Book Review about the story "ABNKKBSNPAko"by: Bob-ong

Before I start my book review about the story of Roberto written by Bob Ong ,let me show you first the background of the author of this story. Bob Ong is a Filipino author, who has published numerous books. It all started when he published a little green book that borrows the design from a blackboard with writings that looks written with chalk. "ABNKKBSNPLAko" That's the title of his first book that can be considered a Pinoy Classic. It has humorous themes that made it popular, also because it reflects the life of Filipinos. His journey did not stop there though. He only started making us smile and be in awe with that creation of his. In the story entitled ABNKKBSNPLAKo?! by Bob Ong, this reflect to the story of natural life of the main character (Roberto). The story talks about his kindergarten, elementary, highschool and college life. His not even a responsible student in his school days, he was very lazy to go to school early, he even not interested in school especially in his college life. As the story talks about of Roberto (the name of the main character), his life was not just simple and delectable,he experience a sort of stupidity and also an emature things comes out. His school days was ussualy reflects in real life of some student who was studying right now, because his story was a natural estate of fact in this generation.            As I read the story of  his status in his life, he can afford many things, just like he can study in college because his father can afford it due to his work in a ship maybe his father is a seaman, I dont know if it is,because it is  not stated there. But I don't understand him why he was somewhat an unenterested of his study, I don't know what was his personal reason maybe an error of his own perception or something. But despite to his irresponsible attitude he knows how to handle the circumstances he faced due to his irresponsible doings in and out of the schools. He have a attitude of facing his consequences by recovering his failed grades, for example, he took a summer class to recover his failed grades in college and also to become  advanced. The Number one issue of this story was his willingness to achieved his dreams, but how can he built his success if he was very lazy and irresponsible student? Many struggles he faced but one that mostly captured my heart was he was telling the truth to his family about what happen to him or in his study, he apologized, he was not doing it because the conscience attack him but he did it because this was right. He became a teacher after all, there are a lot of struggles that he encountered. At first he won't love his job but in the end he slowly understand what life is, the life of being teacher was not easy ,you've become a second mother of many students, and this is difficult, you need to adjust and understand in each individual.             I have many things that I realize and a lesson that can helps you to be guided  in the story of Bob Ong entitled BNKKBSNPLAKo. Many situations there that can rarely appreciated by the readers, stand for your own and be responsible enough to balance anything in this world, don't waste your time for unnecessary things, make your life worth it. SACRIFICE AND PATIENCE HELPS YOU TO BUILD YOUR SUCCESS.       Note to remember for those students including me, "RESPECT YOUR TEACHERS BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR HERO,OUR 2ND MENTOR AND A INSTRUMENT OF GOD FOR US TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

BOB ONG: THE FACELESS AUTHOR

     Roberto “Bob” Ong is one of the contemporary authors of the Philippines who was born in February 1975 somewhere in Quezon City. Bob Ong is not the real name of the author. The pseudonym came from his website entitled “Bobong Pinoy” where it encloses entertaining works and contexts. This website won the “People Choice Philippine Web Award” in the genre of Weird/Humor in the year of 1998 but eventually closed by Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada.

Bob Ong started to have a name in the literature industry when he wrote the book, “ABNKKBSNPLAko?!”. This book is about the life of a student from his childhood to the era when he needs to find a job. He wrote this book for students to feel sympathy from the emotion of the characters inside the book.  He did not fail and this book succeeded and had a movie adaptation that has been led by Jericho Rosales.

This is not the only book that made Bob Ong famous. Some of his famous works are “Bakit Baliktad Magbasa ng Libro Ang Mga Pilipino?”, “Ang Paboritong Libro ni Hudas”. “Alamat ng Gubat”, “Stainless Longganisa”, and the horror-genre “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan”. 

        In the season of having a name in the industry, people made many assumptions about who is the real person behind the Bob Ong name. One of the biggest conclusions they had is Paolo Manalo. One of the greatest poets. He was also the editor of Philippine Free Press at that time. But this assumption has been immediately declined by Paolo. He said that it is an honor to be mistaken as Bob Ong but he didn’t own the name.

Bob Ong is known for his writing style which is communicative and light-weight communication but persuasive to many readers. The stories you never expect, enclose his heavy and worrisome work that tackles the social issues of the country and the individual issues. He also said that he writes with his own style. He did not want to make a complicated map to be decoded with difficulty. He writes for the goal that many people will understand his works and read it.

         If analyzed, Bob Ong is still one of the famous writers that marked the mind of the youth. One of the authors that will leave you with a deep lesson about morality in life. His stories will leave you to explore social welfare. His works might be old or not updated to the modern life we had now but it still has the impact for the people who still want to read his books. His literary piece will continue to flow and help for the people who still openly want to read. Until now, Bob Ong is still a faceless author, a writer that is unidentified, but it doesn’t stop him to be known in the world of literature.

Reflection of the Neglected Reality

MacArthur is a novel with a combination of comedy and neglected reality here in the Philippines. A group of friends named Cyrus, Voltron, Jim, and Noel. All of them are deprived and not wealthy. Cyrus is the youngest member in the group, and he is good at stealing, doing strategies and has a lot of criminal records. Amadeus Denver Kantuyan, better known as Voltron is the skinny robot-looking person in the story and has suffered a lot compared to the other members. Jim is the oldest member in the group at the age of 23 years old. He has a family to feed. Noel is a college student that came from a middle-class family and stopped studying due to financial problems. The struggles of Filipino youth in dealing with the issues of today such as drugs and vices, unemployment, education, and family expectations. The novel is notable for applying a bold and realistic look at life in a Philippine community. Roberto “Bob” Ong, is a contemporary Filipino author born in February 1975 in Quezon City. He was known for his pseudonym “Bob Ong ” that came from a follower of his satire website from the ’90s called ‘Bobong Pinoy’ that mistook him for a certain ‘BobOng.’ Bob Ong. BobOng Pinoy, it was uncanny, he stated. He was also known for his conversational writing technique, creating humorous and reflective depictions of Philippine life. In 2001, Bob Ong published his first book entitled “ABNKKBSNPLAKO,” it is said to be the book that closely states his life story as he frankly retells his student days in a way that could make any person laugh while reading. After 16 years, he has published nine outstanding and insightful books entitled – “Bakit Baliktad Magbasa ng Libro ang mga Pilipino?”, “Ang Paboritong Libro ni Hudas”, “Alamat ng Gubat”, “Stainless Longganisa”, “Macarthur”, “Kapitan Sino”, “Ang mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan”, “Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin”, and “Si”. There is no such thing as right or wrong decision, it already depends on how other people perceive it, is the main concern of MacArthur. This can be observed throughout the novel with how the main characters made their decisions in every struggle they encounter.

Given the scenario when Noel stole Lyla’s stethoscope. Lyla was wearing her uniform, then she couldn’t find her stethoscope. Lyla knew that Noel had stolen it. Noel stole the stethoscope because he wanted to sell it to buy drugs for his vices while Lyla needs it for her nursing course. In the following few parts, it is shown that both Noel and Lyla are arguing and choosing their decision because of their situation. Before she said the quote, Noel’s mom kept calling him to eat because it was almost time for lunch, but he still hadn’t eaten breakfast. In front of Noel’s room was Lyla’s. She was already wearing her uniform and getting ready for school. Lyla then noticed that her stethoscope was missing and immediately knew that Noel had stolen it from her. Lyla started banging and shouting at Noel’s door, forcing him to return it back to her, but he denied stealing the stethoscope. Lyla went through Noel’s bag, and it turns out Noel had already sold it. “Kinuha nyan ang stethoscope ko.” (argument between Noel and Lyla). The reason why Noel took the stethoscope and sold it was because of his situation, Lyla on the other hand, needs it too for her studies. In their eyes, it is the right decision to argue so they will be able to get what they need. Everyone has priorities and things that are important to them which cause them to make decisions that seem to be the right choices, even if a part of their decision would not result in any good outcome. These choices satisfy them and let people live their lives the way they desire it to be.

“If I had only been given the chance to change my life.“ The group of four friends wanted to change their life, but they lacked hope. Their habits cannot be changed since they have chosen their path. Education is not the answer to a successful life. There are many educated people, but not everyone was given a chance to live a good life. Cyrus mentioned having a new life with his friends, but one of his friends disagreed since he had already tried and failed to change his bad habits. Cyrus wondered whether his life would have been different if he had only been given a chance to study. Would he and his grandfather live a happier and better life? Then Noel answered that not everyone who has studied has a successful life. Jim had thought of selling movie discs as their business after their conversation. To improve their situation, they all agreed that selling movie discs was a good idea. The friends celebrated their success in selling their movie discs. They were at the same place where Voltron’s mom was drinking alcoholic beverages. Aling Seding was the one who was talking about the child that she had sent to study. Her dialogue "Etong si Denver , tong batang to pinag- aral ko dati, sa sabungan naman pala tumutuloy, sabi ko huminto ka na lang wala ka namang pakinabang! hahahahaha!” is an evidence in which the thesis statement that was formulated by the students were connected. Denver was given the chance to go to school but he still chose to go to the cockpit. This proves the thesis statement itself that the choices people make will affect the situation they are in. The future of oneself depends on the person. If the person does not want their life to succeed, their choice will lead them to their end. No matter how hard the person forces themselves to study hard, if the person is not determined enough, they will not be able to achieve success. Being successful is not based on education. It is the person’s will and devotion that will lead them to victory. It is always the person’s choice that will lead them to the path that they have decided.

Voltron was last seen having a conversation with Edwin and his colleagues. Voltron died due to being beheaded, and Edwin might be the one behind this. Edwin is a popular hoodlum known for offering illegal tasks that were so cruel that no one can imagine. The jobs he offers are for those who want to earn large amounts of money quickly but darkly. During that time, Voltron needed cash to survive his daily life. So to obtain what he needed, he sought Edwin for help. This suggests why Edwin was behind all of his death. Knowing Edwin’s capabilities, Voltron primarily did not want to seek help. However, his problems seem to lead him back to Edwin. “O,” kumuha ng higit limang libong piso si Jules sa mga perang pinapatungan ng telephone directory sa mesa. “Pamasahe!” “Hehe!” abot tenga ang ngiti ni Voltron. “Pasko na!” “(a conversation between Jules and Voltron) In connection to the statement, Voltron sees Edwin as his only opportunity to escape from his complications.

Noel’s decision was the best initial step to start a new life. In his situation at that moment, it was the most applicable decision he could make. It can be noticed that he chose to go home, did not feel bothered with how the community would perceive his decision and the way his father forgave him. Due to being accused as a thief, Noel reacted violently. As a result, Mang Fred or Noel’s father drove him out of their house, so he had to stay in his friend’s house for a short period of time. Noel was the only one left out of the four friends, so he felt urged to go back home. He doubted in the beginning. However, once he stepped home, Mang Fred whispered and invited him to eat breakfast. Which meant at the end of the day, his father decided to forgive him. “Kumain ka na.” By the time he goes out, the individuals around him could criticize how Noel was driven out of the house. It proves the thesis statement in a way where Noel made a decision to go home and did not feel troubled with how the society would perceive his decision. Since Noel was the only one left after Voltron was executed, Cyrus was imprisoned for unintentionally shooting his grandfather, and Jim went home to Bicol with his wife, so that is why Noel chose to go home, wherein his father accepted him again. And that is how the author concluded the novel.

The novel MacArthur educates the readers that there is no right or wrong choices. It depends on how or what one’s perspectives, thoughts, or opinions are. These choices that have been made, the people could not tell if that is a good or wrong decision. All decisions that an individual makes are what he/she is surrounded or influenced by. The environment with a different set of people, set of friends, and the changes in the society could affect one’s decisions. Having more options could lead them to much better choices and realize more about the mistakes that they have made before. Sometimes, they will be making bad decisions, but they will learn from the mistakes they have made. The author shows how poverty truly affects people’s lives and also wakes individuals from the reality of life that he/she must be ready for the ups and downs that will happen. In life, there will come a time that they will encounter unexpected situations. Situations can lead to challenges and may mislead their plans, but the author does not mean that it will fail the individual as a person. It tells the readers that they always have the choice to renew their life or start over again, thinking about the wrong decisions they have made before. Being prepared in life, being prepared for what people are going to conquer could make one’s life better and make his/her plans happen. Plans that a person wanted to happen for their life to make it better. Every decision a person makes could be right. But always remember to consider the decisions he/she has been making. Consider it for about ten times and make sure the choice that one makes is what he/she wants and is fully sure about it. The author wants his readers to reflect that everything happens and comes for a reason. One will always realize and learn from every path they take. This story could also tell the readers that an individual can be successful with his/her own will and determination. How will one be successful without doing anything? It is not that a person should always be on top. It is the way he/she sacrifices to achieve one’s goals. All things should be done with perseverance and not taken for granted. An individual must have patience and determination to make one’s goal happen. Having an educational background is not what a person can call living a successful life. Defining one’s purpose in life is the true meaning of success and it is a realization that the reader should make. A successful life does not mean he/she needs to graduate college and have honors or be on top. Sometimes people become successful in the way they perceive it, other people only graduated high school but those people still believe in themselves. Having determination, motivation and sacrifices could lead a person to what he/she defines success as. Try to push oneself to his/her limits and accept things that happen in one’s life. Always remember that there are no wrong choices, choices would only be wrong if an individual cannot stand them. ABNKKBSNPLAKO?

The Story talks about his journey as a Student and as a teacher .Roberto Ong is a simple boy with a simple life. He is studying in a public school,he also get troubled and he also showed us how to cross the river of life in elementary .

After he graduated ,he enters highschool life .watching movies and being with your highschool friends will so much memorable. Roberto talks about Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, of Rizal. love ones and special Someone . Struggle came to his life when he enters highschool, projects, assignments every morning .After those struggles in highschool ,Roberto is now a College student ,but everything has changed he is always absent ,Constantly late that's why he transferred to another school. But then he proceeds and graduated as a teacher .

Roberto found out that being teacher is not easy , you need to learn more than what you teach . Favoritism is unavoidable these days , there's always a smart and dumb learners.

After three years Roberto got married,but he gave up his work . After that he realized that learning and education is important . He was embrrassed when he saw his batch mates ,they are in a big time ,but then Roberto is just a teacher .

This story gave me a learning which is to fight and do not gave up , I was reminded that our future depends on what we do now.

The story of "ABNKKBSNPLAko?" is all about the life of the student named Roberto. It shows how Filipino student strives for their education just to achieved their goals and dreams in life.

Nowadays, a lot of student love their education, they give importance because they believed that education is the key to be a better person, to change their selves, and change their stability in life. Being a student just like Roberto we feel difficulties, problems, projects, assignment, etc. in school. Sometimes we feel doubt, tired, hopeless, surrender, for the reason that we can't overcome this problem, but God never forget you to wake up for to face life challenges and later on you realize that you overcome all of those problems.

In the end, we are still the superior of selves on how we achieved our goals because life is what we make it, and we can make it beautiful and meaningful depending on the virtue's we practice.

In a story entitled ABNKKBSNPLA KO? By bob ongs this reflected to the story of a natural life of a student which is Roberto it is all about on how everything started when he was still kindergarten, elementary, high school to college life. and it talks about how lazy he is and also the bad things that he do just like cutting classes, cheating and he is not interested in school especially when he is in college. he's life isn't easy he experience a sort of stupidity and also an emature things. the life of Roberto reflect to all students that are still studying because all of the stupidity that was done my Roberto is what students do nowadays to boys. base of want I've read Roberto has a good financial support because his father is a seaman, but I don't know if it is, because it is not stated there but I was confused but why is Roberto has a good financial support but he is not interested in school. I don't know what was his reason maybe Roberto wasn't want to go to school or something but even he was a irresponsible he can still know how to handle problems he has an attitude that even he was failed still how to managed it and he know what is the right thing to do like he joined the summer class so that he can passed. Roberto faces many challenges but he never think of giving up so the message of the story or what I've learned in the story is that if your goal is to success even you are naughty and stupid person you can success because a being naughty and stupid is not a hindrance. Because of the sacrifices of Roberto on his own he became a successful proffesional teacher but in first Roberto doesn't like his job but when he knew any understand what is the life and the feeling of being a teacher. I read this story not just because I wanted to learned something of it I read this because it was an inspiring story and it gives entertainment to me it was funny to read especially the stupid things Roberto do in a story💖.

Roberto Ong also known as “Bob Ong” whose real name is unknown,  wrote his first and most popular humor autobiography novel entitled A.B.N.K.K.B.S.N.P.L.A ko?!” or “Aba, Nakakabasa Na Pala Ako?! (Mga Kwentong Chalk Ni Bob Ong)” .The book discusses about the author’s journey as a student and as an educator, to convince the wistfulness of primary, secondary and tertiary school encounters. The story also delineates the Filipino culture. Amusingly, it uncovers the social issues and realities specifically in the field of education and economy.The book discusses about the author’s journey as a student and as an educator, to convince the wistfulness of primary, secondary and tertiary school encounters. Amusingly, it uncovers the social issues and realities specifically in the field of education and economy,since the book is about a student, we were really able to relate on the life accounts of Roberto. There were times where we enjoyed most of our school life and the times where we dread even just entering the school’s entrance gate.The author wanted us to look into a bigger picture of what life truly is and be knowledgeable on what education truly is.

Fangirl talaga ako ng mga local writers like, Marcelo Santos III, Rhadson Mendoza, HaveYouseenThisGirl (Denny), Bob Ong (Roberto Ong), Ed Lapiz, Bo Sanchez :) etc., 

Mahilig kasi akong magbasa at magsulat .. sabi ko nga dati pagnakita ko in person si Bob-Ong yayakapin ko talaga ng Power Hug! Haha. Kakatuwa lang, sobrang stress reliever kasi sila, I mean yung mga posts and stories nila though hindi ko pa talaga nababasa lahat ng publish books na sila may gawa. 

Natuwa naman ako sa thumblr, kasi dito I can freely express my feelings unlike facebook and social media na konting drama sasabihin dramatista ka. haha 

Ito yung parang talaarawan ko ..

Sa 1 year ko na pagwowork di pa ako nakakabili ng sarili kong Laptop or netbook. Gusto ko na nga talaga makabili para matapus ko na ang mga to be continued na sinusulat ko. (Sigh) 

Grabe payat ko na talaga. Madalas kasi akong magpuyat, 3-5 hours nalang ang madalas kong tulog dahil sa dalawa ang work ko.  Kung dati ayaw na ayaw ko matulog, ngayon mahal na mahal ko na :) Parang s’ya na dati ayaw ko, ngayon di ko lang gusto .. mahal ko pa.
