Targeted Therapy and Immunotherapy for Gallbladder Cancer
As researchers learn more about the changes in cells that cause gallbladder cancer, they’ve developed drugs to target some of these changes. These targeted drugs work differently from standard chemotherapy (chemo) drugs. They sometimes work when standard chemo drugs don’t, and they often have different side effects.
FGFR2 inhibitors:
FGFRs (fibroblast growth factor receptors) are proteins on cells that help them grow and divide normally. A small number of people with gallbladder cancer have changes in the genes that make FGFRs, which result in abnormal FGFR proteins that cause cells to grow out of control and turn into cancer.
Pemigatinib (Pemazyre) and futibatinib (Lytgobi) are FGFR2 inhibitors. They block the abnormal FGFR2 protein in gallbladder cancer cells and keep them from growing and spreading to other places.
These drugs can be used to treat some advanced gallbladder cancers that cannot be removed by surgery or have spread to distant areas after at least one previous chemotherapy treatment. For these drugs to work, your cancer must have an abnormal FGFR2 gene, so your cancer will be tested before starting any of these drugs.
These medicines are taken by mouth as tablets, typically once a day.
IDH1 inhibitor:
In some people with gallbladder cancer, the cancer cells have a change (mutation) in the IDH1 gene, which normally helps cells make the IDH1 protein. Mutations in this gene can lead to an abnormal IDH1 protein, which can stop cells from maturing the way they normally would.
Ivosidenib (Tibsovo) is an IDH1 inhibitor. It blocks the abnormal IDH1 protein, which seems to help the cancer cells mature into more normal cells. This drug can be used in people with advanced, previously treated gallbladder cancer, if the cancer cells are found to have an IDH1 mutation. Your doctor can test your cancer cells to see if they have an IDH1 mutation.
This drug is taken by mouth, once a day.
Less common but more serious side effects can include changes in heart rhythm, pneumonia, and jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin).
NTRK inhibitor:
A very small number of gallbladder cancers have changes in one of the NTRK genes, called NTRK gene fusions. Cells with these gene changes make abnormal TRK proteins, which can lead to abnormal cell growth and cancer.
Larotrectinib (Vitrakyi) or entrectinib (Rozlytrek) are NTRK inhibitors. TRK inhibitors target and disable the proteins made by the NTRK genes. This drug can be used in people with advanced gallbladder cancer, who have not received prior systemic therapy.
These drugs are taken as pills, once or twice daily.
Possible side effects of NTRK inhibitors:
Common side effects can include abnormal liver tests; decreased white blood cell and red blood cells; muscle and joint pain; tiredness; diarrhea or constipation; nausea and vomiting; and stomach pain.
Less common but more serious side effects can include mental changes, such as confusion, changes in mood, changes in sleep; liver damage; changes in heart rhythm and/or function; vision changes; harm to a fetus.
BRAF inhibitor:
In some gallbladder cancers, the cells have changes in the BRAF gene. Cells with these changes make an altered BRAF protein that helps them grow. Some drugs target this and related proteins. A combination of BRAF inhibitor and a MEK inhibitor is often given together to treat advanced cancer with the BRAF V600E mutation.
Dabrafenib (Tafinlar) is a BRAF inhibitor. Trametinib (Mekinist) is a MEK inhibitor. This drug combination can be used in people with advanced, previously treated gallbladder cancer, if the cancer cells are found to have an BRAF V600E mutation.
These drugs are taken as pills or capsules each day.
Possible side effects of BRAF inhibitor:
Common side effects can include skin thickening, rash, itching, sensitivity to the sun, headache, fever, joint pain, tiredness, hair loss, nausea, and diarrhea.
Less common but more serious side effects can include bleeding, heart rhythm problems, liver or kidney problems, lung problems, severe allergic reactions, severe skin or eye problems, increased blood sugar levels, and squamous cell skin cancer.
RET inhibitor:
In a small percentage of gallbladder cancers, the tumor cells have a rearrangement in the RET gene that causes them to make an abnormal form of the RET protein. This abnormal protein helps the tumor cells grow.
Selpercatinib (Retevmo) or pralsetinib (Gayreto) are RET inhibitors and can be used to treat advanced gallbladder cancers with the RET rearrangement.
These drugs are taken by mouth as capsules, typically once or twice a day.
Possible side effects of RET inhibitors:
Common side effects can include dry mouth, diarrhea or constipation, high blood pressure, tiredness, swelling in hands and/or feet, skin rash, muscle and joint pain, low blood cell counts, or changes in other blood tests.
Less common but more serious side effects can include liver damage, lung damage, allergic reactions, changes in heart rhythm, bleeding easily, and problems with wound healing.
KRAS inhibitor:
In some gallbladder cancers, the cancer cells have changes in the KRAS gene called a KRAS G12C mutation.  This mutation makes an abnormal form of the KRAS protein, which helps the cancer cells grow and spread.  KRAS inhibitors attach to the KRAS G12C protein, which helps keep cancer cells from growing.
Adagrasib (Krazati) is a KRAS inhibitor and is used to treat advanced gallbladder cancer with the KRAS G12C mutation if you’ve already had at least one other type of drug treatment.
This drug is taken as a pill, typically twice a day.
Possible side effects of KRAS inhibitor:
Common side effects can include diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, muscle pain, fatigue, cough, decreased white blood cell and red blood cell counts, and changes in other blood tests.

Innovative Treatments and Technologies at the Best Cancer Hospitals
Cancer treatment has come a long way in recent years. Today, hospitals offer cutting-edge treatments and technologies to provide the best care for patients. For instance, the best cancer hospital in Pune and other places in Maharashtra uses state-of-the-art methods to treat various types of cancer. This blog will explore some of these innovative treatments and technologies.
Immunotherapy: Harnessing the Power of the Immune System
Immunotherapy is a groundbreaking treatment that helps the body’s immune system fight cancer.
There are several types of immunotherapy, including:
Checkpoint inhibitors: These drugs help the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells.
T-cell transfer therapy: This involves taking immune cells from a patient's tumour, enhancing them, and then reintroducing them to the patient's body.
Monoclonal antibodies: These are lab-made molecules that can bind to cancer cells and help the immune system destroy them.
Targeted Therapy: Precision Medicine at Its Best
Targeted therapy is a treatment that targets specific genes or proteins that help cancer cells grow. Some common types of targeted therapy include:
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors: These drugs block signals needed for tumours to grow.
Monoclonal antibodies: Besides their role in immunotherapy, they can also target specific molecules in cancer cells.
Hormone therapies: These treatments block or lower the body's hormones to slow or stop cancer growth.
A good cancer hospital would use targeted therapy to treat various cancers, including breast, lung, and colorectal cancers.
Advanced Imaging Technologies: Early and Accurate Detection
Early detection is crucial for successful cancer treatment. Advanced imaging technologies help doctors find and diagnose cancer at an early stage.
Some advanced imaging technologies include:
PET/CT scans: These combine positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) to provide detailed images of the body and help detect cancer.
MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the body's internal structures.
3D mammography: Also known as tomosynthesis, this advanced form of mammography provides a three-dimensional view of the breast, improving the accuracy of breast cancer detection.
Robotic Surgery: Precision and Minimally Invasive Procedures
Robotic surgery is another innovative technology used in cancer treatment. This technique allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with precision and control. A cancer hospital uses robotic surgery to treat various cancers, including prostate, gynaecological, and gastrointestinal cancers.
Benefits of robotic surgery include:
Smaller incisions: This leads to less pain and scarring for patients.
Greater precision: Surgeons can make more precise movements, improving outcomes.
Shorter recovery times: Patients often recover faster and with fewer complications.
Conclusion
Innovative treatments and technologies have transformed cancer care, offering patients more effective and less invasive options. The best cancer hospital in Pune and in other areas of Maharashtra is at the forefront of these advancements, providing cutting-edge care to improve patient outcomes. From immunotherapy and targeted therapy to advanced imaging technologies, robotic surgery, and proton therapy, these innovations make a significant difference in the fight against cancer.

Importance of Gynecologist in Women Health
Today, more than 50% of India’s human resources are made up of women. From the rulers, educators, decision-makers, rulers, and prime ministers to the women who run the country. Their commitment and achievement are incomparable to any other race. Therefore, a woman’s health is important to meet her needs. Women face many problems that can get worse and worse if they do not find the right treatment.
Infectious diseases affect women – puberty, menstruation, breast cancer, pregnancy to menopause. Each disease is monitored by a doctor known as a gynecologist. Beginning at puberty, when the reproductive organs mature, women are recommended to have an annual gynecologist or at least 3 years.
This work is performed professionally by a gynecologist.
Pregnancy: Women who have sex should be aware of methods of contraception and prevention of diseases such as HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, etc., as well as unwanted pregnancy.
Prevention: Every woman should be advised to have a healthy lifestyle to avoid various diseases and cancers that affect the age group to maintain health in adulthood, pregnancy, and old age.
Pelvic organ testing: Most women suffer from panic attacks, such as menstrual bleeding, white blood clots, etc. Many women feel cramped and bloated in their personal areas. Such news can cause a lot of fear in women. It is very important for the gynecologist to detect the red flag of any disease, so regular examination of the pelvic organ is very important.
Clinical examination of the mammary glands: Although monthly breast self-examination is recommended, regular examination by a qualified specialist can help identify the unknown.

Vaccination: A gynecologist is recommended for vaccination every year. The HPV vaccine reduces the risk of some types of cancer, such as cancer of the cervix, vagina, vagina, and kidneys. And other common vaccines, such as the flu vaccine.
Sexual health: Apparently, a gynecologist is simply an expert where a woman is free to discuss issues related to her sex life and well-being. Therefore, regular monitoring by a gynecologist will help discuss important sexual health issues and create a report to find immediate solutions.
Conception: Due to a major genetic disorder and late pregnancy, women are more susceptible to many diseases and pregnancy can be bad for the baby. Therefore, maternity counseling and care are very important for planning a baby and building a healthy family.

When we talk about the second most common type of cancer affecting women, it is breast cancer. Regular mammograms can increase the chances of breast cancer detection early on. It will therefore become easier to treat this disease.
What is mammography?
Mammography is the X-ray of your breast, and it helps in the screening for breast cancer. They detect tumours that are small in size for your doctor or you to feel. In addition, it can catch some early signs of breast cancer so that they can be treated easily.

Does Breastfeeding lower your breast cancer risk?
Female breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and a leading cause of death from cancer but does breastfeeding lower your risk of breast cancer?
Yes, it does, though the specifics are hard to pinpoint. There are studies worth noting. Of course, breastfeeding can give your baby a healthy start of life, but along with that, it can lower your breast cancer risk.
On an analysis done over 1,50,000 women found, that woman who breastfeeds for 12 months either with one child or more than one have less risk of breast cancer, they found a decrease of 4.3% when compared with women who didn't breastfeed at all. It has also been studied, mothers who breastfeed lower their risk of pre- and post-menopausal breast cancer.
Tumblr media
How does Breastfeeding Reduce the Risk of Breast Cancer?
Breastfeeding mothers experience hormonal changes during lactation which delays their menstrual period, this reduces exposure to hormones like estrogen, which can give a rise to breast cancer cell growth. Another theory says breastfeeding can make breast cells more resistant to the variations that can cause cancer.
In addition, breastfeeding also helps to lower the risk of ovarian cancer by preventing ovulations, and the less you ovulate, the less you are exposed to estrogen, abnormal cells that could become cancer.
What should be the duration of Breastfeed to Reduce Your Risk of cancer?
For the healthy benefits, it is recommended to breastfeed for at least six months according to the American Institute for Cancer Research and World Health Organization. It means your baby should receive only breast milk – no water, other liquids or solid. Data shows that health benefits and cancer risk, reduces significantly at six months and beyond, and breast milk is good source of energy and nutrients for infants to stay healthy and for their development.
 What if You Can’t Breastfeed?
Not to stress about it! It is not like, you will get breast cancer if you don't breastfeed or you'll never get if you have breastfed. Neither of those things are true. The most effective way to help reduce your breast cancer risk is to maintain a healthy lifestyle within your control. Things like smoking, having alot of fried food, red meat, alcohol consumption and lack of physical activity also affects.
That mean's breastfeeding is not the only way to reduce your risk of breast cancer but exercise and healthy-diet too helps.
Is Breastfeeding safe in Corona Virus Pandemic (Covid-19)?
It is not yet proved about corona virus spreading through breastfeeding; studies are still being carried out. So, all the new mothers who are breast feeding their kids need to take special precautions and specifically mothers who fear of testing corona positive or have been tested corona positive should take the following precautions:
1. Wash or sanitize hands before breast feeding.
2. Wear a mask while breast feeding.
If the above precautionary measures are followed, the mothers can surely breastfeed their new born.

Diagnosis of Breast cancer: Dr. Pratik Patil
Diagnosis of Breast cancer:
According to Dr. Pratik Patil: breast cancer doctor in Pune, the diagnosis of breast cancer involves a combination of imaging tests, physical examination, and biopsy.
The first step in the diagnosis of breast cancer is usually a physical examination, during which the doctor will feel the breasts for lumps or other abnormalities. This is usually followed by one or more imaging tests, such as a mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI, which can provide more detailed information about any abnormalities found during the physical exam.
If an abnormality is detected on the imaging tests, a biopsy is typically performed to determine whether the abnormality is cancerous. During a biopsy, a small sample of tissue is removed from the breast and examined under a microscope by a pathologist. If the biopsy confirms the presence of cancer, additional tests may be performed to determine the stage of the cancer and whether it has spread to other parts of the body. These tests may include a CT scan, bone scan, or PET scan.
Once a diagnosis of breast cancer has been confirmed, the patient will work with a team of healthcare providers to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to their specific situation. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and/or targeted therapy.
Treatment of Breast Cancer:
Breast cancer treatment depends on several factors, including the stage and type of breast cancer, as well as the patient’s overall health and preferences. Dr. Pratik Patil provides best breast cancer treatment in Pune, typically recommends a personalised treatment plan for each patient, which may include:
Surgery: The goal of surgery is to remove the cancerous tumour from the breast. Depending on the size and stage of the tumour, surgery may involve a lumpectomy (removal of the tumour and surrounding tissue) or a mastectomy (removal of the entire breast). In some cases, Dr. Pratik Patil may also recommend lymph node removal.
Radiation therapy: Radiation therapy is often used after surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence. Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams to kill cancer cells.
Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment that uses drugs to kill cancer cells throughout the body. Chemotherapy may be recommended before or after surgery, depending on the type and stage of breast cancer.
Hormone therapy: Hormone therapy is a treatment that targets hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. This type of breast cancer relies on hormones to grow, so hormone therapy is used to block the effects of hormones or reduce their production.
Targeted therapy: Targeted therapy is a type of treatment that targets specific molecules or proteins involved in cancer cell growth. Targeted therapy may be used in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy or hormone therapy.
Dr. Pratik Patil emphasises the importance of regular breast cancer screening and early detection. If you have any concerns about breast cancer, he recommends talking to your doctor about your risk factors and screening options.
How much does Breast Cancer treatment cost in Pune?
Dr. Pratik Patil is an Internationally recognized Best Oncologist in Pune with experience of more than 10 years. Breast Cancer treatment in Pune is a very affordable and low-cost procedure that takes very little time to operate and does not require a long doctor’s stay. Breast Cancer Treatment cost in Pune is between Rs.90,000 to Rs.15,00,000. The patient has to stay in the hospital for 5 days and outside the hospital for 20 days. The total cost of the treatment depends on the diagnosis and facilities opted for by the patient.
