Dear August; chapter five
Summary: You and Bradley have been best friends since college and when he was stationed in North Island, you were thrilled that he would be back in your life. When things start to sour with Bradley’s girlfriend and she breaks things off, Bradley comes to you for drunken comfort. What happens when an accidental hookup brings along an unexpected positive pregnancy test threatens the state of your friendship? What happens when your best friend Jake steps in to help you?
part one / part two / part three / part four / part five
Pairing: Jake Seresin x female!reader, Bradley x female!reader
Tropes: friends to lovers, unexpected pregnancy, unrequited feelings, love triangle
Word Count: 1600+
Jake’s vibrant green eyes light up in surprise, the silicone spatula and sponge in hand slapping into the sink with a heavy sloshing sound as he takes in your words. The look on his face, flashes of worry and confusion wash through him and it makes you anxious, so so anxious as you take deep breaths and try to collect your hands to stop the trembling from vibrating its way into your forearms.
Electricity passes through you as silence fills the sunny floors of your kitchen. But Jake’s concern melts from his face, dissolving into his cool, lackadaisical vibration that you’ve come to rely so heavily on. “I’m worried.”
“Haven’t you been,” Jake winces, feeling strange asking about your cycle in the middle of your kitchen in the middle of a peaceful Sunday morning. He scratches the sharp scruff of his jaw and adjusts the backwards baseball cap on his head. “Don’t you track…”
“Yes,” you nod, swaying from heel to heel during the conversation. Your cheeks heat up. The thought of being pregnant makes your heart race. You couldn’t have a child, you took care of 20 children for months on end at school, 21 was not your goal currently. And oh god, after the conversation before he left for his tour…you’d have to tell Bradley. “Bradley is going to kill me.”
“He’s not going to kill you, we don’t even know what we’re dealing with.” He straightens slightly, relaxing into his hip and leaning into the countertop to wipe down the mess from making breakfast.
“Jake.” Your hands are on your hips, dauntingly so in a way that has him feeling like he’s back at Basic, ready to do some punishment push ups.
“If you feel like it’s a concern, we should just go to the clinic down in town,” he shares, wiping his hands dry and putting away the dishes that have dried on the rack with a quick precision that reminds you of his aerial piloting skills. It makes you wish that you could see him glide through the air from thousands of feet off the ground.
“That sounds terrifying,” your voice is airy as you fiddle with the strings of your hoodie, “Sounds too real.”
“Better to get told once that,” Jake clears his throat and walks around the island toward you, gently grazing your covered shoulder and rubbing with a soothing touch. “That there’s a situation as opposed to having to see it on a test then having to go to a doctor. I’ll drive.”
“You knock someone up before Seresin?” you ask as he leads you over to the door. It’s meant to sound like a joke but your tone is high pitched, strained. Your hand instinctively comes up to your stomach as you bend down to grab your sandals from the rack by the front door. It alarms you. Jake must not notice as he slips on his loafers, a delicate chuckle rolling off his chest and dancing into your ears. It’s pleasant.
“Sisters, Dukes,” his Texan accent rings through and suddenly Jake is back to that man who was there when you needed someone. Picking up the pieces Bradley had dropped again. “I’ve got three sisters who all have popped out a few of their own. You and I both know that if I had knocked someone up, you’d have found out about it during our wine nights.” He’s staring at you intensely now, a light hugged by his long lashes and scruff peppered cheeks. The comment relaxes your shoulders, bringing out a smile on your glossy lips.
“I love our wine nights,” you hum, tugging the front door open and letting him lead you over to the passenger side of his large truck that he’d bought after him and the rest of the team were permanently ordered to stay as the lead squad at Miramar.
While Bradley had taken Jenny out to dinner that night to celebrate his new found position, Jake had driven over to your place to show off his new ride and ask you to join him on the inaugural scenic drive down the coast. You had laughed, cranked up the music on the new surround sound and rolled the windows down to let the salty ocean breeze roll through the cabin. Looking at him now, strapping in as he slides easily into the driver’s seat with one hand lazily on the wheel as he backs out of your driveway - you wonder how you hadn’t looked at him this way before.
Jake was beautiful. Well, obvious. The man was a specimen unlike any other you’d seen before. Like a Ken doll with a brighter smile and a southern charm to match. But Jake was raised right, raised by two loving parents who were dedicated and surrounded by a large family of women. He was intelligent, more than he ever wanted to let on. He loved space, asking sheepishly to watch documentaries about Astronauts and Space Stations on a lazy Thursday night when the rest of the crew were down at the Hard Deck.
And yet, here you’d been pinning over Bradley who had never given you the time of day unless it was convenient for him. Please don’t let me be pregnant, you think to yourself as you take off down the main road. It’s quiet in town on the sunny Sunday morning in California and with the heat wave breaking, it was a cool enough day that everyone was out and about at the beaches on the outskirts of the town. Jake pulls easily into a parking space and pushes into park, taking a moment to turn off the radio before he turned to give you a hard look.
“What?”
“Are you okay?”
“If I’m being honest, I’m not sure,” your words are a mere whisper and he reaches across the middle console to clutch your hand, interlacing your fingertips.
“It’s okay,” he nods, like he’s trying to convince himself before clearing his throat. “We’ll get this figured out.”
“Please for the love of God,” you turn to the roof of the truck, slamming your palms together and squeezing your eyes shut. “Please God, I know I stopped going to church when I was 15 but I beg of you…” Jake collects your hands again, shaking them slightly.
“Cut that out,” he nods to the door. “I’ve got you Dukes.” You both slide from the truck, stepping in line with each other as you head to the front door of the medical clinic. As you enter the building, you’re immediately met with images of mothers and their children, pregnant women and smiling families along the walls of the clinic. It makes you want to throw up again. In fact, you do throw up again and Jake rushes to find the nearest trash can.
He reaches you just in time, cupping the back of your head as you drive heave into the silky black bag. A nurse rushes over, soothing and cooing as you wipe your mouth. “You alright honey?” she asks with a kind tone, smiling apologetically. She’s a bit older than you, curly chocolate locks twisted up into a fluffy bun and gentle eyes.
“I don’t know how to answer that,” you murmur, turning to Jake who discards the trash can into the nurse’s hands and rubs your back in large circles.
“Pretty common answer here,” she says lightly, turning to look at Jake with a raised brow. “Seems like we need to get you guys all checked in for a check up to see what’s going on, huh?” You nod, staring up at Jake as he pulls you close to his side while following the nurse the rest of the way to the front desk. You do your best to avoid the many women, both pregnant and alone, who are sitting in the waiting room.
You give the woman your name, hand her your insurance card and then take the clipboard to fill out a self identifying medical sheet. You and Jake don’t wait long before the same nurse, Ellie you’d learned, came back out to get you. Jake stood to your right, holding his hand out to help you up in fear that you would get lightheaded. “You two seem very sweet,” she comments while taking your weight and height, ushering you into the exam room.
“Oh we’re not,” “Thank you,” you both say at the same time, turning to look at each other. Ellie watches with amusement at your stares while typing in your symptoms of the computer. She runs a few exams, checking your blood pressure and doing some blood work.
“So, I definitely think that we need to do a pregnancy test,” she places her hands on the tops of her thighs as she speaks, gliding closer from the rolling chair to look up at you. “You are showing some clear symptoms and I definitely think we need to rule out an initial positive before we move forward with any other possibilities. Have you two been trying?”
“Excuse me?” you quip, eyes widening as Jake lets out a loud chuckle. His pearly whites are on display as he crosses one leg over the other with his hands twisted.
“Many couples come straight here because they’ve been trying for a child,” Ellie shares as she turns to Jake.
“We’ve,” you pause, staring at Jake for a moment and biting your lip. The look in his eye doesn’t seem like he’s bothered by the assumption and the fear of Bradley’s reaction causes tension in your belly. “We weren’t trying, things are still relatively new.” At your words, Jake’s perfectly plucked brows raise though he still has a grin on his lips.
“Can’t help myself Ellie,” he responds, leaning confidently back into his plastic chair with an arm draped along the back of the other. “You’ve seen the beautiful woman.”

We have reached the end of these cakegate bodyswap shenanigans. I hope you enjoy this final part! The whole thing will be up on my AO3 page... eventually.
Thank you kindly for reading and liking and reblogging and making me smile in the tags!

SHARING A SLICE... part 6
RWRB, rated T, 1000 words (this part).
(click here for part 1) (part 2) (part 3) (part 4) (part 5)
...
After brunch, they visit Tower Bridge.
“Over there is the Tower of London.”
“That’s where they locked women up when they didn't pop out babies fast enough for the king, right?”
“Exactly right. Did you know they kept an elephant there, too?”
“What?”
“They fed it bread and wine. I'm sure you’ll be shocked to learn that it died.”
“Y’know, I almost feel like I should cut you some slack. All that inbreeding obviously messed up your brains.”
Henry smiles. It probably looks great to the paparazzi.
After Tower Bridge, it's the Tate Modern, followed by St Paul's Cathedral, Hyde Park, dinner, and then Kensington Palace again for the night.
Yeah, it's a stunt, and yeah, Alex doesn't really get to look at the art or visit the sites, and yeah, he has zero say about the itinerary, but it's not terrible. Henry's not awful company.
By the end of the day, Alex is exhausted. Henry seems just as tired. On the one hand, they’ve convinced the public they're best friends and maybe reached a personal truce. On the other hand, it's twenty-four hours post-caketastrophe and they're still in the wrong fucking bodies.
“We can't stall any longer.” He's watching Henry pace back and forth in front of the windows with the ugly-ass curtains. “I have to go back tomorrow. Well, I mean, you do. You as me.”
Henry doesn't respond.
“How long do you think it’ll take one of us to get arrested for spying? My money's on less than forty-eight hours.”
“I need ice cream,” Henry announces.
“Music to my ears. Lead the way.”
They settle on opposite sides of the kitchen island and eat their ice cream in a half-peaceful, half-melancholic silence.
“Despite the uncanny aspect of it all, I have to admit this hasn't been horrible,” Henry says eventually. “They don't often let me play tourist... and I never get to fabricate pseudo-historical nonsense for a mouthy American.”
Alex nearly fumbles his cone. “Wait, you made stuff up? When?”
Henry shrugs.
“Come on. It was the elephant, wasn't it? I knew there was no way–”
“I assure you, the elephant was real.” Henry taps on his phone and spins it so Alex can see. “He even has his own Wikipedia entry.”
“Elephant of Henry III,” Alex reads, bending closer. “What the fuck.”
The smug expression on Henry's face – Alex's face – and the way he licks his ice cream makes Alex's stomach flip over strangely. His neck feels hot. There's melted ice cream dripping onto his hand.
Without breaking eye contact, Alex slides his free hand over the countertop and rests it on top of Henry's.
“Hey, don't spook, okay?”
His words have the opposite effect. Henry's eyes widen and his shoulders tense like he's getting ready to bolt, but Alex just tightens his grip.
“Maybe... close your eyes?”
“Alex–”
“Suit yourself,” Alex murmurs. As he leans in, Henry takes a deep breath, then closes his eyes. There's a nervous crease between his brows. "Okay. Here goes nothing.”
He mashes what's left of his ice cream against Henry’s face.
“What the hell, Alex?”
So much for that idea.
“Shit. I was thinking maybe the ice cream... after the cake... and I was touching your skin, so...” It doesn't make as much sense out loud as it did in Alex's head.
“You don't–” Henry sputters.
“Listen, I honestly wasn't trying to get back at you for the tour guide shit, I hoped it would fix–”
“No, no, I was wrong, I thought you–”
“What?”
“Alex, don't...” Henry laughs under his breath and reaches out to flatten a sticky palm against Alex's cheek. “Don't spook, alright?”
Before Alex can complain about the mess, Henry brings their lips together in a soft, vanilla-flavored kiss. Alex's stomach flips over again. He closes his eyes. Like this, it's easy to forget he’s kissing himself – and it’s still Henry, isn’t it? It's Henry, kissing him. Henry, kissing Alex.
The kiss is cautious, like Henry's expecting rejection; Alex leans into it anyway. Henry's hand smears ice cream onto his face and the edge of the counter presses into his ribcage, painful, but he wants it. It's shocking how powerful the want is when he hadn't even noticed it before.
Alex slides one hand up Henry's cheek, into his soft hair, and feels – he opens his eyes.
“Well, fuck.” Have Henry's eyes always been so blue? They hadn't seemed that blue in the mirror. They're kind of beautiful.
“Hello,” Henry says. “I'm back? You're back. Are you?”
“I guess. When did you come up with that plan?”
“I – plan?”
“You figured it out? Curse-breaking kisses or something? Wasn't that–” Alex stops. Henry hasn't pulled back from his awkward lean across the counter. From bizarre-but-true personal experience of less than sixty seconds ago, Alex knows for a fact that it's an uncomfortable position.
“If you'd like, I could pretend that it was part of a plan,” Henry offers quietly. “I've got plenty of experience pretending.”
If it's not the truth, though, Alex doesn’t want it. “Nah, no need. Don't get me wrong, it's weird if you don't want any credit for getting us back to normal again, but whatever.”
Henry's incredulous laugh makes Alex feel like kissing him again. “Covered in ice cream is normal for you?”
“Hey, chill. We're having a fucking moment.”
“A fucking moment, truly,” Henry echoes, mocking, but his smile is wide and happy.
“I'm not used to being covered in cake, trading bodies, being covered in ice cream, or kissing princes.”
“No?”
“But I've been branching out lately. Expanding my horizons, y’know.”
“I see. And now you know what to do if any one of those things happens again, I suppose?” Henry squeezes Alex's hand where they're still twined together.
“Yeah,” Alex agrees, squeezing back and leaning in. They've got more to figure out here, but right now it's his turn. Henry kissed him, so now he needs to try it for himself. Simple. “Let me show you. It's a piece of cake.”

i desire a masterlist of rick wright lore. i absolutely love that man but i don't know half the silly, goofy things he got up to and i need a long-ass post explaining all you know about that little weirdo.
HI HELLO okay so as much as i see and understand a desire for a "rick wright lore masterlist", i don't think i would be able to do proper service by just listing all of the stuff i know off my head, plus i don't want people to see it and just take everything i say at face value and not look into things further if that makes any sense
so instead i will put a rick wright source masterlist under the readmore so people can go watch/read things for themselves in as much detail as they feel comfortable doing so, + i think a lot of people aren't aware of half of the sources i take from
Books
As far as books go your best starting points are Mark Blake's Comfortably Numb and Nick Mason's Inside Out, both of which are much more generalised sources for any Pink Floyd related material - I do have PDFs of both of these (i have physical bought copies too dw), so if you can't read/listen to either of them for any reason DM me and I'll send those PDFs to you :] They're both available widely on Amazon and other bookstores and Inside Out is also available as an audiobook!!
Guy Pratt's My Bass And Other Animals is 75% his own biography and 25% pink floyd related, so while it does have some Rick-related stuff in there, don't go into it expecting any in-detail explanations. Unfortunately I don't have a PDF of this book, but it is widely available and relatively inexpensive to buy (and I totally reccomend it!)
Franka Wright has supposedly been writing a tell-all on her marriage and experiences with him, but there haven't been many updates on it in a while. I've been relatively quiet on everything she's said about him in public as I don't think I have enough information on what happened to properly comment, but if that book does drop expect me to be the first in line to take a look
Websites/Online
Please god if you have even any passing interest use rickwright.com. It's a resource largely made by his estate and has a lot of information on there, it's a really sweet and interesting labour of love and I cannot reccomend it enough
pinkfloydz.com is an older website but has a gigantic catalogue of interviews, which include a large amount of transcribed interviews with Rick from 1996. It's just such a good resource in general and I highly reccomend checking it out, as even if you're not a Rick fan you still have a lot of interviews with the others in there
Here me out here; @mamazano (who has been inactive since 2021) has SO much on there that I don't feel bad putting them down as a source. Almost everything they post about is properly cited so you can find exactly where they came from, and they catalogue a lot of stuff that is locked behind more expensive/less available books. Their attention to detail for citing and sourcing quotes has been so admirable to me even if they're no longer on Tumblr anymore!
Watchlist
Here's links to watch Live At Pompeii, P.U.L.S.E, Delicate Sound of Thunder and Live 8 if you haven't done so already. also Chit Chat With Oysters has him for like 3 minutes
Remember That Night (an On An Island concert film)
Breaking Bread, Drinking Wine (On An Island tour documentary)
Rick talks about Syd for the 2001 Syd Barrett documentary by John Edginton
Broken China interview
Interview with Guy Pratt about PATGOD
There's definitely a lot more but this is the stuff I already had on my Youtube playlist of interviews - here's some that were on there but I haven't watched/listened to in a while so I can't 100% verify them rn (x) (x) (x)
Maybe one day I will try and chronologue all of the shit I know into something comprehensible but that definitely wouldn't just be a Tumblr post or smth lol
In the meantime I do thrive infodumping-wise off specific questions so if there's something more concrete you want me to (attempt to) explain I'm happy to do so! Thank you sm for the ask (I wouldn't have done this otherwise) and please feel free to contact me if you would like anything specific answered :]
#AAAA IT SENT EARLY GRRR#i have a weird infodump vampire thing where if i dont have something to bounce the infodump off it makes it really hard to do#idk its been hard adjusting to the idea people actually like me infodumping to them#i do hope this is helpful for anyone tho#and like i said i will 100% infodump on people if they dm me with a question#pink floyd#rick wright#infodump tag

Enamoured (Spencer Reid x gn!reader)🍬
Desc: reader wears their lip piercings to a dinner that Rossi hosts for the team. Spencer finds himself enamoured.
After a long day of work, Rossi had invited everyone over to his house to show everyone those cooking skills he is always bragging about.
You quickly ran home to get ready, debated if you should put in your lip rings, since technically, you weren’t at work. You decided, why the hell not?
Arriving at Rossi’s, you quickly fixed your hair as a nervous tic and knocked on the door, trying to resist the heavy urge to play with tour rings, another nervous habit you had developed.
You were immediately greeted with an already buzzed Garcia, and she giddily ushered you inside. “Ooh I love the new look!” She comments.
“How much have you had to drink already?” You tease. “Umm only a little bit?” She clearly lies. You playfully scoffed at her reply and allowed her to drag you to the kitchen, where the rest of the team were watching Rossi prepare Italian cuisine.
You excitedly took a seat next to Spencer, ignoring Morgan and JJ’s whistles at your current look.
When you turned to have a brief conversation with Spencer, you noticed that he could barely even look at you. When he did, his eyes kept bouncing between your lips and the counter. You frowned, wondering if you had done something wrong.
Before you could question him, Rossi had announced that it was time to dig in, and the delicious dish caused your worries to slip your mind for the moment.
Eventually, you all had migrated to the living room to watch a movie. You had ended up between Prentiss and Hotch.
“Since when have you had those?” Prentiss asked with a smile, gesturing to the jewelry. “Oh I’ve had these for a few years, I just don’t really wear them often anymore” you reply.
“You should, you look good” she compliments. You smile and thank her, before noticing that Spencer was literally across the room from you.
You felt your stomach dip at the thought of upsetting your best friend. You racked your brain over the course of the past few weeks to try to find what could’ve upset him, but you came up empty handed.
You made your way to the kitchen to grab another glass of wine, sighing audibly. “I know that sound” Rossi comments, leaning over the kitchen island. You laughed pitifully at that
“What’s wrong?” He asked. “It’s probably nothing, I’ve just noticed that Spencer has been sort of avoiding me all night” you reply.
He hums, “that is unusual” he comments. “I’m sure everything will be alright, kiddo” he says, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder before heading back to the living room.
Just as you were about to head out as well, Spencer entered the kitchen. “Hey Spence” you called out, stopping him in his tracks.
“Yeah?” He says, noticeably staring at your nose. “Can we talk?” You ask. You knew he hated that phrase but something needed to be done. He agreed and let you lead him outside.
“You’ve been avoiding me all night. I’m really sorry if I’ve done something to upset you” you apologize, your heart beating out of your chest.
“What? No, you didn’t do anything to upset me” he replies. “….But?” You press. His shoulders slumped in defeat.
“This will sound weird…but you just look so attractive with so piercings” he admits. The admission caused you to laugh. “That’s why you have been avoiding me all night?”.
Your teasing made him flush in embarrassment. “….Yeah?”. You grasped his hands in yours in silence.
“I wonder if kissing feels different with piercings” Spencer bravely comments. “Wanna find out?”. As soon as you got your sentence out, his lips were against yours.

This is incredibly random but it made me think of you; Oh, how I want my rockstar husband Joel to sing Tennessee Whiskey to me..🫠
Saphy, thank you for your patience and your beautiful brain
Tennessee Whiskey
Pairing: rockstar!joel miller x actress!reader
Author’s note: PS sorry this took so long to finish
Summary: A (somewhat) quiet night as you and Joel adjust to sharing life again [1.2k]
Warnings: the tiniest reference to spice, regret, longing, oh they’re so in love and sweet
Since your temporary break from accepting new projects, you and Joel have been together as much as humanely possible. You have a whole year to catch up on, and he's taken every opportunity to spend time with you. Movie nights with Ellie and Sarah (even though she has her own dorm), beautiful, candle-lit dinners at some of LA's best restaurants, walks with Daisy, sleepovers, all of it. But tonight, Sarah is studying for a midterm, and Ellie is seeing a movie with her friends Dina and Jesse, leaving you and Joel alone in the house. Well, Daisy's there too, but she's much quieter than the girls.
He promised to make you a homemade meal but refused your help, delegating you to sit on the island and drink wine while he cooked. The gold necklace he's taken to wearing since you've been gone peeks out from his collar, and a flush of heat rushes through you as you remember the way it swung in your face earlier in the day. He catches you staring and smirks as he tosses a towel over his shoulder. "See somethin' you like?" He asks, and you shake your head, hiding your blush as you sip wine.
"Maybe."
"Maybe?" He parrots. You roll your eyes and rest your hands on the counter. He raises his eyebrows like he's waiting for an answer, and you smile.
"Yes, Joel, you're very nice to look at." You say, and he hums. He leans across the island to kiss you sweetly before turning back to the food. He seems very in his element in the kitchen and getting to add his own spin on the dishes. Watching him cook feels like you're getting to know another part of him. A very welcome part. Many of the people you've dated in the past haven't even owned a kitchen big enough to cook in, so you're perfectly fine being spoiled.
"Now, I'm not a fancy chef or anythin' like that, but I think you'll like this." He says as he puts the salmon in the oven, and you smile.
"I'm sure it'll be great." You reassure him, and he smiles before turning on the stove and filling a pan with vegetables you watched him cut earlier. You're about two glasses of wine in (on an empty stomach), and the room is spinning pleasantly.
These nights are your favorite— devoid of watchful eyes and high-speed cameras. He smells like aftershave, and your body wash when you come up behind him while he cooks, wrapping your arms around his middle and kissing the curve of his spine. His hand covers yours as he sautés the vegetables and hums a familiar tune. You put your wine glass on the counter and let yourself fully rest against Joel. The vibration of his humming thrums through your chest, and you rest your chin on his shoulder.
"You still owe me a song, Miller." You mumble, and he laughs.
"I wrote you a whole album of songs." He says, and you roll your eyes.
"Yeah, but I haven't gotten a real-life Joel Miller serenade yet."
"I was just on tour."
"I was in Ireland, remember?" You ask, and he takes a deep breath like he doesn't want to be reminded of that time. The tour was only in North America, and you weren't in a space, in your work or emotions, to come back to see him. You wish you would've. He wishes he would've come to Europe. You wish you would've gotten to this place of reconciliation and forgiveness sooner. There's no lingering frustration on either side of how things ended, but there's a lot of grief. The air shifts between you, and he swallows thickly. He squeezes your hand a little harder, and you kiss his jaw. "'M here. I'm here now."
"I know." He says as he turns off the knob and moves the sautéed vegetables to a cooler part of the stove. You open your mouth to say something about the ridiculously high heat he had the burner on, but he cups your face and kisses you before you can. "You're here." He whispers, pulling back just enough to kiss you again and again and again. He hums against you, and your hands rest on his waist as he slowly sways with you in the kitchen.
Then, slowly and quietly, he starts singing to you. You were never one for Chris Stapleton or most modern country music, but Tennessee Whiskey sounds so good when he sings it to you like this. He gives each note his full attention and spreads his breath perfectly across each lyric. You don't think many people were born to do many things, but you believe, deep in your soul, that Joel was born to be a singer. You bury your head in his neck to hide the tears pricking in your eyes. You're not sure why you're crying. It could be the wine, or how he's holding you, or the year you spent apart finally catching up to you.
He kisses your temple and rubs your back as he sings. A tear falls down your cheek, and a wet nose nudges your knee as if she could hear the water trickling down your face. You laugh and see Daisy sitting at your feet, whining as she stares at you. You make a sympathetic noise and reach out to scratch her head to tell her you're okay. She doesn't seem satisfied with that, though. Without breaking focus, Joel bends down, scoops all forty pounds of Daisy into his arms, and lets her join in the slow circle you're dancing around the kitchen. She licks your tears away, and you giggle when she rests her head against Joel's chest, too, perfectly content to be babied. You and Daisy each get a kiss, and you take a deep breath to calm yourself down. He carefully places all four of Daisy's paws on the ground again before wrapping you in the biggest, most Joel Miller hug possible.
"'M here. 'M not goin' anywhere." He says, and you nod into his shirt. "I love you."
You've avoided saying the L word since you rekindled your relationship. Not because it wasn't still there but because you were afraid of rushing into anything too fast. The unspoken rule seems stupid now that the words are reverberating across your skull with a scarily easy acceptance. He loves you, and you love him. Enjoy it, dammit.
"I love you, too," you whisper. "Thank you for singing to me."
"I'll sing to you whenever you want, honey."
"Whenever I want?" You ask, pulling back to look at him with a mischievous look. You expect him to try to rescind his statement and launch into a lighter conversation, but he doesn't. He cradles your face in his hands and nods.
"Whenever you want." He says with a kind of finality that makes your heart sing. You won't admit it for two more years, but in that moment, you both know he means forever, and for once, that doesn't scare the ever-loving shit out of you. You stare at him, searching his eyes for any signs of uncertainty or doubt but find none. All you see is love and total adoration.
So, you nod in agreement, the closest you would get to promising yourself to him until your engagement, and say, "I could get used to whenever."

Sneak peek (JT & PCW)
Must come up with a title for this so I can post it on AO3!
It had started during the summer before seventeen year old Penelope left for Switzerland and finishing school. They had known each other since they were children, meeting quite by chance onboard a cruise ship from India to Britain when she was only eleven years old and he was fourteen. Jeff Tracy had decided to take his children on a world tour, in some part to distract them from their mother’s recent death only eighteen months previously, and John and Penelope had struck up a friendship. She had not reacted well to the Indian climate and her parents had decided it would be best for her to return to Britain in the care of her governess, Miss Petherton, a rather severe Devonian woman from Ilfracombe. Penelope had been distressed to leave her mother behind and while Miss Petherton was kind and most solicitous for her charge’s well-being, there was no depth of affection between them. John saw almost in an instant that the pretty English girl was unhappy and decided to devote the duration of their cruise to cheering her up if he could. Penelope, for her part, saw how grief stricken John was and how, because he did not show his grief in the same way as his brothers and father, they believed that he was no longer affected by the loss and left him very much to himself. Their friendship endured over the years that followed, in some measure fuelled by the isolation each of them felt, John at Harvard and Penelope as a full boarder at Rowden School.
Their first kiss had been one of many stolen moments while the Tracy family were guests of the Creighton-Wards on their private island in French Polynesia, spending most of the months of June, July and August together. Penelope had been planning to inform her parents after dinner one evening in early September of the relationship budding between herself and John but some rather boastful comments from Sir Hugh over the table about how preciously guarded his little princess was and how no gentleman would ever be worthy enough to attain her daunted her resolve.
Lady Amelia smiled and shook her head at her husband.
“Honestly, Hugh, the way you talk. One might think you’d already found someone for our darling girl.”
“Perhaps so, Melly, perhaps so.” he replied, with an enigmatic wink over his wine glass.
“Well, if you have, and if he’s a proper English gentleman, I do hope you’ll let me in on your little secret? And we must, of course, inform dear Lady Conway before we announce anything.” she said, while Penelope’s heart began to sink and a blush spread across her cheeks.
She caught John’s eye across the table and the look of despondency on her face dampened his spirits also. That evening, before going to bed, Penelope had crept along to her mother’s dressing room and begged to know what her father had been talking of, was there really some engagement being planned for her?
“Why, dearest,” began Lady Amelia, patting the low stool next to her, “What has happened to trouble my Honourable Miss so much?”
Penelope sat and fidgeted with the ribbons on her dressing gown, unable to decide where to begin.
“Now, you must know, Penelope, that Papa and I want only the best for you. Yes?”
She nodded forlornly.
“And you must trust that we know what’s for the best. Not every gentleman is suited for the life you are destined to lead, so allow yourself to be guided by Papa and I.”
“But if my heart, my feelings, are… are not…”
“Not what? Oh dear, have you developed a tendre for someone? Hopefully not your tennis coach, Pierre? Is that his name? Most unsuitable.”
“Not him, no.”
“Oh!” Lady Amelia stared at her daughter in concern, “But there is a someone?”
Penelope’s silence betrayed her.
“Well, whoever it is you must tell me. Now.”
“Don’t be angry Mama, I know you and Papa are very determined that he should be English-”
“As long as he isn’t French.” put in Lady Amelia.
“He’s not-”
“Or American.”
There was an awkward silence.
“Oh heavens. He’s an American, isn’t he? I knew it. I knew when Miss Gadsby wrote from Rowden to say they had engaged an American to teach art that there would be consequences. You will write an electronic letter to him immediately and call it off. Show me the draft message before you send it. Do it now.”
Penelope had trailed along the elegant hallway to her room and wrote the note, a complete fiction of course, then showed it to her mother who had read it briefly, lips pressed together.
“Excellent. Send it now. And dearest, it stings now, I know. But young hearts do heal remarkably quickly. Off to bed with you.”
And while Penelope did indeed go to her bed, it was not the one in which she spent the entire night.

Hii, what about Rebecca Welton x Black!wife!reader based off the song So My Darling (acoustic) by Rachel Chinouriri?
Remember I'll always love you
Rebecca Welton x black!wife!Reader
Warning:fluff, indecent language, kissing, anxiety,
A/n: after I finished writing I realized that I read your ask wrong, but I hope the story line still works for you:) hope you enjoy reading as I did with writing♡♡. I'll probably make a part 2 when I have spare time because this is so cute!
♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●
You knocked softly on the door, and Rebecca opened it, a confused but surprised expression was painted on her face. You smiled softly at her as she returned it.
She was dress in her usual attire. Black pencil cut skirt and a tint blue silk blouse with light pink fluffy house slippers. Her hair in a decent messy bun and light makeup. She looked heavenly.
"Y/n darling, your early" she said a bit nervously, your smile drop alittle thinking you may have came a little to early and maybe she hadn't finished preparing yet.
" Oh I hope that's OK, it's gonna rain soon so I thought I'd come early to beat the rush, you know how Manhatten is" you spoke chuckling slightly.
" ah yes no problem, at all" she spoke placing her hand on her hip, smiling.
It was starting to get awkward between the both of you.
" um can I come in now?" You asked, it was below a whisper but audible enough for her to hear. Your baby voice broke her from her trance.
" Yes of course" she said loudly as she moved for you to come in. As you entered her flat you were immediately hit with the most strong aroma.
Rebecca really went all out to make this first date special. She walked into the kitchen and you followed sitting on a beanch around the island.
" Your gonna have to give me a house tour babe" you said in hope to make small talk. Rebecca turned around surprised at the name you just called her.
" um yeah ok, um sure i- just" Rebecca stumbled on her words you could tell she was nervous. You got up and walked over to her, you smiled at her softly as you held both her hands in yours.
" becaa it's ok, step by step right?" She nodded as a small smile painted her lips.
"You ready to eat, I made Italian pasta, i didn't know what you liked so I tried my best" taking the pasta off the stove she placed it onto the counter.
You could tell she was nervous but you didn't want her to be. She was doing her absolute best.
" would you like wine?" She asked before she walked into the wine pantry.
" sure" you responded taking a look at her apartment again. It was truly beautiful, and it was definitely her aesthetic. Scented candles to her perfume, dim light, big window, grey curtains, it was giving old money vibes.
But most of all it was very Rebecca Welton vibes.
" how long have you lived here" you questioned when she brought back the wine and two wine glasses.
" not long probably a year and a half" she responded pouring the wine into the glass.
" becca" her name on your tongue was like music to her ears. She hummed in response and looked up at you. For a moment you swore the world stopped moving. And it was just the both of you. Her big green eyes staring into your eyes. You were stuck in a trance with her.
" Your doing enough becca, you just being with me in a cave is more than enough for a first date" you spoke as she giggled a little.
" see their's the becca I know, let your hair down" you said smiling from ear to ear, Rebecca sighed, almost like she was holding it in for an eternity.
You both sat down and had dinner. It was absolutely amazing. Great flavor, great seasonings, it was just perfect.
" did you like it?" She asked as she took both plates and proceeded to take them to the sink.
" yeah, you should open your own restaurant" you said and she began laughing like crazy.
" darling I had to watch 10 tiktoks and probably 15 YouTube videos to make that" she said as she started to turn red.
" atleast you tired" you said in between gigles.
" A for fucking effort" she commented. You both were dying of laughter. After you both caught your breaths you looked at eachother again.
" well it was still perfect" you said admiring her facial features. You both leaned in to kiss but you both pulled away.
" Well the night is still young darling, what do you wanna do" she asked drying her hands as she walked into her grand lounge area, you following like the little lost pup you were. Her flat was as big as any mansion.
You gasped as you saw the alluring porcelain and gold piano in the room, she turned around and followed your eye line seeing what made you react the way you did. A soft smile came across her face.
" ah yes, came with the apartment, I used it a couple times but" she stop as she looked at the piano deeply, if you didn't know better you would have thought she was admiring it but you did know better and she was looking at it as if it brought back memories.
" can you play" she asked snapping out of her trance, her gaze meeting yours. you looked down at the floor nervously.
" Oh come on it can't be that bad" she said a flint of sarcasm to it. You looked up to meet her eyes and glared at her.
" come here" she sat on the bench in front of the piano and tapped to spot next to her. You obliged and sat next to her.
" play what you know" she whispered. You sighed as you began to play ocean eyes instrumental, it wasn't perfect nor was it terrible but it could use some work.
" not bad" she said smiling as she began to play a song. You recognized it from the intro beat. It was 'so my darling'. One of your favorite songs.
She slowly began singing it while she was playing and you couldn't help but blush. Her green eyes shimmered in the dimly lit room, the candle on top of the piano was the only source of light.
As she ended the song she couldn't help but smile at you.
" that was perfect" you whispered as you leaned into her. Both your lips met and it was electric. It was soft and slow, so passionate. It felt as if there was no time in the world and you both can kiss forever. Soon it became rough as both your tongues dance like two lover's in the rain.
You both pulled away for air, bursting out laughing again.
" Your perfect" you said, laying your head on her shoulder.
" and darling your magical" she whispered kissing your temple. You soon fell asleep to her playing her song again.

Top 5 Meals you have ever had. Either the food, the company, the experience or any mix of those things.
It’s going to be hard to limit this to just five — and it’s gonna get long — but here goes . . .
1) Best meal of my life was at a Moroccan restaurant in Paris the year before the pandemic. (I recommended it recently to one of you, but the name is escaping me at the moment.) It was a dark, cozy little place with gorgeous tile work. I had a black cherry pigeon tajine — my first time eating pigeon — that was SO good. We shared a bottle of the most delicious wine that, sadly, they don’t sell here. We asked the owner to pick out a dessert for us to share, and she brought out a plate of something we didn’t get the name of at the time, but I’ve since googled it and I think it was Ktefa. It was somehow both rich and light. The pastry stayed crisp under the cream/custard, which had a delicate hint of both orange and what you’d probably think of as Christmassy spices. We were SO full by the time we left. But I think about that meal every few months, it was so good.
2) Thanksgivings with my mother’s extended family, which we call “Chrisgiving” because we celebrate Christmas together at the same time. My mother is the eldest of 6 and all of her siblings have between 2 and 4 kids, most of whom have their own spouses and kids as well, so it’s a HUGE group. Very loud. It’s buffet style, with the food filling at least three of those long fold-out tables you can always find in church basements. Almost all of it made from scratch. The food is always good, but obviously this one is more about the company/atmosphere.
3) When Adelaide was still in Montessori, one of her friends’ mothers was from Argentina and we were invited to an empanada-making party. It was supposed to be for the kids, but they were maybe kindergartners, so they were into it for about ten minutes before wanting to run around outside. So it became about the moms all standing around in the kitchen peeling hard boiled eggs and learning to stuff and crimp empanada skins. One from Argentina, one from Russia, one from Bosnia, one from the MidWest, and me. We talked about work and kids and dating/spouses and now I can make (the Argentinian version of) empanadas.
4) Trattoria Al Gatto Nero in Burano, Italy. We’d spent the morning at a glass factory in Murano and the tour guide knew we were heading to Burano, so she got us a water taxi and told us we HAD to have lunch in this place. It’s a Michelin star restaurant and mostly specializes in seafood (no surprise, considering we’re talking about an island). I had these delicate little crab claws that were SO fresh and perfectly seasoned. We sat outside by a canal and rows of brightly painted houses/shops with church bells ringing from the square nearby. It was drizzly and a little cold, so the waiter brought blankets out to wrap around all of our shoulders. It was just a lovely experience from start to finish.
5) I think I’ve told this story here before, so forgive me if a second telling seems like bragging. I dated a very successful lawyer in DC for a hot minute who had a real Alpha Business Guy vibe and looked a bit like a much taller Bruce Willis. He’d taken me to a romantic restaurant in Baltimore, where we’d had a great meal and were enjoying some wine. I was feeling slightly tipsy from mine and thoroughly enjoying his company, so in the middle of his work anecdote I gave him The Look. (You know what look I mean.) And this incredibly powerful, intimidating man actually blushed and got momentarily shy. That was such a heady experience, especially because it wasn’t long after my divorce and I was deep in rejection AND mommy mode and not at all confident in my desirability. One of the biggest power trips of my life.

One-Day Trip in Paris: Make the Most of Your 24 Hours in the City of Light
Got just one day to visit Paris? And tensed about to make the best of it? From breathtaking views and famous places to simply walking along a beautiful river, the city of Paris is full of unforgettable surprises within 24 hours of stay. Whether on a stopover or a short trip, wouldn’t it be great if the curbs could easily be overcome? Private transfers are best for optimizing time while on a one-day trip in Paris, the capital of France. Read on for the ultimate one-day guide!
Morning: Explore the Iconic Landmarks
The exclusive beginning of your day involves a trip to the Eiffel Tower with a private cab transfer. To start with, go for the elevator to get a bird’s-eye view of the city before it stirs up. Avoid traffic to the Eiffel Tower by booking tickets in advance or view the tower from the Trocadéro Gardens & Fountain. Then to the Champs Élysées. This is highly rated as one of the most striking avenues globally, it is packed with boutiques and cafes. The Arc de Triomphe is just within a short drive from here and it is situated at the top of the boulevard. Take some shots before going further. Your driver can get you through morning traffic while doing the 4-hour Paris Discovery tour, and you will not have to worry about how to get around with the crowded transport system.
Late Morning: Dive into History at the Louvre
Of course, who does not know the Louvre Museum, located in Paris where the world-famous ‘Monalisa’ and hundreds of other masterpieces can also be seen? However, you can take a fast pass to capture the major points of interest in the museum or just stand in the museum yard to admire the glass pyramid.
In case of time constraints inform your CDG to Disneyland Paris private transfer to take you to Île de la Cité so that you can spend a few hours at Notre Dame Cathedral which even after the fire looks magnificent post-partial reconstruction. You can roam the streets on the island or enjoy the construction architecture of the buildings.
Afternoon: A Relaxing Seine River Experience
In the middle of the day, you can go to Saint-Germain-des-Prés which seems to be one of the best areas for lunch thoroughly relishing foods in cafes/bistros. Café Les Deux Magots or Café de Flore serves Parisian cuisine that gives the tourists a feel of French food.
Then take a boat ride along the Seine River to complete the fun of visiting Paris. These hour-long cruises include live commentary on the beauty of the city including the Pont Alexandre III, the Musée d’Orsay, and Notre Dame. If you want to go an extra step further, ensure that the cruise is a private one to afford you the privacy you need as well as convenience.
If you wish to have your afternoon open, avail the per-hour tour service of Paris Eagle Cab. In this way, you are able to pull over at any attractive place that is found on the journey.
Evening: Wind Down in Montmartre
End up your day in Montmartre where art and culture dominate every niche. Go to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica on a hill that has one of the best views of Paris at sunset. Subsequently, explore the arteries of stone-paved artists to display their products or have dinner at Le Relais Gascon or La Maison Rose.
Looking for more options, which is always confusing when you are a tourist, the nightlife of Paris is very charismatic. For any wine lover who just wants to grab a drink or two, from small intimate spaces to sophisticated cocktail bars housed in terminal 5-like establishments along the Champs Élysées, there is nowhere better than the city.
