I'm thinking about this kiss. I use to think it was a reward for Spike. Something that Buffy gifts him as like 'good boy' equivalent.

I don't know if that is true. I mean that's not in her character to reward good behavior. I think Buffy is genuinely moved.

She was taught that a vampire needed a soul to be good. And Spike used a robot to impersonate her which is disgusting and a god literally smites him for it. And while Glory was torturing him, the soul less demon did not choose self preservation.

This goes against everything Buffy was taught. I think Buffy is deeply moved to see that Spike nearly died for her.

So she kisses him, not as her good and loyal boy. Maybe not for gratitude. Why? I'm not entirely sure

Thoughts about Buffy season 6:

Not actually as bad as I remember.

I actually really liked the whole "being expelled from Heaven" concept

Sorry, but the attempted rape in "Seeing Red" is actually entirely in keeping with Spike's character.

And so, actually, is him going off to get his soul back. He's a predator who remembers being a romantic. The contradiction is what drives him mad.

The only characters I actually felt were ill-used here were Giles and Xander. I don't believe that either of them would have done what the plot mandated.

The magic addiction thing was a bit forced.

The Trio seem, in retrospect, like a surprisingly prescient forecast of what has become of nerd culture and Silicon Valley in the decades since.

(Also of Joss Whedon himself. Zero points for correctly diagnosing what's wrong with himself and then refusing to do anything about it)

I Saw the TV Glow (2024) is the best thing to come out of this season
