ever see a post that you agree with and see where the poster’s coming from while on the other hand... it’s like summarizing all your issues w fandom in one succinct place?

there’s this one idea that many ppl here seem to (unknowingly) propagate, which is that physical abuse [i.e. brvce beating his kids] is the ultimate, absolute form of abuse. when people discuss parental abuse, it’s almost always in regards to physical abuse. when clear examples of emotional abuse are discussed they are rarely called abuse, but general ‘bad parenting.’ 

personally i think brvce’s emotional abuse has a much greater effect on his kids. you could remove every instance of him hitting them and he’d still be every bit as abusive. when i talk about how i like reading depictions of him being abusive, i’m largely talking about emotional abuse. it is what it is—abuse.

i know people aren’t doing this deliberately, but when people talk about abuse and they really only are referring to physical abuse... it’s a bit shortsighted and invalidating. i don’t have anything against these fans, but i think it speaks to a greater general cultural understanding that physical abuse is ‘real’ abuse while emotional abuse is, at most, ‘bad parenting.’

so for modern ..   i actually just talked to someone about this recently but !   i don’t know if he’d have any favorite  MOVIE  in particular   –  I SEE HIS FAVORITE(s) WOULD INCLUDE BRVCE LEE’S FILMOGRAPHY.   he just  …  loves that dang martial artist.  he is #goals and #inspo…   though his favorite genre of movies would be a mot of martial arts films,  too. MAYBE gang films (goodfellas, i mean, c’mon). i don’t think he’d get scared of horror and would be that guy that’s like stone faced the entire time pointing out flaws in the movie like  ‘why don’t they just do this—-’ ‘these people are idiots’  ‘they’re dead. bye.’  or something along the lines !   comedies … how do you make the dead laugh?   IM JUST KIDDING but he’s … he might like some romantic movies ;   not sure which good ones though.  he’s seen a lot of westerns too,  but maybe the man with no name/dollars trilogy is like .. His Thing. 

he’s probably watched a lot of ‘foreign films’  (though that’d depend if in modern he had grown up in japan,  or the sort,  rather than america).  

tv shows ???  UHH JEEZ in terms of american media - if this is modern,  i don’t see him getting into.  he’d probably more likely watch the news,  maybe catch a little stupid reality show like cooking shows that jet would put on maybe,  or police shows, even …..  sneak a peek of ghost adventures fklsjfl

not to be dramatic but i swear to hell half the time i come online i see something that makes me genuinely start to question my entire mental state, no exaggeration

like i see this post (i already have OP blocked but tumblr shows posts from ppl you blocked if someone else reblogged it, which is one thing twitter has over tumblr) and i’m like. well i disagree with that. but then the notes are all like

and this is just one post but there are soo many posts exactly like this. normally i don’t give a shit if ppl have other interpretations than i do. i really get annoyed when other ppl give me shit for having different opinions, so i don’t want to do the same.

but this stupid thing of like. “brvce SHOULDN’T be abusive” is so ??? and it’s something that “we” as fans and the canon writers have, like, a moral obligation to change it????

it makes me feel like i’m crazy because i don’t WANT it to be “dismantled” but reading this is putting it like i’m wrong??? am i wrong??? logically i know i can’t be “wrong” since this is an opinion over fiction but the way every single fucking discussion about brvce being a bad parent goes into what “SHOULD” happen or how a parent “SHOULD” or that the family “SHOULD” become less toxic ... what am i not getting?? what’s wrong with me??? why do i find catharsis and comfort in characters that don’t “heal” ?? why ??? 

ppl talk about “romanticizing” and usually they mean “don’t write a bad thing like it’s a good thing” but when i see things like “brvce’s bad parenting should be addressed”... THAT to me feels like romanticizing. “fixing” the bad dad brvce/toxic family just seems to unrealistic to me living in my life i feel like i’m living on another plane of existence. i genuinely do feel bizarre. why am i not living the experience i SHOULD be living. this is a rambling mess of nonsense  i hate everything
