, the villain who can sometimes be right. the audience hates to feel complicit and, in this exceptional case, they are.

Something that bugs me about arcane s2 ....is that Isha seemed to just exist to die and make Jinx more miserable

Think about It...all of her scenes are her bonding with/protecting Jinx (yes she has a few with Vander but those arent many)

She is a plot deviece used by the writers to put Jinx in a better place and then in a worse one after her sacrifice

And it wasnt even necessary !

Jinx killed Silco her father figure at the end of season 1, shes already in a Bad mental state in season 2 ' s first act ! Why not let her spiral down further from there? Or give her Isha to slowly let her heal and then keep it that way!

Killing a child character off just to develop another Just doesnt seem like good writing !

Leo shoves Jason down onto his back, climbing into his lap. “Be good” he demands

It feels like a switch is flipped, all the playful poking narrowing down to just Leo and whatever he wants from him. As always, his Leo clocks the shift as soon as it happens

“You wanna be good?” Jason just bites his lip and nods “I need words cariño”

“Wanna be good” he parrots back, starting to shift up into Leo

“Stay still” Leo tells him gently, setting a light hand on his shoulder “Stay where I put you”

Jason relaxes right back down, arms limp beside him, already at Leo’s mercy

“My poor man, is this what you needed all day?” Leo fake pouts at him “Was I too busy to keep you in line?”

“Uh-huh”

“But you want what I want right” Leo tells more than asks, gently petting over Jason’s chest and neck “you wanna be good for me”

“Yes yes” “Please yes”

“Think you can you be a little rough for me” Leo prompts all soft and lovely above him, Jason has to close his eyes against the sight “gonna hold me down and take care of me?”

“For you, yes”

“But your gonna listen” Leo’s gentle petting turns harsh as he makes a fist in Jason’s hair and forces him to look at him “You’ll do as I say”

“Yes”

“Say it back”

“I do as you say”

Leo grins at him, the harsh grip easing so he can go back to petting, but Jason doesn't move where his Leo has angled his head “Good. Your so good, say you’re good for me”

Jason shudders with the words, letting out a long whine

Leo frowns a little “Please mi cielo”

“M’ good” he gets out in a breathy rush “good for you m’ good”

“Good boy” Leo takes his face in his hand, thumbing over his cheek “My good sweet boy, your having trouble with words huh”

Jason leans hard into Leo’s hand “Uh huh”

“We can go easy on you” “you just gotta do colors now okay”

“Uh-huh”

“Give me your color so I know you can do it”

“M’ green”

“Good boy, such a good boy” he kisses Jason on the cheek “you ready to start”

ngl the sowing of the dragon seeds was so stupid in the show. ‘spread the word to king’s landing-ers (what is the term for them) targaryen bastards to claim dragons’ as if dragonstone didn’t hold all of the bastards who attempted bookwise, but i guess that plays into the lack of world or infrastructure building. it also wasn’t a free for all buffet for vermithor, only one person tried at a time; until eventually addam, hugh, ulf, and NETTLES succeeded.

dragonstone has villages and its own network of civilians! rhaenyra did not go on a wild goose chase through mysaria to find any random person with silver hair! jace took advantage of this being the targaryens ancestral seat to recruit those with valyrian descent because their side NEEDED dragons, especially after rhaenys/meleys are killed. it was jace’s idea solely, since rhaenyra was out of the picture on account of her dealing with debilitating grief. the general gist is there but the execution and overall understanding is terrible and opens up several more plot holes, including but not limited to further vilifying rhaenyra (in an attempt to pave the way for ‘mad queen daenerys’ most likely, along with justifying her descent into ‘tyrany’ AND denying how misogyny is what ultimately kills her, not whatever made up war crimes they’re continuously pinning on her instead of her mass murdering brothers) and to remove key tactical decisions jace made as prince of dragonstone, which is what keeps relegating him to the sidelines rather than right in the action like he should be.
