MONDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “We’re Alive” by Kris Ryder… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ2XeA-0gPE …Like a day at the beach in Kokomo, this song is about a man who runs into an old girlfriend after she’s been down a sad road, but now they’re together and glad to be alive! Chris Andrews a.k.a. Kris Ryder presents this upbeat reggae-fied Motown-ish New Wave power pop/synthpop anthem—with fab guitar work by guitarist Phil Palmer (Eric Clapton, David Essex, Dire Straits, Wishbone Ash) + big harmonies by Kris with Dominic Bugatti and Frank Musker (who co-wrote Queen’s “Too Much Love Will Kill You”). This track was produced by Christopher Neil (A-ha, Sheena Easton). On a cosmic jukebox this song would play somewhere between The Beach Boys, The Buggles, and Men at Work.

🇺🇸 Gerard Kenny – Living On Music - 1980 I discovered this album almost by chance 10 years ago on you tube, since then I fell in love with the music of "Gerard Kenny" and immediately bought his lp "Living on Music". Originally from New York but living in the United Kingdom since 1977, Gerard Kenny is an excellent musician, vocalist and composer, who knew how to perfectly capture the sound of the West Coast mixed with a Soft-Rock sound. On this album, the artist surrounds himself with little-known but high-quality session musicians, in the credits we can find the name "Dominic Bugatti" in the backing vocals of the duo "Bugatti & Musker". https://www.google.es/amp/s/painterdonald.wordpress.com/2016/05/15/gerard-kenny-living-on-music-1980/amp/ The career of Gerard Kenny, an accomplished pianist, did not achieve the desired success in the United States and the artist decided to settle in London where he continued to compose works for television, obtaining several awards. https://youtu.be/6VO3n4pxQUw "Living On Music" was a great success in England, but especially in the Philippines, where several of the songs were covered by local artists. This is my favorite work of the artist because without a doubt it is the one that best reflects in part the sound of the Californian Pop that I love so much. Fortunately, the album was released on CD in 2016 for a Japanese label, although the LP was never expensive or hard to come by. You can see more information in the nice blog of my friend "Jimbo" Painter Donald. Masterpiece !! https://www.instagram.com/p/CHWWLkeJjbz/?igshid=1ltawdv6yxqx

The side projects of Daft Punk also provided a ground to test the tones they enhanced later on. A great case of that remains Stardust which may have only released one single, yet what a song that is! Bangalter, Braxe and Diamond crafted one of the best house tunes that would not seem out of place on any Daft Punk release from the late 90's, though Stardust positions the qualities of the duo into a modern disco route, which continues to sound vital. While Stardust was Bangalter's one-off, one notices the group had an enormous effect on the electronic music scene later on, i.e. Modjo, Armand Van Helden, Spiller, Roger Sanchez and many others moved within the same sonic environments, yet few of them reached the same heights as this division of Daft Punk.

SONG OF THE WEEK “Can’t Keep a Good Man Down” by Kris Ryder a.k.a. Chris Andrews. https://timchrisandrews.bandcamp.com/track/cant-keep-a-good-man-down ...This toe-tapping, bouncy tune imagines a New Wave Gene Kelly dance scene. It pops with a saxophone solo by the great Tim Whitehead and Beach Boys-y vocals by Kris with Dominic Bugatti and Frank Musker (who co-wrote Queen’s “Too Much Love Will Kill You” w/Brian May). This track was produced by Christopher Neil (a-ha, Sheena Easton). On a cosmic jukebox this record would play somewhere between Kenny Loggins, George Michael, and Leo Sayer. Listen here:
If this is your introduction to Chris Andrews, he’s a British singer-songwriter and recording artist whose songs have been covered by Roger Daltrey, David Essex, and Davy Jones (Monkees). Under the name Tim Andrews he was a champion of late 60s psychedelic pop and (later), as Kris Ryder, he released New Wave synthpop sides in the 80s. Chris was also part of the seminal freakbeat band Fleur de Lys.

MONDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO—“Zoom in on Me” by Chris Andrews a.k.a. Kris Ryder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4SHOSvtxI0 …A soundtrack for Zoom meetings? Or an instructional for photographers? The verse rolls in a Lou Reed-ish swagger and Kinks-like kick of New Wave thrash from guitarist Phil Palmer (Eric Clapton, David Essex, Dire Straits, Wishbone Ash). Then the bridge flips to a reggae-fied groove, with harmonies by Kris with Dominic Bugatti and Frank Musker (who co-wrote Queen’s “Too Much Love Will Kill You” w/Brian May). This track was produced by Christopher Neil (A-Ha, Celine Dion, Sheena Easton). Here’s hoping the Kris Ryder album gets a proper remaster-reissue—check out this recently made video montage:
