What makes this better is in The Incredible Hulk, Norton Banner swallowed a hard drive if I recall correctly, so Bruce Banner who would've read reports on the tesseract as THE gamma radiation expert was only half joking.

The stones are mostly gamma. And what can Hulk do? Absorb a ton of gamma.
