From A Myriad of Unfinished Books, Interleaved (which I'm writing a lot of and have no idea what to actually do with), the first seven lines:

By the age that I realized I could be kicked out of school I was far older than the age when my father was evicted from Kindergarten for telling his pre-world-war-two teacher to go fuck herself. He went on to live a James Thurber style childhood. His favorite story about his high school experience, suitably for a man who would become chief of nuclear medicine, came from biology. He usually got poor marks because he couldn’t see the slides under the microscope. Until one day, like a miracle, he adjusted the mirror just right, and a miniature world lay exposed to him. He sketched with such mad fervor and excitement that the teacher came over to check on him, discovering that he had turned his examination inward and sketched the interior of his own colorblind eye. He talked very little about being 15, even though, like the end of his first marriage, it defined his life.

This was another section of the book that came to me early on and stayed through every draft. I really feel it brings Nate’s voice out and highlights the not-so-great state that New York, and the rest of America, has fallen into.

WIP Cameo Reblog game!

Hi friends! Quarantine has been a lonely time for me personally so I decided to start a little reblog game-I’m going to tag people simply for visibility but ideally if you see this post, you can just reblog and answer. How it works: there’s a prompt and you answer it with your WIPs (link them if applicable) and reblog! Here it goes:

Congrats! Your book has been adapted into a movie or show! What background character are you going to play for your cameo? Also what visual medium would best suit your book?

The Island: I’d probably cameo as an Islander or a protestor in Act 3. 

The Quasi Immortal Trilogy: This is hard because there’s not a lot of background ‘extras’. It really revolves around the main cast and the person they’re saving. So the first person they save is a burlesque dancer so I’d probably cameo as the choreographer’s assistant or the show director since I am a dancer. 

The Accursed: I’d cameo as one of the nurses in Phoebe’s psych ward. Or one of Jules’ customer, getting my fortune read. 

Anthropogene: I think it depends how old I am when this book gets adopted because it’s set in high school. So if I’m still in my early 20s, I could probably get away with cameo-ing as a highschooler with one dumb, throwaway line haha. If I’m older, I’d probably play a teacher or one of Mason’s or Ash’s neighbors since the setting is in the suburbs.

oh crap i almost forgot it’s TIB tuesday - march 24th, 2020

here is this week’s update on the second draft of the in-between. catch up on all TIB Tuesdays here.

thoughts so far:

i legit have no idea what day it is anymore lmao

current events have not been kind to my mental health and writing is Hard

i’m supposed to be doing camp nano (my goal is to tack 27 000 words to this draft) but. we’ll see.

excerpt: have i mentioned Kumar before? in case you missed it, Kumar, a 17-year old errand boy in the Arroyo’s neighborhood, is my new favourite side character who appeared in exactly one paragraph in the first draft, who suddenly got a subtle yet vital role in draft 2. so, remember him.

Baby dropped off the vegetables at the apartment before climbing into the passenger’s seat of Kumar’s pickup truck.

“What’re you gonna do on Queen’s Hill?” Kumar asked as he started the truck down the street.

I’m going to investigate visions given to me by shadows in a Void spot.

Baby shrugged. “Nature walk,” she said instead, hoping he wouldn’t pry any more than that.

To her relief, all he said was, “Oh. Cool.”

Baby still didn’t know Kumar that well, but she was under the impression that she could have told him the truth, and he would have given her exactly the same reaction.

AYATO UPDATE

So I know I’ve been silent for a while but I’ve been working out all the ins and outs of a massive chapter with a lot of time and characters to keep track of. so, basically-

Yeah, I am suffering. Plus online classes have started and they are annoying as fuck and really stressful and time consuming so shit is going to be slow but on the upside, I am almost done with the first POV of the chapter. Don’t know exactly how I’ll structure it yet with the rest of the chapter but I have most of the stuff down so we’ll see how it goes. Hopefully I will have at least some content for you by the end of next week. Anyway, i hope this isn’t too sad lol. Time delays are nothing new with me but hopefully the content at the end is worth the wait. talk more soon xx

AYATO UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! AND A GODDAMN MILESTONE!!!!!

We finally reached 100K words!!!!

And we're officially done with the entire first week (and a little more of September!! in the book I mean) we'll be doing some time jumps soon so this was definitely the easy bit honestly (keeping track of all the characters is not going to be fun). but! besides that though I did finish writing chapter 12 and it's melodramatic as shit (as I promised with the premise and I'm finally delivering especially with the Aaron pov) and I'm doing some basic edits rn so expect something new tonight and tomorrow lol because holy shit I love how the end of this chapter turned out. It's not a cliffhanger and I'm... Completely satisfied with it? It's a weird feeling that hopefully you'll understand once you read the thing. And I'm doing some more basic planning for chapter 13 and I'll hopefully be done with the planning and maybe even some writing by the end of the week because I'm actually trying to write at least 200 words every single day and edit at least half a pov. So we'll see how that works out because I was on a roll today and absolutely wrote 3K words in one sitting. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good once I've finished preparing for chapter 13.

But that's all and I'll see y'all tonight with a quick pov with Ingram and tomorrow with Mason and Thea. Like I said before we're gonna put a tiny bit of a pause on Joe's stuff for now so I'll post it at the end of all of the povs I have right now. See y'all soon :)

i’m notoriously unable to commit to one project at a time, so for nano i plan to split my wordcount across a few.

i’m so close to finishing the draft -- i estimate less than 10k -- and i aim to finish this before moving onto the other projects, so that it can sit for the rest of november until i return to start editing in december.

i had planned to start this for inktober, but promptly got sidetracked by secret projects (see title, alice is indecisive and inconsistent). so i’ll be returning to it, and the inktober prompts, for nano instead.

i completed both camp nanos this year with til morning, so i’m hoping it can power me through this month, too. plus, til morning is set around this time of year so i’m feeling extra inspired.
