Several Short Games, Part 2

Last time I got through about half of the games that Lily gave me. Here's the rest of them, including the one that's much longer than the others.

queerweird (Jeni Usborn, 2016) The game queerweird (lowercase mandatory) is an asymmetrical indie game for three people in shorts around a fire pit. The game's "safety rules" section directly addresses that last point, and you find out quickly that that's because the resolution mechanics include kicking at the firepit. Other resolution mechanics include yelling loud enough to get an echo or making out with one person until the third one gets uncomfortable. Really, queerweird isn't meant to be played. The art seems mostly like it's Usborn's private kink stash touched up to a minimum of reasonability. Cool stuff: Look, if I didn't sell you on it already then there's no cool stuff in here for you.

Giant Robots on Spreadsheets (Henry Stein, 2007) When you have someone who is very, very mathy writing a game, they generally write about a thousand pages of Very Arithmetic game rules involving space, mecha, or both. I know because I did that once. Mechanical engineer Henry Stein went several steps further. He simplified it all down to reasonable heuristics, transferred it to one massive Excel sheet that did all the work for you, and gave it tabs that would let you look up the rules by keyword. He distributed this at-cost on USB 2.0 keys in .xls format. What's that? You have a computer with a USB 3.0 ports and can only read .xlsx format? Yeah, such was the fate of my mathy space game written in WordPerfect as well. Cool stuff: The game balance is impeccable.

Uncomfortable Erotic Tension Cultivator (ListyMcListerson, 2019). UETC is a two-player game / foreplay tool. It is the 21st-century, slightly grown up, itch-diaspora equivalent of naughty dice. (Not Naughty & Dice, that's different.) Cool stuff: Meant to be used over the course of several days to, as the name says, build tension. It puts you into an actual scenario rather than just being "Roll the dice and hope it comes out hot."

ARCANO, the Game of Rules, Magic, and Regulations (Little, Burco, and Frane, 2014) ARCANO is a 5-volume set, outweighing all the other books on this list put together. Each book is in 12x12 inch format, and the whole set makes up a one-foot cube. The books are: character creation, core rules, summoning, shadow magic, and bibliomancy. There are just those three classes. Individually, the rules are not particularly intricate or complex, but there are a lot of them. Cool stuff: The bibliomancy book. Not only is it put together in a way that makes it a useful tool at the game table, but it turns all four other books into bibliomantic resources as well. There are acrostics and anagrams and all kinds of neat things hidden away in it. It's a shame the authors of the other books couldn't keep up.

Just Let's Make Pretend (AnonymousIsMyUsername, 2023). JLMP is a diceless game, if you can even really call it a game. It's like someone wrote down a set of instructions for "make-believe" just in case we ever needed to explain the concept to martians. It's not poorly-written, but you don't need it. Cool stuff: Cites its sources. If you're looking for people who are studying RPGs as a scholarly pursuit, the reference section in JLMP is an excellent place to start.

second born and first daughter, zehra was born on a very windy, more than typical, day and she came out screaming as if to let the world know she had arrived. doted from a young age, many told them how not only was she adorable and that she had the face of angel but that she was destined for great things. zehra was a quiet child, always her head in a book or with her mother.

Zehra from a young age was taught by her parents that the greatest idea was for House Vance, known for their great army, to be prosperous and she couldn’t agree more with them. she was a quick learner, following along what ever learning they had for her as well as many other quick lessons. she did develop a for sewing (making outfits & other things).

when zee became of age, oh how her life changed. She was out there being amongst the people and her parents began talks of marriage with many houses to build alliances with. she knows her whole life has been planned for this the moment she was born and sometimes has had thoughts of what would her life be if she could do something different but knows to put those thoughts behind. she wants to continue the family legacy. it was a joyous night when it became known the Great House Tully wanted to wed their son & heir to her. She didn't think much of the lord having talked with him a few times before but this was what she had been taught for.

zehra, married into the tully family to elevated her own family status and was expected to just do her duties as his wife but ended falling in love with the lord. from their love came a son and there where talks of having more children. he was kind gentle soul who loved his house, was a great ruling lord, and its people adored him but the disease from the north travelled and sadly the lord got sick then passed away.

since their son is still pretty young (under 5 years old) to rule she quickly jumped to take control of the riverlands for their safety. she's knows their are people who want them out of the seat but also has people who support her & her son. is wary to her late husband's sibling who many think would be a better fit.

when it comes to the targaryen's, she hopes to keep the current standing of the riverlands as neutral and friendly as possible while also trying to be a momma shark and protect her son from those who want to use him for their own gain. coming to the capital has her a bit on edge as she is travelling with her son but hopes that coming her can help build connections and support.

Personality wise, Zehra is your typical social butterfly but also determined with her goal of making sure her family is safe. can talk your ear off like no other but has a way that when they are with others, they just blurt everything to her. Zee can be a bit sarcastic and reckless, maybe it comes with everything having somehow always been in her favor and knowing she has others around who can support her. though sometimes her sardonic nature makes an appearance and sometimes her mouth has a tendency of speaking before she thinks and it could lead to her getting in trouble.

Ships came natural to her, whether being able to make friends real easy or jumping straight into a relationship with someone. with friends, she’ll be loyal, the one to take care of you when sick, the one you could use for any excuse. though the minute you cross her or if you do something to those she cares about, its over between you both and might fight you.

with love, its something she is still trying to figure out herself. sure she had crushes on others as a young girl but could never entertain the idea as she knew her parents were going to put her into an arrange marriage. while she had a great love with her husband, she has put that part of her behind to focus on raising her son but that doesn't mean it cant find her again.

昨日は僕の23回目の誕生日だった。 大体暇な僕なので、誕生日に予定が入っている訳がない。平日だし家族も帰ってくるのか分からないから、直前に大学のいつものメンバーに声をかけて、自主企画で当日の朝に30-31で相模原のAirbnbを予約した。 約束の時間通りに来たのは2人で、僕もバスを1本逃し遅れた。車で来る真と鈴一郎、僕を含めて11人に声を掛けて、全員来るはずの誕生日会が、5人でスタートした。真と僕と大地で車で15分のマルエツに向かいBBQの食材の買い出しに言った。買い出しのチョイスにおいて、一切のセンスがない真と早く美味しく食べれれば何でもいい僕。そして悠長にBBQの買い出しセットをネットで検索する大地。買い出しは成功して帰宅した。そして、火を起こしていると、ワイン片手に余裕な顔してBurcoが到着した。 Burcoが来た事で、いつもの楽しさが帰ってきた気がした。珍しく僕がDJをしながら、DJと言ってもただお酒飲んだ時のプレイリスト“body high”を流してただけ。BBQをしてお酒を飲んでいい感じになっていると、茂佑と辰弥と奈々が橋本駅に到着したらしく、駅まで車で迎えにいった。1人足りないが、概ね全員揃い、いつもの宴が再開した。薪割りや、ひたすら肉とビールで腹を満たしたので、音に身を委ね踊っていた。 昔から僕がvlogみたいな動画と撮って編集してYouTubeに乗っけてたら、そのDNAがみんなに伝染し、みんなも撮り出して、常時3台のカメラが回っている状況になっていた。早く編集した動画と写真が見たいね。待ちきれない。

日付も変わり31日になった。 サプライズの誕生日ケーキを食し、暑い中、マシュマロと共に焚き火に溶かされた。その後は花火をするために、宿舎から5分ほど離れた道路に繰り出した。1本1本袋から丁寧に花火を取り出す茂佑に、楽しげな顔をして何もしない奈々、度々車が通る中、辰弥のヘッドライを感知からの、「車来たよー」の声と共に、歩道までみんなで走る。私達のチームワークの良さが顕著に表れていた。走りたくなるほど、気持ちよくて、辰弥はいつも通り上裸になっていた。ひたすら気持ちよさそうに踊っているBurcoに、肩組んで撮影会をしている半パンのDJ森田と鈴一郎。さすが、みんなのふたりって感じ。 部屋に戻って寝る人や、庭で談笑する人がいる中、僕にゼミ選択を裏切られた田中の6％のスマホに電話の通知が来た。多喜乃君だ。埼玉でバイトの飲み会があると以前から言っていて、私がずっとラブコールをしていたが、こねーのかなーって思ってた。通話が開始されると、いかにも近所であるような風景と多喜乃のまだ見慣れない坊主の多喜乃。まじでテンション上がった。ラストピースが揃った。これでGaito Suzuki Legendsは完成した。日は跨いでしまったが、埼玉から片道2時間半くらい。本当に来てくれてありがとう。 それからは、大富豪して適当な部屋で就寝した。

寝る前にバッグのカバンを開けたら、Marlboro Gold が入ってたよ。

前日の夜に電話をかけたアルティは、きっとなんかあるんだろうなと言って開けていたらしい。大地はvlogを撮り続けてくれて、教職の実習後に直で来る奈々、9時半に到着して朝6時くらいに出発する異次元の体力を持つ女・茂佑と辰弥。2023年の同じ日にベルリンに着弾した鈴一郎、電車が今でも苦手な田中、最近ちょっとデビルな多喜乃と、刺激をくれでたけど最近はどちらかと言うと安心感なBurcoと真。僕の誕生日の為に10人集まってくれるの、意味がわからないし、感謝しきれない。本当にありがとう！

31日の朝からの話はまた別の日にしよう。
