A few days passed

Alexa was cleaning up one day after closing time at the bakery, scrubbing counters, putting away supplies. While the person she had hired to run the till was counting it down.

Then, she heard the bell behind her jingle.

"Excuse me, sir we are closed." She heard the person on the till say. She hadn't even bothered to turn around. Until the person who had walked in spoke and the voice was familiar.

"It's ok, I just wanna speak with her."

He was supposed to be the comic relief character then he ended up not being lol. Traumatic back story and everything. Eventually he will marry into the family

Her parents had already left Sunlit Tides, escaping the questioning of why they weren't aging. Her twin brother Max worked a lot. By day he was a mechanic in a car shop. By night he locked himself in his room and played video games all night. Taking full advantage of his ability to not need sleep.

Alexa was almost always alone in this house that was way too big and quiet for two people. But her parents had told them that they could stay here as long as they needed. She knew that they meant until they too had to escape the questions on why they were aging so much slower than everyone else.

Despite both their parents being vampires, their mother was still such a young vampire that some human had passed onto them, and they would age up until a certain age. But then it would stop, and they would be forever stuck at that age. So far it hadn't stopped, they were in their late 20s by now, Alexa knew they had a long time before they would start being questioned. A long time stuck here in Sunlit Tides. With only her brother. Just the two of them.

Alone.

"Kira! Get back here!" Alexa yelled, chasing after her cat. This was the last thing she wanted. To chase after her cat in the rain.

She was about to use her super speed when she noticed Kira had stopped, and there was a stranger picking her up.

"Anyways, thank you for the bread again. I'm sure I'll see ya around cutie." Brynn said with a wink, then he turned and walked out of the store

"H-huh?" stammered. That had been the last thing she expected to hear from him, she swore she heard him chuckle as he closed the door. She was sure she was blushing by now, and covered her face with a groan.

'That was such a lame pickup line yet here I am. Blushing. Get it together.'

"Just some bread would be ok." He responded and Alexa turned around and grabbed some bread off the shelf behind her. She turned back around and handed it to him.

"If you come back tomorrow it will be more fresh." She said, he just smiled at her

"I couldn't do that to you. I'm sure this will be fine. Thank you."

"No, thank you for stopping Kira before she got too far." Alexa responded.

the two looked at each other, a bit awkwardly. Now that it was light and they werent under a torrent of rain she could see him better. She could also see that his ears were pointed underneath his mess of hair.

'a fairy? but where are his wings?' she wondered.

"I never did catch your name." He said

"Oh, It's Alexa. And you?"

"Brynn. Nice to meet ya."

Alexa turned around, and found the same man who had stopped Kira from running too far in front of her.

"Oh, hello." She greeted, the person at the till looked between them nervously. She gave him a gentle smile.

"You can leave now, Sam." She said "I'll get the rest of it."

Sam nodded, and shut the till drawer with his hip. Then walked off.

Alexa turned back towards the blue haired man

"I assume you are here for your free item?" she asked, and he nodded

"Yeah, sorry I couldn't come earlier. I was...busy."

"It's fine." Alexa reassured him, and gave him a smile "What would you like?"

After her hot bath Alexa went straight to her bedroom, Kira was playing with her toys and Alexa laid on her bed.

She heard Max walk in from work again, but she didn't bother going out. She didn't feel like it. It had been a long day at work and then running into that strange man after Kira had run away had her thinking a bit too hard.

In her entire time here she had never ran into another supernatural being like herself, her father had told her that she would know when she was around another because she would be able to feel their magic. She definitely felt magic coming from that man. But it wasn't like when she was around other vampires, and he didn't have sharp teeth. The only other magical people she had been around was Trysten, her cousins husband who was a merman. And the blue haired man definitely did not have the same magic.

Kira meowed and jumped up on the bed.

"Could you tell what he was?"

Kira just circled around on the bed, and laid down, promptly falling asleep.

"Yeah, didn't think so." Alexa said with a small smile and a scritch on Kira's head.

She wouldn't think about it for now.

"Well I better be off." He said and started to turn to jog away

"Wait!" Alexa said "I own a bakery here in town, come by sometime and I'll repay you. On the house."

He turned and smiled at her, "I'll consider it. Though you don't have to repay me." He said

"I want to." Alexa insisted

He just smiled at her, and then turned and jogged away raising his hand in the air in a goodbye wave as he did so.

Alexa watched him for a few more minutes as he got further and further away. "I wonder why he was out in the rain..." Alexa thought

"Let's get out of the rain ourselves huh?" Alexa asked Kira as she turned to walk towards home. She was gonna get that hot bath she wanted finally.

The man handed Kira over to Alexa and she gladly took her

“She got scared of the thunder?” He asked

"Yeah, I accidentally left the door open. Thank you for catching her" Alexa said,

"Hey, it's no problem." He said, "I'm just glad she didn't get hurt."

"Aww little kitty." The man said, as he held and pet Kira on the head. Alexa approached him, and he noticed looking up at her.

In that moment Alexa knew she was dealing with another supernatural being, she could sense his magic. But she couldn't place her finger on what he was.

"Is this your cat?" He asked

"Yeah." Alexa said

Unfortunately when Alexa got out of work that day, It was raining cats and dogs. And even with her super speed she couldn't dodge the rain drops and ended up soaked on the way home.

Alexa was sighing in annoyance when she got home, ready to jump into a hot shower and go relax in her room after such a busy day when a loud clap of thunder made even her jump. By the time it was over she realized that she had left the door open a bit too late and she watched in horror as Kira ran out the open door.

Alexa wasn't surprised when the text message came in, not one bit.

It was the same thing over and over again. She would go on a date with someone she met from a dating app, the date would go well, and then she would get a message from them the next day very similar to this, or she would be ghosted. Alexa sighed and set her phone down on the bed, running her hands over her face and then laying her head down on her arms on the bed.

She had thought her and Chloe could have been something special. The rejection stung.

With a huff she stood from her bed and walked out of her bedroom.

It was around 4 am when Alexa decided to finally leave and go to the family bakery, when she left Max had still been gaming but he had switched to a first person shooter game. Alexa found she couldn't watch those for too long without becoming extremely bored.

As she stepped into the familiar space she tied her long hair up into a bun. Every time she stepped in here the smells never failed to bring her back to her childhood, when she stood on a stool to reach the height of the counter and watched her father prepare food for the day.

'Dad why do you have a bakery when we don't eat?' she would ask him

'Your mother asked me the same thing soon after we met.' Was his answer 'I enjoy seeing the joy my food brings to people. Come let me show you.'

And he did. Alexa never would forget the feeling of joy she felt after a customer came and tried the first thing she made. It had been simple chocolate chip cookies.

After the customer had left her father smiled down at her ' And that is why.' He had said.

Alexa was brought back to present time, a sad sort of smile on her face.

But now was not the time to get caught reminiscing, she had a bakery to run.
