Damaged hair requires special care and attention to ensure that it not only looks beautiful but also remains healthy. If you’re looking for effective hair color solutions to revive your damaged locks, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some of the best options available, along with recommendations for top professionals in New York City.
Tumblr media
1. Balayage: A Gentle Coloring Technique
Balayage is a popular hair coloring technique that involves hand-painting highlights onto the hair. This method allows for a more natural and blended look, which can be less damaging compared to traditional foiling techniques. The best balayage colorist NYC has to offer can help you achieve stunning results while minimizing damage. Look for a stylist who specializes in this technique, as they will have the expertise to create a beautiful, sun-kissed look that enhances your natural hair.
2. Professional Color Treatments
If your hair is severely damaged, consider seeking professional help. A blonde specialist NYC can provide tailored treatments that focus on restoring the health of your hair while achieving your desired color. These specialists often use high-quality products that nourish and protect your hair, making it more resilient to coloring processes. Additionally, they can recommend specific treatments to repair damage before applying any color.
3. Deep Conditioning Treatments
Before coloring your hair, it’s essential to prepare it properly. Deep conditioning treatments can restore moisture and strengthen your hair, making it more receptive to color. Many salons in NYC offer deep conditioning services alongside coloring, ensuring your hair stays healthy. Ask your stylist about the best deep conditioning treatments they recommend, especially if you’re considering highlights or balayage.
4. Choosing the Right Shade
Selecting the right shade for your hair is critical, especially if your hair is damaged. Consult with a professional to find a color that complements your skin tone and enhances your overall look. Whether you’re interested in becoming a blonde or trying out a balayage, the best blonde colorist NYC can guide you through the process. They’ll help you choose shades that will brighten your appearance without causing further damage to your hair.
5. Regular Maintenance
After coloring, regular maintenance is vital for keeping your hair healthy. Invest in quality hair care products designed for color-treated hair. These products help maintain the vibrancy of your color while providing the necessary hydration and protection against damage. Many best balayage NYC salons offer product recommendations tailored to your specific hair needs.

Y seguimos para bingo...
S the Actor. S the Entrepreneur. S the Lover. S the Father. S the Manwhore. And now, S the Influencer. Yup.
Judging by the seriously beautiful pictures of the Insta story and the short reel he deliberately posted on his wall for maximum traction, it was a rather grand week-end in Nevis. My bet is on a latergram, somewhere between October 10 and October 19 (when we know he was in NYC): but hey, I was never good with timelines, unlike Marple.
What I can safely say, though is this: C was spotted in LHR on October 10 (Loewe Foundation event) and October 17 (Almeida Theatre depressing play premiere). Both falling, obviously, on a Tuesday.
I am just going to leave this here for your consideration:
Tumblr media
...knowing that as per the IATA's schedule regulations, we are still working with summer timetables (I have just double-checked with my mother, before the screeching starts).
Other quick observations: he apparently stayed in the Alexander Suite of the Four Seasons (https://www.fourseasons.com/nevis/accommodations/suites/alexander-suite/), judging by the bed headboard - perfect match:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All the other suites have different headboards, you can check by yourselves - quick example with the Chelanii Suite:
Tumblr media
So, let's see what's on offer:
Tumblr media
Also, smart move: sporting a cap indoors and ta-daa - impossible to look for haircut, in order to try and pinpoint a... ahem... timeline.
No rings on the beach...
Tumblr media
... and no rings inside, either:
Tumblr media
So, these are props he is playing (us) with, just like the Sybil of Tydavnet.
I left the best for the last, pour la bonne bouche, because I bet the farm y'all were busy checking hammocks and deckchairs and poke bowls (yum yum, heh) and didn't notice this tiny hashtag:
Tumblr media
I am off to get prepared for our Defense Attaché cocktail, on our National Army Day. A way more boring affair than the drama-drama I will step into when I'm back home, round 10 local time.
Toodles! :) Y chicas - os quiero mucho. You know who you are.

International Alliance of Superhumans [A WIP by Athens]
Tumblr media
Brigid crumpled the black mask in their hand, letting it catch fire as their anger flared. They knew it wouldn’t do anything. It was built to withstand their anger. They were built to withstand their own anger. “They lied to you like they lied to me.” Martin stepped forward cautiously, hands out, “…but we can make sure that they never lie to anyone again.”
General Information
Genre: Superhero fic, action POV: Third limited Setting: NYC, 2044, alternate earth where superhumans exist Content warnings: violence, injury, gore, death, family abuse (physical, verbal), alcohol (use)
synopsis, characters, and more below the cut!
Synopsis
Superhumans have existed as long as we have, normal people who suddenly develop seemingly magical powers overnight. That’s why the International Alliance of Superhumans was founded in 1945, to help control these superhumans to better humanity. Now, the Alliance’s ideals and control is falling apart, as the Underground and the Union threaten its weakening rule over the superhuman community.

Worldbuilding
Superhumans
As the introduction says, superhumans have existed as long as humanity has existed. Most major religions have some sort of explanation for why superhumans exist, but in reality, no one knows. The population of superhumans seems to be correlated to the human population, but the true number of superhumans is unknown. It is also unknown how the superhumans are selected, as most develop powers between the ages of 7 and 13. There are several records of powers and mantles being passed down through a family, such as Goldenson and Fireball.
Powers and Mantles
Powers are what make superhumans Superhumans. They vary from superhuman to superhuman, and many common ones are duplicated (like pyrokinesis). The options for powers are essentially endless, with the only primary rule being that the powers don't actually modify the appearance of the superhuman (like wings, horns, skin, gills, or anything like that). Mantles are a little different. Each superhuman, hero or villain, has a wearable mantle, which is tied to their identity as a superhuman. When activated, the mantle provides a costume for the superhuman, which can be changed via simply deactivating and reactivating the mantle with the intention of their costume being changed. Mantles are passed down from superhuman to superhuman; when superhumans die, their mantles (and associated powers) are granted to a new superhuman. For example, Fireball inherited the mantle and powers of Goldenson after his death. Occasionally, new mantles and powers will emerge with the growing human population. The true nature of mantles are not well understood, although in the modern day, microchips and other technology have been added by IASH and the Underground.
Superhuman Names
While superhuman names used to be chosen by the superhumans themselves, nowadays the process is controlled by IASH. Names are given to Alliance-sanctioned superheroes by the Naming Committee, which also changes the superhuman names of supervillains who are expelled from IASH. Modern superhuman names generally are composed of two words; those without a space are IASH superheroes, and those with a space are supervillains.
The International Alliance of Superhumans
After the use of superhumans in combat during World War II, and the human rights violations which occurred via said use, the International Alliance of Superhumans was formed around the same time as the United Nations. While IASH is not part of the UN, they have been granted police-like functions in most states which are members to the UN. IASH, in function, is a superhuman police government which spans international borders, and controls the superhuman populace. All superhumans are subject to register with IASH or be labelled as a supervillain. Supervillains are constantly under surveillance and attack by Alliance-sanctioned superheroes, although sometimes the lesser-supervillains are kept around for PR purposes and to make IASH look better. IASH has branches in most party states in the world, most often in populated cities. Some states, like China, the US, and Russia have multiple branches within their borders, while smaller countries like the Dominican Republic or city-states like Singapore only have one. IASH's current Chief Administrator (in the NYC Headquarters) is the formerly Welsh-based superhero, Meremimic.
The Underground
The Underground, founded in 2020, was the first true alternative movement to IASH. It was founded by ex-Alliance supervillains who felt wronged by their expulsion from IASH. Generally, the Underground is considered to be a more violent movement, although they spread their fair share of propaganda. Quantum Shift was the de facto leader at one point, before the organization was taken over by his student, Hueso Blanco.
The Union
The Union is a new movement, founded only in 2048 by the late-Blood Ruby. Unlike the Underground, the Union was founded by a mix of superheroes and supervillains looking to reform IASH.
Wesmoreland Private Academy
Wesmoreland is a prestigious boarding school, housing 6-12th graders. Mel, Brigid, and Madds attend currently. Val and Nikki are alumni. Owen Roberts is a major donor to the school and the single reason why Brigid has not been expelled for their violent behavior.
Status
Plotting. Previous drafts have been scrapped for good.
Further Commentary
IASH is another one of my older WIPs, and was tied closely to an old (toxic) friend of mine. It has taken me a while to rework it to something I enjoy, but this is approaching that final product. Unlike NYTF, IASH focuses on bringing down the "government", rather than trying to fix it. (They do fix it in the end). I will be adding more to the characters soon! I just wanted to get this out for Archie to see :)
Tag List (let me know if you want to be +/-)
(I pulled most of these either from the old IASH tag list or from the call post) @thetruearchmagos @fraugustends @wordswrittenbynight @missaddledmiss @from-the-depths-into-your-soul @rayesworld @susurrus-mxfluffy @serotoninshift @starlit-skys @guessillcallitart @circa-specturgia @whimsyqueen @elijahrichardwrites @imslowlydisintegrating @eli-writes-sometimes @hannahholowach46

Commander Erwin Smith and me aka Nabi Ackerman ~ sister of Lee-vee!! @octobernocturne :3 ~ a self-indulgent illustration to mark one year (April 28th, 2023) since I first dreamt of Erwy, hehe. 🤍
That was the dream where me and him worked on a court case together, and had good rapport between one another akin to Rachel and Harvey from The Dark Knight ~ which is funny, cos we used to say, "Oh, there's the Leon guy and Connell guy" about Levi and Erwin, cos Robbie had the Leon haircut years ago, and his author avatar works in the Knight Academy in MQ the webcomic with Connell who is our expy of Harvey from The Dark Knight and a real life neighbour we had at one point, but now Micky is Levi, and Erwin stands out on his own ... unless you count Erwin being an expy of Adrian Alexander Veidt aka Ozymandias from Watchmen, and me twinning with Erwin starting with his voice actor also being born on May 4th and Adrian's name being similar to my long-lost fictional twin brother, Alexander Adrian Amaranth, in MQ the webcomic ... then there's that. ^^;
Anyways, I'm glad I got Micky's input on what colours would work best in the background, cos I ended up lifting a photograph he sent me recently from the art gallery in NYC, and Micky said he loves it! =^-^= 🤍
(And, yesh, my hair in real life does look like Rogue from The X-Men, lololol)
~ ♡ ~
{Commander Erwin Smith (who, to me, is also Adrian Veidt aka Ozymandias since Erwin is an expy of Adrian) is my unofficial twin/boyfriend in dreams.}

I need to know your thoughts on the sequined jacket! (personally I’m not a fan 🙈)
Tumblr media
In the context of the premier, it’s perfect: the sequins on the jacket function as tiny firefly lights against the dark sky suit cloth, and the symbolism of the lights worked into the ensemble is so perfect I’m a little in awe. THIS is what the right clothes can do! Visual poetry.
Outside of the context of the premier,
I don’t love the pattern on the black shirt; it looks unnecessarily busy and is competing with the jacket fabric and sequin detailing. But, the jacket is so perfect, I’m willing to overlook it. And we know he likes those buttons undone! Let him breathe!
The pants are so normal I don’t know how Fabio convinced him to wear them, hahaha. Maybe a little long? I might have tailored them a little more at the ankle, but the waist and crotch tailoring are perfect.
The boots I have no strong opinion on; they are fine, and anyone should wear heels if they want to. High heels started as menswear so it’s weird we’re weird about them now for men. 2023 let's stop being weird about men’s shoes initiative.
I’m a fan of Pedro looking kempt so I love the haircut and facial hair styling here, as opposed to the press tour interviews look.
Tumblr media
Bella’s blush tuxedo was perfect for them, and their make-up was on point and minimally gorgeous. The white defining line on their eyelids is subtle but startling and offsets their gorgeous eyes. And together, Pedro's black and their blush complement each other beautifully. They both looked amazing, but standing together, they each elevated each other’s look. Again, this is what good fashion can do!
So I am going to give this an A+ premier look. One of his best. (Nothing so far has topped the Narcos S2 Premier in NYC. That one is still A++++)
Thank you for asking! I love talking about fashion!

PEGGY GOU - "(IT GOES LIKE) NANANA"
youtube
It's summer somewhere, and it's also 9PM somewhere.
[7.05]
Kat Stevens: Peggy's continued shameless tactic to lure me in with random snippets from Ibiza Anthems vol 1-4 mixed by Alex P & Brandon Block is absolutely working. [8]
Oliver Maier: Absolute head-empty stuff. Pretty 90s inasmuch as it sounds like "I Like To Move It" for a corporate boat afterparty. In, like, Dubai. [6]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: The kind of big dumb pop hit that feels all the sweeter after a half-decade of sophisticated, fashionable house music from Peggy Gou. Somehow, I feel like this is her true form -- a hook-focused trickster spirit hitting all the dopamine release points as quickly as possible. Everything else -- all the long-form odyssey-like qualities of her earlier work, all the couture and style and glamor -- fades away. In pop music -- and "Nanana" is excellent pop music -- all that is secondary to the sheer sugar-rush joy on display here. [9]
Crystal Leww: Peggy Gou has made something like five songs in like five years, and yet somehow her status in dance music is now enormous -- she regularly sells out massive crowds in at least three continents despite incredible price tags (her last NYC show was on a Wednesday and tickets were one hundred and forty eight American dollars each). Yet, if you've ever seen a video of Peggy Gou DJing, it's all cameras up, with no one seemingly doing any actual dancing except maybe Peggy herself. Her whole schtick is like the culmination of the blurring of lines between DJ and influencer -- it's seemingly just as important to be seen at a Peggy Gou show as it is to actually enjoy a Peggy Gou show. All this being said, all five or so of Peggy's songs sound so incredibly warm and timeless despite the fact that they are perfectly engineered to trend chase after all. "(It Goes Like) Nanana" hops on the trance and eurodance revival that's been percolating the last two years, with an unmissable ATB sample and yet unlike what it's ripping -- corny, goofy, silly -- it's engineered to be so cool, conjuring images of exclusive parties on yachts and perfect bob haircuts that cost $1,000 a pop. "It Goes Like (Nanana)" works because it gives anyone a chance to feel like they could be a part of that exclusivity - it's a song meant to played in rooms with wood paneling and on expensive soundsystems while twirling around in circles with your best friends. [7]
Nortey Dowuona: She used to be good, what the freak happened? Are we all so desperate to run back to 1985 just cause Studio Ghibli was founded that year? They're not shuttered yet! [5]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: Peggy Gou never changes, nor does she need to. [7]
Ian Mathers: She just doesn't miss! What's that? Lenny Kravitz? No idea what you're talking about. [8]
Scott Mildenhall: Finally, a song worthy of a one-hour YouTube loop. Peggy Gou's work doesn't feel formulaic so much as geometric -- "Nanana" has the colour and kinetics of a game of Breakout, pinballing predictably, but forever satisfyingly. [8]
Katherine St Asaph: Bliss is the absence of thought. [7]
Alfred Soto: In Peggy Gou's eternal 1998 and 1987, plinkety-plonkety pop house is the lingua franca. I'll admit to confusing "(It Goes Like) Nanana" and Kylie Minogue's "Padam Padam." Who wouldn't? [6]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: nah nah nah [4]
Claire Biddles: The Peggy Gou: The Complete Singles compilation that comes out in 2034 is going to be the greatest dance pop album of all time. [8]
Edward Okulicz: I didn't have "Peggy Gou gets an actual hit single" on my 2023 bingo card, but if you'd told me that it was going to happen last year with a song that steals as much from K-Klass as it does from ATB, I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. The whole song's as slick as the little "9PM" guitar line and if it's too soft to be a real floor filler, that seems like a decision rather than a flaw. [8]
Aaron Bergstrom: Answering the question, "How do you get from 'I Go' to 'featuring Lenny Kravitz" in one step?" [6]
David Moore: I love the small touches in this, especially the chintzy pitch-bend synth guitar, even though this song's massive success after "I Go" kind of feels like when a major director finally gets an Oscar for a merely competent movie after getting snubbed for their masterpiece. I'll take it, though. [7]
Peter Ryan: In the right light a bit of a supercut of Annie's Endless Vacation tracks. I can't complain; Gou's track swells in sync with the lyric's devolution into a heady non-verbal state. She gets it -- don't think, just move. [9]
Brad Shoup: Now this is a Eurodance text: verb choices just a couple degrees away from expected, similar clauses chained together, a big arrow pointing at the universal hook. If ATB could clone his hit i don't see why Gou can't. I dunno if this is a one-off trance dalliance but if not: try "The Lonely One" next. [7]
Taylor Alatorre: A dance song which performs its intended function ably and effectively, and which is committed to becoming a throwback club hit even as it is afraid to commit to representing anything beyond that. Those little bent synth phrases after the chorus sound cool. [6]
Will Adams: A panoply of musical choices designed to hit every pleasure point in my brain -- mindless, wordless hook; house piano chords; organ bass; synthetic guitar straight from an ATB classic -- that its slightness doesn't really matter. [7]
Vikram Joseph: This deserves to be heard under a high sun by a glittering sea so much that, listening to it for the first time right now, I almost want to hold myself back from it so that I can save it for the summer of '24. But to do so would be futile, because there's nothing delayed about the gratification that "(It Goes Like) Nanana" provides. It's so deeply kinetic, decorated with lashings of house piano, sweet pulses of synth and a fleeting quarter-century echo of the motif from "9 PM (Till I Come)"; it might have a big, dumb club-goading chorus but it's also smart enough to under-stay its welcome. Best just to give yourself entirely to it -- I mean, it's summer somewhere. [8]

Choosing the Right Shade: Tips from Our Hair Color Experts
Hi, I’m Abby Haliti, a hair color specialist in NYC, and I’m here to help you navigate the world of hair color. Whether you’re thinking about going blonde, brunette, red, or trying something bold and new, choosing the right shade can be a game-changer for your look. Here are some tips from our team of hair color experts to help you find the perfect shade that complements your style and personality.
Tumblr media
1. Consider Your Skin Tone
One of the most important factors in choosing the right hair color is your skin tone. The right shade can enhance your complexion, while the wrong one might wash you out or clash with your natural coloring.
Warm Skin Tones: If you have warm undertones, think golden, honey, or caramel shades. Warm blondes, rich brunettes, and warm reds can bring out the natural glow in your skin.
Cool Skin Tones: For cooler undertones, ash blondes, cool browns, and deep burgundy shades work well. These colors can add contrast and make your skin look even more radiant.
Neutral Skin Tones: Lucky you! With a neutral skin tone, you can pull off a wide range of colors, from warm to cool. It’s all about what makes you feel the most confident.
2. Think About Your Eye Color
Your eye color can also play a big role in determining which hair color will look best on you. For example:
Blue or Green Eyes: Light, cool shades like platinum blonde or ash brown can make your eyes pop. Warm shades like golden blonde or copper can also bring out the warmth in your eye color.
Brown or Hazel Eyes: Warm tones like chestnut brown, caramel, and honey blonde can complement the warmth in your eyes. For a bolder look, try deep auburn or a rich, chocolate brown.
3. Match Your Hair Color to Your Lifestyle
Your lifestyle is another important factor to consider. If you’re someone who’s always on the go and doesn’t have a lot of time for maintenance, you might want to opt for a low-maintenance color like balayage or subtle highlights. These techniques blend seamlessly with your natural color and grow out beautifully.
On the other hand, if you love experimenting with your look and don’t mind regular touch-ups, you can go for something more dramatic, like a platinum blonde or a vibrant fashion color.
4. Take Inspiration from Your Wardrobe
Believe it or not, your wardrobe can give you clues about which hair color might suit you best. If you tend to gravitate towards warm, earthy tones, a warm hair color might be the way to go. If you love cool, jewel tones, a cooler hair color could be a perfect match.
5. Consult with a Hair Color Expert
At the end of the day, nothing beats personalized advice from a professional. A hair color expert like myself can assess your skin tone, eye color, and lifestyle to recommend the perfect shade for you. We can also customize the color to ensure it flatters you and reflects your unique style.
If you’re ready to find your perfect shade, book a consultation with me today. Together, we can create a hair color that enhances your natural beauty and makes you feel fabulous.

Best in Show Blues: A Jayla Johnson Job
This was my second-round entry to the NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge. The prompt was a crime caper, set in a surveillance van, featuring a dog whistle. Unfortunately, this one didn't place, and I was eliminated. I can understand why; in order to advance I would have needed to place 4th place or better in my division, and this story just plain wasn't as good as my first entry.
All the same, I think I churned out a very cute story that I'm very proud of. Also, I found a way to work in a shoutout to my oldest friend and that's always a win. I hope you like it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re in my surveillance van staking out the Ossining, NY 24th annual dog show with a plan to steal a dog. Well, technically, it was my older brother Josh’s work van. But Josh let me and Rashad put in a Wi-Fi hotspot.
“Alright, M. Tell me the plan one more time.”
Mikayleigh and I were friends in kindergarten, but we lost touch. Our interests have diverged: I was into goth music and anime. She was into pink graphic tees with dogs on them. And she drinks tonic water from a can like it’s La Croix. Cringe.
She sipped her tonic water. “Why?”
“Because it’s your first job, and I’m not sure you’re ready.”
“Why aren’t you going in with me if you’re so worried?”
“Because Monty knows me and Rashad, and knows we like to steal from jerks like him.” I said.
She rolled her eyes.
Rashad, my cousin and best friend, said, “Listen, do you remember in the eighth grade, when someone stole the school mascot, but then the day before the big game he just turned back up like magic?”
“Yeah.” M said.
“We got him back. And Jayla planned the whole job. She’s a pro.”
“Fine. Step one, Josh and I go into the dog show.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mikayleigh and Josh walked across the convention floor of the dog show in t-shirts that said “Zoomin’ Groomin’ Pet Grooming.”
Rashad and I sat in the van on comms. Through Mikayleigh’s airpods, I could hear the din of dogs barking.
“Remember, the dog's name is “Biggie”. White Boston Terrier with black spots.” I said.
“Yes, I know.” She said.
She took another gulp of tonic water. “I don’t know how you drink that gross stuff.”
“Quinine prevents malaria.” She said. “Wait, is that him?”
“Describe him.”
“Ummm... our age, tall, slim, pale. Kind of got, like, a pompadour haircut.”
That was our dognapper. Rich kid and all-around jerk, Montgomery Buford. “That’s him. Do you see Biggie?”
Josh said, “That’s a Boston terrier, alright. But isn’t our dog supposed to be spotted? Dog next to Monty is mostly black.”
“Kuso. Did Hector lie to us?” I said
“No; that’s Biggie. He’s got the little heart shaped spot on his forehead.” Mikayleigh said
“Then why the color difference?”
“Hmmm, I have a hunch. It doesn’t matter.”
“Okay. You’re up, M.”
Silence. Then I heard “Hey Monty, it’s me: Mikayleigh from middle school!”
“Um, okay. What do you want?”
Mikayleigh began yammering, telling Monty about Boston Terriers, breed standards, famous dogs, her dog-dedicated Instagram page, her neighbor’s Boston Terrier when she was a little girl in The Bronx...
Monty stopped her mid-sentence, “Uh... that’s cool. I’m gonna smoke a cigarette. Kent, watch the dog.”
            Wait, what?
A second later Mikayleigh said, “Jayla, problem, Monty brought his own groomer.”
            “Yeah, I heard.”
Josh said, “Wait, I’ve seen him around town. Name is Kent Something. Graduated high school the same year as me.”
            “Alright, we’re on it.”
Josh gave us a quick description, and Rashad worked his laptop magic. He poured through a thousand pages of Google results in a nanosecond and said “Josh, was his name Kent Skyler?”
“Yeah, that’s him.”
“Okay. He owns “Doggy Style Grooming” in Peekskill.
“Ew.” Mikayleigh and I both said.
Rashad went on: “He’s a hired gun for dog shows. Got two dogs himself: Jace and Chandra...”
“Wait, Rashad, say those names again?” Josh said.
“Jace and Chandra. Why?”
“He’s into Magic: the Gathering. I got him.”
A second later I heard, “Yo! Kent! Good to see you, dog! Yo, we’re having a Magic tournament after the show. You down?”
From Kent, “Oh, uh... yeah. Didn’t know you were into Magic.”
“Bro, I just got this new Blue/Green deck that’s been cooking fools. Come hang with me for a second.”
“Uh, yeah man. Alright.”
“Mikayleigh, you good?” I said.
She said, “I got your favorite toy!” and I heard a short bark. “Alright, buddy. We’re gonna get you out of here.”
“Remember, M. Out the back door and back to the van.”
Just then, I heard a strange, airy hiss.
“Mikayleigh, what’s happening?”
“Monty’s back. He’s got a dog whistle.”
Uh-oh
“Where are you going with my dog, you creepy little dork?”
“He’s my friend Hector’s dog! You stole him off his front lawn!”
“Oh yeah? Prove it. Does Hector have any documents? Adoption records?”
Dammit, I hate to lose, especially to this puppy-snatching prick.
“That’s what I thought. The dog’s better off with me anyway.”
“His name is Biggie.” Mikayleigh said.
“Not anymore. I think I’ll call him Winston. Now hand him over before I call security.”
I slammed the wall of the van in anger. He nailed us.
“Interesting coloration he’s got.” Said Mikayleigh.
“Huh?” Monty said.
“Perfect black and white saddle pattern, like a ‘tight-fitting tuxedo jacket’ like it says in the United Kennel Club breed guide. Only thing is, that’s not Biggie’s natural color, is it?
“You were wrong. Biggie is an almost perfect show Terrier, but since he’s spotted, you couldn’t submit him to a dog show, could you? So, you used that “dog-safe” hair dye. “See Spots Go”, was it? Well, there’re two things you should know about that stuff:
“One, it’s been banned by the SPCA because it causes skin issues in small breeds. And two...”
I heard liquid glugging, like she was pouring out her tonic water.
“It washes off with Quinine.”
I heard Monty sputter.
“I’ll be taking Biggie then,” Mikayleigh said.
Biggie whined and the hiss began again.
“Bring back my dog!”
“No, I don’t think I will. Also, dog whistles are cruel. It hurts dogs’ ears.” she said. I heard the metallic ring of the dog whistle landing in the trash can.
A minute later, the van doors opened, and I saw Mikayleigh and Biggie smiling and wagging, respectively.
“I was wrong, M. You’ve got guts.”
She smiled at me. “Let's go give Hector the good news.”
