Queen Of The Night is a species of cactus and one of the most cultivated species in its genus. Epiphyllum Oxypetalum rarely blooms and only at night, and its flowers wilt before dawn. The large, funnel-shaped, white flowers are up to 28 cm long. This fragrant, nocturnal bloom opens in the late evening and closes again at sunrise. The flowers are followed by small, up to 10 cm long, oblong, purplish-red, angled fruits. In India, Epiphyllum Oxypetalum called by many names. Iruludavare in Kannada, meaning ‘night lotus’. It is believed that the wishes of people who pray to God while the flower is blooming will be fulfilled. It is also called as Bramhakamal in Maharashtra, Gulebakavali in Ancient Tamil. It is called Kadupul flower in Sri Lanka. Though it is sometimes referred to as a night-blooming cereus, it is not closely related to any of the species in the tribe Cereeae, such as Selenicereus, that are more commonly known as night blooming cereus. All Cereus species bloom at night and are terrestrial plants; Epiphyllum species are usually epiphytic. Epiphyllum oxypetalum is an erect or semi-erect, branching, epiphytic cactus up to 6 m tall with cylindrical stems, bearing elliptic, leaf-like, scalloped, dark green branches. Saussurea Obvallata vs Epiphyllum Oxypetalum Not many know that Brahma Kamal is a misnomer when referred to Epiphyllum Oxypetalum. We see a lot of people sell it as Brahma Kamal. But the real Brahma Kamal is Saussurea Obvallata, which grows in the Himalayas, at an altitude of around 4500 m. The Epiphyllum Oxypetalum, on the contrary, is a cactus and nowhere related to Saussurea Obvallata. Saussurea Obvallata is the state flower of Uttarakhand. Feywild Flowers in my Curse of Strahd Campaign One of the characters in my Curse of Strahd game is an Eladrin Abdjuration Wizard named Sabriel Naïlo who comes from a once very well-to-do family in Feywild who all ended up very much cursed and dead with their sparkling city in ruins around them...because Hags and their Archfey, Ceithlenn of the Crooked Teeth, didn't take kindly to crusades and eminent domain from the Eladrin next door, no matter who excited they were to extend their city, no matter the cost in lives, homes, temples and curses. Anyways, Strahd has created magical facsimiles of flora from Sabriel's for her. Passionbloom Passionblooms are large, colourful flowers similar to larger and brighter hibiscus blooms. Once the flower has bloomed white or beige, the petals absorb the emotions of humanoids, changing colour to match the emotion. The emotion sustains the flower and keeps it fresh, even when picked, as well as giving anyone touching the petals an echo of the emotion. Strahd made the Passionbloom for Sabriel when he broke into her room, charmed her and bit her, which makes the romantic gesture questionable at best, especially as it retained the charmed affection for Strahd. Moon Rose often called Naïlo Rose Moon Roses are Feywild flowers that only bloom under moonlight with its heady, sweet scent carries far on the night breeze. Many naturally grew and were cultivated around the Eladrin city of Elfinwood, ancestral home of the Naïlo family Strahd left this flower for Sabriel, after they spent a long night discussing how much he wants to change and how he's just a puppet of the Dark Powers...conveniently ignoring the fact he had already switched out Ireena for a Polymorphed Wererat, with the real Ireena locked in the dungeons. Sabriel took the Moon Rose and the Passionbloom as a show that their relationship is developing. I'm not looking forward to Sabriel finding out that Strahd is as bad or worse than she initially thought, after he seems like such a nice guy... BramhaKamal Brahma Kamal, named after Brahma, the God of Creation, probably blooms only for one night in the entire year, somewhere between July and September. It is commonly known as Night blooming Cereus, Queen of the night, Lady of the night as its beautiful Lotus like flower blooms late night. In India it is called as Brahma Kamal ( ब्रह्मकमल ) and is treated as a sacred plant. It is also popularly known as Orchid Cactus as the flower has orchid like beauty and plant resembles cactus in habit. The Brahma Kamal plant found in Himalayas is often mixed with the plant seen growing on window sill in homes. It is the state flower of Uttarakhand. Also recognized as the flower of Lord Brahma, it is considered very lucky if u see it bloom… In Hindu drawings Brahma is seen sitting on a pink flower that is resembling lotus (Sanskrit:Kamal), which is Indian National flower. Hence people claim that the pink flower of Nelumbo nucifera to be Brahma Kamal. It is believed to bring in loads of good luck and prosperity and a home where the flowers bloom is very auspicious and lucky. These flowers looks gorgeous, but they smell awful, perhaps that explains why we do not bring them home, but have been offering them with devotion in the hill temples at Kedarnath and Badrinath. #themintwheels #mastermint350 #soloride #solorider #solobiker #solotravel #solotravelstories #kashmirtokanyakumari #k2ksolorider #bikersofindia #travel #explore #wander #adventureseeker #mobilephotography #india #iloveindia #incredibleindia #visitindia #inspiredtravel #instabikers #instariders #roadtrip #incredibleindia #instapassport #coloursofindia #indianbiker #indiatourism #indiantravelblogger #royalenfield @natgeotravel @natgeoindia @natgeoadventure @discoveryplusin @discovery @royalenfield (at Gangotri Temple) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPhnoP4Aa4J/?utm_medium=tumblr
