Concentrix Grows with BIG move to Arthaland's Cebu Exchange
In a groundbreaking deal, Concentrix, a global leader in customer experience (CX) solutions and technology and the country’s largest private employer, confirms its plan to further expand in 2023 with a big move to Cebu Exchange.
This strategic partnership with ARTHALAND will see Concentrix bolster its leading local presence by adding Cebu Exchange, a PEZA-accredited office development on track to be the largest Net Zero Carbon certified building in the Philippines. The expansion is expected to bring Concentrix’ site total in the country to 51, as the company remains committed to add more jobs as well as invest in superior and sustainable facilities for its growing staff.
Cebu City has become a popular location for businesses due to its highly skilled talent pool, superior regional accessibility, and more cost-effective alternative to Manila. In 2020, the city was named the 12TH most attractive BPO destination by the Tholons Global Innovation Index.
Cebu has always been an exciting market for the office sector, said Dom Fredrick Andaya, Senior Director of Office Services – Tenant Representation at Colliers. “Sixty percent of all provincial office transactions that we recorded in 2022 happened in Cebu, and a bulk of these were office lease transactions cornered by IT-BPM firms. Aside from the abundance of highly skilled workers, the availability of higher-quality buildings with sustainability features provides extra incentive for occupiers to locate and expand in the city. We are very happy and thankful to have facilitated this landmark partnership between Concentrix and Arthaland.”
As part of the deal, Concentrix will take up a total gross leasable area of 16,686.73 sq.m spanning multiple floors of operations in Cebu Exchange later this year. It is the largest commercial transaction and office take-up in Southern Philippines among comparable transactions of the same volume and requirements.
The partnership also underscores Concentrix's strategic Environmental, Social and Governance focus and Doing Right DNA, aligning with ARTHALAND’s sustainability development goals, where the welfare of occupants is of utmost importance. The wellness features of Cebu Exchange are a testament to Concentrix being fanatical in caring for staff.
Cebu Exchange's reputation for sustainability, an important factor in Concentrix’ choice of facility, is also reinforced by ARTHALAND's sustainability projects outside its developments. ARTHALAND has an ongoing sustainable public school rehabilitation program in Cebu Island, which includes fixing roofs and adding solar panels, repainting public schools with low-VOC paints, providing low-energy LED lighting, and rehabilitation of toilet fixtures.
"At Concentrix, we design, build and run the future of customer experience (CX). And as we continue to grow, we also reimagine the future of workspace – what kind of facility is needed by our teams today and those joining our organization tomorrow . We are thrilled to partner with Cebu Exchange in giving our teams the best sustainable and wellness-centered office space available in the market. Cebu Exchange’s energy-optimized facility not only supports our environment conservation goal, but also provides our people with flexible spaces to be creative and social. It is critically important for us to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of our staff while also being responsible for the health of our planet, As an industry leader, we proudly embrace the workspace of the future, today,” said Amit Jagga, SVP and Country Leader of Concentrix Philippines.
"We are delighted to welcome Concentrix to the Cebu Exchange. The combination of Concentrix's expertise in customer engagement and business performance, and Cebu Exchange's commitment to sustainability and wellness, is a powerful collaboration that will bring benefits to all stakeholders. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.” said Oliver L. Chan, Senior Vice President of ARTHALAND.
Cebu Exchange has been pre-certified LEED Gold from the U.S. Green Building Council, and has achieved the highest 5-Star rating for its design from the Philippine Green Building Council, and the WELL Health-Safety Rating 2022 for Facility Operations and Management through the International WELL Building Institute. It has also achieved EDGE Advanced Preliminary Certification. This certification validates that Cebu Exchange is designed to yield savings of 47% in energy, 68% in water, and 54% in materials’ embodied energy compared to a conventional design in the country.
Through the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment of the World Green Building Council, ARTHALAND has pledged to decarbonize 100% of its portfolio by 2030. ARTHALAND is the first real estate developer in Asia to do so, and the first signatory from the Philippines. For more information, you may visit Cebu Exchange along Salinas Drive (in front of Cebu I.T. Park), Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines, email [email protected], or visit www.arthaland.com.

WEEKLY JOURNAL #2
As the world population increases rapidly, one of the biggest challenges is how to ensure food security, without setting aside long-term sustainable development. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States (FAO, 2014), food production is needed to develop by 70% in order to feed the world population which is anticipated to reach 9 billion by 2050 (Kiaya, 2014).
The anticipated food shortage triggers the agricultural sector to face these challenges, and consider feasible solutions that guarantee the continuous food supply for everyone. In the Philippines, farmers are also faced with the challenges of drying crops. One of our teammates saw a photo on Facebook of the difficulties that are faced by our famers. There are still a lot of Filipino farmers who are struggling to get by, especially with the low income, high demands and day to day challenges.
As you can see on the figure above, the time it took to dry these crops was just soaked by the rain in an instant. All of these difficulties and many more are faced by our hardworking farmers every day. Thus, our group then discussed different methods or ways that can help our farmers. After much delegation, our group was able to come up with an idea which was the solar dryer.
As a result of this issue, we aimed to produce an Enhanced Multi-crop solar dryer with salt as a hygroscopic medium. In turn, this product will help those who are in the agricultural sectors especially those involved in drying their goods. Specifically, this will help farmers or companies that are in need of an alternative way of drying effectively and efficiently their crops and other plantations. The following figure below is the design we've made on our solar dryer.
Since we have already planned out the solution to the problem of our local farmers, we have developed a Business Model Canvas in which the hypotheses of how we create and deliver value for the business and the customer are laid out. A business model is best described through nine basic building blocks that show the logic of how a company intends to make money. The nine blocks cover the four main areas of the business: customers, offers, infrastructure, and financial viability. The nine building blocks are: Key Partners, Key Activities, Key Resources, Value Proportion, Customer Relationship, Channels, Customer Segments, Cost Structure and Revenue Streams. Each of it was planned in the upcoming defend this Oct, 21, 2021.
What contribution will you make to the market? This was a self-reflection inquiry. Throughout product development, each path to a final product is distinct, and each industry has its own set of oddities to contend with while creating something new. I realize that if you're having problems figuring it out, keep in mind that every product before yours had to overcome similar challenges. By following these steps as you go through your own product development process, we believe you will be able to break down the intimidating task of bringing a new product to market into more achievable stages. Therefore, no matter what project you're working on, you can ensure success by doing all of the necessary research, planning, prototyping, sourcing, and pricing.

Things To Remember When Installing Solar Systems
As you know electricity price and other fuel sources getting high as the resources, they completely depend on diminish, some are looking onward eco-friendly power sources that can be kept by just one home owner to assist both the wallets and the environment.
While some other types of green energy are available on the industrial level, the simplest method to transition to an eco-friendly electricity resource on a limited budget is to spend in solar power offered by Solar system providers. Lots of electricity can be manufactured from sunshine by a procedure known as solar photovoltaic. It can simply make enough energy to handle different needs of home owner. Any home can be managed with solar panels offered by Solar financing companies, but completely depending on the amount and the location of sunlight the area gets while decide whether it is the best choice.
Solar energy offered by Local solar companies will not fully eliminate reliance of a consume on an electrical grid but still it is an excellent way to save good money. For some houses that live in a respective area that get enough amount of sunlight, costs of electricity can be reduced substantially and can be installed with simplicity. To start the process of arranging solar panels from Solar companies in Indonesia it is a wonderful idea to first contact the electrical firm. When you are arranging solar panels, still the electrical grid is utilized, but just for some days when there is lower sunlight. As an additional bonus to being associated to Solar companies in Malaysia, any surplus electricity that the solar panels make can be sold back again to the electrical plant impacting in more money which pays for the investment.
After discussing with the local Solar companies in Philippines, the important step is to search a nearby retailer. Almost every big area which gets sun has a company which exclusively deals with the selling as well as installation of panels. Though, if an area doesn’t have an instinctive solar panel store, ordering online is a wonderful alternative. For those with Solar companies in Thailand, offer them a call and they would be capable to assess the roof as well as house location to get best electricity from the sunlight, and would start planning the installation from there.
When Solar companies in Singapore has decided the best arrangement for the household, they would set a date to install the solar panels. A qualified professional’s team would work with your Solar companies in Vietnam to get a modified power box which is highly compatible with a new system. Once the power box is configured properly, the panels are all set to be installed. This procedure can take some hours to some days, but when the solar panels are configured and installed, they would last a lifetime. Once you are thinking about solar panels installation, confirm to weigh the positive eco-friendly and budgetary advantages against the effort as well as process of applying a system.

Solar Power in Cold Climates: Addressing Common Concerns
It's 2024, and nations worldwide are slowly starting to realize that we are starting to deplete our reserve of natural resources and that too at an alarming rate. This is why the focus on adopting solar energy is more prevalent than ever.
However, one common concern people have is the functionality of solar in cold climates. This is because solar power in cold climates can come with its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
Thus, in this blog post, we shall dive into the common concerns surrounding solar energy in chilly environments and explore how solar technology is paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.
How Do Solar Panels Perform In Cold Weather?
Most people believe that solar panels are inefficient in cold weather. However, contrary to this popular belief, solar panels can perform more efficiently in colder temperatures.
This is because the photovoltaic cells that make up solar panels produce more electricity when it's chilly outside. This is because colder temperatures enhance the conductivity of the materials within the panels. This allows them to convert sunlight into electricity more effectively.
Moreover, solar cells work due to the presence of sunlight, and the surrounding temperature is irrespective of their efficiency. Thus, cold temperatures won’t have any effect on solar panel efficiency.
However, at temperatures below minus, the efficiency of panels might decrease a bit as solar panels work best at temperatures above freezing.
Moving on, let’s discuss some tips to maximize solar panel efficiency in cold weather.
Tips To Maximize Solar Panel Savings In Winter
If you want to ensure your solar panels are working optimally in winter, try implementing the following tips.
Regular Cleaning
Try to keep your panels clean at all times to ensure they absorb the maximum amount of sunlight. Make sure you remove any debris or ice that might block the surface of your panels.
Titled Mounting
Make sure your solar panels are installed at a tilted angle, as any snow or debris that falls on them can automatically slide away.
Battery Storage Solutions
In places that witness temperatures below freezing, investing in battery storage solutions can be a good idea. This will allow the solar panels to store excess energy when the temperature is warm and the solar panels can’t produce optimal power.
Professional Servicing
You should also try to get a professional inspection of your solar panels to identify and take care of any issues that might arise with your solar system.
Invest In Modern Solar Panels
You must invest in modern solar panels with advanced features like improved temperature durability and anti-reflective coatings. These types of enhancements will maximize your solar panel’s potential and maintain their efficiency in cold weather.
Final Thoughts
We're all in for a greener future, and it's important to clear up some misunderstandings about using solar power in cold places. Thanks to new technology, smart designs, and helpful policies, solar energy is now a great choice, even in chilly areas.
So, if you are enjoying the sun's warmth on a chilly winter morning or are huddled up under your blanket on a freezing winter night, you can rely on solar power to keep you cosy.

That’s right, their coin is incredibly inexpensive in comparison to most other coins out there. Bitcoin for example trades at ¥65,366.84 at the time of this writing, and Ethereum, trades at around ¥1,362.76.
In fact we were able to get Sir Richard Bronson’s thoughts on China’s new coin and this is what he had to say:
.right-top-img{ float:right; width:120px; }
Sir Richard Bronson’s states: "Anytime a major corporation announces even a small partnership with an individual cryptocurrency that coin's value skyrockets. I can't wait to see what happens when a government officially adopts a crypto. When the name of China's coin is released many people will become millionaires practically overnight."
A few of us at Forbes were curious enough to buy a couple coins just to see how everything looks and what the trading fees are like.
It was fairly easy to get the coins, but I will show you the whole process below for those that are interested.
First step was to fill out all the details. As you can see, nothing complicated so far.
Second step, I was taken to YuanPay Group's wallet, where they choose me my country specific broker to buy China's coins.
Third step, I was taken to purchase page and had to fill out my details.
For ¥1,921, I received 21,375 coins at ¥0.12 cents each. You can see current value of my coins on the same page. PS: As a early investor they gave me 5,367 extra coins for free!
The whole process was simple and I even received a phone call from one of YuanPay Group's friendly agents, but I didn't really need any help as the whole process was easy enough.
After finishing this article, literally around 4 hours, I checked my wallet again and to my surprise:
In only 4 hours, the price increased from ¥0.12 to ¥0.31. At this point, I was positively surprised. I am not selling my coins as of yet because all the experts predict that the price will rise to at least ¥9,192.63 per coin in matter of months.
YuanPay Group was kind enough to give us a 100% accurate coin movement price counter, so everyone can see the increase directly on this page.
Official price currently
1 coin = ¥0.33
(Note - price is being updated every 30 minutes)
With a story of this nature news seems to be breaking every so often, we’ll be sure to update the story as needed.

Bataan and Corregidor – Wargaming!
As promised, I am finally at the part we’ve all come for—the wargaming. I wanted to talk about some of the wargaming opportunities for the Bataan campaign, as well as the tools available to you to refight the campaign. Many of these games and figures I own (Bataan is a passion project of mine!). I am eager to share with you some of the opportunities and ideas on how to wargame the campaign in hex, counter, and miniature.
Hex and Counter
Bataan! – Compass Games (2010)
I own this game, and I must say, it’s a very solid simulation of the fighting on Bataan. It gets the feel of the fighting right and forces both sides to act within their historical limitations. The scenarios are also well crafted, and I would encourage anyone who’s interested in the campaign or just likes a good wargame to pick this up! Thus far, this has been the best game on the subject. My only gripe? I wish they’d included Corregidor.
You can get a new copy from Compass here for $62.00, not including shipping, of course. But it’s well worth your time, and it’s a fun, fast play with very solid design decisions!
1942 – Game Designers Workshop (1978)
This game is not bad as games go, and it’s not just about the defense of Bataan and Corregidor, but the strategic problems faced by Japan and the Allies at the opening of the Pacific War. The game is a bit bland, but for 1978, it was state of the art, and Marc Miller did a pretty good job laying the framework. It’s currently out of print, but you can find it for sale on eBay for about $20-25.
The Damned Die Hard – Games Research/Design (1999)
This was a surprise when I found it cheap in a flea market. It’s the Pacific continuation of the old GDW Europa series, and its scope is the entire Philippine Island chain. I like it because it really confronts the Japanese player with the time and supply constraints that were present historically. You must win quickly as the Japanese, or not at all. Moreover, one of the scenarios is counterfactual of what if the Philippines had more time to prepare for the Japanese onslaught. I have not played that scenario, but it would be a fun one to explore! It even has its own Bataan scenario on a separate map! Not bad for the value!
You can find the game currently with Games Research/Design for $65 here.
Bushido Denied – High Flying Dice Games (2000)
I don’t own this one. I like the premise that it includes Corregidor as well as Bataan. It appreciates how much of a slog it was for the Japanese, and the price isn’t bad either at $20.95! You’ll have to pay an extra $5 for mounted counters, but I don’t find that all that bad! $25 for a wargame these days is a bargain, and I will probably break down and buy it.
You can order it here.
Miniatures
Miniatures options for the campaign are plentiful for the Americans, Philippine Scouts, and Japanese, but not so much for the Philippine Army. I know Eureka miniatures makes them in 15mm, but that’s the only company I know who makes them in any scale. That said, there’s plenty of ways to convert them, such as head conversions with any sort of brimmed hat or German DAK solar helmet heads? I suppose those might work.
That said, there’s still plenty of scales to choose from and notes out there on how to carry the campaign off in miniature.
Let’s discuss some of the more popular scales!
15mm
As discussed, there’s quite a lot out there in 15mm for both sides. Eureka makes both Japanese and Americans (they’re marketed as Marines, but they’ll work for either service), as well as the Philippine Army with rifles. Heck, they even make the cavalry figures for the 26th! The figures average about 6-8 figures a pack and run about $1 a figure. While Eureka is in Australia, they have a Eureka USA branch, whom I order quite a bit of my 20mm World War II from, and they are good gents to deal with.
Another source for Japanese miniatures is Battlefront’s line of 15mm for Flames of War. While they’re a bit pricy and bigger than most folks’ lines, you’ll find them in just about every hobby shop that has Flames of War figures. I think they match well with Eureka, but as I don’t know 15mm well for World War II, I welcome comments on that score from our readers.
Another source for smaller and more in-scale with Eureka Japanese is Old Glory’s Command Decision line. Old Glory packages their figures in 50 figure bags, and the sculpts are 80s chic, so not quite state of the art. But if you want big Japanese armies quick, and with all the equipment you will ever need, it’s not a bad way to go.
20mm
The sad part is, 20mm used to be the go-to scale for the campaign. There were tons of manufacturers for 20mm figures for the early Pacific War. Sadly, that herd has thinned a bit. I bought most of my early war Americans during that heyday, and with a bit less out there now? I have a collection left half-finished in many ways. And will someone please make Philippine Army figures in 20mm!
What is out there, though, isn’t half bad at all! First, there’s Early War Miniatures in Britain. I am rather happy with these figures. They’re the old Skytrex line, and their figures fit in with my old American Hinchcliffe and Platoon 20 figures. The Americans have some nice gear, including the 26th Cav figures on horseback (the only manufacturer that makes them in 20mm). For the Japanese, they make just about everything, and you can buy single figures as well!
Ehliem also makes a small line of 20mm figures of Americans for early war Pacific. They’re part of the old Sergeant Major Miniatures line, and I liked their line and wished I’d gotten more. I also hope Matt releases the rest of the line at some point.
As for other sources for Japanese, you can find some nice figures from Eureka, Grubby Tanks, and Simon’s Soldiers. I also recommend the 1/72 Scale Miniatures Company, as they are branching out into early War Pacific as well. They’re not doing the American or Philippine Army just yet, but their Japanese look amazing, and they have a ton of suitable terrain.
Another option in 20mm is, of course, plastic. The Russian figure company, Strelets, makes some serviceable figures in soft plastic for early war Americans. There are two packs, and their write-ups on Plastic Soldier Review can be found here and here.
28mm
There have been some exciting developments for those that want to game Bataan in 28mm. It used to be you had to do a lot of conversions to make Americans, let alone the Philippine Army. But now? Company B has released an entire line of 28mm figures and vehicles for Bataan! Their line of Japanese isn’t so complete, but you can supplement it with other companies.
One of those companies I recommend is Warlord Games. Their figures are for their rules, Bolt Action, but you can use the figures for whatever rules system you choose. They’re hard plastic for the most part, and they’re easy to convert and paint. And, for about $50, you can get a nice starter army. There was even an article on how to construct an American force for Bataan for Bolt Action.
Some other great sources for Japanese are Eureka and Empress Miniatures. I can also recommend the Berlin or Bust range of Japanese from Old Glory.
Terrain
Terrain for Bataan is tricky but doable. You’ll need lots of hills and tall grass, as well as more than a few dense jungle forests. The open areas were not plentiful and were usually part of a village or some farming community. Much of the jungle can be found cheaply, depending on your scale, by hitting the aquarium section at your local pet store. Many of the smaller aquarium plants will do well for bamboo stands. Simply glue them to an old CD, flock the CD, and voila! Instant bamboo stand.
As for the small villages, there are two manufacturers I can recommend. One is Sarissa. They’re easy to assemble, and they’re sturdy, being made from MDF cardboard, so they’ll hold up under years of gaming! They come in 28mm, 20mm, and 15mm, so pick your scale! (Incidentally, they make Japanese landing craft, another plus for Philippine games.) I have several of their products, and I recommend them highly.
Rules
Rules to do Bataan are out there. It really depends on how big a game you want to do and what level you want to do it at?
Two rules sets that are commonly available today that I recommend are:
Battlegroup World War II – As a rule set, Battlegroup is scalable for a variety of actions for everything from squad level-to battalion-level actions. The rules are smart, intuitive, and a lot of fun to play. They focus on playing like the history we love to read. It’s why they’re my go-to rules. Now, while they recently released a Pacific book, they structured it for Late War Pacific, but I am sure early war lists will be released soon (Hmm, perhaps I’ll write the darn things!)
Bolt Action – While some decry it as “Warhammer World War II,” it has a simplistic appeal that runs a good game you can finish in a few hours. The mechanics are simple, and once you have the main rules book, the rest is optional. Warlord Games has a ton of support out there for every period of World War 2, even Bataan.
Further Reading
I wanted to conclude this article with some further reading for you to learn more about the campaign, these three books were of a huge help in writing this series, and I wanted you to find out more, so much more than the surface we’ve scratched here.
The Fall of the Philippines – The War in The Pacific – US Army in WWII Green Book Series, Morton, Louis, US Army Center for Military History, 1989
The Fall of the Philippines 1941-42 – Osprey Campaign Series No. 243, Chun, Clayton, Osprey Publishing, 2012
Last Stand on Bataan – Kolakowski, Christopher, Mcfarland, and Company, 2016

Jimin’s one of those things, but, to Yoongi, it ends up that Jimin goes beyond than just being a prized possesion. Taehyung believes his hyung’s better than that.
「 ao3 | mobile m.list 」
[ part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | wip ]
“Don’t screw this up, okay?”
Yoongi hisses in annoyance at Hoseok’s warning, watching his new found acquittance fix his suit as the elevator doors close.
“What do you take me for?”
Hoseok scoffs at Yoongi’s genuinely irritated tone and snatched his suit of his right-hand man standing behind the two of them. Kim Namjoon, Yoongi remembers clearly, inmate #612004. Out of everyone in there Yoongi hated Namjoon’s guts the most, but the guy ended up as a henchman of the spoiled brat he used to gang up on.
“You? You look like a disaster ready to happen”, Hoseok comments in carefree manner as he buttons his suit nicely, “It won’t be pretty, though.”
Yoongi stared at Hoseok’s smug grin and watched him step out of the elevator as soon as the doors opened with Namjoon closely behind. Yoongi fixed his own suit and gained himself while his own henchman held the door for him. Taehyung was good at keeping his professional facade - sometimes -, although he could be a total pain-in-the-ass most of the time.
“Shall we go now, sir?” Taekhyung asked holding the elevator’s doors open with one hand while holding the duly locked suitcase with the other, all the while Yoongi regained some composure before stepping out of the enclosement.
After being in jail for such a long time, he’d rather not stay in places that resemble that hole. What if he has a bad temper? There’s so many people worse than him that deserve the solitary a whole lot more than him.
Namjoon opens the double doors for them and the room behind those doors seems like another world. Somewhere even detached from the hotel it’s in. Everything inside is shiny and shockingly expensive, the people inside are dressed as the finest, most arrogants pricks Yoongi has ever seen in his life.
If they met any other day, in any other way they would pass by and not even dare to step on him, like the dirty rug they’d probably consider him as, but, from today on, things are different.
Yoongi doesn’t mind the doors closing behind him as he follows by Hoseok’s side, his golden ticket in the form of a sick a-hole. Hoseok was the reason Yoongi thought that if fuckers like him - Hoseok, that is - can make it, then, “why can’t I?” So, it just seems right to use no other than him to get where he wants.
After a round of being introduced to people he never even heard off, but had the high profiles he does know bowing their heads to them and indulging conversations here and there he finds himself in an interesting circle.
“Dad. This is Min Yoongi.” Hoseok introduces.
“The kid who watched your back in prison?” The old man smiles and lays his heavy hand on Yoongi’s shoulder with an empty smile, “Thank you. My son is too spoiled, he wasn’t made for that kind of place.”
Yoongi bares a smile to the old man.
“Ah, no need to thank me, sir.” Yoongi says in a respectful tone.
“Hoseok! Make sure you stick by your friend’s side since you got him here.”
“Why me, dad? You got this wrong,” Hoseok says with one of his eyes-smile that could fool anyone, “Actually, today, he dragged me here.”
Yoongi could throw Hoseok a glare for the shameless lie, but was too busy making and covering it up for him.
“I’m really thankful for being invited today, sir. It is an honor to be invited to join such a selective party.”
Yoongi says respectfully yet again, pretending to not see the way the old man throws his son a confused glance as he bows his head right before sticking his hand inside his jacket to reach for one of his business cards. The old man takes it and reads it briefly before passing to his assistant.
“Yoongi here is the founder and CEO of an exporting company,” Hoseok explains, “It’s recent, but it’s being extremely successful. You signed the contract last week, you don’t remember? He’ll be dealing with our goods from China and the Philippines.”
Yoongi watches the stern look on the old man’s face that sends shivers down his body, Hoseok doesn’t seem to get affected at all or so he thinks. A nudge on his foot makes Yoongi jolt and immediately calls Taehyung over.
Taehyung immediately comes closer and ceremoniously places the suitcase to Yoongi to open.
“This is a token of my appreciation, sir”
Just a quick look inside the suitcase makes the old man’s eyes sparkle and Yoongi hides a content smirk.
“I wonder how you got a hold of something so precious”, the old man says, now with an easy laughter and Yoongi shows a smile.
“I’m glad you can appreciate it, sir.” Yoongi replies and the old man nods firmly with a approving grunt.
“I’m the kind of man who likes to give gifts to their friends even better than receiving” The man says approvingly, “You seem to understand me.”
“Of course.” Yoongi replies.
“I’m counting on you, Mr. Min Yoongi.” The old man says as Yoongi closes the suitcase and it is dutifully passed to the old man’s assistant before being passed to someone else and be taken away before anyone could notice.
“I’ll do my best, sir.”
A moment later Yoongi rests on one of the sofas in a corner, dress suit buttons popped open as he sighs in relief. Hoseok plots himself on a armchair nearby. The party is still on, but on a different level and the two of them simply watch.
“You don’t use any of it? Really?” Hoseok scoffs.
“Are you crazy?” Hoseok asks, unbuttoning his own suit, “My dad would make sure I’d be your best harvest.”
Yoongi decides not to delve into this fantasy right now.
“I don’t get close to any of these strong shit” Hoseok says as he watches a woman stumble her way to the couch, “You should keep your head high. Don’t get yourself to use this shit.”
“Yah~ Who the fuck do you think I am?” Yoongi kicks a foot towards Hoseok and the other smirks as the woman settles herself by stradling some guy’s lap.
There’s a silence between them where Hoseok seems too busy lighting up his cigarette. Just a moment when Yoongi’s eyes caught on someone, two people actually.
“Who are they?”
Hoseok follows Yoongi’s eyes and chuckles around his cigarette.
“Ah, them. The twins.”
Yoongi frowns, following the couple. They didn’t seem all the different from others, but there was something about them that seemed like someone casted a spotlight on them and everyone else was just a shadow. Something about their presence that made others give them space to walk and talk, and stand close to.
“They- look nothing like twins.” Yoongi scrunches, “Are they even related?” Yoongi would throw a glance at Hoseok now but his eyes are just captivated by the couple, one of them more than the other.
“They’re not actually twins, but they’re one of a kind. Each of them.” Hoseok pauses to take a drag, “Solar used to own the most popular and high-profiled hostess club and restaurant branch in the country. Back then, she worked under the Red Dragon,” the woman walks away, but Yoongi’s eyes stays on the other, “Jimin- is the son of an executive who owed more than he could ever pay for. Long story short, Jimin paid his father’s dues himself.”
“Jimin?” Yoongi asks.
Hoseok hums around the cigarette, his lips curled into a smile as he sees Yoongi’s eyes.
“They are the best out of everyone in this room, no matter if you’re my dad or anyone else- no one here has more power in their hands. If you get to sleep with one of them, you’re the best. No one can touch you.”
Yoongi’s head quickly turns to Hoseok smug grin.
“What?”
“Oh. It’s true.” Yoongi looks at Jimin again. No matter how special he thought Jimin could be, he could never see this far. “Don’t go thinking you can charm him that easily. It doesn’t matter how much money you have.”
Yoongi pushes himself to the edge of his seat and looks back at the guy who looks young and rather naive compared to the picture Hoseok is painting of him.
“Who’s that?” Yoongi asks and Hoseok turns to look as well.
“Ah, that’s the director of KCIA. Some people think he’s sleeping with Solar, but he seems quite fond of Jimin too. Though, it might just be business- who knows?” Hoseok shrugs uninterested.
After a moment Yoongi glared at Hoseok and leaned back on his seat.
“Don’t believe me? Just ask anyone.” The ashes from Hoseok’s cigarette fly everywhere when he gestures exaggeratedly.
***
‘If money didn’t matter for Jimin, then what could?’ - Yoongi just kept thinking about it.
“Tae!” Yoongi called out from his office and Taehyung just materialized itself- well, almost, on the other side of Yoongi’s desk.
“Yes?”
“I need you to look into someone for me. I want you to find out what they like. Flowers, cars, a penthouse, a new liver, plastic surgery. Just anything.”
Taehyung frowns.
“Who?”
“Jimin.”
“Jimin who?” Taehyung tries again.
“You figure it out.” Yoongi orders, impatient, “He was at the party last night.”
“Ah, sure. That sounds- easier, I guess.” Taehyung says sarcastically, then stops, “Wait a- He? You said he?”
“Yes, he. Why? Gotta a problem with it?” Yoongi provokes and Taehyung shakes his head.
“No, you just doesn’t look like-”
“Don’t finish that sentence, you prick” Yoongi half-heartedly complains, “You should call me sir! I’m your boss.”
“Hyung!” Taehyung tries, approaching, “We used to be cellmates! We helped each other-”
“Just do as I say. You’re too problematic to deserve any special treatment for now. Just find him” Yoongi orders.
“But- Sir, is that anything I could use? A piece of info or intel?”
“That’s your job! All I know is that he came along with a girl named Solar last night. She seemed to have connections with Bang Yongguk and the Red Dragon.”
“Yamazaki? He passed on his Seoul branch to someone named Kai.” Taehyung recalls.
“Don’t get mixed up with them again. Didn’t you get in jail because of them? Your target isn’t the girl.” Taehyung sighs
“Okay, hyung.”
Yoongi hisses as Taehyung leaves the room.
***
There’s another party and Yoongi invited himself in. He roamed around for a bit and made his connections as he could, placed his bets here and there, all the while his eyes looked for this one person. But, it all seems useless, Jimin doesn’t seem to be anywhere. He even looked for him where the junkies are enjoying their high, but he’s not there.
“Taehyung. Let’s go.” Yoongi orders.
Taehyung follows Yoongi, opens the doors and accompanies him down the hall. Halting when the other does out of the blue.
Yoongi scoffs.
“I’ve been looking for you”
Taehyung felt a shiver run through him when he heard his adored hyung speak so velvety. He’s seen many sides of Yoongi, but he’s yet to get used to this one, apparently. Taehyung didn’t like how something twisted inside of him, something like disgust sent the food he ate earlier in the evening go all the way up his throat, while the blood pumping to his head caused a painful reaction he tried his best to ignore.
Taehyung sees Jimin’s trained eyes examine the man in front of him and whatever expression Yoongi was showing made Jimin smirk just the tiniest bit and shift on his feet with his hands shoved in the pockets of his dress pants casually.
***
“I heard a lot about you” Yoongi says once they’re alone at the hotel’s restaurant.
Taehyung’s at a nearby table drinking orange juice and glancing at the couple every now and then. Curious. Just curious.
Jimin quirks an eyebrow. He chose not to order anything and cut-off Yoongi when the waitress when she came by, dismissing her with so much as a short sentence that seemed to roll out of his tongue too easily, Yoongi noticed.
“I dislike guys like you the most,” Jimin said simply and Yoongi pretended to not be affected by it, Taehyung shifted on his seat, “I’m not interested in ex-cons and especially dislike lap dogs.”
“I might be an ex-con, but I’m not a lap dog.”
Jimin pouts and tilts his head as if he’s processing, innocently what Yoongi just said.
“Then, get rid of Hoseok’s protection. Until then, stop sending people to stalk me, it’s burdensome.”
Jimin stands up and leaves while Yoongi stays, staring at the empty chair across from him.
***
“Hyung,” Taehyung calls softly and by now Yoongi doesn’t care anymore what the younger calls him.
Taehyung wishes he could stop Yoongi. This is stupid. This is really stupid.

The Wandering Earth Review
My rating: 4.5/5
Best quote: Let’s light Jupiter up.
Man, what a fantastic film.
Here’s the setup: our sun is expanding and within a hundred years it’s going to swallow the whole solar system. Earth’s global community somehow puts its differences behind them and comes up with a comprehensive plan move, MOVE, the earth from its current orbit to another system. This comes in the form of giant rockets propelling earth from orbit and everyone living in underground cities to compensate the ecological effects of said move. Ambitious AF this movie is.
So we’re introduced to our main characters, the handsome Liu Qi and his sidekick kid sister Han Duoduo. Mm, Liu Qi’s actor, Qu Chuxiao, is beautiful and I hope he’s in many more films. I digress.
Liu Qi is apparently a genius, he seems more like a moody teenage protagonist than anything at the beginning but calls himself a ‘genius’ enough you get the idea it’s probably mentioned for a reason. Kid sister on the other hand is basically there for cute support, I don’t consider that a bad thing since it helps humanize the cast.
Mr. Genius and his sidekick live with their grandpa in underground Beijing since their dad is an important astronaut on the global space station (in this universe there’s a United Global Government but countries still, I think, have some sort of autonomy? Film didn’t get much into that but everyone’s got a state flag on their uniforms). Genius decides to steal his grandpa’s vehicle pass and since kid sister wants to see the earth’s surface she comes with.
Genius is not the best at driving grandpa’s rig but he manages and they head out, kid sister’s amazed by all the ice and snow aaaand then they’re arrested for stealing a rig. They meet Tim in jail, a white chinese native. There’s a reason for this person, he literally does nothing useful but you’ll see why he’s there as they go along.
Grandpa’s called, he comes and gets the kids but in a convenient twist there’s a massive earthquake that breaks open their jail cell. Out of pity/human duty Liu Qi frees Tim and they hustle out of there and back to there rig where grandpa hauls ass back toward home.
At this time time we learn a bit about Liu Qi’s dad who is up in the space station observing all this and also learning that, as they’re passing Jupiter, there’s a very real chance Jupiter’s gravitational pull will drag earth in and bam, we’re all dead. Hey guess what, it’s happening!
Back on earth Team Get-Home-Now is accosted by the military because, for some reason, the grandpa is the best driver they could think of and they need him to deliver a ‘lighter cord’ which is what will relight Beijing’s rocket. When the earthquake happened it knocked out basically majority of the earth’s rockets and that isn’t helping the Jupiter situation. The Military, and all it’s counterparts around the world, are all trying to get these fuses to said rockets ASAP. “Why aren’t they stored right next to each thruster?” is a question I would say you’re not going to get an answer to so, don’t worry about it.
Team Military and Team Get-Home don’t particularly enjoy each other’s company but do their best to get the lighter cord to the nearest rocket. This involves driving rigs through an icy canyon of Shanghai which is definitely not a good idea. They barely make it through but grandpa dies in the process. Liu Qi and Han Duoduo are understandably upset. In grandpa’s final flashback we learn money is evil and he adopted Han Duoduo who was orphaned around the time Shanghai was swallowed by massive tsunamis (see consequences of stopping earth’s orbit).
Up at the space station everyone’s been forced into hibernation to save energy but Liu Qi’s dad thinks something’s wrong and breaks out of his hibernation chamber. The rest of his part basically deals with him battling an out of control space station AI and showing how friendly China and Russia are. Honestly, it works and I wish more propaganda was handled in this fashion. More on that later.
Back on earth Liu Qi and Duoduo (and Tim, yes Tim’s still there) head off on their own because um, Team Military basically helped kill grandpa. They end up tracking down a rig that sent out a distress call and it turns out it was another military team taking their own lighter cord to another rocket. Their rig crashed during the earthquake and only one person survived, the resident genius thankfully. Team Get-Home hop on board and decide to swing back to the military team.
Whoo boy, Team Military had a moment once Team Get-Home left. They’re fighting amongst themselves about the lighter cord and one of them, the girl of course, shoots the lighter cord dead because, in her words, ‘no more deaths’. Aka, she’s certain this cord is doing more damage than not. Everyone’s at their wit’s end about what to do.
Then Liu Qi shows up with a rig, they hash it out and mash into one super team. I’ll call them the Team Danger. Team Danger has to get the last lighter cord to the nearest rocket and now, but, word gets out that the rocket has had a meltdown and the entire city beneath it is gone, as is the rocket. It looks like a volcano. Team Danger doesn’t give up hope yet tho, they just change their destination to the Philippines because there’s a rocket base there that still needs a lighter cord. Cool!
They head there and fuel up at a supply station near Sulewasi (the base in the Philippines) and learn a few things: One, most rockets have already been turned back on (great!) but two, earth is definitely about to crash into Jupiter so hug your loved ones and say goodnight, no one apparently has hope anymore. In this moment there’s a lovely scene with Liu Qi, pissed off, looking up to the sky and seeing Jupiter’s looming presence. He hones in on the planet’s famous ‘eye’, a massive eternal storm, and has his genius moment: if we shoot into Jupiter’s atmosphere we can cause an explosion that will propel us away from Jupiter! I’m not a scientist but the idea sounds alright. I mean, it’s the end of the freaking world, let’s try any and all options.
Team Danger hashes out the logistics: they’ll still head to Sulewasi and use that rocket as their weapon, turn off the rocket to do some manual overrides, shove the lighter cord in and see what happens.
They get to Sulewasi and while everyone else is sad it’s the end of the world Team Danger is rushing in put their plan into motion. Han Duoduo gets on the global broadcast asking for help but nobody is listening, Liu Qi and Tim drive into the rocket’s reactor to deliver the lighter cord, Team Military is using all their manpower to pull the reactor’s ‘pin’ (but failing), and the rest are busy downloading new override commands. Liu Qi can’t get the reactor to open and take the cord, the override commands aren’t working, everything is at a halt. Another earthquake happens causing even more panic.
At a loss Han Duoduo calls the space station and reaches the only person on board not in hibernation—Liu Qi’s dad. She tells him the plan, he tells the United World Government and they’re like “yeah no, we already thought of this plan and it’s not gonna work”. He’s like *sigh* “it’s the end of the world, we have to try something” and government still won’t budge, but it does say they’ll broadcast Duoduo’s message. So, a tearful Duoduo pleads out to the world for help and wouldn’t you know it, helps finally arrives from all walks of life. See? She is the humanity piece of Team Danger.
Team Military receives help and can pull the pin, Liu Qi manages to unstick the reactor, Tim pulls him out just in time before he’s crushed, and the rest of Team Danger manages to load the override system. Everything’s shoved into motion, the rocket blasts out at Jupiter aaaand….
Is a couple thousand kilometers short of it’s target. So basically they just wasted all that time and effort to shoot at Jupiter and nothing’s happening. Up in the space station Liu Qi’s dad realizes there’s over a hundred thousand tons of fuel on board, detaches the fuel holding part from the rest of the station and dives head in to the storm. He and Liu Qi have a heartfelt conversation and he sacrifices himself for the greater good of humanity.
Surprisingly, this works. The beam from both the rockets and the space station exploding are enough to react with Jupiter’s atmosphere and cause a massive, I mean MASSIVE, explosion that propels a shockwave back toward earth. Everyone scrambles to hide underground, Liu Qi and his sister (and Tim) don’t quite make it but survive when the blast hits thanks to some handy tools.
Cut to three years later where things are just about the same as the beginning of the movie except Liu Qi is now a real driver, not just a moody kid, his sister is his driving partner, and one of the guys from the Military team is their new third wheel BFF. Tim and everyone else is seen living out their lives both in the underground city and above ground and it looks like we’re going to survive after all. The Wandering Earth plan is repeated and you have hope that maybe, just maybe, after a hundred generations the earth will settle at its new location.
First thought though: pretty sure we’ll run out of fuel before that happens, just from what we see of the rocket at Beijing it’s like they’re mining the majority of the earth around them just to keep it running. If there are thousands of these rockets and they all need that much earth to be powered, my assumption is we’d scrape the earth all the way down to it’s core before actually making it to our destination. Despite that, maybe along the way we’d come up with better ideas along the way?
Second thought: this film is produced, directed, and financed from China/Chinese backed companies. There’s nothing wrong with this, but I just find it interesting since it does it’s own propaganda in very different ways from what you would find in a US-backed project. While it’s very Chinese-centric it still portrays the whole world as working together and in doing so still manages to push a lot of diversity into its background plots. I highly appreciate that.
Beyond that, there’s never a point in the film where a single person carries the entire plot. The story only works with teamwork as its core value, everyone has to pitch in or else the world’s fucked. The only time it comes close to doing so is when Liu Qi’s dad flies into the beam to Jupiter. He only manages to do this however by killing the station’s AI and can only do this with help from his Russian friend on board who died in the process of figuring out what was going on with the hibernation. No one is a single hero, everyone is. That’s propaganda in itself but it’s also true: one single person is not enough to do everything.
Then there’s Tim. Why is Tim in this movie? At first I assumed he was the token white guy to appeal to an abroad audience but you begin to see through the film he serves two purposes: one, yes, to appeal to the abroad audience, but also to further that Teamwork-is-Everything point. He’s totally useless on his own but he never once abandons the team. Furthermore, he does add diversity to the team.
Overall I greatly enjoyed the film. I thought it was very unique and had many actually plausible ideas and concepts in terms of the whole Wandering Earth project. Again, I’m not a scientist but some of the ideas seemed at least reasonable. What did make me sad however is I’m very, very sure none of this would ever happen. No, not the part about the sun expanding and such, that part’s true and it will happen in several million years (very slowly, don’t worry). The sun’s expansion parallels with a lot of issues that surround climate change to explain why earth had to move. What’s unrealistic however, in my opinion, is the fact that the entire world decided to work together to actually pull this project off.
Maybe I’m cynical but you can’t convince me at this point that the human race didn’t just spend over a thousand years grouping themselves off and hating anyone that wasn’t part of their own group , only to suddenly change their minds when faced with the threat of total extinction. Do I wish that would be the case and everyone would set aside their manufactured differences? Hell yes, my hope would be to be proven wrong and see everyone suddenly working together for the race to save our own planet.
But…I mean, we can’t even slow climate change. We’ve known about climate change for over a hundred years and have done, essentially, nothing to curb it. Instead we’ve decided to be in denial and focus more on becoming nationalistic entities that would like to point out our differences more than point out the million more things in common.
So, I very badly wish The Wandering Earth universe existed in our own, maybe not the Wandering part, but the part where people would get along enough for a common cause to do what’s necessary to survive, not just for ourselves but for our planet and the other billions of organisms that live here.
To conclude, again, I loved this film. It made me cry several times and was so worth seeing. It has a lot of fantastical ideas and executes them on screen very well. Would recommend to anyone who likes sci-fi stuff, apocalyptic stuff, or just action/adventure in general.
Also, Qu Chuxiao is pretty handsome. He (and his dad, who’s actor is Wu Jing) are solid hunks. That’s just me though :)
