Oglebay’s Backyard BBQ Set for Memorial Day Weekend
Tumblr media
Food. Beverages. Live Music. Family fun. Those are the four primary components for this year’s Backyard BBQ at Ogebay during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. The event, presented by The Glessner Group of Wheeling, kicks off Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. with live music, tasty foods, and a large beverage menu from which to choose. For a third consecutive year, thanks to the support from The Glessner Group, a pair of national recording artists will headline the Saturday evening concert at Camp Russell. Frankie Ballard and his band feature a country/bluesy sound, according to Oglebay programming manager Jon Banco, will lead off, and then Rodney Atkins - an award-winning country star with roots in Tennessee - will close the show. “The Backyard BBQ is Oglebay’s way of celebrating the beginning of summer for both the kids in the area and their parents and everyone else,” Banco explained. “There will be plenty of activities for the children, and a lot of different food vendors, live entertainment, a children’s area, bourbon tasting, and, of course, the big concert on Saturday evening. “This is the first time we’ll welcome country music to the Backyard BBQ’s big show with Rodney Atkins and Frankie Ballard scheduled for Saturday evening,” he explained. “With the great history with country music in this region, we expect folks will really have a great time with the music and the surroundings.” Banco offered a piece of advice for those planning to attend the Saturday evening concert, too. “The best thing for those attending the country shows Saturday evening is to come up early, find your parking area, and come enjoy the great food and everything else we’ll have available for those who attend,” Banco said. “Along with the vendors and the bourbon tasting, we’ll have cooking demonstrations from our local professionals, the Little Piggie Fun Zone for the kids, and a lot of different live entertainment before the big shows. “All of the live entertainment is free except the big shows Saturday evening at Camp Russell,” he confirmed. “Before the gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the Frankie Ballard and Rodney Atkins performances Saturday evening, we’ll have Gage Joseph at the Site One stage to get everyone warmed up, ‘Intro to BBQ’ and ‘Whole Hog Prep’ classes, the ‘Pigs Gone Wild Race,’ and a lot of other activities that are all family-friendly.” Oglebay's Backyard BBQ features award-winning vendors from throughout the region. Real Good Grub (Jim’s Smokin Que, R & G Smokehouse, Off the Bone BBQ, Wood Fired Pizza, Ideal Provisions, Lulu’s Bubble Tea, Grilled Pineapple, Pittsburgh Crepes, Kirk’s Ice Cream, Sno Biz Shave Ice, and root beer and lemonades trucks.) Something for everyone? “We’ll have a few major barbecue vendors and some others from throughout the year with things like the wood-fired pizza and some desserts,” Banco said. “We’re having Off the Bone, Jim’s Smokin’ Que, and R&G Smokehouse BBQ coming into from out of area, and plenty of local foods, too, and all of the vendors will be prepped to serve up until 9 p.m. each evening. “The barbecue trucks will offer a lot of everything that’s traditional, and also some specialty items they enter into the contests,” he said. “When it comes to barbecue, there are a lot of competitions and these vendors are very highly decorated, that’s for sure. And our plans are for the lines to be short because of how these vendors do their events.” Along with the available food, demonstrations and tastings are scheduled, as well. Bourbon tastings are scheduled for Friday from 6-9 p.m. and from 1-6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, cooking demos will take place on both days, and children’s activities will be available during the weekend afternoons. “Everything we’re doing during the Backyard BBQ is family-friendly because that’s what Oglebay is all about,” Banco said. “We love our barbecue in this area of the country so we thought it would be interesting and helpful to have the demonstrations by our local chefs, and we also have some folks who really appreciate their bourbon so I’m hoping to get some local aficionados to talk about their preferences during the tastings. “There’s going to be a lot for parents to do with their kids, too,” he said. “As a father, I’ve learned how important it is for the kids to have as much fun as the adults, so that’s why we’re planning to have a great mix for everyone.” The majority of the live entertainment is free to the public at Site One near the Levenson Shelter. Sing a Song. Sing It Loud. (Libby Adams, Devon Allen Johnson & Ruff Creek, Tammy Jo & Iron Horse, 7 South, Gage Joseph Band, Jason Treuman, MSM, Bucket of Puppies, Punching Oswald, Thunderstruck) And, thanks again to The Glessner Group, Frankie Ballard and Rodney Atkins on the Camp Russell stage Saturday evening, too. “The Wheeling area community really supports us at The Glessner Group so we’re always looking for ways to give back to the people in this region, and we believe the Backyard BBQ is a great way to do just that,” said founder Gary Glessner. “In the beginning, we went back and forth with ideas until settling on this kind of a weekend, and I think it’s worked out great for everyone involved. “This area has a rich history and a rich appreciation for country music, so I believe the performers this year are great to go along with that tradition,” he continued. “It’s all about the summer months and getting it started the right way, and that’s why The Glessner Group is proud to be involved again this year.” Banco agrees, and he’s convinced this year’s schedule of performers is the finest he’s collected for Oglebay’s annual summer kick-off. “I think the live music is going to be better than it’s been for the first two Backyard BBQs,” Banco said. “We get started with Libby Adams, and she has such a strong voice that she’s going to attract a lot of attention to the Levenson right from the start. After Libby on Friday, Devon Allen Johnson & Ruff Creek will take over and they’re a terrific country cover band with some of their own songs, too. “On Saturday, the live music begins on the Site One stage at Noon with Tammy Jo & Iron Horse, and we’ll have country music all afternoon,” he said. “Sunday will be more of a variety with five different performances, including an AC/DC tribute band at the end of the day. So, on top of the big concert, we’ll have a lot more live music this year for the Backyard BBQ.” While Atkins debuted in the late 1990s and has been nominated for a number of different country music awards, Ballard has charted eight singles on the Hot Country Songs charts over the last six years after performing for a few years in Nashville for the Grand Ole Opry. That’s another reason why Banco agrees with Glessner - country is the perfect genre of music for this year’s Memorial Day weekend. “We started the Backyard BBQ three years ago and it’s been a great success the first two years,” he said. “The first year we had the Gin Blossoms for the Saturday concert, and last year it was Collective Soul, and the crowds have been terrific because those are bands we don’t get to see in this area very often at all. The same is true with Rodney Atkins and Frankie Ballard. “We’ve learned a lot the first two years, too, and that’s why we expected this year’s Backyard BBQ to be the best yet,” he said. “This event is Oglebay’s official summer kick-off just like Oglebayfest is for the Fall season in the Upper Ohio Valley, and it’s for our local residents and for the people who stay with us at Wilson Lodge or in one of the cottages. And, for the most part, the entertainment is free to the public as a thank you for all of the support our local residents give Oglebay all year long.” Read the full article

Writing and researching for this request made me so hungry, but fun! o^_^o
Here you go:
Junkrat & Roadhog Opening a Shop with S/O *SFW*
Tumblr media
Junkrat
The idea of opening a food truck together with Junkrat started during a mission. You two were trapped in an abandoned restaurant on Route 66 after a deal gone wrong with the Deadlock gang.
You started cooking your family secret recipe BBQ chicken. Junkrat didn’t know you could cook. He hasn’t seen you cook more than stuffing bread into the toaster and making grilled cheese sandwiches.
Junkrat shows you his favorite BBQ meals he learned back in the Outback. You and Junkrat started making meals during occasional Overwatch parties. Then it grew.
You set up a website, people ordered online, and you delivered the food.
Finally, there was enough money saved to purchase a legit food truck . Junkrat wanted to get a food truck the wrong way by stealing one or robbing a bank. You couldn’t tell Junkrat about the money because he kept spending it on frivolous things, even though he promised to save up too.
The food truck business was an ultimate success! The name: “KA-BOOM BBQ!”Junkrat would be wary of other food truck competitors and threaten to blow up their trucks. You warned him not to do so to avoid lawsuits.
The two of you made a line of signature BBQ sauces.
People have requested brick and mortar restaurants. You and Junkrat preferred the food truck business. It was a chance for you to travel. Junkrat loved being able to spend more time with you in a small space. <3
Roadhog eventually joins the food truck family to help cook and drive. McCree, Soldier 76, Mei, Lucio, Reinhardt, and D.Va sometimes helped out cooking in the truck, but Hog was the only permanent staff.

Roadhog
Before you and Roadhog officially dated, you two used to exchange sweets with each other every time you met at Headquarter’s cafeteria.
You were enjoying Roadie’s snacks so much you forgot to tell him you had specific food allergies. Eventually, you ended up in the hospital after a severe allergic reaction to a batch of Hog’s cookies.
It took a while for Roadhog to forgive himself. You kept telling him it was ultimately your fault, but the poor big baby kept blaming himself.
Hog asked you if you wanted to start a bakery. You happily obliged to the business opportunity.
You two started baking sales, saving money for a brick and mortar building. Plus, a small portion of the money was donated to local charities: children’s hospitals, animal sanctuaries, and homeless people and veterans affected by the Omnic Wars.
Roadhog started creating “How to Bake” videos online and showing off your products. The videos had excellent ratings. Hog was growing quite a fanbase. Some viewers were dying to see Hog’s real face and commented on his “deep sexy voice.”  Monetization from the videos was a BIG help.
You two finally opened your bakery: “Sweet Piggy” after what Hog called you. At first, Hog had the idea to name it “Sweet As,” but people would get the wrong idea.
The bakery was completely allergy-free, gluten-free, and vegan. Decorated with cute stuffies (especially pachimaris).
Junkrat comes by almost every day for the food. He tries to steal them without paying, but Hog always catches his ass.
Roadhog wants to make the place a piglet café where people would play with the piglets as they ate their sweets. How to get this approved is in the works…
“Sweet Piggy” Menu Sample
Cookies (Chocolate chip, Sugar, Pumpkin spice *seasonal*, Gingerbread *seasonal*, Vegemite, Kiwi Thumbprint, Oatmeal, Red Velvet *seasonal*, Lemon sugar, Molasses, Shortbread, Egg nog *seasonal*)

Cakes (Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Pavlova, Pumpkin, Banana, Birthday, Jelly)
Cupcakes (all flavors Sweet Piggy offers)
Drinks (various teas and coffees)
How about that, anon? ;-)

Tomorrow begins Memphis’ monthlong civic celebration of music, barbecue, and ridiculous good times. As is tradition, here are the I Love Memphis ABCs of Memphis in May to help you get prepared for all the festivities. A is for Art: Every year, Memphis in May releases a fine art poster commemorating that year’s featured country. Memphis artist Nick Peña created this year’s painting (below). A is also for app: Memphis in May has their very own app that you can download for Apple and Android devices. It’ll come in handy in particularly during Beale Street Music Fest. B is for Barbecue: The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is a magical time when pit-masters from all over converge on Tom Lee Park to slow cook pork (and chicken and alligator and anything else that can fit on a grill). It’s happening May 17 – 20. C is for Cash: Bring some. You’re going to need it for food, beer, parking and any extras you plan on picking up. There are ATMs on site, too. D is for Don’t drink and drive: Finding a hotel room might be kind of dicey at this point, but you have several options for getting around safely if you plan to imbibe. A) Make a friend who lives in 38103 and make their place your home base. B) Program this number into your phone: (901) 577-7777 – it’s the local cab company. Pro-tip: If you’re calling a cab, call about an hour before you’re ready to leave since they’re going to be busy. C) Use ride-sharing apps Uber or Lyft. Just prepare for waiting and surge pricing. E is for Embrace the insanity: Memphis in May is a giant, month-long party, so treat it as such. There’s no point in getting upset about little things (weather, drunk people, waiting, road closures, whatever). Take a deep breath and reach a place of acceptance and tolerance for the festival’s inborn quirks and you’ll have a great time no matter what. F is for food: There are food vendors of all kinds – ice cream, vendor (not competition) barbecue, tacos, funnel cake, lemonade, Pronto Pups – at all of the MIM events at Tom Lee Park. Make it your mission to try one of everything. Last year I got to try this mac ‘n’ cheese eggroll from a food truck. G is also for galoshes, aka Rain Boots: The weather is unpredictable, and you’re not going to want to walk around in flip flops (or heels – c’mon people, use some common sense) so go with some sneakers you don’t mind getting muddy, or the traditional shoe of Memphis in May: the mighty rainboot. I’d take some plastic ponchos as well. H is for Have a plan: Don’t depend on cell service to connect you with pals, because the last few years it’s basically impossible to get through via text or phone calls, especially during Beale Street Music Fest. Instead, make a plan of when and where to meet or what to do if you get separated from your group. Some folks even bring walkie talkies. I is for International Week: It’s not the all-out party the rest of MIM is, but International Week during May 8-14 is a good time to learn something about this year’s honored country, Colombia. Check out the cultural events, performances and eating opportunities and be proud that you learned something during the festival. J is for Judges at Barbecue Fest: It’s a cruel irony when all of Tom Lee Park smells like a barbecue sandwich and you can’t technically have any of it. Due to health department rules, barbecue contest cooking team tents are treated like private parties (meaning they’re invite only, and you can’t just walk in and buy food and eat). The only people who get to sample the teams’ cooking without an invite are the festival’s highly trained team of judges. K is for Know someone on a Barbecue Team: These are the solutions to the problem presented above. a) Know someone on a BBQ team: If you do know, though, don’t abuse it. If your buddies are willing to let you in, awesome, but don’t try to bring a pack of friends with you. Also, mind your manners: your barbecue team friend is doing you a favor, so you should be as low maintenance as possible and definitely tip. b) You can also buy $15 “BBQ Alley” tickets  in addition to your Barbecue Fest admission ticket. This is new this year. Read all the fine print and get tickets here. Local festival: 901Fest, a celebration of all things Memphis, returns again this year on May 27. There’s a lineup of local bands and performers, local vendors selling art and more, and food and drink from local favorites. Tickets are $9 and the event goes from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. M is for Music Fest: The Beale Street Music Festival (May 5-7) is the official start of the Memphis in May madness. Check the lineup list here and the times and stages schedule here. N is for You Need To Bring Some Things: OK, this this probably not the most clever N phrase, but I wanted to let you know what you’re allowed to bring into the park: Read the rules about what you can/can’t bring here. O is for Overheated: You’re going to be outside in a park with little shade in Memphis in May. Even if it’s not crazy hot outside, it’s still easy to get overheated. Drink water, find a cool place to sit, and quit when your body tells you to. P is for Parking: Parking in one of the downtown lots or garages for Memphis in May can get a little pricey, so bring cash. If you’re willing to walk a bit, there might be some free parking to be had on the northern and southern ends of downtown. Don’t forget that the MATA trolley buses will be running, even late during BSMF. Check out that schedule here. Q is for Que-related Dance Contest: Don’t miss the Miss Piggy Idol contest on Thursday at the Barbecue Cooking Contest. There are costumes, there are props, there are men in dresses singing songs whose lyrics have been modified to be about pork. I am still laughing about 2014’s rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” that became “Beans ‘n’ Slaw”. R is for Run, Great American: One of two new events for Memphis in May this year, the Great American River Run is a 5K and half-marathon on May 28, 201y. Learn more here. S is for Shoes, Sunscreen, and Sunglasses: Wear real shoes. Memphis in May is no place for cute footwear. No flip flops, no heels. Think old sneakers, all-weather boots, something like that. The park is a mile long, and I’ve seen many a sad, abandoned single flip flop languishing in the mud. Also, don’t be one of those people “working on your tan” and just go ahead and wear that sunscreen (and sunglasses!) T is for Tip in barbecue fest booths: Barbecue Fest team booths are crazy expensive. The least you can do is toss a $20 in the jar for the bartender (especially if the drinks are free). U is for Umbrellas not allowed: Wear a poncho or modify a Hefty Bag instead if rain gear is needed. V is for Vendors: At 901Fest on May 27, you’ll be able to shop local vendors. W is for Water: Dehydration sucks, and it’s easily preventable. Start hydrating a few days before you head to Music Fest or BBQ Fest. During the festivals, a good rule is one bottle of water / big glass of water for every big beer. X is for X-citing to see all those bands: I know I’m cheating with the X on this one, but the point is that the lineup has a lot going on. See the whole list here. Y is for You’re going to need a break: At some point, you will need a break from the festival. It’s more than ok to leave Tom Lee Park for a little bit and grab a snack (and a seat) at any of the restaurants downtown. Z is for Ziploc baggies: Put your phone (and anything else that doesn’t need to come in contact with water) in a Ziploc baggie before you stash it in your pocket or bag. It sounds low tech, but isn’t a bad idea especially if you don’t want to bother with a purse. If you’ve got any other tips, please leave them in the comments. A BBQ fest “tent”. Glessner Going Country for this Year’s Backyard BBQ
Tumblr media
It’s actually his favorite genre of music. Gary Glessner loved Styx back in high school and Fleetwood Mac was cool then, too, but these days if this husband, father, and business owner is listening to a little Luke Bryan or Chris Stapleton, he’s at peace and pleased. That’s a big reason why country music will take center stage during Oglebay’s third annual Backyard BBQ this Memorial Day weekend. Country star Rodney Atkins is scheduled for the Main Event that’s set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Camp Russell. The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. and food and beverages will be on sale inside the venue. The Glessner Group, a financial and insurance firm in the Elm Grove neighborhood in Wheeling, is the presenting sponsor for a third straight year. Open to all, Oglebay’s Backyard BBQ Festival at Levenson Shelter is a must-attend summer extravaganza. Tickets for the Rodney Atkins performance are priced at $45 at oglebay.com/backyardBBQ. “We wanted this event to have a main attraction on the primary night to draw as many people as we could so we could guarantee the Memorial Day weekend event was a success,” explained Glessner, the president of The Glessner Group. “Without our sponsorship, we knew this could not be possible. “I grew up in Wheeling,” he said. “I have been very fortunate to have had success in my career and feel morally obligated to give back to our great community. That’s why we like to support a lot of different community activities and events so others can enjoy the many community activities that our small town has to offer.”   According to Oglebay President and CEO Bob Peckenpaugh, the Backyard BBQ Festival weekend will feature barbecue and bourbon showcases, a “Little Piggie’s Play Zone,” a new, Sunday-only “Grill ‘n Gears Truck Show, and several live performances by local and regional performers. More than 10 food vendors have committed to serving items like barbecue, wood-fired pizza, crepes, ice cream, and other desserts. “Since Memorial Day weekend is a time for family, this event has allowed for family members of all ages to come and enjoy everything that is offered,” Glessner said. “There’s great live music all three days, and there’s all kinds of great food. There’s even cooking demonstrations that are really interesting. “We’ve been involved since it started because Oglebay is a terrific place and we’re very lucky to have it here in our backyard. It’s really the perfect for place for our community to gather for the beginning of summer,” he explained. “There are so many different activities in Oglebay that are great for families so, hopefully, this year’s concert can be a highlight of a great weekend.” Glessner is a native of Dallas Pike, is a member of Linsly School's Class of 1985, and now serves as the chair of Linsly's Board of Trustees. Glessner was graduated from The Linsly School in 1985, and that means his teenage years were filled with rock n’ roll, a little punk, and country. Even today he lists “Renegade” by Styx, “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, and “Play it Again” by Luke Bryan as his three favorite songs, and he played a Cornet back in high school. But can he sing those songs? “Oh, I definitely cannot sing,” Glessner admitted. “Not even in the shower. “When I was younger, 1970-80s classic rock was always my favorite, but as I got older I really enjoyed country music the most,” he added. “So, this year promises to be the most exciting year of all since our area has been known for country music for a long time. The Jamboree USA, Jamboree in the Hills, and most recently Blame My Roots, have been part of that tradition and this year’s show will add to it.” Oglebay’s Backyard BBQ Festival is scheduled from Friday, May 24 to Sunday the 26th, Wilson Lodge is offering lodging packages for the weekend, and the park has a number of cottages, as well.
