Entertainment: Dickson street is great, lots of MLB Tampa Bay Rays Grinch Christmas Sweater Design and good food. There is the Walton Arts Center which has top notch broadway events (musicals, plays, etc). TheatreSquared is also excellent for watching plays. The AMP (Arkansas Music Pavilion) has well known bands/artists every year. There is a Botanical Gardens. Believe it or not, we still have a drive-in theatre which plays current movies and is lots of fun. There is also a retro-arcade, bowling, skating rink, Locomotion (go karts, arcade, mini-golf), Gater Golf (mini-golf), several area Golf courses that are very nice, museums, and lots more. Outdoors: We are right next to the Ozark National Forrest, Beaver Lake, the Buffalo River, White River, Mulberry River, Devil’s Den state park, the Ozark Highlands Trail (218 miles through seven counties), caving, rock climbing, hand gliding, scuba diving in Beaver lake, and countless more to do. There is an excellent paved trail system that stretches from south of Fayetteville to the Missouri border with lots of parks and side trails along the way. Everywhere you turn there is hiking, biking, canoeing, geocaching, etc. Enough to never be bored. Community: Excellent Farmer’s Market, lots of community outreach programs, excellent public schools and some great private ones also (or so I’ve heard) Events: We also have lots of events in our area: Bikes Blues & BBQ, Joe Martin Stage Race, First Thursday (every first Thursday downtown), Fayetteville Foam Fest (Local Breweries, Food Trucks, Lots of Beer), War Eagle Crafts Fair, Block Street Block Party, NWA Naturals baseball games, Tri Sport Kid’s Triathlon, Fayetteville Roots Festival, Lights of the Ozarks, Ozark Valley Triathlon, Halloween Monster Dash, Color Vibe 5K Run, Primal Challenge.

There is the Walton Arts Center which has top notch broadway events (musicals, plays, etc). TheatreSquared is also excellent for watching plays. The AMP (Arkansas Music Pavilion) has well known bands/artists every year. There is a Botanical Gardens. Believe it or not, we still have a drive-in theatre which plays current movies and is lots of fun. There is also a retro-arcade, bowling, skating rink, Locomotion (go karts, arcade, mini-golf), Gater Golf (mini-golf), several area Golf courses that are very nice, museums, and lots more. Outdoors: We are right next to the Ozark National Forrest, Beaver Lake, the Buffalo River, White River, Mulberry River, Devil’s Den state park, the Ozark Highlands Trail (218 miles through seven counties), caving, rock climbing, hand gliding, scuba diving in Beaver lake, and countless more to do. There is an excellent paved trail system that stretches from south of Fayetteville to the Missouri border with lots of parks and side trails along the way. Everywhere you turn there is hiking, biking, canoeing, geocaching, etc. Enough to never be bored. Community: Excellent Farmer’s Market, lots of community outreach programs, excellent public schools and some great private ones also (or so I’ve heard) Events: We also have lots of events in our area: Bikes Blues & BBQ, Joe Martin Stage Race, First Thursday (every first Thursday downtown), Fayetteville Foam Fest (Local Breweries, Food Trucks, Lots of Beer), War Eagle Crafts Fair, Block Street Block Party, NWA Naturals baseball games, Tri Sport Kid’s Triathlon, Fayetteville Roots Festival, Lights of the Ozarks, Ozark Valley Triathlon, Halloween Monster Dash, Color Vibe 5K Run, Primal Challenge.

Sehr schöne und abwechslungsreiche Zweitagestour im wunderschönen Nationalpark Kalkalpen: Mountainbiken, Wandern, Klettersteig gehen! Bike & Hike ist super!
Buch Bike & Hike
Bike & Hike (Amazon Link)
Ich habe mir aus dem Buch „Bike & Hike. Oberösterreich und Steiermark“ von Peter Backé (siehe auch Buchtipp Bike & Hike) die zwei Touren [2] und [3] ausgesucht und mit einer Übernachtung auf der Ebenforstalm kombiniert. Insofern ist das jetzt auch gleich der Praxistest für das Buch.
Mein Sohn hat die Freude am Radfahren entdeckt und sich bereit erklärt mitzufahren. Ausserdem hat es diesmal geklappt, dass Peter und ich Zeit für eine gemeinsame Tour haben. Insofern ist es nicht nur meine erste Bike & Hike Tour, sondern für mich auch noch eine vom Buchautor geführte Tour!
Anreise
Die Anreise mit dem Zug in die oberösterreichischen Voralpen ist von Wien aus für die Entfernung sehr schnell: In nur 2:21 Stunden kommt man von Wien nach Reichraming, weil die Westbahnstrecke mit über 200 Stundenkilometern gefahren werden kann. In St. Valentin steigen wir in die beschaulichere S-Bahn um.
Im Railjet muss für jedes Fahrrad ein Stellplatz reserviert werden. In Railjet und S-Bahn braucht jedes Fahrrad ein eigenes Ticket.
Hinfahrt
Bike: Hinauf zur Ebenforstalm
Peter gibt mir noch in Wien einen super Tipp: Die Auffahrt zur Ebenforstalm ist lang und steil. Ich soll mir ein E-Mountainbike für meinen Sohn ausborgen. Direkt in Reichraming gibt es einen Verleih. Das spart auch den Transport. Leider haben sie keine Räder mehr, als ich anrufe. Allerdings finde ich in Wien ein Fahrradgeschäft, in dem ich ein Kinder-E-Mountainbike ausborgen kann. Das zahlt sich absolut aus, weil es dem Junior sehr viel Spaß macht mühelos und lachend an mir vorbei zu radeln!
Start in Reichraming
Vom Bahnhof Reichraming sind es bis zur Ebenforstalm etwas mehr als 20 Kilometer und 700 Höhenmeter. Mir fällt auf, dass viele Mountainbiker elektrische Unterstützung nutzen. Ich gehöre nicht dazu, schaue aber neidvoll meinem Sohnemann nach, wenn er mit Leichtigkeit berauf davonradelt.
Vom Bahnhof bis zur Hütte brauchen wir 3 Stunden. Ich gestehe, dass ich das begrenzende Element bin.
Gatter Ebenforstalm
Hike: Alpstein und Trämpl
Peter und ich gehen ohne einzukehren gleich los, lassen aber die meisten Sachen in der Hütte. Den Junior lasse ich auch dort, damit er am nächsten Tag noch Lust hat den Triftsteig zu gehen.
Der Alpstein liegt südöstlich der Ebenforstalm, der Trämpl südlich davon. Beide sind schön von unten zu sehen. Dementsprechend ist auch die Alm vom Gipfel aus gut zu sehen.

Wir gehen zuerst auf den Alpstein und dann über den Trämpl drüber, wieder zur Hütte hinunter. Für die Strecke, die etwas 400 Höhenmeter inkludiert, brauchen wir recht genau 2 Stunden.
Übernachtung auf der Ebenforstalm
Mir hat die Ebenforstalm sehr gut gefallen! Ich muss ehrlich zugeben, dass mir eine Hütte suspekt ist, auf der es keinen Schweinsbraten gibt, aber schlussendlich habe ich ganz ausgezeichnete Käsespätzle gegessen.
Die Übernachtung ist einfach gehalten im Lager. Dafür gibt es frische Bettwäsche – ein Hüttenschlafsack wäre nicht notwendig. Und es gibt eine Dusche!
Ebenforstalm
Bike: Abfahrt und Annerlsteg
Nach dem Frühstück machen wir uns fertig und besteigen wieder unsere Fahrräder. Wir fahren auf der Schotterstraße zum Großen Bach hinunter und biegen unten nach rechts, flußaufwärts ab. Unser Ziel ist der Annerlsteg.
Abfahrt ins Tal in der Früh
Durch Tunnel der alten Waldbahn
Raddepot beim Annerlsteg
Die Fahrt geht sehr leicht steigend auf der früheren Trasse der Waldbahn bis zu unserem Raddepot vor dem Annerlsteg. Hier beginnt der Tiftsteig.
Von der Ebenforstalm bis zum Annerlsteg brauchen wir fast 1,5 Stunden (wobei wir sehr vorsichtig hinunter gefahren sind).
Hike: Triftsteig
Der Trifsteig ist landschaftlich das absolute Highlight dieser zwei Bike & Hike Tage! Prinzipiell ist es ein Klettersteig der Schwierigkeitsstufe B. Ich habe für meinen Sprössling also ein Klettersteigset mit. Weitgehend braucht er es aber nicht. Der Weg ist zwar immer schmal, aber es sind nur wenige ausgesetzte Stellen, bzw. Kletterstellen.
Triftsteig

Der Trifsteig führt am Bach entlang
Wir brauchen für den Triftsteig vom Annerlsteg bis zum Ausstieg vor dem Schleierfall recht genau 1,5 Stunden.
Hike: Varianten zurück zum Annerlsteg
Es gibt verschiedene Varianten zu den Rädern zurück zu kommen: Die einfachste ist auf der Forststraße durch die Tunnel direkt und eben zurück zu gehen. Die zweite Variante startet mit einem recht steilen Aufstieg von etwa 400 Höhenmeter links vor dem Schleierfall Richtung Ablaufalm hinauf.

Der Weg läßt links beeindruckende Tiefblicke auf den Großen Bach zu und lockt rechts mit mehreren kleinen Wasserfällen des Hochschlachtbachs. Ich nehme – sehr zum Gaudium meines Sohnes – ein extrem erfrischendes Bad in einem solchen Gumpen.
Hochschlachtbach
Wir sind – inklusive Jausen- und Badepausen – fast 3 Stunden vom Schleierfall zum Annerlsteg unterwegs. Wir lassen die Anlaufalm rechts liegen um schneller zu den Fahrrädern zu kommen, weil wir mit den Fahrrädern bei der Großen Klaushütte einkehren wollen.
Bike: Zum Bahnhof Reichraming
Die Abfahrt vom Annerlsteg wird nur durch den planmäßigen Aufenthalt in der Großen Klaushütte und dem unplanmäßigem Abstieg von mir bei der Ausfahrt einer Kurve unterbrochen. Es ist ein spektakulärer Unfall den ich abliefere: Ich schaffe es in den Straßengraben zu fahren, das Vorderrad zu blockieren, mich vom Fahrrad zu befreien und in gebückter Stellung auf beiden Füßen stehend, zum Stehen zu kommen – die Hände bereits in den Büschen vor mir. Werder mir noch meinem Fahrrad ist etwas passiert!
Rückfahrt zum Bahnhof Reichraming
Heimreise
Die Heimreise erfolgt genauso zügig wie die Anreise mit S-Bahn und Railjet.

Conclusio
Absolut sensationelle Erfahrung! Ohne Fahrrad ist die Distanz Reichraming zum Triftsteig natürlich auch zu schaffen. Aber 20 Kilometer Schotterstraße gehen, oder fahren ist schon ein großer Unterschied.
Uns hat es allen sehr gut gefallen! War als Zweitagestour auch sehr gut angelegt, weil wir nicht am selben Tag wieder nach Hause hetzen mussten.
Ich werde das Konzept Bike & Hike in mein Repertoire aufnehmen!
