A Holiday Romance (1 /4)
Fandom: NCIS Hawai'i
Characters: Kate Whistler, Lucy Tara
Summary: AU. There is nowhere like Festive Falls at Christmas time. For Kate, it is the perfect place to unwind while burying her grief. For Lucy, it is a place to hide away as she processes her recent trauma. When their paths meet, there is an instant spark. Will the magic of the holiday season encourage them to open up their hearts?
* * * * * * * * * *
For the first time in months, Kate wakes naturally. The winter sun warms her through the pale curtains, the sun lulling her out of her deep slumber. She sighs heavily and refuses to open her eyes just yet, in no hurry to move from the soft mattress and warm sheets that cocoon her.
It had been late by the time she had fallen into bed last night, her train from Washington running behind schedule and there had still been a two-hour cab ride from Boston before she had arrived in Festive Falls. It had been dark and all she had seen of the town were the pretty Christmas lights that hung from the store fronts, making the frost on the ground sparkle. After a quick shower to wash away her day’s travels, she had pulled on her new flannel pyjamas and curled up in bed, sleep coming quickly. It had been the best night’s sleep that she has had for a while.
It has been a crazy few weeks for Kate. The offer of a new job had come at just the right time for her, as she was starting to grow restless. She loves working for the D.O.D., but she also feels ready for a change and a new challenge. Plus, she can’t wait to get out of D.C., she has never been much of a city girl – too dirty, too many people, too much traffic.
Cara had accused her of running away and maybe there is some truth to that, maybe she is using the move as an excuse to end their relationship instead of confronting the reasons why they keep arguing and why Kate stays late at work every night. It isn’t working, she knows that; she knows that she doesn’t love Cara, she never has, no matter how hard she has tried. It has always felt like something is missing – the spark that she reads about so often. She has wondered more than once if she is chasing something that only exists in novels and on television.
So Cara had gone and Kate had packed up her apartment, ready to turn her life upside down and move five thousand miles away next week. The trip to Festive Falls had been a last-minute decision. It wasn’t her first choice, there is a town a few miles over that kept coming up in her research, but there were no free rooms in any of the hotels, so she had picked Festive Falls – charmed by the photos she had seen online. All she wants to do is make the most of her free time, something she doesn’t get to do very often.

Nuther 72 km.
I had snacks and two water bottles which should have been enough for the mountain. I spent the first 20 km trying to decide if I was going to do it. Because I was not feeling quite right and had those doubts I did not try.
As an alternate task I pushed very hard on several parts. I did Prospect Point hill in my second best time. I held between 250 to 350 Watts for that climb. It is short enough to not blow up, I felt almost comfortable, but on the edge of not.
I went through Kits and Spanish Banks and up that UBC hill. I tried to stay above 250 Watts. I did a couple of kph over my usual pace. I felt suitably punished.
I am in good condition as by the end I was not really tired. Had I done the mountain I would have been in survival mode. I have a weird thing about that hill. I have never failed to summit it if I ever started it. Sea level to 920 ish meters. Getting to the top is very hard, and that is only half of the ride. It is a total head game.
I will get it done in August. Hopefully twice.
I should get one more ride in for July. I have already topped last years July. Getting back on track now with all these distractions done. I have my Granfondo ticket and hotel reservation in Whistler. Its about 5 weeks away.
It is a long day that ride. I am well past the "if I can do it" stage. I know I can. There are thousands of people faster than I am. There are thousands of people slower than I am. It is very hard work, but it is fun. Yes I mean it. Fun. It is a celebration of being alive.
I am still alive if I can do it.

Dusk , CA, U.S.A.
Tumblr media
*info about the town, for all who partake in the O.A.K. universe with my muse. Feel free to inquire more about Dusk.
In short if you know about the fictional town of Sunnydale. From the btvs series. Its like that. A mystical convergence, or hot stop of supernatural/paranormal activity. Why? no one knows.
theres a town curse; have to live there at least 7 years, or one of the founding families. Just don't die there if you fall to the town curse
Owls ,and Cats are the towns "guardians" they protect the locals ,and at time those who visit the area. From creatures/things that wish them harm. But be warned, you only have nine lives, as the cat can only save you that many times. ref
The town is more agricultural , then Sunnydale, as well as not near Monetary ,as Sunnydale is. There is a forest, and mountain range near by
Best pancakes ,at Earl's Diner. There is no chain business, maybe one. But Star-bucks seems to have a difficult time opening a coffee shop. If you need coffee either Earl's diner or Midnight Owl cafe (i forgot the name I used in my book)
The Owl’s Nest Hotel, is a good place to stay, clean not bed bugs
the eight sisters, are large natural formations, like a tall rock ,etc. And they are not mundane. But rather supernatural. Yet no one knows why or what
Emilie notes
Emilie lived there from middle school // 6th grade to graduating high school.
Lived in the Whistler Manor house, with its resident Ghost,Boris Whistler, died around the 1920s/40s. ( FC Jack Lemmon )
still worked ,part time,as a gravedigger.
class of '99 / or 92 I haven't picked yet

This route takes you through some of the most picturesque spots in Alberta, making it one of the top choices for family vacations. Let's explore how your family can enjoy the best of the Canadian Rockies on this memorable road trip.
 Day 1: Arrival in Calgary
Your family vacation kicks off in Calgary, a city that blends modern charm with a touch of the Old West. After checking into your hotel, explore the city by visiting the Calgary Tower, where you’ll get panoramic views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. If you’re traveling in July, the Calgary Stampede is a must-see event with rodeos, parades, and entertainment that’s perfect for family vacations.
 Day 2: Banff National Park
From Calgary, you’ll head to Banff National Park, one of the most iconic family vacation spots in the Rockies. Start your day with a visit to the Banff Gondola, which takes you up Sulphur Mountain for breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Afterwards, take a leisurely hike around Lake Minnewanka or enjoy a paddle on the lake’s serene waters. Banff is also home to the Banff Upper Hot Springs, where the whole family can relax in mineral-rich, naturally heated pools.
Day 3: Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
No family vacation to the Canadian Rockies is complete without a visit to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Start early to avoid the crowds, as these spots are famous for their striking turquoise waters and dramatic mountain backdrops. Families can enjoy canoeing on Lake Louise or hiking the scenic trails around Moraine Lake. These stops are excellent for family photos and offer some of the most picturesque views in the Rockies.
Day 4: Icefields Parkway and Columbia Icefield
The next leg of your journey takes you along the Icefields Parkway, often cited as one of the most beautiful drives in the world. This 144-mile stretch of road between Banff and Jasper is a highlight of family vacations in the Rockies. Stop at the Columbia Icefield, where you can take a guided tour on the Athabasca Glacier. Kids and adults alike will love the Glacier Skywalk, a glass-floored walkway that extends over the valley, offering a thrilling view of the landscape below.
 Day 5: Jasper National Park
Day five brings you to Jasper National Park, a haven for wildlife and another top spot for family vacations. Take the Jasper SkyTram to the summit of Whistler’s Mountain, where you’ll find short trails and scenic views. In the evening, stargazing is a must as Jasper is designated as a Dark Sky Preserve, meaning the night skies here are remarkably clear.
Day 6: Maligne Lake and Spirit Island
Maligne Lake, known for its crystal-clear waters and the stunning Spirit Island, is an unforgettable part of any family vacation in the Rockies. Boat tours of the lake are available and offer some of the most striking views of the surrounding mountains. Skiing Safety Within The Wilderness A Heli-ski Primer
Skiing in powder is very comparable to skiing hard packed slopes with a few specific variations. Although in some situations leaning again is warranted, it normally solely causes fatigue, makes for unnatural movement and gives you drained thighs (quadricep muscles). The hands ought Heli skiing to be positioned comfortably out front where you'll be able to see them. If your arms path behind you, the physique usually follows and you discover yourself leaning back in that unnatural locked up stance. You should exaggerate many motions including rotation to make a flip in that position.
Because of the inherent dangers involved in heli-skiing, Canada’s operators take safety extremely critically. At TLH Heliskiing, every guest is issued a Vario ABS avalanche survival backpack. Heli-skiing is not always perfect, it's mountain skiing in a completely uncontrolled setting. The aim is to provide the greatest skiing out there every single day however since we don't management the climate, one of the best skiing some days could also be very tough and/or in the bushes. The Association of Canadian Mountain Guides and the Canadian Ski Guide Association supply training and accreditation for guides, HeliCat Canada says.
There are a number of completely different resorts and helicopter corporations to choose from, so you'll find the best package deal on your capability degree and price range. If all or a half of your group is excited about heli-skiing, Whistler is a great vacation spot, as it supplies something for everyone! Kids can be part of a ski faculty program for the day whereas they expertise unbeatable massive mountain terrain by helicopter. There are a couple Heliski of primary ski resorts in British Columbia that offer heli-skiing, together with Whistler Blackcomb, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and Panorama Mountain Resort. All these resorts provide totally different terrain and different levels of difficulty, so it is important to choose the right one for your capacity stage. A great information will assist elevate your heli-skiing experience from good to nice.
With over one hundred fifty,000 acres at our disposal, our heli and boarding terrain is both vast and breath taking. I can see how skiers get hooked on the expensive heli-ski behavior. After having millions of snowy acres to ourselves, it is onerous to return to the confines and crowds of the common ski resort. I was also reassured that safety Heliskiing is high precedence, with the guides' constant snow pack and avalanche evaluation, I can make the educated argument that you're safer heli skiing than driving to a ski resort, or skiing a busy trail. Snow Conditions Snow circumstances vary significantly over winter and alter almost every day.
Imagine infinite miles of big-mountain terrain so far as the eye can see, and an ideal slope of untracked powder beneath your skis simply waiting to be ripped. You drop in along with Heli skiing Canada your buddies, turn on the Go-Pros and make your individual ski porn. This and rather more comes with the ultra-adventure experience of heli-skiing. Our most unique package deal
Coté started flying helicopters in his early 20s, however – like Doty – he didn’t get into heli-ski piloting for a while. He’s lived and worked in Revelstoke as pilot since 1995 but didn’t begin working as a heli-ski pilot till the final 20 years. “You’re dealing with terrain – steep terrain – and difficult terrain, and obstacles. After savouring the previous few minutes in his mattress, Doty is up at 6 a.m., in his truck, and out to the Hillcrest Hotel for the STHS morning meeting Heli skiing BC. The meetings cowl everything from weather, snow circumstances, to passenger weight (which elements into gas calculations) and guaranteeing the all-important half mile of visibility. “Everyone to my left,” Gertsch says as he leads us down a billowy slope near the remote southeast fringe of Glacier National Park.
Today, Bell 212 helicopterscan ferry teams of up to 10 skiers and two guides. Half a century after helicopters first transported daredevil recreational skiers excessive into the mountains of British Columbia, heli-skiing continues to be the last word alpine rush for many. Every run leads via unspoiled snow — a resort skier may not get this many fresh tracks in a whole season. If I had my climbing skins on, it will take days to ski an identical quantity of vertical. The firm Gmoser founded—headquartered in Banff, Alberta—now has gross sales reps around the world and a fleet of 11 lodges throughout B.C. CMH is the titan of the industry, however with tens of millions of dollars of capital invested in lodge infrastructure, it has to remain nimble to keep beds and helicopter seats stuffed in the face of competition.
