The Danger of Black Henna Tattoos: A Cautionary Tale from Bali

An Australian mother has issued a warning to travelers about the hidden dangers of black henna tattoos after her nine-year-old daughter suffered a severe allergic reaction, leading to scarring. Kaitlyn Salter from Melbourne shared her experience, highlighting the risks of getting a tattoo in Bali in a shop that didn't prioritize safety and hygiene.
During a visit to Kuta beach, Salter's daughter, Imogen, opted for a temporary henna tattoo. Initially, Imogen chose a turtle design, but another artist persuaded her to switch to a wolf design. The second artist began drawing the new design without warning, setting off a chain of events that turned a fun holiday activity into a nightmare.
Two days later, Imogen's arm blistered and became painful. Despite applying antiseptic cream and later using antibiotics and antihistamines, her condition worsened. The reaction resulted in a painful scar that required frequent doctor's visits and additional medication. Salter noted that the first doctor in Bali thought the reaction would clear up, but it worsened upon their return to Melbourne, necessitating stronger antibiotics and burn cream.

Salter regrets not knowing about the potential dangers of black henna tattoos. She shared their story in a Facebook group for Bali tourists, warning others about the severe allergic reactions that can occur. Her post received numerous comments from others who had experienced similar issues with black henna tattoos.
Unlike natural henna, which is typically chocolate brown or mahogany, black henna contains paraphenylenediamine (PPD), a chemical used in permanent hair dye. PPD can cause allergic reactions in up to one in five people, making it a risky choice for temporary tattoos.
Salter's story underscores the importance of being cautious when considering a tattoo in Bali. Choosing the best tattoo studio in Bali can help ensure safety and avoid harmful reactions. This cautionary tale highlights the need for awareness and careful consideration when opting for temporary henna tattoos.

Akureyri: Day 1
The trip to Akureyri was started with strong wind and hail in Blönduós. The wind blew so strong I didn’t even realized I dropped my phone on the was to the bus stop, but luckily I found it before the bus got there so I managed to catch my bus on time.

I arrived at Akureyri around 3pm, it was drizzling but sunny. You have no idea how happy I was to finally be able to see something resembles a big town (let’s face it, it’s still Iceland. It’s no metropolitan city). I turned on Google maps to find Izza’s place, while enjoying the paved roads and cute shops on the way. I was soon faced with my number one obstacles: uphill street and heavy backpack. After what felt like half an hour of ‘hiking’ and losing my breath, I soon heard someone shouting my name.

I first met Izza when she was in Bali. Her boyfriend at the time did my tattoo, and she was there to assist him. She’s originally from Poland, but moved to Akureyri. As a housewarming gift, I gave her the best present I could find from my luggage: A packet of Indomie. After a quick catch up and a house tour, we went back downtown to the restaurant she’s working at. On the way there I found this very cute yarn Bonn installation on the side of the road right in front of the Akureyri Art Museum. After a few minutes we arrived. The whole street was filled with clothing stores, bookshop, gift shop, bars, even ice cream shop. We went in few of the stores to look around, and I found some cute small gifts to bring home.

She went to start her shift, but I went around to enjoy the streets. There’s this big bookstore that sells not just books but Scandinavian-style home products, office supplies, even vinyls. I took a quick look at the vinyl and found a complete discography of Rammstein! I tried hard not to scream but I was visibly shaking, partly because I haven’t eaten anything since morning. But instead of vinyls I ended up buying a book about Icelandic jumper. Bye boys.
I went back to the restaurant to get some food, and was greeted by Izza. I ordered the house burger and a beer that she recommended, and insisted that it’s all on the house. The place itself was very crowded, the most crowded place I’ve been since I’ve landed in Iceland. She served my the food and beer, and in my opinion the beer was the best one I’ve had here so far. The taste is pretty similar to Small Hazy so it kind of cured my homesickness a bit. After I finished my food I went to the bookshop to read the book I bought at the coffee shop inside. The book was so interesting I didn’t realize that the place was closing until the waitress came up to me. I went back to Backpackers to hang out there while waiting for Izza to finish her shift. I wanted to get White Russian for the evening but they ran out of the main ingredients so she made a custom cocktail that’s basically coffee liqueur plus Baileys: a Spiked Iced Latte. I enjoyed my coffee’ while reading my book. Few minutes before closing time one of the waiter asked me whether he could take my half-empty chocolate milk. I immediately apologized and told him I’ll finish it as soon as possible. He apologized for disturbing me and went back to the bar. It was pretty awkward. Few minutes later, while I was busy with my book I caught him sneaked on me and took my glass while he thought I wasn’t looking. Later I learned that his name is Tobias.

After everyone was done for the day I was invited to the back door and we were planning to go to some music event. Izza brought 4 bottle of mini Prosecco to drink on the way. The rest decided to split up, but me, Izza, and Johana went to Kaktus, a place next to Akureyri Art Museum. Turned out there was a small rave and we went in. Everyone knows everyone there, as a complete stranger who can’t even speak the language strangely I didn’t feel anxious at all. It felt familiar.
I have to admit, it was so nice to be around this kind of crowd again after getting holed up in Blönduós for three weeks. It was mostly locals, and I managed to talk to some of them. I shared a cigarette with Monica. It was a very cold night, and even with an extra layer I admitted to her that I still feel chilly. She put her jacket on me, and she only wore a tank top and a bra. I insisted not to, but her jacket was super warm it felt like a hug. We were talking about Bali when all of the sudden her boyfriend came to us and started arguing with her. Things got a bit awkward for us who had to hear that convo, but luckily the tension was broken when someone started a conversation with me.
That night I learned so many crazy things about Icelanders, but the one that gave me culture shock was when I was talking to this 31 years old guy named Benedict. He’s very friendly and eve though we just met, after a couple minutes we talked as if we knew each other for a while already. At first when he started talking to me I was a little cautious, but then he revealed his ring finger and told me he’s engaged with three kids.
“This is the second and the third. Four and two years old” he said, while showing me the picture of his boys.
I did a quick math in my head and got slightly confused, “how old were you when you had your first?”
“Fifteen”
I almost fell off my seat.
Later when I was queuing for the bathroom he came up to me to show me the picture of him and his 15 years old daughter.
After dancing and finishing the rest of our Prosecco, we head home and went to bed straight away because we have an adventure waiting in the morning.

wildflower | t. holland
yes this is inspired by the song wildflower by 5sos (i am a 5sos stan and am in calum’s lane just in case anyone was wondering)

tom was away on press tour for far from home, you had spent some time with him, but had to go back home to london after a week due to your summer job. the plan was for you to go back as soon as you got another break that was long enough, but that didn’t come for what felt like forever.
you had spent downtime with your friends, usually inviting them to your’s and tom’s shared flat, but today you guys were in the city for some fun. you and your friends had done a bit of shopping, ate lunch at a really nice cafe, and were now back walking around. your friend callie had spotted a tattoo/piercing parlour across the street and dragged you and your other friend isabella into the shop.
“you both have to get something done!” callie said as you guys waited at the front. “i’m getting my nose pierced, and you guys should get something done too! it’ll be fun!” her enthusiasm was something you admired about the short blonde girl. you looked at isabella who let out a sigh of defeat knowing that if you both didn’t agree with callie, she would continue to bug you both about it.
“fine, but only because bella’s doing it too.” you began regretting your decision as soon as the words left your mouth, but it was too late. the person at the front desk was already handing the three of you cork clipboards with forms under the metal binding, pens attached by a piece of yarn. the three of you sat down in the waiting area, filling out your forms, as you decided what you were going to get done. a piercing? you didn’t really know what else you wanted pierced. but a tattoo? a small voice in your head told you to get the bundle of flowers you always wanted tattooed.
after callie had gotten her nose pierced, isabella was next to get a small crescent moon tattooed onto her ankle. you both held one of her hands as she sat in the black leather chair, white sock half on, needle repeatedly piercing her skin as the ink began to settle underneath the top layers of her skin. you realized you were next as the tattoo artist, who you previously learned was named julian, cleaned it and showed isabella how to properly maintain it to prevent an infection.
as you sat down in the chair, julian began asking about the design you wanted, which you quickly sketched for him. a few flowers bunched together at the middle of their stems with some string was soon going to be on your body for the rest of your life.
about an hour and a half later, your tattoo was finished. you looked at yourself in the mirror, turning to the side to see the art that was placed on the side of your ribcage, smiling as you saw the ink. the three of you left that shop grateful for callie’s impulsive decisions.
•••
about a month later, you joined tom on the press tour. after meeting him, sam, harry, and some of the cast and crew at the airport, you guys had finally settled down as much as possible in the villa that sony had rented for tom.
you were spending only a few days in bali, and on your time off in the villa, you all would hang out in the pool. you kept your (tom’s) white t-shirt on, the pink bikini showing through, while just sitting at the edge of the pool, but your bikini was on under it in case they bugged you about getting in. they were playing a game that you didn’t understand the rules to, but involved a ball and trying to get it to the other side of the pool. they had invited you to play, but you just sat by and watched, laughing every time one of the boys made a ridiculous play.
“come swim y/n! don’t be boring,” sam jokingly said, calling from the other side of the pool. you rolled your eyes at the twin and shook your head at him.
“sorry i don’t want to die getting in the middle of your game,” you jokingly said back. of course, you weren’t going to die, but they were being a tad too rough for your comfort. sam laughed at your remark, and swam over to where you were sitting. “are you bored of this already or do you also not wanna die?” you asked him. he chuckled and hoisted himself up so he could sit beside you.
“don’t want to leave you all alone best friend.” best friend. the nickname he had given you when tom said he was leaving to film for avengers: endgame, given to you for no reason other than you had joked around that you would become best friends with sam while tom was gone. you smiled at the nickname.
“yes!” tom exclaimed. you watched as he started jumping at the far end of the pool, slamming the ball against the water. harry’s hands went to cover his face in defeat, knowing that tom would bring this up for the rest of the trip. tom swam over to you, placing himself in between your legs, and puckered his lips. you kissed him, and you swore his smile grew if that was even possible. when he pulled away he asked you to get into the pool with them. sam decided to go back in and go play that game with harry. “please,” he practically begged. you sighed as he put his hands together.
“fine.” you stood up to take your white t-shirt off and put it on a pool chair not too far away from the edge of the pool. as you turned back around you heard a gasp.
“wait stop. turn clockwise a little bit.” you turned until tom said stop. “lift your left arm.” you did as he said, knowing he had spotted the tattoo. you looked over your shoulder and saw him standing in the pool staring at you. he got out of the pool to come inspect your inked skin closer. “when did you get this?” he asked, surprised.
“like a month ago. do you like it?” he nodded. relief washed over you as you realized he wasn’t upset, but rather obsessed with the design. you put your arm down and turned to face him.
“i love it wildflower.” a confused look painted your face as you tilted your head to the side. tom smiled at your reaction. “you know, because you’ve got your wildflower tattoo! i truly am a genius,” he boasted and you laughed. he pulled you into a hug, his thumb caressing your tattoo. “my wildflower.” his grip on your waist tightened, and before you knew it he had thrown you into the pool, splashing both twins. as you came up to the surface you glared at him then wiped the water off your face.
“you are in for it, holland.” he smirked then jumped into the pool.
“come get me wildflower!”

What were your favorite things to draw when you were a lil kid? I knew I wasn’t an artist the moment I started experimenting with pens and markers, and the only image I liked to keep - and was capable of - drawing on repeat was your usual kid’s portrait of a house with a sun and clouds lmao. I never learned how to draw anything else.
Do you think there is something with or around you, like a spirit, angel, ghost or something else? How does this make you feel? No, never.
Imagine you’re a stranger looking at yourself. What things would immediately catch your eye? Probably the way I’m scowling at stranger-me staring at me-me.
When did you feel the most confident in your life? Not sure when I’ve felt the most confident, but I typically feel so whenever I get something I’ve been desiring and working hard for, like getting a job offer or being accepted to my dream college or passing a really difficult exam.
Do you think love is needed to have good sex? For some people, no. For me, loving one another is an absolute must. < Yes, hits the nail on the head for me.
Do you think, or want to, die in the city you currently live in? I don’t think it would matter where I die, as long as it’s not from a terrible freak accident.
What is the strangest thing you have ever encountered? That time I went to Singapore and a sex toy shop was casually blatantly standing in the middle of Orchard Road for families to stroll pass. It’s not objectively strange, of course, but it was definitely a big culture shock. Putting up sex shops in the Philippines is basically a game of who can find the best spot to hide them in.
Favourite soft drink? I never drink soda, so I don’t have a favorite.
What do you like to put gravy on? Fried chicken or steak.
Have you ever gone canoeing/kayaking? Yes, in Palawan.
What is one thing you know about your family history you’re proud of? I come from a line of datus from both precolonial and colonial Philippines. The most exciting part about it is that it technically makes me a princess, or at least our local version of princesses haha. I’m also distantly related to one of the three women who sewed the first Philippine flag.
Who depends on you the most? Kimi and Cooper, surely.
Are you related to anyone famous or historical, if so who? See two questions above. Coming from my datu ancestors, my relatives also continue to serve in the local government of our family’s province until today. Not that I’m particularly proud of them or show this off whenever I want because they are all very vocal Duterte supporters and regularly engage with him and his family, so *barf*
Would you ever donate a kidney to anyone, and who? If it ever comes down to it, I’d offer one of mine to my dad, Angela, and either of her parents.
What is the main quality you think makes a great parent? They recognize when they’re wrong and know to acknowledge it and apologize.
What three things do you think of most of each day? Tasks I have to do for work for the day, tasks I have to do for the rest of the week, and financial concerns.
Does/did your high school have pop machines? No, of course not. Are there schools that are ok with selling soda? :/
Do you know anyone who’s won the lottery? Not that I know of, but then again these things are shared in secret so there’s always that chance of possibly knowing someone who won the lotto at some point.
Have you ever slept in a water bed? Never slept but I’ve played on one.
How often do you use Flickr? I haven’t visited that site since I was like 11. Not even sure it still exists.
Who is the last child that you took a photo with? I think my cousin Toffe, but it was most likely a family photo that the two of us happened to be in. I don’t have a lot of photos with my younger cousins and kids in general.
How often do you wear hats? Never. I always think about getting a bucket hat of my own but I just never go through with it.
Would you ever get a nature tattoo? I never even entertained the thought before. But considering Hayley’s albums and songs have like a million references to flowers, it sounds like a good idea now :)
Is anyone in your family sick at the moment? My paternal great-grandma was recently confined in a hospital but she’s been discharged. I have a grand-aunt who suffered a mild stroke a couple of weeks ago and is currently recovering.
Where do your siblings work, if anywhere? They are both still studying. If I had to guess, my sister would probably end up in the film, media, or advertising industry, if not a freelance artist.
Where is your favorite place to buy groceries? If I had the money for it I’d get my groceries at Marketplace, but I’m content with getting ours from SM or Robinsons for now.
Who do you generally talk to the most? Probably my immediate family and my team at work.
Is anyone saved in your phone under a nickname? Not anymore. I use nicknames on my friends more frequently on Facebook Messenger.
Whose birthday is coming up? One of my cousins’ birthday is on March 31.
Have you ever ordered from an informercial? No, never.
When, where, and why did a needle last pierce your skin? Around a month ago when I was embroidering. I usually accidentally prick myself from time to time.
Have you been to an escape room? Was it a success? Nah, not really my idea of fun. I’m a little weak at problem/riddle-solving :(
How many followers do you have on Instagram? I literally never use my Instagram except to lurk and look for influencers to potentially tap for work. The account was initially my one-photo-a-day-in-2020 dump, but I stopped in April last year and now we’re in 2021 it doesn’t even serve a purpose anymore lmao. But for some reason Bea asked for my account and still followed me (and is the only person following me), which I’m sure she already regrets.
What’s the most recent music video you watched? Thoughts? Continued the next day. Jessi’s What Type of X. Killed it as always.
Have you ever recorded a cover of a song? Never.
What makeup products are your go-tos? None.
Are you going to school this year? No, not anymore. I did that for the very last time in 2020, and I don’t see the point in going back for an MA because I feel like I’m already covered.
What is your favorite water activity? I’ve only ever tried kayaking, but that was a very pleasant memory.
What are your favorite video games? I’m not a super passionate video game fan who’s always up-to-date, but I do have a soft spot for games I bonded on with my family when I was a kid, like Grand Theft Auto (very inappropriate for a kid to be playing, I know lol), Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros.
Do you like jello? I never got over the texture, so no.
When was the last time you gave someone "the finger?" Not sure when exactly but it happened recently, maybe a week or two ago. I suddenly thought about my ex and flung both fingers around just for myself lol.
Have you ever held a snake? Yes, I got the chance to hold and take a photo with one on my trip to Bali. I was the only willing one in the family.
Most unique place you’ve ever been to? Baker’s Hill in Palawan is what I would imagine seeing if I ever took drugs and had a trip of some sort. Most random place ever.
If you were a superhero, what color would your cape be? Continued from...I don’t even know anymore. Just know it’s been nearly a week since I first started this, lmao. Idk maybe gold.
Have you ever slept out on your porch all night? We don’t have a porch. We do have a rooftop and I’ve fallen asleep there a couple of times. I only do so when the climate is cold, though.
Do you like horror movies? Sure, but I haven’t watched any in years. Just have never been in the mood for it for a long while now.
What’s your favorite Coke product? Blech, I hate soda.
Watergun or water-balloon war? Water gun. I’ve never been hit by a water balloon but I imagine it hurts?? so I wouldn’t want to experience it if I never had to.
Do you know anyone that’s afraid of elevators? I know my sister and grandma are claustrophobic but they’re not ~deathly~ afraid of elevators.
Is there anything in your room that belongs to a boyfriend, or a friend of the opposite sex? I don’t think any of my guy friends have lent me stuff that I got to take home, so no.
Who’s your favorite Beatle? I was never a fan. I remember pretending to be, back when liking The Beatles made you look all cool and hippy and trendy... but I honest to god just couldn’t get into their music.
Have you ever texted an ex whilst drunk? How’d that go? Yeah just once, super super way back when I was still thought remaining friends with her was the way to go. It was fine, I didn’t message anything horrific and we were both chill about it the next morning.
Do you have to stand on your tip-toes to kiss your boyfriend? I don’t have a partner anymore but yeah, I used to. I think? Maybe? I barely remember anymore. I definitely did have to tilt my head up quite a bit, though.
Have you ever been tackle-hugged? I can’t remember if I’ve received one. I’m usually the one who gives them.
Have you ever rejected someone’s kiss before? I don’t think I’ve been in this situation before.
Is your mood or the overall tone of your day often affected by the dreams you had the night before? Just for like the first half hour of waking up, especially if it was a nightmare or a triggering dream. The more I wake up the more the dream fades away, and the sillier it feels that I was affected by it.
Do you think that there are any positive aspects or outcomes of suffering from a mental illness? If you have a mental illness, do you think it has changed you for the better in any way? No. Sugarcoating mental illness doesn’t sit well with me at all. I know I’ve learned to be gentle and understanding towards other people because of the emotional abuse I’ve received in my own relationships, and I absolutely hate that it’s because of mental illness. I shouldn’t have had to learn to be kind because I was treated shittily first.
What is your opinion on celebrity culture and celebrity worship? Have you ever been guilty of putting a celebrity on a pedestal? Do you think it’s somehow more acceptable/understandable to obsess over certain types of celebrities (musicians over YouTubers, say) than others? At what point do you think an obsession like that crosses the line? I sometimes think it’s silly when fandoms fight and defend their favorites as if they know them personally, but I’m heavily into my fair share of celebrities and I honestly don’t see anything wrong with it. As long as you’re not hurting anyone or doing anything stupid like stalking your favorites, you do you.
If you were to pursue a career in photography and had the opportunity and means to photograph whatever you wanted, what would most like to photograph? People.
Is there a certain type of clothing (outerwear, activewear, loungewear, etc.) that you enjoy shopping for more than others? Cute tops.
Are you ever afraid to post your ideas, artwork, photography, etc. online for fear that they will get stolen or not credited? No, because I am not even creative in the first place and can’t make any form of art to save my life.
When is the last time you did something sexual? Last night.
Who is the last person you showered with, if anyone? My ex but that would’ve been ages ago. It was super rare that we absolutely had to shower together.
What do you think when you see roadkill on the side of the road? Sad and kinda disgusted if the guts are out, but also relieved that they don’t have to suffer in pain anymore.
Have you ever had an ex that just didn’t understand that it was over? Yeah, me. Luckily I came to my senses a few months ago and have felt better and been better ever since.
Are your fingernails currently short or long? They’re unequal lengths because I’ve been either biting or picking at them over the last few weeks, but for the most part they are long enough to need to be clipped.
Would you rather have big or small dogs? Big.
What is your favorite sports drink? I don’t drink any of them, so none.
What was the last compliment you gave a guy? I told my dad the dinner he made tasted excellent.
Does your jaw ever crack, pop, or lock? I don’t think my jaw has ever made a sound before, hahaha.
Have you ever thought of how you would give your kids “the talk”? No, but I think it’s also relevant to note that I live in a very conservative country where sexual intercourse is never discussed, especially within families; and that it’s virtually unheard of to hear of people until my generation to have been given the talk. I had to find out all by myself, and I remember being very confused when we were being taught the reproductive system in fifth grade because they only taught about the organs and their functions, and never anything deeper than that.
Luckily the last conservative generation was Gen X, and younger generations have been a lot more open-minded. And if I had to guess, I’m fairly certain Millennial parents would be more willing to give their kids the talk.
Do you ever feel like you’re missing out on something? I mean, my 20s, thanks to Covid.
Do you ever write/draw on windows that are fogged up? Yes.
If you were married, and your spouse’s parents became ill, would you let them move into your home? Of course.
Have you screamed in a pillow before? Probably.
What do you like more, acoustic or electric? Electric.
Did you actually have a cookie jar? No.
What’s worse, having someone mad or disappointed in you? Disappointment is more gut-wrenching. I feel more hopeless and helpless when someone feels that way about me.
What do you bite on more, your tongue, lip, or nails? Definitely my nails. Lip-biting isn’t a habit of mine and I only ever bite my tongue accidentally.
Do you think that knowing when and how you’re going to die would ruin your life? No. I would find that comforting, actually.
Do you have a favorite bromance? From TV or a movie. J-Man and Channy’s from Friends.
Do you find flea markets and thrift stores enjoyable? Sure.
What color is your wallet? Pink, but I def have to buy a new one soon as I’m still using the one my ex gave me...
Have you ever been somebody's photography subject? No, and I would hate to be. I don’t like being in front of the camera.
Nicki Minaj fan? I like a lot of songs by her but I’m by no means a fan.
Have you ever seen the Niagara Falls? Nope but I would love to.

You were grateful, you really were, for the people you knew were only getting tattoos from you because you were Tom Holland’s girlfriend. If that’s what brought people to your chair, so be it, you had your license, your apprenticeship would take as long as you needed to get down the basics of several styles of tattoos before you could become a “professional” and start to really specialize in one area. Bryce said you’d be an apprentice for around a year, just like he was. Which just meant very cheap tattoos, translating into working very long hours tattooing before going to your second job. It was silly, but you wanted to save up enough to visit Tom as a surprise and airfare was so goddamn expensive.
You worked at a grocery store near your apartment on the late shift, you’d tattoo, tattoo, tattoo, and then change into your uniform and ring the occasional customer in at the 24-hour store from 10pm to 3am, then collapse in your bed and sleep before starting it all over again. And airfare was expensive. But he only just left a little over a week ago for London and you missed him. You always missed him.
This client was a girl, 19, very excited about working with you, rambling on and on about how Spiderman is her favorite superhero and could you “please tattoo Spiderman upside down hanging by his web on my arm.”
You sigh, sitting her down and talking to her seriously about the tattoo, would she want it forever, would she get bored with it, will she be okay with sitting for upwards of five hours that it would take to get the detailing just right.
And she’d talk longer than you needed to hear about how important this was to her, how important Spiderman and Marvel and this was to her.
“Okay,” you would sigh because Bryce would tell you if the idea was there, don’t turn down a client, not when you’re an apprentice and you’re living off of charging 25 dollars an hour and tips.
And you knew she was going to ask, about halfway through the outline of the tattoo she does, they always do.
“So you’re dating Tom Holland.”
“Yes, I am,” you say with a forced smile.
“That’s cool. Always thought he was dating Zendaya, she’s really pretty.”
You hum, this was the first you’ve heard of that. But then again maybe your other clients that were fans of Tom were a little older or just had a better grasp of tattoo etiquette, including not asking personal questions.
“Was he dating her before he dated you?”
“So why’d you decided to get the Spiderman tattoo? Is Tom your favorite Spiderman? Or Andrew Garfield, Tobey McGuire?” You ask, changing the subject because one, you had no idea, two, it wasn’t this girls business either.
“I like Tom’s the best. I’m really excited for the new movie.”
“Oh yeah? Me too,” you grin.
The rest of the tattoo went by relatively quicker, she rambled about her ideas for Far From Home and you listened, taking in all her theories because you already knew what happened.
***
You and Tom arrived back at your apartment, he was practically carrying you, your arm around his back, head on his shoulder as your sleepy legs carried you up the stairs and to your front door.
“You know what happens in Endgame right?” He asks as you sleepily take off your clothes to get ready for bed.
“Yes, cause you spoiled it for me, haven’t seen it yet though,” you mumble as you both walk to the bathroom to brush your teeth.
“Oh you’re right,” Tom laughs, “sorry”.
You all but collapse onto the bed, Tom holding you tight against his chest.
“I like you spoiling things, I hate being on edge and I hate surprises.”
“Did you hate me showing up for your graduation?”
“No, that was a really good surprise,” you giggle as his hand brushed your hair off your shoulder, tickling you slightly.
“Want me to spoil the Spiderman movie for you?”
“Yes please,” you say, fingers running up and down his leg, laying on top of your own.
***
That night, after the Spiderman tattoo which you were quite proud of, you opened up twitter, you still had access to Tattoo Dice’s twitter which you never really used.
You don’t know exactly why you did but after scrolling through tweets with Tom’s name you came to a few tweets with him and Zendaya.
Wow.
She was pretty. Not just pretty, absolutely gorgeous.
You just kept scrolling, laughing at some tweets that talked about how they looked at each other during interviews, claiming that was ‘love’. It was funny to you, until you came across something rather nasty with your name.
It was a picture of you and Tom at Coney Island, Harry didn’t take it, someone else must’ve. You were being funny, each holding an arm of your teddy bear, swaying between the two of you.
“It’s like a kid,” Tom had laughed, and you turned pale thinking about a kid, your face slightly mortified before shaking out of it.
But of course, the picture showed your face scrunched up in mild horror.
Next to it was a picture of Tom and Zendaya on set of his movie, they were smiling wide at something they were being shown.
The caption made you grimace, “Tom and y/n versus tom and z, tell me again which one he’s dating”.
And maybe curiosity killed the cat because it also took a stab at you.
You were pretty confident, in your art skills, in your flirting, you’ve never felt insecure in a relationship before. But maybe because you were all of a sudden dating this big star and you now see that half of his fans want him and Zendaya to be together.
Each tweet was another chip away at your hardened exterior and you hated it, your mind telling you to stop scrolling but you just can’t.
“I don’t know who they’re trying to fool but one public outing with a girl he hooked up with back in March? Is that their way of saying him and Z aren’t dating? Clowns”
“Tom and Z have been dating since they wrapped Homecoming, stop freaking out over a post clearly made by his publicist”
“I mean it’s the worst scam, Tom looks like royalty next to a tatted gutter rat.”
Holy fuck people were brutal. Tatted gutter rat.
You felt tears well in your eyes, damn it.
Tatted gutter rat.
You laughed, a choked out sob of sorts, “tatted gutter rat,” you giggled.
Jesus.
You were about to exit Twitter, the toxic hell site it is when Tom’s goofy face popped up on your screen, showing that he wanted to FaceTime you.
You quickly hit the green button, shuffling up so your back was against your pillow.
“Hey,” he smiles before taking in your appearance.
You had a goofy smile but your eyes were red rimmed with tears.
“What’s wrong princess?” He asks, head resting on his hand.
“Do I resemble a tatted gutter rat?” You say, struggling to speak between giggles.
“I’m sorry, a what?”
“I’ve been told, haha,” told was a funny word, you were nosy and this is what it got you, “that I resemble a tatted gutter rat.”
“Well let’s see, I haven’t personally seen a gutter rat but I doubt you look like one. And hey, you’re my tatted gutter rat.”
You saw a twinkle in his eyes when he said you were his, making you bite your lip and smile.
“Wait, who’s saying you’re a tatted gutter rat?”
“Some rando,” you sigh as he runs his hand through his hair.
“On twitter wasn’t it?”
“Maybe,” you scrunch your face up, you’re a terrible liar.
“You shouldn’t look on there, I sure as hell don’t,” he laughs and you feel a wave of calm rush over you.
Thud, thud, thud.
Falling.
“Tom?”
Your mind rushes back to the tattoo shop, his “bye lov-,” that got cut off by your inopportune hang up. Did he- was he saying what you thought he said?
You couldn’t even think it. Because thinking it made it real and, fuck, that scared you.
Thud thud thud.
“What’s up?” He asks, tilting his head.
Fuck it. Internet fools be damned.
“I-, remember when I did my first tattoo? On myself?”
“Yeah?”
“And, I hung up too soon?”
“Oh,” he sighs.
Oh.
Oh?
You had a hard time telling what type of oh it was, his voice sort of muffled through your overseas connection.
“You want to know what I was gonna say?”
“Maybe,” you lied again. You did. You really, really did.
“Harry’s right, I’m an idiot for waiting.”
“What?”
“I should’ve, should’ve said it in New York but I don’t know I wasn’t there for long and-,”
“And what?” You ask, arm wrapping around your knees, pulling tight to your chest.
“I was saying, ‘bye love you’.”
You weren’t one to beat around the bush.
“Just like that?” You feel your lips curl up into a smile.
Thud, thud, thud.
Falling.
“I say it when I’m getting off the phone with family a lot.”
“So it's more just like a phrase you say, not like you meant it or anything.”
Because if he doesn’t say it now, if he avoids it then you can avoid the thundering roar of your heart against your chest, telling you to say it back.
“I usually mean it when I say it to my family, because I do love them, that is.”
His face is scrunched up and he looks a little hurt, bottom lip pouting slightly.
“So you’re off to Bali soon right?”
Nothing like a good old conversation change to stop the sinking feeling in your gut.
“I am,” He says, perking up.
And so you talk and talk until you notice his eyes start to droop and his phone slowly slip out of his hand.
You think he’s asleep, his breathing even as your story trails off.
“Bye love you,” you whisper, voice soft and unsure. Not unsure about loving Tom. That was easy, he understood you, in a way nobody else quite did. He understood your underlying need to be in control quite often, your desire to make people happy through your art, your tendency to not finish movies because you fall asleep, things that individually didn’t really matter, but altogether made you you.
And you felt comfortable, sharing parts of yourself with him you haven’t with anyone else.
So saying “bye, love you” on the phone while he was asleep was effortless.
The part that you were unsure of, the part that scared you the most was the little nagging part in the back of your head that said he didn’t mean it when he said it the first time.
“Night, love you,” he mumbles as your FaceTime call ends.
Oh.
Thud, thud, thud.
You fell.

*breakdances softly* Thoughts on florist Magnus and tattoo artist Alec?
*waltzes aggressively* well i definitely do now
okay so like i am vaguely aware that you probably wanted me to actually create a story like i did for the other asks;

because listen, florist Magnus???????? i had never thought about it before, but that shit is THE BOMB
in indonesia, particularly Bali, flowers hold special significance both in the social and religious sense; they have meaning, they have history, and they have everyday uses and are a part of everyday life; people grow flowers at home, give them as gifts, have entire markets entirely dedicated to the trade of flowers. and yes, i know magnus is javanese, but this applies to pretty much all of Indonesia, including Java, and Jakarta has its own traditional flower market with flowers from all over the world and some of the sellers being in the business since the 60s, not to mention that many balinese ppl immigrated to Java and the two islands' histories are deeply connected. so nothing is even stopping me from believing that magnus' mom was a balinese migrant living in Java. which is exactly what im gonna do in this specific AU at least
So Magnus was actually born in Indonesia, where he lived for most of his childhood; until his mom suddenly died of a terrible disease and he was kind of thrown into living with his father, who, despite having him registered and being his legal guardian, had never so much as bothered to meet Magnus before this point
His father was also Indonesian but had long since moved to the US, so magnus' life was completely turned upside down. And despite providing financially for everything Magnus needed, asmodeus never really bothered with him beyond the basics; Magnus was pretty much self-raised
So for the whole time he lived with him, he ached with memories of his mom and his country. And what he remembered best about her was the flowers. The jasmines she used to grow at home, the unique smell they left on the water she used to wash his hair; the offerings of frangipani she would leave by their doorstep everyday, intricately sewn together and leaving the smell of both the flowers and the incense with them as they left to the ports; the flower boards she would give him on his birthday, different patterns every year, and somehow she would always find plywood and tahi cotok to make them the traditional way instead of the modern with styrofoam
Magnus refuses to let any of these traditions die; once he finally graduates and leaves his father's home (forever disappointing him in his refusal to take over his business) he dedicates almost all of the space in his home to a greenhouse where he can grow all of the indigenous indonesian flower species without worrying that they will die in the distinctly not-tropical climate of New York; he leaves offerings in his doorstep everyday, facing North for Vishnu, so as to bring harmony not only in his life but in his whole community as well. And he's a florist.
He knows both traditional indonesian flower meanings, and western flower language, and often mixes the two since the flowers in these cultures are so different. He makes bouquets, arrangements, and flower boards, keeping the tradition alive even when he's far away from home. This way he feels like he belongs, like he carries a piece of his mother with him everyday, and reminds himself that, even if he's been taken away from his home, it won't be taken away from him
It's pretty much only him in his shop, but his friend Dot also makes deliveries and helps him keep the shop running. He has a few regulars and all in all he lives a stable, happy life.
He meets Alec when he decides to make his first tattoo - a string of jasmines around his elbow, the national flowers of indonesia and also his mom's favorite. He chooses Alec both because of his mesmerising drawing style and his history of working and good recommendations from other dark-skinned people; his friend Catarina also tattooed at his shop, although with his sister, Izzy, who was the one who actually ran the shop
Alec is impressed by how well Magnus handles the pain; it's his very first tattoo and elbows are a bitch. Magnus doesn't tell him that after living with his father for so long he's used to the pain, but he does tell him about the meaning of the tattoo, the flowers, and his mom. He's surprised by how much he's saying to this guy he barely knows, but there's something about wanting to be distracted from the sting and having to be alone with this guy for who knows how many hours that keeps him talking. Alec listens to it quietly, focused on his work, and Magnus isn't even sure if he's actually listening, which kind of also works if he's being honest. Of course, Alec is; listening to Magnus talk is very nice, his voice is soothing and the way he talks about his mom and his passion for flowers is really touching, not to mention Magnus is just interesting; alluring, if you will. But he doesn't have much to add, so he listens
A few days later, Alec shows up at Magnus' shop, all private smiles and wandering eyes, and asks him for help with a birthday present for Izzy. He wants to make her something special, to thank her for her support when he came out and just support in general. It surprises Magnus, but Alec says that Izzy has always liked flowers and from the way Magnus was talking about it the other day, well, he seemed like a good person to help him with this present. He really wanted something to convey his gratitude
Magnus is pleasantly surprised that Alec remembers so much of what he said; even more so when he's careful not to step on Magnus' canang sari at the doorstep, with the incense still burning; and he's absolutely delighted when Alec says he wants Magnus to help him make an arrangement, not just make himself, and that he's willing to pay extra for his consulting (Magnus has never charged extra for consulting, because he really downplays his talent and work and loves sharing his knowledge; but it does feel nice to be valued and have his work acknowledged). So Magnus runs all of his ideas by him, shows him the flowers, and Alec carefully handles and smells them and listens to Magnus' suggestions and slowly makes his own based on what Magnus has been saying. Alec shows respect to the flowers and it's cute to see this big, buffy guy covered in weird tattoos and wearing a leather jacket going around and carefully handling the flowers Magnus grows.
Alec, on the other hand, is just fascinated by everything Magnus says and shows him, and his burning passion for what he does, and how clearly he likes to help people even if it means downplaying his own work
Wow this is actually starting to resemble a plot??? I'm shook
Anyway it takes them a long while to figure out what they want to do, and Alec actually ends up deciding on making izzy a flower board once Magnus mentions them offhandedly. Once Magnus assures him it's not offensive if he makes them with the proper care and respect for its meaning, they settle on working on that.
Listen I need excuses for them to interact okay. Also the idea of Magnus teaching Alec how to sew flowers???? Beautiful
Cue some gay shit, at least once Alec puts a flower behind Magnus' ear and tells him that it suits him, more often than not they find themselves having a lot of fun - Magnus teases him mercilessly over how bad at sewing he is, and Alec is deeply offended (except not really)
Once he even tries to challenge Magnus at doing something from Alec's element and see how well he does, only to be sent into the deepest despair when it turns out magnus is excellent at drawing
Magnus thinks he hears a muttered "of course" but he cant be too sure
Anyway they fall in love
Alec asks him out by making him a bouquet of magnus' favorite flowers, plus flowers that symbolize everything he loves the most about him (his uniqueness, his kindness, his fierceness, his determination in doing what he thinks is right, the joy he brings for everyone around him, his dedication to others, etc). Magnus all but swoons he is very charmed
They get married idk it always ends with them getting married when i have a say in it. Bonus points they get to be showered in flowers like in traditional indonesian weddings, which sends a very happy, very giggly magnus with petals still on his hair into absolute delight. Alec carries him bridal style to the bed and carefully takes the flowers off his hair and kisses him tenderly on their honeymoon and gggggggggggggggg.
Im gay and cant do this anymore im gonna get into a coma
Also, I will take this opportunity to just let it be known that y'all should feel absolutely free to take any and all of my posts as writing prompts; you dont need to ask for my permission to use the ideas, theres no way ill actually do them all and even if i do i dont mind that there are different versions of it going around; hell, i think that's amazing and exactly what fandom is for. Just link the post and if possible send me the fic because i'd be delighted to read it! What I'm trying to say here is, someone should write this
Also, I'm not hindu, so if any terms I've used are offensive or incorrect please let me know and I'll change it accordingly

How Can One Benefit From Having Tattoos?
It's quite surprising that after being accepted by nearly the whole lot of the world population, a small community still considers tattooed people taboo. If you prioritize over having a tattoo on your body, you may be overwhelmed by the innumerable life and health benefits of getting tattoos. That's why tattoo studios are regulated under the strict vigilance of health departments to maintain the safety of each client.

Through this post, you will get to know about a list of reaping benefits of drawing tattoos.
Boost up the immunity system
If you have prepared your mind for inking tattoos from the best tattoo parlour in Bali, you have made the best decision so far. Through recent studies, it is made clear that having tattoos induces the immune system's response and helps to heal faster. The moment your body detects entering foreign material, it directs antibodies to fight them back. Hence, the greater number of inking on the body positively enhances the immunity power.
Help in establishing self-esteem
When you make it possible to get a unique body feature on your body, you are supposed to gain that extra confidence just like after trying a new haircut. Thus, wearing tattoos acts like boosting agents on the human body and mind. From studies, it is seen that after getting tattoos level of confidence raises more in women than men.
Control pressure
Everybody knows the negative impact of ever-growing stress in human life. It is scientifically proved that after going through a painful tattooing procedure, stress considerably decreases. Thus, tattoos indirectly aid in maintaining good health and prevent serious ailments like headaches, bad memory, high blood pressure, and weight gain.
Beneficial for muscle repair
Individuals who strictly follow fitness regimens, like bodybuilders or trainers, must accelerate their bodies regularly. To attain that level of body ability, they have to minimize cortisone levels to respond to the changes faster than others. That's why wearing tattoos from the Bali tattoo studio is great for developing muscle mass, regenerating the body rapidly after physical activities, and many other reasons.
Help you in getting jobs
Till now, many people get skeptical about job security if got tattooed. Some current studies show that some expressive industries like clothing, advertising, and the fashion world tend to hire young and energetic employees with visible artwork on their bodies. There are some evident cases where people got employment just because of portraying their body art, which is completely compatible with that workplace.
Make vaccination successful
A vaccine is something that completely depends on its success rate. The efficient delivery with descends cost matters a lot in improving the efficiency of the vaccination. Recent research shows that inserting vaccines via tattooing procedure lessens the expenditure and enhances the efficacy of vaccines in treating a lot of chronic diseases.
Conclusively tattoo is considered an amazing peaceful art that will accompany you for a lifetime. There are multiple good reasons for people's craze over-investing in tattoo shop startup costs that can’t be ignored. Doing this master artwork from your favorite artist will help you be a new person with ultimate satisfaction.
