First try making a bike bag that fits in the frame. It's made out of boat cover fabric scraps that we get from a local sail maker. Its supposed to be waterproof. All big seams are lap seams because they are more water resistant as well (and also way more stable and pretty from the inside). The zippers are covered up with a fabric strip so that no water can enter that way. All straps are from the strap scrap bag! I like that the bag is partitioned in the middle, that keeps it from bulging to the side too much. There are some mistakes (mostly because I was lazy). The lap seams aren't perfect and the other side of the seam shows through in the middle in some places. The lacing on top is through pieces of straps and I accidentally sewed two of them into the side seams. I'm probably gonna rip that up again and free them, it bunches weirdly on top when I close the lacing right now. Gonna probably do more of these, it's super fun! I was heavily inspired by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USX7pc-3Fac And I used a heavy-duty sewing machine that's available in our local open sewing workshop.

this bike came into the shop yesterday as a donation. the lady who brought it in said it was her late husbands bike that he rode from minnesota to alaska then to california (over 6000 miles) in the 80's.
a trip i can barely fathom now with the tech and gear we have now, yet he did it with homemade panniers and no gps!! what an amazing piece of local bicycling history.
the plan is to restore it while keeping as many original parts as we can and preserving it so the original owner can live on through it.

Traveling with Your Bike: Bag, Case, or Box, Which is Better?
Image By Domonabike from Alamy Stock Photo So, you’ve found a place you want to travel for a cycling vacation, event, or race. Life is what happens...
John Lennon got it right. For better or worse.
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” John Lennon from the song, Give Peace a Chance I love this quote by John Lennon.  I’ve always mused on it from the perspective of folks (including myself) who are too busy keeping up with “rat race” related concerns that they miss the beauty that is right in front of them. Until yesterday. As I was running around the house…
