Monday morning (sad trombone)
Here I was hoping for a little bit of that ‘TSA back of the hand’ groping. Alas, no such luck this morning.
Flight 1 of 16 (or possibly 18) this month coming up.

For whenever you get back: how often do game devs go travel for meetings? I imagine executive decision makers do it frequently and trench level devs almost never do it.
Tumblr media
You're generally right. It's expensive to have people traveling, so they usually reserve it for the executive and studio head levels. Those folks do the bulk of the traveling since they're the ones who need to meet with people from multiple studios - usually to see project progress, ask questions, and get answers. Being in the studio means that the people representing the studio can pull in other studio workers and subject experts as needed to answer specific questions.
Tumblr media
I usually travel for work once or twice a year, mostly because I'm a permanently remote developer now and my studio wants to pull us in for face to face time every so often in order to build team cohesion. The main goal is to reinforce the relationships within the team, and having events where we can meet up in person helps a lot with that. Fully remote studios will have regular on-site meetups at venues and such for similar reasons. Add in a conference or two and that's pretty much my total travel allowance.

Had a fantastic time with a local miner named Shane. He told me a lot about local history and cuisine ( Huckleberry is a local delicacy apparently) He also took me to Montana which completed a personal record of five states in 4 days.

How to spend a day in Darmstadt
Spend a day in Darmstadt, a hidden gem in the Hesse region in Germany #travel #explore #Deutschland
The German cultural gem you’ve probably never heard of Darmstadt is a medieval town that is now home to heavy industry and punctuated by a number of art nouveau buildings. It is located in central-west Germany about 20km from Frankfurt. Like Frankfurt, it is home to a number of major German companies and tends to attract business travellers more than tourists. With this in mind, you are unlikely…

Please, make room in the overhead compartment
Will this sad world change,
one useless meeting at a time?
Would my future prospects improve,
with each new project in my bag?
Should my friends care less for me,
every time I meet them with half a heart?
"Jein", answers my seat neighbor, annoyed,
at both his pair of toddlers and my ranting.
"Tap tap tap", replies my boss's boss's MacBook,
interested in everything but my silly philosophizing.
There'll be then, no answers in this A320.
I shall try and find them though.
A project at a time, a meeting at a time,
and specially, always with a full heart.

A Pragmatic and surprisingly comforting perspective about the Trump 2nd Presidency from the ACLU
***Apologies if this is how you found out the 2024 election results***
Blacked out part is my name.

I’m not going to let this make me give up. It’s disheartening, and today I will wallow, probably tomorrow too
AND
I will continue to do my part in my community to spread the activism and promote change for the world I want to live in. I want to change the world AND help with the dishes.
And I won’t let an orange pit stain be what stops me from trying to be better.
A link to donate to the ACLU if able and inclined. I know I am

Throwback Jan 22, 2019. A narrow parking backyard in some odd Munich hotel. Somewhat recent past compared to other old posts in here, yet from a different life. Annual kick-off event with my former company. The usual conflicting sentiments of having a good time with some great colleagues while general structure and mood in the organization already was deterioriating back then. (And, remember diving into a wholly different kind of darkness all along a lengthy conversation with the night porter in that particular place. It doesn't get more "gothic" than that.)

I didn't want to post about it at the time but I just spent the last two weeks working at the Pokemon Card + Yu Gi Oh + MtG + Lorcana + sports card factory and it was pretty fucking cool
I got to see where they print, cut, sort, and package the cards. I didn't get any souvenirs but my coworkers and I did pick up some booster packs from Target to open at dinner. I just regret not bringing my Lorcana decks with me to.... get them autographed? leave them inside the server rooms as Easter Eggs? Idk what I would have done but it would have been cool

The Role of Technology in Modern Business Travel
Technology has revolutionized business travel in ways we couldn’t have imagined a decade ago. From booking platforms to AI-driven travel assistants, modern tools simplify and streamline the travel experience.
Online platforms allow travelers to book flights, hotels, and transportation in minutes. These platforms often provide competitive rates and customized recommendations, enhancing convenience. Meanwhile, apps like TripIt consolidate all travel details into a single, easily accessible format.
Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly significant role. AI-powered chatbots assist with travel queries, while machine learning algorithms offer personalized suggestions based on preferences. These innovations save time and reduce the stress of planning trips.
Moreover, virtual and augmented reality technologies are gaining traction. VR tours allow travelers to preview hotels and meeting venues before committing to reservations. This ensures better decision-making and satisfaction.
As technology advances, its impact on business travel will only grow. By leveraging these tools, companies can optimize costs and improve employee experiences.
