Seven Sentence Sunday
I was tagged by @noratilney. Thank you so much for thinking of me! <3
From a future chapter of my Grishaverse fic Thread of Twilight:
The tip of the arrow must’ve been poisoned. For a brief moment the thought was absurdly funny. She had an Alkemi for a mother, and she would die of poison. But her mother lay motionless a few feet away, along with her father and brother, cut down by Shu swords. The men responsible were dead. There were two more, alive but injured, but it was a bigger, non-human shape that entered her periphery. Her muscles burned as she shifted. The snow leopard stalked closer, its focus on the fallen, lured by the scent of blood.

Describe your perfect home, what kind of building is it, what does it looks like outside and where is it? How many rooms does it have, what kind of rooms are they and what aesthetic? Does it have gardens? Does you house have a name?
Does anyone or anything live with you? Describe your neighbours if you want, and finally, what is one magical item you secretly keep there. 💜🏡
Yes let's daydream.... My perfect magical home... I want an old brick house. I like gothic, victorian, Art nouveau or even older architecture styles. A huge garden full of flowers and vegetables, fruits and animals. I want sooo many trees everywhere. A pond with water lillies. A forest full of bluebells. I want to see birds and deer around all year. I want old and beautiful things. Pretty wallpaper and cute kitchen tiles. Wood floor. So many paintings and collections of little pretty things. Stars on the ceiling of the bedroom. A guest room. Living room with a green velvet Couch. A greenhouse. A country cottagecore kitchen. A mermaid bathroom. An attic like in the beautiful 90s witch movies. Maybe a tower with a secret entrance full of witchy magical things. A wall full of books, movies and music. A stained glass window! A house with a name is such a lovely thought I might call it Bluebellgrove. A magical secret maybe a fae forest around, a dragon sleeping in the cellar guarding my gold, nymphs in the pond, dryads in the trees, ghost in the attic. All supernatural being are welcome. They can be my neighbors and the animals and trees. 🌲🌳🌿🦇🦔🐿️
Imagine a Mix of the addams family, Pippi longstocking's house (plus animals and Gold treasure in the cellar) , the spellman aunt's house (old and New Version plus talking cat), wizard school aesthetic with a bit of thranduil's woodelven palace. A movie set like Tim burton, Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, Terry Gilliam and the All of the movie Sets in Penelope (Christina Ricci movie) Tim walker Photographs.
Dark Cottagecore, dark academia, eclectic, french abandoned castle, english countryside, american 90s witch, Grimm's Fairytale haunted forest, Edmund Dulac, Alfons Mucha, John Bauer illustration style.

The Shining Folk.
You may have heard the term 'Shining Ones' or 'Shining Folk' in relation to fairies.
There are a number of reasons for this description, including the brightness of their appearance at times, as well as being a euphemism for their wisdom, and often their otherworldliness.
In fact, when we look at the folklore, as well as the older mythology, we can make an argument for all of the previous descriptions fitting both physical and non-physical traits.
In a previous post I wrote about the case of a boy who was visited by two beings dressed in white after he had taken bluebells from a fairy fort.
Another unusual, yet more recent interpretation, sees the brightness as being something that manifests because human beings are unable to perceive the true reality of these forms.
Instead, those who see them are culturally creating a shape, symbol, or experience which transcends known archetypes, thus manifesting as something brilliant and hard to define.
This is very much in the realm of the 'fairies as mytho-consciousness creations’, it might be said.
Many writers argue that fairies take the form of what is known by a person's folklore or worldly experiences.
Take this striking Irish example, for instance: The Shining Man.
"There was a man, “wan” night coming on a journey along a lonesome road. As he was coming along a man on a bicycle came "along-side" him. He was going to bid this man good night but he thought he looked very "peculiar." All at once the road was all lit up and the bicycle was all shining and his close (clothes) were all shining. He was so stunned at the sight that he could do nothing but bless himself; and the man disappeared. So he had to keep on praying to the end of his journey."
https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4493804/4422399
Here we have an experience which researchers like Vallee and Keel might frame as a UFO encounter but with the experiencer being unable to match the UFO to anything he previously had known, thus seeing a bicycle instead of a craft.
This same argument has been made for those who see angels, fairies and otherworldly visitors.
The shining aspect is again to the forefront.
Another example is a shining or white lady who turns up in folklore around the world.
In more recent times, these have been categorised as religious experiences, but the function and, indeed, effects, fits with those who would have very different views on what religion even is, as well as a vague fit into our ideas of 'good' and 'evil.'
A lady in white is often documented to have appeared to children in European folklore, although post 10th century she tends to be associated with Marian apparitions and is usually benevolent.
That said, the White Lady who appeared to children at Massabielle in France was said to have gestured to the children to follow her over the edge of a rocky cliff as she floated, orb-like, above them.
Sites such as Fatima and Lourdes were also long associated with fairy women and bright ladies long before the apparitions were Christianised. There is also a strong link to caves, natural springs and trees held sacred in Pagan folklore, which we also find in Irish folklore.
Within Germanic folklore we find the White Lady as Die Weisse Frau, who wanders the countryside searching for her dead children.
Here we have an accepted lineage dating back to German Paganism and Elves but, perhaps, we have an even more important clue as to the identity and distortion of who these shining or white beings originally were.
The Ljósálfar (The Light Elves) were said to be as bright as the sun and to look upon them was almost impossible because of their shining nature.
(Just to add that many scholars see the distinction between light and dark elves as a Christian concept.)
Is this related to the ambiguity in which Irish interpretations of fairies are understood, I wonder?
This might suggest that there is no real separation, only how these beings are encountered.
Jacob Grimm wrote in his work, Teutonic Mythology, "The enchantment under which they suffer may be a symbol of the ban laid by Christianity on the divinities of the older faith."
This is important because the Dutch version of these beings are 'Wise Women' as opposed to 'White Ladies', which is attributed to a mistranslation of ‘wit’ in the folkloric record.
This would also correspond and support the idea put forward by some scholars that it was the Christian demonisation of these beings which created the evil nature of their later incarnations and which repressed their Goddess-like original nature.
Another example of shining folk literally burning brightly is recorded by Wentz in his work The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries.
Wentz describes how a doctor and a companion were riding home from Limerick one night.
As they approached Listowel the doctor writes that he witnessed what he thought was the light of a house about a half mile ahead of him. On approach, though, the light began to behave in a very mysterious manner, “Moving up and down, to and fro, diminishing to a spark, then expanding into a yellow, luminous flame.”
As they rode on, the doctor and his companion then saw two further lights behaving in a similarly bizarre fashion.
The doctor tells us that the lights were six feet high and four feet wide and within each one was, “…a radiant being having human form.”
The two lights then glided towards each other until they touched and the beings inside were able to walk between each light as if it was one individual orb.
Whatever the doctor was thinking, he was able to describe what he witnessed in further detail. He tells us that, “The beings bodies were formed of a pure dazzling radiance, white like the radiance of the sun, and much brighter than the yellow light or aura surrounding them.”
Within Irish folklore, though, this sighting is nothing unusual at all.
It contains all of the customary and traditional motifs of meetings with the good people.
In fact, the detail of the doctor’s description ties the encounter to countless others throughout the entire island.
What is perhaps curious, or telling, depending upon how you see ‘fairies’, is the doctor calling these beings 'spirits.'
This may be, perhaps, an unconscious referral to the belief that in many cases the fairies were both the dead and another type of spirit, or it may be that there was more of an acceptance of this crossover than there sometimes is today.
Whatever the answer, this encounter is certainly one of more interesting and well described cases in the Irish folklore archives where a description of 'shining folk' clearly fits.
In many Irish fairy encounters we can notice a similar description. Sometimes it is an entire fairy mound itself which is seen to light up and spin, and at other times a parade of lights are seen to emanate from the rath or mound and take off across the sky. This aspect has been documented at the rath situated near Keadeen, Co. Wicklow and is recorded in the archives at Duchas.ie as well as being included in a previous post on this page.
In this further example, the lights seem to foretell of a death.
"One night about three years ago the Hartnetts who lived in Gardenfield were going to the fair in Drom and they saw a bright light shining over near Mrs. Dowling's house. They said to themselves that it was very early Mrs. Dowling was up. Mrs. Dowling saw the same light that night moving up around Harnett's house then it came down and it went into the fort and disappeared. That happened before Mr. Harnett's death."
https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4921974/4914569/4938134
Finally, this account recorded in 1926 is also interesting. The writer tells us “I was learning to speak Irish at the time. A gang of us would be sent over beyond Lough Gara every week to be taught by the master there.
Some of us would go on bicycles and would often cycle home in the dark.
We were nervous when we’d cycle by the lake as we would often see three lights skimming across the water. Sometimes the lights would appear in the trees at the lake edge and other times they would submerge beneath the water.
Our parents put the lights down to the work of God.
‘Don’t worry about them, they’re only lost souls trying to get into heaven. They’re no harm.’ "
So, as you can see, although the description of fairies as the 'shining ones' or 'shining folk' can definitely have allusions to wisdom, secrets, and inner transcendence, there is plenty of scope to also include this as a literal physical description.
How we interpret that further is open to a wide variety of opinions, I feel.
(C.) David Halpin.

I.O.U., Part 2
Pairing: Blue Leona / Qrow Branwen
Length: 1681 words
Summary: Qrow's had a run-in with an old friend, but maybe things aren't as sweet as he thought they'd be. Just his luck.
--------------------
"So what's her name?!"
"She's–"
"How do you guys know each other?!"
"We–"
"Have you guys been dating long?!"
"What? We're n–"
"Ooh, what's she like? Is she a Huntress too?!"
"Guys..."
"Are you gonna see her again?!"
Qrow let out a low groan, tipping his head back against the couch as Ruby and Nora were a whirlwind around him with a billion and one questions. The moment he'd gotten back to the house, Ruby had come back mere minutes after him – apparently, she had seen him escorting his friend back to the inn, and question after question began to arise in her hyperactive little mind. Nora, on the other hand, while far more emotionally aware, was just as if not more excited, the two of them making a pink and red whirlwind around him while their teammates futilely attempted to get them to ease up.
"Listen, she's an old friend of mine, we ran into each other and went for a drink to catch up."
"I didn't know you had friends."
Ruby and Nora stopped their babbling the moment Ren suddenly spoke up, both Qrow and the two girls looking over at him – Ruby and Nora looking quite surprised, and Qrow just looking downright annoyed.
"...thanks for the vote of confidence, kid."
That was all that broke the silence before Ruby and Nora burst out in fits of boisterous laughter, the two girls practically falling over each other laughing. Qrow sighed and stood up, carefully stepping around them, his hands shoved into his pockets. Ren simply stood there, looking around in vague confusion.
"...what did I say-?"
---
Two days had passed since that evening, and Qrow never got the opportunity to see Blue again, much to the disappointment of the others. But in the privacy of the house's balcony, he wasn't expecting to receive a message on his scroll that evening unless it was something deeply important.
So when he saw it was from Blue, it took precedence.
"Hey Q, sorry to ask but I could use a bit of help out here on my mission. I've found the sphinx, but there's a whole nest of manticores surrounding it and I'm having a hard time cutting a path through. I could use some backup. I'll owe you two by this."
Before he had a chance to respond, he received another message – a location ping. She was a ways outside Mistral...
...but...
"Guys, I'm headed out," Qrow announced as he strode through the living room, and the first thing the others noticed upon his announcement was Harbinger on his back. They looked at each other for a moment, before Ruby spoke up.
"Um- maybe one of us should-"
"You all stay here. This is personal business, alright?" Qrow quickly shot back before there was any attempt at accompaniment, much to the concern of the others in the group, before he was out the door.
---
If there was anything Blue knew she loved, it was fighting Grimm. As she danced about the battlefield, twirling Dandelion around her like the wheel of death it was and cutting down another manticore, she knew that she could just about do this all day, were it not for the fact that she was trying to get past them. And that there were a few more than she had anticipated...
Another one fell, and she stood up in triumph, and she compressed Dandelion into its cleaver mode and looked around. A few more were circling the area, and she lowered into a fighting position, scanning the area. But that focus was broken when, in a sudden shock, she heard a roar from behind her and her eyes went wide as she whipped around to see another manticore pouncing at her to attack.
Her aura lit up, gleaming blue as she quickly began to activate her semblance–
But that was cut off when the beast was slammed to the side, her eyes wide as her aura's light died down. All there was to indicate what had happened was a single black feather fluttering down from who-knows-where, as Qrow stood up from the manticore he had all but piledrived with his sword, watching it fade away into blackened cinders.
"You're late!"
"Nice to see you too, bluebell!"
Blue dashed up to him, Dandelion held loose at her side, and she looked around at the remaining Grimm with a tense expression. "The sphinx is farther ahead, but the manticores have been keeping me from getting to it... more are coming, I need all the help I can get. Glad you're here now, though..."
Qrow faltered for a moment, but only just, as he picked up his sword and jerked it downwards, the weapon fully extending into its scythe mode. He gave her a wry smile, taking a quick step back as he looked around, and then back to her.
"I go left, you go right?"
"You got it. I owe you one for this!"
Then they were off, the two of them leaping into the fray, hacking and slashing at the surrounding manticores with incredible precision – Blue practically danced, unfolding Dandelion back to its full ring mode, slotting it around her body and all but using herself as a sawblade, striking down another beast with incredible precision. Qrow, meanwhile, was a force to be reckoned with, swapping Harbinger between modes and firing off shotgun blasts to put distance between him and his target, watching another crumble to ash upon defeat. There was one quick glance over his shoulder at Blue, and there was the smallest hint of a smile at her – but in a split second, his heart dropped to the ground as he saw another manticore emerge from the surrounding woods, just within her blind spot, and make for a lunge as she turned to smile back at him.
"BLUE, BEHIND YOU-!!"
That was the only thing he could do, even as he moved to sprint towards her, sword drawn, and he watched as its scorpion tail was poised to pierce into her as she whipped around to face it just before it struck...
...
...then they were off, the two of them leaping into the fray, hacking and slashing at the surrounding manticores with incredible precision.
Blue let out a breath of relief – that was way too close, even for her. Thank the gods Qrow was there to warn her, otherwise she may not have been able to Reroll in time.
The battle proceeded again as normal, the two of them slaying manticores on either side, but this time, she didn't falter. The moment she'd downed the last on her side, her eyes trained to that spot in the woods she'd missed before, and she watched as the third stepped out from the shadows, locking eyes with it as it stalked around the clearing. She could hear Qrow finishing his fight, but she wouldn't take her eyes off of this thing.
Soon enough, he had strode up to her side, sword drawn and ready to strike. "...well, bluebell, been a while since I've seen you in a fight. Whaddoya say we pull that... what'd you call it, combo move?"
"Qrow, you dunno how long I've wanted to try that again."
The two Huntsmen just grinned at each other, before they both dashed in separate directions, in a wide arc around the manticore. It looked between them, briefly unsure of where to go – and that was all the moment's hesitation they needed before they both suddenly dashed towards the center, readying to meet in the middle. True to what they'd predicted, the manticore went airborne, and the two leapt up from where they'd been left at ground level. Qrow landed solidly on the beast's back, and in one swift hook of his scythe, managed to lop off one of the manticore's wings. The beast roared with a fury like no other as it immediately plummeted, and Qrow leapt up again, using it as a launchpad – and from where Blue was still airborne, he grabbed her by the hand, and with a well-placed fling, sent her – and by extension, her chakram – whirling down like a sawblade right at the grounded beast.
She struck true, her blade cleaving it in two straight down the middle as she landed, and the Huntress stood up from the ashes it faded into as she folded Dandelion into its cleaver mode and hooked it back to her waist, walking over to a now-grounded Qrow with a bright smile. "Qrow, seriously, thank you. I was in a hell of a bind here, you really saved my skin... I owe–"
Qrow held up a hand to stop her, giving her the slightest of smiles. "This one's on me, bluebell. You don't owe me a thing for this, okay? Just doing my job as a Huntsman, and helping out a friend."
"But... I still owe you a–"
"We can talk about who owes what later, okay? There's still work to be done, no time for idling now," he pointed out as he unsheathed Harbinger from his back and looked around, "And... good job on eyeing your blind spot. You just get better and better every time I see ya fight, don't ya?"
Blue felt terrible for lying – but she couldn't just tell him she'd been warned beforehand. There was no way he would take that well – no one ever did. So she simply smiled and shrugged, just like always, and pointed to her tattoo. "What can I say? Good luck charm. C'mon, the sphinx should be this way..."
"Good luck charm," Qrow thought somewhat bitterly, walking alongside her as they went further into the woods, "Bull. There's no way in hell a spot of ink can cancel this out... but..."
He glanced over at her, watching her walk, the way she moved, and a question that always seemed to itch the back of his mind had begun to crawl its way to the forefront again.
"...I don't even know what her semblance is... so... hell, who knows..."

bluebell and violet for the meme. only fun questions allowed.
bluebell : does your muse learn from their past , or are they prone to repeating the same mistakes ?
Making mistakes? Is that something other people do?
I dunno, if he’s made any major mistakes in the past, he either doesn’t seem to care, or maybe doesn’t view them as mistakes. Which one is worse...?
violet : how does your muse respond to betrayal ?
OH this is a fun one because it actually does potentially happen in canon. You get to choose whether to help his bestie betray him or not. :)
Basically, you get to pick if you want to banish the Troupe from Hallownest. And it’s extra heartbreaking because Brumm is betraying Grimm because he thinks he’s doing something that will ultimately help him. Except it doesn’t, but he doesn’t know that because Grimm never told him the truth.
Brumm just sees—okay there’s some very ominous deity of nightmare that is forcing my friend to die over and over and over. My friend must be in pain and it hurts to watch him have to do this for eternity. If I banish us from here, then he can’t complete the ritual and doesn’t have to die again.
But he doesn’t know that if Grimm can’t get a new body then when he dies he’ll end up back trapped in the nightmare realm, which is probably his biggest fear and he absolutely does not want that to happen.
...anyway the actual question: he’d be super pissed off. And Grimm that angry is pretty scary. He won’t want anything to do with you anymore if it’s major. Depending on if it got someone he cares about hurt or got in the way of his plans, he might beat the hell out of the offender. Of course, if you betrayed him because you cared about him that much and thought you were doing a good thing for him, he’ll just be heartbroken and unable to be mad :’)
#snowsacrifice#; scarlet compact {meme}#; illumination {ask}#; nightmare's truth {about}#brumm and grimm make me sad#also brumm says that betraying grimm is painful#he likes grimm that much.

Tell us about your pets! Your livestock! Your babies!
Grimm: Oh I love talking about my babies!! They’re all so amazing and friendly. Okay okay, so first my pets! Smudge is my cat she kinda just wandered into the house one day and never left, I love her so much. She’s very soft and she just loves to catch the fish from the pond. Then there’s Bud, he’s a big oaf. He likes to just lay on me or at the foot of my bed when its time to go to bed, and when I’m doing farm work he keeps the chickens from stealing my seeds hehe.
My chickens are all amazing it’s hard to pick a favorite but by far my prettiest gals would have to be Bluebell. Shane honestly is amazing she’s so beautiful and friendly! She kinda adopted lil Mo. I don’t know how Mo showed up in the coop, but she’s sweet. A little grumpy but I love her punk style.
I just adopted another cow recently, she’s a little nervous so I’m making sure to spend time with her every day so she knows she’s safe. I think I’m gonna name her Cookie.
Last but not least we have my one sheep! His name is Gustav he’s sassy but he’s a sucker for ear scritches! I hope one day I can get some pigs and bunnies but for now I love all my animals!

12 dancing flowers- what an unusual title!!! Do you have a snippet?? ❤️❤️❤️
Okay so originally “12 Dancing Flowers” was supposed to be @petals-to-fish‘s birthday present instead of “Reputation” (I’ve been working on chapter two over the last few days and keep deleting and rewriting) but Taylor Swift called to me at the time so we got “Reputation” instead.
So the title is a small twist on my favorite Brothers Grimm fairytale called “The Twelve Dancing Princess,” which is about a king whose daughters sneak out at night and wear out the soles of their shoes and causes him to wonder where they go. He makes an announcement that whoever found out where they went would get to marry the one he liked best but if they failed they were killed. Thus, the search begins.
There once lived an Irish King named Eoghan who had twelve beautiful daughters all with flower-based names. At night, when it was time for bed, the door to their room would be shut and locked from the outside; every morning the girls’ shoes were found with mud on the soles. No one knew where the princesses had gone or how it had happened but the king was a very determined one and made it his mission to find out their secret.
After much thought, the king made an announcement to the kingdom that if there were a man (the king wasn’t a progressive one) who could uncover the princesses’ secret, then he would allow for the victor to marry the one he deemed best and be made king upon Eoghan’s death. However, if they failed after seven days and seven nights, they would be exiled.
Thank you for the ask!
(Also here are the names of the princesses in my version of it: Lily, Poppy, Calla, Petunia, Iris, Acacia, Bluebell, Cassia, Fleur, Myrtle, Hyacinth, and Petals.

Word Search Tag Game
I was tagged forever ago by @darthnell. Thank you so much for the tag!
Rules: Something along the lines of "find the four assigned words in your WIP(s), post the relevant snippet, and assign new words to those you tag."
My words are growl, weave, bone and leaf.
From my TVD fanfic From the Sidelines:
"He feels you're a threat to him," Claire said. Cicero growled softly.
From the latest draft of my LotR fanfic Edged in Silver:
As the open tent-flaps were drawn closed when the grand pavilion filled with people, Idrin took her place on the bench beside her brothers and watched serving-maids weave their way between the long trestle tables, bearing trays of meat pies, eels fried in lemongrass, salads of rocket and leaf-chicory and pine-nuts, fresh bread-buns, spiced wine and ale.
Again from From the Sidelines:
Claire moved toward the bar, watching. His words made her intrigue give way to a frown. What bone did he have to pick with Ric?
From my Grishaverse fanfic Thread of Twilight:
She clasped her hands together to stop them from moving. A cluster of fallen leaves by her feet slid towards the base of the nearest tree.
