She stared at him with crossed arms unable to contain her smile; that cheekiness of his made her feel so wanted, it was a heady feeling. At the mere idea of tasting those lips she felt every part of her body catch fire.

« We are here. Can you concentrate on your work? »

« Of course, I am a professional. » he exclaimed, addressing her with a dizzying wink and got off.

She waited a few seconds in the car, trying to convince herself not to mess with him; she hated it when she liked someone Bobby knew, it was harder not to see a hunter again, and she would have liked to avoid awkward situations at work.

I’ll definitely buy this book before Christmas! I can play a couple of Cinderella songs, songs from The Wall by Pink Floyd, and I'm trying to learn something from GNR. Boxing Day is definitely the best day for shopping haha. Oh, I went to concerts of a local band, I believe that now they are known only in the post-USSR countries, but in the 90s a member of this group as part of another group received an award from the hands of drummer Bon Jovi for the best-selling album lol. Bob Floyd was not a man of words.

He observed. He prefered to stay at the end of the room in a social gathering. He remained quiet in the briefing room when a exercise was explained. He played pool in silence with his friends. He didn't need to speak.

That is, until he saw her.

Y/n L/n. The base doctor. They called her Angel. It wasn't a call sign. It was just that she was an actual angel. Beautiful eyes, warm smile, and medical skills that some of the most prestigious doctors of the world would envy.

She had seen some nasty stuff. But she never lost her smile.

And Bob was infatuated.

He watched her from afar, that was his specialty. He looked at her with devotion. He had never talked to her but was ready to give her life for Angel.

"Bob, you should talk to her" Phoenix said while approaching the target. They had to practice miracle number 1 for the uranium mission.

"Phoenix..."

"No, Bob, listen up. Chances are that we get assigned to a fucking dangerous mission. It can go well or it can go really really wrong. And you don't want to have a single regret when the time comes" she said vehemently.

"Are you talking about Angel?" asked Rooster through the radio.

"Yeah. Bob's been crushing on her"

"Phoenix!"

"C'mon, Bob. You're a good looking man. You don't have anything to lose"

"Except I have everything to lose. What if she doesn't like navy men?" That was one of Bob's biggest fears. She was surrounded by Navy men all day and even some nights. Did she really want to have something going on with one of them?

"Well, that's for her to know and for you to find out" added Rooster while moving closer to the other aircraft.

Bob was about to respond when they had an accident with some birds. A tiny bird that made them lose an engine. And then the other one. Phoenix tried her best to get them back, to save the aircraft. But it was impossible. They were falling down and there was no way of stopping it.

He understood in that moment what Phoenix meant by regret. He regretted not having courage enough to talk to her. He regretted not finding out if she liked him. If she would go out with him. What was her favorite color. Her favorite food. Her favorite movie. He regretted not knowing how her hand felt in his. Would it be soft? Would it be calloused, maybe, for the amount of hours she spend working? Would they be tiny against his bigger ones? And what about the sound of her laugh? Would be a small, cute one? Would she laugh with her whole chest?

He would never know, though. Ejecting from an aircraft was risky. There were a lot of possibilities of not making it out alive. But he would try. Because he wanted to know what Y/n's hands felt like.

Memories from after the ejection were blurry in his mind. He didn't remember landing on the ground. He didn't remember being rescued and taken to the base. He didn't remember how Phoenix screamed in agony when Bob didn't woke up, believing that she had lost not only her backseater, but also her friend.

But he did remember the contact of a soft, warm hand against his cheek.

"Lieutenant Floyd?"

Who was the owner of that beautiful voice? Did he die and went to heaven?

He opened his eyes, blinking several times, blinded by the beautiful woman in front of him. He understood, then, why they called her Angel.

"Lieutenant, can you hear me?"

"Yes, doctor. Loud and clear" he answered making her sigh in relief.

She smiled and the world stopped spinning for a second. God, how could someone be so gorgeous?

"Good. That's good. We'll run some tests to see if you're both okay. But seems to me that you're perfectly healthy, just a few scratches here and there"

"I don't know, doctor. I don't feel very good"

She frowned, getting even closer to him. Her cologne was even as sweet as her. Bob was convinced that she was a real angel send to Earth.

"What's wrong?"

"My heart, doctor. It hurts"

"Does it hurt to much? Where exactly?"

"I don't know, it just hurts every time you smile"

She got flustered. Bob knew how someone acted when flustered because he had seen it. The way she avoided his eyes. How she laughed, how she put her hair behind her ear. Yeah, completely flustered.

"I'll have to stop smiling"

"Oh, please don't. That would hurt even more"

She laughed. He smiled.

"Okay, lieutenant. Time to rest. The nurse will run some tests and I'll be back later with the results. I'll see you later" she said before leaving.

Phoenix, who had seen the whole scene, was on her bed with her jaw absolutely opened.

"You! Where does all that flirty behavior come from? I thought you didn't like to talk to people?"

"Maybe I just didn't have anything to say"

Phoenix shook her head, laying down to rest. Rooster would never believe the things she just saw.

Bob knew that from that moment his only mission would be to fluster Y/n, to see her smile, to hear her laugh... Make her fall in love with him until he could call her "his angel".

And maybe, if he was lucky, "Mrs. Floyd".

And Phoenix went to your college graduation too.

Everytime she comes home, she sees her parents first and you second.

She invites you to San Diego where she is currently stationed, and my God do you need a vacation.

When your plane lands and you step into the airport, there's your best friend in the flesh holding a sign that says "Y/N or Bust"

HUGS AND TEARS.

She doesn't allow you time to rest, she drags your ass to this cute little bar on the beach.

She introduces you to all the pilots she flies with

And like they are all hot as hell?

Like girl how do you work with these men and not fall in love?

Anyways, as much as you like Hangman and Rooster showboating for your attention. You personally find yourself instantly pulled towards the man Phoenix called Bob.

He seemed shy and sweet, the total opposite of the other men in the bar.

You two sat and watched as the others played pool and darts.

Phoenix knows that look on your face and smirks. Of course her best friend would fall for her backseater. It's almost like it's fate (or just Bay's great writing skills ayyyyooo)

But you see how close they seem and even though Phoenix hasn't told you about having a boyfriend you can see they care about each other. You're pretty sure they are together.

At the end of the night Bob ends up driving the two of you to Phoenix's house off base.

And like he was even nice enough to make you guys glasses of water, advil, and snacks?

Gentleman. Pure gentleman.

You and Phoenix sleep in the same bed just like when you were kids.

When you wake up, Bob is there with coffee?

"Damn Phoenix, your boyfriend is super sweet."

They both laugh and you are all *confused*

"Babe, Bob is my backseater and my best Navy friend."

Bob blushes deep ass red yo, because he finds you super hot (and babe you are so fine)

Phoenix gets an idea and man you're going to hate her.

Your entire vacation you are on the beach or at the Hard Deck with the gang.

And somehow you and Bob always get paired up?

Like it never fails?

Then on your last night they throw you a going away party.

And Phoenix suggests playing Seven Minutes in Heaven.

"What are we five?"

"Well you are Bagman."

"Touché"

And huh. When it's your turn, it magically lands on Bob.

So you two are locked in the closet together.

And man it's a tight squeeze.

Like your head is laying on his chest and your legs are kinda tangled trying to be comfortable

"We don't have to kiss you know, it's just a stupid gam-"

You cut him off with the sweetest kiss.

He totally is shook and blushes hard-core.

"Can we do that again?"

"Please."

Literally you two are in there making out for at least 25 minutes.

Then the door opens and there stands Phoenix with the biggest smile on her face.

"My bestie and my backseater!" She yells and the rest of the Daggers start whistling and clapping.

You both blush but in these past two weeks you see why Phoenix loves this group of people and you're glad she has so many people who love her just like you do.

You and Bon text each other everyday and you fall a little more with each text.

Then about 6 months into making the long distance work, you surprise them both by moving your life out to San Diego.

"Y/N?"

"Surprise!"

You happily live in the sunshine and sand, side by side by your best friend and her super cute backseater.

Y/N Floyd does have a nice ring to it doesn't it?
