The Big Chimgan Mountain (3309 meters) is not the highest mountain peak in Uzbekistan, though it is very popular holiday destination, due to its location. Big Chimgan is located 80 km from Tashkent. In the winter the Big Chimgan mountain is the favorite place of skiers and snowboarders. In the spring, summer and early autumn it attracts mountaineers, trekkers and mountain amateurs. At the bottom of the mountain there are hotels, shops and rental centers. In order to appreciate all the beauty and majesty of the Big Chimgan, you should examine it from all sides. And when northwestern side of the mountain is visible at the bottom, southern and eastern slopes are accessible only to climbers and trekkers.

The ski resort Beldersay is located 5 km from Chimgan, on the slopes of the Kumbel Mountain (2200 m), on the height of 1600 m. Beldersay is famous for the longest alpine skiing track in Uzbekistan, also there is a cableway with more than 3 km of length.
This place is a real godsend for tourists: a network of entertaining services, mountain woods, rocks, gorges, snowfields, various sanatoria and health resorts, excursion complexes.
Beldersay heads in the peak of the Big Chimgan Mountain. In the middle current of the mountain stream there is the large valley, where you can see a lot of tourist tents in the summer. There is the route through this valley, running from the Urta Kumbel Pass (1850 m) to Chet Kubmel Pass (1880 m) and then to Kumbel Pass (2550 m). On this route you will see many archa (conifer) forests. From the Beldersay valley you can climb the Urta Kumbel Pass, the slope of which leads to the Marble River. This Marble River is the favorite place of tourists. There are local sights as petrified seashells downstream, being evidences that there was an ocean long ago. A little bit lower the Marble river forms the 15-meter high waterfall.
In upper reaches of the Beldersay gorge you can see the entire “picture gallery”: rock paintings of ancient hunters. There are scenes of hunting on ibexes, and also paintings of domesticated animals, cats and dogs. Advantages of mountain area are estimated first of all by specific peculiarities of the climate, beauty and diversity of nature, presence of healing mineral sources, monuments of nature and history.
Visiting Beldersay, you will appreciate the contrast of climate conditions and vegetation, wonderful landscapes of mountain valleys, slopes, snowy peaks, narrow mountain routes, loud waterfalls and mountain streams, blue lakes, beautiful mountain villages with its ancient distinctive national traditions. Here survived many interesting relics of ancient history as petroglyphs and barrows, fortresses, tracks of settlements of primitive people, remains of mines and melting furnaces, ancient period pieces, traces of dinosaurs and etc. Also tourists are keen on ethnographic specific of mountain people, peculiarity of some kishlaks and auls (local villages).
Here you will have a “sea tan” at the height of winter and a lot of unforgettable impressions and memories about indescribable delight of first-class skiing and snowboarding on alpine tracks and virgin slopes, and the wish to come back here again and again. https://samarkandtours.com/uzbekistan/beldersay/

Beldersay Tour
For those who love an excursion into nature, but also love the comforts of civilization, the Beldersay Ring 2 tour is perfect for you. Beldersay is a mountainous region just a two-hours drive from Tashkent, popular in winter for skiing and in summer for the hiking, picnics, and beautiful scenery. Admire the outline of Big Chimgan, and then hike around to the other side of the granite mountain. The route of the hike takes you through canyons, alongside rivers, and past waterfalls. Though the hike itself is only about 7-8 km (4-5 miles), this is the best tour for some unforgettable memories in the mountains of Uzbekistan.
Not far from Tashkent in the outskirts of Chimgan and Beldersay recreation areas, there is a prehistoric monument - Beldersay petroglyphs. In some sources they are mentioned as Kumbel petroglyphs. These rock carvings situated at the height of 2450 meters (8000 feet) is one of many evidences of an ancient culture and life style of primitive people who lived on the territory of Uzbekistan and neighboring states.
The river and the ski resort Beldersay is located in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, 80 kilometres from Tashkent and 5 km from Chimgan tourist camp. While "Chimgan" is usually recommended for family holidays and for novice skiers, "Beldersay" is intended for more experienced athletes. On the territory of the resort built a first-class hotel and ski slopes. There are 2 cable cars –5 km long, lifting time -24 min, height difference of 565 m. and ski trial - about 1 km long, lifting time - 5 min., height difference -200 m).
The snow condition at Beldersay ski resort differs from the European one. The continental climate, the Himalayas on the one hand and Siberia on the other, provide extreme temperatures and heavy snowfall. The snow here is just great, dry and cold, great for skiing and, according to experts, is considered one of the best in the world.
Such monuments are dispersed over many Uzbekistan regions. They can be found in Chimgan, Hodjikent, Bashkilzilsay and other mountain areas. The most famous petroglyphs collection is, of course, the Sarmish-say canyon in the Nuratau mountains. However, while one rock carvings are investigated and are under the protection of corresponding organizations such as UNESCO, other are left neglected and suffer from vandalism actions (signs and ‘visit’ dates of light-minded tourists are carved over a thousand year pictures).
The Beldersay petroglyphs are situated relatively not far from the modern ‘civilization’ - 8 km from the Beldersay recreation area only. Some tours set themselves as an object to visit exactly these rock carvings.
Valley of Beldersay river is very beautiful and there are wonderful views of the Big Chimgan mountain, opening from the surrounding hills. There are several excellent places for campgrounds placing on the left bank of the river. Thus, it is a suitable place for tracking.

Beldersay Mountain Tour
This one-day mountain tour to Beldersay Ring is a short but charming hike, with a wide variety of landscapes in a small area. From narrow, rocky canyons to waterfalls to broad alpine meadows, Beldersay is a great introduction to one of Uzbekistan’s most beautiful natural sites. Beldersay is just 75 km (46 miles) from Tashkent, and is popular among the city’s residents as a picnic place and ski resort, and you’ll be able to see why - Beldersay is a great place to relax and recharge in nature. Though the total length of the hike is only 8 km (5 miles), it usually takes the whole day, though there are no particularly difficult ascents. Beldersay makes for a great trip out of the cities and back to nature, so upgrade your trip with a best tour out into Uzbekistan’s nature..
Not far from Tashkent in the outskirts of Chimgan and Beldersay recreation areas, there is a prehistoric monument - Beldersay petroglyphs. In some sources they are mentioned as Kumbel petroglyphs.  However, the petroglyphs, situated 2 km from the base camp with a 850-900 (2800-2950 feet) height difference with it, are almost not investigated, or materials on them are still closed to the world. The age of the rock carvings on the ridge of the Beldersay hillside is still a big question. A big height, many years of sun effect in summer and of snow in winter make big difficulties for their age determination.
Presumably the age of rock carvings varies from 6 to 10 thousand years and belongs to the late Stone Age epoch. Definitely, the Beldersay petroglyphs need to be investigated and to be saved as well as other prehistoric period monuments.

Uzbekistan Mountain Tour
Adventurous and active travellers that want to experience Uzbekistan’s nature will love this day of hiking in the Gulkam Canyon and the Chimgan Mountains. Start by climbing up to the pass for magnificent mountain views, before descending through a grove of birch trees towards the canyon and enjoying a picnic in a beautiful location by a stream. Enter the canyon via a special walkway and marvel at the waterfalls and dramatic views of the steep canyon walls, before ending the day with a short walk along the river.
Chimgan (Chatkal Range, Western Tien Shan) is a most beautiful recreation area ski resort situated in Bostanlyk District, Tashkent Province, situated just 85 km from Tashkent (1.5 hours by car), at an altitude of 1,600 m above sea level. The Chimgan Valley is a narrow stretch 15 km long surrounded by mountains on all sides, its elevations ranging from 1,200 m to 1,600 m above sea level. The highest point of the area is Greater Chimgan Peak (3,309 m), which can often be seen with a naked eye from Tashkent streets. Next to Big Chimgan there is Little Chimgan Peak (2,097 m).
The Chimgan Mountains are a place of pilgrimage for all who like outdoor activities and active recreation in the mountains, alpine skiing and travelling in the mountains of Uzbekistan. The area is frequented by mountaineers, rock climbers, skiers, snowboarders, hikers, hang gliders and paraglider riders, as well as photographers, singer-songwriters and other creative persons.
The Big Chimgan area features a large number of mountaineering and trekking routes to satisfy any taste and skill level, while the pistes (green, blue, red and black) of the ski resort are equipped with a chairlift and a T-bar lift. The mountain slopes in the neighbourhood are very good for free riding and backcountry skiing.
The Chimgan recreation complex includes hotels, resorts, sanatoria, children camps, shops, restaurants and cafes, rental agencies for skiing equipment and a bus station. There you can also ride a horse, all-terrain vehicle, paraglider or hang glider.
Most of the skiing slopes in the area face northward, which ensures stable snow cover and a long skiing season, from December till April, while the large number of sunny days in winter makes skiing in the Chimgan Mountains particularly enjoyable. In some years snow patches in the central couloir of Big Chimgan remain till mid-summer.
You can take your children to Chimgan, as the place is beautiful and warm, the altitudes are not too high and you can reach the area by many types of transport. The place is a perfect one for acquainting children with mountains.
The cleanest Charvak Reservoir, a wonderful place for summer beach vacations, is just 30 km from Chimgan.
