IN CONCLUSION: oooooh you want to change to firefox so badly, you want to delete chrome and all the chrome clones that are actually just spyware and use firefox
HOW TO USE MOZILLA ADD-ONS ON YOUR PHONE
if you already use firefox on android, you'll know there are certain add-ons compatible with the app, some of them even being made just for the mobile version such as Video Background Play FIx. while most of them are pretty useful, some more specific ones aren't available on this version of the browser, but there's a way of getting some of them to work
you need to download the firefox nightly app, which is basically the same as the regular firefox browser but with the ability of activating developer mode. you can find how to do that here. once you've enabled it, you need to create a collection with all the add ons you want. i wouldn't recommend adding extensions if the creators haven't talked about phone compatibility, but XKit and Shinigami Eyes should work
also, don't tell the government this secret skater move, but you can try using both the regular firefox browser and nightly so you can have youtube videos in a floating box while you browse social media.
see? i can block this terf while Rick Rolling the people following this tutorial. isn't that tubular?
#zezo talks#firefox#internet safety#accessibility#id in alt text#this will get tagged as tf2 because mine heart desires and its mentioned like twice#tf2#long post#but it's worth it i promise#tumblr

No True Apple User (transcript of a Twitter exchange)
Benedict Evans: Different people prefer different trade-offs. The important thing is to understand that these are mostly trade-offs - and about one and a half billion people like the trade-offs that Apple makes
My reply:
Before Apple offered one-click opt-out from FB tracking in iOS, it could have been argued that Apple users like Facebook's "trade-off." After all, they all signed up for FB and kept using it. But once there was an opt-out for surveillance, >96% of Apple users took it (and FB lost $10B in the first year).
FB offered a bargain, and Apple helped its users make a counteroffer. That's a common practice in tech, as old as the first third-party drive for an IBM 360.
This practice (“adversarial interoperability“), greatly benefited Apple in the past, e.g., when Apple reverse-engineered MS Office's file-formats for iWork, reversing losses due to the poor compatibility between Win Offce and Mac Office.
MS would have argued that the legions of users defecting from MacOS for Windows in order to enjoy high-reliabliity interchange between Office docs preferred that trade-off - yes, users liked MacOS, but they liked reliable collaboration more.
iWork revealed this trade-off for the false choice it was: you could use MacOS and you could reliably exchange files with Windows users.
In other words, you could bargain.
Trade-offs without bargaining don't reveal users' preferences (what they'd like in the best of all worlds). Rather, they tell us about users' tolerance.
Users would tolerate Windows as a condition for reliable collaboration. They'd prefer MacOS and reliable collaboration.
iOS users would tolerate Facebook spying on them via their iPhones, but they'd prefer to use Facebook on iOS without being spied upon.
Which explains why FB has gone to such enormous lengths to present take-it-or-leave offers to its users - it knows that the company's preferences are totally disconnected from its customers' preferences.
FB would prefer to spy on you with every hour that god sends, and make this surveillance a precondition for participating in the community, family life, civics, and commerce that lives inside its walled garden.
FB users would like to do all those things...and not be spied upon.
And because it is always technically possible to make tracker-blockers, ad-blockers, alternative clients, etc, the only way FB can win that contest is to make it illegal for users to get their way.
For example, FB can entice, funnel or coerce its users into primarily interacting with its services via apps. Because apps are encrypted, they can't be lawfully reverse-engineered and altered without risking "anti circumvention" liability.
You can make an ad-blocker for the web because you don't need to bypass a technical protection measure to block web-ads. But do the same thing for apps and you risk a 5-year prison sentence and a $500k fine.
Apple is an enthusiastic proponent of this regime, because it's the primary means by which the firm prevents third parties from offering rival app stores.
Apple's argument is that having a legal right to decide which software its customers can install allows it to act as its customers' proxy. If Apple can override the choices made by its users, it can prevent them from making bad choices.
Moreover, Apple can bargain with large firms whose take-it-or-leave-it offers would otherwise impose hardship on its users. An individual user who objects to FB spying is out of luck.
But Apple can say to FB, "We have blocked spying, and your only choice is to leave the app store altogether, or suck it up." In other words, Apple can give FB the same take-it-or-leave-it treatment that FB imposes on 3b users, which is a delicious irony.
Hearing FB squeal that Apple is exercising its market power - derived from the fact that billions of people can only be reached by subjecting oneself to the conditions of Apple's walled garden - to harm FB's interests is such a sweet bit of comeuppance.
But the sweetness has a bitter core, because Apple also spies on iOS users, even those who opt out of app-based surveillance, in exactly the same way that FB does, for exactly the same purpose (ad targeting) - and they deceive their users about it.
And, like FB, Apple devotes enormous lobbying efforts and legal resources to increase the legal risk of allowing users to express their preferences (as opposed to just their tolerance) for Apple's trade-offs.
If Apple users preferred to be shut out of shopping around for app stores, or if they preferred to only get their devices repaired at official, Apple-sanctioned repair depots, or if they preferred to be blocked from using refurb parts, Apple wouldn't have to do anything. It could save millions of dollars in engineering and legal bills.
But Apple behaves as if it believes its users strongly prefer to have more choice, even if they'll tolerate less choice.
Now, there's a "No true Apple user" rejoinder to this argument: "You knew when you bought an iPhone that it came shackled to Apple's commercial imperatives, which could be enforced through legal action by wielding the DMCA, patent, copyright, CFAA, tortious interference, etc. If you didn't like it, you could have bought an Android device, or no device at all.“
But that same argument can (and was) made by FB, to Apple:
"Those users for whom you blocked our surveillance knew the deal: sign up for FB, get spied on. No one forces anyone to sign up for FB. You can use Mastodon. Or you can just use FB on the web only, and run tracker/ad blockers. They may have preferred surveillance-free socializing, but they tolerated the 'trade-off' of being spied on."
Apple has repeatedly demonstrated that it is an imperfect proxy for its customers' interests. And Apple behaves as if it believes that its users strongly prefer a different trade-off, and takes heroic measures to prevent anyone from doing unto Apple as Apple did unto MS and FB.
Firms are neither intrinsically good, nor are they intrinsically evil. They respond to incentives and constraints. The possibility that users might bargain back against a proposed trade-off makes those proposed trade-offs fairer, on average.
If a firm knows an obnoxious course of action will trigger users taking a step to block, reconfigure, or modify some or all of its products and service, it has to weigh those costs against the expected parochial distributional benefits from imposing bad trade-offs on its users.
Firms that aren't subject to discipline from user defection, modding, etc, are prone to folly - they arrogantly overreach. Users experience harms as a result, and it's only when those harms accumulate to the point where tolerance for the 'trade-off' runs out that the harm ceases.
Preferences are revealed by user conduct, sure - but the extent to which a preference can be revealed is limited by the extent to which it can be technologically expressed.
A world in which there are extensive legal restrictions on users expressing their preferences is a world in which successful trade-offs tell us little about users' preferences.
And a firm that goes to lengths to expand and invoke those legal restrictions tells on itself, revealing its own secret belief that it is imposing a trade-off on its users that the users would gladly jettison... if they could.
ETA: Evans replied:
Sending over two dozen tweets is not good faith engagement in a conversation - rather, this is what in other contexts is called a Gish Gallop.
Meanwhile, it's almost about FB and Windows. This is deflection and whataboutery. I made one very specific point about the trade-offs between security and flexibility on the iPhone. Those trade-offs are real - that is not debatable. The only debate is which to choose.

SO! Here is my lair;
Sockeye, on the right, is a Bambu Lab P1P, and Coho, on the left, is a Bambu Lab A1 with AMS Lite system! It allows me to print in up to four colors on the same print, which is radical! They needed designations in the app-and-program system I use to control them, so salmon species it is, haha! The foam-and-paver setup is to dampen vibrations, which makes for neater prints and cuts the print noise down; these guys can get LOUD, which is why they're banished to the basement.
Basically, the printer heats these strands of filament up until they're molten, then lays them down on the bed in tiny slices, cooling them with fans as it goes so the plastic doesn't run between layers. I usually print at 0.2 mm layer height, so that gives you an idea of how tiny these slices really are and why it takes a LONG time to print things, haha!
The A1 is a Cartesian printer, or "bed-slinger", which means the toolhead moves on the X axis, the printbed moves on the Y axis, and the Z axis is basically the toolhead rail which moves up and down... lots of moving parts! The P1P in comparison is a CoreXY printer, which has a toolhead that moves in the X and Y axes, and a bed that moves on the Z axis. There are trade-offs to each system, but I like them both for what I use them for!
There's a video of them in action.
I store my less-used tools on the teal cart, and my filament in those big tubs, which are absolutely JAM-PACKED with silica gel packets, haha. Gotta keep that stuff dry! PLA filament absorbs moisture really easily, and that messes up the print quality, so you wanna keep it as dry as possible.
Over here are my more commonly used tools and doodads! Clippers for removing supports from prints that need them, a bunch of little Allen keys, a bed-scraper and some cleaning tools I printed, a wire brush for cleaning the nozzles, and some spa day tools! Once a month, I use that canned air to clean out the nooks and crannies, clean off the rods and rails that everything moves on and re-grease them, check the belt tensions on everything and clean out my nozzles. It's a lot of work but it's better to do preventative maintenance than to have it break down on ya.
I also have a filament dryer (the round boi,) which can bake moisture out of wet filaments, and a heat gun, which I use to clean up prints that have gotten stringy. Wet filament CAN cause a print to look like a spider webbed it up, in which case, the heat gun will melt the little stringies back into the body of the print, which neatens it. Spare spools in the back corner in case I get an atrocious order that needs to be re-spooled onto something better (I printed a device called a Pastamatic that lets you re-spool filament, haha) and some spare beds!
The beds themselves are PEI, which is a material that has a MAGICAL interaction with the plastics used in printers; at certain temperatures, there's a reaction between the two materials that results in adhesion. But move away from that temp, and the adhesion fails. So I heat the beds to about 60 C for my PLA filament, and it sticks, but once it cools, I can just slide it off the bed. RADICAL. But having grease or debris on the bed will mess with the adhesion, so I scrub them down with dish soap and keep them clean with the IPA to maintain adhesion!
Software-wise, you manipulate models in a program called a slicer, which allows you to resize, designate colors to certain parts of the model, and generally just set up the print the way you like it before it's converted to a file format the printer can actually read.
CinderWing dragons are the BEST.
The cool thing about Bambu is that there's also a mobile device app that allows you to control and check on your printer from your phone! Very handy.
The hobby itself is front-loaded cost-wise; each of these systems was about $600 and I saved up for a bit to obtain them! But once you get things together, the filament isn't THAT expensive (unless you buy too much of it like I do.) The premium stuff is about $35/kg roll, and it's all downward from there. Typically, I pay around $22-25 for nice filament, and I can get like four full-sized dragons out of a roll.
If you're looking to get into the hobby, though, I'd say now is the time to start looking at printers; the Black Friday sales are revving up, and you can get a very nice single-color A1 Mini, the little brother of Coho, for about $200.
I don't print in resin because there's... a lot of prep work, mess, toxic materials safety, and the need for ventilation, which I don't have. Maybe someday!!!
Anyway... that's the printer shop!
#long post#dash stretch#it's an interesting hobby!!! a bit of a dissonance considering my career#but I do have to enjoy my time here#and I like the way peoples' faces light up when I give them something cool I made :)

Could you elaborate on how software is applied philosophy?
Software work ends up using and empirically testing a lot of the thinking and conclusions that get serious discussion in philosophy, or that would look like philosophy if generalized beyond software.
---
My go-to example of this, probably not the best example but it's simple and accessible, is "Chesterton's Fence", which is basically the idea that we shouldn't change something unless we understand why it is (or was) good/useful.
Outside of software, some philosopher named Chesterton popularized this idea like a hundred years ago with an analogy about a fence, and it has been discussed enough that today it still has an established name from that. People debate and hair-split when it applies and what other values/heuristics should take precedence. You can even find people arguing whether it's a good heuristic at all or always wrong.
In software, getting any real work done depends on already having a practical, working solution to this problem space. When you need to change code but you feel that desire to understand more of it first, or you want to get more testing with a new change before rolling into production, that's your brain already having a whole philosophy paper's worth of ideas expanding on Chesterton's Fence. When is it safe or an acceptable trade-off to proceed without learning more? Precisely what edge cases do you need to look into or rule out? What tests can take the place of needing to know the consequences? What design of my implementation or API can eliminate the need for code guarding against special cases?
---
So that's just one example, but I think this generalizes pretty well.
A lot of philosophy boils down to: how think, what's true, what do? The study of correct thinking, what we can know and how, and what we ought to do. (Logic, epistemology, and ethics.)
And in software, we use all those skills. If our logic is bad, we make more mistakes. If our ability to know what we know and how to verify truth of our ideas is bad, we'll make more mistakes. If we have bad ideas about how to make decisions, or bad skills at reviewing ourselves for errors in thinking and knowledge, we'll have more inefficiencies in our processes/workflows and be slower to improve. Very few activities have as tight/short/fast of a feedback loop between how your think and what results you get.
---
There is a lot of overlap in the mental skills involved in sound philosophical thought and coming up with good software designs for a given problem. In as little as I can claim to have done both, I seem to need mostly the same mental skills for them.
---
A lot of decisions and trade-offs in software have ethics impacts. We get a lot of personal freedom within our code that will have real impacts on other people - edge cases frustratingly unhandled vs handled in an intuitive and helpful way; errors silently swallowed or harmfully ignored or cryptically unadorned vs considerately detected before destructive actions and informatively wrapped before being shown; code left opaque and complected vs helpfully tuned to guide understanding and written so as to minimize what needs to be known or changed to work with any given spot. All that adds up to affect people, sometimes very significantly, wasting hours of work or losing data.
Two examples of that in one. Just the other day I helped someone save a lot of stuff they had typed from a website that got stuck in some state where their text was unclickable+unselectabled and covered by an overlay. Losing all that text and having to retype it would've been severely unpleasant, mentally+emotionally costly, and probably would've ruined an evening for at least one person. I was only able to help because I am fluent with web browsers' dev tools, so I was able to find the text box in the HTML inspector. I doubt the devs of either the web app or the browser dev tools had this particular situation in mind, but these were predictable ethics impacts on both sides - and besides ethics in general being a subset of philosophy, the thought shapes that enable you to automatically predict entire categories of impacts like those are also a kind of philosophy.
---
When you design a class hierarchy in code, or a database schemas, or a REST API, or just come up with a way to factor some logic into separate functions... you're doing ontology. And while the philosopher ontologist sees no real consequences if they get it wrong, you will feel the difference between getting it right and getting it wrong as the difference between a force-multiplier and an awkward hindrance - edge-cases and boilerplate elegantly become naturally unnecessary and more things Just Work "for free" when the abstractions and factoring and data shape are right for the problem. You're decomposing things into concepts and identifying relationships between them, and you're testing if the thinking you use to do that is actually good at distilling what's functionally important to the problem space. (This is why "naming things" is one of the "truly hard problems in computer science" - naming things well sometimes entails all the work of coming up with an ontology that's good for thinking about what you're doing, which also must map concisely and intuitively to a language like English.)
---
Sorry for the lack of cohesion/connectedness, this is just what I could think of / remember off the top of my head today.

Why Wix websites are an ideal way to get started online with a platform that will grow with you and offers a great framework to build your knowledge. What is Wix? Wix is a cloud-based web development platform that enables users to create, design, and publish custom websites without the need for coding skills. It was founded in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan. Wix is headquartered in Tel Aviv and is publicly traded on the NASDAQ. The company's CEO is Avishai Abrahami. Pros of using Wix include ease of use, customisable templates, a wide range of features and integrations, and affordability. Cons include limited design flexibility, limited functionality compared to other website builders, and limitations on the number of features available in the free version. Wix is a solid free website builder that’s perfect for anyone looking to create a professional-looking website. Wix has over 200 million users, making it one of the most popular website builders out there. What is Wix.com used for? It is a user-friendly platform that allows users to create a wide range of websites, including personal portfolios, online stores, business websites, and more. With Wix, users can choose from a selection of customizable templates, add various features such as forms, social media integrations, and blogs, and publish their website with just a few clicks. Here are some scenarios where Wix excels: Small to Medium-sized Websites: Wix is ideal for small to medium-sized websites that require a basic or intermediate level of functionality and design. Easy Website Building: Wix's drag-and-drop editor and wide range of templates make it easy for users with little to no technical expertise to build and launch a website. Ease of Use: Wix is known for its ease of use and user-friendly interface, making it a great choice for beginners and non-technical users. Budget-Friendly: Wix offers a range of pricing plans, including a free plan and premium plans at affordable prices, making it a budget-friendly option for many users. Wide Range of Features: Wix offers a wide range of features, including e-commerce, blogs, forms, and more, making it a comprehensive solution for many types of websites. Mobile Responsiveness: Wix's templates and designs are optimised for mobile devices, ensuring that your website will look great and be easily accessible on all devices. Fast and Reliable Hosting: Wix provides fast and reliable hosting for all websites built on its platform, ensuring that your website will be accessible to users at all times. These are some of the scenarios where Wix excels. Whether you're a small business owner, freelancer, or hobbyist, Wix offers a user-friendly platform and a wide range of features to help you build a professional and functional website. Building a website with Wix Here are the steps to build a functioning 5-page website on Wix.com: Sign up for a Wix account: Go to Wix.com and sign up for a free account. Choose a template: Select a template that best fits the type of website you want to create. You can choose from a wide range of templates in different categories, including business, personal, portfolios, and more. Customize your template: Use the Wix Editor to customize your template by adding text, images, videos, and other elements to your pages. You can also change the layout, colours, fonts, and other design elements. Add pages: To add pages to your website, click the "Add Page" button in the Wix Editor and select the type of page you want to create. You can add up to 500 pages to your Wix website. Add features: Wix offers a wide range of features that you can add to your website, including contact forms, blogs, online stores, and more. To add a feature, go to the Wix App Market and select the feature you want to add. Publish your website: Once you have finished designing and customizing your website, click the "Publish" button to make your website live and accessible to the public.
Optimize your website for search engines: Wix offers built-in SEO tools, but it's important to optimize your website further to improve its visibility in search engine results. This includes adding page titles and meta descriptions, optimizing images, and adding relevant keywords to your content. These are the general steps to build a 5-page website on Wix.com. Depending on the complexity of your website and the features you want to add, the process may take a longer or shorter time. However, Wix provides a user-friendly platform and a wide range of resources to help you build and publish your website with ease. Add comment forms to Wix By default, commenting on a Wix blog requires visitors to log in using a Wix account, Facebook, or Google. However, if the website owner has enabled the option for visitors to comment without logging in, then visitors can simply enter their name and email address and submit their comments. If you're a website owner using Wix and would like to allow visitors to comment on your blog without logging in, you can do so by going to the Blog Manager in your Wix Editor and selecting the "Settings" tab. From there, you can turn on the option for "Allow comments without logging in." It's important to note that allowing visitors to comment without logging in may increase the risk of spam comments and could potentially harm your website's reputation. Wix.com and SEO Wix has made improvements to its SEO capabilities in recent years, but it still has limitations compared to other website builders and traditional website development. Some of the pros of Wix for SEO include a clean and organized HTML code, built-in SEO tools, and the ability to customize page titles and meta descriptions. However, there are also some cons to using Wix for SEO, such as limited control over URL structure, limited ability to optimize content for specific keywords, and limited options for creating and optimizing landing pages. Additionally, Wix websites can sometimes load slower than those built with other platforms, which can negatively impact SEO. In conclusion, while Wix can be a good choice for basic SEO optimization, more advanced SEO efforts may require a more robust platform or custom website development. It's always a good idea to consult with an SEO expert to determine the best approach for your specific needs. What is Wix.com Premium Plan? What scenarios are there where Wix would be no good? Wix is a popular website builder that offers a simple and user-friendly platform for building and hosting websites. However, there are certain scenarios where Wix may no longer be appropriate for a project: Complex or Custom Websites: If you require a complex website with custom features and functionalities that are not available through Wix's platform, you may need to consider alternative solutions. Large-Scale Enterprise Websites: Wix may not be suitable for large-scale enterprise websites that require a high level of security, performance, and scalability. Advanced Customization: If you need advanced customization options and full control over the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code of your website, Wix's platform may not be able to meet your needs. E-commerce: While Wix offers an e-commerce solution, it may not be suitable for large-scale online stores with complex requirements and a high volume of transactions. Mobile App Development: If you need to develop a mobile app, Wix may not be the right solution as it is primarily focused on website building. These are some of the scenarios where Wix may no longer be appropriate for a project. However, Wix offers a wide range of features and integrations to meet the needs of most small- to medium-sized websites and businesses. What other companies does Wix.com own? Learn How to Add a Gift Card to the Cash App? Transfer Money From Gift Card?
Are you wondering can you transfer money from a gift card to your Cash App wallet? If so, you are not alone. While the service does not support direct transfers from store gift cards, you can use several other methods. Fortunately, some are free and don’t cost you a cent.
The first step to add a gift card to your Cash App account is to sign up for PayPal. You will then need to link your PayPal account to your bank. You may also want to sign up for Venmo. While both services allow you to transfer your gift card balances to your bank, they offer different features and require separate steps.
In addition to the above, you can transfer funds from your Visa gift card to your PayPal account. However, it’s unlikely that you will see any improvement in your balance from this simple step. One alternative is to use a prepaid debit card. This works by automatically deducting the purchase amount from your balance. However, some prepaid cards may charge a monthly fee. You can then reload your card for additional money.
As a final option, you can also check out the other options on the Venmo website. This service offers many other valuable features, including sending and receiving money via phone. If you want to transfer a large sum of money from your gift card to your PayPal account, you will need to do it correctly. This means that you will need to make sure you have the correct credentials, such as your PayPal username and password and your bank account information.
How to Transfer Money From Gift Card to Cash App?
Cash App is an innovative mobile payment service that allows you to receive and send cash using multiple methods. It’s an excellent tool for anyone looking to cash in on their gift card tidbits, and the process isn’t as complex as you might think. Several methods are available if you’re looking to transfer money from a gift card to your bank account. Some are free, and others may incur a small fee.
For example, you can transfer money from your Walmart gift card to your Cash App account without a visit to your local Walmart store. However, if you don’t have one nearby, you’ll need to buy a money order from your local grocery store or post office.
Alternatively, you can use the services of a third-party service that will send your funds directly to your bank account. These services may charge a small fee but are more convenient, and the transfer process is usually instant.
The best way to transfer money from a gift card to a bank account is to link the two using PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can sign up for one in as little as a few minutes. In addition, you can use general-purpose gift cards in the checkout process, and some stores even offer e-gift cards.
Another way to transfer money from a gift card is to sell your unused card for cash. Fortunately, plenty of sites will do the legwork for you, like Card Cash. Once you have your card, you’ll need to visit their website and select the best offers. You’ll need to provide your gift card details and agree to exchange rates before you’re paid.
Can You Transfer Money From Walmart Gift Card to Cash App?
