Grey or Blue?
The herons that live nearby have always appeared to me to be grey and so I have been calling them grey herons. Yesterday, though, I began to doubt that identification. It seems that they look a lot alike, and so I bow to you, dear reader, to provide me with certainty. There have been two herons that visit the pond near my home until this spring when there was only one. Then, this summer, there…

The Black Crowned Night heron is know to engage in bait fishing; luring or distracting fish by tossing edible or inedible buoyant objects into water within their striking range – a rare example of tool use among birds.. . . #natureisamazing #natureinspired #naturephotography #naturelover #naturegram #naturefacts #instafacts #instaknowledge #birdfacts #didyouknow #didyouknowfacts #birdphotography #birdphotographyindia #birdphotographersofindia #eye_for_nature #eye_spy_birds #nuts_about_birds #biodiversity #conservation #wetlands #rajasthantourism #incredibleindia . . . @birdphotographers_of_india @incredibleindia @tourismgoi @rajasthan_tourism @unbiodiversity (at Keoladeo Ghana National Park Area, Bharatpur) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co06z-wBsvK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In order to digest a fish whole, a bird requires a two-chambered stomach. The first chamber secretes acid, which helps break down bones and scales. The second (gizzard) grinds up pieces of food into much smaller pieces.

A study of the peacock feathers, the scientists saw that the characteristic eyespots of peacocks are held together by microhooks while they wiggle and rattle their tails. This causes the surrounding filaments of the eyespots move along with the other feathers as the eyespot center remains still - eyespots then appear iridescent. . . #didyouknow #didyouknowfacts #didyouknowthat #instabird #instaknowledge #instafacts #birdfacts #naturefacts #natureinfocus #natureinspired #natgeobirds #natgeoindia #natgeo #canonphotography #biodiversity #conservation #nationalbird #delhincr #gurugram #gurgaon #whatsupgurgaon (at Bhondsi: The Historical Village) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqEycZThNjK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Birds have hollow bones, but not for the reason you might think. It’s not to make them lighter, but to help them breathe better. Their lungs extend into their bones, allowing them to get more oxygen for flying.

oh! One of my birdfacts was that bearded vultures use cosmetics but that has already been shared... most of their diet is made up of bones rather than meat, and they try to keep their clay locations secret so they can be The Reddest!
Also horned screamers have claws on their wings along with having those keratin horns. Wacky birds.
And magnificent frigatebirds, along with cutting a sharp and pretty silhouette, have wacky inflatable red neck pouches on the males that they show off to attract mates!
Thank you for these wonderful birdfacts
