The red-haired pirate entered your bar again. He had been frequenting your bar for the past couple of months as his crew was docked on your island awaiting repairs for their ship. Through mutual flirty glances and suggestive one-liners, it was no secret both of you had something. You purposefully wore skirts that kept getting smaller the more he came to the bar. His crew had commented on your ass, making their captain upset. It seemed he believed that he was the only one who could talk about you like that. To objectify you. You weren't opposed to it, you reveled in it. You would bend over in front of him, teasing him, tempting him to grab you and take you right then and there.
It was a fun game, to see how far you could go before he would break. It had to be a matter of time, he could barely look at you without excusing himself to the bathroom to take care of himself. You loved to watch him get red as he uncomfortably waddled to the bathroom, barely making it inside before his hand was in his pants. You started it by wearing low cut shirts first, making sure to lean forward just enough to where he could see into your shirt. However, you quickly found that mini skirts did it for him. You began wearing them more often. Some with slits on the side to really get him going.
You looked forward to seeing him in your bar. This time was no different. Your skirt was so small it was practically nonexistent. Red-haired Shanks sat at the bar, his face was a deep crimson. He was visibly frustrated. He used his index and middle finger to gesture to you to get closer. You bit your bottom lip and obliged, leaning over to Shanks. “Look at what you caused… Now you have to fix it.” He whispered in your ear as he pointed to the growing bulge in his pants. You looked at him, your face feeling hot as your heartbeat quickened. Trying your best to contain your excitement, you pointed to the back. He shook his head, quickly hopping over the bar. He began unbuttoning his pants, you quickly glanced across the room. Nobody was paying attention to you, they were all engrossed in their drunken conversations. Shanks chuckled under his breath.
"Kneel down sweetheart.”
Your breath hitched, looking back at Shanks. Noticing his pants were now pooled at his feet. Your mouth salivated as you scanned his dick. You nodded, looking into his eyes. His eyes closed as soon as he felt your breath on his erection. You licked the tip slowly, running your tongue down to the base. A hiss escaped the red-haired pirate as he threw his head back. You shushed him, you didn't want your patrons to realize what was happening mere feet away from them. He laughed breathlessly as he nodded in agreement. You carefully began placing gentle kisses on the shaft. Shanks’ hand found its way to the back of your head, gripping a fistful of your hair. “Love, I’m not here for games.” He reprimanded you.
You nodded your head, not breaking eye contact. You slowly took him in your mouth. You felt him twitch a little as he got used to the warmth surrounding him. “fuck~” a hushed whisper fell from his lips as he instinctively bucked his hips forward, hitting your throat in the process. You had little control of your movements, being pushed onto him by the hand that was gripping the back of your head. Low grunts and soft moans left Shanks, just soft enough that they blended in with the loud chatter of the environment. You used one of your hands to massage your clit, needing sensation to take care of your pooling arousal that had dampened your panties.
Seeing Shanks enjoying your mouth did things to you. The way he threw his head back with his eyes closed. His brows were furrowed as he focused on the rising feeling within him with every thrust. Your fingers slipped beneath your panties as you rubbed gentle circles onto your clit. Quiet moans formed in your throat. Shanks looked down at you, admiring the way you looked wrapped around him. He watched you play with yourself as you sucked his dick. Drool covering him completely. Just the sight of you was enough to make him cum. An echo of soft “yeah’s” came from the red-haired pirate, making complete eye contact with you. Your own movements became sloppy as your fingers were completely coated with your slick. You pumped two fingers into you as your thumb rubbed your clit. You felt a heat build up in your stomach. You held your breath at times to keep you from screaming out his name. Your pussy felt hot, throbbing sensitively into your hand as you tried to get yourself off. You held Shanks’ gaze, feeling yourself inch closer to your release. Shanks bit his bottom lip to contain his grunts as he climaxed, shooting sticky cum into your throat. You swallowed it, watching him hunch over as he sighed deeply in satisfaction.
The mere sight of him unraveling to your touch sent you over the edge, allowing you to cum all over your fingers. Shanks pulled out of your mouth, a string of saliva connecting you to him. He kneeled down to your level, scruffing your hair. You were panting, trying to catch your breath. “When you get off work I want to feel all of you…” He whispered, sitting on the floor to dress himself. You felt yourself blush at his proposition. He kissed your forehead, standing up and taking his place at the other side of the bar. “A whiskey neat please. When you get the chance, barkeep.” He winked, shaking an empty glass in the air momentarily before setting down. You straightened yourself up before taking the glass in your hand. “Right away!” You cheerfully replied, winking back at him.

Deadpool × Gojo Satoru
I assume you mean Deadpool reader/us. Tbh, I love Deadpool so why not. I think we all love Deadpool and he’d mix very well with Satoru persoanlity-wise! Anyhow, let’s get to work, shall we?
Gojo Satoru- Ketchup & Mayonnaise
So. After his favourite Golden Trio had graduated from the high school overall, and Satoru couldn’t teach them anymore. He was hoping the next set of trainees will be as entertaining and he was pleased with the results. Being you, his new favourite
You’re a witty immature highly sarcastic good humoured dumbass-badass. You’re just like Satoru and he appreciates that heavily so the moment you crack a snarky one liner at his blindfold, he’s already taking up like thirty minutes of class trying to out joke you
Satoru really relates to you, personality-wise, since he can just see himself through you and your behaviours with everybody. Neve taking anything seriously, belittling opponents, making jokes out of everything. Goddamn, he already loves you
Satoru regularly picks you to join him on his missions, solely so you two can goof around before, inbetween and after the target is defeated since he revels in the fact somebody is like him and doesn’t view sorcerer work as serious as everybody else around him does
Satoru finds your cursed technique and cursed energy impressive, it’s practically a technique that grants you immortality and your cursed energy can be used as a continuous regenerative factor to the point you can gain back limbs, come back to life when seemingly killed and seem to either not age or at all or age unbelievably slow
Satoru likes to blow your limbs off with Red or Blue as a ‘punishment’ when you disobey his orders(as you don’t follow authority, even his) since he knows you’ll be completely fine with your incredible control of your technique and cursed energy percentage. He hurts you because he adores you
Satoru is the world’s worst dad figure but he truly does care about you, he’ll be there for you. He does act his… uh, his own way but he cares, he’ll support you, he’ll teach you… his own way. He shows his like for you in the way only Satoru Gojo can
Satoru shouldn’t let you handle katanas but he does anyway since he knows you’re talented and he isn’t a dumbass enough to ignore such talent. Infact, he wants you to harness your talent and expand it, watching with a obvious smirk and hidden pride, behind his bandana, in his mesmerising blue eyes
Satoru often takes you out to lunches on Tokyo so you two can hang out. You’re not just his student, y’all his buddy and one time, you two found a odd modified bike then repaired it and filled it with banana peels and alcohol so it’ll end with you two speed-flying across the nigh sky and breaking into Jujutsu High from the roof
Satoru also should be worried how murderous and deranged you are since you regularly maim and tear apart Cursed Spirit enemies with your weaponry of choice but eh… he does the same thing with Red/Blue/Purple/Infinity so he’d be a hypocrite. Once again, he lets it slide since he likes you a lot
Satoru appreciates that you’re a truly good person in the inside, despite how crude you are and how bad at reading the room you are. Many consider you just a asshole… like him, but you work with him to actively help people so to Satoru, you’re just a silly kooky little anti-hero
Satoru may or may not write stupid comments or jokes on your paperwork/assignments and wait for your response as you two just end chatting about it for ages during lunch or after school since you two are that close. Basically friends, despite being teacher and student
Suspect Satoru to brag about you. You’re his best student… behind only the Golden Trio. You’re his favourite and he’ll always have your back, even after you graduate but for now, he’ll keep you liking him the most since he understands you the most
And you understand him the most… your attitude and the way you act in general almost reminds him of what Geto use to be
“Yo! Yo! Myoji, we’re having a school baseball game. You joining? Of course bring the grenades, we’re gonna prank that old man and make him regret thinking we suck! Yeah, also Utahime. I got ya back!”

Fancy a trip? Then welcome to door no. 19, where you can set sail on the SS Great Britain
SS Great Britain
Her history here:
When Brunel’s ocean liner, was built in the nineteenth century the SS GREAT BRITAIN was a bold attempt by a British company to break the American monopoly of the trans-Atlantic passenger trade. Launched by Prince Albert on 19 July 1843, she was the largest and most technically innovative ship of her day, because she was the first iron hulled, screw propelled ship. Her first voyage to America began on 26 July 1845, and she covered 3,100 miles in 14 days and 21 hours.
On the return journey, because of the loss of propeller blades, she used sail only, but still completed the voyage to Liverpool in 20 days. In 1846, however, on her fifth voyage, she ran aground in Dundrum Bay, County Down. It was not until August of the following year that she was refloated and towed back to Liverpool, and, in 1850, was sold to Gibbs, Bright & Co. for service to Australia. She was significantly altered at this time.
In 1854, she was refitted as a troopship for the Crimean War and again in 1857 she carried reinforcements to Bombay to deal with the Indian Mutiny. Returning to the Australian run, she carried the first touring English cricket side. In 1876, she was put up for sale at Birkenhead, but not bought until 1882. Her new owners, Anthony Gibbs, Sons & Co. converted her entirely to a sailing vessel for transporting coal to San Francisco and returning with wheat. After two such voyages, in 1886, she was dismasted by a hurricane off Cape Horn and she put into the Falkland Islands. As repairs were considered too expensive, she became a hulk for storing coal and wool. On April 14 1937, she was towed a few miles out of Port Stanley to shallow water in Sparrow Cove; holes were punched in her bottom and she settled on the seabed. The organisation required to co-ordinate the task of recovery came into being in 1968, led by Dr Ewan Corlett. In April 1970, she was refloated, returning to her original dock Bristol in July that year where she underwent a major conservation programme.
In 2006, an appeal was launched to help restore the masts of the SS GREAT BRITAIN. Two of the masts and part of a third needed to be urgently replaced as they had become badly degraded. The vessel was successful in winning the prestigious Gulbenkian Prize as UK Museum of the Year 2006, which brought with it £100,000 in prize money. This was put towards the costs of the masts. The ship also won two awards at the Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence 2006 conference in the restoration and conservation category as well as permanent exhibition. The project was also awarded the Civic Trust Award 2006 for accessibility. These Awards follow the relaunch of GREAT BRITAIN after work costing £11.3 million to transform her into a major visitor attraction and museum, as well as to preserve the vessel for future generations. The ship saw more than 160,000 visitors between July 2005 and September 2006.

2024 Book Review #40 – Dead Silence by S. A. Barnes
This was yet another book that has been on my TBR list for so long I had entirely forgotten what the actual pitch was – I went into it pretty much entirely blind, just ‘sci fi horror’ from the glanced over marketing copy on the back. Which is really the best way to go about reading(/watching/playing) horror, anyway. It was an entertaining enough read? If an uneven one – the first half was really incredibly better than the second, unfortunately.
The story follows Claire Kovalik, the ‘team lead’ of a maintenance crew repairing com relays in the ass end of the solar system – at least until they finish this last run and are officially rendered obsolete. Too psychologically fragile for her corporate masters to trust her with an actual ship, the only future she has to look forward to is a deskbound sinecure revising training manuals on Earth. She’s seriously considering killing herself instead, when their sensors detect an archaic distress signal past the edge of charted space – the Aurora, first and last space liner for the rich and famous, vanished with all hands on its maiden voyage decades ago. The finder’s fee and accumulated bounties would be enough to set everyone on the team for life (not even counting any artifacts they pocket to auction on the side), so the five of them board and reactivate the old hulk, exploring its galleries and aiming it towards Earth. Just a 60 hour burn to reliable communications with the rest of the system, totally worth it for fame and fortune. Even once they start discovering the state of all the former passengers, and figuring out what happened in those last hours aboard the ship.
So! This is Event Horizon but with the Titanic. It’s other things too, but that’s the pitch. Now, I like Event Horizon, and adore exploited corporate serfs being slowly suffocated by looming dread as they explore the gore-stained ruins of past decadence, so that’s no bad thing for me. But still, even from the outset this is not a work that tries to break any molds. This honestly becomes much more of an issue in the third act, when the book basically shifts genre and also has to come up with answers and a resolution to the whole thing and just does not land it for me.
The main twist on the formula is that Claire is the only survivor of a Martian colony that was annihilated by plague (and a missed resupply) when she was a child, the physical and emotional trauma of which left her partially deaf in one ear, terrified of emotional connections and (most pertinently) already possessed of significant experience with hallucinating the bloody corpses of people she cares about wandering around when she’s stressed. Which turns out to be a very useful life skill, when they turn the ship back on and everyone starts having to deal with that. Which is mostly pretty fun! The paranoia and terror as everything goes to shit at the end of the first act are great. Sadly, the book then decides to keep going.
The first half of the book is the story of the initial salvage crew’s discovery of the Aurora, as relayed through Claire getting debriefed/interrogated by a couple of corporate goons after being found half-dead in an escape pod. The latter half is those same corporate goons conscripting her for a return journey to the ship, now guiding three platoons of mercenaries. It’s like if you watched a double-feature of Alien and one of its bad sequels. The book slips from well-executed to paint-by-numbers, and the big reveal is basically the most boring possible answer you could imagine. This is not helped by the book’s action sequences just not being very...good.
Part of that is just the book’s complete lack of faith in its audience, or understanding of subtlety. Several twists are telegraphed so obviously that it’s hard to believe Claire is actually surprised by them, and character beats are just repeated so often you want to grab the author and scream you get it already. Claire’s tragic backstory is repeated something like half a dozen times, and the surprise villain spends half the final confrontation basically giving a monologue about how he’d drown a nursery full of babies if it topped up his 401k.
Villains aside, the supporting cast is mostly fun-if-one-note. Decently executed, but all very much walked out of sci fi central casting. Which more or less works, in that they’re all energetic and mostly fun to have on page. The unfortunate and singular exception is Claire’s love interest, the team medic. Whose...nice? Has a daughter back on Earth? Might as well be a statue carved from literal white bread? You know the cliche about hollywood action movies where the hero’s girlfriend has zero personality or arc and mostly exists to be hot and motivate him by being imperilled? Basically the gender-flip of that.
One thing the book kind of teases but absolutely never really explores or tries to resolve is the fact that in addition to all the hallucinations and madness with (boring, but) mechanistic and materialistic explanations, ghosts might also just be real? There’s several points in the book where Claire sees the body she doesn’t recognize hovering around someone, and when she describes it to them, they know who it is. It’s also a recurring thing that her visions of her dead mom are supposed to be how she even knew how to send out the SOS that got her rescued from the dead colony as a child. You might expect that this would eventually build to something, or be key to the final resolution. You would be incorrect.
So yeah, would have been a very solid horror novella if it just cut the entire second act. As is, I mean I’m not angry I read it, but not sure I’d go out of my way to recommend it either.

You can see the fuel leaking under the YF 12.
The YF-12 was a twin-seat version of the then-secret single-seat Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance aircraft operated by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); unlike the A-12, it was furnished with the Hughes AN/ASG-18 fire-control radar and could be armed with AIM-47 Falcon (GAR-9) air-to-air missiles The YF 12 was the older sibling of the SR 71.
The fuel was originally called JP-1, but it was modified to JP-7, which was less corrosive in the tanker storage area. They used to have to replace the liners in the KC 135Q. The technology in the SR 71 was so advanced that the world had not caught up to this technology. The fuel was made with ingredients to make it hard to ignite. You needed another ingredient, TEB, to light the fuel up. This was all for safety purposes. The people who flew the SR 71 and worked around. It knew that the fuel was safe around the fire. The mechanics are known to light up cigarettes and put them out in the fuel.🚬
No sealant was available that could go through the extreme temperatures that the SR-71 went through, from extremely cold ( the atmosphere temperature at 80,000 feet ) to extremely hot ( 600°C) at Mach 3+
The seals would break, and leakage would occur. This was not a design flaw.
The talented people who maintain the SR 71 would repair the sealants—tedious work to keep the drips of JP-7 fuel under control.
If anybody laughs at the dripping fuel, remind them of how far ahead the technology was in the SR 71, and that is why there was dripping.

Isekai Chronicles START
A/N: Welcome to my new experimental fic series! This is where you should start for context.
I don’t have it in me to write the 100k slow burn fic of my dreams, so I thought I’d try something new. I’m going to write the first chapter and everything else will be non-liner, episodic story telling based on YOUR prompts! Rule will be at the bottom of the chapter!
Summery: Through no powers of your own, you end up in Hawkins 1985, in a tv show that you once saw on Netflix. Slow burn, Eddie Munson x Reader will be canon, choose your own adventure to a degree, monkey’s paw author.
We begin.
Master List
August 5th.
By the time you get home from your job, it’s pretty late. Work had been busy, to the point that your break had been pushed back so far that your supervisor just told you to go home thirty minutes early. You were pretty sure that wasn’t exactly legal but you weren’t going to complain about being able to go home. Lucky for you, it was payday which gave you an excuse to grab yourself some food on the way home. As if you wanted to cook after such a long day anyway.
You fumble with your keys and make it inside, kicking off your shoes and making your way to your room where you planned on having a very relaxing evening watching mindless tv while having dinner before going to bed.
Alright fine, you were going to have the tv on but you were probably going to be staring at your phone the whole time while the tv provided some background noise.
You pulled your wallet and keys out of your purse and dropped them in the backpack next to your bed. Tomorrow you were meeting with some friends and you’d need the backpack more than your purse. You plugged in your phone and started flipping through channels on your tv to find something to not pay attention to while you ate.
Pulling YouTube up, you looked through your recommendations, seeing an eclectic mixture of D&D related content, 6 hour video essays about shows that you’d never watch, and the occasional clip compilation from different shows.
STEVE HARRINGTON BEING A SINGLE DAD FOR 6 MINUTES
You laughed to yourself, and scrolled past it to watch some random video essay.
It was 1:58 when you finally decided that you needed to go to sleep. You forced yourself out of bed to pick up your trash and take it to the kitchen. The tile was cold on your feet, far colder than it should be. Actually, for being the middle of summer, it was freezing here now. It felt like the temperature was dropping rapidly.
You made your way to the thermostat, but it read normal to you. You really hoped that you wouldn’t have to call the a/c repair guy. That wasn’t exactly something that you could afford right now. Then again, it couldn’t be worse than the power bill you’d get if it kept up the cold.
Grabbing a hoodie from the laundry, you make your way back to your room. It was too late to call anyone to fix whatever was going on with the unit, so you’d have to call first thing in the morning. Yay.
As you cross the threshold to your room, your stomach drops. When you go to set your foot down, it felt as though you missed a stair. The room spins, and for a brief moment you’re reminded of the last time you were on a roller coaster. Your head feels light and everything around you spins faster and faster until you're on your knees, trying to hold in your dinner. The chill in the air was now almost a relief as you felt yourself burning up. If you got food poisoning from that fast food place you were going to be so pissed.
Just breathe. Just relax. It'll be okay.
You don’t even realize that your eyes are closed until you open them. It was dark in your room now and quiet. Too quiet. Had the power gone out? The tv was off, as well as the lamp that you had next to your bed. You stood up with shaky legs, the nausea slowly subsiding. You picked up your phone to check and see if there were any blackouts in the area, but your phone didn’t light up when you pressed the home button. You frown and try holding it down for 10 seconds to try and hard-start it, but nothing. It remained off, reflecting your worried face on the black screen.
That’s when you noticed the vines.
Creeping along the edge of your desk, snaking their way around the bedroom were long vines that tangled around your room. For a moment you were completely frozen, only your eyes daring to move along the strange plants. What the hell was happening?
As a child, you were prone to nightmares and sleep paralysis, and you were holding your breath, hoping desperately that this was the same as when you were so small. You had learned how to snap yourself out of it most times, and you focused all of your energy into clenching your hand into a fist over and over and over again. If this was sleep paralysis, this would have alerted your body enough to snap out of the dream state and wake up. Nothing happened.
You back up towards the window, convincing yourself that this was a bad dream. You'd fallen asleep and now you were having some sort of lucid nightmare. Alright, if this was a dream, you'd have to follow dream logic.
You grabbed your backpack, an old beat up thing that hadn't held school books in years. Now it was where you kept your role playing books for your weekly meetings with your friends. There was no reason to grab it other than this was a dream, and things don't make sense in dreams anyway.
Lucid dreams could be fun when they weren’t terrifying. You could count on one hand the amount of times you’d had a dream where you were fully aware that you were in a dream. Though even in those dreams you weren’t fully there. There was a foggy feeling in your brain and in your limbs, that had to mean this was a dream. You wished briefly that there was someone here with you to share this with, some dream person to bounce ideas off of.
It was the loneliness of this dream-scape that made everything feel wrong.
You make your way out of the room again, it was just as dark and quiet in the rest of your home as well. Everything was covered in these weird vines, and you shuddered. You could see your breath now, and you rubbed your arms to get some sort of friction and heat. You make your way to your front door, reaching for the knob-
BANG
The door shook with the force of whatever was on the other side. You screamed and backed away, stumbling backwards over a vine that now wrapped around your ankle. It tightened around you, and you thrashed trying to get it off.
There was another BANG on the door, louder and harder. A piercing sound echoed through your home. Whatever was out there was strong, and loud, and did not sound human. You needed to wake up NOW.
There was a pair of scissors on the table behind you. If you could just grab them then you could cut this stupid vine off of you. Another vine shot out, grabbing your leg this time and you thrashed harder, reaching for the leg of the table and gripping it for dear life. You shook the table as more vines started for you, until the scissors fell next to you.
With a desperate amount of force you stabbed through a vine. Of course these were the shitty scissors, ones that you had been meaning to replace for weeks now. Your arm was sore as you hacked at the vines, the slamming of the door getting harder and closer to breaking through.
One good kick later and you were scrambling back towards your room, needing to find an out. You slammed the door behind you and locked it, as the sound of your front door broke open. Panic flooded your veins, any lucidity from this dream vanished in an instant and all you cared about was getting away from whatever the fuck was now inside your home.
You rushed to the window, which opened surprisingly easily. You could hear your heart pounding in your ears as you looked down. The fall didn’t look like it would kill you, but it did look like it could hurt like hell. But it was better to be able to get away limping than dying by a spooky vine monster. One good jump should lurch your brain awake enough to sit up and shake off whatever the hell this was. You looked down at the ground, adjusting the backpack and taking a deep breath.
Maybe you'd actually be able to fly if you were lucky. You never were that lucky though. In dreams, the best you could ever do was doggy paddle through the air for a few seconds.
You pushed yourself forward and found yourself tumbling to the ground. Your stomach lurched again, dropping as you fell forward. You tried to aim for the bushes to break your fall, but they never came. That feeling of being upside down washed over you again, and you fell with a hard thud on... concrete?
You groaned and sat up, the world had changed again to... you assumed normal? No, you had to still be dreaming as you found yourself in the middle of a street. It was dark, save for the lamp posts lighting the street. You took a few deep breaths, your head was still spinning and your stomach was protesting hard at what just happened. You took a few deep gasping breaths, begging yourself to not puke everywhere. You felt clammy, shaky, and now warm again. It was warm again.
There was an ache in your shoulder where you had landed on a hard concrete sidewalk. The backpack didn't help, and you slid it onto just one side of your body. You close your eyes and stretch it out. At least it didn't feel broken. That was a good sign.
"Holy shit." there was a voice from behind you, and you swung around to see two boys there.
One was... awkward looking. All gangly limbs and skinny with shaggy dark hair. He didn't look older than fourteen, in that awkward height where he wasn't quite taller than you but gave the impression he was just one growth spurt away from shooting up like a beanstalk- or maybe he was already in the middle of it?
The second boy looked more proportional. He was shorter than his presumed friend with curly hair and slightly darker skin. They were both looking at you like you were a fucking alien or something.
You might as well have been, considering that they had just seen you fall out of the sky, from a portal that absolutely had no business opening and shutting as quickly as it did. A portal, you'd come to realize, they knew about all too well.
You look at them, and they stare at you slack jawed.
"Shit." the shorter one says.
"Yeah. Shit." Agrees his friend.
"...Shit?" you echo back to them and that seems to snap them out of their trance as they start towards you.
"Did you just come from the Upside Down?" demands the taller one as they approach you.
"The what?" You stare blankly at them.
"The place with the vines everywhere!" the shorter one explains. "Looks like this place but darker and worse off? Crawling with demodogs possibly? Particles in the air?"
Particles? Had there been particles? You couldn’t remember, but you did know the vines. You shook your head, trying to pull yourself out of the fog of whatever this dream had turned into. Had you snapped your brain out of one dream to be pulled back into another? It wouldn’t be the first time that had happened either. Everything just felt so cloudy still in your mind.
You made a move to stand up, but your legs refused. Looking down you could see the indents of where the vines had dug into your skin. This was all too confusing. Who were these kids and how the hell did they know about your nightmare? And where even were you??
"How di-" you froze as the two boys stepped into the spotlight of the nearest lamp post.
There's a funny feeling that happens when you're in a dream. Things make sense, except they don't. You blindly accept things that aren't possible. You could swear you have physical sensation, but everything feels the same. A 'clear fog' would be the best way to describe it, if you had to put it into words. Reality and fiction, a world of your own making based on the world you lived in. Nothing is real, but everything was real somewhere else. You can be in five places at once because your mind pulls the fabric of your memories together to form a seamless transition of all of the space and time you've ever inhabited.
When Dustin Henderson steps into the light, that feeling snaps and you're awake. Any traces of sleep and dream disappear and you had the same feeling you would get after waking up from a nightmare. Your heart starts racing in overtime, you feel clammy all over. Your shoulder hurts, and your mind feels sharp and panicked.
You squeeze your hand into a fist, digging your nails into your palm and feeling the sharp pain in your skin. Real. You are awake now.
Mike Wheeler and Dustin Henderson were standing right in front of you. You knew their names and faces- you'd watch them grow up over the years but now they were in front of you.
You were awake but they were standing in front of you, existing.
You hadn't even thought about Stranger Things since the season finale last summer.
"Hello?" Dustin waved his hand in front of you. "Come on, dude. We're not the bad guys!"
As if two high-schoolers could be. Then again, you had been in high school once.
"The Upside Down." you said. You could feel the slight vibration of your throat as you forced the words out of you. Your tongue moved in your mouth, saying each syllable carefully. Real. Your words were real. "Holy shit. Where the fuck am I?!"
Your question caught them both a little off guard. This time it was Mike (Mike!) who spoke up. "You're in Hawkins, Indiana. Did you come from a lab too?"
A lab? That was laughable. You have never been anywhere near Indiana before let alone a lab, unless you counted science classes.
"I... am absolutely not from around here." you said. "I have no idea where I am-"
"Hawkins," repeated Mike, missing the point.
"-Or how I got here."
"Portal from the Upside Down?" offered Dustin.
You dropped your backpack now. It felt too heavy, and your shoulder was still sore from the impact.
"Do you know what your name is?" Mike asked.
That was an easy question. You were able to at least give them your name.
While you were spiraling and trying to decide on what to do next, Dustin walked over to your bag, which had spilled on the ground. Well, spilling was a generous word. You hadn't zipped it up properly as the zipper had a bad habit of getting stuck so when you dropped it, the books inside had slid out partially.
"Player's Handbook?" Dustin asked, picking it up. "This isn't what this is supposed to look like"
"Fifth edition." the words were out of your mouth before you could stop yourself. Fifth edition, fuck they were no where near that in ninetheen-eighty-something. Were they on the second edition? Second edition came out in 1989- shit.
Mike grabbed your backpack before you could stop him. These teens were awfully grabby for having just seen you appear out of thin air.
"Dude" you said as they pulled out your heavy D&D books, looking at them in awe. The hardcover books rarely left your bag as you had your own table to play with every week. Well, every other week. Sometimes, maybe once a month? Scheduling was hard with a group.
Would your friends even notice you were gone? Could they notice you were gone?
Mike was thumbing through the Dungeon Masters guide, with wide eyes. "Where did you even get something like this?"
Well, you might as well rip off the bandaid.
"Hey, what year is it?" you ask, ignoring his question.
The two boys look up at you, then each other, and then at you again. There was a silent conversation happening between the two of them.
"It's August 5th, 1985" Dustin said.
"Right. Cool." you sat your ass on the concrete, suddenly feeling dizzy.
The two boys stepped away, talking to each other in harsh whispers that you could still hear.
"We need to bring them to El."
"El can't do anything, she's- she still doesn't have her powers back!"
"They fell from a portal from the Upside Down and don't know what year it is!"
"El's leaving in a week to move to California-"
"So?! We've saved the world in less time than that!"
"We don't even know if the world needs saving right now-"
"That was a PORTAL that opened and closed on its own from the Upside Down! You think that's NOT a sign of something happening?"
The two boys continued bickering as your mind raced. 1985, meaning it was somewhere between seasons 3 and 4. Early August, so no Hellfire Club, El's still here for at least a little bit- there's no mall. Not that you have any money anyway. You rack your brain, it had been so damn long since you watched the show and now you're here?
"You know I can hear you both, right? Like, you're not even trying to be quiet." You call out.
Mike and Dustin stop their discussion and turn back to you. "You're coming with us," Dustin said. "We need to know everything that happened and how you got here."
"Do I at least get to know your names?" you already knew their names, but they hadn't supplied them to you.
Introductions were shared and books were put back. You struggled to zip up your bag, knowing that it'd be a worse struggle to get them out later.
"We're going to Mike's house." Dustin explained. "We can hide you in the basement for now."
"You two are being weirdly okay with putting up a complete stranger that just appeared out of nowhere." you said.
"This happens a lot." Mike said. You laughed, yeah, you suppose for them it did.
"So, what year are YOU from?" Dustin asked.
You walked forward with the boys, feeling each heavy step as you navigate through the suburban neighborhood. At night, in the street like this, it didn't look too different from a neighborhood in your own time. The only difference being the site of a tube tv glowing through the window of one of the houses. If you ignored that, you could pretend that you were back home in-
"2023."

Babe PLEASEE give us a part two to “Reaching Out” because I’m literally going to CRY!
Reaching For You - Jude Bellingham
"There's always a place for you in my arms and in my heart."
A/N: this is a filler episode, MEANINGGG this is sort of a part 2 of another oneshot in my page called "Reaching Out" check it out if you'd like 😱😱. lord knows idk how to end oneshots without letting it be on a one-liner or sumn, anyways enjoy this!! :)
You took your hands and cupped them on your boyfriend's cheeks. A small smile on your face and the tears that stained your cheeks slowly evaporated. You looked at your boyfriend's face knowing that you would look at it for every second of everyday and wouldn't be tired of it. You looked at your boyfriend's eyes and know that it would stare back at you softly. You looked at his lips and know that it would still be as soft and plump as you first kissed.
Jude stared at you back, intent and love in his eyes. He felt his heart momentarily break when he saw the traces of tears that stained your cheeks and his heart. He looked into your eyes and noticed its puffy and red. He looked at your lips knowing it comforted him, helped him, loved him.
You scanned your boyfriend's face one last time before planting kissed on every inch of his face. Jude erupted in giggles and laughter, his soft and loud laughter echoing throughout the bathroom.
Jude wrapped his arms around you as you kissed him with overexaggerated noises. He felt himself tumble and his back met the cold floor.
You pulled away, hands still connected to his cheeks as you were now on top of him. He looked back at you with a heart-aching smile.
In that moment he felt his heart repairing, he felt his soul slowly getting fixed.

Making BIG SIF2 (Part 3)
Hi! I'm back, and my BIG SIF setup is complete! That's not to say I'll never touch anything about it ever again, but it works great, and it also looks great now. Almost as if it's not just a pile of jank and bodges!
If you missed part 1 and part 2, the tl;dr is: I recreated an old SIF event where you stomp on big old floor buttons with eight other players to play songs together as a team. The other two posts talk about how the switches work, and various details about how it's all connected respectively, in case you are interested!
This post is another write-along of me working on stuff, and this time, it's about just finishing off the last few problems and to-dos - making a case for the electronics, and thinking about reliability and portability. Because of how many topics I want to cover, everything will only be covered relatively briefly. But if you want to know more about something specific, drop me an ask and I'll write more about that topic.
And just to have this important bit above the fold: I'm bringing the setup to Connichi on Saturday next weekend, in case you are there and want to play. More about that at the bottom of the post - but let's get started!
First off, an admission: I lied to you. Last time I said I made eight more floor switches. But that was not quite the truth:
It was eleven.
So multiply everything I said last time by 1.33 - 12 total switches, with 36 shelf liner layers, 24 of those copper taped and soldered, 144 holes cut into 12 rug pad layers, 192 snap caps pressed by hand, 48 cables crimped with bullet connectors by hand. Needless to say, I have been taking it easy to give my wrist a break... The first question is probably "why?" - it's not like there's a 12-spot mode or something. That's true, I'll never use more than nine of the switches at the same time. The reason these extra three buttons exist is reliabilty: there can be three backup floor switches on standby, to swap in if something breaks.
The switches are probably fairly easy to fix if something goes wrong - just need to re-solder a connection or repair some copper tape, at most. But that will still be a problem when actually playing with the controller system, because it will always take some time, during which the game will not be playable. Having more switches on standby means you can swap out the faulty button to diagnose and repair it, while the game can go on! But the main thing is that I will not be having the means to repair switches in most locations in the first place. I'm not going to bring my screwdrivers, soldering station, multimeter, extra copper tape, cable and everything else to wherever we're playing! And there's a good chance there's no power or space for a repair station, anyways.
That's why I went with three backup buttons, so the game can go on even longer even if I I'm unable to do repairs right away. We'll just keep playing, and I'll repair the broken switches when I'm back home. And technically, because all the buttons are modular and I can swap out the separate layers, the system doesn't become unusable until four of the same part break! That should be more than enough reliability for almost any situation, especially since it probably won't be used for more than a couple hours at a time.
Next up: let's hide all of the work I did. Having the wiring visible is a little ugly, so let's just put everything in a box. Building an enclosure also makes transporting and setting up everything a lot easier, since I can already connect everything inside the box ahead of time, and then just have to plug in and place the switches on the floor. And the easiest way to make a bespoke enclosure is 3D printing it!
What I'll need - besides the obvious "places to put all of the adapters and the phone" - is some way to access the sockets and board from outside so I can plug all the cables in. Also, even though SIF2 isn't that demanding, it's still a closed box, so I'll probably want to add a fan. But that sounds doable, most of these won't be any problem. I can draw a box with some holes. I decided to go for OpenSCAD for this project instead of FreeCAD - while it would have been nice to have FreeCAD to plan cable routing and be able to set constraints and everything, I just didn't need all of these complicated features. Again, it's just a box with holes, and I can do that real fast in OpenSCAD.
To make sure I get the box right the first try, I implemented every component as a seperate module in OpenSCAD, so I could print them seperately - for example, I could easily test print only the part of the wall that would house the Ethernet socket, to make sure that it fits perfectly before printing the whole box - and then adjust their position easily without messing up the rest of the components.
For the adapters without screw holes, I used threaded inserts that you melt in the plastic. I've never used them before, but since self-tapped holes wear out after a few times of putting screws in and out, I wanted to try out a more reliable method. These ones will last probably forever, and hold the screws in real tight. They were surprisingly easy to use, I assumed they would be harder to get straight... With this, I can use pillars with threaded inserts and some clips to screw in to keep the adapters in place, no matter how much the box gets thrown around. These threaded inserts can also be used to mount the arcade controller board and the fan. The fan even gets power right from the arcade board, which has 5V pins meant for LEDs - but they work just fine for anything else that needs power, too. I did add a resistor on the wire though, to turn down the fan speed and noise. Finally, to access the adapter sockets easily without having to open the box, I found panel mount extension cables for all the sockets that needed to be accessible outside - HDMI, Ethernet and USB-C (power delivery).
One difficulty was the sockets for the button cables. These are not some standardized kind of plug, after all, so I can't buy a panel mount cable like the others - I have to figure out how to mount these flush with the outside wall myself, and they have to stay in place, both when inserting and pulling out the cable. In this case, I was able to use the middle shelf I already had, that mainly exists to hold the phone, since it's placed right above the cable holes. I hot glued the sockets for the cables to some small clips, which can be screwed into the shelf with screws. Finally, the shelf can be aligned with the holes in the wall when placing it in the box, all the sockets being inserted at once. There's even a bit of a taper on the button cable holes, so the sockets self-align with them!
All that's left then is just jamming all the cables in there somehow. The only real awkward cable was the USB-B-to-A cable for the arcade board connection - the one that came with it was two metres long, far too much to fit in there. So I just cut it up and soldered it back together, reducing the length down to just 20 cm. That way, all the cables actually fit in there quite nicely, and there's plenty of space left for the board connector cables, so the middle shelf can lock everything in place!
And here's the finished box! That's a good box, right?
As one little last addition, I worked on some decorations. A plain white box would look a little boring, after all, so I added some accents and icons on the front and top. While it would have been super easy to do by printing the lid in one go and changing to a pink filament for just the decoration layers, I thought I'd be smart and not buy an entire spool of filament just for that. Instead, I printed everything seperately in white filament, and then painted it all with pink acrylic paint instead. That made the decoration only cost half - but it was such a pain. Between all the coats of paint needed to get a result that didn't look completely awful, having to glue on all of the little dots on the lid by hand, and then the clear coat, which kept getting tiny bits of dust getting stuck in it which are painfully noticable on a white background... I should have paid the extra price for the filament, it would have been less work and looked much better. Hindsight is 20/20. At least it looks okay from "standing on the floor switches" distance, I guess.
To close up the box securely, I also ended up adding some magnets I had around, glued into holes in the lid and the box walls. This way, to set up the game, I don't need any tools - all the cabling in the bottom department can be done far ahead of time, and then, at the location, I just open up the magnetic lid to place my phone into it, plug the floor switch cables into the sockets, connect the output cable on the back of the box, and it's good to go! This was an important step for the project - instead of a nest of wires openly sitting next to the TV, it looks nice and properly finished now. It probably could have been done way easier by just grabbing a shoe box, punching some holes into it and just having extensions cables hang out, but I wanted to try doing it "right", and I think the result is absolutely worth it.
One more note: I tried to reduce printed waste by just printing small parts to test and only doing the full box print once I was sure everything would work - but all those test prints shown above are still waste of course. This is sadly something that cannot be avoided, but I can at least make sure to reduce the impact it has. The test prints are not getting thrown into the trash, but will eventually make their way to the Recyclingfabrik. If you've never heard of them, they're a company based here in Germany that makes 100% recycled 3D printer filament! That way, my useless prints won't get burned or end up in a landfill, but can instead be reused in the future. (Also, they make some really cool filament colours, I highly recommend checking them out!)
Alright, now that we made a really good box, it's time to get back to something questionably janky.
With everything in the box running off of the phone battery, the system already is completely portable! Imagine being able to set up a quick BIG SIF game wherever you are, at cons or something… but in order to do that, there's still one massive component missing, and that's a screen to play on. Obviously, playing the game on a 15cm phone screen while standing on buttons up to two metres away is not a good time. You need something bigger! The coolest thing would be to buy a battery powered projector. That would give you a giant picture and be easy to set up anywhere - I'll probably get one sooner or later, but I'm not pulling the trigger on that purchase just yet. It'll be a lot pricier than the rest of this project, and choosing an outdoor projector seems hard, anyways… (I've been looking for comparisions of images from projectors with different Lumen amounts in different light conditions, but that doesn't seem to exist. Maybe some of you know something similar?)
There's also portable monitors. These are mainly meant as a simple second screen for laptops when working, but they would be a good fit for this situation as well, since they only need a USB connection for power. Something like that could work if I could find a screen that is large enough, and it would also be quite easy to carry around with the setup, as these are usually pretty thin. But again, good ones are usually in the "costs more than this entire project in total" range. But the thing is, technically all we need is a screen and a battery. I think if we bodge things a little, we can use another device that has a screen and a battery, and is made for being portable: your laptop.
Let me introduce you to scrcpy, which is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. If you want your Android screen on your PC screen, it is hands down the best way to do it. All you need is an USB cable - no app needed, no massive latency due to WiFi, and no need to send all your video data through some provider's remote server. scrcpy has almost no delay, you can use your PC keyboard and mouse, and you can even play phone audio on your PC with the newer versions. It's incredible, and I use it almost every day. So, plug the USB cable into the phone, and you can have SIF2 on the laptop screen! A luxurious 40cm screen, and speakers included, no emulators needed! But wait... now that the phone is directly connected to the laptop, I can't connect the other adapters in the box. It doesn't make sense to have the video on the laptop if I can't use the floor switches. Those are the entire point of the project! So, I can't use an USB connection.
But remember that Ethernet adapter I added? The main use for it was to be able to wire up to get a good and stable internet connection when the wireless one is too weak. But by using a special Ethernet crossover cable, two devices can communicate without needing a router or switch, and can create their own network just between them! scrcpy doesn't work just over USB, a network connection works, too - and I can set up that connection with just that cable. The video stream to the laptop is back up, and the board can still be connected! And now, we have a solution for a portable screen - it shows the game, it has it's own battery, and it's easy to transport! This approach is obviously not perfect - it's pretty janky, and "almost no delay" is still a delay - but for a quick spontaneous game of BIG SIF, this is a fine way to play.
The final hurdle to take is the internet connection the game needs. This is still a massive weak point in the portability, because, as every con-goer knows, it's basically impossible to use mobile internet at cons, as it is immediately overloaded by the amount of people there (or at least German con-goers know, idk if other countries are as bad). Unless you are have a provider that uses the higher tier mobile networks, it's either extremely slow or just unavailable. If the connection is laggy, that should still be enough to play, as you'd only have to fetch song info at the start of a Live - but SIF2 makes it difficult, due to how the game handles assets, specifically, the music files.
Every time the game loads a new song, it needs to download a file from the servers. That's the reason why, if you scroll through the song list quickly or hit the Random button a lot, the preview music doesn't play for a while: The game has to load all the server files for all the songs you stopped on... The song files are on your phone, but they are not complete. There's parts missing, and that file that has to be downloaded contains those missing parts. Without being able to download these server parts, the game would not be able to reassemble any song files, and could not play any music. And this is why a stable internet connection is so important for this project. We'd have no music at all without one, because every file must download it's missing parts from the servers! If only there was a way to keep the missing parts files, and store them on the phone so we wouldn't have to download them every time...
Trying to avoid too much technical details, here's the idea in a nutshell: I made an app that runs in the background while SIF2 is open, and whenever the game contacts the asset server, we trick it into instead requesting the missing parts file from that app. The app will handle the download instead, but in addition to delivering the file to the game, it will also save it on the phone. And if the same file is requested again, we just take it from storage instead of downloading it from the server again! The code for it is surprisingly simple, but the difference it makes is massive - it's noticable even with a stable and fast WiFi connection, because the delay between selecting a song and the preview starting is completely gone! So I'll probably keep using this app even when playing normally, but most importantly, this is going to work wonders on mobile connections! Maybe, that's enough to play the game even with things slow down... I won't know for sure until we get there.
And hey, while I already made an app, I also added a bunch of buttons to make setting up easier without having to use the shell. Everything that's needed to do a BIG SIF, on a single screen!
Anyways, we've come to the end! That's all for this project for now! Thank you for reading all the way to here!
If you're planning to make a BIG SIF setup for yourself and have any questions, or are just interested in more details on anything I've talked about, feel free to drop me a ask/message and I'd be happy to answer! If you want to come play with me on this setup though, that'll probably be a little harder for most people reading this due to distance, sadly :) But you could try checking my Mastodon, where I might be talking about any cons I'll be bringing it to! Just to mention it again, I'll be bringing everything to Connichi in Wiesbaden next Saturday (September 2nd)! I won't have a proper setup location, but if you have a group who's up to play, keep an eye out for the GenYoha!Kanan cosplayer - assuming I finish the cosplay in time, otherwise, look for a nesoberi-laden Lanzhu. If we can find a place where we don't annoy others, and the mobile internet connection plays nicely, maybe we can play a few rounds - so, see you there, possibly?
And as the last last last topic, here's some final thoughts - on things I'd like to change, or that you can consider changing if you make something like this yourself!
One obvious part of the project you could change is how the buttons work. I like the copper tape approach - it seems robust, is easy to build and fix in case of problem, and works reliably. But as long as you can make something that can close an electrical circuit, anything could work! One obvious choice would be contact sensor, but personally, I feel that's just a big point of failure, but maybe there's some cool approaches out there I didn't think of... One thing that I want to try though is replacing the rug pad with some light foam, about 1cm thick or so. As it is right now, the switches are lacking some kind of physical response, you don't feel much of a press. Maybe the foam would allow the button to have a "travel", being able to feel the switch depress and bottom out could be nice.
And regarding the caching app for the sever files, maybe I should just go all the way with that idea? Because ideally, I'd extend this concept to not just the missing part files, but generally all server communication. The app would just replay responses from when I logged in earlier instead, and have infinite plays without a connection! But I'm not sure whether I want to go down the private server rabbit hole...
The big thing I'd love to do though is improve the menuing. SIF2 is just not meant to be played with buttons - it's made for a touchscreen! And the keyboard solution I have right now works, but it's not a great solution. The floor switches will still be functional on the menus and mess around there, and the keys will also be usable on the screens they're not meant for. It's definitely not something I can just pass to someone and say "here, have fun". But what would the better approach be? The base requirement for any better interface would be to be able to track which screen the game is on, which is already a major problem. One thing I was able to come up with was making a helper app record certain regions of the screen, and doing image comparison - as in, "if this button is visible, the app must be on that screen". But that would be a whole different project, probably worth a full post in itself...
Okay, I'm stopping for real now. Too many ideas, not enough time, as always. byeee

NSB (Straud Legacy) Gen 8 Ep. 177: Its Complicated
Peachy’s ongoing focus on his comedy work wasn’t any problem for Jack, who had always enjoyed his husband’s ability to find the humor in every conversation, but the constant joking started to embarrass Luigi.
It certainly didn’t help that many of his father’s best one liners centered around his nightmare pregnancy and Luigi’s early years.
---------------------------------------------
The reverse was also true, as Peachy often found himself silently irritated by his son’s perpetually cheerful attitude.
Did everything really have to be “fantastic, wonderful, the best!” All the time!? Peachy was incredibly grateful that Jack’s love of parenting gave him the freedom to focus on his career. He didn’t think he’d be able to stand their boy’s overly enthusiastic take on all his adventures the way Jack did.
---------------------------------------------
After focusing so intensely on his stand-up it turned out that Peachy’s big break came during one of his musical gigs.
He was opening for a charity event in Tartosa when the headliner’s bassist, who’d had a bit too much to drink, stumbled on stage and started playing right over him! Rather than be upset by the whole thing Peachy simply chuckled and rolled with it, strumming a perfect accompaniment to the other sims raucous melody.
That evening he got a call from his agent who told him the host of the gala had loved the show and he was being promoted. Peachy was overjoyed.
---------------------------------------------
Luigi was in bed by the time he got home, but finding Jack in his favorite chair out back Peachy giddily told him the news. He was finally going to be able to focus on his comedy full time! Jack was thrilled for his husband, congratulating him with a very suggestive kiss that quickly led to more.
The next morning Peachy was actually looking forward to his boy’s cheerful enthusiasm but instead his news was met with a sigh.
With the frankness of youth Luigi said that he really didn’t appreciate how his dad’s new job took him away all the time and turned everything into joke when they were together. He was pretty tired of comedy. Hadn’t being a cop been fun? Maybe Peachy could go back to doing that!
---------------------------------------------
Luigi’s response felt like a slap in the face, and Peachy snapped back that he wasn’t going to apologize for being who he was or doing what he loved.
He’d saved an entire town when he was not much older than Luigi and later took control of an entire precinct. Now he was going to take the comedy world by storm! Luigi should be taking notes to achieve half as much himself someday and honestly Peachy expected nothing less from him!
He stormed out, leaving a shell-shocked little boy in his wake. The small cracks in Luigi and Peachy’s father/son relationship seemed to be getting larger, and only time would tell if they could be repaired or, instead, shatter into a thousand unmendable pieces.

The Process of Unblocking Pipes
Dealing with damaged pipes has long been a homeowner's nightmare, often requiring disruptive and costly excavation to access and replace underground plumbing. However, modern plumbing innovations like pipe relining Sydney have transformed how damaged pipes are repaired, offering a faster, less invasive, and more cost-effective solution.
Pipe relining, also known as trenchless pipe repair, is a process that allows plumbers to restore the functionality of damaged pipes without the need for digging up your yard or tearing apart your floors. This method involves inserting a resin-coated liner into the existing pipe, which then hardens to form a new, durable pipe within the old one. Not only does this save time and reduce mess, but it also extends the life of your plumbing system by creating a seamless, joint-free replacement pipe that’s resistant to corrosion and future root intrusion.
Understanding What Causes Pipe Blockages
Before you get into the process of unblocking, it’s important to understand the most common causes of clogged pipes. Knowing what typically leads to blockages will help you not only address the issue but also avoid them in the future.
Some common causes include:
Food waste: Grease, fat, and oil solidify as they cool, sticking to the inside of your pipes and creating blockages over time.
Hair: Hair, especially long strands, easily gets caught in bathroom drains and binds with soap residue, forming dense clogs.
Soap scum: Soap can combine with minerals in the water, creating a hard residue that clogs pipes, especially in bathrooms.
Foreign objects: Items such as cotton swabs, dental floss, and hygiene products can obstruct pipes if accidentally flushed down the toilet or sink.
Tree roots: In some cases, tree roots can infiltrate underground pipes, particularly in older homes, causing severe blockages.
Step 1: Identify the Blockage Type and Location
Before attempting to fix a blocked pipe, you need to determine the type of blockage and where it’s located. Blockages typically fall into two categories: local blockages and mainline blockages.
Local blockages affect a single drain, such as a kitchen sink or shower, and are usually easier to handle.
Mainline blockages affect multiple drains at once, indicating a more severe problem with the main sewer line or outdoor piping, often requiring professional intervention.
To assess whether it’s a local or mainline issue, check whether multiple fixtures are affected. For example, if both your shower and toilet are clogged, it’s likely a mainline blockage. If only the sink is slow, you’re dealing with a local problem.
Step 2: The Hot Water Flush (An Easy First Step)
The easiest and often the quickest way to deal with a minor blockage is a simple hot water flush. Hot water is especially effective for clearing grease clogs in kitchen drains.
Here’s how to do it:
Boil a kettle of water.
Carefully pour the boiling water directly into the drain, a little at a time.
Wait a few minutes to see if the blockage clears.
If the water is still draining slowly, repeat the process a few times.
Why It Works: Hot water helps to dissolve accumulated grease, soap scum, and other organic debris that can form a clog. However, this method works best for mild blockages. If the clog persists, more direct intervention may be required.
Step 3: The Plunger Method (Tackling Stubborn Blockages)
If hot water doesn’t solve the problem, it’s time to bring out the plunger—a reliable tool for dislodging blockages. A plunger works by creating suction that can help to move or break up the obstruction in the pipe.
Steps for Using a Plunger Effectively:
Ensure there’s enough water in the sink, tub, or toilet to cover the plunger’s cup. The water will help create the necessary suction.
Position the plunger directly over the drain, ensuring a tight seal.
Push and pull the plunger up and down vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds, maintaining the seal.
Remove the plunger and check if the water drains. If it doesn’t, try again.
Tip: For toilets, be sure to use a flange plunger, which has an additional extension to fit the toilet drain more effectively.
Step 4: Natural Solutions (Baking Soda and Vinegar)
If you prefer a more eco-friendly approach, using a combination of baking soda and vinegar can be surprisingly effective for clearing mild clogs. This method works by causing a chemical reaction that helps to break down organic material.
Here’s how to use this natural solution:
Pour half a cup of baking soda down the blocked drain.
Follow it immediately with half a cup of white vinegar.
You’ll notice a fizzy reaction as the two substances mix.
Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, allowing the solution to break down any organic material.
Finally, flush the drain with hot water to clear the residue.
Why It Works: Baking soda is a base, and vinegar is an acid. When they combine, they create a fizzing chemical reaction that helps to loosen debris in the pipes, making it easier to flush away.
Step 5: Drain Snake or Auger (For Stubborn Clogs)
For tougher clogs deeper in the plumbing system, a drain snake (also known as an auger) is your best bet. This flexible, coiled tool can navigate through the curves of your pipes to break up or retrieve blockages.
How to Use a Drain Snake:
Insert the snake into the drain slowly, turning the handle clockwise as you feed it in.
When you feel resistance, this is likely the blockage.
Continue rotating the handle to either break up the clog or hook onto it.
Once you feel the blockage is cleared, slowly retract the snake.
Test the drain by running water to see if it flows freely.
Tip: Be careful when using a snake in older pipes, as aggressive turning could cause damage. If you’re unsure, you may want to consult a plumber.
Step 6: Remove and Clean the P-Trap
If you’ve tried multiple methods and the clog persists, the issue may lie in the P-trap. The P-trap is the curved pipe under your sink that traps debris and prevents sewer gases from entering your home. Sometimes, this trap can become clogged with buildup.
Steps to Clean the P-Trap:
Place a bucket beneath the P-trap to catch any water or debris.
Using a wrench, carefully loosen the nuts on either side of the P-trap.
Remove the trap and inspect it for clogs. Clean out any debris you find.
Rinse the trap with water and reassemble it.
Test the drain to ensure the clog has been cleared.
Step 7: Hydro-Jetting or Professional Help (When All Else Fails)
If the blockage is too stubborn to clear with household methods, or if you suspect the issue is further down the pipe or in the main sewer line, it’s time to call in a professional plumber. Plumbers use specialised tools like hydro-jetting (a high-pressure water stream) or pipe inspection cameras to find and remove clogs deep within the system.
Why Call a Professional:
Persistent blockages might indicate a larger issue, such as tree roots or a collapsed pipe.
Professional plumbers have the expertise and equipment to safely clear blockages without damaging your plumbing.
Hydro-jetting can completely clear out tough blockages and even clean the walls of your pipes, preventing future buildup.
Preventative Measures to Avoid Future Blockages
Once your pipes are cleared, it’s essential to implement preventative maintenance to avoid future issues. Here are some simple steps you can take to keep your plumbing in good shape:
Avoid pouring grease or oils down the drain. These substances can solidify and cause blockages.
Install drain guards or strainers in sinks and showers to catch hair, food particles, and other debris before they enter the pipes.
Regularly flush your drains with hot water or a baking soda and vinegar solution to break down any buildup.
Be mindful of what you flush. Only toilet paper and human waste should go down the toilet. Items like wet wipes, dental floss, and cotton balls can lead to significant clogs.
Dealing with a blocked pipe can be frustrating, but with the right approach and tools, most clogs can be resolved quickly and easily. By following these steps, you can clear minor blockages yourself and save on costly plumbing services. However, if you find the blockage is more persistent or widespread, don’t hesitate to call a professional plumber to prevent further damage.
Remember, regular maintenance and mindful habits can go a long way in preventing blockages and keeping your plumbing running smoothly.

EPDM Liners: A Reliable Solution for Your Pond Needs
If you have a pond, whether it's for decorative purposes, a koi pond, or a functional water feature for irrigation, you need a reliable liner to keep the water from seeping into the ground. One of the best options on the market is an EPDM pond liner. This durable and flexible material offers long-lasting protection and is easy to install, making it ideal for both DIY projects and professional pond builders.
We'll explore what EPDM liners are, how they work, and why they are a great choice for your pond. We'll also answer some frequently asked questions about how to fix a pond liner and the benefits of using EPDM for your fish pond coating needs.
What Is an EPDM Pond Liner?
An EPDM pond liner is a synthetic rubber membrane made from ethylene propylene diene monomer. It’s designed to be highly flexible, UV-resistant, and durable. These qualities make it an ideal choice for pond construction because it can adapt to different shapes and sizes without cracking or breaking down over time.
One of the main advantages of EPDM liners is their elasticity. This flexibility allows the liner to stretch and conform to the pond’s contours, which is important if your pond has an irregular shape or if the ground beneath shifts slightly over time. Unlike some other liners, EPDM doesn’t become brittle in cold weather, which ensures its performance even in freezing temperatures.
Why Choose an EPDM Pond Liner?
When it comes to selecting a liner for your pond, there are several reasons why EPDM pond liners are a popular choice:
Durability: EPDM is known for its long-lasting performance. It can last up to 20 years or more with proper maintenance, saving you the trouble of frequent replacements.
Weather Resistance: EPDM liners are resistant to extreme weather conditions, including harsh sunlight, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures. This makes them suitable for various climates.
Flexibility: The liner’s flexibility allows it to easily adapt to the shape and size of your pond, including ponds with waterfalls or streams.
Eco-Friendly: EPDM pond liners are non-toxic and safe for fish and plants, making them a great option for natural ponds or koi ponds where maintaining healthy water is essential.
Easy to Repair: If a puncture does happen, it’s straightforward to fix a pond liner made from EPDM. There are patch kits available that allow you to seal any leaks quickly without needing to replace the entire liner.
How to Fix a Pond Liner?
Over time, pond liners can develop leaks or small tears. If you notice water levels dropping in your pond more than usual, you might need to repair the liner. Here’s a simple guide on how to fix pond liner:
Locate the Leak: The first step is to identify where the leak is coming from. If the water level stops dropping at a certain point, the leak is likely around that level. Walk around the pond and inspect the liner for visible tears or holes.
Clean the Area: Once you’ve found the leak, clean the surrounding area to ensure proper adhesion. Dirt, algae, and debris can prevent the patch from sticking correctly.
Apply the Patch: Use a patch kit designed for EPDM liners. These kits usually come with adhesive and a rubber patch. Apply the adhesive to both the patch and the liner, then press the patch onto the leak, making sure to smooth out any air bubbles.
Let It Dry: Allow the patch to dry for the recommended time before refilling the pond with water.
EPDM liners are easy to repair, and the patches are highly effective at sealing leaks, meaning you can restore your pond’s water-tightness without needing a professional.
Using EPDM as a Fish Pond Coating
If you have a pond that houses fish, like koi or other aquatic life, it’s essential to choose a liner that is not only durable but also safe for the pond’s inhabitants. Fish pond coatings need to be non-toxic, long-lasting, and able to maintain water quality.
An EPDM pond liner is an excellent choice for fish ponds because it doesn’t release harmful chemicals into the water. Its flexible and durable nature helps protect the pond from leaks, ensuring the water stays clean and contained. Additionally, EPDM liners are resistant to UV rays, which prevents them from breaking down or cracking over time, reducing the risk of toxins entering the water.
Many fish pond enthusiasts choose EPDM for its ease of use and reliability. Whether you're building a new pond or refurbishing an old one, you can confidently rely on EPDM as a fish pond coating solution that ensures your pond will remain leak-free and safe for aquatic life.
Conclusion
Choosing an EPDM pond liner is a wise investment for anyone building or maintaining a pond. It offers durability, flexibility, and safety for fish and plants, making it the ideal choice for a wide variety of pond applications. Whether you're looking to install a new pond or need to fix a pond liner, EPDM is a reliable and cost-effective solution that will keep your pond functioning perfectly for years to come.

Patch Relining Pipe Repairs vs. Traditional Methods: Which is Best for You?
When it comes to fixing damaged pipes, property owners are often faced with two main choices: traditional pipe repair methods or modern patch relining techniques. Both approaches have their merits, but which is the better option for your needs? Let's break down the key differences between patch relining pipe repairs and traditional methods to help you make an informed decision.
What is Patch Relining Pipe Repair?
Patch relining, also known as cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) repair, is a non-invasive method used to fix small sections of damaged or leaking pipes. Rather than digging up the affected pipes, patch relining involves inserting a flexible, resin-coated liner into the pipe. Once in place, the liner hardens, creating a durable new pipe inside the old one. This method is quick, efficient, and requires minimal excavation.
Traditional Pipe Repair Methods
Traditional pipe repairs, on the other hand, involve digging up the ground to access the damaged pipe. The affected section is then either replaced or repaired manually. This method has been around for decades and is still used today, particularly for larger-scale pipe replacements or when the damage is extensive.
Key Differences Between Patch Relining and Traditional Methods
Invasiveness and Disruption
Patch Relining: Minimal disruption is one of the biggest advantages of patch relining. Since it doesn’t require extensive digging, your landscaping, driveways, and other property features remain intact.
Traditional Methods: Traditional pipe repair is far more invasive. It often requires significant excavation, which can lead to costly landscaping repairs and a longer repair time.
Cost-Effectiveness
Patch Relining: While the upfront cost of patch relining can sometimes be higher, it can save money in the long run by avoiding extensive digging, property restoration, and downtime.
Traditional Methods: Traditional repairs may initially seem more affordable, but when you factor in the costs of digging and restoring your property, the total expense can be significantly higher.
Durability and Longevity
Patch Relining: The resin used in patch relining forms a tough, seamless layer inside the pipe, effectively sealing cracks, leaks, and even small holes. This can extend the life of your pipes for decades.
Traditional Methods: Replacing damaged sections of a pipe with new material is also durable, but the joints in the pipes can sometimes be vulnerable to future damage or leaks.
Time Efficiency
Patch Relining: The process is relatively quick. In many cases, repairs can be completed in a few hours, meaning less downtime and inconvenience.
Traditional Methods: Traditional methods can take days, especially when digging, pipe replacement, and property restoration are involved.
Environmental Impact
Patch Relining: This method is more eco-friendly because it reduces the need for heavy machinery, minimizes waste from digging, and conserves energy.
Traditional Methods: Traditional pipe repair typically results in more waste, including excess soil, broken pipes, and landscaping material, which all have an environmental impact.
When Should You Choose Patch Relining?
Small, localized damage: If only a small section of your pipe is damaged, patch relining is a great option.
Minimal disruption: If you want to avoid digging up your yard or property, this non-invasive method is ideal.
Quick repairs: Patch relining is fast and perfect for property owners who need a speedy solution.
When Should You Opt for Traditional Methods?
Extensive damage: If the damage is too widespread or the pipe is severely corroded, traditional repair methods might be necessary.
Pipe replacement: If your pipes are beyond repair and need a full replacement, traditional methods will be required.
Conclusion: Which is Best for You?
The best choice between Patch Relining Pipe Repairs and traditional pipe repair depends on the specific situation. If you're looking for a fast, non-invasive, and cost-effective solution for minor pipe issues, patch relining is the way to go. However, if your pipes are heavily damaged or require a complete overhaul, traditional methods may be more suitable.
Consulting a professional can help you determine the extent of the damage and recommend the best course of action for your property. Whether you choose patch relining or a more traditional repair, fixing your pipes sooner rather than later will save you time, money, and stress in the long run.
