It's all so forcefully constructed, nothing feels natural (just like the poster). All the alleged changes in sympathies are unconvincing.

And it takes place in such a highly privileged setting.

Mini-review:

After watching (and loving) Glen Powell on Twisters yesterday, I remembered I hadn't seen this one yet, so here we are. And what struck me the most about it was how genuinely funny it is! I don't know why, but I didn't expect it to make me laugh so much. Guess I'm a sucker for the tropes showcased here, fake-dating and misunderstandings. Tbh, the only thing I had heard about this movie was that Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney's chemistry is off the charts, and it absolutely is. Every single scene they share is so fun and engaging. I'm not saying Anyone But You is a game-changer or anything like that, but it's thoroughly enjoyable in a way that feels pretty refreshing.

My rating: 6/10

Sam Neill talks about that time he was a dog, which fixes Peter O'Toole's maladaptive avoidant behavior regarding his grief. Given the cast, the whole thing is of course quite well acted, but doesn't really do much for me otherwise.

Gorillas in the Mist (1988). The story of Dian Fossey, a scientist who came to Africa to study the vanishing mountain gorillas, and later fought to protect them.

Messy, clunkily paced, and dated, Gorillas in the Mist still somehow managed the unthinkable in the 80s which was to depict a real woman as she was. It empathises with Fossey, and depicts her mission and connection to the gorillas deeply, but doesn't shy from her entitlement and terrorism either. It helps that she's played by Sigourney Weaver, who's always good but is in top form here, playing these shades of Fossey with real nuance. The result is an uneven film grounded by a great performance. 6/10.
