Once upon a time, long before humans set foot outside of Eden and long before his inelegant landing in a pool of boiling sulfur, Crowley had been an angel. An angel with a very different name and far less cynicism. And that angel was made to build Her creations. He built stars, nebulas, and other beautiful and complicated things far out there in the cosmos. He shaped fundamental elements and materials into new creations. He molded burning fires and sculpted dust into breath-taking patterns. He started bright and powerful reactions, serving as a catalyst to spark the birth of stars. He set various celestial objects spinning. He built. He took raw materials and built wonderous things with them. He built because that was the role that She made him for. In the end, was rebuilding that much different than building? And wasn't rebuilding fairly close to healing? When it was his angel's existence on the line, Crowley was willing to grab at any chance available. He would find a way to fix what had been damaged. He would find a way to save him.

Crowley is in hot pursuit and will stop at nothing, finding some unlikely aid along the way, and bringing up his True Form when the time is needed. Some depictions of pain and violence, minor character deaths by Holy Water, and mild gore. Also mild claustrophobic and dingy descriptions of Hell. And the boys relationship can be flat out platonic asexual best of friends or downright dirty lovers. The story is up to you and is more about how far they would go for each other. ;) No, no monster sex in this one either (comb for my last fic if you need it). Just BAMF Crowley ready to walk 500 Miles through Heaven or Hell to save his Angel.

Season 1 and post season 1

Post season 1 fictions might be my favourite in-universe fictions. So full of possibilities, and with the kind of angst that wasn't quite as painful as in the post season 2 fics. At the end of season two they were free and the world was their very own oyster. This list will be updated, both with fics I haven't yet read, and with fics I read before i started my lists.

Multichapters:

Wrong Turn by anticyclone, D20Owlbear. Rated Teen, 37K. P. Dec 20.

Honestly, I don't know why this fiction touched me so much. I just couldn't stop thinking about it for days after I finished it. It's a post season 1 fiction where Crowley suddenly finds himself in a parallel universe at the time the apocalypse is just about to happen. The Crowley and Aziraphale in that universe have a different history to our Crowley and Aziraphale. All our Crowley wants to do is to go back to his universe and his very own angel, but how? As you follow the main plot and focus on Crowley's thoughts and actions, you'll start slowly feeling the other story get hold of you, and it won't let go until the very end and beyond.

Pay Per View, by IneffableToreshi. Rated E, 22K. P. Feb 24.

Set after season 1. Aziraphale has an event to attend in Canada and asks Crowley to accompany him. Crowley is delighted to oblige of course, until some additional reasons for Aziraphale's trip emerge. This story features fanon!Crowley at his best! The fiction goes from tender to heartbreaking to smutty in a heartbeat and it's great.

The Lines Between, by Ginger_Cat, rated M, 21k. P. Oct 23.

Set after season 1, but written after season 2, this is the first fiction I remember loving, and it dragged me into the fanfiction rabbit hole. I loved it so much! After Armageddon't, Crowley and Aziraphale try living a normal life, going on holiday and spending Christmas with friends. But is it enough? Tender, deep, with just the right amount of angst, and the sweetest happy ending.

One Miraculous December, by journeytogallifrey. Rated T, 187k. P. Dec 20.

One December, old memories seem to materialise and come into life whenever Crowley is with Aziraphale. One each day. Crowley worries that he’s subconsciously bringing memories to life and that Aziraphale will find out his true feelings for him. Lovely and sweet. I read this fic well before I started putting down my thoughts about the stories I read, so it’s difficult over a year later to put into words how much I loved it, but I did!

The Grindr Logo Doesn’t Even Have A ‘G’ In It, by indieninja92. Rated E, 79k. P. Aug 20.

After Armageddon’t, Aziraphale and Crowley settle into a life of amicable companionship. Aziraphale doesn’t let himself fantasise about being anything more than friends because that would only lead to heartbreak, right? So he decides to use Grindr to meet people he can have some fun with, no feeling involved. I love how confident and in control Aziraphale is in this fic. The story is a joy to read and has the sweetest ending.

How To Woo A Demon, by Bookwormgal. Rated T, 23k. P. Feb 20.

After Armageddon’t, Aziraphale decides he wants to move his and Crowley’s relationship to the next level. He just has to find a way to tell Crowley how he feels that can’t possibly be misinterpreted. So he does some research into Demon courting rituals. This fic is sweet and hilarious, and the characterisation is spot on. It’s another one of those stories I read a long time ago, and has stayed with me. I love it!

32 Questions That Lead To Love, by ffonippop. Rated E, 32k. P. Oct 23.

Written after season 2, but set after season 1. This fiction takes into account events shown in season 2’s minisodes, but in this universe the final fifteen never happened (and isn’t that a nice fantasy in itself?).

Crowley starts subtly and, um, nonchalantly asking Aziraphale questions from ‘32 questions to fall in love’. It doesn’t mean anything, right? Oh, I love this fic and the sense of the way things could have been.

Delicate and tender post season 1 fic where our Ineffables open up to each other and Talk Feelings. It's what we all need.

Not Nice by Sad_chaos_goblin, rated E, 2k. P. Dec 23.

Great one shot that follows the wall slamming scene!What would have happened if the former nun hadn't interrupted their "Intimate moment"? This fic is a treat, sweet and hot and fluffy all at the same time.

The Chains That Freed Us, by angelsnuffbox (MrsCaulfield) Rated E, 6k. P. Nov 20.

Set during the events of season 1. Crowley accidentally finds a way to go back in time and when and where would he accidentally go if not to 1793 in Paris? smut and sweetness ensue.

Accidental Sleepover, by MetalMiez. Rated T, 11K. P. Jun 24.

Set after season one, this fiction is a sweet account of how Crowley and Aziraphale get to confess their feelings to each other. There are references to season two, but in this what-if universe it never happened.

One Conversation And Several Moments, by Angelica_Tree. Rated Teen, 3k. P. Sep 24.

This lovely fiction is set after season 1 and is not season 2 compliant. After the failed Armageddon, Aziraphale and Crowley are free to be themselves and to be together, but after spending 6000 years avoiding certain subjects, some conversation may be difficult to start. Or, in Crowley's case, difficult to take part in with ore than a monosyllable and a blink every couple of hours. Aziraphale is not deferred, of course. Sweet and funny in equal measure!

Proving One’s Loyalty, by indigovigilance , rated E, 4k. P. Jan 24.

Set towards the end of season 1, Aziraphale goes to heaven to speak with a higher authority only to find that Gabriel has taken Crowley prisoner. Aziraphale has to torture him in order to prove himself to heaven. Smut ensues. 

You Can't Un-See A Dog, by Dannye Chase (HolyCatsAndRabbits), HolyCatsAndRabbits. Rated T, 4k. P. Jan 20.

This was one of the highlights of my month, fiction-wise! Crowley is summoned by two humans to be offered in sacrifice. Aziraphale knocks on their door within, like, 3 minutes. I just loved this story: The light banter and the interactions between Crowley and Aziraphale are chef's kiss; the adorable domesticity of their relationship shines through in a situation that really is not domestic at all; Aziraphale is being his incredibly brilliant self; AND there's a little mystery-solving thrown in for good measure! Top marks! 

Plausible Deniability, by GayDemonDisaster (scrapheapchallenge), rated E, 5k. P. Dec 22.

This story was so, so lovely! Set before and after the first failed Armageddon and not season 2 complaint, but to me it really feels like it goes very well with my personal headcanon regarding season 2 in general and the final fifteen in particular: they do communicate and they don't need words. The story itself is about Aziraphale denying to himself that things are happening by pretending it's all a dream. The writer illustrates their deep connection and mutual understanding beautifully. 

One Night In Bangor (And The World Is Your Oyster), by Atalan. Rated E, 17k. P. Jul 19.

I think this needs no introduction, but just in case you are lucky enough to yet have to read it for the first time. Once every thousand years, heaven and hell share a corporate party. There is a wager going on at this particular party: can a demon tempt an angel into having sex with them? This fic is so hot, sensual, and at the same time sweet. The banter between Crowley and Aziraphale is perfect and so is their characterisation. However it’s set at some non specific point in time before Armageddon’t, and as such, don’t expect a happily ever after.

This story is great. Aziraphale decides to woo Crowley in line with how demons woo each other, but Crowley doesn't realise it . . . after all, there is no way an angel would know about demonic wooing.

Good Omens Fan Fiction Friday (2/14/25) - Be My Valentine

What's better than chocolate and roses for Valentine's Day? Why Good Omens fan fics, of course. I've chosen my three favorite Valentine's fics and three others that are about generally pitching woo (surely Aziraphale would call it that, wouldn't he?)

Let's start with My Funny Valentine (G) by theshoparoundthecorner, a through-the-ages fic which starts with Aziraphale as Valentinus in the third century. In it we see Crowley giving sweet Valentine's gifts to Aziraphale until he gets one himself. Fluffier than a golden retriever after a blow out at the groomers. Oh, and fun footnotes as well. In Courtship Rituals (T) by @copperplatebeech, Aziraphale opens his new Soho bookshop on February 14. Of course, Crowley shows up to help him celebrate. This is a charming retelling of the cut bookshop scene from season 1 of Good Omens.

Crowley is a mature college student struggling to finish an assignment due at midnight on Valentine's Day in Just Up the Stairs (E) by @foolishlovers, @ineffabildaddy, and featuring lovely art by @omens-for-ophelia. Things get worse when the tenants downstairs hold a loud party. Luckily, Aziraphale lives upstairs and can offer a more quiet setting for homework, yeah, homework. Bonus character--Harry the Rabbit.

And now, I rec some fabulous, romantic stories not necessarily set on Valentine's day. First, is a WIP (but it's finished; I've read it in beta). Much Ado About Omens (E) by @searching4sarahtonin is the Good Omens/Much Ado About Nothing crossover you didn't know you were craving. Of course, it has delicious banter. And an eventual happy ending for our flirty pair. We all know that Beatrice is one of Shakespeare's most delightful women characters. And lovely Aziraphale takes on the mantle with all the sauciness you'd expect.

One of the first fics I ever read was How to Woo a Demon (T) by @bookwormgal. After the Armageddon't, Aziraphale is ready to take his relationship with Crowley to the next level. But how to impart his feelings? Luckily, the bookshop has a tome on demonic courtship rituals. How long will it take Crowley to realize he's being wooed?

And finally, a brand new fic by AppleSeeds, The Greasy Pole (T). After Furfur gets a promotion to temptations, Shax recommends he talk to Crowley about how to tempt humans to lust. Luckily, Aziraphale volunteers to let Crowley demonstrate on him. Will Furfur learn his lessons?

No worries, and no I haven't, thanks for the recommendation! ^_^

As of right now, I don't have any plans to, specifically because I haven't seen anything those characters are from (either version of DuckTales, Goof Troop, any of the Mickey comics, etc). I only learned about Mortimer Mouse recently, for example :P Plans are always subject to change as I learn and experience new things, of course, so this is a "not at this time, sorry", not a hard "no".

Everyone knows that demons can’t feel love. It was one of those well-established facts that no one even bothered to doubt anymore. The sky is blue, the Ineffable Plan was beyond comprehension or understanding, angels do not question or doubt Her commands, and demons can’t love. Angels could sense love and none of them ever sensed love in the presence of demons. Everyone considered that to be conclusive evidence and moved on. Believing otherwise was foolish and a waste of time.

But while it was considered an unquestionable fact of the universe, it wasn’t quite accurate. Demons were perfectly capable of feeling love. Any form of love. Despite common knowledge and despite the fact that the Fall ensured that they could no longer sense Her love, demons can experience love.

What demons can’t do, however, is feel love and survive.

And though he was chosen, he did not accept his role and rejected it and his connection to Lucifer. Warlock Dowling was not chosen. He was born as an ordinary child, with no special skills or powers. He should have lived an average life. But he was raised with certain Expectations. Occult and ethereal entities Expected him to be the Anti-Christ. He was not chosen or fated for such a role, but reality tends to bend a little when angels and demons have Expectations. In the end, it is just a series of choices.

Fic Rec Time!

Summary:

An encounter with a Variant results in Loki coming in contact with a dangerous magical artifact. One that is guaranteed to extinguish the life out of anyone who is unfortunate enough to be affected by it. He knows that he is doomed the moment it happens.

His friends are not likely to let that happen.

Genuinely good gen fics that still deliver emotionally are harder to find than they should be, and this one is excellent.
