Hello world! I have internet now (power came back on 3/4 hours ago) and this is a WILD time. My little mountain community I grew up in and the surrounding areas are struggling heavily lately and the emergency responders are so busy and they themselves can’t even reach everyone who needs checking in on due to flooding, mudslides, sinkholes, and over all inability to GET to the patients in need. Everyone please send healing and loving energies to Western NC, the rural surrounding areas alongside creeks/rivers, Burnsville NC, Marshall NC, Hendersonville NC, everyone is hanging tight and leaning on family, neighbors, and overall community. And no one has had phone signal for days, so unless they have now regained power (internet)
We are good over here and the animals have been very brave during the storms and going potty outside, and hanging with us in the candlelight, flashlight glows, and watching the little rascals and crazy rich Asians via the iPad (because it’s all we had downloaded) the animals have been so snuggly and helpful during all this.

Volunteers Needed in Burnsville, NC
A relief org is needing help sorting through donated clothes. They write:
Volunteers needed in Burnsville to help sort these clothes it’s way out of hand. 120 Reservoir Road Burnsville, NC.
Come anytime please bring totes or boxes if you can if not it’s ok. Don’t have to sign up just come to Roses you can miss the giant pile of clothes on your left.
Get rid of the ones with holes, stains etc. sort the rest into size. Most important thing people need is jackets and warm clothes.
I know this isn’t thrilling work but it’s needed so we can use the good winter clothes here in these piles and there is a lot of good clothes. If you can just come a couple hours it helps.
Text Tracie for any questions. 704-297-5381 SIDE NOTE (from Taka): Consider donating new clothing or even money. Yes, it's more expensive up front, but it's less expansive overall than having used clothes eat up space and labor that could be directed to other things. And it's a guarantee that folks will get good items.

if’n you follow this blog, you likely love appalachia, or at least the aesthetic of it that i cultivate on here. i am begging yall: love us here, yes, but please remember to also love us in-person. don’t forget about us. my home, WNC, has been absolutely walloped by this hurricane. they’ve been devastated, and once the media stops talking about us (which they hardly talked about us to begin with) we’ll still be in ruins and we’ll still need help. donate directly to mutual aid organizations and to small businesses who are trying to recover.

Located in Burnsville in Yancey County, North Carolina. This arch was the entrance to the Mt. Mitchell Boys Camp that was there in the 1930s-40s. The camp closed due to WWII and was then purchased by Frank Stanley Herring and was an art school, Burnsville Painting Classes through the 1950s. When Herring died in early 1960s, they started their own painting school that opened in 1965 on Phillips Knob. Kivette operated the school on his own from 1972 until early 2000s. He and his wife Ruth left a trust to maintain and operate Herring-Kivette Gallery and Archives in Yancey Library. There are regular exhibits including work by both Herring and Kivette.

Photos and words taken from various Facebook posts:
Appalachia was never prepared for this.
I’m sharing in hopes to raise more awareness and also to encourage any type of support that can be provided to Appalachians.
Entire towns have essentially just been washed away. So many people have lost everything they had, some even losing loved ones.
Below are some organizations I have been seeing locals share to help with the recovery efforts:
-RISE Erwin https://gofund.me/bad8e5ab
-American Red Cross https://www.redcross.org/donate/dr/hurricane-helene.html
-Unicoi County Animal Shelter https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=QRXK7CAJK2GCE
-Report Missing Persons 1-800-824-3463
-United Way of East TN Highlands https://unitedwayetnh.org/help/
There is a lot more to the NC Mountains than Asheville.
Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Vilas, Sugar Grove, Elk Park, West Jefferson, Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Sylva, Cullowhee, Brevard, Bryson City, Hendersonville, Cherokee, Waynesville, Burnsville, Candler, Canton, Spruce Pine, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Linville, Marshall, Maggie Valley, Newland, Grandfather, Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Old Fort, Morganton, Marion are just a few of the cities and towns that have been flooded and/or destroyed. The counties of Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Ashe, Watauga, Transylvania, Burke, Caldwell, Alleghany, Madison, Buncombe, McDowell, Rutherford, Polk, Henderson, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Clay, Cherokee, and Swain are devastated and in need of the same help, some even more.
Other counties that fall under various definitions of Western North Carolina include: Alexander County, Catawba County, Cleveland County, Surry County and Yadkin County. When these counties are added, they form a total regional area of roughly 11,750 square miles (30,400 km2). This makes the region roughly the size of Massachusetts. Western North Carolina holds 11% of the state's population.
There are millions of people up there with no electricity, no communication, no water, and no way to get out or let rescue teams even know where they are. I am not taking anything away from Asheville and the utter destruction there or any other areas in NC that have damage. The level of destruction is unimaginable. But it's not one or two cities or towns that are in need of help.
This does not include the destroyed areas in the Tennessee mountains, Western Virginia, Georgia, or South Carolina.

“She’s homeless now”.
Friend David called earlier to express his thanks for those who helped the South Toe Volunteer Fire Company and to give me an update on conditions in Burnsville, North Carolina ( near Asheville).
We’re decimated down here. People lost everything. I’m well, I flew home from a work assignment to help and spent the past days lending a hand to our Fire Department.
We got on Bobcats and tractors and carved out new roads so emergency vehicles could get through. Laid two layers of stone so the State can come in and finish it off with a top layer.
XXXX, you’d made clear to me that you prefer donating directly to people in need rather than organizations and I have a friend who really needs help - she’s homeless now. I promise this money will go directly to Tammy.
Tumblrs, I have known David for decades. His pledge is now my pledge. I promise your donations will go directly to a woman in desperate need of your help.
If you can skip Starbucks today and send along $5.00 you will help someone with NOTHING.
Should you have any questions your messages are welcome.
Thank you.
D.

Bullshit! So tired of the lying!
NCNG took the fall to cover for the CNG helicopter (were they CNG pilots?)
But the person they are REALLY covering for is Alejandro Mayorkas.
This ADS-B track (as well as tracks for other aircraft) disappear near Burnsville, NC at low altitudes (likely due to terrain)
If this incident was an NCNG UH-60 then account for the CNG UH-60 in the same exact area at the same time.
And what about the incident involving the Chinook?

@jillwagner - My good friend Emily over at @happyhensandhighlands lives in the small town of Burnsville, North Carolina. Along with so many others, it has been hit very hard by the hurricane. I reached out to her to see if there was anything that I could do on my end. She mentioned that supplies were very low in that area. As he always does, God has perfect timing. I just happened to speak to my friend (@herzog01 ) who is driving his truck to a town about 15 minutes away from Burnsville, North Carolina. He was willing to take supplies so a group of us went to @herzog01 Walmart to fill his truck up. Thank you @walmart for your donation to the cause ! Thank you to the manager at Walmart ( Candy ) for your support ! Thank you @findbryon, Will and @lisaheldjanke for being awesome humans ! Lisa and I are heading back to Walmart tomorrow morning and delivering supplies to Sevierville to an amazing gentleman ( Les) who owns headingscenichelicoptertours and @wild_magnolia_farms and is willing to use one of his helicopters to fly more supplies in . My friend @happyhensandhighlands has started a go fund me , if you want to give to her , she is sending the money to people who will buy supplies and get it to Les or others who can drive it in . Thank you for any support !!! Her go fund me is https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-provide-relief-for-hurricane-helene-victims-of-wnc I will also post a link in my stories and in my bio !!! The news out of Spruce Pine and Burnsville NC is horrifying. I’ve heard they’re not receiving aid and there is looting and violence, and that dead bodies are floating in flooded parking lots in Spruce Pine. I can’t confirm but…. I don’t even know what to say. God have mercy on us.

The Celo Inn is located at 45 Seven Mile Ridge Road in Burnsville, NC. It was built by Charles and Susannah Jones over a period of almost ten years. With the help of their many friends around Celo Community, they created a charming retreat that separates itself from all other bed and breakfasts in the NC mountains. The Celo Inn admitted its first guests in 1983.
Details like the cozy dormered nooks, exposed timbers, burnished wood and soft tile were inspired by their love of Europe’s hostels and inns. Susannah decorated the Celo Inn with her elaborate embroidery and quilts. Numerous neighborhood artists each left their mark. They shared their paintings, stained glass, ceramic tiles, wood work and more with the new inn.
