One of these theories is that by starving yourself over a period of time you will lose any weight you have stored. I am here to tell you that yes, you can lose weight by starving yourself, but not in the way think. In this article I will discuss the issues that can occur when it comes to starving yourself to lose weight.
Have you ever noticed that those that have starved themselves and dramatically lost weight always seem to gain the weight back on after a period of time? The body is a very complex machine that works on its own to preserve your life. By starving yourself short term you can and will lose weight, but for the long term you will end up putting more weight on that what you originally had!
During periods of starvation your body receives the signal that no nutrients or minerals are being taken in, so in turn reacts by eating itself to gain its nutrients to operate efficiently. Now you maybe thinking this is great! Well, you are plainly wrong. You see, the first place the body will gain nutrients from is your muscle tissue, so slowly over a period of time all muscle mass will be lost leaving you with skin that droops with no tone. On top of this, your body will consume fat from your body,but, it will only do so for a very short period of time.
When your body realises that there is nothing else to gain nutrients from then it will hold onto anything you consume to preserve itself. This process whereby the body acts to protect itself leads to any food consumed being stored in fat in the fear that it does not know when it will receive nutrients again. The outcome of all these functions leaves the individual with more fat being stored and less muscle tone than previously.
