I've been playing the game FFIX over again, and it surprises me how soft people make Garnet in her artwork with Zidane. The girl can be really sassy and savage at times. Yes she blames herself a lot, but she also doesn't take shit either. This is the same girl who's been training to escape and tricked everyone in eating sleeping weed. I think people forget how badass she really is.
Oh my friend. You are so right and you should say it. My girl Garnet til Sarah Dagger Alexandros XVII is a badass, sassy, savage, legend.
"Perish Zidane" Counter: 1
Just casually trains to be a three-time gold medal gymnast in her free time. She also doesn't need Zidane's flirting complaints/banter. She's got places to be and corrupt monarch-mothers to stop.
"Perish Zidane" Counter: 2
Garnet: Lol yeah I know I'm good now where's my Oscar *proceeds to dramatically pretends to die on stage so well that Brahne sobs and Steiner actually legitimately mourns her*
Princess with zero patience for her knight. They go way back. She's been sassing him for years and you know it.
Absolutely ZERO tolerance for mainsplaining. My queen.
You know homegirl was tuning him out.
"Perish Zidane" Counter: 3
Runs after Vivi and then proceeds to physically DRAG HIM out of danger
"Perish Zidane" Counter: 4
(Honestly this entire scene is just Garnet dragging him)
.
That's all just some of Disc 1. It barely even scratches the surface of the badassery and sass of Queen Garnet til Alexandros XVII.
My beloved Dagger is feminine, cute, AND she doesn't take shit from anyone. She's got an edge and a sassy tongue on her. She can be soft and kind but tough as nails when necessary. She's amazing and one of my favorite characters.
It's such a disservice to female characters when one aspect of their character becomes a hyperfocus. Usually taking away their depth and reducing them to a stereotype or one-dimension. Garnet loves Zidane, she loves her friends, she loves her people, and her kingdom. She's romantic, she loves reading, Lord Avon's plays, and she can oh idk summon god-forsaken monsters that will suck you into the abyss and she will then simply smile at you and spin her staff and swish her cute short hair while she earns that sick AP. I love her and I would let her kick my ass. So would Zidane. So would everyone. So should you.
(Feel free to add Iconic Garnet Moments™ to this thread)

What’s So Good About FINAL FANTASY IX?
It's Final Fantasy IX's release anniversary today! It's one of the most beloved games in the Final Fantasy series, but why? We look at why the Tantalus Theatre Troupe continues to draw in the crowds...
1. Every character is memorable and unique
FINAL FANTASY IX features one of the quirkiest casts in the entire FINAL FANTASY series - maybe even in all of gaming. Every character in the game is utterly distinct - both visually and in terms of their personality.
Take the nominal lead, Zidane, for example. He’s one of the most outwardly cheerful heroes to lead a FINAL FANTASY game, and his mischievous nature is mirrored in his prehensile monkey-like tail.
Then there’s Quina, the lick-y gourmand who joins the gang - essentially to eat as much of the world’s flora and fauna as possible. As motivations go, it’s… um… one of a kind and the long-tongued character design is also unlike anything else is the series.
Thats just a tiny sample of this amazing cast - whether it’s the solemn stoicism of Amarant, or the grotesque cruelty of Queen Brahne, every character wedges themselves in the mind long after you’ve shut down the game.
2. The story is uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time
The opening of FINAL FANTASY IX is so fast, funny and entertaining, you’d be forgiven for thinking you know what to expect from the rest of the adventure.
But FINAL FANTASY IX wants to take you on an emotional journey that ranges as far as the physical one the characters undertake. There’s serious darkness in this world.
This is particularly evident in the case of Vivi. The young Black Mage’s journey of self-discovery is shocking and heart-breaking in equal measure.
And yet despite all the pain and the tragedy the heroes endure, the game never wallows in misery. It still looks for joy and humor in the world and goes out of its way to leave you with a smile on your face. It’s actually amazing that a story with so many potentially disturbing twists can be so inspirational.
3. The ability system is fun and flexible
The genius of FINAL FANTASY IX’s ability system is that it’s incredibly easy to understand yet has incredible depth.
Here’s a very basic rundown of how it works: almost all gear and weapons contain inherent skills and support abilities.
Skills are active commands that you can use in combat, such as magic spells, or deadly physical attacks. So long as you have that item equipped, you can use it, and eventually you’ll learn the skill permanently.
Support abilities are passive bonuses that boost a character’s abilities, such as more health or extra damage against specific enemy types. You’ll need magic gems to equip them - different abilities require a different number of gems, so you’ll never have enough to use everything.
Then there are extra complications, like the fact that some characters can’t use certain skills and abilities. It all means that you have to make constant decisions about the makeup of your party.
Do you stick with an underpowered piece of kit to bank the skill for later use? Should you switch up your support abilities to help overcome a particularly bothersome boss? Smart choices can mean the difference between success and a messy end.
4. The side activities are particularly good
If you’re someone who enjoys poking away at every nook and cranny of a game, FINAL FANTASY IX must feel like a gift from the Eidolons - it’s absolutely packed full of entertaining side quests, secrets and minigames.
The most well-known is undoubtedly Tetra Master. This deceptively deep card game can be played with many of the characters across FINAL FANTASY IX’s massive world, and depending on the type of player you are, it’s either a fun diversion, or an all-consuming mega-game that will become an obsession for hours.
But there’s far more than that to do in FINAL FANTASY IX. Chocobo Hot and Cold sees you using the iconic birds to find unique treasures across the world. You can also search for Stellazzio coins, meet friendly land spirits, chase frogs, jump rope and more.
The main story is already pretty chunky, but factor in all the entertaining side activities, and FINAL FANTASY IX will keep you busy for a very long time indeed.
5. It’s one for the fans - in the best possible way
There’s a right way and a wrong way to do fan service - FINAL FANTASY IX does it the right way.
The game is a celebration of FINAL FANTASY up to that point, and it’s full of fun nods to earlier titles. For example, the Black Mage design is a direct reference to the original FINAL FANTASY, as are some of the airship designs.
Character and place names are reused from earlier titles too. You’ll notice off-hand comments about ‘spiky haired sword wielders’ and you may recognize certain ability names from prior games too. If you’re a long-term fan of the series, you’ll be amazed at the sheer volume of callbacks and Easter eggs.
And yet you don’t need to be a veteran of the series to enjoy the game. Not getting any of the many, many references won’t impact your understanding of the plot, characters or world. The game still stands up as a fun standalone adventure in its own right.

If you’ve never seen the hidden, unused scenes of FFIX, it’s worth taking a look! A few notes:
Vivi tells Puck that he bought his ticket from a moogle wearing a hat. Who could that be? I can think of one durag that belongs on the head of the noble and kind Stiltzkin, but I doubt he’d swindle Vivi with a fake ticket.
Zidane has a rather heavy moment debating whether he should rescue Garnet in the Evil Forest. This scene was appropriately axed; Zidane has an established persona helping those in need without much forethought.
Morrid and Steiner briefly discuss a longtime ongoing war between Alexandria and Burmecia that resulted in the death of Alexandria’s king. A few things about this: In the timeline of the FFIX Ultimania, you’ll find that Steiner is an orphan of a war that occurred between Alexandria and Burmecia immediately before the advent of Cid VIII’s Mist-powered ships, which promoted trade and subsequently peace between the three nations. This deleted scene could have been great for Steiner’s character development, especially if he had also visited Burmecia, to further emphasize his dogmatic fealty in the first quarter of the story. Further, the recent death of the Alexandrian king could have introduced a more believable change in Brahne’s character, with her grief having been the catalyst for Kuja’s manipulations.
Zidane nails Revolver Ocelot’s iconic “meeow!” in a sneaking mission at Lindblum castle :)
THE ANCIENT MAP THAT IS GIVEN TO ZIDANE BY CID MAY PREDATE THE MIST. This was my absolute favorite, and I have no idea why that ONE line was removed, bc it may suggest that much of the world was explored (perhaps by the summoners? perhaps by explorers like Ipsen???) before Garland created the Soulcage, thus causing the roots of the Iifa tree to emanate rejected souls as Mist. In turn, the appearance of Mist spurred centuries of the aforementioned wars between the three nations, which may be why the Mist Continent is aptly named for its dense amount of, well... expelled Gaian souls.
#Final Fantasy IX#FFIX#Final Fantasy#MGS#The Mist is really interesting bc#it's a recycling of death in this ff#unlike others installments in the series#Kuja used mist directly to manufacture black mages#which were used as weapons of war

Once you're out of the basic tutorial areas, you can go virtually anywhere on the map without having to wait around for the story to catch up to any locale. There's also a wonderful element of freedom in the exploration aspects of the game. When it comes to successfully catching new Nexomon, there are new elements like feeding that Nexomon favorable treats and using the right kind of traps. It sounds, and is, extremely similar to Pokémon, but it throws in a few key differences to keep things feeling fresh. You play as a human trainer on a quest to become the very best as you catch and tame Nexomon to climb the ladder of greatness. Styled like the top-down Pokémon games from the Gameboy era, Nexomon is a charming monster-catching and battling game RPG. So heavily inspired that it often gets slapped with the label "Pokémon Clone." However, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I think many players will be shocked to discover how fun and fresh Nexomon Extinction can be. It is an inescapable face that Nexomon is heavily inspired by Pokémon.

Whether you're up for medieval fantasy or futuristic sci-fi action, Final Fantasy has something for everyone, easily making them some of the best RPGs around for Android - or any platform for that matter!

You may have seen ads for Final Fantasy XV, but do note that the game was not directly developed by Square Enix and is full of pay-to-win mechanics. That being said, you're getting the full game with all of these, so 2GB is a reasonable trade-off. Just note that these games can take up a LOT of space, like upwards of 2GB. Most of the adventures and a few spin-offs are there for you to spend hours and hours with, which makes them worth the cash (they can be as much as $21!). Play your way through the entire sci-fi/fantasy saga if you want to help Cloud stop Sephiroth, help Cecil stop Golbez, or help defeat Queen Brahne alongside Zidane. If you have any love in your heart for the series, then you'll definitely want at least one of these titles on your phone or tablet. One of the most beloved RPG sagas is well-represented on Android with over a dozen iconic Final Fantasy games to choose from. This game is definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of either Battle Chasers or simply looking for a new JRPG to dive into. Gully is joined by a supporting cast that includes Knowlan the wise old mage who always travels with Calibretto, an ancient war golem built for battle that developed his own sentience and emotions. The main character of the story is a young girl named Gully who is on a quest to find her father, Aramus, a renowned hero who left behind powerful gauntlets before mysteriously disappearing - gauntlets that his daughter now makes use of in her own epic adventure. An RPG is only as good as its story and characters, and given that this game is based on a graphic novel of the same name, we're given fully developed characters and a compelling story. Along with the dense and sprawling world to explore that's teeming with enemies to do battle with, there are also deep crafting elements for upgrading your team's weapons, armors, and magical jewelry. The turn-based combat is inspired by all the favorites you remember from the JRPG genre and is a real treat even for a casual fan like myself. Hallelujah!Įverything about this game is polished and complete, and it starts with a robust overworld that's filled with hidden dungeons to explore, epic bosses to take down, and other surprises along the way. Battle Chasers: Nightwar is an award-winning JRPG that offers one of the most complete mobile RPG experiences you'll play in 2020 - and that's complete in the sense that there are no in-app purchases or paid DLC to worry about.
