It was funny how only days ago the two of them were chit-chatting so casually. Happily. Maybe some slight teasing one way or another. Their banter was hardly tense or even unpleasant. For Aqua, that was something she just brought to the table by nature of being a stranger to this world. Everything was new, and she had an earnest desire to hear about it. She never made Aranea feel as though she was only going through the motions. Everything she learned about this place was a privilege to understand. Knowing Aranea was a privilege, too, even if the latter seemed to think she was unworthy. Aqua was some foreign warrior with an unshakable sense of honor and sincere desire to do the right thing while she… wasn’t. And yet Aqua didn’t care. She still took her time to talk with her whenever she got the chance. She took the time out to ask her the most casual things, like her favorite color. That was probably what was so jarring when out of a seemingly quiet, calm night on Eos, there was a distant rumble, a roar, and then a shower of distinctly red sparks shot into the sky high enough to be seen even from the deck of her ship.
Aranea would honestly be the first one to admit that she has no sense of honor. Considering the resume, having been a mercenary and a commanding officer for the Imperial Empire, it wasn’t hard to see where her loyalties lied. Still, that didn’t mean she was a heartless woman or didn’t care about people. In fact, she left the Empire for the sake of helping the common folk that were unfortunately caught in the crossfire. She found a small group of men that were loyal to her from her merc days and had them working double time during this age of darkness. Even her closest men -- Biggs and Wedge, remained at her side when she turned her back on an Empire that favored the ruin of humanity and it’s pet daemons. It wasn’t worth the fat paycheck at the end of the when cities were burning by the hour; followed by darkness.
So she made it her personal mission to assist any hunters or remaining Glaives that were still active to be rid of the daemons. Tonight was no different as she looked out the window from her bridge. A dark crimson light pierced the skies as she looked ahead. That didn’t look like any normal flair.
More like...magic.
Her eyes went wide as her heart sank in an instant. Oh gods -- Was that Aqua?!
She rushed to the edge of her bridge, calling out to Biggs and Wedge, her crimson leather gloves clinging to the railings,“Get us to the location of that flair. N O W!” Both men gave each other a look before turning to the former Commodre, “Are ya’ sure, Lady A?” Biggs asked, “Doesn’t look like anyone is out here tonight and --” “Did I ask for sass?! We’re here to clean up the daemons and to help the hunters. If we ignore that flair we could very well be allowing someone to die. NOW MOVE IT!”
Both of them rose their hands, “ “ Rodger that, Lady A!” “ As the air ship was shifted out of idle to curise, she made her way to the docking bay, adjusting her armor while she moved. When she was at the back door, she was handed her helm and lance. It was only a matter of time before the doors would open. “Hang in there..We’re comin’..” She only prayed that she wasn’t too late.
