Brúarfoss

Tourist attraction in Iceland

Remote destination offering a series of small, rambling waterfalls seemingly bright blue in color.

Brúarfoss is located in southwest Iceland, right off of the Golden Circle. If you are touring the Golden Circle, this makes a nice addition to your day.

A lesser known waterfall within the golden circle that is best accessed from the small carpark at the junction of roads 355 & 37. A small carpark from where you start a 3.5km hike alongside the river. Muddy in places with plenty of rocks and roots to contend with the further you walk. You pass 2 smaller waterfalls called Hlauptungufoss and Midfoss on route to Bruarfoss. The water is so clear, cold, and mesmerising Blue in colour that it will blow your mind! Some beautiful photo opportunities await you on your adventure. Bruarfoss, although tiny compared to Gullfoss is some ways more beautiful. It's multiple small streams of glacier water dance in the sunlight as they converge into the powerful and noisy main fall. A bridge over the fall is a good yet popular place to grab a picture, however if you cross the bridge, turn left and then walk back down under the bridge (with caution of course), you can get a picture without the crowds. One of the best sights of our trip to Iceland and free of course.

The life of a landscape photographer is always dependent on the weather, the atmosphere and light. Motivation and determination is still there .. The hardest part is being in the right place at the right time! It would be impossible to calculate the hours of waiting or the number of times I've been some places hoping to capture something special. That night I left to do some pictures in the Thingvellir park but my car broke down. Fortunately, I could count on my photographer friend and neighbor Vincenzo Mazza who came to help me in this mishap.
