MARTIN - 28, 5'10, he/him, December 23rd(Capricorn)
BIGGEST heart on the team. Sees good in everybody
He's like if someone gave a golden retriever a human suit.
BANNED from the kitchen he CANNOT COOK at his ancient self
He pulls the 'big brother card' a LOT
He LOVES to sing, but nobody has the heart to tell him he sucks so they just...let him
He loves so easily
Martin makes the stupidest dad jokes
He labels his things with a blue sticker so he can keep his stuff organized... he still loses things
He taught himself Mandarin Chinese out of sheer boredom; he is now almost fluent
He needs people to like him or he will DIE
Do not give him coffee; he will be insane and hyperactive and then go awol for the rest of the day
CHRIS - 24, 5'8, he/him, July 19th(Gemini)
Burned-out gifted kid? Yes
His experiments normally consist of him using Martin as his guinea pig for payback for all the jokes he got pulled on as a kid
Loves cinnamon-flavoured anything
He also has a pretty high spice tolerance
Used to be friends with Zach in preschool, but it stopped not long after that
He climbs trees because he's a sensory seeker.
Chris is an avid tea drinker
He is also the best dancer on the team
Chris was such a geek in high school, he didn't 'glow up' until he was 17
Since the Tazzy incident, Chris occasionally has cravings for raw meat but chalks it up to low-iron
The only one on the team with a consistent sleep schedule
AVIVA -26, 5'5, she/her, April 5th(Aries)
Her dad raised her to be tough and strong, therefore making her a perfectionist and a maniac lol
Aviva loves Hot chocolate with Marshmallows, and watching nostalgic cartoons
She has a nasty habit of comparing herself to others and gets ridiculously insecure when anyone challenges her opinion. She masks it by being defensive and doubling down
Beautiful by default(duh) but she doesn't see it
She has a nasty older brother who was the stem of all her insecurities
She found a grey hair once and cried
She was cheer captain in high school, hence her athleticism
Aviva is messy as hell. Like, more messy than Martin.
She also dislikes mud
The worst dancer on the crew(I'm sorry), but she's the most talented singer
NEVER lets her hair down, it gets in the way too much.

Frequently asked questions Every Home Seller Should Read Before Hiring a Real Estate Agent
Before you hire a real estate agent, read the answers to your most important things. Will a property I sell myself be at a cut-throat disadvantage compared to properties sold by real estate agents? No-and in several ways, you'll have an advantage. First of all, today's buyers find their properties on the Internet on their own time. If they like your home, they're going to call you no matter what-and the odds are good that they'll possibly be happier dealing with you than with an agent. It is basically no secret that a huge number of homes are not selling as well as expire before the agent ever gets the home sold. Instigate a Google search and you'll see the amount of training material the estate industry offers to teach their agents how to influence sellers to renew their listings for a year. There isn't an magic in what a real estate agent does. To give you an example of the key benefits of selling your home yourself, think about signs. When you list using an agent, they get to place a mini billboard into your yard that includes a tiny bit of advertising for your home and a large number of advertising for their company. The whole industry should have moved to customized signs a long time ago-but they haven't. You will find a significant advantage by tailoring your on-the-ground marketing propose to your home, including your FOR SALE sign. Do homes sell just for more when listed with a real estate agent? That's what any National Association of Realtors funded by real estate agents states, but there's no independent data to support their statistics. In case a real estate agent tells you they can get you more money for your home, keep these things bring you a buyer; if they can't, they need to leave you will alone to sell your house. Far too many listings handled by providers expire, unsold. An agent's opinion is not going to get your place sold. It's easy for people to make guesses and conjectures, but to win in today's market, you have to deal with hard information. How much time and effort is this really going to take? You will need about as much time to sell your house as it takes to make sure you plan a long vacation. The marketing side requires one of the most time up front, but once you've gathered your facts, the software shouldn't take you more than a few hours to get your online marketing plan started. You'd have to gather that same advice for an agent, if you used one. And the process has long been streamlined for you on sites like simpleandsold. com. For anybody who is skeptical, take the amount you'd pay in commission towards a real estate agent and divide it by the number of hours you will need to plan a vacation. The result should help you see that occasion you put into selling your house will be time well expended. A real estate agent told me it would be dangerous to sell my own home, because I'd be letting strangers in my house all the time. Should I be worried? Unfortunately, you're going to have to let strangers in your home to offer it. But you would have to do this with or without a real estate professional, so this is almost a moot point. Remember that you can clear your home any way you want: you can take down information for safeness purposes; you can schedule your viewing appointments so that you will never be alone in the house; and you have the right to stop the process if you become uncomfortable with a person's presence. This is something sometimes real estate agents face. Do I need to use a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) to see the exposure I need for my home? First, you should understand what MLS is. It was not designed as a marketing place for homes; rather, it's a simple way for brokers for you to negotiate compensation with each other, so that Real Estate Agent A can convey to Real Estate Agent B, "Sell my listing and I will spend you X. " Period. My local MLS, that has been named #1 in the country, is still way behind the times. The software allows me to upload approximately eight tiny (two-by-two-inch) pictures and about three sentences of description. I'm not really allowed to link to anything. How is that a viable selling tool? Look at Zillow, Trulia, and Yahoo! Real Estate will probably see how much the MLS has been eclipsed. It's turned into just an outdated method for real estate agents to protect their lawn. Some systems are not even Mac compatible. With Straight forward and Sold, you can put your home up for enjoying on hundreds of websites, and you can add up to thirty-six large, high-definition photos in your listing. You can have paragraphs of description with regards to your home. You can attach listing brochures and other files, which will interested buyers can view online or download. You can add background music or a voice-over about your property's features; you possibly can provide links to area schools and anything else you'd like. What is the NAR? NAR stands for the National Connections of Realtors, the lobbying group listed at #4 on opensecrets. org's list of political heavy hitters. Oahu is the organization about which Joe Nocera of the New York Conditions once wrote: "You have to wonder sometimes what there're smoking over there at the National Association of Real estate agents. " According to Bloodhound Realty Blog, The NAR seems to have stayed under the radar while doing a monstrous amount of difficulties for the economy, the housing market, and most importantly, the consumer. Bloodhound Realty Blog states (this blog does a great project of exposing the NAR), "It was the NAR that lobbied for each law and rule change who resulted in the housing boom, the sub-prime lending failure, the wanton bundling of fraudulent loans, the recurring subsidization of the secondary mortgage market, etc . The bad guy behind all the villains in the collapse of the American market is the National Association of Realtors. " "The properties licensing laws, written in their original form by the NAR, exist to limit competition in real estate brokerage, eradicating alternative sources of real estate brokerage to artificially sustain more significant commissions for NAR brokers" John Crudele of the Los angeles Post recently stated: "The real estate industry lives through motto: "location, location, location. " Next week it'll be recognized for "deception, deception, deception. " People want comprehend and the NAR is deceiving the public all to save the particular sacred real estate commission. Crudele also reports: "The Countrywide Association of Realtors admitted that it has been reporting damaging figures on sales... Jeez! Tell the truth!... The Agents aren't doing the country any favors by sugar-coating his or her stats... and the people at NAR don't seem to be bothered by your practice. " Don't most people trust real estate agents to get individuals the best deal? Unfortunately, people don't trust them. From the most recent Gallup poll, they ranked lower than bankers and yet higher than congressmen in terms of ethics. In all fairness, it's not typically the behavior of real estate agents that has been unethical; it's the way the organization, the NAR, has worked to block their contest. As I see it, and as most Americans see it, competition is ideal for the competent. You own your home, so you should have the choice selling it any way you choose. The NAR got a general population slap on the wrist in 2008 from the Justice Agency when the organization tried to stop real estate agents without a physical clinic from participating in MLS. The Justice Department had to sue the NAR to allow mobile, internet-based brokers-the kind what person operate from laptops and Starbucks instead of fancy offices-to practice their trade. I think the NAR should be embarrassed of making taxpayers pay for this lawsuit, which (in the text of the DOJ itself) "requires NAR to allow Internet-based readily available real estate brokers to compete with traditional brokers. " The Team said the settlement would enhance competition in the realty brokerage industry, giving consumers more choice, better services, and lower commission rates. NAR is now bound because of a ten-year settlement to ensure that it continues to abide by the requirements of your agreement. But don't Realtors operate under a Prefix of Ethics? Ironically, the NAR emphasizes a "Code of Ethics" for all its members-but at the same time, they have been labeled on the carpet for deceptive statistics on homes revenues. In my opinion, anyone who needs an organization to tell them easy methods to be ethical probably doesn't understand the code regarding ethics that they're swearing to uphold.

Mac Menu Bar Timer App
Alarms and timers are great productivity tools that are with us every step of the way. You wake up with an alarm, start and finish working with it. Alarms help you remember important events and make sure you don’t miss your friend’s birthday.

Mac Menu Bar Timer App Free
Some people can’t imagine doing their work without alarms and timers. Pomodoro productivity apps are a living proof of that. If you ever struggled meeting your deadlines, give this technique a try and you’ll see how much more efficient you can be.
Even though there are a few different options to set an alarm on a Mac, not every user knows how to do it. Let’s take a look at a few different options (both built-in and third-party). Then you can choose one that suits your needs best.
How to Set an Alarm on Mac Using Calendar
Your computer comes with a lot of pre-installed MacOS apps that are actually really good. One of the default apps is Calendar.
This menu bar app allows you to check your iCal appointments and create new ones right from within your menu bar. Fantastical is stylistically attractive, and all you have to do is type in your appointment, dates, and time (e.g. Dentist appointment, June 31, 11a.m.), and Fantastical will sort the information for you into a new iCal appointment. With InstaCal you can access your calendar from anywhere, simply by clicking the date in the menu bar. Always available in your Mac menu bar, InstaCal is quick and convenient and can be opened at any time. You can also add, view and edit reminders. The menu bar runs along the top of the screen on your Mac. Use the menus and icons in the menu bar to choose commands, perform tasks and check status. You can set an option in General preferences to automatically hide the menu bar; then it’s shown only when you move the pointer to the top of the screen. Jul 31, 2017 I have two Mac Pro laptops with the same version of OS and Word. On my older computer, the menu bar stays visible on all applications. On the new laptop, it disappears continually and is extremely irritating- it makes work much slower since each time I want to view info that is always visible on my older laptop. Nov 26, 2018 Forecast Bar – Weather + Radar is free for your Mac with in-app purchases for various update frequency options. Wrapping it up. Forget searching for or opening a weather app on your Mac to check the current conditions and forecast. These cool apps put the details in your menu bar and let you view what you need with a click.
Oct 09, 2012 I'm currently using Meteo, which I find to be a great app, especially for having the option of cycling whichever cities you want. The only issue that it has is that it hasn't been updated in quite a while, so it's sometimes buggy - for example sometimes when it's updating the weather conditions it just won't update so you'd have to quit and restart the app.
The app has many useful features, including setting a one-time alarm, and any alarm that you set on your computer using Apple Calendar will automatically sync with your other iOS devices. That way, you will still get the alert even if you’re away from your Mac.
Setting an alarm on Mac in Calendar is a very straightforward process:
To access Calendar, go to your dock. If you don’t see Calendar on your dock, go to Launchpad and find the app there using search tool.
Choose the date you want to set the alarm for.
When selecting the time for your alarm, double-click on the space next to the right hour. For example, if you want the alarm to go just after noon, click on the space between 12 and 1pm. Then drag the created time slot to adjust the minutes.
You can edit your event by creating a name for it, setting it to Home or Work event, adding location, notes, and even inviting other people.
To add an alert, tap on the date of your alarm. That will bring down a small menu. Click Alert.
Choose when you want the alarm to go off. You can choose from the default options or click Custom to set your own alarm length.
Hit Apply. If you’d like to add multiple alerts, click + next to the one you just created.
Removing an alarm is just as easy. Use the right-click to delete it, or tap on the event and click Delete.
How to Set an Alarm on Mac Using Reminders
If you’re someone who loves being in control and staying on top of your life, you’re probably using at least one of the great task-management apps out there. However, your Mac is already equipped with a simplistic to-do list type of app called Reminders.
This app’s main purpose is to remind you of important tasks you have to do throughout the day. It also works great for setting alarms on your Mac.
Go to Launchpad to locate the app. Open Reminders.
Inside the app, click on the + to add a reminder.
Type the name in. Then click the information (i) icon next to it.
Choose Remind me on a day.
Add the day and time you’d like to set the alarm for.
Click Done.
In order to remove the alarm, right-click the reminder and choose Delete.
Set an Alarm on Mac Using Siri
Digital assistants have their own strengths and weaknesses. On your smartphone, you can use Siri to set alarms. On your Mac, you can do it by using Siri to set a reminder.
But before you do it, make sure you have Siri enabled on your Mac.
Go to your System Preferences, choose Siri, and then check Enable Ask Siri.
To open Siri, use the key combination you have set up for it (the default one is Command + Space), or click Siri icon in the upper right corner of your Mac.
Say Set an alarm.
Siri will politely decline and offer to set a reminder instead.
Say Yes or click Confirm to set the reminder.
Ditch The Built-In Options
While Mac’s built-in options for setting alarms are useful, you might still find them rather limited. If you’re craving something more simple and straight-to-the-point, try one of the third-party sites and apps that serve the same purpose.
Use Online Alarm Clock To Set Alarms on Mac
If you have internet access, there’s no shortage of options for online alarm clocks. A simple Google search will bring up a few different options that you can choose from, like Onlineclock or Kukuklok.
Those sites are free to use, and they come with a set of basic options. You can set same-day alarms and timers, as well as choose the sound of the alert.
If you’re looking for a tool focused specifically on setting timers on Mac, E.ggtimer is a good pick. It comes with a countdown that you can set for certain time periods or even different tasks, like brushing your teeth or doing your morning exercise.
For those of you looking for a more interactive tool, give Setalarmclock a try. Aside from setting timers and alarms, it gives you advice on productivity, as well as a few fun options like naming your alarms and leaving a message for your future self.
When using these apps, make sure your computer isn’t muted and your volume is loud enough for you to hear the alarms go off.
Use Wake Up Time To Set Alarms
Wake Up Time is a great option for when you’re feeling old school. It’s basically a virtual embodiment of a physical alarm clock you used to have sitting on your bedside table.
The app will put a picture of a stylish-looking alarm clock on your Mac which you can use to set your alarms. To set an alarm, choose the time and date and then click the blue round button in the bottom-left corner of the clock. You can change what your alarm will sound like by tapping Sound in the menu.
When your alarm goes off, it won’t stop ringing until you hit the Stop button. The app works offline, and unlike other online tools on this list it will still work even if your Mac is muted.
A Mac is a great computer that comes with built-in really useful software. But like with any new gadget, there are always ways to improve your experience with it. So it never hurts to always be on the lookout for new apps and tools to take your Mac to the next level.
Being productive at work is a tough task. Even if you manage to block digital distractions, you cannot work all the day. That’s why it’s recommended to take regular breaks during your work. But, you’ve to make sure that you don’t get carried away by the break time. Pomodoro Technique was developed to address all these challenges at once. It does so by introducing a productivity-friendly schedule.

The Pomodoro Timer Technique for Work
You set up a working schedule of 25 minutes. After that, you have to take a 5-minute break. Once you’ve completed four Pomodoro sessions (2 hours in total), you can take a bigger break (I give myself 20 min). It’s scientifically proven, and I find it really effective to stay productive. That having said, you cannot rely on your Smartphone clock or the Mac time icon for checking the time. That’s why we need Pomodoro Timer apps.

Fortunately, there are a few good Pomodoro apps for Mac. Depending on functionalities, UI and the whole impact on workflow, you can find the best one. In this article, we have listed some of the most popular and effective Pomodoro timer apps for Mac. As said earlier, we have at least one tool for everyone out there. It should help you to find the best one.
#1 Be Focused Pro — Best Overall Pomodoro App
Be Focused Pro is one of the most popular Pomodoro apps for Mac out there. The best part is that it has an integrated task manager as well. Once you open the app, list all the tasks you have to do, and then start individual tasks as per the Pomodoro technique. If you don’t want those features, you can use Be Focused Pro as an easy-to-use 25-minute timer as well.
The interface is minimal and does not distract you. It does not have a fully-fledged window, but you can manage everything from the menu-bar icon. When it comes to customization aspect, Be Focused Pro does not disappoint you. You can decide the length of the intervals and how often they do appear during the work hours. By default, everything is set according to the Pomodoro technique.
Another impressive point in Be Focused Pro is the ability to track your progress. You can track how productive you were by looking at the Reports. What’s more, you can even export these reports to CSV. Since the app is available for iOS, you can benefit from Sync too. We would recommend it for professionals who value their time very much.
Pros
Simple UI
Multi-device Sync and Customization
Integrated Task Manager
Cons
None
Who Is It For
Be Focused Pro is the best solution when you’re hell-bent on productivity. No matter what you’re doing, this app lets you manage different tasks with proper intervals. We also liked the fact that it offers an integrated task manager.
Check Out Be Focused Pro ($4.99 on App Store)
Timer App For Mac
#2 Focus Booster — Best Pomodoro App with Timesheets
If you are looking for a multi-platform Pomodoro app with awesome features, Focus Booster is a great option indeed. Apart from Pomodoro-based timers and breaks, you will have access to Timesheets as well. That is, every single minute you work on a project will be counted. While you can use the service on the web or desktop, the Mac app is good enough.
Timer For Mac
Coming to the UI, Focus Booster has kept everything minimal. Unlike the previous app, Focus Booster has an actual window-based interface instead of the menu-bar icon. You will see the running timer on the screen, but there is also a Mini Timer. In the Customization department, you can change the basic things like Break Time, Timer duration and notification preferences. Focus Booster has a Dark Theme as well order to use Focus Booster, you should have an account for the service. Only after signing in can you start working on projects. It means everything you do will be synced with other apps, for iOS, Android and even Windows. Not all features are available in its free version though, to get features like Data Export and Unlimited Sessions of Pomodoro timer, you have to pay $4.99 per month.
Pros
A Simple Fully-Fledged Interface
Integrated support for Task and Timesheet management
Seamless Sync options
Cons
It doesn’t have a menu-bar icon
Who Is It For
If you need more control over timesheet and associated data, Focus Booster would be the best option. The app offers the standard Pomodoro timer experience, but that’s it. We’d recommend it for users who would not mind spending a bit more for time-tracking.
Check Out Focus Booster (Free, Premium Plans Start at $2.99)
#3 PomoDoneApp — Dedicated Pomodoro App for Mac
PomoDoneApp is one of the most popular timer apps for Mac and other platforms. Using the app is like a piece of cake. Once installed, you can launch the app and start working. https://cleverapt386.tumblr.com/post/655890752976683008/why-are-apps-taking-up-so-much-space-mac. Because it has an integrated task manager inside, you can start working on a single project itself.
PomoDoneApp does not have a minimal UI, but, that’s because the app has a few features in the Task Management department. However, at a glance, you can know about to-do tasks and start them. Instead of fixing on the 25-minute span, PomoDoneApp lets you choose a variety of timers — 5, 15 or 25.
This is what we love about PomoDoneApp. If you want, you can turn it into the complete space for managing your work and projects. On the other hand, if you are looking for something simple, you can use the app for Pomodoro timer setting. Coming to the Timer part, however, we liked the seamless nature. PomoDoneApp will work smoothly until you complete the four Pomodoro sessions.
Pros
Integrated Task Manager
Integration with online services
Time-tracking and scheduling
Cons
UI Could Have Been Simple
Mac Menu Bar Timer App Download
Who Is It For
PomoDoneApp is the best Pomodoro app when you need complete focus. It has been made with the sole intention of Pomodoro management. While the free version gives you a clean app, you have to pay a monthly subscription for team-based online features.
Check Out PomoDoneApp (Free, Premium Plans start at $2.33 per month)
#4 Tadam — Minimal Pomodoro App for Mac
At the core, Tadam is a minimalistic timer app for Mac, which promises to boost your productivity. What I love about Tadam is that it focuses on the right areas. It has an awesome way to let you know that it’s time for a break.
Tadam does not have much of a User Interface. It stays in the menu bar. Just click on the icon and you can enter the length of the timer. Once the timer is exhausted, you can get the break for 5 minutes. It, however, has a fully-fledged window for notifying the break. Even with this simplicity, Tadam has support for keyboard shortcuts.
You can master these keyboard shortcuts if you need quick timer management. There are also some superb features we loved: for instance, Tadam notifies you when you are almost near the end. You can actually add a few more minutes if interested — it’s not the Pomodoro way, though. It’s one of those Pomodoro apps that make you take a break.
Pros
Super-easy Interface
Impressive notifications and control
Cons
None
Who Is It For
Tadam is for everyone. It does not matter whether you’re a geek or a normal user. There is always a reason to use this app, even if not for Pomodoro. The best part about Tadam is that the app does not have anything to get you distracted. So, you keep working and taking breaks. It’s my personal favorite.
Check Out Tadam ($3.99 on App Store)
#5 Activity Timer — General Timer App with Pomodoro
Activity Timer is not a Pomodoro-specific timer for Mac, it’s more of general timer apps. However, it does comes with a preset for Pomodoro Technique. That is if you are trying to boost your productivity like never before, you can simply launch the Pomodoro timer. The timer will repeat 4 times, making it a full Pomodoro session.
Coming to the UI, Activity Timer does not have a fully-fledged window. Anything and everything needs to be managed from the menu-bar window. You can list out the popular presets, start or stop the timers and even check out the Preferences section. Although Activity Timer has an iOS counterpart, it does not offer options for content sync.
But, if you ask us why we love Activity Timer, we’d say it’s because of the workflow. It’s really awesome to use Activity Timer despite the huge number of features. The notifications work fine and you can even set up custom messages to display when it’s time for a break. And we love the fact that you can do all these from the menu-bar.
Pros
Easy to Use
Different Timers and Customization
Multi-device Sync
Cons
None
Who Is It For
Mac Menu Bar Timer Application
Activity Timer is the best option if you are looking for a general timer with proper customization. Although the app offers you complete control over the Pomodoro technique and customization, it does not consume many resources.

#6 Marinara – Best Browser based Pomodoro for Mac
Unlike the others, Marinara is a chrome app (don’t worry, it runs offline). The way it works is pretty simple, simply install the app, click on the Pomodoro icon next to the browser’s address bar, the default timer is set to 25 mins but could be changed from Settings. Set your short break and long break length. Choose sound or screen notifications. And start doing your work.
It comes with a pack of sound notifications, but what I really like about the app is the history, which you can import and export.
Pros
Works on all platform that has Chrome installed
Different Timers and Customization
Sound or screen notifications
History
Cons
Mac Menu Bar Timer Apps
Lacks someadvancede options that Desktop app has
Who Is It For
If you constantly juggle between a Mac and PC, then it’s time for you to look for a browser-based Pomodoro timer. And Marinara fit the profile easily.
Pomodoro Do’s and Don’ts
Pomodoro timers work best for work which is independent of other people. For example, I’ll use a Pomodoro timer for writing my articles, but not during a sales call or brainstorming with my team; as you can’t control or quantify its results. Also, avoid 10 Pomodoro or more in a day. If you do, the work quality will suffer. There is only so much productivity you can achieve in a day. So don’t push it.
Start with 4 Pomodoro timers a day and avoid all kind of communication and distraction. Also, take breaks. It tempting to go with the flow, but your mind need rest to stay productive. So, yes, take frequent breaks.
Which is the best Pomodoro App for Mac?
Mac Menu Bar Timer App Free
So, we have listed the best Pomodoro mac apps for almost every need. Sure, we’ve done some comparison as well, so that you choose the best tool. Tadam, despite being our favorite, may not have many functions that people are looking for. For instance, if you need an integrated task manager, PomoDoneApp for Mac is the best option. On the other hand, we would recommend Focus Booster if you need enterprise-level options and timesheet support. The point is, all these tools would work according to the Pomodoro technique.

Hello DanielGMac, Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you want to use the Maps app in OS X Mavericks to plan a route and then send that to your iPhone for your journey. To be able to do this, you would need place pins in each of your 6 stops in the Maps app on your Mac and here is more info:
Choose View > Drop Pin to mark your spot on the current map. You can use these pins to help you remember places or plan your journey. You can also use them to mark a destination you want directions for. If a pin isn’t exactly where you want it, put the pointer on it and hold down the button until the pin “hops.” Drag the pin into place, then release the button. To see additional options for a location, click the pin and then click the info (i) button in the menu that appears.
Once you have placed your pins and your route is planned, then share this to your iPhone using one of these methods:

You can even share a map to your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. iOS devices set to use the same iCloud account as your Mac user account appear at the top of the share list. When selected, Maps data that includes directions is sent to your iOS device as a notification. This is a convent way to look up directions on your Mac, then quickly send them to your iPhone for turn-by-turn directions.

As per UNESCO, some 1 billion students and youth across the planet are affected by school and university closures due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Together, as we adapt to the ever-changing “new normal,” Vijay Computer Academy (VCA) is here to provide you with the technology skills that will keep you connected, help you to learn & work productive remotely and everything in between.
It is evident through this pandemic that switching to an online platform for digital learning was difficult but necessary. IT is even essential in everyone’s everyday life which will come useful not just for digital learning but in students’ overall lives.
VCA is preparing students, educators, administrators, staff members for remote learning and teaching by offering training on zoom and skype
The coronavirus has made the return back to the classrooms virtually impossible to do without risking transmission of the disease. Precautions are being taken, but because there are no absolute guarantees, many educators are apprehensive about conducting in-person instruction. VCA can show you how to conduct class lessons through remote learning efficiently and effectively. With internet tools like zoom and skype teleconferencing software, teachers can run their classrooms from a digital platform that gives their students the best learning experience.
Training on MS -OFFICE, GOOGLE APPS and other basic IT skills

During this time when the return back to work is uncertain and tenuous, it’s the best time to upskill and reskill with training in MS Office, google apps and other basic IT skills. VCA has IT bootcamps and IT certifications that will help you transition to a better career with higher pay.
Preparing students for workforce through our IT bootcamps
As businesses become more and more technology driven, students who plan to enter the workforce in the near future may not be quite ready for the employment landscape that awaits them. Many students aren’t equipped with a learning curriculum that goes beyond the basic high school courses required to graduate. They’ll have an essential need for tech skills to get high paying jobs, if they want to meet the demand for IT skills.
Unfortunately, many teachers don’t have the digital training to educate their students with the computer skills that they must have to meet an employer’s needs. At VCA we can train students through our IT bootcamps to give them the necessary skills to prepare them for the workforce.
Virtual STEM, coding clubs for girls
At VCA we’re introducing more and more girls to STEM education through coding clubs. Our affiliation with Girls Who Code provides us with the ability to provide after school clubs for girls to learn coding in a safe online environment for a virtual experience.

Before the covid-19 pandemic ravaged the world, after school activities like sports, music groups, language clubs and other extracurricular activities held a standing appointment on students’ social calendars. Social distancing has removed these programs from schedules all over the world, leaving many children with a gaping hole in their after-school learning. VCA offers IT training programs in a virtual learning format through zoom and skype. Students will learn programming, mobile apps development, Microsoft office, python and other digital skills.

Choosing A CRAM System Is Like Buying A Garden Hose
The different day I went into Home Depot to buy a lawn hose. Ever do this? All I wanted was a easy garden hose. Except it wasn't so simple. I found that Home Depot truly sold dozens of different kinds of lawn hoses. There are fifty foot hoses and hundred foot hoses. There are hoses on wheels. There are vinyl hoses and rubber hoses. There are hoses made by way of Exogenous, Craftsmen and Tenor. And the prices variety from $eleven to $eighty two. This is the hassle with our society. There are too many lawn hoses to pick from.
This enjoy taught me what it looks like base camp alternative while a small commercial enterprise owner is searching out the right hosted Customer Relationship Management (CRAM) device for his commercial enterprise. There are dozens of correct CRAM programs available on the market today. Just like there are dozens of suitable hoses to be had for sale at Home Depot. Unless you're a complete time gardener you're actually not going to recognize that is the best hose for your needs. And until you're in the CRAM enterprise you will be just as clueless when it comes time to investigate CRAM applications.
What is a CRAM software, you ask? That's the smooth element. It's a database. Of people and businesses that do business along with your corporation. A exact CRAM database guarantees that nothing falls through the cracks and you do not look like a dope.
By not falling thru cracks, I mean that the database continues music of some thing pending for a consumer, dealer or partner. Calls to be made. Appointments scheduled. Forecaster sales. Potential opportunities. Outstanding fees. Open carrier troubles. A precise CRAM system has calendars, interest lists and paperwork in order that this type of information would not fall thru the cracks. It has reminders and automated emails. It has the capacity to agenda follow-united states for others to your corporation. And all this facts should be shared among your personnel. Nothing receives forgotten. Nothing receives omitted.
And you should not look like a dope either. Because there may be nothing worse than when a salesman innocently calls a purchaser to promote your new product but he would not know that the same client is livid with an ongoing carrier difficulty. So your RM system must be capable of song a history of smartphone calls, appointments, emails and other sports with each and all people who does commercial enterprise together with your organization. You have to be capable of run reviews on those sports. You should be capable of speak by means of mass letters or emails to a group of clients all sharing not unusual information so you can ship them an alert when there may be a protection issue approximately a product they bought or a collection message to anybody who has blue eyes, green hair and lives in Michigan if that's the type of factor you like to tune.
That's what a terrific CRAM device does. And in case you're seeking out a CRAM utility to your organization, permit me be your gardener right here. So you may not get hosed. I'm going to propose my favorite hosted CRAM applications.
Please understand that selecting a hosted CRAM gadget is a cultural choice. The blessings of a hosted system are many: they are usually brief to stand up and jogging, can be accessed from everywhere and require less cash up the front to get began. But be cautious - a number of the commercial enterprise owners I know are worried approximately the downsides: among them is that your records is hosted by using a person else out of doors of your business and the long time price (which generally involves paying month-to-month expenses in step with consumer) has a tendency to be notably better than simply buying a machine outright.
Hosted applications have grown in reputation over the years. I suggest five. They are, Sugarcoat, Microsoft Dynamics - CRAM, High rise and ZohoCRM. Of these, my company sells Microsoft CM and ZohoCRM. But I love the others too - I simply don't have enough assets that allows you to carrier them. All of these applications have the features mentioned above that guarantees not anything will fall the cracks and you may not be searching like a dope.
base camp alternative is the most widely recognized of the organization - it is mature, well written, clean to use and extremely popular. I like the fact that they've their own passionate developer network and platform and its discern enterprise is publicly held and a thought chief inside the industry. Reporting is exquisite and its provider and collaboration equipment are most of the quality in the business. But be careful - there are small business services but to get the whole advantages you could spend as a good deal as $125 in step with month consistent with user for the product which may be prohibitive for a whole lot of businesses.
Sugarcoat could be very similar to Sales force. Com however it's priced a whole lot lower at handiest about $50 consistent with month according to person. There are three huge blessings to shopping for Sugarcoat. For starters, the organization is attempting difficult to construct a companion channel so give up users will have neighborhood support and schooling. By assessment, most of the hosted programs I've come upon are offered and serviced at once by the software program maker. Sugarcoat gives both a hosted and an in-house product for people who need to pick. So if you're now not satisfied with the hosted surroundings you are no longer stuck. But the largest benefit to Sugarcoat? They provide source code with their product. This way that if you need to combine your gadget with other structures, like your website or accounting database or in case you want to carry out complex customization (and have the expertise to achieve this) you could dig into the entrails of Sugarcoat to make it do precisely what you need it to do.
My company sells Microsoft CRAM Online so we recognize all about the good, awful and unsightly about this presenting. What's good? The $forty four in step with month per person charge, its Microsoft Outlook interface, Microsoft's massive channel of Certified Advisers like (ahem) ourselves and its complete CRAM function set makes it a mature desire for every person seeking out a Microsoft-based solution. What's terrible? Microsoft has been gambling catch-up with this product and seeking to position it as a better opportunity to Sales force. Com, its archival in this area. So even though the capabilities are quality for a small enterprise, its customization is lacking. But that is about to change - Microsoft is releasing its 2011 model rapidly that allows you to be as customization as its on premise solution and, extra importantly as Sales force. Com. They'll additionally lower back it with a big marketing and aid attempt. As a (ahem) Certified Advisory of Microsoft CM on account that 2005 I can attest that the community round this product has grown a ton during the last few years. I'm a fan.
The final two hosted packages are notable for small work groups (much less than ten human beings) who need to get a simple however powerful CM up and walking quickly.
ZohoCRM is most effective $25 in keeping with month in step with person (it is loose for the first three customers with some much less functions) and, to me, is a negative man's Sales force. Com. That's why my business enterprise offers this product: our customers tend to be in the main negative, especially across the time our payments come due. Oho has received many awards in the industry and has a full set of functions to ensure nothing falls thru the cracks and nobody looks as if a dope. It integrates with Outlook and Google Apps. And it is a part of a collection of Oho products for doing tasks, documents, billing and different tasks. Oho isn't always as customization as a number of the opposite programs discussed above. And its determine draws maximum of its control and all of its support from India that may on occasion be a bit frustrating. But our clients using it are not complaining. The charge is proper and the software works well.
High rise is a candy, little CM software made via the best human beings at 37 Signals. High rise is awesome low-cost, costing handiest $24 in line with month for six customers and as much as $149 per month for limitless customers. I like High rise as it's a simple touch supervisor that works with a bunch of different hosted programs for customer support, sales and advertising and marketing and business productivity. There's a programming interface for in addition customization, and great little iPhone app too. Plus I'm a massive fan of 37 Signals' base camp alternative software for dealing with projects which may be very much like High rise. The downsides? High rise is at its heart only a contact supervisor and it's nonetheless in its early days as compared to a number of the others products I discussed. It's a work in development. But I have faith in the enterprise who makes it.
See? Now you recognize which hosted CM packages to have a look at and now you have an excellent idea that is pleasant on your enterprise too. But right here's a few more excellent news for you. I'm not that pimply child from the hardware segment who'd as an alternative be home listening to Jay-Z then supporting a customer choose the proper garden hose. I'm the quick little bald man from suburbia who IS supporting you select the proper hosted CM machine for your enterprise. I desire I had this type of advice after I turned into seeking out that lawn hose! And I want I had a few Purcell after shaking palms with that kid at Home Depot too.

What Step Was Acceptance Again?
I'm in the last leg of my time away from my job and I've finally decided to accept some bits of my personal existence that I just won't be able to change.
For the record, this is going to be me whining about my current station in life and just generally feeling sorry for myself, so if this isn't what you were hoping to see or read, I'm at least being up front here and now so you can save yourself the headache and find something more entertaining or joyful on the internet.
I go back to work in 3 weeks, which sounds like a long time away, but for me it's going to pass in the blink of an eye and to be honest, I'm not sure I'm ready. Not that I don't want to go do something constructive and use my skill set that's been getting lazy, but I just don't know if things are going to be better or more of the same tired bullshit I took the break to escape. Also, I'm worried about the potential animosity that will follow because my co-workers will definitely be happy for my return, but they've been struggling with bullshit for the past two months without me and that shit wears THIN after a bit. So, that's another thing sitting at the back of my head as this return date approaches.
In this whole time off, I was hoping to find something "extra" to do that might bring me joy. I will be straight: I haven't. And I won't. I had all these grand ideas and things I wanted to accomplish and I'm working on the important things: going to the gym and exercising, trying to make sure I take my diabetic medications like I should (brb, need to go take my insulin shot), I have an appointment with a dermatologist in the next week to look at a sore that seems to have issue with healing that has prevented me from having "adult relations" with my wife for over a year, etc.
So it's not like I'm not doing anything, but as for trying to order my house, make things easier for my family, finding a set schedule, setting up rules and operations that would help keep things easy and functional have all floundered. I started "vlogging" and after about 2 weeks of solid attempts, I bailed. I straight bailed. It was a hassle to update daily and when I didn't do anything of any intrinsic value, it was hard to keep updating on people that I'd crater in and watch anime or YouTube for most of my day until I had to pick up my kids or my wife.
And the YouTube thing was what I meant about trying to find something extra. However, I learned a lesson in all this: I'm boring AF if I'm not engaging with someone else. Me, alone, is BORING. Some can do it, they can tell their stories and they're able to engage people without ever having another living soul to work off. I'm not that way. I work best when I can have someone to work off of or work with; me sitting in my upstairs, with nothing much else but a wall behind me was about as entertaining as listening to a toddler try to explain quantum mechanics.
Writing has been about the only thing that I've ever been "somewhat" good at. I can get my point across, I can make my jokes or edit the dumb shit I say so this way it doesn't look like I'm a raging idiot. And for the record, this is all being written mostly on the fly. I usually write in Notepad, then slap this trash into Word for spellcheck purposes. I change very little that I actually write. I feel that writing what comes to mind and sticking with it is the most honest version of writing and I'm not here to yank your dicks around, I'm here to get all the stupid shit that bothers me off my chest and hope that someone else out there reads it, relates a bit and maybe feels a bit better about their situation if mine is worse.
Another part of what I was attempting to do during this break was to learn how to use my non-linear editing software. It's HitFilm Express for anyone interested, it's free, but has paid versions for extra perks. It's a lot like Premiere, so check it out if you're looking at video editing. There's very little I haven't been able to do with it and they do tutorials on YouTube and all that. Shameless plug for them because seriously.... this program is pretty bitchin for being free. But, even with that, I haven't fussed much with it. Two main reasons were: it's time consuming. Like really time consuming. And I just didn't have the time to invest in that. I'm trying to do laundry, I'm trying to make things in my kitchen or clean after my family (it's a job in itself) and the second reason was that most of my imagination is toast these days.
Sure, I can paint a colorful picture when describing a tech issue (most of my co-workers and clients get a kick out of my analogies), but I just can't come up with the shit I could 20 years ago. I turn 40 next month and I just can't think of things like I used to. I remember some of my old ideas and I just can't expand and when I attempt to develop something new, I can start, but I never finish. That's frustrating to say the very least.
I've also gotten to a point in my life where I'm not really wanting and I don't have any goals left to set. I have everything (besides money) that I will need, so I don't really have any desire to reach. I don't mind traveling, but that's not some big thing for me. Getting up early, flying, finding new plane, getting on it, spending time somewhere else.... it's work. It's not a relaxing time, it's like a scheduled event that I have to meet certain checkpoints otherwise it was "wasted".
I'm not really that creative with my art. I can't draw to save my life, unlike my daughter who is ALL ABOUT THAT and is pretty good. My son's into gaming and can literally spends HOURS doing it. After a while, I get bored. It's fun to play with friends.... well, online friends, but as they all trickle out, I get to a point where I'm just like, "Nope, gonna go do something else now..." and peace out. I don't play games for hours on end. I got Skyrim for free and I've played like 76 minutes of it because I know how involved it is and I just do not have the time to invest in it. I already isolate myself away from my family for the most part, don't need something to help facilitate that.
I don't wood work, I'm afraid of most power tools (saws especially).... I'm not musically inclined (got a keyboard and guitar in the house, they collect dust) and about the only thing I'm good at is modern electronics. I essentially have 4 smart TVs in my house, all with computers hooked up to them, but do nothing fantastic with them besides Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and use the Roku that's on all but 1 TV.
I've lost the desire, nay the zeal, to pursue anything more. So, I've decided to simply stop. Existing is tough enough, I think I just need to focus on that. Don't misconstrue that, I'm not about self harm or the like, if you've read my older stuff you know my opinions, but I just don't get excited about anything anymore. It's all mundane. It's trite. And I've spent so much time trying to find something, ANYTHING, that gives me that youthful fulfillment and I got jack shit.
This is about the only thing that I still find enjoyable, but I don't have stories in my head. I have one story in my head I've been working on since I was I think a freshman in high school, but it's a cringefest that if re-written by me today would be a completely different story.
And that's where I'm at. Just "here". And as much as I feel I should be doing more, I have nothing more to chase. I'd rather take a depression nap because at least after that I feel awake. Angsty 39 year old guy writing on Tumblr, ghost copying over to Twitter.... this is who I am. And, sadly, I'm indifferent. Man, I'm a sad, lonely crab. I really should find a hobby. Suggestions?
One last note: After throwing this long ass bitch into Word, no grammatical errors (yay), but I don’t know how to properly spell: existence, definitely, intrinsic, pursue and apparently Word doesn’t understand ‘misconstrue’. I guess acing English from K through 12 actually did something for me. Don’t ask me about adverbs or adjectives or any of that nonsense, I still don’t understand that shit.

13 Futuristic Healthcare Technology Advances of 2018 – ReferralMD
Let’s kick the 2018 New Year off right…
This is the 6th straight year, ReferralMD has written our Healthcare Technology Review and I wanted to say thanks to everyone for your support in making it the #1 most read healthcare technology publication review in the world.
Healthcare Acquisitions on the Rise
2018 is going to be a exciting year for healthcare technology as mergers and acquisitions are heating up. In 2017 alone, there were 43 acquisitions with Internet Brands acquiring WebMD leading the way at $2.8B.
So what does this mean for the future of insurance companies, health systems, startups, and patients?
It means we finally may see some significant changes in how healthcare is administered, improvements in patient access, lower wait times, improved revenues for health systems, lower costs, and much more…
(Huge Game of Thrones Fan, Can’t wait till 2019)
But hopefully the healthcare industry will not remain frozen in time for much longer.
Let’s Get Started (Read on…)
We have personally researched the web for a year to find the best companies that are making a difference and have compiled an amazing list below. Here’s to change!
1. Payer – Provider Analytics/Data
Blurring Lines between Insurance Companies and Physician Practices
Several carriers are already are giving health care organizations claims data, analytics and tools to help make better decisions on which providers are “more appropriate” based on quantitative data, not “Yelp reviews.”
It all boils down to high quality data, and who has it.
Screenshot of ReferralMD
An example of how this is used in a care coordinator’s workflow is when a patient is about to be transferred to a specialist after an initial screening at a PCP or insurance company. The coordinator at the point of care has full visibility to their referral network, provider affiliations (in-network status), accepted insurances, proximity to patient, experience of doctor, and even ranks the specialist on a quantitative score from 1 to 100.
Tools like ReferralMD’s referral management and econsult software can optimize decision support, improve workflow and reduce leakage.
Competitor Analysis
Referral data can also be used by physician liaisons to look up which competitors receive the most referrals in a certain geography based on specialty, location, and more to learn which companies would make the best partners based on referral volume. Another option is to look up your own doctors to see if they are steering patients to competitors.
How much are you losing to out-of-network referrals (Leakage)?

2. Artificial Intelligence
AI-Powered Medical Assistants
Most of us are used to chatting with our phones using Siri about the latest sport scores, or Alexa to turn on music, but how comfortable are we discussing private medical issues with chat-bots that may not all the information in their database.
While promising, AI is still in its infancy, but holds promise for patients today that wish to schedule doctor appointments based on the severity of the symptoms, monitor the health status and notifying a human nurse immediately if the parameters are out of control, help homecare assistants stay informed about patients’ evolution.
Here are a few applications that come to mind, although there are thousands, time will tell which will become successful.
The company, Kore.ai offers smart bots for healthcare facilities. The digital assistant can connect patients to the right contacts directly, give appointment details or make any changes. It lets the patients easily refill prescriptions or pay bills. It delivers lab, test or procedure outcomes or recommended next steps.
Safedrugbot embodies a chat messaging service that offers assistant-like support to health professionals, doctors who need appropriate information about the use of drugs during breastfeeding.
Izzy helps women track their period and serves as a birth control pill reminder.
Bots like Your.Md aim to help patients find a solution to the most common symptoms through AI. However, a chatbot never replaces an experienced doctor. The bot itself exhorts the user to book an appointment with a doctor for a diagnosis, and eventually for the prescription of a therapy.
Florence might be a very useful chatbot for older patients. It is basically a “personal nurse,” and “she” can remind patients to take their pills. You just write the name of the medicine in chat, the number of times a day you must take it and at what time. Then, Florence sends you a message in chat every time you must take the pill.
3. Blockchain for Healthcare
You have probably heard about Bitcoin and its explosive growth from $.08 cents in 2009 to almost $20,000 dollars in 2017. It uses the blockchain technology to exchange information with others.
So what is blockchain you may ask?
youtube
Effectively a blockchain is a kind of independent, transparent, and permanent database coexisting in multiple locations and shared by a community. This is why it’s sometimes referred to as a mutual distributed ledger (MDL) versus a single client-server database like your standard website where one owner controls the access credentials.
So how does blockchain apply to healthcare?
The end goal would be a decentralized record system using blockchain independent of EMR’s controlling the data. But as we know this will not happen until a government mandate or EMRs opening up their data silos.
How bad is communication in healthcare?
There are 26 different electronic medical records systems used in the city of Boston, each with its own language for representing and sharing data. Critical information is often scattered across multiple facilities, and sometimes it isn’t accessible when it is needed most—a situation that plays out every day around the U.S., costing money and sometimes even lives. But it’s also a problem that looks tailor-made for a blockchain to solve, says John Halamka, chief information officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
While it would be massively beneficial to patients and providers alike, it looks like the fax machine is hear to stay for another 10 years.
4. 5G Mobile Technology
Fast communication and healthcare are are not usually mentioned in the same sentence, but as wireless technology gets better we are starting to see how the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) will greatly improve patient lives.
Qualcomm worked with Dr. David Teece, Professor at Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley and Chairman and Principal Executive Officer of Berkeley Research Group, on a paper, “5G Mobile: Impact on the Health Care Sector”. Qualcomm Technologies Inc. (QTI) commissioned this report to assess 5G’s potential impact on the evolving health care sector as it begins a shift in focus from volume-based health care to value-based (outcome-based) health care which could generate upwards of $650 billion in savings by 2025, according to Goldman Sachs.
5G enhanced Mobile BroadBand (eMBB) could save you a trip to the doctor.
If you don’t like visiting your doctor, that’s fine, because soon your doctor may visit you. Well, virtually that is. 5G is expected to usher in a new age of greatly enhanced eMBB data rates and hyper connectivity, which will allow doctors to study and analyze numerous patient medical data feeds simultaneously and provide personalized treatment for patients.
5. Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)
Internet of Medical Things, or Healthcare IoT, refers to a connected infrastructure of medical devices and software applications that can communicate with various healthcare IT systems.
As an example, this can be thought of as simply as someone who wears a FitBit to track his or her steps; that step count is tabulated on an iPhone via Bluetooth technology; and then that data can be shared with a physician to provide feedback via Wi-Fi connection and automated reporting data, and it can also send that data to your closest friends and family.
What are the dangers of IoMT?
The greatest danger related IoMT is the high barrier of entry to truly disrupt the healthcare industry and to change the way disease is treated. There is a threshold for the speed at which anyone can execute on delivering these innovative solutions to a population and industry that so desperately need change.
Regulatory hurdles
With each change inherent in the introduction of these systems, there are massive regulatory hurdles that require significant amounts of resources, even more so than a typical medical device pathway to commercialisation.
And beyond the historically proven 10 years and $30M to take a medtech product to the US market, there is the added burden of competing in a commercial space against pharma and other medtech conglomerates that have 1000x more resources and power to squash any new competition, even if the solution is what’s best for the patient.
One of the latest announcements from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) confirms that the largest payer in the U.S. sees remote patient monitoring (RPM) as part of the future of care delivery. Why? Because next year, they will begin incentivizing use of connected technology to capture patient-generated health data.
Beginning January 1, 2018, clinicians can use the newly unbundled reimbursement code CPT 99091 to bill for the time they spend reviewing and interpreting data collected or transferred by a remote monitoring tool. The changes to this code will have significant implications for accelerating the adoption of remote monitoring tools into clinical practice.
How can clinicians position themselves to take full advantage of this new incentive, understand the changed guidelines, and determine how RPM could be incorporated into their practices? Read on.
What are the benefits of IoMT?
The benefits to introducing IoMT are vast, and certainly there are even more benefits to be discovered as we continue to grow our expertise in this space as an industry. But to name a few:
Objective reporting: Because the devices can record and report on actual activity at the level of the nervous system, we no longer have to rely solely on subjective patient reports of “how they are feeling”; instead, we have an objective evaluation of the disease progression andpatient therapy efficacy as reported by the devices,
Remote monitoring: Increased patient accountability as the healthcare provider will have a “report card” so to speak of actual patient therapy compliance instead of relying on accuracy of patient summary,
Local activity recording: Device recording capabilities allow for the collection data that we’ve never previously been able to access. This data will vastly improve our understanding of the mechanism of action of these chronic diseases. And if we understand the disease better, we will undoubtedly enhance our approach on disease prevention and therapy,
Automation: The automation of device and therapy records decreases human error or fraudulent reporting within hospitals and sub-acute care facilities,
Precision medicine: the delivery of targeted stimulation that is optimized for that individual facilitates improved therapy with decreased undesired side effects. When you take a pill, for the most part, that pill is metabolised in some fashion and then distributed systemically throughout your body regardless of its intended target. While much there are many advances to decrease these drug-related side effects, the level of precision we can achieve with devices that can steer stimulation to a specific target is of a much higher degree,
Adaptability: Because our systems are built on a feedback loop, the system iterates on that feedback and adjusts for improved patient outcomes.
Which Companies are Leading the Way?
One company that we feel that is really changing the game is Noteworth, a connected health platform that enables health organizations to prescribe virtual care models to their patients. They help clinicians collect and access contextualized patient-generated health data that improves care coordination and outcomes, reduces costs, and better engages patients.
Noteworth Dashboard
Easily prescribe tailored virtual care models to your patients and assign accompanying care instructions to them.
Receive visualized, usable patient-generated health data in continuous Noteworth Reports you can monitor at any time.
Set customizable alerts, called Focus Notes.
Streamline your documentation and optimize towards reimbursement goals with the Encounters tracker.
6. Update from 2017 – Tricorder XPrize
As you may have read from last years 2017 ReferralMD Healthcare Article , Final Frontier Medical Devices was awarded $2.5M from Qualcomm to continue improving their device and bring it to market.
More about the company:
Final Frontier Medical Devices, a Pennsylvania-based team led by brothers Dr. Basil Harris, an emergency medicine physician, and George Harris, a network engineer, took home the 1st place for their artificial intelligence-based engine, DxtER, that learns to diagnose medical conditions by integrating learnings from clinical emergency medicine with data analysis from actual patients. DxtER includes a group of non-invasive sensors that are designed to collect data about vital signs, body chemistry and biological functions. This information is then synthesized in the device’s diagnostic engine to make a quick and accurate assessment.
7. Breast Cancer Drug – Abemaciclib
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. First-line cancer DNA-creating proteins often get dismantled by chemotherapy, but BRCA genes have a backup plan that repairs the DNA and is carried out by poly-ADP-ribose polymerases (PARPs).
Eli Lilly’s breast cancer drug Abemaciclib is all set to hit the market very soon. It belongs to CDK4/6 inhibitors which have been shown to have the most positive effect on metastatic breast cancer, specifically in HER2+ breast cancers. Abemaciclib is armed with certain advantages over its rivals — Pfizer’s Ibrance and Novartis’ Kisqali — as it can be dosed continuously. The clinical studies results have put Abemaciclib roughly on par with its competitors in the first-line setting.
Updated results from MONARCH3 studies have bolstered the potential for this drug to be in the best-in-class category of cancer drugs. In July 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Abemaciclib a Priority Review tag, both as a potential monotherapy and combination therapy. Abemaciclib is estimated to enter the market in 2018 and capture a significant market share in this space. Sales are estimated to be USD 1,792 million in 2022.
8. Patient Engagement
The global patient engagement solutions market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 16.2% over the next five years, reaching $18.7 billion in 2022, according to MarketsandMarkets.
Driving the growth are an aging population, the increasing burden of chronic diseases and a push to get patients to assume more responsibility for managing their care.
Yet while patient engagement tools can enhance communication and help to improve outcomes while reducing costs, barriers such as patient data security and lack of interoperability persist and could prevent the market from reaching its full potential, the report says.
Dive Insight:
Patient engagement is a hot topic these days. During HIMSS17, a number of surveys made the rounds showing patients are using technology to engage with their health, though providers could do more to support the effort.
In the first half of 2017, digital health funding hit a record-breaking $3.5 billion on 188 deals, according to Rock Health. Patient engagement was one of the top categories, along with consumer health information, EHR/clinical workflow and analytics and big data.
As organizations continue the move to value-based care, some hospitals and health systems are adding chief experience officers to the C-suite. In 2016, 44% of healthcare organizations reported having a CXO and 39% of those reported directly to the president or CEO, according to a Vocera Communications survey.
9. Centralized Monitoring of Hospital Patients
Alarm fatigue is a top technology hazard in hospitals nationwide. The sounds that come from monitoring systems in hospitals can desensitize staff in critical situations after long periods of exposure. Nearly 44% of in-patient cardiac arrest cases are not attended to appropriately and 90% of all alarms in hospitals aren’t actionable.
Centralized monitoring provides an off-site monitoring of patients by technicians to give patients and clinicians a second set of eyes while providing better care from a distance. Technicians communicate directly with the caregivers on-site.
Using sensors and high-definition cameras, clinicians can monitor blood pressure, heart, respiratory rates, pulse oximetry and more easily. An alert is generated that alerts caregivers on-site that help is needed. A recent study that evaluated the system reported a 93% survival rate of cardiopulmonary arrests using the systems.
10. LDL Cholesterol Drugs
There is a new class of LDL cholesterol lowering drugs that are expected to be disruptors in the next year. The new drugs are expected to lower cholesterol to unprecedented levels.
When taken with a Statin cholesterol lowering drug, the new class of drugs is expected to lower cholesterol levels by 75%.
The small interfering RNA therapy to lower LDL was also a new innovation in 2017. They are given twice a year instead of monthly or weekly like other treatments.
Dr. Leslie Cho of the Heart & Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic suggests that we will continue to see a new class of agents to lower LDL levels in 2018.
Statin drugs could one day be an over-the-counter drug, said Cho.
youtube
11. Gene Therapy for Inherited Retinal Diseases
Gene therapy for inherited retinal diseases is expected to receive a number of FDA approvals in 2018, if not late 2017. Currently, there are no known treatments for the rare diseases, but the growing research of specific genetic etiology may soon restore vision loss in patients.
Recombinant AAV2 vector encoding a functional copy of the RPE65 gene is expected to receive FDA approval in the next year to treat retinal diseases that are caused by biallelic RPE65 mutations.
According to Dr. Aleksandra Rachitskaya of the Cleveland Clinic’s Cole Eye Institute, the gene therapy won’t cure blindness completely, but will instead preserve the vision that is already there. However, there are currently retinal implants out there that help cure blindness and researchers are using stem cell therapies to combat retinal diseases. She also said that a new methodology called optogenetics, which involved modifying cells to function as other cells, could bring new hope to treating the diseases.
12. Hybrid Closed-Loop Insulin Delivery System
The most anticipated disruptor of 2018 will be the hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery system, better known as an artificial pancreas. It is the next step in creating a fully-automated delivery system.
In 2016, the FDA approved the first hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery system. The system is designed to help manage Type 1 diabetes. It is a fully automated insulin delivery system that connects a continuous glucose monitor with an insulin pump, eliminating the need for people with diabetes having to test and manage their insulin levels themselves. Studies have shown that the system steadies blood glucose levels and has even dropped A1C levels by a half percent.
Jim Young, chair of the Endocrinology & Metabolism Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, said it’s not quite an “artificial pancreas” because it doesn’t perform all of the same functions of a pancreas, but it does handle the insulin function well.
Young also suggests that it has taken so long to get to market because of a “fear of failure” – too much or too little insulin could be a problem.
An example is Medronic, which has stepped ahead of the pack last September when it won FDA approval for its MiniMed 670G artificial pancreas hybrid closed loop system, making it the 1st system of its kind to win clearance globally. While the system isn’t a stand-alone artificial pancreas, as it requires entry of carbohydrates and a baseline blood sample, it is a significant step toward the development of a fully capable closed-loop solution.
13. Non-Invasive Diabetes Monitoring
Apple is reportedly working on a “super secret” medical project: building sensors to monitor blood sugar levels without piercing the skin and has hired a small team of biomedical engineers to work at a nondescript office in Palo Alto, California, miles from corporate headquarters.
They are part of a super secret initiative, initially envisioned by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, to develop sensors that can noninvasively and continuously monitor blood sugar levels to better treat diabetes, according to three people familiar with the matter.
Such a breakthrough would be a “holy grail” for life sciences. Many life sciences companies have tried and failed, as it’s highly challenging to track glucose levels accurately without piercing the skin.
More than 29 million people in the US suffer from diabetes, and many struggle to keep the condition in balance. “On average a lot of diabetes patients aren’t achieving what they want, and that’s all about their glucose control,” Jake Leach, senior VP of research and development at glucose monitoring system maker Dexcom, told us.
“So if we can provide them with better information to make better decisions on managing their diabetes, I think we can get some of these better outcomes that are going to ultimately reduce the cost of managing diabetes.”
