Parent trap au
Peter has a semi-identical twin brother named Pierce. They have the same face but Peter has freckles and Pierce doesn't. Pierce also has dirty blond hair and Peter had chestnut brown hair. They both however have the same hazel doe eyes that held so much hope and innocence.
So they weren't perfect mirror twins but they were brothers and while Pierce was the bolder older brother he was also the dependent one. He was lost without Peter's calming presence. Peter was on the other hand lived on his twins shadow, he had no interest in changing that either.
Unfortunately when Pierce and his parents where driving to the air port there was a accident. Each of them where presumed dead and Peter he wasn't with them. The four year old was staying with his aunt and uncle because he caught the flu and couldn't go on the trip with his family.
Ironically, the family was going to cancel the trip and turn back instead because they couldn't really leave their son alone.
Their car was hit due to an officer redirecting traffic when they where making a turn around the corner. The result was not only both cars crashing but a third rear ending the first killing the Parkers on impact. The driver sandwiched in between bother cars was none other then Doctor Stephen Strange who later watched half conscious as paramedics pryed open a back door and pulled a bleeding child from the back seat.
I was impossible for the Doctor to forget the that night. He could only see the blood soaked boy being wrapped up carried off to one of the ambulances before they retrieved the mangled corpses of his family. Stephen did even know if the kid lived.
Surgery after surgery did nothing for the hotshot doctor. He had to find alternative practices in medicine. You know how that part of the story goes but what you don't know is that Stephen returned to the hospital to see what happened to the family he destroyed. He was thankful that the boy had actually survived but was shocked to find out that the boy was sent to foster care because they couldn't find a next of kin. The boy couldn't tell them either since they boy was not only mute but had amnesia. The accident had damaged the kid's brain quite a bit and while physically the boy can speak his brain can't connect the words to his mouth.
Nothing about the kid's parents could be found either. The record on them had been stripped clean, they didn't exist anymore.
So the nameless, mute, amnesiac child was staying at the hospital until they found a home for him after recovery.
The child was later adopted a few months later, by Stephen. The boy was renamed Sterling Strange. It meant valuable and pure in its modern form but its old English origins meant 'Little Star'.(Stephen read through twenty baby name books before finding the perfect match)
Stephen raised Sterling in the sanctum and was determined to teach him how to speak again and how to use ASL. Sign language was challenging since using his hands was hard for the warlock but he has Wong around to help.
Sterling knew about what happened to his family but never blamed Stephen for it. He loved his wizard dad and wouldn't change it for the world.
In New York a similar story was told as a Peter had adjusted to a life with out his parents and brother. On the anniversary of the accident his aunt and uncle cheered him up with tickets to the Stark expo. But like curse or a blessing it was attacked. Iron man himself had saved Peter's life and shielded him from the blasts. After it was all over Mr. Stark help him find his aunt and uncle.
Later that year there when financial troubles and they were faced with a hard decision. Peter was technically a foster child in the eyes of the state, mostly because they wanted him to have parents again and not just a aunt and uncle. This way May and Ben could also have a say in who Peter ended up with. They didn't want to lose their other nefew to a terrible family. Unfortunately they had to consider sending Peter to live in a different foster home for a bit until everything was sorted.
Peter was more then a little scared, he didn't want to be alone. So, in one of his weekly letters he sent to his hero Tony Stark he talked about what was wrong.
Tony unlike what you'd expect actually did read the letters. They were usually about what Lego sets the kid built or how good he did in class that day. The inventor kept the letters all over the house from his office desk to his work bench. Something about reading them always gave him the energy to go the extra mile. Heck, he even had a few of Peter's tests hung on his fridge.
So, the billionaire got involved. After many talks with the Parkers he knew they would never take money from him but they did agree to something else.
Soon enough Peter Parker became Peter Stark and May and Ben went back to working full time.
Tony learned that is wasn't going to be easy taking care of Peter.
The night of the accident Peter fever shot up quickly in his sleep. It caused a lot of damage to his respiratory system, it left Peter with bad asthma as well has a weakened immune system. There are some truly frightening times when Peter catches a cold and has a seizure. Thankfully Tony can afford the medical treatments and medications Peter needed to increase his immune response.
It was worst it of course Peter was the light of his life and he spoiled the kid as much as possible. He was a better father then his own as he watched star wars and help build robots with his son.
But then came that fateful day when the two boy where dropped off at camp. It was a camp for young upperclass geniuses. For children born and bred for greatness.
Tony cheated Peter's bag over and over again to make sure he had his inhaler. Peter watched as a bunch of kids stared as them. He hoped that no one at the camp treated him differently because of his last name. He hated being treated like some kind of celebrity by people his age because they always try to take advantage of him or talk behind his back.
On the other side of the drop off point Sterling and his father went over the rules. No magic, no fighting, no talking about magic, and play nice with the other kids. Sterling knew almost immediately that he was very different from the other kids. His robes where the first sign. In Kamar-Taj they were normal but he knew the outside world was a very different place. Stephen assured Sterling would be fine, as far as anyone could tell he was one of the foreign students from Nepal.
It was during a chess competition between cabins when the boys met. They where evenly matched the entire game until Sterling got bored and switched the rook and the bishop when no one was looking. Peter immediately called him out causing an argument.
This resulted into an all-out war between the boys. Peter would make fun of the blond's posh British accent when he was supposedly from india. Sterling believed Peter was a spoiled rich kid that couldn't take a joke.
Eventually the boys where forced to stay in a cabin together until they got along after a few too many pranks.
The boy eventually found out more and more about each other's pasts. Like that they were both adopted, they had the same birthday, and that both their parents died in a car crash. Peter admitted that he had a twin brother who died as well.
When Sterling signed/asked what he was like Peter shifted uncomfortably before saying his brother had blond hair and freckles like Sterling.
Sterling admitted that he lost his memory after the accident.
Peter thought for a moment before saying that his brother had a star shaped birth mark on the back of his neck. And upon inspection Sterling had it. Proof his bother was alive.
Sterling didn't know what to think. He wanted to know where he came from but he didn't know how to begin.
The boys came up with an admittedly stupid idea but two bottles of hair dye and a haircut later there they were.
The newly reunited twins wanted to see the other's life and this was their chance.
Sterling helped his brother learn sign language as well as how to navigate the sanctum. He also needed to tell Peter about magic and how to start using it. Thankfully, Sterling didn't know too much yet. Peter also needed to know how to speak in a British accent.
Peter laughed everytime he had to say telly instead of tv. It was also hilarious to see Sterling try to pronounce penguin.
On the other hand Peter had to teach his brother about New York and how to get around happy. He needed to make sure Rodney didn't catch on, he had the eyes of a hawk. Also Sterling needed to learn Italian since it was something he spoke exclusively with his dad and aunt when they where alone.
At the end of camp the boys had ended swapped places as they met their 'dads'.
For weeks they spent time getting to know their other parents.
Peter was in awe of the pure beauty of the sanctum and exploring the temples. Learning about relics and reading the ancient books in the library was insanely fascinating.
Sterling stared out at the city from the penthouse home. Looking down at the all the people going about their day was mesmerizeing. The city was alive and constantly moving and changing. Kamar-Taj seemed almost small in comparison.
Getting to know the fathers they had never met was another thing entirely.
Stephen worked tirelessly to help his son speak and when Peter who had no difficulty doing so did, the wizard had so much joy in his eyes.
The same went for Sterling as he had no trouble when it came to being active and had no need for an inhaler. Tony had lost hope of ever seeing his son run and play like a normal child but this was unbelievable.
Both boys felt guilty for what they where doing. They where tricking the people they cared about most and giving false hope to their guardians.
So they had to reveal themselves, the lies had to stop somewhere.
Stephen broke down when he heard the truth. He had no idea Sterling had a brother. He had not only orphaned two boys but he took one of them away. He should have tried harder to find his family. He shouldn't have separated them. He apologized over and over again as the boy hugged him. Peter didn't care what happened, he was just glad his brother had someone so caring in his life even if he wasn't in it.
"I should have help you too. He needed you more." Stephen whispered as he ran has hand through the boy's fake blond hair.
Tony had to hold back tears as he realized what this meant. He would listen to Peter's endless stories about his brother on nights he couldn't sleep or had nightmares about that night. Sometimes he really wished he could have just adopted both boys or at least have met Pierce. That way Peter could at have had someone else to grieve like he did. But to have that brother stand right in front of him m, it was a miracle. To know that Peter wasn't alone, it made things so much lighter.
"You look just like him. It's not a bad thing but I think I prefer your natural look." Tony said tears running down his face as he swiped the pale makeup off Sterling's nose so reveal a cluster of freckles underneath.
There came the time when both families had to switch their twins back but as soon as they met again the boy refused to be separated. They loved their fathers but they where brothers and they weren't going anywhere without the other.
The fathers had their hands tied so they had to work out a system.
At first the twin constantly changed houses but Stephen made a portal that linked the homes so everyone could come and go as they pleased. It resulted in what felt like one large home that didn't exist in a single place. The children got to explore a whole new world and the adults where at ease that they didn't lose theirs sons but gained another.
They co-parented like champs but Tony was still quick to spoil his twins. Stephen was still the fun dad though.
They became a happy family and yes they lived happily ever after.

After a rather enjoyable trip of Chennai of a week, during which I met my maternal grandparents, relatives and friends; it was time for me to return to Mumbai â again by train! Oh, and for my account of my train journey from Mumbai; please refer https://ashwinkumar1989.online/2017/11/22/a-two-night-sojourn-to-chennai-part-1/ and https://ashwinkumar1989.online/2017/11/23/a-two-night-sojourn-to-chennai-part-2/ . This time, I took 11042 MAS CSMT express on Nov 25; which departs from MAS at 12 20 and reaches CSMT at 13 35 (I would get down at Thane) â this would enable me to rest for more than half a day at home before the usual Monday morning blues (heightened after a one-week holiday!) . As always, please refer to the legend at the bottom for all technical terms and station codes (not all, mind you!) . Non-railfans and purist railfans, I warn you in advance that this blog will contain a LOT of loco numbers and other technical stuff! Also everyone, this is so long that I have to split it into 3 PARTS so that it doesnât get boring! đ
After brunch, I left home by 11am and took an Ola auto to reach MAS by 11 30 without much ado. One look at the giant digital display board told me that 11042 was berthed on Platform 9. On PF 6, 22602 SNSI MAS superfast was resting with APU-fitted TNP WDM3As 16084R and 16853R; while on PF 8 a shining LGD WAP4 22322 was resting â according to railfan Jyothish K it had brought in 12696 TVC MAS superfast.
My coach S8 was a very old 1996 old make, but surprisingly had mobile charging sockets in all bays and even bio-toilets at one end! :O It was 5th from the loco â AJJ WAP1 22011, and I had a trackside window seat LB đ .
From PF 3, 22637 MAS MAQ West Coast express departed at 12 05. On PF 8, 12608 SBC MAS Lalbagh express arrived at 12 19 (4 mins late) behind RPM WAP7 30332. One of its 2 AC Chair Cars was a 2015 make, and it had 3 Deen Dayalu coaches (1 2017 made). We departed at 12 25 (5 mins late) after sounding 2 LT horns. For a while, there was parallel action with the rake of 22602 which was being shunted â its front SLR had broken shutters despite being 2015 made đŚ . Near BBQ Coaching Depot, I saw a 20 lever Cabin; and a Train Care Centre in the distant right. On a siding was TNP WDM2 16885 in GOC livery (maybe to be transferred to GOC?). As always, the BBQ ETS was home to a variety of locos â RPM WAP7s 30367 and 30413, ED WAP7 30573 (First time I had ever seen an ED P7! ), LGD WAP4s 22663 and 22515; and AJJ WAP1 22021. Not a single ED/RPM WAP4 though â times have indeed changed! :O
There was a PSR of 30 kmph before BBQ. I also saw Don Bosco Higher Secondary school before VPY. There was a TSR of 30 kmph before Villivakkam â there I saw a road with name âLoco Scheme Ist Streetâ! :O I guess it is a railway colony! Near Korattur there was a lake full of moss. By now we were galloping and the continuous honking (the two LT horns and a rarely used HT whine) was a treat to the ears, accompanied by mild flat wheel sounds coming from the rear of the coach :P. There was another dirty moss-filled lake near Ambattur. As we crawled through Avadi, I could see the Tube Products of India factory in the right. I also saw the Madras College of Pharmacy and 2 Kalyana Mandapams before a WAG9 hauled BOXN rake crossed us (a cue to the freight action to follow). After the line to PTMS branched off to the distant right, a Tigerface WAG7 hauled express crossed us â probably 16054 TPTY MAS express.
The surroundings became more rural from hereon. I observed Jaya College and Vivekananda Vidyalaya, and a Tigerface WAG7 hauled BOXN freight at Veppampattu. There was a lot of stagnant dirty water for a while, and quite a few temples before the crawl through Tiruvallur. There was a container freight hauled by GMO WAG9H 31822 standing in the opposite direction. Then an express crossed on the left before the Egattur forests. There were a lot of sheep, goats, cows and calves grazing. There was a stagnant patch of water in the dry Kushasthalai river. My ticket was then checked â the TTE asked only for the ID proof â I showed him my PAN Card, but he told me that itâs a photocopy and asked me to keep Aadhaar card for safety! AaahâŚjust underlines the obsession of our government with Aadhaar for anything and everything! Anyway, I have the original Driving License as well just in case!
There was a BCNA rake led by Ajni WAG9 31259 standing at Tiruvalangadu. We crawled and changed tracks â now we were on the leftmost track! On the right most track there was a TSR of 100 kmph! I then saw a stagnant pond and a long line of palm trees, as well as a Splendor bike parked in the midst of this wilderness before Mosur! After Puliyamangalam, 12610 SBC MAS Intercity exp crossed us with RPM WAP7 30427. Then there was again a TSR of 100 kmph on the right most track! :O Then there was a lake before a PSR of 15 kmph (which would continue till we took the line to RU from AJJ). In the AJJ yard, there was a Car Carrier AutoLinx rake and a BCNA freight with LGD WAG9 31556. An EMU departed towards MAS on the distant right as we pulled into the station (PF 3) at 13 44, 22 mins late. 3 families got in our coach. There was an EMU waiting on PF 4, ready for departure towards MAS. 22638 MAQ MAS West Coast express arrived on PF 2 as we departed after a two-minute halt.
An LHB rake crossed us on the left (12551 YPR KYQ AC superfast ?)while we changed tracks to move to the RU line. There were people hanging from the doors of our front 2 coaches! :O On the line to RU, there was a TSR of 80 kmph for passengers and 50 kmph for goods. Soon there was a teaser of the scenery to follow later in this section, in the form of a forest, corn fields, palm trees and irrigated fields before we passed the ghost station of Ichiputtur. Then there was a stagnant pond and some coconut trees before an express crossed with a P1 â probably our counterpart 11041 CSMT MAS express. Then there was a small pond with water lilies and a lot of houses and an LC before we pulled into Tiruttani, where a few people got down and a family got in. 12245 HWH YPR Duronto (apparently running about 3 hours late) passed the station without stopping, hauled by TATA WAP7 30549.
There was a small river called Nandhi, before a highway gave us company on the right. Then came the scenic Ponpadi station (last station in TN on this route) which was full of trees, following which there was that famous 90 degrees curve.
On the DOWN line, there was a TSR of 50 kmph for passengers and 30 kmph for goods before Venkatanarasimharajuvaripeta â the station with the record for having the longest name in IR (or has it been broken?), and the first station in A.P in this route. There was a Grand World Water Park (a really scenic location for a water park, I must say! đ ) . Then there were some stagnant water patches and the dry Nagari river. There was a tractor on a thin road next to the DOWN line bridge! Now the DOWN line was really down â as it was below us! đ
Then there was a beautiful lake near Ekambarakuppam, in which there was a grass island. I saw cows and calves grazing. There was also a uniquely shaped mountain peak christened âDadar expressâ by railfans â since it resembles a train being pulled by a diesel loco â 12163/64 MS-DR superfast (earlier 11063/64 MAS-DR express) has always been associated with diesels; in fact, for a brief period from 2003 to 2006 it was hauled by a diesel loco (usually a GTL WDM2) between Pune and MAS!
Check this video of us blasting through the scenery â rock cuttings, greenery, trees and mountains; skipping Vepagunta on the way â all the way our P1 honking melodiously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M6P4-2EBOc&t=9s . Then there was the lovely sight of boys playing hockey at a school, while a lot of girls and boys watched. This school was, again; in a very scenic setting â with a beautiful lake nearby and a lot of coconut trees. A lot of buildings signalled the arrival of Puttur, where some people got down. We overtook a freight led by twin WAG7s (leading â ED 27481). The separation between the DOWN and UP tracks made for some good photography! đ
There was another beautiful lake and some spectacular scenery (yet again!) in the form of forests and surrounded by a line of coconut trees and of course the Sapthagiri Hills in the distant right!
There was a TSR of 80 kmph before Pudi, where we overtook a TNP ALCO with a few freight bogies. There was the dry Swarnamukhi river, before we crossed an almost 1 hour late running 66048 TPTY MAS Fast MEMU. At RU yard, there was an LGD WAP4 22717 coupled to a now rare Rajdhani liveried AJJ WAP1 22058. There were Humsafar coaches (have seen them here since March end this year!), few BCNA rakes, an accident relief train as well as a WDP4D in the distant right; as we pulled into the station (PF 1) at 14 57, 7 mins late. Near us lay GTL WDM3D 11118 with 2 Accident Relief Medical Vans. On PF 5, 22603 KGP VM superfast pulled in behind RPM WAP4 22872. On the distant right, a BCNA rake led by BZA WAG7 28464 (in WAP4 shell) left (in our direction) after continuous LT horn blowing. On PF3, 16381 CSMT CAPE Jayanthi Janata express arrived behind ED WAP4 22526.
I had an Egg Biryani for lunch (which was strictly ok) as we left at 15 10. I spotted twin ED WAG7 twins 27653 and 27497 in the distant right. I will be continuing my account in Part 2. Hope you have enjoyed so far!

Door Market: Current Trends, Opportunities and Challenges
Doors have been widely popular as it is one of the most commonly used structures in construction. They control the atmosphere of a place by enclosing the air drafts as well as increasing the visual appeal of the architecture. Doors can be classified based on their mechanism such as high speed doors, rotating doors and hinged doors. In addition, doors can be classified based on their functionality as safety door, trap door and blast proof doors. Raw materials such as plastic, metal and wood are used in manufacturing of doors.Â
PDF Brochure For Future Advancements: https://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/sample/sample.php?flag=B&rep_id=1774
Asia Pacific represented the largest market in the door industry, followed by North America and Europe. Certain countries in Asia Pacific such as China, India and Indonesia are expected to gain a substantial amount of share in the market. Their low per capita income demand level is expected to give the potential for a strong market rise as income continues to grow in these countries. Magna International Inc, Inteva Products LLC, Fauresia SA, KONE PUBLIC LIMITED COMPANY, Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd. are some of the leading companies present in the door market. The global market for doors has been significantly large as doors are implemented in every residential and non-residential structure. Plastic doors are expected to be the fastest growing segment in the door industry, where gains are largely driven by demands from China, India and Brazil. Plastic materials have mostly benefited from their reduced maintenance requirements, low cost and its insulating properties, which are expected to be a huge contributor in the growth of the market.Â

The market is strongly expected to grow due to the rising construction activities across the globe. In addition, the growing demand for doors for safety purposes such as fire and security, implemented in industries due to rising safety regulations is expected to drive the market. Â Growing commercial construction activities in developing regions such as India and China is expected to open the doors for the automatic door industry.

Post card from Kabul.
Dear All,                                                                                                           Dec.21, 2017
Happy and peaceful holidays and warm greetings from a frigid Kabul. AUAF will be closed Dec. 22 to Jan.15, and most of the international faculty and staff will be away during the break. For several reasons, my wife Tahmina and I are spending the holidays here on campus.. We have launched a new master's program in education and law-enforcement so there is much to do. The university continues to enforce what is called embassy level security measures. This means 18 foot high blast walls all around campus, armed national and Nepalese Gorka guards all over the campus 24/7, sniper towers all around campus. scanners, searches, public announcement systems, alarms, K9s, biometrics, thick steel doors, multiple locks, frequent lock-downs and/or no movement, wearing your ID at all times, etc. The Kalashnikof is as familiar to us as the Starbuck coffee cup on a US campus. Access for outsiders is a complicated process. All expats must live on campus, and excepting emergencies, are not allowed to leave the campus and then, only in armored cars with armed guards; and if a woman, with escort cars behind. We must carry tracking devices when off campus. And we have been issued bullet-proof vests and helmets jus in case. We rehears for attacks and disasters. All our daily needs are taken care of on campus-dry- cleaning to vaccination. We live like virtual prisoners and we try to educate under siege. Needless to say some cannot deal with the stress and strain and quit, are evacuated, and/or are very difficult to deal with. I wonder how I look to others?!
Life beyond the blast walls is indeed catastrophic. By all accounts, 2017 has been the worst year for the country since 2001. Here is why/how:
According to UNAMA, in the first nine months of this year, 2640 Afghan civilians (mostly women and children), were killed and 5400 wounded. UNAMA called this catastrophic. 14 Americans, about ten thousand Afghan National Security Forces members have also been killed. And of course countless insurgents have been killed too.
Land mines continue to kill and maim bout 100 Afghans per month.
The armed opposition occupies about half the country. There is active fighting in 22 of the 34 provinces. Any place and anyone seems to be a target. NO place and no one is safe.
The US bombing has been twice the number in 2016-there has been 3000 bombings so far. The US is using F16s, B52s , drones, helicpters etc. 24/7. And it has dropped more than  3000 bombs thus far this year  including ' the mother of all bombs'(an obscene name), last April.
As I type this email, there is an assault under way on a National Directorate of Security office not far from here in Kabul. (That attack lasted 7 hours with casualties on both sides).
With 80 incidents per day, the UN has declared the country at war. The opposition now has access to very sophisticated weapons indicating clear foreign intervention in the war.
The US Institute for Peace and Economics declared Afghanistan as the second worst country after Iraq, in terms of terrorism.
Reporters W/O borders ranked Afgh. as the third worst country for reporters, with 14 reporters killed in 2017.
As a consequence of fighting, there are about one million internally displaced people mostly living in treacherous conditions.
There reportedly 10,000 Daesh/ISIL members all over the country. There are reports of unknown planes and helicopters ferrying armed insurgents around the country; many believe this to be an American project to move the fighting closer to Central Asia and eventually to Russia.
The country produced its largest crop of drugs ever (9000 tons) this year.
Most people here believe that Taliban, Alqaida, Daesh, etc are American-Western-Israeli projects and that the war is managed by the US so to establish a foothold here, undermine Islam, exploit the area's resources, advance its hegemonic influence and deter/undermine China, Russia, Iran and India. Very few, and those with vested interests, buy the 'counterterrorism' argument. And by coincidence, the war has been a god-sent humongous economic bonanza for the usual suspects.
Fifty percent of the population lives in poverty.
Two-third of the girls are out of school (Human Rights Watch). Four million children have no access to school. Half the schools have no buildings. More than 1500 schools are closed due to war; and the armed opposition   controls hundreds of public schools in the country. The education system is substandard, irrelevant, dysfunctional and an academic-intellectual wasteland.
Afghanistan is the fourth worst place in the world for girls. Violence against women is on the increase.
There have been widespread anti-American /Israeli demonstrations in the aftermath of the Trump declaration on Jerusalem; and Pres Ghani partook in the OIC conference on this in InIstanboul.
Following Pres Trumpâs âNew Srategyâ the US/NATO war and occupation have been escalated and intensified with some 18000 troops and special  forces in the country. US troops are now actively involved in combat and air operations including night raids. So their role is more than âadvise, assist and supportâ.
There has been much talk about peace recently, but all we see is war and violence.Â
The US is working on building huge permanent bases in Mazar and Kandahar.
President Trump's 'New' policies have simply led to more violence and war. Thoughtful observers believe that there is no military solution to this calamity; but only a political one.
Afghans paid $2.5 billion in bribes to the kleptocracy; the country continues to be gripped by all sorts of corruption.
The so-called National Unity Government ( J.Kerry's design) lacks any legitimacy and credibility, is in deep crises, and is challenged from /by all sides. Washington's men pres. Ghani (and CEO Abdullah) 'technocrats' and 'fixer' of Failed Nations, are anything but.
E.Prince ( Secretary of Ed's brother) of Blackwater proposes to privatize the US occupation of Afgh. so to access the country's minerals.
The International Criminal Court is to investigate war crimes committed by all sides.
Kabul, the capital still lacks regular electricity, drinking water, garbage collection, transport, a sewer system and/or an elected mayor. The pollution is so thick and bad that right now visibility is probably less than a kilometer.
The country's parliament has been operating for two years beyond its legally elected mandate, and it is unclear if/when the election will take place.
Massive crime and abductions are causing both massive human and capital flight. Investments are down 50%.
Afghan society is fragmented, polarized, divided, conflicted, gangsterised, vulgarized and criminalized.
The gap between a tiny corrupt, predatory, criminal clique and the vast majority is a million miles wide, and getting wider. A vicious and ugly social Darwinism prevails; anything goes, and it is really scary. People are angry, disillusioned, hopeless, helpless, cynical, and desperate. They openly blame the Americans and other foreigners for their misery. Those who can, are leaving the country by any means necessary.
So, this is where we are after 16 years of war, death and destruction, thousands of American lives, countless Afghan lives, one trillion $, and the deformation of a society. We can only imagine the long-run invisible costs both to Afghanistan and the US. Sorry I hope I have not ruined your holiday but, the truth needs to be told, and this tragedy must not be forgotten.
Wishing you a safe, peaceful, and happy holiday.
Regards,
zw

US Generals Want to Extend Our Longest War
By Eric Margolis, August 5, 2017
Media reports claim President Donald Trump let loose on his generals behind closed doors, blasting them royally for their startling failures in Afghanistan, Americaâs longest war.
The president has many faults and is a lousy judge of character. But he was absolutely right to read the riot act to the military brass for daring to ask for a very large troop and budget increase for the stalemated Afghan War that has cost $1 trillion to date.
Of course, the unfortunate generals are not really to blame. They have been forced by the last three presidents to fight a pointless war at the top of the world that lacks any strategy, reason or purpose--and with limited forces. But they canât admit defeat by lightly-armed Muslim tribesmen.
The truth is, simply, that America blundered into the Afghan War under President George W. Bush who needed a target for revenge after the humiliating 9/11 attacks. Instead of blaming Saudi Arabia, a US protectorate which was clearly involved in the attacks, Bush went after remote but strategic Afghanistan and cooked up the Osama bin Laden bogeyman story.
Sixteen years later, the US is still chasing shadows in the Hindu Kush Mountains, rightly known to history as âGraveyard of Empires.â
The US invasion of Afghanistan was based on the unproven claim that anti-communist fighter Osama bin Laden was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. We have yet to see conclusive proof. What we have seen are phony documents and faked videos put out by bin Ladenâs foes, the Afghan communists and their Northern Alliance drug-dealing allies.
As Iâve written in my books on South Asia, the so-called âterrorist training campsâ in Afghanistan were mostly bases for training anti-Indian Kashmiri liberation groups run by Pakistani intelligence. Claims by the right-wing US media that Afghanistan would become a jihadist base if the 9,800 US troops there now withdrew are nonsense. The 9/11 attacks were planned and mounted from Germany, Spain and Florida, not Afghanistan. They could have come from anywhere.
After sixteen years, the US military and its Afghan mercenaries troops have failed to defeat the Afghan Pashtun tribal resistance forces, Taliban. In fact, the Taliban alliance now controls at least half of Afghanistan and keeps US and government forces pinned down. The US installed âpresident,â Ashraf Ghani, barely clings to power.
What keeps the US in control of parts of Afghanistan is the US Air Force and naval air power. US warplanes from Afghanistan, Qatar, and aircraft carriers keep a 24/7 combat air patrol over distant Afghanistan and can reply in minutes to attacks on US or Afghan ground units. No other nation could do this--or afford the immense cost.
Gasoline trucked into Afghanistan over the Khyber Pass from Karachi costs $400 per gallon delivered. The authoritative âAviation Weekâ magazine reports that keeping US warplanes on station over Iraq and Syria costs an astounding $600,000 per mission. Itâs even more over Afghanistan.
But without 24/7 US airpower, US forces in Afghanistan would be soon isolated, then driven out. This is just what happened to the British and Soviets, dooming their efforts to crush the Pashtun, Afghanistanâs largest ethnic group.
Bereft of new ideas, the US keeps repeating its mistakes in Afghanistan: colluding with the worst, most corrupt elements of Afghan society; condoning torture and murder; relying on the big, drug dealing tribal chiefs.
The UN reports that opium (the base for heroin) exports doubled last year. The sputtering Afghan economy runs on opium and hashish.
The United States is now the proud owner of the worldâs leading producer of opium and morphine base. If the drug trade is ever cut off, the government in Kabul and its warlords will collapse. Ironically, when Taliban ruled Afghanistan before 9/11, the drug trade was almost wiped out. But you will never read this in the tame US media.
Now Americaâs imperial generals are asking Trump for 4,000 more troops. A basic law of military science is concentration of force. Penny packets of troops are a foolâs strategy. The main function of US troops in Afghanistan is to protect the strategic Bagram and Kandahar air bases and US installations in Kabul.
Now, hard right Republicans are pushing a daft proposal to contract the Afghan War to a US-paid mercenary army led by an imperial viceroy in Kabul. Shades of Queen Victoria. Break out the pith helmets.
Trump has proposed pressuring Pakistan, India and China to end the war. What an absurd idea. For Pakistan, Afghanistan is its blood brother and strategic hinterland. China plans to turn mineral-rich Afghanistan into a Tibet-style protectorate. India wants to outflank Pakistan by taking over Afghanistan. India and China are in a growing military confrontation in the Himalayas.
Trump had better come up with a better idea. My solution to the 17-year war: emulate the example of the courageous Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev. He pronounced his Afghan War unwinnable, told his angry generals to shut up, and ordered the Red Army out of the war in Afghanistan.

4 Famous Doors From Around the World
Doors are among the things that we use every day without thinking too deeply about. Like many of those things, there is rich art and history to be gained by taking a closer look. Doors Elk Grove Village have been used for millennia, after all. Along the way, people learned how to make doors that are quite good - good enough that we're still discussing them. Here are 4 iconic doors from around the world.
Ishtar Gate
The Ishtar Gate is an ancient wonder built in 575 BC. It was originally ordered by King Nebuchadnezzar II as the eighth gate to Babylon's inner city. The Ishtar Gate was dedicated to the goddess Ishtar, who represents love, war, sex, and fertility. It was originally considered one of the wonders of the world, but has since been replaced by the iconic Lighthouse of Alexandria. The Ishtar Gate is a deep blue hue, with a frame and roof of cedar. It shows an image of Marduk, the dragon god, surrounded by bulls and lions.
Columbus Door
Built in Germany in 1855, the Columbus Door is made of nine panels showing the life of Christopher Columbus from 1487 to 1506. Due to the American Civil War, the door could not be delivered to the United States until 1863. The story of the panels starts with Columbus attempting to convince King Ferdinand and the Council of Salamanca of his planned voyage to India and ends with Columbus dying in bed. Today, the Columbus Doors are used in the U.S. Capitol Building as the entry to Rotunda.
St. Peter's Basilica Holy Door
This sacred door was designed by Michelangelo and Bramante and is located fittingly in St. Peter's Basilica, one of the most devoutly Catholic places on Earth. Specifically, the Holy Door is found in the northern most entrance of the Basilica. Only the Pope can open the door, and only one year out of every 25 (known as Holy Years). The door is symbolic of the passing from this life into the next.
Door Number 10
The Number 10 door is located at 10 Downing Street in the City of Westminster and is the entrance into the British Government's executive branch headquarters. It also happens to be the residence of the Prime Minister of England. The all black door on the building is framed by white pillars on each side and a bowed glass transom. The iconic white number 10 is in the top central part of the door. It has been standing essentially unchanged since 1772, aside from the wood of the door being replaced with a blast proof steel after an IRA mortar attack.
