𝄞⨾𓍢ִ໋‎♪ the house across the bridge kita x reader, wc 2.2k warnings not proofread, inspired by ghibli film ‘when marnie was there’, idk <3
when you moved to the country, you weren’t expecting to meet anyone your age— and you definitely weren’t expecting to fall in love with a boy who lived there. maybe this summer fling would last you forever…
𓈒ㅤׂ 𝜗𝜚 kita masterlist ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡
𓈒ㅤׂ 𝜗𝜚 THIS was the first summer you spent away from everything— the city, your parents, and, well, anything you knew. you’d come to spend the summer in the country with your aunt, which she so graciously offered after you told her about how much you wanted to do something new, something different.
the train was long and uncomfortable, the seats stiff and the air stuffy. but outside, the view changed as you went from city to city, travelling further away. your aunt lived right on the outskirts of amagasaki, near the farms and green fields. as you began to enter the rural areas, the landscape shed its building skyline, and the concrete grounds were tenderly replaced with lazy fields bursting with crops and colourful flowers. it felt like an entire different world, leaving the city behind to enter the dream-like countryside.
stretching your legs as you got off the train, you spotted your aunt almost immediately— she had a loving, maternal-like aura, always wearing a warm smile on her face. the city’s train station was small and slightly dirty, with only a few people populating it.
before you could say hello, your aunt started squishing your cheeks. “my, [name], you’ve grown so much! the last time i saw you, you were tiny!” she said.
you gave an awkward laugh. “thank you for letting me stay, auntie.”
she shook her head. “no, the pleasure’s all mine. it’ll be nice having some company,” finishing her sentence, she gestured to a small, old-looking car. “should we get going?” smiling, you nodded.
—
“this was my old daughter’s room,” your aunt said while opening the door. “she moved out a while back, so it’s been free ever since. well, it’s yours for the summer now! feel free to make it feel like home,” looking around, you could tell it hadn’t been used recently— there was a small layer of dust on the furniture and the decorations were reminiscent of the trends from the last decade.
this wasn’t too bad! flopping onto the bed, you decided to take a small rest before dinner, in a few hours.
the next few days had been uneventful. you helped your aunt around the house, then stayed in your room upstairs, spending most of the time admiring the stark contrast in landscape here. it wasn’t until one day, when you were cutting tomatoes for lunch, that something happened.
“have you been around the town yet? there are some nice places to see,” your aunt asked casually. stopping to look out the window at the midday sun, you replied,
“i haven’t yet. have you got any recommendations?”
“oh, everywhere here’s nice!” she patted your shoulder as she passed you, carrying forks for the table. “tell you what. after lunch, you should walk around a bit! get some fresh air, it’ll be good for you too.”
humming in agreement, you went back to cutting tomatoes.
–
after a few hours of getting to know the countryside town, you came across a small river, connected on either side by an aged wooden bridge. on the other side of the bridge, there was a house, surrounded by fields and fields of crops– you assumed it was a farm.
but what was a farm doing in an isolated place like this?
your curiosity got the best of you– taking a cautious look at your surroundings, you crossed the wooden bridge.
“hello?” a voice rang out from somewhere around you.
your eyebrows furrowed in confusion; you must’ve been hearing things.
but the voice spoke again, this time closer to you. “are you lost? i usually don’t see anyone around here,” it said, tapping on your shoulder. letting out a sudden yelp, you stumbled backwards.
“oh… sorry. i didn’t think anyone would be here,” you apologised, turning around to see who it was.
it was a boy– your age, probably, with straight white hair, but the tips were black– as if they were burnt, and his skin was just slightly tanned, probably from being in the sun. in some strange way, he felt like someone you’d known before, someone you knew very well. his face felt familiar, but you’d never seen him before.
hm. how come you didn’t hear his footsteps? you brushed it off quickly.
the boy laughed a little. “oh, no, don't worry about it. are you new around here?”
you chuckled nervously. “yeah, could you tell? i live in tokyo, but i’m staying here for the summer.”
“for the summer, huh..” he repeated, stepping back a little. “you’re from the city? that must be…”
“different?” you said at the same time as him. he looked a little surprised, but he dismissed it quickly.
“it’s different, all right. not used to seeing fields and farmhouses like these around,” you commented, taking moments to gaze at the scenery around you. “do you live here?”
the boy laughed again. “yeah, i do.” walking towards the hose, he said, “hey, you’re interesting. i could show you around if you want?” following behind him, you replied, “that’d be great! i’m [name], by the way.” “oh, i’m kita. kita shinsuke– feel free to call me shinsuke or shin, i don’t mind.”
–
one thing turned into another, and now you were helping kita harvest one of the rice fields. despite it being difficult, he somehow made it look effortless, like he was just lifting up a few feathers. it was attractive— in some strange way. as the sun hit its highest point in the sky, the heat poured down on you two, and the sun made kita’s figure glow. turning to look at you, he explained how to do it. “so, you grab it here, and then cut it as low as you can get to the roots.” hesitating a little, you took hold of a handful of rice plants from their middle and went to cut the roots. “like this?”
“yep– just,” kita put his hand over yours and moved it down a little. as he did, he moved a little closer to you subconsciously. he smelled like the rice fields– earthy, warm, and slightly sweet; you held your breath when you felt his breath fan on your shoulder.
“-like that.” he finished.
“okay, so now i,” you let out the breath you were holding earlier. “just… cut it? like that?” you asked, while cutting off the roots.
kita took hold of the crops and beat them on the side of the basket before putting them in. “you’re a natural, [name], have you done this before?”
watching what he did, you went to cut another bunch. “i haven’t, no. and im sure im not that good,” you replied, embarrassed.
slowly, you got into a rhythm, and kita started conversing with you a little more.
“so, what’s it like? the city, i mean,” he looked at you.
feeling his eyes on yours, you blushed a little. “different. really different. i mean here, there’s a lot more… green, whereas over there, everything is just buildings and buildings…”
kita focused on the crops again. “oh. so what do you do over there?”
“oh, usually i just go on my phone, or something– there’s not much to do,” you replied, finding it a little boring just talking about your life. “so, shin, what’s it like living here? is it not lonely?”
after hearing his name, kita’s head perked up. “hm? oh,” he looked a little embarrassed.
“oh, should i not call you that? sorry.” “no it’s fine! im just.. not used to hearing it much, thats all. it gets lonely here sometimes, but it’s alright.” kita replied, banging the plants on the basket again.
it had been a good few hours, and you were getting tired. you stepped back from the line of crops, and kita did soon after.
“that’s so tiring! how do you do that all day?” exasperated, you asked. “doesn’t it get hot?”
kita sighed, and wiped the sweat off his forehead– it was causing his bangs to stick. you thought it was cute.
“it does get tiring. hey– i know a place where there’s some shade,” running the first few steps, he looked back to see if you were following. “if you wanted?”
the place kita was talking about was a flower field, not too far from the farms. in the corner was a tree, its branches big enough to span over the entire field. resting on the trunk, kita sat down– you flopped onto the grass next to him.
“it’s nice having someone my age here, finally,” kita said. up until now, you didn’t realise how pretty his voice was. it was calming, and gentle; you could listen to it all day.
“hmm? same here, i thought i was gonna be alone,” you laughed– kita laughed with you.
resting his head on the massive trunk, he continued, “doesn’t help you’re really pretty too. feels like im like, teaching a princess, or something.”
hearing that, your heart suddenly skipped– the heat did well to hide your flushed cheeks.
“if it helps,” you started, just loud enough for kita to hear, “i think you’re pretty too. and really sweet– im glad im not alone this summer,” flashing a short smile, you closed your eyes and soaked in the moment.
it was comfortable, lying with kita here.
–
you quickly fell into a routine during the summer– it was the same thing every day, but it felt different each time over. you’d help your aunt and chat with her up till lunch, then you’d meet kita and hang out with him until the sun started to set. your feelings towards him only blossomed more over the course of the holidays– like a flower bud. you two would talk about anything and everything, or just lie next to each other, basking in the sunlight. whenever you crossed the little wooden bridge, you felt lighter on your feet, as if you were in a fantasy land. and to be honest– that’s what it was like– you’d come to the country for the summer and fallen in love with a boy who lived in a completely different world to you. the farms were almost like a time capsule, stuck in the simpler, pre-industrial world.
sometimes, you thought about leaving everything behind for kita, but you knew better. you knew your family were waiting for you back home, and you couldn’t bring yourself to leave them behind for a boy you just met– you knew even kita’d say no.
so, you surrendered to the ever-moving, fleeting nature of time.
and soon, it came time to leave.
–
today was your last day seeing kita. you were waiting underneath the same tree, staring out at the endless flower fields.
“hey,” you heard kita from behind you. this time, you didn’t get scared. turning around, you studied his features one last time.
“hi.” you couldn’t bring yourself to look at him properly– it just brought tears to your eyes.
gently grabbing hold of your chin, kita lifted your head to look at him. “don’t cry, please, you’ll make me cry,” he said, his voice softer than usual. using both hands, you held onto his arm.
“i know, i know but…” your voice came out a little choked, small sobs making their way through. “i’m gonna miss you, shin,” you whispered, your voice cracking a little.
letting go of your chin, he closed the distance between you two with a hug. you just sobbed into his shoulder.
“i’ll never forget you, shin,” you said, muffled.
“me neither.” he broke the hug to give you something.
“here, that photo we took during the sunset. i printed two out so that we could both keep one.” taking one, you put it in your phonecase. “thank you,” you managed to say before your aunt rang you on your phone.
you both knew this was it. the flower field here would forever hold your memories together, even when you were apart. taking one last look at the field, and then at kita, you walked off. if you said anything now, you wouldn’t be able to handle it– you both knew that.
kita whispered under his breath, “i’ll see you later, my love.” having barely heard what he said, you looked back to ask, but he had already disappeared.
–
in the car ride to the train station, you made conversation with your aunt.
“thank you for letting me stay for so long, i had such a good time.”
she laughed. “sure, feel free to come back whenever you want. did you make any friends?”
friends– you thought of kita. smiling, you answered,
“yes i did– the boy who lives in the farmhouses?”
your aunt looked confused. “[name], there aren’t any farmhouses around here. maybe it’s some other house? did you get his name?” confused, you carried on describing to her. “the farmhouses across the bridge…” pausing, your aunt replied again. “oh, those.. no one’s lived in those for years now…” she sighed. “there was a boy your age a few years ago, but he died of tubercolosis. poor boy…”
you blinked rapidly. kita wasn’t— what was he?
a ghost? it kind of made sense; his white hair, his lack of presence, and how the world felt… surreal on the other side of the bridge.
but the feelings you felt were real. when he hugged you, it was real. there was something there between you two— a pure love, seemingly powerful enough to transcend time. it didn’t make sense to you; but all that mattered was those moments.
he said to you, “i’ll remember this forever,” but it seemed it was just you who remembered. and you’d hold onto this summer forever.
note first longfic EVER (longfic = >1.5k okay) oh my gosh. why do i actually kinda like this..... @phantasmaebg

A very confusing day in the Merpepito AU
Richarlyson is being weird.
...Okay, so Richarlyson is usually weird, but now he's being super weird! Maybe he's dying. He has a worm in his brain eating it or something. Oh! Or there is a sea cucumber growing between his ears!
Pepito isn't a doctor, but he thinks that Richarlyson might actually be dying. Because there's no other reason why Richarlyson would be hanging out with Apa Roier so much.
It's been a week since the Sky fell, and maybe Richarlyson got hit by a piece of the Sky and his brain started bleeding, because he's decided that he's Apa Roier's new best friend. (Which is crazy because Apa Roier doesn't have friends! He always says so.)
Every morning, Richarlyson sits next to Apa Roier at breakfast. He helps Apa Roier with his chores. He brings Apa Roier cups of water when it starts getting hot out. He eats lunch next to Apa Roier. He tells Apa Roier that he'll take care of his afternoon chores so Apa Roier can take a siesta. He eats dinner next to Apa Roier. He calls Apa Roier cool, he says that Apa Roier is the strongest Pepito he's ever seen, he says that he hopes that Apa Roier stays forever on the ship.
It's weird! Richarlyson has to be dying.
...But maybe Apa Roier is dying, too, because he's been talking to Richarlyson a lot over the past week. He saves Richarlyson a seat at the table between himself and Captain Celbi, but he's never saved Pepito a seat. He says that he's going to teach Richarlyson how to fight, but he won't teach Pepito how to fight.
But it's fine! Pepito isn't upset at all! Pepito is happy that Apa Roier is making friends... even if his new friend is the person who hates Pepito the most.
Pepito doesn't interfere. Pepito keeps doing Pepito's chores: helping Richarlyson and Pomme mop the deck, helping Mister Pac sort through foods in the kitchen, helping Mister Felps tie knots. Miss Mouse says that she's gonna teach Pepito how to do magic soon, and Miss Baghera wants to teach Pepito how to draw and read maps.
Pepito likes being a pirate. It's super fun! Pepito likes the ocean, and Pepito likes the stars- and his best friend, the Moon. Pepito likes helping around the ship. Pepito likes watching Captain Celbi at the wheel. (He's so cool!)
...Pepito just misses Ama Rivers and Apa Carre and Apa Mariana and Apa Quackity and Awuelo Foolish and Leo and Empi and Sunny a lot. And Pepito thinks that Apa Roier misses them, too.
He has to.
But Apa Roier has been smiling a lot, recently. He smiles when he's near Captain Celbi, and he smiles when he's with Richarlyson. Sometimes he smiles when he's with Pepito, but not always.
He doesn't smile when he's talking to Captain Celbi about Pepito's brother. Bobby always makes people sad, though, so Pepito doesn't think about that too much.
Pepito thinks about Pirate Things instead, because Pepito is going to be the Best Pirate Ever!
Apparently, Pepito is a really Good Pirate because Captain Celbi wants to talk to Pepito alone in his office!
Pepito is sooooooo getting promoted! He won't just be the ship's Pepito, he'll be the ship's Pirate Pepito. He'll get a fancy pirate hat and everything; Richarlyson doesn't have a fancy pirate hat, so Apa Roier is going to look at Pepito and pick him up and tell him that he's such a Good Pepito that he's going to sit with Pepito at dinner and teach Pepito how to fight!
"Now, Pepito, I called you in here for a very good reason," Captain Celbi says as soon as Pepito is sitting (evilly!!) in the chair in front of his desk.
Pepito nods, serious.
Captain Celbi takes that as a sign to continue: "I understand that you're Roier's son?"
Pepito nods. Pepito is Apa Roier's Pepito!
Captain Celbi sighs, relieved. "Okay, good."
And then Captain Celbi's face falls. He almost looks ready to cry- his face is all red and his eyes are all wide and he looks really super freaked out.
"What does your dad like?" Captain Celbi asks, face all scrunched up like he's in pain. He sticks his hands up under his hat and pulls at his hair so hard that his knuckles knock the hat off of his head. The pointy things on the top of his head lay flat, unable to be seen through his hair.
Pepito blinks. Apa Roier likes Bobby? But, no, Bobby just makes Apa Roier cry. Hmm...
Captain Celbi groans and slumps back in his chair, his wrists and arms covering his face.
"He's impossible," he moans. "Every time I've tried subtly asking him, he's just shrugged!"
That sounds like Apa Roier. He's never liked talking about himself. Pepito didn't even know his name until all of the other Ocean Pepitos yelled at and made Apa Roier take Pepito home.
"He's always just-" (Captain Celbi's Pointy Things twitch, and he pitches his voice up in an impression.) "-'Hey, man! I don't know, man! I like lots of things, man! I like fish!' Like!" (He drops his impression and his hands, sitting up in frustration.) "What fish!? We're on the ocean! There are lots of fish in the ocean!"
Pepito nods sagely. There are lots of fish in the ocean. Captain Celbi is very smart, that's why he's the captain!
Captain Celbi rubs his eyes with his thumb and pointer finger.
"He deserves something nice," he sighs, much quieter and much calmer. "Better than fish. He deserves... gold. Silver. Diamonds. Rubies. He deserves good things."
Apa Roier has never been one for shiny things. That's always been Apa Quackity, even though he can't ever afford anything shiny because of how many times the Sea Witch has blown up his house with Sea Witch Magic, and Awuelo Foolish, who is basically the King of the Reef.
Apa Roier likes fish. He likes Bobby. He hates pirates. He likes crabs. He likes blue and red coral. He likes Miss Niki's candy. He likes-
Captain Celbi looks at Pepito seriously. "I need your help, Pepito. I want to get your father a really nice gift. It has to be perfect."
Pepito looks at the notepad on Captain Celbi's desk.
Following Pepito's gaze, Captain Celbi slides the paper over along with a pen.
Pepito hums, and he thinks. What does Apa Roier like most?
Aha!
Pepito draws exactly what Apa Roier would like! Once he's done, he flips the notepad around to show Captain Celbi with a triumphant grin.
"Pepito," says Captain Celbi, smiling only a little, "that's a picture of me."
Pepito nods. Captain Celbi makes Apa Roier really happy! The perfect gift!
Captain Celbi sighs, and he leans across the desk to ruffle Pepito's hair.
"That's a good thought," he says, "but let's try and think of something I can buy him."
Ooooooh! Okay!
Pepito turns the page and starts to think again. Something you can buy...
Oh! Pepito knows!
So, Awuelo Foolish has this friend named Mister Vegetta, and Awuelo Foolish wanted to give Mister Vegetta the BEST gift ever. So Awuelo Foolish found the most perfect shell at the Bottom of the Ocean, and he put it on a string of kelp, and he gave it to Mister Vegetta, and now they're Best Friends! They have sleepovers every night and they kiss a lot, which Pepito thinks that Married Pepitos do, but Awuelo Foolish and Mister Vegetta aren't Married Pepitos yet, they're just Best Friends who make each other super happy.
So Pepito draws the shell, and he draws the string, and he even draws Captain Celbi giving Apa Roier the necklace.
He holds the picture up to Captain Celbi, and Captain Celbi grins.
"That's perfect, Pepito," he says. "The next time we're near a beach, you and I are going to find your dad the perfect seashell."
YES!! Another secret mission with Captain Celbi!
Take that, Richarlyson! You might be friends with Apa Roier now, but are you going on secret missions with the captain? Nuh-uh!
Pepito is the best pirate ever!!!

In the Night | Mingyu Drabble
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tags: fluff, just pure fluff, college boyfriend Mingyu, non-idol!au
Not proofread!
masterlist | Let me know your thoughts and feedback.
Tumblr media
You’ve known Mingyu for less than three months. The two of you met accidentally as you tried to grab the same textbook from the uni library and ended up studying together for a class you hadn’t realised you had together.
Mingyu was everything you have looked for in a guy- he’s soft, careful, funny, respectful, emotionally intelligent and hot, oh so hot! You knew since day 1 that it was a steep slope falling for him and it took you all your energy to stop yourself.
Every morning you’d give yourself the biggest pep talk about not falling for this giant little puppy of a man and he would say or do something that would make your heart flip into fifteen different pieces. A gentle “are you okay” when he can see you stressed out or a thoughtful donut he gets you if he knows you’ve been working hard. Even the way he shyly accepts you’re lunch when you bring extra for him has you’re heart melting. And when he cooks for you, you’re heart explodes into a million pieces and only his food can piece it back together to form a beautiful rose in place of the thorns you had in your heart.
Mingyu was right, the both of you were right. But you didn’t know if he knew this. You didn’t want to assume he knew this. Mingyu openly gives love to all his friends, you’ve seen it countless times. He just was a loving person. So it was very easy to assume you read the signs all wrong.
That’s why you did all you could to keep your heart and head in check. After the first month there was no denying that you’d fallen for him, it was pointless to lie to yourself. But you still tried you level best to keep the little infatuation in check (you failed but you want to be in denial about that for as long as possible).
Repeating the “Mingyu might only see you as a friend” mantra has worked till now, pretty well. But it is slowly failing you, especially today, as you both sit on the bench near the pier watching the Han river and the Seoul city skyline. As the sun sets and the chilly winds take its place along with the pink violet hues of the sky, Mingyu slowly shifted from his initial position on the other end of the bench to sitting close enough for your shoulders to brush.
“I’m cold.” Was his excuse and honestly you were slightly cold too and did not mind the warmth emanating from him at the moment.
You find yourself sighing at the peaceful sight in front of you. From your peripheral vision you can see Mingyu’s mouth curved in a pretty soft smile. You liked it when he looked peaceful and at that moment he looked legitimately ethereal.
Mingyu moving closer to you unleashed a confidence you’ve been suppressing for months. You give into the bliss of the view and slowly lean on him. You didn’t realise what you’d done until you feel your head touches his shoulder. It feels warm. You can feel the bones and muscles beneath his jacket when you lay your head.
You stay still for a couple seconds, gauging his reaction. He doesn’t move, in fact he is stiff as stone for a whole minute. A big part of your head if balding like a police siren but your heart feels good.
One minute or an eternity passes, the concept of time is not your priority now. But after a few beats you feel it. The muscular arm that comes around your shoulder. The hands that pause a second above your shoulder and eventually is placed there. The warmth that coursed through your body when you’re slowly pushed further into Mingyu’s chest.
Then you hear him sigh-not a painful, tried sigh of exhaustion but one of pure content. The smile that forms on your face feels as natural as breathing.
Mingyu and you have spent a lot of time together in the last three months- in the same physical space and otherwise too. But you’ve never been close physically. A random side-hug here and a handshake there when you meet or part ways for the day was the usual physical contact.
This was a domain neither of you’d planned on exploring and it felt good. It felt surprisingly amazing considering you’ve never been one for physical contact. In all of your existence you’ve never initiated or accepted physical contact from anyone expect your mother. This felt new.
New, exciting and comforting.
You expected your heart to race in a million directions but for once it felt like you’re heart was home.
“Thank you.”
Mingyu’s voice comes out so softly and silent that you almost miss it. You try to lean back and turn to look at him but he holds you still with his arms. You crane your neck to look at him, doing your best to contain the smile and blush creeping up your cheeks.
“For what?”
He looks down at you, his eyes glistening glimmering like re beautiful night sky filled with a thousand stars.
“For trusting me enough to be… here.” He looks at his arms around you and back at your face. You can see the tinge of red on his face too. He’s definitely biting on his inner cheek to stop himself from smiling like an idiot.
But when you smile at him fully he also breaks into a full shy and happy smile.
This makes you take the leap. And so in an instant you throw your hands around his neck and he is thrown aback. But mingyu is smart enough to come back to senses immediately and move his hands to your waist as he slowly pulls you into his lap.
The sensible part of your brain is screaming that it’s a public space and this is Mingyu and you might’ve just ruined your friendship. But tonight you choose to be an idiot. So does Mingyu apparently.
The both of you stay in the embrace for a couple the. You soaking in his scent and warmth, and him breathing you in.
He pulls back to look at your face. He studies your face and the blush that creeps up on your face make you close your eyes out of embarrassment.
“Hey, look at me.” He says as he lifts your chin up with one finger and you open your eyes to see him.
Mingyu smiles, you smile.
“Hi.” He sounds breathless.
“Hi.” You’re voice drips of anticipation and shyness
“Is this real?” He looks nervous. You chuckle as he bites into his lips.
“It is for me.” His grip on your waist gets slightly tighter and you’re flush against him. Holding your breath as you wait for his verbal response.
“Took you long enough.”
Mingyu laughs and it reverberates in your soul.
“Maybe we shouldn’t be doing this in public…” you suggest meekly. You’re scared he’s going to think you are a pervert and moving too ahead of yourself.
“Yeah sure.” Mingyu smiles his million-dollar smile. “Don’t worry, we can do this however we want it. No pressure.”
His words make you want to cry because how can one human be so understanding and kind. But instead you smile and give him a tight hug before you get up and offer your hand to him.
Mingyu beams at you from his place on the bench, his eyes are wet now.
“Is everything alright Gyu?”
“Never better angel.”
What are organs for if they don’t melt at everything this gorgeous, kind golden retriever of a man says and does!

just this once, okay?
kim gyuvin x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you find yourself sitting by the river, watching the sun dip below the horizon. the sky is a masterpiece of warm colors - oranges, pinks, and purples blend together in a stunning display of beauty. the water in the river glimmers in the light, reflecting the vibrant colors of the sky above.
as you sit and take in the beauty around you, you can hear the gentle sound of the river flowing by. the water moves slowly, peacefully, almost as if it's putting on a show just for you. you can see the outline of trees in the distance, their branches silhouetted against the bright orange and pink sky.
you close your eyes for a moment, just taking in the peaceful atmosphere around you. as you open your eyes, you see gyuvin, walking towards you, a soft smile etched on his face. he sits down next to you and takes in the same beautiful view. you can feel your heart race as he rests his head on your shoulder, and you lean into him, enjoying the warmth of their presence. “i swear friends aren’t usually this close?” you ask, your hand going to play with the ring on his finger which you gave him for valentines day.
“just this once okay?”
you scoff at his words and felt your heart go even faster as he captured your fingers and laced them with his own. “it’s more than okay.”
“the big day is coming up fast! you guys better fix up soon or you’ll make a big embarrassment out of yourself!” the coaches words drag you out your memories and her eyes land right on yours, her pupils burning into your own. after a short bow, you run to the stands and quickly start to pack your stuff up.
“where are you going?” your friend, hanni asks, handing you a water bottle whilst you stuffed your clothes in your bag. “i need to give my dumb excuse of a brother his lunch, please come with me i refuse to be around those boys alone.” you plead, watching as she hesitates before nodding slowly.  (a/n: i had to include my enha babies somehow)
“you mean you don’t want to be around gyuvin.” she frowns, knowing the history between the two of you. “you know i can tell heeseung to fix up so you don’t have to see him anymore.” she grabs a hold of your hands and you look up to her sadly.
“i don’t have a choice either way, im a cheerleader and he’s in the football team. what else am i gonna cheer for? the grass?” you squeeze her hand and pick up your bag, walking ahead whilst trying to get the thought of gyuvin out your head.
you arrive outside the boys changing room and quickly send him a message that probably wasn’t even legible but you could care less. you want to be out of the premises immediately.
“hiiii.”
you spin around and your eyes fall upon the youngest of the team, yujin. the only one who you could actually tolerate and weirdly reminded you of your brother.
“my little football player! how are you yujin, i hope you aren’t overworking yourself.” you grab his cheeks with your hand and smile at him fondly. you were used to yujin’s presence- after all he was gyuvin’s best friend. what you didn’t know however, is that yujin missed you so much. likewise to yourself, yujin found you oddly similar to his older sister and looked up to you in many ways.
“i’ve been good! heeseung is taking good care of me and i’m excited to play later on this week.”
before you could even open your mouth to respond, a hand slapped yours off of yujin’s face. “he’s not your little football player, plus don’t you have some flips to be learning?”  hanni rolls her eyes and held her middle finger up to the boy who towered over her.
“is everything okay?” you look to the side and muster up a fake smile to heeseung, throwing the bag which contained his lunch. “yeah just great, don’t forget it again please.” you rush off and drag hanni with you, failing to recognise the small wave which yujin directed towards you.
“have you actually spoken to him? like why he suddenly started acting like a dick?” hanni looks back ensuring he wasn’t anywhere near.
you frown as you tried to search for an answer. “honestly? i have no clue. he literally treated me so well i was basically in love with him and then just left. was i a bet or something?”
“don’t think of it like that. there has to be a good reason, he wouldn’t do something stupid when heeseung is literally his captain.”
and you were doing the opposite. you couldn’t even concentrate on practice and now it was game day but instead of shitting yourself, you thought about the fact that gyuvin would be basking in the limelight whilst you had to deal with the weirdos who got excited over a little bit of skin. you stand by the mirror, attempting to hype yourself up but all you could think about was that stupid boy who toyed with your feelings.
“nervous?”
you look at the figure who was emerging and plaster a solemn smile across. “i wish i was nervous, instead i’m going crazy about my feelings.”
“could you sort out gyuvin for me?.” you snap around.
“heeseung i swear to god if you’re here to wind me-
he scofs and ruffles a hand through your hair. “relax, he’s just really off right now and i thought you might’ve had something to do with it.” you slap his arm away as you hear the announcement for the cheerleaders to make their way to the pitch and snatch your pom poms, walking towards the exit.
“well i don’t know what you want me to do about it.”
as soon as you exit onto the pitch, you flash your best smile and wave at the screaming crowd, slowly jogging to your position. your team huddles around and the coach starts rambling on about keeping safety but you couldn’t help but search for the brunette amongst the practice runs.
“stop thinking about him for these next 3 minutes or you’ll get hurt.” hanni says, looking at you cautiously. and for those 3 minutes you surprisingly did pretty well. maybe it was the crowd going crazy after each tumble or the few seconds where you felt like you could fly- but you delivered exactly what everyone wanted.
as you run off the pitch, you feel a sense of pure joy and accomplishment, knowing that you gave your all out there. instead of walking back out to watch the game, you decide to keep your little happy streak for a bit and walk to the food and drink stalls, getting a slushy to cool yourself down from the intense workout you just completed. “hey!” do people just love to randomly appear behind you?
“jay? aren’t you meant to be on the pitch? is everything okay?” the anxious look on his face made you feel nervous immediately. the boy hesitates before looking at you sincerely.
“it’s-.” he pauses and you squint at him, “it’s gyuvin. we don’t know what happened but he’s literally dragging us down! and we think you’re the only person who could get through to him!”
it was as if someone had pressed mute on the world. really? after the way he treated you, you’re the only person that could get through to him. maybe tell him to look at all his fangirls and he’ll get that energy boost.
“LETS GOO!”
you jump as the stadium erupts in cheers and jay’s face only drops. “you hear those cheers? those are not for us. come on, you can scream at me all you want-“ you cover your ears as the screams cut his words off.  he knew you were on the plan as the look in your eyes turned from confusion to anger.
you were extremely petty. yes, you were mad at gyuvin for treating you like shit. but you were more mad that he wanted to let the whole school down because of it. (you also didn’t want your brother to get mad at him, because he was terrifying)
for the second time, you enter the pitch again but this time you were filled with anger. “kim gyuvin!” you scream, piercing the boy with your eyes. “kim gyuvin! wake the fuck up!” the whole of the football squad immediately look at you but you didn’t care. “stop being selfish and play the fucking game. we both know- in fact everyone knows you’re a good player.”
the anger that was boiling in your head only worsened when that stupid smirk appeared on his face and you just knew that he was going to make one of his stupid remarks, but not this time. “no, keep your mouth shut just this once okay?”
gyuvin’s world stops as you utter those words. the same words the both of you would always make as an excuse to brush away the feelings which were most definitely there. his eyes soften and for the first time in what felt like forever, you see the gyuvin which your heart ached for.
“just this once, stop being a selfish prick and don't you dare look at me that way. not now, after every you’ve done!” you yell, tears daring to spill at any moment.
your words hit him like a knife. he looks around at his teammates who were also begging him to fix up. the whistle blows and you jog towards the bench where your teammates were sitting. you ignore their questions and plop down, deciding to completely focus on the game.
you're at the edge of your seat, watching intently as your team struggles to catch up. the score is tied at 3-3, and there's only a few minutes left in the game. the tension is palpable as the ball bounces back and forth between the two teams.
suddenly, your heart leaps as heeseung breaks away from the pack with the ball. you hold your breath as heeseung races towards the opposing team's goal, dribbling the ball with ease. you can hear the crowd shouting and cheering, and your heart races as heeseung approaches the goal. was this it?
in a flash, heeseung shoots the ball towards the goal, but you feel your heart drop as the goalkeeper manages to swat it away. just when it seems like all hope is lost, gyuvin jumps in and scores the winning goal with the rebound. the crowd erupts into cheers and the players swarm around gyuvin to celebrate.
you can hardly believe it- you scream with everyone as hanni snatches you and you start jumping aimlessly.
“go get your golden boy.” she giggles, grabbing your head and helping you fix your vision towards the pitch. you see gyuvin’s desperate looks for you and you take a few steps forward. as your eyes meet, you scan his for that same look which you saw before.
and that’s exactly what you were met with.
he sprints towards you with arms open wide, it’s all he’s been wanting to do. you meet him halfway and give him a huge hug, jumping up and down in excitement. he wraps his arms tightly around you and in that moment, everything else fades away and it's just the two of you. “i have a lot of explaining to do don’t i?”
you lean your head back to look into his eyes once more and feel that same feeling in your stomach that you felt at the river.
“yes. yes you do. but i think you deserve to celebrate. but just this once, okay?”
“i think that’s more than okay.”

More head cannons that I have but for non-love interests. mostly teachers and Bailey and Harper.
Bailey used to be a normal person who cared if the orphans got hurt but over time in order to keep the younger kids safe from the town he needed to start charging the older ones rent to keep this rinky-dink shack above water eventually it became too much for him to care about every victim he sent out onto the street to make rent so he stopped. Either by dissociation or worse. now he's just a heartless asshole who protects only the kids in the youth ward and even that is hard for him to do. The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all.
Harper is afraid of blood. Straight up. He’ll faint if he catches sight of it that's why he prefers needles and brainwashing no blood is involved if you do it right. He's giving some real “I never got my doctorate” energy and I don't think this town cares because he's the best they have. He's definitely jacked off over an unaware patient. Has a kink for making patients cum hands-free (it's a power thing). Almost agreed to work for Remmy for free because he got too excited about brainwashing people into mindless cow hybrids. moral compass? Whos she?
Leighton is such a fucking freak of nature. Would not be surprised if he went from teacher’s aid to head teacher solely through blackmail and other underhanded means this dud has always been a straight-up freak. Like Kylar but instead of being obsessed with one person, his passion is corrupting innocent people and once he's done and he's gotten off it's off to the next unsuspecting victim. This dude probably doesn’t know how to use a modern cellphone though so thank god for that.
Sirris. Mommy? sorry. Mommy? sorry. I mean Mommy? Sorry. For real though giving milf energy. Probably really loved her dead husband to the point where she's not getting married again. (which is the real crime) but deeply cares for her kid, and even though she has no idea the extent of  Leighton’s abuse she has threatened to kill him and go to church the next day if he even breathes near her kid. Owns a sex shop purely to exploit this town's obvious sex addiction issue and is probably saving for Sydney's future as well. The only good parent I’ve seen in this game.
River is a virgin for life. my man has never seen a pussy and is physically afraid of it. (same goes for cock but a little bit less so) has an avid believer of the church's teachings and he has a kind of friendship with Sydney but refuses to give them any special treatment because it wouldn't be fair (although Sydney is his favorite). Prob wear’s a chastity belt since he was 18 and has absolutely refused to take it off its like a security blanket now. No one is getting their filthy hands on this dick.
Doren is one of those freaks who has crushes on his students and sees nothing wrong with it, he cares about them and wants the best for his students but the power dynamic is hard to ignore for his students and even though he wants to be kind and a friend to all of them most students will avoid getting too friendly with him. He does his best to protect the students he likes best giving them snacks at lunch being extra patient with them during lessons helping them out or bumping up their grades just because they asked but if you’re a nuisance he lets you fall by the wayside because his love and care are conditional.
Winter is heavy into costumes and BDSM but that's not a surprise super into weird sexual history and also has a huge denial/edging kink. Surprisingly the teacher she gets along best with is River. They hang out in the teacher's lounge and bitch about students. Leighton has absolutely harassed her for information on her students like which ones squirm during her unorthodox lessons but she refuses to play into his antics. When she's working at the museum she is the most content. It's her real passion but it doesn't pay the bills. Probably got hired because Leighton thought she would be an easy mark but it turns out she's a total dom and now he's afraid to fire her.
Mason is the guy Dorent wishes he was. Students are always trying to feel him up during lesions and asking if he's single. But he really just wants to be left alone. At one point he was good enough to be on a national swim team but for one reason or another, his life fell apart and now he's burnt out and living in the worst town in Britain at the ripe age of 25. The dude probably wouldn't hurt a fly unless he had to and even then he would be crying for a week afterward. Bottom energy.

Chapter 8. Symphony No. 5 in C-Sharp Minor: IV. Adagietto. Sehr langsam
______________________________________________________________
Startled from a dream in which my body seemed to be falling, I opened my eyes, trying to breathe normally as my heart was beating faster.
The TV in the hotel room was turned on: I didn’t realize that I fell asleep after that conversation with Vincent when he tried to reach me, making pathetic try to explain the relationship between him and Sandra. I didn’t even change into pajamas.
Crimson Rivers was on air. I liked that film but wasn’t ready to rewatch it especially when it was 3 o’clock in the morning and busy day for both Renzi and me was waiting for us: the last hearing was scheduled in a few days and we needed to be ready for it. I turned the TV off, put pajamas on, but couldn’t go to sleep again without the help of my sleeping medication and putting socks on: my feet were too cold.
Of course, I knew that there needed to be a serious talk with Vincent, because I couldn’t take it, that uncertainty between us: either we could stay friends or colleagues, if it could be possible at all, I wasn’t sure about it, or we were about to break all the strings which were connecting us. Our common romantic past needed to be in the past. It was clear for me that he found someone else.
______________________________________________________________
We were in a team, so, of course, we needed to spend the days which were left before the final hearing together: looking through documents, writing speeches and checking the evidence. He invited me to his hotel room and from early in the morning until late evening we were working, even forgetting to have lunch.
Somehow both of us began to believe that we would win the case: I always had that particular feeling which I couldn’t explain but when I knew that the case was going to be successful – I always felt it. And that particular feeling started to appear in my head.
“Well, I think we’re done for tonight. And for this case. We can finally relax before the hearing, and we have time until the day after tomorrow to make sure that everything is ready”, Vincent closed his folder with documents and notebook and looked at me, “I think we deserve a bottle of nice wine and good dinner, don’t you think?”, he looked at his watches, checking the time, “And we definitely need the fresh air”
“There is a good place near my hotel”, I said, “We can sit there”
I put my documents inside my bag and looked at watches as well. It felt so strange to talk to him after that evening, the pressure was floating in the air, and it felt like if we didn’t go outside – the eruption was about to begin.
______________________________________________________________
Of course, one bottle of wine at the restaurant wasn’t enough for us, and since both of us knew that we needed to talk, no matter how drunk we could be, we decided to spend the rest of the evening at my hotel room, talking and drinking wine.
“What are you planning to do after this work?”, the conversation at my hotel room started with a very ordinary, when Vincent asked me this question.
Finishing twirling the lighter on the table and putting the leftovers of my cigarette in the ashtray, I replied, without looking at him:
“I’d love to have some days off – it was one of the most dreadful cases that I’ve ever had before.”
“Honestly, mine as well”, Renzi replied, and poured more wine in our glasses, “But on the other hand, it was very nice experience to work with you, Camille, I’ve heard about your work and I can see why you’ve been recommended as one of the best”
I just smirked, but he caught it
“Why are you smirking? It’s the truth”
“Oh, please, Renzi, just stop sugar coating yourself.”, I finally looked at him, trying to find the courage to tell him everything that I was keeping inside me. Vincent looked at me with frown, “I will never forget how did you trample on our relationships, and now you’re trying to shove it off with pleasing me, it’s so pathetic”
“Camille”, Vincent moved closer to me, trying to take my hand, but I shoved it off and stood up, moving back, and stood near the sofa. The rage was growing inside of me. I was angry at him and his attempts to keep me calm.
“Why the fuck are you acting like you are an innocent person?”, my voice started to break into a scream, “I can’t believe that you forgot that it was you who decided to break up with me saying that it was a mistake to begin relationship with me because I’m a lot younger than you and you didn’t know that it would go that far?”, I paused, catching my breath, when Vincent raised from his seat and moved closer to me, placing his hand on a sofa which was separating us:
“Because I had no idea that it would be so hard not to think about you and not to care about you. It was I who was afraid scared of the responsibility, of other people’s opinion about us.”
“Now you sound ridiculous.”, I smirked crookedly, I couldn’t believe that he was talking like that and was taken aback, “You’re acting like a young adult and now you’re playing with my feelings. You could at least tell me that you and Sandra are a thing and I would understand it”, my voice broke down, when Vincent made the last attempt to catch my hand when I moved back again, and this time he was successful, when I tried to pull it out, he squeezed it harder, talking loudly:
“Sandra and I are NOT a thing, Camille!”, it felt like the walls shook after his words and I finally gave up trying to pull out my hand, “We were never a thing”, Vincent finally released my hand and stood behind the window, looking outside, and I accurately sat on the sofa.
“I know that I was a child. I understood it long time ago, how wrong I was, but was trying to defend myself. Funny how I couldn’t do it, because, believe it or not, I was looking for our meeting but was avoiding it at the same time. I was thinking about you. Sometimes too much”, he looked at me with certainty, “When the case came around, I thought that maybe it would be a good time to finally meet you and talk about us. I was trying to deny it, but when I saw you, Camille, when we began to work together…”
Vincent’s voice broke a little when he started to move closer to me, and I stood up, but keeping the distance, “…what we had years ago, of course, was lost, but I understood that I wanted to come back to what we had together”, he finally finished, but I couldn’t move.
My mind was telling me that it was all lies, but my heart, no matter how hard I tried not to hear its voice, was saying that it was true. Tears came from my eyes, when I asked Vincent with my hoarse voice, as if it had disappeared:
“How can I believe you, Vincent? You hurt me, my feelings, how can I possibly believe you?”
He moved closer to me, couple of centimeters were separating us. Suddenly, everything seemed so quiet, even clocks couldn’t be heard.
“What about trust?”, Vincent whispered, looking in my eyes,
“It’s hard to find”, I whispered, but I moved closer to him, I think I heard not only the beat of my heart, but Renzi’s as well
“But can it be gained back again?”
“Can it?”, without realizing it at first, I put my hand in his hand, when my mind was circling.
“We can try... I don’t want to lose you, mademoiselle Cadieux”,
“Neither do I, monsieur Renzi”, I finally breathed out these words and our lips merged into deep kiss, which I didn’t want to break, but dived deeply into it. How long I’ve been waiting for it, how long my mind and my heart were fighting between each other, but finally my heart won the battle.
We fell on the bed, kissing each other madly, Vincent kissed my neck, when I put my hands in his soft hair, trying to catch my breath. The kisses were deeper and deeper when finally, Vincent took off his sweater and I took off mine, unbuttoning my bra. Renzi took off his jeans and layed down on me, when I closed my eyes, diving into the passionate night which was ahead of us.

Rewind, Remix, & Replay Jay & Kim 5x22
Read the rest of the series here
This one was hard for me to write. Al’s death was so sad to me and they expressed the emotions so well in the show. This came out a little awkward to me but I rewrote it from scratch at least four times so I’m just going with what I got so I can move on to the next chapter.
FYI the gathering scene happened in a deleted scene and I suggest if you haven’t seen it, check it out. Sometimes I think I’m making up the Burgstead chemistry and then I see things like that and I’m like there was something there they just needed to change away from the obvious direction.
Kim couldn’t stop staring at Al’s desk. She still couldn’t believe her partner was gone. It may have had a rough start but Alvin Olinsky had been a great partner. He was loyal to a fault and had taught her so much in the short time they had been paired together. In the job, but also in life. Now all that was left of him was his desk full of things.
A desk Voight had told her to pack up.
Kim had tried she had taken the box over to his desk and wrote his name on it with a black Sharpie, but she couldn’t touch his stuff. She had been making up excuses to herself all day about why she couldn’t. Now she had none left.
Kim felt a strong familiar hand squeeze her shoulder. She tucked and rolled into the muscled chest of her best friend wrapping her arms around him, clinging to his support. Kevin held her tightly like he had when she had folded over in grief when Voight had walked into the waiting room a small shake of his head changing their lives forever. She had sobbed into his chest until the numbness took over then centered herself to help the team find who had been behind Al’s murder.
Her and Kevin’s friendship had always been solid. They had made fast friends when they were paired for patrol and somewhere along the line, they had become family. An older brother that she had never thought to ask for but desperately needed in her life. He didn’t ask her if she was okay. None of them were and wouldn’t be for the foreseeable future. But they had each other to lean on. That support is what would keep them all from falling apart.
The unit was gathering tonight to honor Al that night and Kevin offered to drive her. It was cold and dark all of them parking in a deserted lot near the river. Kim was shaky and wrung out and didn’t complain when Kevin lifted her to sit on the hood of his car while the rest of them stood. She just crosses her legs and takes a generous pull of the beer she is offered. Her head is still aching from the wine she drank before they got the call but she feels too raw to cope with her grief sober.
Jay snags another beer and tries to make his choice to lean on the car Kim is sitting on look natural, not worried. The whole team had been lingering around each other but Kim especially. She had lost her partner. Jay watched her throughout the night as everyone talked, telling stories about Al and drinking. Pouring some on the ground for their fallen friend.
Jay had slowly slid close to her. One of her thighs was now pressed against his hip and he had a hand resting in front of her crossed legs. Kim had been swaying on her perch and he wanted to make sure he could grab her if she started to slide. Between the lack of sleep and Kim only taking a bite of the sub he had bought her for lunch, the alcohol was hitting her harder than usual. She was also unusually quiet.
Trudy tells a final story of Al recommending her a Marconian restaurant after he had been shot in the leg. “His pant leg was soaked in blood, and I go Al what the hell happened? And he looks at me with that calm expression and goes yeah, I got shot. And I go you got shot why didn’t you say anything? And he’s just standing there with that Al face of his and say I just didn’t want to bother anybody. And that was Alvin Olinsky the most loyal, toughest, best cop and friend there ever was.” Everyone calls his name and dumps more beer onto the ground.
Everyone lingers for a few more minutes before starting to pack everything up. Kevin turns to head back to his car to get Kim down and drop her back off at her apartment since he had been her ride here. His eyes catch Jay helping her slide down off the hood, his hand catching around her waist as stumbles when her shoes hit the ground. Kevin notices how Jay’s hands linger just a little too long. Kim doesn’t seem to mind. She is still standing in his space, her arms sliding around his shoulders for a hug. Her face pressed into his neck as she sinks into him. It’s too intimate to be friendly.
Kevin looked around to see if anyone else had noticed the exchange but everyone seemed to still be busy with packing everything up. When he turns back, they have separated. He moves towards them. “You ready to go?” He asks Kim. Her tired red-rimmed eyes find his. Then she briefly glances up at Jay before going back to his.
“I got her man, I’ll take her home. I know it’s out of the way for you.” Kevin raised an eyebrow at him.
“Isn’t your house on the other side of town too?”
“Yeah, but I need to stop by Will’s anyways.” There are so many things off about the situation. Jay going to his brothers at almost three in the morning? The fact he is pretty sure that even if he was going to see him, Will lived near Jay, not Kim. Kevin thinks about pushing. He looks down at Kim who is bundled up and staying close to Jay’s side to try to keep out of the chill of the wind. This wasn’t the time or place to figure out where or who his best friend had been spending her nights with.
“Alright, thanks, man.” He gave Kim a pointed look, “You call me if you need anything okay?” Kim nodded, stepping forward to hug him. Kevin watched Jay open his truck door for her and make sure she got in safely before closing the door. The scene caused his mind to start thinking about the pair's exchanges over the last few months. He knew he had seen a change in Jay and Kim’s friendship, they were a lot closer. Kevin hadn’t found it too strange. The two had spent a lot of time paired up when Haliey had been UC. They had made a good team, and Voight had been pairing them up more. Of course, they would have gotten closer. But Kevin wondered if with the craziness of the last few months he had missed something big and glaring- a budding relationship. Kevin had always been supportive of her relationship even when they did blur personal and work lines.
So why hadn’t Kim told him?
The last forty-eight hours had been draining and the two drove home in silence. Jay kept glancing over to see if the brunette had finally succumbed to her exhaustion. Her brown eyes were heavy-lidded and unfocused but she was still stubbornly awake. When they got to his apartment Kim took off her coat and beelined for the couch. He watched her lift the blanket and search around the living room.
He knew what she was looking for. When he walks back to the living room, she is curled up on the couch leaning against the arm hugging a pillow to her chest. Her gaze sluggishly finds his and a smile finds her lips when he holds out his navy sweatshirt. She discards the pillow to reach for it. It barely touches her fingertips and she is pulling it on. Kim inhaled but was disappointed to find it only smelt like the detergent and not Jay. He must have just washed it.
Jay sat with her offering her the glass in his hand. The water was cold and when it hit the back of her throat, she realized how thirsty she was. She made quick work of it until there were just ice cubes clanging in the bottom of the glass. “Come on, let’s go lay down.”
“I just want to sit here for a while.”
So, they did. The two curled up together, turning on a random channel they didn’t watch. Jay's mind kept going back to Al. How was Intelligence going to run without him? How was Jay going to go on without him? Al was always watching out for him. He had his back when it came to guns and bullets or cases that got too close or PTSD flare-ups. He cared about Jay, not just as a follow detective, but as a person. Al made sure Jay was okay and centered when bad cases took over his life and reminded him that he was more important to him than the work he did. He was a straight talker, known to call everyone out on their bullshit. Now he was gone. All Jay had were memories and what Al had taught him. And damn was life too short to let fear get in the way or to lie to yourself.
Jay scrubbed his hand down his face catching a few of the silent tears he couldn’t stop. His gaze went down to the brunette in his arms. He had been deliberating and thinking things through for months now. And for what? He already knew what he wanted.
He pressed a kiss to Kim's forehead, “I want this.” Kim tilted back to look at him. His blue eyes were red-rimmed but intense. Kim searched them feeling her heart expand in her chest, the coldness broken by waves of warm emotions. “I want you. I don’t want to hide what we are doing anymore. I want an official relationship- Sign the disclosure papers at work, kiss you in public, and tell our friends and family- official. Life is too short and I’m sorry it took me so long but baby I’m all in.”
Kim is silent, her face is unreadable and for a second dread fills Jay’s chest. It didn’t last as her lips found his. It was tender and soft. Her smile was tired as she ran her hand along his jaw. “You know life is a complete mess right now, right? My sister spiraling and Zoey. And Al- work is going to be-” Her breath catches painfully in her chest. The thought of going back to the Intelligence bullpen to sit across from an empty desk was heartwrenching. Her partner was gone. He cupped her cheek palm resting against her neck, thumb stroking her jaw.
“I know, but we have each other.” Kim leans forward to kiss him again a gentle peck. She pulls back to burrow into the space between his neck and shoulder. He drops a lingering kiss on her forehead adjusting so she can sink farther into him. Jay runs his fingers through her hair. It doesn’t take much longer for her to fall asleep. He flips the TV off preparing himself for a night on the couch, not willing to risk waking her. He rests further back on the couch and lets himself feel everything he'd been suppressing all day roll over him.

Why "Ladybug"
I ask myself "why Ladybug?" far too often. But why the name? Because it's what my father called me. The story is pretty simple.
Back home, in a far away place where I no longer am and at a house which I will probably never return, there was a backyard. This backyard was not just a backyard, it was a sanctuary, a play ground, the home of my imagination. That backyard was bigger than the entire world, it was the entire world, at least it sure felt like it to a tiny little Ladybug.
The backyard had three main realms: The Deck, the Field, and the Left Side.
From the sliding glass door that brought you from the dining room to the backyard, the deck was straight in front. It was probably the biggest part of the backyard, mainly because it was also part of the patio. My parents built the deck that stayed up for over twenty years. There was a secret trapped door in the deck, certain boards squeaked and bounced, and the grey wood they built it with was a perfect canvas for my chalk. I spent many summers camped out on that deck, building a tent made of blankets with the railings and heavy mental patio furniture. I had lunch out there with the neighbor kids, slept under the stars with my best friend (who was possibly one of the first people I ever loved but also one of the first boys to break my heart), and sat out there when my parents locked me out of the house (on accident... probably).
The deck was always special. It looked like a stage (and I made it my stage often). I could see it from my bedroom window and could hear the conversations happening out there when I was hiding away. Parties were spent out on that deck. Pictures taken, games played, memories made. It was a good deck.
To the left of the deck, a realm deemed "The Left Side" was a flat terrain were the gravel and grass were separated by the River of Stones. It was home to my Blue Sky Castle (a treehouse/swing set my parents built for me), and was were the River of Stones (a lava rock path where my mother kept her painted stepping stones) was the barrier between the "backyard" and the side of the house where the shed and side entrance to the garage was. I never spent much time on the gravel, mainly because that's where my father kept his tools and there were usually a bunch of spiderwebs there. Plus, it's where my childhood family dog used to shit and I didn't want to step in it.
Just past my Castle, and beyond the tiny trees my mother planted, was the entrance to the "Underworld" a secret 4th realm that was a trench that spread along the back fence from one end of the yard to the other, and the underside of the deck. Under the deck wasn't very full, there was a broken hammock, random popped pool floaties that got stuck under there, a forgotten ball or two, and some plumbing or electrical accesses that my father sometimes had to get to (hence the trap door in the deck). It was scary under there for a tiny ladybug who's nightmares felt far more real than her dreams. It's where the monsters lived, where the bodies were buried, and where I wasn't allowed to go (I went anyway, obviously).
To the right of the deck was the field. It wasn't actually a field, just a larger section of grass that led off to the swamp behind our house. A broken fence came to an acute triangle separating us from the marsh where the toads lived and the trees grew high, swaying in storms and threatening to fall on our house (hence the broken fence). The field ran from the gate on the side of the house, past the broken and rotting gazebo, past the newly built but sinking pool deck, past the garden and down to the triangle.
The field was important because of a small path of wood that wound from the side of the house all the way to the bushes that separated the yard from the drop off. That little path of wood was where the ladybugs were march.
Looking back, we may have had a nest or something near by, maybe an infestation that had to be taken care of, but for a little ladybug like myself, it wasn't for me to worry about. All I had to worry about was watching them march. It seemed, at the time, like there were hundreds of these ladybugs marching one by one on this little wooden path. I was mesmerized by millions of black dots on red bodies, tiny legs making the long hall from somewhere near the gate all the way to the bushes. Families of ladybugs marched, dutifully back to their home under my supervision.
I used to watch them for what felt like hours, but really, could have hours or minutes (I didn't have a good concept of time at that age). My father would watch me, sometimes my grandmother, sometimes no one, while I watched the ladybug march.
After this became a habit, my father, who like my mother, has never actually called me by my given name always preferring to call me by one of the many, many, nicknames they came up for me, deemed me his little ladybug. It was fitting because I too was small and red (I'm a ginger) and had little dots (I have freckles).
It's the nickname I most identify with, it's the nickname that means the most to me, and it's the nickname that I'm most referred to as.
So long story short, that's why "Ladybug".

Day 11 - Rocky Mountaineer part 1
I'm behind again! Mostly because I've been busy experiencing stuff, and not connected to tech!!
Anyway, Day 10 started pretty early - coach pick up at the hotel was 7:50am, but our luggage had to be outside our rooms for collection an hour before that.
Our coach was the first to arrive at the station, so we had about half an hour to hang around before the welcome (which involved bagpipes), and then boarding.
Tumblr media
(This is a Gold Leaf carriage - I was travelling on Silver Leaf)
We set off at 8am, and while we were still slowly trundling out of Vancouver the first refreshments were served - coffee and tea, then a 2 course breakfast!
We had an unexpected and sudden stop when the emergency brake was pulled due to "an issue with the crossing ahead." Not sure what the issue was, but when the emergency brake is pulled the whole length of train has to be walked to check the brake has been released. I think we were stopped for about 10 minutes.
(The stop also caused a service cart at the back of our carriage to topple. These carts basically never to that, so this was definitely unusual according to our 3 cabin hosts!)
Not long after that we had a glimpse of Mt Barker (which is over the border in the US - Washington).
Tumblr media
At this point I feel the need to point out 2 important things: 1. I took over 200 photos today 2. All photos were taken through the windows of the train, and are therefore subject to reflections off the glass - watch out for the little UFOs, they are reflections of the lights in the carriage ceiling!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also should point out seeing mountains like these is kinda exciting for me - Australia's mountains aren't like this! And the train follows the Fraser River pretty closely. The grey-green colour of the water is apparently due to the sediments it carries - they never get a chance to settle.
Tumblr media
Speaking of colours . . . this mixture of blues and greens is because it's part of where the Fraser meets the Thomson River, which the train then follows to our eventual overnight stop in Kamloops.
This train trip is like being in a moving restaurant - we were supplied with drinks and a snack, then a 3 course lunch by the time we hit this point!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rainbow Canyon - the colours of the rocks caused by oxidation of iron, copper and sulfur (I think that's what they said!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was really on the wrong side of the train to get shots of the rapids on the Thompson, where some of the rocks have names! Can you spot the rock called the frog? (right pic above)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Murray Creek Falls . . .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On one of our many stops while waiting on a siding for a freight train to pass in the opposite direction, we had a Bald Eagle circling beside us. Not easy to snap pics!
Tumblr media
Somewhere near Black Canyon we had one of the best chances to shoot pics of the front of the train - my carriage was the second last of 22 "pieces of equipment" (engine, carriages inc non-passenger cars), and the last passenger car. (I still had trouble getting a decent shot without reflections or telephone wires in the way!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We spent much of the day spotting Osprey nests! (And one or two eagle nests)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does anyone recognise Rainbow Bluffs? Apparently they appeared in the X-Files. (right pic above)
After many, many delays pulling into sidings for freight trains (the two I counted cars for were 150 and 194 cars long - so not short trains!), and our afternoon snack and drink, we finally came up along Kamloops Lake. Lots of winding track as the train closely follows the shoreline.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's my 30 image limit!
We were late getting into Kamloops - so many stops along the way we even got a second afternoon snack!! So, when we finally reached our hotels it was around 9pm. That's basically a 13hr train trip! Certainly not boring though.

After some time off for Thanksgiving and myself, going back on the water was like riding a bike, once you learn how it's instinct. Saying that, it's hard to believe in yourself but after thinking of past early winter days, the spots over the years all fall into place. Our Big Bend Rivers are always the producers if you have patience and can change your angling habits. Picking days ahead of cold fronts is always the best fishing but sometimes the day you have to fish is the day you go. My suggestion is to slow down and work an area more thoroughly than last month. River fishing is as simple as looking for rocky banks that drop off into deeper waters. Most of the time it's near a marked channel or near the mouth of the river that during the outgoing tide will have a flow of warmer water flowing toward the Gulf. The best bait is a live shrimp with the tail pinched off and a 1/8 oz. jig head threaded through it with the hook coming out the leg side of the shrimp. The presentation is simple, cast it out and let it set. You will feel the bite, but if you decide to drag it or slowly reel it across the bottom be prepared to get hung up and lose your tackle. On the north and south sides of the rivers I've done well with trout on D.O.A. glow jerk baits working water that is 3 to 5 feet deep and has a shallow flat near it. The trout will be warming up on the lip of the hole during the warmest part of the day. Sleep in, eat breakfast on the way to the ramp, and fish the mid part of the day. This weekend there will be a low tide all day, and if it comes in it will be the first light or sun down.
