The House of Lament was a once pocket Domain that could manifest in any other Domain, until it settled in the Blightwood of Borca in 746 BC. Why Borca is unclear, yet Borcans are not known for taking the restless spirits of the undead seriously and often view them solely as parlour tricks or sources of entertainment. Perhaps, in knowing this, the House can claim more souls in Borca than it would be able to elsewhere. A pity, I always enjoyed sending meddlesome fools to explore it whenever it visited Darkon.

What is now known as the House of Lament was once the castle of Lord Dranzorg, a warlord who encouraged his followers to ravage the surrounding countryside as a form of entertainment. Upon rampaging through Lord Silva’s lands, Silva negotiated a peace treaty with the Dranzorg by offering him his daughter Mara’s hand in marriage and in exchange asked for Dranzorg’s to cease his senseless violence. Mara was a beautiful, innocent woman with coppery red hair as many innocents in Ravenloft tend to be…

Silva was more than a fool to sell his child to Dranzorg. He went back on his word before Mara even arrived at his castle. Dranzorg’s thugs slaughtered Mara’s escort, then captured her. Claiming that Silva deceived him and Mara never arrived, then Dranzorg continued his assault against Silva’s people.

Meanwhile, Dranzorg ordered the fortification of the northern tower of his keep and upon its completion had Mara sealed within as an offering to some nameless deity. Many superstitious types believed that making such sacrifices were necessary to fortify a keep, though in most cases an animal, such as a stag, was sealed within the walls, not young ladies.

Mara cursed Dranzorg and his men as they sealed her fate. It was thought she would survive a day or so, but her screams echoed throughout the castle far beyond what any deemed capable. Unable to rest with her continual screams, Dranzorg ordered her tomb opened to ensure she would haunt them no more.

As soon as her tomb was open, the screaming came to an abrupt end and there was no sign of Mara within. The next evening, the guards on watch heard a woman singing from the tower and ascended to its top. Upon the morrow, they were discovered laying at the tower’s base, their forms shattered as if they had jumped. For several months this occurred on a nightly basis with more and more of Dranzorg’s people seemingly flinging themselves from the top of Mara’s tower.

These deaths slowly drove Dranzog into despair and madness. One evening, alone in his castle, Dranzog heard a woman calling to him. Unable to resist her call, Dranzog followed her voice to the tower. He crawled within the space that was once Mara’s tomb and died.

Centuries passed and the castle fell to ruin, until only the tower remained. A merchant, Loren Halvhrest, purchased the land and admiring the tower, built a house attached to it. Perhaps it was all the unearthly screams and perpetually cold stones that made the tower so desirable to Loren. Whatever his reasoning, it is no surprise that his entire family disappeared in mysterious ways shortly after settling within their new home.

The House of Lament is unique in that the spirit of evil that once possessed Dranzog’s castle fused with Mara’s innocent one and it is through her the house can lure other’s to their doom. It’s only goal is to capture as many souls as possible so Mara is never alone. The House cannot be physically nor magically harmed and it will not let anyone foolish enough to enter its premises leave unless someone is left behind.

In Van Richten’s new guide, Mara is no longer an innocent spirit corrupted by an unknown evil sealed within the remains of a once great fortress. Instead, Mara is said to be a Knight who swore to retake her family’s home after Dranzog seized their castle. In this version of the tale, both Mara and Dranzog were bitter enemies who both sealed countless individuals in the walls of the castle. The remaining tale is similar, the castle became a house and Dranzog is sealed within its walls and Mara acts to ensure more spirits are trapped within the House and perhaps escape herself.

Okay, so, job search: Going bad. Commissions: Going worse (because I have none), so as a mental exercise I decide to just just flesh out one of the domains of dread from the Guide to Ravenloft, right? Because the blurbs they have about the ones listed are pretty bare and I have nothing better to do. I choose Borca. So now besides having the starts of a comp notebook and sketchbook dedicated to Borca started on up, I've also decided to use it as map practice: so here we are. A basic little Map of Ocrotire Manor. Because Yeah.

Ivana Boritsi is the second Darklord of Borca, usurping her mother, Camille Boritsi when she committed matricide via the traditional Borcan means – poison.  In 740 BC the Grand Conjunction caused Borca to absorb Dorvinia, her cousin Ivan’s Domain. Currently, Borca is ruled by these poisonous noble cousins, but today I am only going to address Ivana’s descent into Darklordom.

Camille wanted nothing more for her daughter to mirror her in every possible way. An admirable goal. What parent would not want to see their legacies carried forward in their heirs? Installing hatred in one of the Bortisi bloodline should not be a difficult task, yet Camille failed to mold Ivana into the man hating daughter she desired.

The young, influential Ivana desired the experience of ‘true love’. Bah. Overrated dribble best left in fairytales. In her search, she found Pieter – a poetic and musician. He, however, showed no interest in Ivana, so naturally she took to pursuing him like a relentless zealot.  He, like the gloriously vain artist he was, only took interest in Ivana when she expressed interest in his art. And so, Ivana became one of the first groupies in Ravenloft…

Camille, seeing her daughter find ‘true love’ in this musical hack, decided to demonstrate to Ivana just how horrible all men truly were. She pretended to be Ivana and came into Pieter’s bed under the cloak of darkness. When Ivana discovered them together, she was devastated. Camille quickly convinced Ivana that Pieter had seduced her and Ivana should kill him for it in the Boritsi fashion.

Ivana saturated her body in a powerful poison that did no harm to her, but allowed her to kill Pieter with a single kiss. Camille had finally obtained the man-hating, poisonous daughter she always dreamed of. Ivana, however, did not see her revenge complete until she mother suffered the same fate as her lover and with Camille’s last breath, Ivana became the Darklord of Borca.

Now, her body is permanently seeped in poison. Ivana is in her 60s, yet appears no older than 18. A gift bestowed upon her by our tormentors, allowing her to stay young and beautiful without the curse of undeath. There is, naturally, always a price for their gifts and though Ivana may give all appearances of the innocent and beautiful young woman, part of her true nature is revealed by the unnaturally and sickly shade of blue that stains her lips and fingernails. Though Ivana hides these blemishes beneath lairs of makeup, I would not be surprised if she was able to convince the Borcans that blue lips and nails are the latest fashion craze.

When she succumbs to mortal slumber, Ivana’s horror is revealed – she appears as if she died from poison – swelled face, protruding and blackened tongue, and the pallor of a blotted corpse. Perhaps this is why she ensures the death of any lover she takes for fear they may see her as she truly is.

As a ruler, Ivana is more interested in funding her lavish lifestyle and manipulating countless courtiers for her to seduce and destroy. When Borca absorbed Dorvinia, Ivana was more than happy to let Ivan take over the political concerns of their realm.

5e Version

In van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, Ivana’s story has changed in some ways and remained the same in others. In this version, both of her parents earned her scorn. Her father for favoring male heirs over herself and her mother for successfully seducing Pieter from her. After Camille’s betrayal, Ivana created aromatic toxins and killed all of her brothers for the crime of being favored by her father and her mother for seducing Pieter.

When her father lay on his death bed, he named Ivan Dilisnya as his heir. Now, of course, Ivana assumed this was because he was a petty man…but perhaps killing everyone with poison in a rather unsubtle means clued your father into your true nature, Ivana. Though, Ivan is a rather poor choice as an heir as well. With his final word, Ivana released another toxic gas and killed her already dying father and their countless servants. A rather pointless act, but it earned her a Domain and the taint of poison beneath her skin.

Üretme işi, üreticiyle yapılır. O nedenle günümüzün temel sloganı bellidir: Üretici baştacı!

Son zamanlarda çok fazla yarrkkurek harcama yaptım, ev kurmaya çalışan sorumlu insan profilini kabullenemedim. Zaten istesem de tek başıma borca girmeden yetişemem. Fakir evi kurcam ben, aranan hiçbir zımbırtı aleti bulamayacak kimse. Törensel sunumlarim olmayacak, yoğurt/kefir makinem, filtre kahvecim, airfryerrrlar falan yok öyle bir şey, altın varakkslı kulplar, dysonlar, kendi kendini temizleyen çaycılar, hamur makinesi, kendi kendine sıçan klozetler, envai çeşit banyo, nevresim takımları olmayacak. Kimse ayak numarasına uygun terlik bulamayacak, ama ayakkabiyla da sokmayacagim çıplak ayaklarıyla lap lap dolaşıp karınları agriyacak. Belki süzgeci bile unutacağım, çöpleriyle kahve çay ikram edeceğim. Renkli kokteyller için semtin güzel yerlerini googlelatacagim.
